Episode # 9581 ~ Tragedy Strikes
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Kay: (Sighs) Bill, I don't know. As disturbing as I find this marriage of Jill's, I can't really help wondering what's going on at that church.
Babies: (Crying)
Lily: Oh, my God! My babies!
Neil: Lily, no. They're okay, Lily. I've got 'em. I've got 'em. Don't worry.
Lily: My babies! Dad, don't let them see this! Don't let them.
Neil: You're okay. Shh.
Lily: Oh, God, Cane.
Neil: Shh.
Lily: (Sobs) Cane! (Sobbing)
Sofia: Let's just hope that Neil found Lily at the church. I mean, with everything that's happening, her and the twins do not need to be alone now.
Malcolm: Yeah, well, what Lily needs to do right now is Lily needs to cut Cane out of her life. And I'm gonna see to it that she does. That's what I'm gonna do.
Sofia: Malcolm, B-baby, slow down. Why don't you at least call Neil first and see what's goin' on?
Lily: (Sobs) Cane!
Jill: Cane? Cane? Cane?
Lily: (Crying)
Jill: Cane.
Lily: (Sobs) Cane!
Jill: Lily, what happened?
Lily: They were just fighting and then Blake just shot him!
Jill: Oh, my God.
Colin: Make sure he's still breathing.
Jill: Oh, my God, Cane. It's me. I'm here.
Lily: (Sobs)
Jill: Please stay with me.
Lily: Somebody get help!
Neil: I'm calling now.
Lily: Cane, I'm here, Cane.
Jill: Stay with us. Stay with us. No. You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine, Cane!
Lily: I love you, Cane. Oh, I love you. (Sobs)
Jill: Oh, Cane, no! No!
Murphy: Now this is what I call a party.
Billy: Not much to celebrate.
Kay: Tonight, Murphy, is a very bad night.
Babies: (Crying)
Neil: Yeah, the shooter's dead, but my son-in-law needs an ambulance.
Jill: Hold on. Hold on.
Colin: He's losing too much blood.
Lily: Oh, gosh.
Jill: Are they on their way?
Lily: Tell them to hurry! They have to save him!
Jill: Oh, Baby, Baby.
Neil: Hurry! Please!
Lily: (Sobbing) You're gonna be okay.
Jill: Cane. Cane.
Colin: Where the hell is that ambulance?
Jill: Cane, don't give up. Hang on. Help is coming.
Lily: (Sobbing) Please, God, don't let him die.
Jill: Sweetie, don't say that. Nobody's gonna die.
(Cell phone rings)
Neil: It's all right. Hello?
Malcolm: Man, finally. I've been trying to reach you. Were you able to find Lily? Is she okay?
Neil: We're--we're at the church. Malcolm, you're not gonna believe this. (Sighs) Cane's been shot in the chest.
Malcolm: What?
Neil: Yeah, he's lost a lot of blood. I-I don't--it doesn't look good. I called 9-1-1. They're on their way right now.
Malcolm: We'll be there in a minute.
Lily: (Voice breaking) Listen, all the things I said, it doesn't matter anymore, okay? Because you're my husband...
Jill: Oh, no.
Lily: And I love you. And it's okay. We're okay. Do you know how much I love you? Do you know how much I love you?
Jill: No, shh. Don't try to talk. Save your strength.
Cane: (Grunts) I...
Jill: Save your strength.
Lily: Hang on, Baby. I love you so much. Just hang on. Hang on.
Cane: (Gasping) I... love... (Gasps)
Lily: (Sobs) Cane?
Jill: No.
Lily: Cane. Cane! (Sobbing)
Jill: No. No. No! No! No!
Lily: (Wails)
Jill: No! No!
Lily: (Sobbing) Cane.
Jill: (Sobbing) No.
Murphy: Jill's actually marrying that guy?
Kay: (Chuckles) In a church, no less. Oh, God, if I'd only knocked some sense into her before all of this.
Murphy: Yeah, well, Jill does what Jill wants, especially if it's something you don't want.
Kay: (Chuckles)
Billy: Well, it doesn't matter what we want. By now, Mom and Colin are married, and probably celebrating their little hearts out.
Lily: No, please, God. Please, God. Please.
(Defibrillator beeps)
Man: Anything?
Woman: 10-7. 8:42 P.M.
Malcolm: Neil. Is that...
Neil: Yeah, that's Blake. Paramedics declared him dead when they got here.
Sofia: Is that who shot Cane?
Neil: They're workin' on him right now, but I... I don't see how.
Malcolm: What the hell happened, Neil?
Neil: Sofia, can you please, please watch the babies for a minute, all right? Please.
Sofia: Yes.
Neil: Thank you.
Man: We'll radio the M.E.'s about transporting the victims.
Lily: Wait. Wait. Why-- why are you stopping?
Man: Ma'am, there's nothing more they can do. It's a crime scene now.
Jill: No!
Lily: Please. No. Please.
Jill: No.
Lily: I know that he can be saved. I know he can.
Woman: We're terribly sorry for your loss.
Lily: (Sobs) No.
Man: I need you all to clear the area. The rest of my team will be here shortly.
Lily: (Sobs) No, I am not leaving him.
Neil: Shh. Honey, let's go inside, okay?
Lily: (Sobs)
Neil: Let the police do their job. Come on. Let's go.
Sofia: Malcolm, this is no place for babies. Give me Lily's keys so I can drive them home.
Malcolm: Okay, I'm on it. I got it.
Lily: (Sobs)
Neil: It's gonna be okay. You know what? I think her purse is up here.
Lily: (Sniffles, sobbing)
Neil: Yeah.
Malcolm: Neil. Neil.
Neil: What?
Malcolm: (Stammers) Slow down, damn it. What the hell happened?
Neil: I don't know exactly, all right? I got here at the tail end. Lily was down. The stroller was flying down the stairs.
Malcolm: With the babies in it?
Neil: Yes, with the babies in it. I caught the stroller. I checked. They're fine. And I'm guessing that Blake shot Cane and then he fell down and broke his neck.
Malcolm: You know whose fault this is, Neil. That trash would have never came here from Australia if--
Neil: Okay. All right. All right, not now.
Malcolm: Neil, my daughter and my grandbabies could have been killed, and they still could be in danger.
Neil: I understand. You need to get a grip right now, okay? Focus and relax for Lily's sake. Come on, let's go.
Malcolm: (Sighs)
Lily: (Sighs) (Sniffles)
Neil: Here, Honey.
Lily: Do you have my keys?
Neil: Yeah, I do. Here they are.
Malcolm: Baby, I'm so sorry. Look, Sofia and I are gonna take the kids home. I'll be back.
Neil: Yeah.
Malcolm: If anything happens, anything else, call me.
Lily: (Sniffles)
Neil: I will. I will.
Lily: (Sobbing)
Neil: Thanks. Honey.
Lily: (Sobs)
Jill: How did this happen? We were in there saying our vows, and... and then the next...
Colin: (Sighs)
Man: Ma'am, is there anything you can tell me about the situation? Names and addresses of the deceased?
Jill: That's my son. That's Cane. His real name is Ethan Ashby, and that's his wife Lily. And they live on-- on Lavetta Terrace.
Man: What about the other man?
Jill: His n-name is Blake. I don't know his last name. He, um, was blackmailing him.
Man: Blackmailing him?
Jill: Yeah.
Man: About what?
Jill: Back in Australia, they were doing some really bad things. There was criminal activity. Okay? And Cane wanted out of it. And so he blew the whistle on them, and--and it sent a whole bunch of their gang to jail. And then this Blake was one of the ones who tracked him down and followed him here. And those babies who were here before, they belong to Lily and Cane, and they're never gonna know their... (Sobs) Daddy.
Colin: Detective, we'll be, uh, more than happy to answer your questions, but right now, we've got somewhere to go. Come on.
Man: (Sighs) Look, Ma'am. Ma'am, I-I'm sorry. I'm sorry. The--the investigators--
Lily: No, I am not leaving him.
Neil: Come on. Let's go. Let's go inside. We'll pray.
Lily: (Sobs)
Neil: Come on.
Lily: Pray, Dad? Pray for what?! My husband is dead! (Voice breaking) What is there to pray for? (Sobbing)
Murphy: You know, there's nothing cuter than a little kid Delia's age all covered in birthday cake.
Kay: Well, I don't know what, uh, Chloe has planned.
Billy: I actually haven't talked to her since Victoria and I got Lucy. Everything's been too crazed, but I know I need to call her and let her know that DeeDee has a baby sister.
Kay: Are you saying Chloe still doesn't know? Uh, Billy--
Billy: Look, okay, yes. Y--I-I wanted to tell her in person, and she'll probably bitch and moan at first, but then she'll come around. Chloe can't be completely unreasonable all the time.
Kay: Unlike some people we know.
Billy: I thought we were done talking about Mom.
Kay: Do you know I fantasize about going over to that church and dragging her out by her hair?
Murphy: Oh? Oh, so much for washing your hands of the woman. Hmm.
Kay: Mm.
Murphy: (Chuckles)
Kay: Well, the problem with that is that Jill's mistakes are always blowing up on everyone around her. I-I wonder... I just have to wonder what kind of trouble she's gotten herself into with that man.
Billy: Oh, Mom.
Murphy: Oh, my--
Billy: What happened to you?
Kay: (Stammers) Jill.
Billy: Are you okay?
Kay: Jill, are you all right?
Jill: He's dead. Cane's dead.
Colin: The ceremony was done.
Jill: (Sniffles)
Colin: I was about to kiss my wife when we heard a shot.
Jill: And then we walked outside, and there was Cane shot in the chest.
Billy: Who shot him?
Jill: Blake, the guy who was blackmailing him. He fell down and broke his neck. He's dead, too. I don't know. I don't know. Who cares?
Kay: Cane can't possibly be gone.
Billy: Where was Lily during all this?
Colin: She was... she was in the church for most of the ceremony.
Jill: When she walked out, she must have walked right into the middle of whatever was going on with Cane and Blake.
Murphy: What, Lily saw her husband murdered?
Jill: (Sobs)
Colin: She had the children with her, but fortunately--
Billy: Who's with her now?
Jill: Neil's with her. She refused to leave Cane's body.
Billy: Okay. I'm gonna go see if I can help.
Kay: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
Jill: There was so much blood, Katherine. There was so much blood. (Sobbing)
Sofia: (Sighs) Those babies were exhausted. Let--let's hope they sleep a while, huh?
Malcolm: Yeah. Listen, uh, I gotta get back to Lily. (Sighs) Don't answer that door for anyone, all right?
Sofia: I worked with Blake. Lily befriended him, let him hold those precious babies. I mean, up until recently, none of us knew how dangerous--
Malcolm: How dangerous he was? Yeah? Well, Cane knew. Cane knew all along, and he didn't say a damn word. What did he think was gonna happen?
Sofia: I-- Malcolm, are you really asking me that question?
Malcolm: Well, I just feel like... (Sighs) I feel like you should have told me the second you knew my daughter's husband was bein' blackmailed. Maybe if you had of, maybe--
Sofia: Maybe what? Maybe Cane would still be alive?
Malcolm: (Sighs)
Sofia: Are you saying that it's my fault that Cane is dead?
Malcolm: No, what I'm saying is I'm having a hard time gettin' past you covering for him. I'm havin' a hard time with you keepin' secrets from me. You knew it was wrong. You knew it was wrong, and you did it anyway.
Sofia: I kept secrets from you to protect your family.
Malcolm: Yeah, Baby? Well, there's a price that comes with keepin' secrets. And now my daughter and my grandkids have to live with that.
Lily: What if this is Charlie and Matty's first memory? What if they saw it?
Neil: Honey, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh. It won't be. That text that I got from Malcolm-- the twins are in their cribs now fast asleep.
Lily: You know, you saved their lives. If you hadn't shown up when you did...
Neil: I, uh... I know you came here hopin' to find Cane. What happened? What was Blake doing here?
Lily: I don't know. I was waiting inside here for a really long time. And so I went outside, and I saw them, and they were fighting, and... and Blake had a gun, and...
Neil: Hey. (Sighs) Its okay. You don't have to talk about it, Lily. I'm just grateful that you're okay.
Lily: You know, Cane fought so hard to keep me alive when I was sick. And we were so worried the twins would be without their mom. Never once did I ever think that it would be him.
Neil: I know. I know, Baby Girl.
Lily: How can this be, Dad? It can't be real. He can't be gone. Right? (Sniffles) (Sobs) I pushed Cane away when he told me he lied, and now he's gone. Now I can never be with him. I can never tell him how sorry I am.
Neil: Shh. Honey, yes--yes, you can. He knew. You know? He knew how you felt.
Lily: Yeah, when I told him I loved him, he was looking right at me, you know? He seemed to know that I was there.
Neil: Of course he did. Sweetheart, Cane died knowing how deeply, how much you loved him.
Lily: Love him.
Man: I'm sorry to interrupt. As... (Sighs) Mrs. Ashby was the only eyewitness to the actual shooting, I need to ask her a few questions.
Neil: Hey. Come here with me for a minute, please. Listen, my daughter is in no shape or condition to talk right now. All right? I'll let you know when she is.
Man: Both bodies are being moved down to the county morgue. As Mr. Ashby's next of kin, she'll need to go down there later, I.D. her husband's body.
Neil: I don't want my daughter anywhere near that morgue. Find someone else to do it, all right?
Billy: Hey.
Neil: Hi. You heard.
Billy: Yeah, Mom told me. How's Lily?
Neil: (Sighs) I think you should ask her that yourself.
Billy: Hey.
Lily: Billy. (Sobs) (Sniffles) (Sighs)
Jill: (Sniffles)
Jill: (Sighs) (Sobbing)
(Doorknob rattles) (Knock on door)
Jill: (Inhales sharply) (Sighs)
Jill: I was just trying to get this damn dress off. (Sighs)
Kay: Oh, here. Let me help.
Jill: (Sighs) (Sobbing quietly)
Jill: (Inhales sharply) (Gasps) (Sighs)
Jill: (Sniffles)
Kay: There we go. (Sighs)
Jill: Katherine... (Sighs) Thank you.
Kay: I'll send, uh, Colin in, and then I'll just get rid of these clothes.
Jill: (Sobs)
Kay: Jill? Oh, Jill.
Jill: (Sobs)
Kay: Oh, Jill.
Jill: (Sobs) Katherine? (Stammers) It doesn't matter that Cane wasn't really a Chancellor or an Abbott. He was ours.
Kay: No, Jill. To me, family is family... no matter what. Good luck, Jill.
Jill: (Sobbing quietly)
Murphy: Colin? I, uh, I thought you might want to change.
Colin: Yeah. This here will be fine.
Murphy: Oh, yeah. Okay. That oughta fit.
Colin: Something to cover this up. I figure Jill's seen enough blood for one day.
Kay: Um... Colin, uh, Jill's resting now, so if you'd like to go up--
Murphy: Is that, uh...
Kay: It's her wedding dress. I'm--I'm not sure what to do with it.
Colin: Uh, I'll put it in the car and dispose of it later.
Kay: Thank you.
Colin: (Sighs)
Murphy: Uh, you okay?
Colin: Yeah. As much as I can be. Excuse me.
Kay: Mm-hmm.
Murphy: Boy, he seems pretty rattled.
Kay: Mm. It surprises me that... Colin seems so upset given the fact that Cane seemed to hate him so much.
Malcolm: I'm headin' back to the church.
Sofia: Malcolm, wait. Look, I am sorry. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Cane and Blake. If I could take it back, I would, but just, please, Baby, please don't leave the house mad at me.
Malcolm: Sofia, I just need you to explain something to me. Explain to me why you would risk your career and everything so that Cane could continue paying those criminals. And don't tell me it was to protect my family, okay? Because secrets that big are never good for anybody involved. If Dru had just been honest about Lily's paternity, our lives would be completely different right now.
Sofia: I am not Dru, and my intentions were good, and if you don't believe that, then j-- my intentions were good, Malcolm.
Malcolm: Look, if we're gonna get married, and we're gonna have a life together, we need to be able to trust each other.
Sofia: So... you don't trust me anymore?
Malcolm: (Sighs) I need to go get my daughter.
Lily: When I stepped outside, Blake had a gun, and he pointed it right at me and the twins.
Billy: Oh, God.
Lily: And that's when Cane lunged at him and knocked the gun away. And if he hadn't done that...
Billy: (Sighs)
Lily: It might have been the three of us laying there. But instead...
Billy: Cane, he, uh... he sacrificed his life for yours. Your husband loved you. Your husband loved his kids. Everybody knows that.
Lily: Yeah, but I wonder if they'll know that. I mean, how will they know that their dad was a hero?
Billy: Honey--
Lily: I mean, how will I be able to explain all of this to them?
Billy: Honey, you're gonna tell those kids exactly what you just told me.
Lily: (Sighs)
Billy: And I'm gonna make sure everyone who reads "Restless Style" knows the same. And then one day, Matty and Charlie, they can read about what a great man their father was.
Lily: (Sighs) Thank you. That would mean a lot to me.
Billy: I promise you, Honey. It's the least I can do.
Lily: I just can't believe that he's gone.
Malcolm: Where's Lily?
Neil: She's inside talkin' to Billy.
Malcolm: How's she doin'?
Neil: She's a mess. That detective wanted to question her, but, you know, I held him off.
Malcolm: Do the police know that Blake wasn't workin' alone? That there were others and Lily might still be in danger?
Neil: Hey, hopefully, the police will track 'em down soon.
Malcolm: Yeah, hopefully they'll get to 'em before I do, 'cause I'm goin' after somebody, and I'm gonna hurt 'em.
Neil: Do you see what just happened here? Cane is dead. You need to take a step back please before someone else gets hurt here.
Malcolm: (Inhales deeply) (Sighs heavily) None of this would have happened if my fiancée wouldn't have kept things from us.
Neil: You know what, Malcolm? I really do think that she should have come forward, but I'll tell you this. It speaks volumes about her character that she cares so much about this family, that she's protective about our family.
Malcolm: How was she protecting anybody by-- by negotiating with blackmailers and--and--and defrauding Tucker? Who--who--who exactly is that helping?
Billy: Hey, Lily wants to talk to the police.
Neil: (Sighs)
Jill: Cane was really good inside, you know? He just got mixed up with the wrong people. He didn't deserve to die for that.
Colin: (Sighs) Such a senseless killing.
Jill: (Sobs)
Colin: (Sighs) Someone... with so much... promise shouldn't be... taken from you so soon.
Jill: (Sighs) This is gonna be really hard for me to accept. (Sighs)
Colin: (Sighs) Jill, I'm... I'm gonna try to make this... this right for you. You... and Lily... and the children. I am... I'm gonna make this... I'm gonna make this right for you.
Jill: Oh, Sweetheart. You are such a good man. I really think God sent you to me at the perfect time. (Sighs)
Lily: All I could think of was the babies, if that gun went off. And so I tried to move them out of the way, and I slipped on the ice and fell. And that's when the stroller went down the steps. And that's when Cane lunged at Blake. And, um...
Man: Wound up taking the bullet.
Lily: He was protecting his family.
Malcolm: (Sighs)
Lily: Nothing else mattered to him, not even his own safety.
Man: Thank you. Um, I appreciate your cooperation in this difficult time.
Billy: (Clears throat)
Neil: Huh? I know that wasn't easy for you. (Whispers) I'm very proud of you.
Billy: You did good, Baby.
Lily: I don't want anybody thinking that he was a criminal like Blake.
Malcolm: Well, I must say, after hearing what he sacrificed, I have a whole new respect for Cane.
Lily: Yeah, you should respect him. He's the only reason why I'm even standing here.
Neil: (Normal voice) Okay, you ready?
Lily: Yeah.
Man: Hello, Ma'am. I apologize for tracking you down here, but I recalled you mentioning you were Mr. Ashby's mother.
Jill: Well, the closest thing he had to one here, yeah. Why?
Man: I need the next of kin to go down to the morgue, I.D. the body. Standard procedure.
Jill: Oh. No, I-I don't think I-I could do that.
Colin: I'll do it.
Man: What's your relationship with the deceased?
Colin: Well, Cane was my s-- my son-in-law.
Man: Fine. Let's go.
Jill: Oh.
Colin: I'll be back.
Jill: Thank you so much. God, what a sweet, good man he is to do that for me.
Charlie: (Fussing)
Sofia: (Humming) Its okay, Baby. Yes. Auntie Sofia is here. It's okay. (Sighs) (Sighs) I am so sorry, Cane. I'm so sorry.
Sofia: (Sighs)
Colin: Yeah. Yeah, that's him.
Man: Thanks. Sorry we had to do this.
Colin: Yeah, I get it. It's procedure. Uh, you reckon I could have a moment here?
Man: Sure, no problem. Take your time.
Colin: I sent... I sent Blake to the church to-- to, uh... stop you. I knew you would-- (Stammers) You'd interrupt the wedding. (Sighs) But I swear I never intended for anything like this to happen. I know you hate me... for what happened to Samantha. And now... the same thing has happened to you. Both-- both of my children gunned down in the street like dogs. Because... because of what I do. How did... how did I get here? What is it gonna take? What is it gonna take to end this cycle? Otherwise... (Sniffles) I'm gonna finish up just like you. I'm the only one that can finish it. Charlie and Matilda must--must never find out about this. They must never be part of it. That much... that much I can do for you, Son. I promise. (Voice breaking) I love you, Cane. I love you, Son. (Sobs) I... (Sniffles) I promise I will make it right.
Colin: Good-bye.
Lily: Colin? What are you doing here?
Malcolm: (Sighs)
Sofia: Hey.
Malcolm: Kids still asleep?
Sofia: Charlie woke up, but I just put him back down and... how's Lily?
Malcolm: Neil took her to the morgue. She wanted to see the body one last time.
Malcolm: I'm... (Sighs) I'm gonna have a beer. You want something?
Sofia: Um, just... be patient with me, Malcolm. That's all I want now.
Malcolm: Yeah, okay, Baby.
Jill: Thank you.
Billy: Colin went to the morgue?
Murphy: Yeah, he offered to I.D. The body so your mom wouldn't have to.
Billy: Hmm. That's impressive.
Kay: Yes, isn't it?
Jill: I wish you'd all stop acting like he's some sort of evil troll who's after my money. Katherine, he got down on his hands and knees with Cane. He did everything he could to try and save him. He's been incredible through this whole thing. I couldn't ask for a more loving husband.
Billy: Maybe I've been a little too hard on him. Maybe he's a stand-up guy.
Murphy: Well, after how he's been with your mother, I... I have to agree.
Jill: Thank you, Murphy. Colin is decent and loving and kind, and I'm lucky to have found him.
Colin: Well, the detective explained to me that in the event of a homicide that this is kind of procedural. Somebody comes down here and looks at the body.
Neil: Oh, so you volunteered?
Colin: Well, I guess I'm not family in the traditional sense, but...
Neil: You wanted to spare Jill and Lily. I appreciate that.
Lily: Um, listen, thank you both for trying to make things easier, but, um, I just want to see Cane one more time.
Colin: I'll leave you, and, uh, you pay your last respects.
Neil: You want me to go in with you, or...
Lily: No, I... I want to be alone.
Neil: Okay, I'm just gonna go down to the cafeteria and get some... coffee.
(Pager beeps)
Lily: (Sighs) How do I do this? How do I say good-bye to you?
On the next "The Young and the Restless"...
Heather: Ronan? Ronan?
Paul: Ronan? Ronan?
Nina: Ronan? Oh, my God. Are you all right?
Heather: Can you hear me?
Kevin: It's okay. It's okay.
Chloe: No, no, no, no, no. It's not okay. It's not okay, because it's happening all over again.
Lily: I was wrong. I was so wrong.
