Episode # 9553 ~ A Christmas Carol

Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma

Reed: Do you get to stay overnight?

Nikki: Well, yes, I do get to stay overnight. That way, in the morning when you get up, I can watch you open all those presents from Santa.

Victoria: (Singsong voice) That's pretty awesome.

Billy: Hey, Buddy, let's go put on your jammies. Then we can come down and say good-bye to everybody, okay?

Victoria: (Normal voice) Thank you.

Nikki: Oh, okay. He's being very good.

Victoria: So thoughtful.

Billy: Let's go.

Nikki: I think it will be lovely, just the four of us.

Victoria: Mom, I really wish things could be different. But Dad has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want anything to do with us, and, frankly, I feel the same way about him.

(Doorbell rings)

Victoria: Oh, hey, that-- I think that's Abby. She said she might stop by. Uh, as for Nick, though, I really wouldn't hold my--

Victoria: Come on in.

Nikki: My goodness.

Victoria: Mom and I were just talking about you.

Nick: (Sighs)

Nikki: I'm so glad you're here.

Nick: I thought a lot about what you said, about how the only thing you want for Christmas is for the whole family to be together.

Nikki: And what did you decide?

Nick: Well, for you and the kids, I will put my issues aside with Billy so we can have a good holiday. Now Noah's away at a ski trip, but at least the girls will get to see their cousin.

Nikki: Thank you so much. Oh, you just made my Christmas, Son. Thank you.

Victoria: (Sighs) It'll be nice to have you here.

Nikki: (Sighs) If only your father could see things the way you do.

Victor: (Sighs)

[Victor remembering]

Nick: Dad, you can't just pretend it's not Christmas, all right? I'm gonna be here with my kids hangin' out. Faith and I would love to have you if you'd like to come.

Victor: Son, I'm not going to waste my time sitting around and singing Christmas carols, all right? I got work to do.

Nick: Well, nobody's tombstone ever said, "I wish I'd spent more time at work."

Victoria: Merry Christmas.

Victor: Bah! Humbug! What reason have I to be merry?

Victoria: What reason have you to be so miserable? You're rich enough.

Victor: Why the hell did you marry against my wishes?

Victoria: (Sighs) You know, all the times you read me that story when I was a little girl... who knew you'd actually turn into Scrooge?

Abby: Here. It's not much, but--

Victor: I don't want your present. I don't want it as long as you're part of this absurd lawsuit. I suggest you go home.

(Knock on door)

Victor: Come in.

Nikki: I figured you would still be here.

Victor: Are you stalking me now? What do you want?

Nikki: The same thing I wanted when we spoke earlier-- for you to join us tomorrow at Victoria's.

Victor: I saw my children. They don't want to see me, and the feeling's mutual, all right?

Nikki: Victor... (Sighs) It is Christmas.

Victor: I know damn well what day it is, all right? I don't give a damn. Do you understand that? Now let me be.

Nikki: (Sighs)

(Door slams)

Woman: Will you be needing anything else this evening?

Victor: No, thank you, Bonnie.

Bonnie: And tomorrow?

Victor: I'll be working from home, and I'd like you and the staff to be here as usual.

Bonnie: Yes, Mr. Newman. Good night.

Victor: Good night.

Man: You're watching the 24-hour marathon of "A Christmas Carol."

(Movie music playing)

Victor: (Sighs)

(Clock chimes midnight)

(Door slams)

Victor: Who's there?

Albert: Christian... Christian...

Victor: Who the hell are you?

Albert: You know. Say it. Say it!

Victor: You're not my father.

Albert: I'm not "A fragment of an underdone potato," if that's what you're hoping.

Victor: You're Albert Miller. The last time I talked to you, and I said good-bye to you, I meant it. I never want to see you again. Now tell me what you want and get the hell out of here.

Albert: I'm here. I wish I weren't, but I've been forced to wander the earth.

Victor: That's a fate you well deserve, you miserable son of a bitch, after all the pain you have caused people. What do you want?

Albert: Christian...

Victor: My name is Victor Newman!

Albert: You may go by that now, but you are Christian Miller, my son.

Victor: You have no right to call--

Albert: You're well on your way to ending up just like me.

Victor: Don't you tell me that nonsense.

Albert: When you came to see me before I died, you told me that wealth meant nothing without family. You hated me for abandoning you, but now you're doing the same thing to your children.

Victor: Because my children have turned their backs on me!

Albert: There is still time to save yourself. Please, Son!

Victor: You have no right to call me "Son." You miserable son of a bitch! You abandoned my mother and me! I grew up in a damned orphanage because of you!

Albert: If you won't listen to me, maybe you'll listen to the others. You'll be visited by three spirits, the first when the clock strikes 1:00. Heed... their warnings.

Victor: I don't heed anyone's warnings. I don't give a damn about spirits! I'm going to bed now! And when wake--wake up-- when I wake up, you'd better be gone! You'd better be gone! (Sighs) (Gasps) (Sighs) It's a damn dream... that damn picture I saw. (Sighs)

(Clock chimes 1:00)

Victor: Hope?

Hope: Hello, Victor.

Victor: I just had some bizarre dream. I just... but as long as you're part of it...

Hope: I want to take you somewhere.

Victor: Where do you want me to go?

Hope: Take my hand.

Victor: I know this place. She is my mother. That means...

Hope: It's Christmas Eve, the night she brought you to the orphanage.

Victor: My father ran out on us. My mother couldn't afford to keep me.

Young Christian: Mama, come back! Mama! Mama!

Woman: You'll be all right.

Young Christian: Mama!

Woman: You won't be alone. Shh.

Victor: But I wasn't all right. I cried myself to sleep every night. I wanted my mother to come back and get me, or mend the hole in my sleeve, but she never came back. It was... sometimes unbearable... till finally, one day I realized I was alone. And I got very angry. I just realized that I had to survive if I wanted to get the hell out of this place.

Teenage Christian: Don't say those things about my mother! (Grunts)

Boy: Why not? She dumped you because she didn't want you. You're no better than the rest of us.

Teenage Christian: You're wrong. I won't be stuck here like the rest of you. I'm getting out. (Breathing heavily)

Victor: I never looked back.

Hope: You vowed to make a new life for yourself, give yourself a new name, one that everyone would know, and you did. Christian Miller was gone forever, and Victor Newman announced his arrival. You achieved what so few others have, Victor. But more importantly, you found the love of your life.

Victor: Nikki is not the love of my life. She betrayed me many times.

Hope: How can you forget all the incredible things she's given to you? Things of substance-- a real home, a beautiful family, love. She wanted you to have balance in your life, to understand that your business was only one small part of your great success. Your first Christmas together as husband and wife, she gave you the most precious gift.

Nikki: I found your mother.

Victor: That's impossible.

Nikki: No, it isn't. You're gonna see her tomorrow.

Hope: Thanks to Nikki, you were able to spend one last Christmas together.

Victor: I don't want to be here anymore.

Hope: Victor. Victor.

Victor: What?

Hope: You need to remember.

Cora: You didn't like churches.

Victor: (Chuckles)

Cora: We never had anything to put in the collection.

Victor: (Laughs) (Sighs) But you always made me learn Psalms. (Chuckles) And then we took turns, remember?

Cora: (Sighs)

Victor: "And though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I... I shall fear no evil... because thou art part of me."

Cora: "Thou preparest a table before me. My cup runneth over." (Sighs) My son.

Victor: (Sighs) (Sighs)

Sabrina: Victor. Victor, wake up.

Victor: Sabrina? I have missed you.

Sabrina: I've missed you, too. (Sighs) But there is no time to be sad. We've got so much to do.

Victor: If I recall the story correctly, you're here to show me the present.

Sabrina: Let's see how your loved ones are keeping Christmas this year.

Victor: I have no interest in this.

Sabrina: I know that somewhere deep down, you still love your son. Think about what it means to spend Christmas alone.

Victor: Adam chose his path.

Sabrina: You framed him for a murder he didn't commit.

Victor: If he spends the rest of his life in here, he deserves it. It's the best thing for him, and the best thing for the rest of the world.

Sabrina: Are you sure of that, Victor? I'm afraid you'll come to regret this.

Victor: I can't stand the sight of him. Show me something else.

Traci: Oh.

Ashley: Anyway, I've told you this before. There was a time after I divorced Victor, I never thought I was going to let anybody in my heart ever again.

Tucker: I'm the lucky one. I can't wait to marry you.

Ashley: Me, too.

Victor: This is not real.

Sabrina: Isn't it?

Victor: Mnh-mnh.

Jack: So when are we picking up Steve at the airport?

Traci: In a couple of hours, and I would like to stop by the cemetery and visit Colleen, which reminds me-- very strange thing-- I ran--I ran into Victor last night, and he told me that he is spending the holiday working.

Jack: Trust me, that's a present to anyone who knows him.

(Doorbell rings)

Ashley: I'll get it.

Traci: I found it very sad.

Ashley: Hi.

Diane: Hello. Good morning. I'm so sorry I'm late.

Kyle: Mom! You're home.

Diane: Hey. Hello. Yes. Merry Christmas. Did you think I'd never come?

Kyle: It's okay. I like it here.

Diane: Good.

Jack: (Chuckles)

Diane: Well, I'm glad you were here with your father. I feel terrible that I had to work on Christmas Eve.

Jack: What exactly are you working on?

Diane: (Sighs) Well, I got a job. Victor hired me.

Traci: What?

Diane: And we have to work all weekend, but I am not gonna let that ruin Christmas morning with my son. Hmm?

Victor: I guess I'm "Ebenezer Scrooge" in this little pageant. You're none too subtle, are you?

Sabrina: I'm not trying to be.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nick: It is so good to see you, Bud. I didn't think we'd see you until after the New Year’s.

Abby: Hmm, no good powder out there, huh? Yeah. Uh-huh.

Noah: No, the skiing was fantastic. I just thought, hey, it's Christmas. This is where I should be.

Nikki: Well, we are just thrilled to have you. Mm.

Victoria: Hey, when is the last time we had this whole family under one roof together?

Billy: It's been too long.

Reed: Where's Grandpa?

Nikki: Honey... (Sighs) I'm so sorry. He wasn't able to be here today, but I know he really wanted to be.

Reed: Let's go look at the presents.

Victoria: Okay, let's be honest. Dad doesn't care about this family, and there's no way in hell that he wanted to be here.

Billy: Hear, hear.

Abby: Yes, everything is a mess, but I still really wish my dad was here.

Faith: (Babbles)

Victoria: Um, Abby, I know that you're kind of going through a rough time because you weren't prepared for your mom to get engaged, but I doubt that Dad being here would help anything.

Billy: (Chuckles) "Old Smiley"? Really? Come on. If anything, he'd only make it worse.

Nikki: It's Christmas. Let's not speak ill of Victor. I mean, I look around this room, and we're so lucky to be here, to have each other. Every face that's here... I love all of you so much, and I feel like I have everything, whereas Victor... has nothing. So I think that we should wish him well today, wish him good health and the happiest of holidays.

Nikki: To Victor.

Nick: Happy holidays.

(Glasses clinking)

Sabrina: They miss you.

Victor: Some do. Some don't. They just go on with their lives.

Sabrina: I wish our time together had made you feel differently.

Victor: Must you go?

Sabrina: Before I do, I-I have one last reminder for you.

Victor: I know my Dickens. The boy is "Ignorance," and the girl is "Want."

Sabrina: Then you know to beware of both of them. But most of all, the boy.

Victor: I am touched by your concern. But you know that I'm not ignorant.

Sabrina: You're a brilliant man. You're extremely cultured and well-read. But sometimes ignorance has nothing to do with what you know or you don't. It's about refusing to see things outside your own narrow point of view. And unless you see that and do something about it... You're doomed.

Victor: (Sighs) I know who you are. You're the ghost of Christmas yet to come. I'm sick and tired of this ridiculousness. This is the part where you show me my bleak future, isn't it? All right. Let's get on with it.

Jack: Thanks, Billy. It was good to see you, too. Oh, and tell Victoria I loved her ideas for the new ad campaigns for Beauty of Nature and Jabot.

Victor: So Victoria got her hands on my company and joined it with Jabot.

Jack: Take care. Hey, where's my beautiful wife?

Victor: What the hell? Jack is remarried?

Nikki: Here I am, Darling.

Jack: Hey.

Victor: What?

Girl: Till I say stop, and then you have to pick up the cards.

Billy: (Chuckles)

Victoria: What are you guys doin'?

Girl: Okay, stop.

Billy: A weird game.

Victoria: Oh, cool.

Girl: Pick up the cards.

Victor: So Victoria was able to have another child.

Victoria: Hey, uh, if you want the rest of your sandwich, I left it on the table for you.

Girl: Thank you.

Billy: (Chuckles)

Victoria: You're welcome.

Billy: Hey, look at this. King of diamonds, twirling his mustache. Who does that remind you of?

Victoria: Shh.

Billy: What? Oh, come on. What? She's never even met him.

Victoria: Our daughter is blissfully unaware that Victor Newman ever existed. Oh, she's on. Turn up the TV.

Billy: (Clears throat)

Woman: So what's new?

Abby: What's new? (Sighs) Gosh, where do I even start? Uh, I've been at a ton of book signings for my new memoir, "Abby Bares All." I am launching my own clothing line. And... Oh. Oh. (Laughs) Of course, uh, the newest season of "The Naked Heiress" starts next month, so be sure to keep watching.

Noah: Okay, Dad, just give me two minutes.

Nick: What's that?

Noah: It's a Christmas gift. It's a movie that you used to watch with me all the time when I was a kid.

Nick: I don't really have time for movies right now.

Noah: You know, ever since Grandpa got kicked off the board and you've taken over Newman, you've been a grade "A" jerk. All right, if you want to blow me off, fine. I'm an adult. I can take it. But do you even care about Summer and Faith?

Nick: Don't judge me. Don't do that. See, you get to traipse around the country singing your little songs. You have no idea what real responsibility is, so if you don't mind, Son, I have work to do.

Victor: What happened to you? I know you always worked hard, but you loved your children more than anything.

Sharon: I brought you something. You remember the last time we talked? I saw you in prison. You told me that... If anything ever happened to you, you wanted me to promise you that I would find a way to be happy and move on with my life. And now you're gone, murdered. Adam, please don't hold me to that promise. I know that it's been years, but I'm just... I'm not ready. God knows if I ever will be.

Victor: Take me home right now. It's cold as ice. I must have died... died some time ago. Why hasn't anyone found me?

Billy: How long did the coroner say he was dead?

Nick: A little over a week.

Nikki: It's tragic. But I'm glad he's at peace.

Abby: It's creepy out here.

Nikki: I know it isn't very pleasant, but I do appreciate you all coming.

Nick: He was my dad. I had to come. Now I have to get back to work.

Abby: I have a photo shoot.

Nikki: (Sighs)

Jack: Well, we'd better get home. (Sighs)

Victoria: It didn't have to be like this.

Billy: How did you think it was going to be? You okay?

Victoria: (Sighs)

Billy: Let's go.

Victor: Victoria?

Victor: Why are you doing this to me? Oh, I know. You're Colleen. I have your heart, and I think I've done wrong with your heart. I haven't. I promise you, I haven't. I know how the story ends. But it won't-- it won't end that way. I promise you. (Sighs)

Victor: Its Christmas morning. Morning, Bonnie. Thank you for showing up so promptly.

Bonnie: Of course, Mr. Newman. Shall I start upstairs or down?

Victor: No, let me give you this envelope here. Some special instructions inside.

Bonnie: (Sighs)

Victor: That's your Christmas bonus. Aren't you glad you showed up?

Bonnie: (Sighs)

Victor: And I want you to hand these out to the rest of the staff and tell them that they have the day off, all right? Merry Christmas to you.

Bonnie: Thank you, Sir, so much. You have a wonderful holiday.

Victor: I intend to. Thank you.

Victoria: Thanks. (Laughter)

Victor: This is for you. This is for you.

Abby: (Sighs)

Billy: "And God bless us, every one."

Victor: Thank you. Merry Christmas.

Victor: That's right. Good boy. You're a good boy. You're a good boy. That's right. I've got something for you. You know that? Look at this bone here. Look at that. Yeah. Oh, you like that. You like that. That's so funny. You like that. Yes. Yes.
