Phyllis: Did you get any sleep?

Daniel: Uh, I just kept reliving the grand jury, you know?

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Daniel: I should have listened to Michael and just pled the fifth.

Michael: Oh, I understand you wanting to speak up. Being goaded by Heather Stevens is no great--

Phyllis: I'm gonna strangle her. I am going to strangle her.

Michael: All right, you know what? One client per family, please.

Phyllis: Remember what I said yesterday-- this is not gonna be your life.

Michael: All right, now it's time to stop beating yourself up. We have to start prepping for the trial.

Phyllis: No, forget about the trial. We're not gonna let it go that far.

Michael: You know the state's position, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Yes, I do, that he killed Elkins, which he did not. They won't even consider that it's somebody else, which is why I have a plan.

Michael: All right, you know what? No. None of your clever schemes.

Phyllis: No? I'm gonna go to the D.A.'s office...

Michael: Phyllis!

Phyllis: Talk to Heather and her boss, talk to them until I make some sense of this, and talk some sense into her thick skull. This was Ryder and Deacon. They're guilty. They're the guilty ones, not my son, and I-I don't care about Callahan's alibi. I don't care about it. He's up to his neck in this. I-I-I need a drink. (Sighs)

Kevin: Well, look who finally decided to come out of hiding.

Ryder: I wasn't hiding.

Kevin: You left the courthouse yesterday to take a nap. Nobody has seen or heard from you since.

Ryder: I needed some space.

Kevin: Well, you missed all the fun.

Ryder: "Fun"?

Kevin: Seeing Daniel hauled off in handcuffs. But you knew that was gonna happen, since you took the fifth, hung him out to dry.

Ryder: Look, I can explain.

Kevin: You promised me that you were gonna help him. You even wished him luck before you went in front of the jury.

Ryder: I meant it.

Kevin: That's bull. You lied to me. You screwed over my best friend. I swore to everybody that you could be trusted. (Sighs) Man, did you have me snowed. (Sighs) Do you have anything to say for yourself before I kick your ass outta here?

Nick: (Sighs)

[Nick remembering]

Nick: (Sighs) Well, now he's latched on to you, Sharon. Why do you think that is? Because this punk can't get any leverage with me at the office. You are his new way to stick it to me.

Adam: Un-freaking-believable. You know, I was gonna stay out of this, 'cause clearly, you can handle this guy, but are you kidding me? Seriously, Nick? You don't understand how someone else could want Sharon? Which one of us is blind, or are you just an idiot? Maybe it's a little bit of both, but this woman right here is not your wife. Phyllis is your wife, Nick. So you can stop beating your chest now.

(Knock on door)

Victoria: Hey.

Nick: Hey, you.

Victoria: So... (Clears throat)

Nick: (Sighs)

Victoria: How's your wife?

Nick: Uh, she is upset and very scared.

Victoria: (Sighs) I'm sorry to hear that Daniel was arrested.

Nick: Yeah, Phyllis was up all night. She is determined to do whatever it takes to clear her son.

Victoria: And the nightmare continues.

Nick: Yeah. How'd you fare with the grand jury?

Victoria: Well, I told them-- I-I mean, I told them that Daniel helped me to return the painting to the museum, and I thought that it went well. (Sighs) But other than that, it was awful.

Nick: (Scoffs) You know, yesterday really sucked for me, too.

Victoria: Well, maybe I can cheer you up. I have decided to go in with you and Dad on the Chancellor public offering.

Nick: All right! What--what happened? I mean, you were so noncommittal the first time I brought it up. What changed?

Victoria: Well, you know, there are very few sure things in business, but it's guaranteed that whoever's in on this is gonna make a fortune.

J.T.: Katherine Chancellor is very interested in your proposal, Mr. McCall, but she insists you come to Genoa City. No, she realizes that you having a stake in the I.P.O. would greatly benefit her company. But she's invited friends and family to participate, and she's not gonna push them aside for someone she's never met. Yes, Sir, completely confidential. The only people I've spoken with are Katherine Chancellor and Neil Winters. Yeah, I understand. I'll wait for your call.

J.T.: (Sighs) (Sighs) I need you to meet me at home. It's important. We'll talk about it when you get there.

Victoria: Okay. I'll be right there. Uh, I gotta go.

Nick: (Sighs) All right.

Victoria: I'm being summoned, so...

Nick: Give my nephew a kiss for me...

Victoria: Okay.

Nick: And maybe put him in a headlock, too. It's more me.

Victoria: Right. Right. True. Okay.

Adam: Oh, sorry. Am I interrupting something important? Oh, wait, I forgot-- you don't work here.

Victoria: Right, unlike you, the junior V.P. who takes notes and goes for coffee--a lot.

Adam: Ouch.

(Cell phone rings)

Adam: (Clears throat) Hello?

Sharon: It's me.

Adam: Sharon, hey.

Sharon: I just wanted to thank you for yesterday.

Adam: Thank me?

Sharon: Yeah, um, you know, Nicholas barging in on us in bed, and you handled that a lot better than most men would have.

Adam: Well, his timing left something to be desired.

Sharon: It was just... (Sighs) It was a terrible way for him to find out.

Adam: Yeah, well, still, Nick was pretty nasty to you.

Sharon: I'm relieved that the truth is out, and the next step is to tell Noah.

Adam: Yeah, you need to tell him before somebody else does.

Sharon: Right.

Adam: Call you later?

Sharon: Um, sure.

Adam: Bye, beautiful.

Nick: What?

Adam: I spent the morning summarizing this trivial report. Is there anything else you need me to do for you?

Nick: (Sighs) Why don't you quit hiding behind Sharon? You want to mess with me, then do it, but leave her out of it.

Adam: Nick, I can't. I'm in too deep. You're just gonna have to face it.

Nick: (Sighs)

Adam: Your ex has feelings for me.

Phyllis: They didn't have root beer. (Sighs)

Michael: Look at me, Phyllis. Phyllis, do I really need to tell you why barging into the D.A.'s office is a terrible idea?

Daniel: Seriously. I got enough to worry about without you getting into trouble.

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Michael: Trust me, the last thing we need is for you to go rogue.

Phyllis: I am not "Rogue." Please, tell me what I can do.

Michael: Look, we've been through this before. It's all about the evidence. A--Daniel was at the scene of the crime, B--Daniel's fingerprints were on the murder weapon...

Phyllis: Here we go.

Michael: C--their only other suspect can prove that he was nowhere near that alley...

Daniel: (Chuckles) Well, when you lay it out like that, even I start to believe that I'm guilty.

Michael: And D-- they've only got Daniel's word that there was anyone else there that night.

Phyllis: There's gotta be something to point to.

Daniel: No, the cops were already all over that alley.

Michael: They found no evidence there was another person.

Daniel: So basically, I'm screwed.

Michael: To be honest, unless we find this mystery person, or some evidence that he exists and deliver him to the prosecution all wrapped up with a nice big red bow--

Phyllis: That's what we're gonna do. That's what we're gonna do. And I know someone who can help us.

Ryder: Look, I'm upset about what happened to Daniel, too.

Kevin: That's a load of crap.

Ryder: I mean it. I--Daniel's a cool guy.

Kevin: So you let him go to jail? And what about me? I mean, I give you a job, I let you into my home, and this is how you repay me?

Ryder: I was scared, Kevin.

Kevin: Of what? You're not the one looking at decades in prison. You--you have a red light photo that says you were out of town when Elkins was shot.

Ryder: Deacon told me that if I said anything to the grand jury, he would shut me up for good.

Kevin: Oh, and you thought Deacon was gonna follow through on that? (Scoffs) (Dishes clatter)

Ryder: Whenever Tom threatened me, he followed through.

Kevin: (Sighs) Why didn't you come to me? I could have protected you.

Ryder: I-I panicked. I didn't know what to do.

Kevin: (Sighs) You never planned on telling the truth, did you?

Ryder: Of course I did. It's just Deacon said those things, and I freaked out.

Kevin: And threw Daniel under the bus.

Ryder: It was him or me. And he's going to jail, but at least he's alive.

Kevin: You really believed that Deacon was gonna kill you?

Ryder: You don't know Deacon like I do-- how angry he gets. I was fighting for my life.

Kevin: (Sighs)

Noah: (Sighs)

Sharon: Hey, Sweetie.

Noah: (Exhales slowly)

Sharon: How was your day?

Noah: Long. (Sniffs) What smells so good?

Sharon: I'm making banana bread.

Noah: Sweet!

Sharon: You have homework?

Noah: (Groans) Tons.

Sharon: Mm. It's almost exam time.

Noah: Yeah, I-I just stopped by home to say hi. I'm supposed to meet some kids to study, unless you want me to stay.

Sharon: No. Um, but there is something that I want to talk to you about.

Noah: About what?

Sharon: Well, um, you know that Adam and I have been spending a lot of time together, right?

Noah: Yeah, sure. You're friends.

Sharon: Right, but now it's just-- it's become more than friends.

[Noah remembering]

Nick: Look, you're gonna be going to college in a couple years. Maybe we could do a split-week thing so I could see you some more.

Noah: What happened to "I should look after Mom? She's probably lonely"? That was you yesterday.

Nick: I know, and you'll still be with her, just not all the time.

Noah: Leave? After everything she's been through with the baby? You know, I'm not a kid anymore, and--and I may not be there as much as I could be with school and Eden, but Mom knows she can count on me. So, no, I'm not moving. And if that bugs you--

Nick: You are totally right.

Noah: (Sighs)

Nick: You're not a kid anymore. But, Noah, you are my kid, all right? So if anything is weird for you or it ticks you off--

Noah: Like what, Dad? Come--come on.

Nick: Just, son-- just humor me, okay? Can you do that?

Noah: (Sighs)

Nick: You need anything, anything at all, I don't care what it is, you call me, and I'm there.

Noah: Does Dad know?

Sharon: Yes, and he is not happy about it.

Nick: This is payback, and you know it.

Adam: How do you hold your head up with an ego that big?

Nick: Why don't you just admit it? I made you a glorified gofer. You resent taking orders from me. You think this work is beneath you.

Adam: It is. But my problems with you started long before Sharon and I made love.

Nick: So it's just a coincidence that I received an e-mail from Sharon asking me to come over?

Adam: I don't know anything about any kind of an e-mail.

Nick: Oh, like you'd admit it if you did.

Adam: Look, I don't even know why we're talking about this, okay? She is not property. It is none of your business who she is with.

Nick: Even though we're not married anymore, it doesn't mean that I won't look out for Sharon.

Adam: See, that's just it, okay? She doesn't need you to, all right? She--she--she's a grown woman capable of making her own decisions, and if she wanted someone to look after her, it wouldn't be you. You had your choice, and you chose Phyllis.

Nick: You leave Phyllis out of this.

Adam: Look... (Sighs) You sit here like you're the hero and I'm the villain. But you gotta remember something-- you hurt Sharon, not me.

Nick: So--so you don't think it's gonna hurt Sharon when she finally realizes that you're just using her?

Adam: No, see, because I care about her a lot.

Nick: Well, then prove it.

Adam: How?

Nick: Back off.

Adam: (Scoffs)

Nick: She just lost a child. She's been depressed. She is fragile.

Adam: (Sighs) With you, maybe. With me, she is happy. She is content. Of--of course she's still grieving, but she has the same passion for life she always has. And unlike you, I can keep her satisfied.

Nick: Now, hey, that--that is enough.

Adam: No, listen, it--it--

Nick: That is enough.

Adam: Nick, the thing is, I am not married, okay? So I can--I can make her happy as often as she wants, whenever she wants it. (Grunts)

Nick: Go ahead. Keep pushing me and see what happens, please.

Adam: You've been a jerk to me since day one. You've humiliated me in every way possible here at Newman, and I have sucked it up. And if you think I'm gonna be your punching bag because you have a beef with my personal life, then you're gonna have to reevaluate what--

Nick: You just stay away from Sharon, and we won't have any more problems. How's that?

Adam: Oh, you already have a problem, Nicholas. You just blew it, big-time.

Sharon: I didn't want to keep this from you.

Noah: (Sighs) I'm glad that you didn't.

Sharon: You know, Adam has done some things in the past that he's ashamed of, but he has a great heart. And where would any of us be without second chances, right?

Noah: (Sighs) I don't want you to be alone, but don't you think it's kind of soon?

Sharon: Well, I'm not gonna pretend that I'm over the loss of your sister, because I'm not, but there is only so many tears that I can cry, and at some point, you have to live life.

Noah: You know I'm here for you, right? I'm not gonna bail on you.

Sharon: Come here.

Noah: (Sighs)

Sharon: Thanks, Sweetie.

Noah: Especially now that you're baking.

Sharon: Oh, get outta here.

Noah: (Laughs)

Sharon: I don't want to keep your posse waiting.

Noah: Yeah.

(Timer buzzes)

Sharon: Oh, my timer. I'll see you later.

Noah: Bye. (Sighs) Hey, can we hook up at the coffeehouse? I have some really weird news.

Paul: I heard about Daniel's arrest. I'm so sorry.

Phyllis: Thank you. That's why I called you over here, Paul.

Michael: Hey.

(Cell phone rings)

Michael: Oh. Michael Baldwin. All right. Uh, calm down. Yes. Y-- all right, all right. I'll be there as soon as I can, okay? Yeah.

Phyllis: So who was that?

Michael: Your hubby. He needs me at Newman.

Phyllis: What'd he say?

Michael: Apparently, something went down between Nicholas and Adam.

[Phyllis remembering]

Phyllis: Thanks for sparing Nick the other night. I really appreciate it. We weren't up for dealing with Sharon's latest crisis.

Jack: I don't think Nick is ever gonna be up for this one.

Phyllis: What do you mean?

Jack: Sharon is seeing Adam.

Phyllis: Uh, "Seeing" Adam, as in--

Jack: Meaning, they're involved.

Phyllis: Well, those two were bound to butt heads eventually.

Victoria: Hi. Where's Reed?

J.T.: With the nanny.

Victoria: Oh. Well, I'm glad that you called. There's something that I-- I need to tell you.

J.T.: Yeah, same here.

Victoria: Um, me first. I know that you wanted me to hold off on the I.P.O., but I-- I told Nick that I'm in.

J.T.: It's your decision, your money.

Victoria: Well... (Clears throat)

J.T.: (Sighs)

Victoria: What did you want to-- what did you want to tell me?

J.T.: Billy's latest masterpiece.

Victoria: "'Restless--' rumors that Victoria Newman Hellstrom, heiress to the Newman fortune, had an affair with Deacon Sharpe, a local art dealer, have been confirmed. (Sighs) According to a reliable source, the very married Mrs. Newman admitted it while testifying before the grand jury about the Elkins murder case." (Sighs) This-- (scoffs) This testimony was supposed to be sealed!

J.T.: People can be bought, Victoria.

Victoria: No, I-- I have been counting the days until I was gonna be able to go back to work, and this is gonna set me back s-- (Scoffs)

J.T.: Th-that's--that's what you're worried about?

Victoria: (Sighs) Well... (Sighs)

J.T.: Yeah, no, of course it is. Yeah, because, uh, Newman Enterprises is all you really care about.

Victoria: You are wrong. Newman is not all I care about.

J.T.: Uh-huh.

Victoria: (Sighs) Look, I told you. I warned you that I was probably gonna have to come clean about Deacon and me in court.

J.T.: Well, and now it's in "Restless Style."

Victoria: Well, do you think that I wanted that to happen? Is that what you think? Do you know, it was sickening enough having to talk about it in a closed setting, but for Billy to put it out there for the whole world to look at--

J.T.: Well, now--

Victoria: He knew that it would ruin my career.

J.T.: I just wanted you to know so you weren't blindsided by some reporter.

Victoria: (Sighs) Oh, God, and the press--great. The press is gonna be all over this.

J.T.: Well, you play, you pay.

Victoria: Why are you acting like this?

J.T.: Like what?

Victoria: You're acting so cold, like you don't even care about any of this.

J.T.: (Sighs)

(Cell phone rings)

Victoria: No! No! We need to talk this out.

(Ring)

J.T.: When I wanted to talk, you couldn't be bothered. Yeah, hi, Ken. How's Mr. McCall's office coming along?

Victoria: (Sighs)

Paul: Okay, I've kept tabs on the case. And the prosecution seems confident that they have enough to convict.

Phyllis: Okay, it's-- it's because they're-- they're too lazy to do any real investigation.

Paul: They have nothing else to go on. There are no additional fingerprints. There are no eyewitnesses that can support Daniel's claim that there was another shooter.

Phyllis: That you know of. That you know of.

Paul: That I know of.

Phyllis: Yes, exactly. Listen, there's gotta be some evidence that supports Daniel's theory. There's gotta be.

Paul: Okay.

Phyllis: The cops may have it, and they don't even know they have it.

Paul: That may be, but I don't have the authority to look at the--the case file.

Phyllis: I-I-I-I'm not asking you to do anything illegal. I'm not doing that, Paul. Just come on. Can't you do something?

Paul: (Groans) All right. There may be one way I can get a peek at the case file. But you're not gonna like it.

Phyllis: I-I don't-- I don't care. I don't--I don't care. I'll do anything to help my son.

Kevin: You hangin' in?

Daniel: Oh, yeah. Do I really have a choice?

Kevin: (Sighs) We're gonna figure out a way to get you out of this.

Daniel: (Chuckles) You know, Mom says that same thing. Even she can't work miracles.

Kevin: Well, I confronted Ryder.

Daniel: What'd he say?

Kevin: He says that Deacon threatened to take him out if he talked.

Daniel: You believe him?

Kevin: (Sighs) Something's scaring the hell out of him.

Daniel: (Scoffs) Losing his meal ticket, probably.

Kevin: If you'd seen his face-- I know that look, Daniel. I've been through that kind of terror. You can't fake that.

Daniel: You know what? You know what? You know what? Let's just forget about Ryder, all right? Let's change the subject. Let's talk about something else. (Sighs)

Adam: Thanks, Dana.

Michael: What are you doing?

Adam: Documenting the evidence.

Michael: Tell me you didn't punch him.

Nick: Yeah, I punched him.

Michael: As your friend, I sympathize, but as your attorney-- this wasn't just a bar fight. This was the C.E.O. of Newman Enterprises punching his visually impaired brother who just also happens to be an employee. And you can bet that's how Adam's gonna spin it.

Nick: Yeah, I know. I know, Michael. The question is, what can we do about it?

Michael: (Sighs)

Heather: I can spare a few minutes.

Phyllis: I appreciate it, Heather. Thank you.

Heather: Right, well, I came because my father asked me to.

Phyllis: Right. Listen, uh, I know you don't like me, but this isn't about me. It's about a young man's life. And I know you have very high morals, and I appreciate that. And I know it's your job to find the truth.

Heather: Yes, it is.

Phyllis: Okay, well, the truth is that my son has been set up, and now he's being railroaded.

Heather: Not according to the evidence.

Phyllis: But the evidence-- the evidence is circumstantial. My son is not the killer.

Heather: I thought you brought me here because you had something new to say.

Phyllis: You know, I-I'm--I'm desperate, okay? I hope to God you never have to go through this. I hope to God you never have to watch your son's life be ruined. (Sighs) Listen, I'm trying to protect him, and every time I turn around, I'm hitting a brick wall. (Sighs)

Paul: Could you give us a moment?

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Heather: (Sighs) (Scoffs) Look, if you asked her to leave so that--so that you could pull the father card... (Sighs) This is not fair.

Paul: Stop it. I understand the evidence against Daniel is overwhelming. I have known-- I have known him a long time, and he is a good kid, Heather.

Heather: What do you want from me?

Paul: I want to look at the case file.

Heather: Absolutely not. I can't do that.

Paul: (Sighs) I need to see how the police handled the investigation.

Heather: You know that I--

Paul: Look, if they did a great job, fine. I'm okay with it. But if they missed something...

Heather: (Sighs)

Paul: I need to know.

Heather: This is so unfair that you're using our relationship.

Paul: Okay, I'm not using our relationship, and it's not unfair. If you were in Daniel's position, I would do anything I-- I possibly could to save you. Now I'm asking you, for a moment, don't think about being an A.D.A. think about how you might be able to help this kid.

Kevin: I'm so sorry I let you down.

Daniel: No, man, you were just trying to get Ryder to tell the truth.

Kevin: I was so sure that--

Daniel: You know, I'm worried about you, Kevin. You got this guy living in your apartment. You got him working in your coffeehouse and handling your money. He's wormed his way into every part of your life. I'm scared that next time, it's gonna be you or someone you love that he targets.

Michael: Thank you for joining us, Adam.

Adam: You heard what Nick did.

Michael: Nick deeply regrets what he did.

Nick: Yes. It was inappropriate.

Michael: I am hoping you can put this behind you with the promise it won't happen again.

Adam: You want me to chalk this up to sibling rivalry?

Michael: Adam, I know you're angry. But this is good enough--

Adam: Save your breath, Baldwin. An apology ain't gonna cut it.

Michael: Meaning what?

Adam: I'm getting my own lawyer. I'm filing charges, and I'm suing Nick...

Nick: (Sighs)

Adam: For assault.

Abby: Your mom is really dating Adam? Ew.

Noah: (Sighs)

Abby: Is it serious?

Noah: I think she really likes him.

Abby: He's so creepy.

Noah: Yet somehow, he got my mom to trust him.

Abby: Yeah, mine, too.

Noah: Okay, you-- you live with the guy. Tell me what I should look out for.

Abby: He doesn't really do anything wrong. I just have such a bad feeling about him. And after what he did to my dad--

Noah: What, that phony diary?

Abby: I mean, he's been great to my mom, but I still wish he would move out.

Noah: Hey, whoa. Don't be wishing that.

Abby: (Chuckles)

Noah: I don't want him at my house.

Abby: So what are you gonna do about it?

Noah: (Sighs heavily) Keep an eye on him. Watch out for my mom. You know, she's had a really bad year, and I don't want her to fall apart again.

Abby: It's pathetic, isn't it?

Noah: What?

Abby: We're more stable than our parents.

Noah: (Scoffs)

(Telephone rings)

Sharon: Hello?

Adam: Can I come over?

Sharon: Well, now?

Adam: Something happened.

Sharon: What is it?

Adam: Uh, not over the phone.

Sharon: But—

(Phone hangs up)

Sharon: Adam?

(Doorbell rings)

Sharon: Nick. What do you want?

Nick: May I please come in?

Sharon: Yesterday, you thought I was disgusting, and now you want to chat?

Nick: I apologize for that. I shouldn't have gone off on you.

Sharon: Then why did you?

Nick: I was caught off guard, and I was upset.

Sharon: Were you jealous?

Nick: No.

Sharon: So then if you've come over here to tell me again how Adam is just using me--

Nick: He is, to get back at me, and it worked.

Sharon: What do you mean?

Nick: I saw him earlier. He was... (Sighs) Bragging about the two of you, how great you are together. I lost it.

Sharon: What did you do?

Nick: I punched him in the face.

Sharon: Oh, great. What, are you 12?

Nick: Sharon, if you heard what he was saying--

Sharon: What did he say?

Nick: All right, maybe it wasn't what he was saying, but how he was saying it. Everything was so calculated. Do you really think that it was an accident that I showed up here yesterday when I did?

Sharon: You said that you got an e-mail from me telling you to come over.

Nick: You said you didn't send it. So who do you think did?

Sharon: I don't know. I mean, I was in a rush. Maybe I hit "Send" accidentally.

Nick: No, no, no, no. Sharon, no. It was Adam. And then showing up in my office, saying how much happier you are with him-- now he's threatening to sue me for assault, Sharon.

Sharon: You're kidding!

Nick: He tricked me into hitting him, and I fell for it. Do you really think he's not gonna milk this?

Sharon: Do you really think that he wanted you to punch him?

Nick: I honestly believe that he did. Sharon, I swear to you that I will leave you alone. I will stop interfering in your life if you will just open your eyes up and see Adam for who he really is. There is nothing real about your relationship with him.

J.T.: Yeah, that's fine. Just make the call. All right. I'll be there in a few. (Sighs)

Victoria: So you're leaving?

J.T.: There's a problem with the new office furniture.

Victoria: You know, um, you can't really just keep avoiding me, J.T.

J.T.: Well, your affair with Deacon is old news. I've dealt with it.

Victoria: Oh, have you?

J.T.: We're still together, aren't we?

Victoria: Well, we may be living in the same house... (Sighs) But it's really been a long time since we've connected. I understand that you're angry and you're resentful. But until you deal with this, and until you let it out, we're just treading water here.

J.T.: (Chuckles) All right, so now all of a sudden, everything is my fault. Okay.

Victoria: No, I'm not saying that. I didn't say that. I-I-it's just that you're not doing anything to fix anything.

J.T.: Well, why bother? You know, no-nothing I say is gonna make a difference. You just hear what you want and ignore the rest.

Victoria: No, that's not true.

J.T.: No, it is true. It is true. The other day, I advised you not to make a move on that I.P.O., but you did it anyway, just like I knew you would, because that's who you are. This marriage is not a partnership. It's "Victoria's world," and I'm just existing in it. I told you there was nothing between Colleen and me except friendship. But you didn't believe me, so you just hopped in bed with Deacon just to get even.

Victoria: Listen, I've tried--I've tried to apologize for that. I--

J.T.: And--and you said you wanted to-- to work on our marriage. You--you moved to New York with me, and you say you still want to work on our marriage.

Victoria: You don't believe me?

J.T.: How can I? You obviously resent the fact that I'm working and you're not, even though you brought this on yourself. And now your-- your one-night stand is online for everyone to read about, so, yeah, I'm pissed! I'm pissed! But I don't have time to deal with it. You know what? I got more important things to do.

(Front door slams)

Ryder: Hey, I, uh, I fixed the espresso machine. Are you okay? Look, I can walk out the door, and I will never bother you again.

Kevin: Did I say that? Jeez. (Sighs)

Michael: You look how I feel.

Kevin: I just came from the jail.

Michael: Yeah, I saw Daniel earlier, too.

Kevin: It's like he's given up. He doesn't think he's ever getting out.

Michael: He may think it's over, but it's not.

Kevin: (Sighs)

Michael: Ryder, when Daniel goes to trial, I'm gonna call you and your buddy Deacon to the stand.

Ryder: He's not my buddy.

Michael: If you try to plead the fifth like you did with the grand jury, the judge will find you in contempt. So as I see it, you have two options.

Ryder: What?

Michael: Oh... (Sighs) Share everything with me now, or go to jail and wish you had. Either way, I'm gonna find out what you're hiding, Ryder. You know why? 'Cause I'm not gonna give up till I do.

Paul: I owe you one.

Heather: Yeah, I know you mean well, but there's nothing to find. Romalotti's guilty. I gotta go.

Paul: All right, see ya.

Heather: Okay. Bye.

(Cell phone rings)

Phyllis: Hey, what's up?

Paul: Uh, I read the case report. The police canvassed the neighborhood the night of the homicide.

Phyllis: So it's a dead end?

Paul: If there was a man, a third man, in the alley, he had to park nearby. He wouldn't risk getting caught on foot.

Phyllis: So you'll check that out?

Paul: I'm gonna see if there are any parking violations that were issued that night. I'm gonna check out the-- the local gas stations.

Phyllis: Well, that's g-- that's good. Good.

Paul: Also, these places have a lot of, um, surveillance cameras. So if we can see someone who's, uh, acting suspiciously or driving in a strange manner--

Phyllis: So this is great. I mean, you're-- you're giving me hope here. This is good.

Paul: Well-- well, don't get too excited. You know, it's still a long shot if any of this is gonna pan out.

Phyllis: Yeah, but it sounds good, and--and--and I'm gonna get off the phone before I start to cry. Thank you, Paul. (Sighs)

Nick: What was-- what was that about?

Phyllis: Paul has agreed to work on Daniel's case.

Nick: That's great.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Nick: I mean, if anybody can dig something up, it's Paul.

Phyllis: Yeah, definitely. Definitely. He's not the only one who's real good at digging things up. "Re-Restless Style" just, um, ran an exposé on, uh, Deacon and Victoria. They used direct quotes from her testimony. She admitted to the affair.

Nick: Can this day get any worse?

Phyllis: Oh, that reminds me, um, what happened with Adam? Uh, I was-- I was here when Michael got the call from you.

Nick: Well, I gave him a black eye, and now he's threatening to press charges.

Phyllis: Oh. Wow. I mean, he's been bothering you for months. W-why did you-- why did you lose it now?

Nick: (Sighs) Uh...

Phyllis: Um, you don't have to give me the details. It's fine.

Nick: You don't want 'em?

Phyllis: Mnh-mnh. I'm sure whatever he did, he had it coming.

Adam: Thanks for letting me come over. (Sighs) I'm sure you're wondering how I got the shiner.

Sharon: I'm wondering a little bit more than that. Why are you with me, Adam?

Adam: You know why.

Sharon: Okay, well, tell me again, then. Is it because you have strong feelings for me, or is it because you just want revenge on Nick?

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Michael: If you're gonna sue the company along with Nicholas, you are essentially suing your father.

Adam: That will be on Nicholas' head.

Lauren: I think it's time that you and I have a serious talk.

Chloe: And the guy that stabbed you is out there roaming the streets?

Chance: There's gotta be something more to this.
