Kay: Aha. Billy, I'm afraid Delia is down for the night.
Billy: Well, is Mom around?
Kay: No, Darling. She's, uh, she's over at the hospital.
Billy: How is Chance doing?
Kay: Well, from what I understand, uh, he's doing quite well. That, uh, knife wound could have been a lot worse.
Billy: Well, he is a lucky guy.
Kay: I'm, uh, going over, uh, shortly to see him-- check on Lily and Cane.
Billy: He certainly has you guys all snowed. I don't--
Kay: Oh, come now.
Billy: I don't get it. I don't get it. I mean, after all he's done to this family, why would you welcome him back? I mean, he's not-- he's not to be trusted. What's it gonna take for you guys to just get this jerk out of our family?
Cane: (Sighs)
Mac: You know, pretty soon, that could be you and Lily with your baby.
Cane: It's almost too much to hope for.
Mac: Think again. I saw my doctor today, and I had full physical, and he said there's no reason why I can't be a surrogate.
Chance: (Sighs)
Chloe: (Chuckles)
Chance: (Chuckles) Well, I can play "Solitaire," the old-fashioned style.
Chloe: Mm. Well, Murphy taught me "Rummy."
Chance: Ahh, well, I will warn you now, I don't take prisoners.
Chloe: (Scoffs) Neither do I. Hello?
Chance: (Chuckles)
Chloe: I also-- I got you something from the juice bar down the street.
Chance: Uh, wow. Thank you.
Chloe: Here, let me.
Chance: That's a lot of juice.
Chloe: (Chuckles) Well, you know, I know how disgusting the food is in the hospital. When I was here with Delia, it was--blech. You know, that chicken broth and applesauce...
Chance: Well, it can't be any worse than the four fingers of death.
Chloe: (Sighs) What's that?
Chance: Oh, um... (Chuckles) (Groans) Ow. Gosh. Um, four franks in an M.R.E. it's a meal, ready to eat. It's a field ration that they give you. It's horrible. But compared to that, I mean, the food here at Memorial, it seems gourmet. So... I mean, what--what is-- what is this? What's in it?
Chloe: Oh, well, that is the "Awesome Aussie." And you will find in this wonderful juice... (Chuckles) Uh, I don't know. Wheatgrass and banana-strawberry, and kiwi.
Chance: Did you say "Kiwi"?
Chloe: Yeah.
Chance: Chloe, I'm allergic to kiwis.
Chloe: You're joking, right?
Chance: No, I'm not joking, but I--
Chloe: What--no, well, then give it back to me. Are you kidding me? I almost just poisoned you. (Chuckles)
Chance: Look, don't worry, I'm not gonna let a fuzzy little fruit be the demise of me.
Chloe: (Sighs)
Chance: (Sighs) Are you aller-- are you allergic to anything? Foods I should know about?
Chloe: Nope.
Chance: Nothing?
Chloe: Polyester. Mm-hmm.
Chance: You know, it's funny, we've been living underneath the same roof for, how long now? And I still feel like there's so much that I don't even know about you.
Chloe: Well, you know, I got you the "Awesome Aussie"-- with your dad living there and all.
Chance: Yeah.
Chloe: Have you heard from him yet?
Chance: Not since he left.
Nina: I can't believe Phillip just disappeared. He hasn't even called to check in on his son.
Jill: He was here all night, Nina. I'm sure he just went back to the club for a nap and shower and--
Nina: Yeah, but he was here one minute, and he was gone the next. He didn't even say good-bye. I mean, Chance is acting like he doesn't care, but he does. He's hurt.
Jill: Well, look, I left word on Phillip's machine. I-I'm sure he's gonna call back.
Nina: Yeah, well, good luck with that. He hasn't answered any of my messages, which is pretty gutless, if you ask me.
Jill: This is a lot for him to process, okay? Just give him some time.
Nina: Oh, poor Phillip. He walks out on his son 20 years ago, and now he needs time? Chance has been stabbed! He's lying in a hospital bed after surgery.
Jill: What is the problem? He showed up, didn't he?
Nina: No, you don't get to decide when to be a parent, when it's convenient for you. You know, you put aside what's going on in your life, and you show up full-time.
Jill: (Sighs) Look, you are making a big deal out of nothing, okay? Or maybe it's just because you're feeling a little bit abandoned yourself.
Nina: No, putting yourself first-- that's more your style, not mine.
Paul: Did you miss me? I bet you did. (Sighs)
Jill: Paul, its Jill checking in. Have you made any progress in the search for Katherine's daughter?
Paul: Well, kind of.
(Knock on door)
Paul: Hold on.
Paul: (Sighs) Hey, Phillip. Hi.
Phillip: Hey, I hope you don't mind me stopping by like this.
Paul: Uh, no, not at all. Uh, come on in. I was, uh--
Phillip: I've been having such a hard time since the stabbing, man.
Paul: Hold on a second. What--what stabbing? I-I was out of town.
Phillip: Oh, some punk robbed the coffee shop. Chance tried to stop them.
Paul: Oh, God. Is he all right?
Phillip: Uh, he's gonna recover. He's in the hospital.
Paul: Jeez, I'm--I'm sorry. Wha-- Nina must be a wreck, huh?
Phillip: Yeah. Yeah. But, well, you know Nina-- tough as an ox on the outside. But inside, yeah, she's freaking. Paul, I'm not too good at holding Nina's hand, so, uh, I thought maybe-- maybe you could go to the hospital, give her some support?
Paul: (Sighs)
Amber: You can't marry me? Daniel, we are planning our wedding.
Daniel: Michael called. All right, Ryder has an airtight alibi for the night Elkins was killed. It means the charges against him are gonna be dropped, and I could be back on the hook for murder.
Amber: I thought this was all over.
Daniel: I did, too. I'm sorry.
Amber: No, no, no, no. This doesn't change a thing, okay? You are innocent. You didn't do this.
Daniel: Circumstantial evidence against me.
Amber: Deacon was at the club earlier. Want to make a bet he has something to do with this?
Daniel: Maybe, maybe not.
Amber: You know what? I'm gonna go track him down.
Daniel: No, you're not gonna go track him down.
Amber: (Chuckles) You don't get to be the boss of me until we're married, and even then--
Daniel: Amber, I'm serious. There's not a chance that I'm gonna marry you, not if I could spend the next 20 years or more in jail, all right? End of the discussion.
Chloe: Okay, so...
Chance: Hmm?
Chloe: What's your favorite band?
Chance: Metallica. Old-school Metallica.
Chloe: Cool.
Chance: You?
Chloe: Um, it would have to be the Strokes and Arcade Fire.
Chance: Ahh, good choice. Favorite movie?
Chloe: "Lion King." Okay, look--
Chance: What?
Chloe: I was-- when I was a kid, my best friend took us out of boarding school, and we went to go see it, and when Mufasa died, I lost it. I know, I was a dork.
Chance: A cute dork.
Chloe: (Chuckles) Okay, what's your favorite movie?
Chance: "Lord of the Rings" and "Wedding Crashers."
Chloe: Mm.
Chance: What?
Chloe: Mm.
Chance: Okay, so maybe you're not a fan of "L.O.T.R."
Chloe: Mnh-mnh.
Chance: But it's really, really cool. (Chuckles)
Chloe: (Chuckles)
Chance: Ow, don't make me laugh.
Chloe: (Chuckles)
Chance: Aah. Okay, so... (Groans) We don't have to necessarily agree on the same things. We don't have to like the same things.
Chloe: Yeah, but, you know, I fell like I should know this kind of stuff. I shouldn't have to ask you.
Chance: How? What, are you gonna read my mind?
Chloe: Well, I don't know. Aren't girlfriends supposed to know these kind of things?
Chance: Why are you asking me? I mean, you're the one with all the experience here.
Chloe: All of the experience?
Chance: Yeah.
Chloe: Are you serious?
Chance: Yes.
Chloe: No, I kind of bypassed the whole girlfriend thing and went straight to marriage. I don't know. I-I don't even know if I can be a good girlfriend. I may suck at it.
Chance: I've been to war, but I've never been in a relationship.
Chloe: Yeah, aren't they kind of the same thing?
Chance: No, not if it's the right relationship.
Chloe: Well, most guys look at me for a good time, not for a long time.
Chance: Why would you say that about yourself?
Chloe: I know the perfect thing to give you so you can understand a little bit better.
Chance: What? No.
Chloe: Yeah.
Chance: Don't go. Just-- just stay here. Let's talk.
Chloe: No, no, no, I gotta do it. Just trust me. It's gonna be good.
Chance: I-I don't want you to...
Chloe: Trust me.
Chance: Leave.
Paul: There you go.
Phillip: Yeah. What's his name?
Paul: Uh, Kitty Kitty.
Phillip: (Chuckles) I would have thought you'd name your cat "Marlowe" or "Kojak."
Paul: Well, actually, it's, um, it's not my cat. It's my sister's. I'm just taking care of him until she, um, recovers.
Phillip: I'm sorry to hear about your sister, Paul. I know that's gotta be rough.
Paul: Yeah, well, you know, she's family. I stick by her, even through the tough times.
Phillip: Is that some kind of dig?
Paul: Oh, no. It wasn't meant to be. Uh, now that you bring it up, I gotta ask. Why are you here and not at the hospital?
Phillip: I don't feel like I belong there, you know? I don't feel like I-I-- (Stammers) I-I don't feel like I've got a right to be there.
Paul: You know, Heather didn't welcome me with open arms when I wanted a second chance at being her father.
Phillip: How did you turn that around?
Paul: Two words-- "Love" and "Support." It was difficult. We're still working on it.
Phillip: I'd really like a relationship with Chance.
Paul: Well, after what you've done, you've gotta earn it. It's gonna take a lot of hard work and a tough skin, let me tell you. You gotta show up, even when it doesn't feel like you're welcomed. Nothing's to be gained by running out. I can go to the hospital if you want me to, but I can't take your place.
Jill: Give Phillip time. I know he's trying to do the right thing.
Nina: By walking out on his son again?
Jill: Oh, my God, we can't treat him like we did 20 years ago. He is a man now.
Nina: Oh, and this is how he shows it? He--he reappears and turns our world upside down.
Jill: I thank God he's still alive, Nina.
Nina: Well, you know, so do I, but we're so caught up in that-- I don't know him, and neither do you.
Jill: How can you say that?
Nina: And we clearly didn't know him back then, either, or he wouldn't have faked his own death to get away from us.
Jill: (Sighs) That was a different time.
Nina: He's been living another life for 20 years. We have no idea. He could be some selfish, crappy guy who doesn't care about anyone but himself.
Jill: No. I know my son. He has a good heart.
Nina: Yeah, well, right now, he's screwing with my son. I'm not gonna stand by and let it happen.
Cane: Her temperature is normal, but she's frail, and the doc said that, um, he wants her to get a lot of rest so hopefully, she will sleep through the night.
Mac: Please tell me you're going home to get a good night's sleep yourself.
Cane: (Sighs) Yeah, I promised Lily I would, but the thought of going home to an empty house isn't really something I'm looking forward to. And Humphrey's not there. He's off with Devon, and... (Groans)
Mac: Well, if I were you, I would enjoy the quiet, because pretty soon, you are gonna be walking the floors with a colicky baby in your arms at 2:00 A.M.
Cane: (Chuckles) It's gonna be music to my ears.
Mac: I will remind you you said that.
Cane: Can I, um... (Sighs) Can I bounce something off you? I don't talk to Lily about it, 'cause I know it'll just-- I don't know. It's just gonna upset her.
Mac: Of course.
Cane: We only have two embryos. And this is a one-shot deal, and it's a long shot at that. And if it doesn't work-- I don't know. I'm just--I'm terrified of what it'll do to Lily.
Mac: Well, we're gonna do everything we can to make sure that long shot comes in. I had a complete physical today, and I'll schedule the psych evaluation as soon as possible.
Cane: I don't know what to say. You're really gonna do this, aren't you?
Mac: I told you I was. I already spoke to Michael Baldwin about the legal aspects.
Cane: (Chuckles) When did you find time to do all this?
Mac: Well, we need to be as prepared as possible. And... speaking of being prepared, um... there's something that we should talk about, and I hate to even bring it up.
Cane: That's okay. Uh, whatever it is, say it. We have to, you know, be out in the open with this if it's gonna work.
Mac: Have you thought about the possibility that you might have to raise this child on your own?
Cane: Yeah, I've thought about that, but, um, I pray to God it's not gonna happen. (Sighs heavily) If it does, though, I tell you this-- I will love that baby, and I will care for that baby.
Mac: You were wonderful with Delia. You're gonna be a great father.
Cane: Thank you. So, uh, have you talked to Billy about this? What'd he say?
Mac: He's struggling.
Cane: Yeah, well, I don't blame him. I suppose I would feel the same way if I was in his shoes.
Mac: Yeah, well, it's not his decision.
Cane: Well, it does affect his life and your relationship.
Mac: Well, once he gets used to the idea and he sees how much it means to me, he'll come around.
Kay: What gave you the idea we want Cane out of this family?
Billy: Well, because he's not family.
Kay: Well, I'll tell you something, I learned a great deal over this past year, and family isn't always blood. No, don't look at me like that. Listen to me. Technically, I'm no more related to you than I am to Cane. But you'll always be my grandson.
Billy: How do you forgive him?
Kay: How does anyone forgive? My God, you make a decision. I--look, I don't agree with that article you wrote about Victor Newman, right? But I still love you.
Billy: (Chuckles)
Kay: And I'm trying to find a way, and I am finding a way, to love your mother, regardless of what we've been through.
Billy: Okay, yeah, but that's a little different. You and Mom-- you have this rich history.
Kay: Mm-hmm.
Billy: And you will always be my grandma. I don't care what anybody says. But Cane-- he is a different story.
Kay: Not to me, not to your mother.
Billy: Okay, look, you know what? All this guy has done since he got here is lie and take things that aren't his. Delia--listen to me. Delia--he knew that she was not his, and he tried to keep her. You know, he will not be a part of my family. He never will be a part of my family.
Kay: (Chuckles) Oh, Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy.
Paul: Nina.
Nina: Paul, hi.
Paul: Hi.
Nina: Oh.
Paul: How's Chance?
Nina: Oh, he's good. He's getting better.
Paul: Why didn't you call me?
Nina: Oh, I'm sorry. I was going to, but I'm so glad you're here.
Paul: Well, Phillip told me what happened. And he, uh, asked me to come.
Nina: He did?
Paul: Yeah, I guess it's, uh, it's hard for him to be here. He really, um, can't face it.
Nina: (Scoffs) What am I supposed to tell my son? "I'm sorry. Your dad cut and run again"? (Sighs)
Paul: I know. I'm sorry.
Nina: Well, I did a stupid thing.
Paul: You?
Nina: I encouraged Chance to let his guard down around his father. I thought things were gonna be different. When Chance was in surgery, I thought Phillip was gonna step up, but I-I was wrong. He's pulling the same crap again. Fool me once... (Sighs)
Paul: Well, I gotta tell you, um, it's not easy. I speak from experience.
Nina: (Gasps) Parenting's supposed to be easy? (Gasps) I didn't get that memo. No, once again, he's just passing the buck.
[Phillip remembering]
Phillip: "It was rough living in the house all the time, considering how dismal, regular and decent the widow was in all her ways. And so when I couldn't stand it no longer, I lit out. I got into my old rags and my sugar-hogshead again, and was free and satisfied." When you're older, we can rent a houseboat, and we can float down the river together, huh? Wouldn't that be fun, little Phil?
Chloe: Oh.
Phillip: Hi.
Chloe: It's a really small world, isn't it?
Phillip: Yeah.
Chloe: Fancy meeting you here.
Phillip: How's Chance?
Chloe: Um, I don't know. Why don't you, uh, go to the hospital and find out yourself?
Amber: Baby?
Daniel: Amber, no more wedding plans until this thing is settled one way or another.
Amber: That could take years.
Daniel: Yeah, exactly. I could wind up back in prison. I'm not gonna do that to you.
Amber: You don't trust me.
Daniel: (Sighs)
Amber: You don't trust my love for you. Don't you understand? Even if the worst happened, I would come and visit you every single day.
Daniel: Amber, I'm doing this for you.
Amber: And I don't get a say? You are being so unbelievably selfish.
Daniel: You gotta be kidding me right now. Are you--are you listening to yourself? 'Cause this is the exact same thing you did with Deacon. I mean, you went off and you-- and you made up whatever decision you thought would be best for me without even asking me about it. You were ready to marry that guy, you know? Marry him and waste your own future!
Amber: To keep you out of prison. How is that the same thing?
Daniel: But do you want to be tied to someone--do you want to be tied to someone that you can't even be with? You'll have no family. You'll have no kids.
Amber: I don't want to be with anyone but you. You are it for me!
Daniel: I'm not gonna let you waste your life, all right? I'm--you're--no, I'm not marrying you if there's a chance that I could go to jail.
Amber: You want to be alone? Is that what you want? You want to be alone? Fine! You have it! You're alone!
(Door slams)
(Objects clatter on floor)
Daniel: (Sighs)
Chloe: Oh. "Breakfast at Tiffany's." It's actually for Chance.
Phillip: (Laughs) Ri-- for Chance, really?
Chloe: Yeah, I, um, it was my favorite book when I was about 12 years old. It changed my life. Holly Golightly-- she never felt like she belonged anywhere, but she always had that joie de vivre, and I wanted to be just like her.
Phillip: Ahh, so did I.
Chloe: Yeah? (Laughs)
Phillip: (Laughs) Yeah.
Chloe: Well, I got it for Chance because I thought that it would give a little insight into who I am.
Phillip: That's weird. I'm--I'm buying Chance a book, too.
Chloe: Really? What are you getting him? What's this? Oh, the "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
Phillip: Uh, one of my favorite memories is reading to him when he was a kid.
Chloe: Wasn't he a little young for that?
Phillip: It didn't matter what I was reading. The important part was the connection. And now I just feel like we've got such a distance here. (Inhales deeply) And I looked at this, and I thought, you know, this is our past. This, you know, may help us reconnect.
Chloe: Yeah. Well, it couldn't hurt.
Phillip: Yeah. I want to inscribe it. I-I don't know what to say.
Chloe: Well, an inscription isn't half as important as being there for him at the hospital. You know, I don't think that Chance needs a book. I think that he needs his father-- in person, in the flesh. But here I am giving you a lecture, and that's what I should be doing. So, uh, maybe I'll see you.
Paul: You know, I don't know if you can see that...
Chance: Oh.
Paul: But that's broken bottle. That was an angry boyfriend. The girl was underage. Her father hired me to find her. Now this one over here, this is--hold your stomach, folks.
Nina: Aah. Gee.
Paul: Okay.
Chance: (Groans)
Paul: Corporate espionage. A woman tried to run me over with her car, caught the edge of the dumpster right there-- 29 stitches. And I think the running total's about--what, 173? Yeah.
Chance: Whoa, that's some-- yeah, see, Mom? This is something to look forward to.
Nina: Would you stop encouraging him, please?
Chance: Oh, by the way, please, help yourself to some chocolates.
Paul: What, the chief send those over?
Chance: Yeah. How did you know?
Paul: Well, it's an old G.C.P.D. tradition. I think it started back when my, uh, father was on the force. In fact, when I was a kid, I used to hope that he'd get sent to the hospital so he'd come home with a box of chocolates.
Chance: That's terrible.
Nina: (Laughs)
Chance: That's horrible.
Nina: I bet Mary loved that.
Chance: Uh, wait, who--who's Mary?
Paul: Oh, Mary is my mother.
Chance: Your mom. Well, did she worry about you as much as this one over here does?
Nina: (Scoffs)
Paul: (Laughs) Nina pales in comparison. My mother is a world-class worrier. Nobody worries better than Mary.
Chance: (Laughs)
Nina: (Laughs)
Chance: (Groans)
Paul: Ooh.
Nina: Oh. Aah.
Paul: Sorry.
Chance: No, it's okay. It's okay.
Nina: Oh, I'm sorry.
Chance: (Sighs) Whew.
Nina: Well, I guess Phillip knew what he was doing.
Chance: Wait, what does that mean?
Paul: Your father asked me to stop by and see how you were doing.
Chance: Isn't he coming back?
Nina: (Sighs) I-I wish I knew.
Daniel: Oh, what did I do now? (Scoffs) (Sighs)
(Cell phone rings) (Ring) (Ring) (Ring)
Daniel: (Sighs) Perfect.
Kay: Oh, Daniel, what a pleasant surprise. Darling, come in. Come in.
Daniel: Thank you. (Sighs) Whew. Um, have you seen Amber by any chance?
Kay: Uh, no.
Daniel: We kind of got in a little fight.
Kay: Oh, nothing serious?
Daniel: I don't think so. I just, you know, wish things could be a little easier for the two of us sometimes.
Kay: (Chuckles) Well, you know, there's an old saying-- "Sometimes, the smoothest way is full of stones."
Daniel: Well, a few less boulders would be nice.
Kay: (Laughs) I'll let her know if I see her.
Daniel: Thank you. (Sighs) I gotta go find her. She's wandering around in the cold out there.
Kay: (Chuckles)
Amber: Oh. (Groans) Stupid-- aah! (Groans)
Daniel: Hey, you all right? You need a hand?
Amber: (Sighs) Just what I was looking for-- my very own hero.
Daniel: Mm, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What are we doing?
Amber: I-I don't know.
Daniel: I thought you were gonna sing a song.
Amber: I thought you were gonna sing.
Daniel: This is a really bad idea.
Amber: Yeah, I know. Mm. Mm. Mm.
Amber: Oh, I love it.
Amber: It says, "Girlfriend."
Daniel: Yep. Yeah, it does. Hang on for a second. Just pay attention closely, okay? I'll say it once, 'cause you seem to be so freaked out by it. But you're my best friend, you know? We live together. We work together. We play together. Um, we enjoy each other. And... I don't think there's anyone in the world that I would rather do all those things with, and if that's not love, then I don't know what is. So... yes, I love you, too.
Daniel: Tell me what you think.
Amber: (Gasps) (Sobs)
Mac: Hi.
Cane: Hey.
Mac: I know you're not here for the generous pour. I thought you went home to rest.
Cane: I brought you something.
Mac: (Chuckles) It's a kangaroo.
Cane: Yeah, they, uh, they carry their little ones in a pouch. It's, uh, it's kind of what you're doing for Lily and I, so, um, you know, if it doesn't work out, I just-- it's my way of saying thank you. We appreciate this. Thank you.
Mac: Thank you.
Cane: You're welcome. Thank you. (Sighs)
Mac: I wish you could see this from my perspective, Billy.
Billy: You want to be a surrogate for Cane after everything he's done to my family? Oh, you know--you know what I feel about this guy. It's a slap in my face.
Cane: It's not about you, Billy.
Billy: Then why, out of all the women you could've chosen to be your surrogate, you chose her?
Mac: He didn't ask me. I offered.
Cane: Katherine and Jill have forgiven me, all right? I know we're not related by blood, but they treat me like family.
Billy: You are not my family, okay? Get that through your thick skull. You're not my family. Damn it, this is not gonna happen. My girlfriend is not gonna have your kid.
Daniel: There's not a chance that I'm gonna marry you, not if I could spend the next 20 years or more in jail, all right? End of the discussion. So here you are.
Amber: (Sighs) I left my keys. (Sighs)
Daniel: Yeah. I know. I've been looking everywhere for you.
Amber: You have? (Shivering)
Daniel: You're shivering.
Amber: I left my jacket, too.
Daniel: (Sighs)
Amber: (Sighs)
Chloe: Okay, well, I know you're not gonna believe this, but I agree with Nina. A scar is not a badge of honor.
Chance: Oh, please.
Chloe: (Chuckles)
Phillip: Hey, can I come in?
Chance: You're back.
Phillip: Yeah, uh, sorry I took off like that.
Chance: I thought you were gone for good.
Paul: You know what? It's getting kind of crowded in here. I'm gonna head on outside.
Chance: Thanks, Paul.
Nina: Bye, Paul.
Phillip: I went to a bookstore, and I bought you this.
Chance: "Huck Finn"?
Phillip: Yeah, you probably don't remember this, but when I--when you were a little baby, I would read it to you.
Chance: Yeah, I have a-- an old copy of it somewhere in a box. Mom said it was yours.
Phillip: Oh, so you already read it then.
Chance: Well, it's been a while since I read it. I'd like to read it again.
Jill: Oh, Paul. Have you found out anything about Katherine's daughter?
Paul: Well, I followed up on a few leads. And then I heard about Chance, so I came right over.
Jill: Oh, my God. Thank God he's gonna be all right. (Sighs) You know, all that's made me aware of my own mortality and Katherine's and-- and that's why I want to act now, 'cause we don't have forever.
Paul: Well, unfortunately, Jill, this might take some time. The woman who put Katherine's daughter up for adoption--
Jill: Charlotte Ramsey.
Paul: She has disappeared off the face of the earth. I mean, signs have been erased. Records are missing.
Jill: Well, how is that possible?
Paul: I think she doesn't want to be found. Something tells me there is more--
Kay: Oh, well, you two again?
Jill: (Sighs)
Kay: Talking over old times, right?
Jill: No, actually, we were just talking about Chance.
Kay: Now what really is going on?
Chance: "To Chance, a remarkable young man. What a father should do for his son, you've done for me. Thank you for teaching me it's never too late to grow up."
Chance: You, um, you forgot to sign it.
Phillip: I didn't know what to sign. I thought "Phillip" would be kind of odd, and I don't have the right to say "Dad."
Chance: You could sign it "Dad." That's fine with me.
Phillip: Yeah?
Chance: Yeah.
Jill: Lower your antenna. Nothing's going on.
Kay: Well, something is up, and I want to know what it is, please.
Paul: She, um, always this suspicious?
Jill: (Chuckles) Can't two old friends talk to one another without there being a conspiracy?
Kay: Jill, I know a guilty look when I see one. Now will you please stop fooling? Because I will not give up-- (Lowers voice) I will not give up until I find out what it's about.
Jill: Boy, you could always read me like a book, couldn't you? There's no use pretending with her. She's gonna find out sooner or later. (Sighs)
Paul: Really? 'Cause I-I would feel a lot better if I didn't have to keep things--
Jill: Yeah, there's no point to it, you know? 'Cause she's too smart. Yes, we were hiding something from you. No, no, no, no. We didn't want to go public with this, so promise me that you'll keep it a secret, okay? But Paul and I have been seeing each other. (Chuckles) Mm. (Chuckles)
Chance: "We had the sky up there all speckled with stars. We used to lay on our backs and look up at them and discuss about whether they was made or only just happened." Where is it?
Chloe: Where is what?
Chance: What do you mean, "Where is what?" What it was you were gonna be bringing back here to explain who you are.
Chloe: Oh, yeah. I-I couldn't find it. You know, it doesn't matter. What matters is that I realized something about myself.
Chance: Hmm?
Chloe: That when I get close to someone, I want to run away, kind of like your dad, which is kind of strange, because I'm never the runner. I'm always the "Runee."
Chance: Why don't we continue to do things as we have been? The old-fashioned way-- talking with each other and just get to know each other better.
Chloe: Like face-to-face without a computer in front of us?
Chance: That's right, yeah.
Chloe: Okay.
Cane: I am sorry, all right? I didn't mean to get between the two of you.
Mac: I volunteered.
Billy: Oh, that is the problem, isn't it? You volunteered. Well, Mac, you're gonna have to make a choice. Do you want to be with me, or do you want to be their surrogate?
Mac: You do not want to ask me to make that choice.
Daniel: You know, I just wanted everything to be perfect for you.
Amber: It doesn't have to be.
Daniel: It seems like something's always getting in our way.
Amber: That's life. You know, life is messy. (Sighs) If we had to wait for the perfect moment, we would never get married.
Daniel: I know you wanted a big wedding.
Amber: I don't care about that. I just want to be with you.
Daniel: I feel the same way. You know, nothing else matters to me. Amber, I don't want to wait.
Amber: (Sighs)
Daniel: (Sighs)
Amber: (Sighs) (Chuckles)
Daniel: I don't want to live another day without you, okay? Marry me right here, right now.
Amber: Tonight?
Daniel: (Chuckles) Why not? What are we waiting for?
Amber: I don't know.
Daniel: I don't know, either.
Amber: (Laughs) I don't know. (Laughs)
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Patty: If Jack ever tried to leave me for someone else, I'd hurt him again.
Lily: Did Mac say something to you?
Cane: It's Billy. He's trying to talk her out of it.
Deacon: Your son's wedding-- I heard it was happening right now on his rooftop.
