Jack: Okay.

Traci: That is just about everything.

Ashley: Well, I guess that's it.

Jack: (Sighs) You know what? I think our little brother did a pretty good job of putting all that together.

Ashley: He really did. It was the perfect memorial for Colleen.

Traci: Yeah, and they were so close. I know this was really hard on him.

Jack: Yeah, I'm glad we sent him home with Mackenzie.

Ashley: Yeah, I'd better go, too. I'm kind of anxious to get back to the baby. Yeah—

(Cell phone rings)

Ashley: Oh. Excuse me. Oh, it's the hospital. Ashley Abbott. Really? Okay, that's wonderful. I'll be there shortly. That was, uh, Faith's pediatrician. They're releasing her today.

Traci: So soon?

Ashley: Yes. Yeah.

Jack: Really?

Ashley: She's doing great, which means I can bring her home whenever I want.

Traci: Mm.

Ashley: (Giggles)

Sharon: Nick, what are you doing here?

Nick: I thought we agreed to scatter the ashes and say good-bye together.

Sharon: I-I know. I mean, we--

Nick: Faith was my baby, too. How could you want to do this without me?

Patty: (Humming)

Paul: Hey, there.

Patty: (Gasps) Paul!

Paul: (Laughs)

Patty: Paul! (Laughs) No one told me you were coming. Mr. Keane, this is Paul. This is my brother Paul. (Laughs)

Paul: Yeah, w-we met outside.

Patty: (Sighs)

Paul: So how are you doing, kiddo?

Patty: Well, I'm not good. I've been lonely.

Paul: Yeah, I know. But now that you've been transferred to a facility close by, we'll be able to see each other on a regular basis.

Patty: Can I come home? I promise I'll be a good girl.

Paul: No, you can't. I'm sorry.

Patty: Well, why? Why can't I? (Chuckles)

Paul: Because after what happened to Colleen-- her service was today.

Patty: Well, who's Colleen? Hmm?

Paul: Um, that's Traci's daughter.

Patty: (Gasps) Traci had a baby? (Gasps) Oh, my God! That--that makes me an aunt. D-do you have a picture?

(Gasps)

Paul: No.

Patty: (Giggles) I bet Mr. Abbott is really excited. His first grandchild. I always thought it would be me and Jack, though. But, mm, Jack and I haven't been married that long. Huh. It'll happen to us someday. It will.

(Chuckles)

Paul: Um, I'll be right back, okay?

Patty: Mm.

Paul: (Clears throat) Is this for real?

Dr. Keane: Well, as I explained to you when you phoned, your sister's had a complete psychotic break.

Paul: So Patty thinks it's, um... oh, dear God. Um, she and Jack were married in the early 1980s. So how long is this gonna last?

Dr. Keane: I'm afraid it is what it is, Mr. Williams.

Paul: So you're telling me that-- that she may never come back?

Adam: Right. We have a verbal agreement, but we have to send the revised contract overnighted to Tokyo. No, we gave them an extra .5%, and we increased the co-op budget in exchange for some product placement with human--

Victoria: What the hell are you doing?

Adam: Mitch, can you just hold on one second, please? The V.P. of purchasing from Mitsukoshi called. They were gonna drop the entire Newman cosmetic line from all their stores, so it was either jump in and save things, or just let it all just fall apart.

Victoria: Hang up the phone, Adam.

Dr. Swift: You can come in now.

Nikki: How is he?

Nikki: Are you okay?

Victor: I'm fine.

Nikki: You gave me quite a scare. What happened?

Dr. Swift: The immunosuppressant that Victor is on can sometimes cause seizures.

Nikki: Then that doesn't mean his body's rejecting the heart?

Dr. Swift: If he's careful with his medication, this should be a onetime incident.

(Pager beeps)

Dr. Swift: Oh, I've-- I've gotta take this.

Nikki: Oh, of course. Go ahead. Thank you, Doctor. You need anything? You want some water?

Victor: I'd like to see the baby.

Jack: Well, the car seat's in there good and tight.

Ashley: Thank you, Jackie.

Traci: Are you sure you have everything you need? I mean, it's been a long time since you've had a newborn.

Ashley: (Chuckles) It has been a long time.

Traci: (Chuckles)

Ashley: Um, there is one thing I need. I need a godmother for my baby, unless this isn't the best day to be asking you. Do you want a little time to think about it?

Traci: No. No, no, no. I would love to.

(Laughs)

Ashley: You would?

Traci: Yes, I'm honored you asked me.

Ashley: Oh, I'm so happy. Oh, good.

Traci: (Laughs) (Sniffles) Okay. I'm gonna go upstairs and start going through Colleen's things.

Ashley: Okay.

Jack: Listen, I could, uh, go to the hospital with you to pick up Faith.

Ashley: Jackie, you know, at any other time I'd say yes, but since Steve hasn't gotten back from the chair rental--

Jack: We don't want to leave Trace alone, yeah.

Ashley: Yeah.

Jack: Enough said.

Ashley: Okay. I'll talk to you later.

Jack: Before you go, I can't help but ask, where do things stand with you and "The mustache"?

Ashley: What are you asking me, Jack?

Jack: When Victoria read his letter in the service, I was watching you. You had this "All is forgiven" look on your face, or was I mistaken?

Ashley: The man that I have loved most of my adult life is not the man that I married.

Jack: Hallelujah. She has seen the light.

Ashley: Forgive me if I don't exactly feel like celebrating.

Jack: So you'll bring Faith home-- I mean, to our home-- to your home?

Ashley: I'm--

Jack: That's where you and the kids belong.

Ashley: I don't know, Jack. I'm--I'm not sure what I'm--

Jack: Okay, just listen. I--

Ashley: Don't push me, okay? I'll do what's best for us. I'll talk to you.

Nick: Don't you know how much this baby meant to me?

Sharon: I know how much you wanted her, Nick.

Nick: Yet here you are, about to deprive me of the only tangible evidence that she ever existed on this earth. We named our daughter. We talked about our dreams that we had for her. Sharon, I am so sorry that I wasn't there for you and Faith when you needed me. And if you don't think I deserve to be here--

Sharon: No, no. That's--that's not it. I--Nick, I'm not trying to punish you. I was just trying to spare you. Hon--honestly, I-I thought that I was doing the right thing for both of us, but clearly, I was wrong.

Nick: Are those Faith's ashes?

Victor: She's beautiful.

Nikki: Isn't she?

Victor: That's beautiful.

Nikki: She reminds me so much of Nicholas when he was born.

Victor: She's so sweet.

Ashley: What are you doing?

Nikki: Hi, Ashley. Victor wanted to see the baby.

Ashley: Give her to me. Please.

Nikki: (Scoffs)

Victor: The baby is fine. Why are you so upset?

Ashley: How can you ask me that after what I've been through? Do you have any idea what it was like for me to walk into the nursery and find her gone?

Nikki: Um, I'm gonna leave now, and I hope that you can remember where you are and that Victor is recovering from major heart surgery. And by the way, that child is his daughter...

Ashley: Thank you, Nikki.

Nikki: As well.

Ashley: This is between Victor and me.

Victor: I didn't mean to upset you.

Faith: (Fusses)

Ashley: Well, I am upset. I'm extremely upset.

Faith: (Fussing)

Ashley: Come here, Sweetie. It's okay. It's okay.

Victoria: I explained on the phone what Adam did.

Adam: So am I allowed to present my side?

Victoria: Oh, sure, now that you've had time to come up with a nice little cover story. Go ahead.

Michael: All right. All right. All right. Let's hear it.

Adam: I had two choices, all right? I was--it was gonna let everything fall apart, or I could try and save it.

Victoria: On whose authority?

Adam: Mr. Kagawa sounded upset. He had been calling for days leaving messages, and no one was returning those calls.

Michael: Leaving messages where?

Adam: Victor's private line at Newman. In a final act of desperation, he leaves a message here, which I pick up, and it sounded like an ultimatum, so--

Michael: You decided to take it upon yourself to...

Adam: Michael, my father is incapacitated. Nick and Victoria were unavailable. No one was minding the store.

Victoria: There damn well was someone minding the store. Nick and I made sure that everything was covered while my father was in the hospital.

Adam: Well, evidently, something slipped through the cracks, didn't it? If Mitsukoshi department stores had pulled the plug on this thing, we could have lost millions, not to mention a loss of goodwill at Newman.

Victoria: You do not work at Newman. You have zero authority. You do not represent the company.

Michael: Okay, I think I have a grasp of the issues at hand.

Victoria: Michael, as my father's personal attorney, I want you to investigate this. I want you to stop any unauthorized deals that Adam's done, and God knows what else he's been up to.

Adam: Damn it, Victoria! (Exhales) I was not up to anything. I was helping you out this one time.

Victoria: Well, let's make sure that this is the last time, shall we?

Adam: (Sighs)

Traci: Lauren...

(Doorbell rings)

Jack: I'll get it.

Traci: This is such a generous contribution. Really, I thank you so much. (Chuckles) I know Colleen would just love the idea that my brother set up this art history scholarship in her name. Will you please tell thank-- tell Michael thank you, also? (Sighs) All right. I will. Bye-bye. (Gasps) Oh! (Chuckles) Thank you for coming.

Paul: Well, I couldn't let the day go by without showing my respects.

Jack: We're sorry you missed the service, Paul.

Paul: I, um, I wanted to be there, Jack. I really did. I-I should have been there. I just, um, felt so horrible about the whole thing. I-- if I'd only stopped Patty when I had the chance, I--

Traci: There is just no way that you could foresee that this would turn out this way.

Paul: I am so sorry.

Traci: Oh. (Voice breaking) Paul, I have always felt that you were a very dear friend, and I know Colleen felt the same way. None of that has changed, okay?

Paul: I just--I just know that, um, Patty never meant to hurt anybody. She really didn't. She--she had no idea what she was doing.

Jack: We appreciate the fact that you love your sister. We can leave it at that.

Paul: I, um... (Clears throat) I just came from seeing her, and, uh, Patty's memory--the whole-- the whole last 25 years is completely blank. The doctor, uh, thinks that maybe this is it, that she may never recover. The--the psychosis is so severe.

Traci: You must be heartbroken.

Paul: I don't--I don't really know what to feel, Traci.

Traci: Mm-hmm.

Paul: I, uh, I--

Jack: You do know this is an act, right?

Traci: Jack!

Paul: I'm sorry?

Jack: This woman allows herself to be completely re-created cosmetically. She comes to town with an agenda, which she executes brilliantly, playing a role. She lies to all of us for months on end.

Paul: What are you insinuating?

Jack: Don't be fooled. She is building an insanity defense.

Traci: (Sighs)

Sharon: Cassie loved this time of year. Cassie, Sweetheart, I know you can hear me. Look after your little sister for us, okay? Maybe one day, we'll all be together again as a family.

Nick: Are you okay to do this now?

Adam: Your reaction just proves how out of touch you are.

Victoria: About what?

Adam: The press only knows about Victor being shot. They don't know anything about the transplant. But the business papers are filled with rumors and everyone's speculating about Dad's health. Newman Cosmetics could not afford to alienate its largest Asian distributor.

Michael: I, uh, had the contract faxed over reflecting Adam's changes.

Victoria: So what does it say?

Michael: Take a look.

Paul: Hey, Nikk.

Nikki: Hey.

Paul: Hi. How's Victor?

Nikki: Um, better. (Sighs) At least for now, the transplant's working.

Paul: Oh. Well, that's good news.

Nikki: Ashley's in there with him.

Paul: Oh. Um... why don't we get out of here? Take a break? Something tells me it might just do you some good.

Victor: I just wanted to see our baby. There's nothing to be worried about. Why would you think there would be? You know I love my children more than anything.

Ashley: If I overreacted, I apologize. And you're right. You have been... (Sighs) You have been good to your children... I mean, most of them, anyway.

Victor: What does that mean?

Ashley: (Sighs) I just find it very disturbing the way you treat Adam. He's your son, too.

Victor: Have you forgotten that he attempted to frame me for murder?

Ashley: No, of course not, and I would never minimize what he's done, ever. But he served his time, and he has paid his dues. He's been such an incredible friend to me-- so loyal, so supportive, always there. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have our daughter.

Victor: Well, so what do you want me to do?

Ashley: You acknowledged in that very moving letter today that Colleen's heart's given you a second chance. Why don't you honor that and do the same thing for Adam? Give him a second chance, too.

Victor: (Sighs) How was Colleen's funeral? Was Abby okay?

Ashley: No, she wasn't okay! She's devastated. We are all devastated.

Victor: (Sighs)

Ashley: We're gonna get through it somehow.

Victor: I wish I weren't in this damn hospital. I would do something to help you.

Ashley: You love that, don't you? Rescuing damsels in distress.

Victor: What is wrong with that?

Ashley: Nothing, I guess. It's a funny thing. That young woman you rescued years ago-- she's finally grown up. I realized that the man I spent most of my adult life loving, he isn't a hero after all. He never was. It was just a lie, an illusion.

Victor: How often do I have to tell you for you to believe that I love you? I always have.

Ashley: I guess on some level, I do believe that. There's always been one person you've loved more than me.

Victor: You're talking about Nikki?

Ashley: No, not Nikki. You. You've loved yourself more than anyone. You do these horrible things, and you claim to do them for the people you love, but really, it was just for yourself-- always, always, always for yourself.

Victor: (Sighs)

Ashley: Our marriage is over, Victor. I'm filing for divorce.

Nikki: Yes, Sir.

Paul: That's an order. Now when was the last time you actually left that place?

Nikki: (Sighs) I don't know. Is it October yet?

Paul: (Chuckles) You know, you can't keep going on like this. You gotta take care of yourself, or you're gonna wind up in the hospital as a patient, not a visitor.

Nikki: The sandwich is good. Thanks for looking out for me.

Paul: (Chuckles) (Sighs) You dropped everything. You put your life on hold once again. You're practically living at Victor's bedside, where as Ashley, the man's--

Nikki: Has just had a baby and buried a close family member today.

Paul: You're way too understanding for your own good.

Nikki: Well, everything has fallen on the kids' shoulders, and they have their own families to worry about. They're gonna need a lot of help getting their father through recovery.

Paul: I'm sure that's part of it.

Nikki: Thank you for letting me know that my family needed me. (Sighs) But, you know, it still puzzles me. Those letters that I sent letting everybody know where I was and that I was okay-- what on earth could have happened to them?

Adam: (Sighs)

Michael: Well?

Victoria: The deal looks okay.

Adam: Are you really that stunned?

Victoria: This doesn't change anything, Adam, after your accomplishments this past year.

Michael: None of which engendered a great deal of trust. If the Newmans are wary of you, you can't blame them.

Victoria: You know, it's funny that you really expect me to believe that you just happened to hear that phone call.

Adam: I live here. I check the voice mail.

Michael: You've taken advantage of situations before, Adam.

Adam: Listen, if you don't believe me, why don't you go check the voice mail yourself? I called him back and negotiated through some sticking points, and here we are.

Victoria: So then you conned Mr. Kagawa, just like you've conned everybody else.

Adam: Victoria, do you want to forget about how you feel about me personally for one second? Now listen to me. I know what I am doing. I graduated second in my class at Harvard business school. I was a success on Wall Street long before I had any inkling that I was a Newman. And I was not some yahoo that Victor plucked off the farm. Meanwhile, Nick has a B.A. from the local university, and you haven't attended a single college class. I have more experience, big-league experience, and credentials than the two of you combined. And I used that today to save a huge chunk of your global business. The least you can do is muster up a thank-you.

Victor: It wouldn't have been my choice to part ways without trying to work things out.

Ashley: There's no chance of that happening. After I heard about Patty, I knew that.

Victor: I understand.

Ashley: So then you won't fight the divorce?

Victor: No, as long as you guarantee that I will always be part of our daughters' lives.

Ashley: I would never cut you off from your children. I would never deprive them of their father. They're the most precious gifts that anybody's ever given me, Victor. I thank God for them every day. A part of me is always gonna love you. Abby and Faith-- they're a bond that we're always gonna share. Good-bye. Thank you.

Victor: My beautiful Ashley. Good-bye.

Paul: Can I get you anything else?

Nikki: No, thank you. I'm quite content. So you haven't told me how you're doing.

Paul: (Scoffs) (Groans) It hasn't been the best of days. I went to see Patty.

Nikki: How was that?

Paul: (Sighs) Pretty frightening, actually. Her--her memory's gone. She, uh, for some reason, has gone back to a time when she could handle things.

Nikki: Oh, my God. I'm so sorry.

Paul: You know, she trusted me, and I knew she had problems. And I was so worried about protecting her, I gave her a chance to escape. Now how long have I been dealing with dangerous criminals? I never should have trusted her. And Colleen is dead now because--

Nikki: No, stop that, Paul. It is not your fault. Whatever Patty did, you're not responsible for it. I mean, it was horrific, but your sister has a mental illness. Nobody is to blame, including you.

Patty: Jack! You're here. Oh! Oh, I knew you'd come. I've missed you so, so much.

(Sighs)

Jack: You remember me.

Patty: Of course I remember you, silly. How could you say such a ridiculous thing?

(Giggles)

Sharon: I really like the-- the spot that you picked for her. It was-- it was really lovely by the stream, and that water was so clear.

Nick: I liked how peaceful it was. Maybe it's like that where Faith is now.

Sharon: I want that for her.

Nick: It feels like we did it right this time.

Sharon: It does. Now I can move on.

Victoria: I spent the past year trying to undo the damage that you did to the company when you were in control. Would you like me to thank you for that, too, Adam?

Adam: You know, you just cannot be objective when it comes to me. I don't know why I thought today would be any different than any other.

Victoria: Did it ever occur to you to call Nick or me and let us know that there was a problem brewing? No, no, no. You just jumped right in to try to save the deal.

Adam: No good deed goes unpunished.

Michael: No matter what your motive was, Adam, it obviously backfired with your sister. On the other hand, Victoria, you yourself admitted that that contract was viable. It would be no trick for you to jump back in, establish lines of communications with the people in Tokyo while your father's out of commission--

Victoria: All's well that ends well? Michael, I don't think so, no-- not while there's still a shark circling in the water.

Adam: Ungrateful, inflexible and insulting. Come on. You're on a roll. Keep it up.

Victoria: Your sentence is up, isn't it? So you're free to leave. If I were you, I would try to have a shred of pride and decency, and I would get out of this house before I find a way to throw you out.

Michael: That would be Victor's call.

Adam: (Snaps fingers) Curses. Foiled again.

Victoria: You know, Adam, maybe you think you've gotten away with something, but all you've really done is tip us off. We're gonna be watching you now.

Adam: Mm.

Victoria: So don't ever pull this crap again.

Adam: (Sighs)

Adam: (Sighs)

Ashley: Hey, Adam. I brought your sister home.

Nikki: Thanks a lot, Paul. The change of scenery did me good.

Paul: Well, you, um, take care of yourself, especially your heart.

Nikki: (Sighs) My heart?

Paul: Your, um, friend in there has a history of breaking it.

Victor: Hey, Paul. Come in here.

Paul: You made it.

Victor: So far. I understand you're responsible for finding Nikki and bringing her back to us. I and the children want to thank you.

Paul: I did it for Nikki.

Victor: I understand.

Paul: I went to see my sister today. She's in a padded cell in a hospital for the criminally insane. I don't think they cater to the patients there like they do here.

Victor: How is she doing?

Paul: She's completely lost her mind, and the doctor doesn't think she's going to recover. The silver lining? She's forgotten you ever existed.

Jack: Okay, so lay it on me.

Patty: Excuse me?

Jack: Your sad tale of woe, how you didn't do anything wrong, how this is everybody else's fault, how you don't deserve to be in a place like this.

Patty: Oh. Honey, you know I don't like to criticize, but truthfully, now that you mention it, this is not what I thought our honeymoon would be like.

Jack: Honeymoon?

Patty: You know, it's a bit drab, and--and-- and there's no windows. I just--I wanted to be someplace warm and sunny and where I could wear that teeny-tiny bikini bathing suit you liked so much. You remember the one. (Gasps) Wait a minute. This is one of your silly jokes, isn't it? (Laughs) Oh, of course it is. (Gasps) You're teasing me. A-a-and y-you--you made me wait for you here, and any second now, you're gonna break into that gorgeous smile that all the girls go crazy for. Hmm? Aw, sugar. Come on. (Laughs) You know I'm teasing. Oh, God, I just get all melty inside when you call me that.

(Sighs)

Jack: I'll try to remember that.

Patty: (Sighs) A dance now!

Jack: Can I get a double scotch, neat, no ice?

(Sighs)

Victoria: I thought you'd be at Colleen's service.

Nick: (Sighs) I was with Sharon. We were scattering the baby's ashes.

Victoria: Oh. I didn't realize that you two were planning on doing that.

Nick: Yeah, I didn't know we were doing it today, either. Sharon wanted to get it out of the way.

Victoria: How are you feeling?

Nick: A little rocky.

Victoria: You know, after I lost Eve, I felt the same way. For a while there, I felt like I was walking around with a big hole in my heart.

Nick: I keep thinking about the baby that Sharon and I lost eight years ago.

Victoria: Has it been that long?

Nick: You know, you're looking forward to it so much-- meeting this new little life that's a big part of you. Then it's ripped away out of nowhere.

Victoria: I know. It's unfair.

Nick: (Sighs) All right. (Sighs) All right, why are you here?

Victoria: Oh, forget it. It can wait.

Nick: No, I'm fine. What's up?

Victoria: (Sighs) Its Adam.

Nick: (Groans)

Victoria: Are you happy you asked?

(Sighs)

Nick: (Sighs) What'd the weasel do now?

Victoria: You are going to love this. (Sighs) So I walk into Dad's living room, and I catch him on the phone with the chief buyer of Mitsukoshi department stores finalizing a deal for Beauty of Nature.

(Sighs)

Nick: You have got to be kidding me.

Victoria: I got Michael on it right away.

Nick: What'd he say?

Victoria: Well, he said that the contract might be usable, but that's not the point. (Scoffs) I called it. Adam is trying to weasel his way back into the family business.

Ashley: Oh, I just love that little girl so much. Faith is sound asleep in her crib.

Adam: What a nice surprise. I never thought the two of you would be back here.

Ashley: Well, there's been so much turmoil in Abby's life, I wanted to keep things as stable as possible. Besides, I am still Victor's wife, if only for a little while longer.

Adam: What, uh, what do you mean?

Ashley: Well, I told your father that I'm filing for divorce.

Adam: Wow. So, um, your--your stay here is just temporary, uh, waiting for Victor to just get out of the hospital?

Ashley: Unh-unh. The girls and I are staying. When Victor's feeling better, I am going to claim the ranch as our permanent home. You want to stay, too? Why not? You've been such a good friend, and you are gonna be the baby's godfather.

Adam: I, um, I don't know what to say.

Ashley: Why don't you just say okay?

Adam: There are, uh, some people who think I've overstayed my welcome. I don't know. Maybe I should think about moving on to someplace else.

Ashley: Well, you don't have to decide right now, but hang in there. I did put a good word in for you with Victor. Things might turn around.

Adam: (Chuckles)

Nikki: (Sighs) I hope Paul didn't upset you.

Victor: (Exhales slowly) He's worried about his sister.

Nikki: How did things go with Ashley? I hope she's not gonna make it difficult for you to see the baby.

Victor: She promised that she would always let me be a part of our daughters' lives. But our marriage is over. She and I are getting a divorce.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Sharon: Victor, Patty, just let it all go.

Nick: I don't want to shut you out. If you want to hear about scattering the ashes, I'll--I'll tell you.

Billy: And that's stalker bizarre for sure right there.
