Abby: Taking Colleen off life support? Are you sure?

Traci: No, Honey, I'm not sure. I will never know if I--

Steve: Sweetheart, you said it yourself. That's not Colleen lying there.

Traci: I know. I know. My baby's gone. It's just that there were so many things that I never got a chance to say.

(Door opens)

Dr. Snyder: You wanted to see me?

Traci: (Sighs)

Steve: (Sighs)

Traci: Doctor, um, after a lot of soul-searching, I've decided that it's not fair to my daughter to keep her alive by artificial means.

Dr. Snyder: I believe you're doing the right thing, Mrs. Connolly.

Billy: So what happens now?

Dr. Snyder: I imagine you'll want to call relatives, friends, perhaps consult with clergy. The hospital does offer grief counseling if that's something that you would be interested in. And please, take as long as you need to say good-bye.

Traci: (Sobs) How can I say good-bye to my only child?

(Sobs)

(Sniffles)

Jana: Look, there is only one right thing to do, and that is to return the Terroni to the museum.

Daniel: So you want Amber to have to marry that jerk Deacon?

Jana: Come on. You know I don't. But keeping the painting would be illegal.

Gloria: Oh, like none of you have ever done anything illegal.

Amber: Okay, technically, we aren't keeping it. We are handing it over to Deacon in exchange for my freedom.

Gloria: No, I'm handing it over to Deacon in exchange for cold hard cash.

Jana: Okay, look. If it will make you feel any better, Kevin and I will give you our share of the reward, okay?

Kevin: No, no. That money is for Ryder's defense.

Jana: Well, I thought you were through with him.

Kevin: Yeah, but I made him a promise I would get him out of jail. I can't renege on that.

Jana: (Sighs) Okay, fine. I will give you my part.

Gloria: Tell me why I should take your measly slice of $25,000 when Mr. Deacon could sell the painting for $5 million, and I get $2 1/2 million all for me?

Amber: Deacon's playing you, Gloria. That Terroni is worth a hell of a lot more than $5 million.

Gloria: I know that, Amber. But he can't sell it for what it's worth on the black market.

Amber: Maybe not, but he plans on making a lot more money than he's telling you. Deacon told me that once he sells that painting, he will be rich-rich, like superrich. Like-- like living on the Riviera rich. Like flying around the world in private jets rich.

Gloria: What a little weasel.

Daniel: Told you that he couldn't be trusted.

Gloria: Oh, like I can trust you? You told me that I would have a big chunk of money if I played dear little granny at the bank.

Daniel: Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I was trying to save my girlfriend.

Gloria: She's not my girlfriend. As a matter of fact, I could have your girlfriend arrested for trying to impersonate me in cheap sunglasses and that hat, and I want it back.

Amber: Can't prove anything.

Gloria: Really? Banks have surveillance cameras, not to mention lots of eyewitnesses.

Kevin: You wouldn't dare. You wouldn't, not if you ever want to see your son again and any future grandchildren that we might have.

Daniel: You know, I don't care what any of your agendas are, all right? My deal with Deacon was I give him that painting, and in exchange, he leaves Amber alone, and he stops threatening to put me back in prison, and that's exactly what's gonna happen.

Nick: (Sighs)

Nick: What's wrong? Is--is it Dad?

Victoria: The doctors put in that pump that they told us about, but... (Sighs) It's only a temporary measure.

J.T.: Your father needs a heart to survive?

Nick: Transplant?

Victoria: Without it, he won't last the week.

Nikki: I know it's overwhelming, but I want you to promise me something.

Victor: What?

Nikki: That you won't give up.

Victor: I have no intention.

Nikki: Good. Because we will find you a heart, if I have to go to Oz and speak to the great wizard himself.

Victor: At least it'll prove those people wrong who didn't think I had a heart.

Daniel: I'm calling Sharpe.

Gloria: No.

Jana: Look, you're playing right into his hands.

Daniel: You know what? If giving him the Terroni is gonna stop all of this stupidity, then it's worth it.

Amber: Mm-hmm.

(Cell phone rings)

Amber: Ooh, is that him?

Daniel: No, it's Cane. What the hell does he want? Lily. Hey, Cane, what's up, man?

Cane: Lily asked me to call you.

Daniel: Well, is she okay?

Cane: She's fine. It's, um...

Daniel: Oh, my God. No. Y-yeah. Yeah. Thank you. I will.

Amber: Lily? Is she--she--?

Daniel: No. No. Um, the doctors just declared Colleen brain-dead.

Jana: Oh, my God.

Daniel: They're taking her off of life support.

Jana: (Sighs)

Kevin: I want to go to the hospital.

Jana: Ye-yeah. Of course. Of course.

Gloria: You know something? John loved his granddaughter so much. And I will always be grateful to her, because she stood up for you when you were having all your problems.

Kevin: I almost killed her.

Jana: (Sighs)

Kevin: And she forgave me.

Gloria: You tell Traci that she and her family are in my prayers.

Jana: (Sighs)

Kevin: Let's go.

Daniel: Hey, I want to go with you guys.

Amber: Me, too.

Gloria: I'll lock up for you.

Daniel: Are you sure?

Amber: Yeah. I mean, she and I weren't really close, but I know how much she meant to you and Kevin, so let's go.

Gloria: (Sighs) This is Gloria Bardwell, and we need to have a little chat.

Billy: Here. Sit down.

Lily: Oh, thank you.

Steve: We'll give you some privacy.

Traci: You were like a sister to her, and I really appreciate you helping me realize that we have to love her enough to let her go.

Lily: (Sighs)

Lily: No. Stay.

Lily: (Sighs) (Sniffles) Hey. (Sighs) Did you forget what the second "F" in "B.F.F." stood for? "Forever." (Sighs) That is how long we were gonna be best friends. What am I gonna do without you, Colleen? Who am I gonna tell my secrets to? And my heartbreaks and my fears? (Sniffles) It has always been you. I thought it would always be you. (Sighs) But you know what? I am not mad at you. I'm not, because I know that if you could stay, you would. (Sighs) I just wish... (Sighs) I wish you peace and a safe journey. But I know this is not the end for us. We will always be connected. We will always be best friends forever. I know I'm gonna see you again, and then we will tell each other everything, just like we always have. But you know what? Until then, I am gonna fight. I am gonna fight, Colleen, just like you told me to, because I am gonna do enough living for both of us. I will.

(Sobs)

(Sighs)

Deacon: Are we celebrating?

Gloria: I am...

Deacon: Oh.

Gloria: Because I found out you have been a very naughty boy.

Deacon: Me?

Gloria: Mm-hmm. We both know that you can sell that Terroni for a lot more than you let on.

Deacon: Do you have it?

Gloria: I know where it is.

Deacon: Where?

Gloria: For a price, Mr. Sharpe.

Deacon: We've already agreed on a price, Mrs. Bardwell.

Gloria: Mnh, mnh, mnh, mnh, mnh, mnh, mnh.

Deacon: (Chuckles)

Gloria: That was before I found out you were lying to me.

Deacon: Look, uh, okay. How much do you want?

Gloria: At least $25 million.

Deacon: (Laughs)

Gloria: (Laughs)

Deacon: Mrs. Bardwell...

Gloria: Unh-unh.

Deacon: You.

Gloria: No, no, no, Deacon. You need me if you want the painting.

Deacon: Well, that may be true, but I have overhead. I have partners.

Gloria: I don't care.

Deacon: $5 million is the best that I'm gonna do. But before you say anything, I want you to just close your eyes, and I want you to think about all the things that you could do with $5 million.

Gloria: (Sighs)

(Chuckles)

Deacon: Yeah?

Gloria: All right, I'll take it.

Deacon: Not so fast. We've gotta get this painting out of the country and to my buyer, or neither one of us is gonna wind up with squat.

Gloria: Daniel Romalotti, Amber, my son and his wife Jana have it. You see, they beat me to the bank.

Deacon: Oh, God, I feel a migraine coming on. Um, do you know where they are right now?

Gloria: G.C. Memorial.

Deacon: Oh.

Gloria: A friend of theirs is very ill.

Deacon: Do you suppose that they happen to have the painting with them?

Gloria: I would assume so.

Deacon: Why don't you put that champagne on my tab and enjoy yourself? Oh, um, love the hat.

Jeff: Having a rendezvous with another man? What are you up to, Sweet Cheeks?

Kevin: Any change?

Billy: Yeah, the family flew in a couple of specialists, and, uh, the doctors all agree that Colleen's brain went without oxygen too long.

Amber: (Sighs) I'm so sorry, Billy.

Billy: Yeah.

Daniel: Can we see her?

Billy: Traci and Steve took Abby to the chapel, and Lily's in there now.

Lily: Don't worry, okay? I will take care of your mom, and mine will take care of you. (Sighs) (Sighs) Hey.

Daniel: Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Daniel: I know the two of you were so close. I remember that when we were together, I was actually almost a little jealous. It seemed like, I don't know, you knew each other's thoughts.

Lily: We practically did.

(Chuckles)

 (Sighs)

Daniel: Baby, I'm so sorry. I-I wish I could hug you.

Cane: She's, um, taking a risk just being here. We should go.

Lily: (Sighs)

Cane: Come on.

Lily: (Sighs)

Lily: I love you. (Sobs) (Sobs)

Cane: Shh. Come on.

Amber: It's heartbreaking.

Daniel: What can I say, huh? You know, when Lily and I were married, I knew that the two of you were a package deal. You were her little sidekick, and no stupid husband was gonna come in between that. And then after we broke up, I mean, you and me, we hooked up for a hot minute, yeah. (Chuckles) I think, at some point, we even turned out to be some kind of weird step-cousins or something. But, you know, you were never scared to call me out when I did something stupid, or to kick my butt when I really needed it. So thank you. (Sighs) I'm gonna miss you, kid.

Dr. Swift: (Sighs) Even though the I.A.B.P., uh, the balloon pump, is doing its job, his heart is functioning on lower level than we'd like.

Victoria: Is that something that will correct itself?

Dr. Swift: I'm afraid not. His condition will continue to deteriorate.

Nick: What are you doing to get him a new one?

Dr. Swift: I have contacted our transplant coordinator about putting him on the list.

Nikki: What do you mean? He's not on it yet?

Dr. Swift: No, it's not automatic. There are certain criteria that he--he needs to meet, and he--

Nick: The man is dying. What more criteria do you need?

Dr. Swift: I assure you, I am doing everything that I can.

Nick: Then do more.

Dr. Swift: I will get back to you as soon as I know something.

Nikki: You hang on, Victor. I promise you, we won't let you down.

Abby: Grandpa, my dad, my sister-- why do I keep losing the people I love?

Billy: I don't know. But you're right. It's not fair.

Abby: I'm so scared.

Billy: Yeah, I'm scared, too.

Abby: What if Victor dies, too?

Billy: Oh, don't worry about that, Honey.

Abby: I'm worried about my mom, Uncle Billy.

Billy: Jack got her out of here. He's watching over her. She's okay.

Abby: My heart hurts so much. I don't know what to do.

Billy: Honey, there's nothing you can do. I'm sorry you have to learn this, but it's a cold fact of life that if you live long enough, people you love are gonna die.

Abby: Maybe the people with nobody to begin with are better off.

Billy: Do you really believe that, huh? Would you give up all the times you spent with CeeCee just because you're hurting now? I wouldn't. I know Traci wouldn't.

Abby: (Sighs) Neither would I. She was the best big sister in the world.

Billy: Yeah? Well, she was neck and neck for best niece.

Abby: (Chuckles)

Kevin: I hope it's all right that we're here.

Steve: (Sighs)

Traci: Yes. Yes, it's all right. Come in. I know that my--my daughter came to consider you a friend.

Kevin: Thank you. (Sighs) The horrible things that I did to her, um, that she was able to forgive me, get past that... (Sighs) Uh, I want you to know that, um, her kindness changed my life, and she's a beautiful person inside and out.

Traci: Would you like some time with her alone?

Kevin: Yeah, we would, if that's all right with you.

Kevin: Oh, man. (Sighs) (Sighs) (Sobs) (Sniffles) I'm so sorry, Colleen. I am so sorry for what I tried to do to you. (Sighs) God, I-I wish I had more time to make it up to you. I was so messed up back then. You had every reason to hate me. But you were all about seeing the kindness in people, you know? And the good in them, even when they couldn't see it themselves. And, uh... (Sighs) And I'm a better man for having known you. I-- I owe you so much.

Jana: We--we both do.

Kevin: (Sighs) I promise you, you'll never regret giving me a second chance.

Amber: You expect people to die after they've lived long, full lives. But Colleen...

Daniel: Yeah, she'd just begun to live.

Amber: That could be any one of us in there. I mean, who leaves the house in the morning and-- and thinks to themselves, this is gonna be the day I'm gonna get hit by a car or I'm gonna fall in a lake and I'm gonna drown?

Daniel: Come here. Come here.

Daniel: (Sighs)

Gloria: That was Deacon Sharpe. He's an art dealer, and I'm helping him with a little project.

Jeff: Ah, because you're such an art expert.

Gloria: I am a woman of many talents.

Jeff: (Laughs) Come on, Cupcake. You can barely color between the lines. (Laughs)

Gloria: (Chuckles sarcastically) It's a chance to make a little money.

Jeff: Well, why didn't you say so?

Gloria: Mm.

Jeff: How much green are we talking?

Gloria: Enough to turn the lights on and pay the rent for a few months.

Jeff: (Sighs) Well, it's better than a sharp stick in the eye...

Gloria: (Chuckles)

Jeff: If you're telling me the truth.

Gloria: I can't believe they call this swill champagne. What do you say we order a bottle of the good stuff and two of the biggest lobsters this side of Maine smothered in caviar?

Jeff: (Stammers)

Gloria: Mr. Deacon Sharpe said to put it on his tab.

Jeff: (Laughs)

Gloria: (Laughs)

Deacon: Daniel, I think you have something that belongs to me.

Kevin: Well, so you came here to the hospital when our friend is dying?

Deacon: Hang on a second. Look, the only reason I'm here is to let Daniel know that the clock is ticking.

Amber: You make me sick.

Jana: How--how did he know that we were--

Kevin: My mother.

Daniel: You know, we're not doing this-- not here, and not now.

Deacon: You have the painting, and I suggest you give it back to me. Otherwise, Ryder is gonna retract his confession. You, my friend, are headed back to jail, and as far as Amber's concerned, well, let your imagination do the work.

Amber: I'd rather slit my own throat.

Daniel: You're really starting to sound like a broken record. You come in here. You know, I knew you were a lowlife, but to come in here while our friend is dying in there, and you march in-- who--who do you think you are?

Dr. Snyder: Excuse me, Sir!

Daniel: Excuse me?

Dr. Snyder: These patients are extremely ill, and you're disturbing them, so either you walk out of here now on your own, or I'm calling security.

Daniel: What...

(Chuckles)

Amber: You know, come on. Come on, Daniel. Let's--we're just gonna go. We'll--we'll come back later.

Kevin: Yeah, it's starting to stink in here anyway. Let's go.

Deacon: Thank you. Well, tick tock, Daniel. Tick tock.

Nikki: There. Are you warm enough?

Victoria: You know, I can ask the nurse for another blanket. Does he need one?

Victor: I'm fine, thank you.

J.T.: I'm gonna step outside and check in with the sitter.

Victoria: Okay, sure.

Victor: Will it take a long time to find a new heart?

Nick: Dad, you let us worry about that, all right? You always found ways to make the impossible happen, and so will we.

Victor: Huh.

Victoria: You'd better believe it, Dad.

Victor: Mm.

Cane: (Sighs)

Lily: I thought I was gonna die, and I kept worrying about how Colleen would cope if something happened to me so soon after she lost Brad. I never, ever thought that I would be the one losing her.

Cane: Well, that's the crazy thing about life. It can just change like that, in the blink of an eye.

Lily: She's my best friend. What am I gonna do without her?

Cane: Look, I know I could never replace her.

Lily: (Sniffles)

Cane: But I want you to know that I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you.

Lily: (Sniffles) You know, I had this dream... (Sniffles) Or at least I think it was a dream--

Cane: What do you mean, "You think"?

Lily: Well, I just... (Sighs) I remember it just felt so real, you know? I-I hugged her, and I could feel how wet her clothes were.

Cane: So what was the dream about?

Lily: She just told me that she had something important to tell me, something that would change my life forever.

Cane: What was it?

Lily: Well, she swore that I was gonna beat the cancer and that one day, I would hold my own baby in my arms.

Cane: Well, if that is the case, then that's what we're gonna believe, okay?

Victoria: How's Reed?

J.T.: (Sighs) Uh, Gabby said he's been crying his little eyes out. Nothing she does seems to help.

Victoria: (Sighs) It's no wonder. He hasn't seen either one of us in days.

J.T.: Yeah, I mean, he loves Gabby, but still...

Victoria: I think you need to go be with him.

J.T.: All right, well, uh, you'll call me if anything changes? I left my keys in Victor's room.

Victoria: (Sighs)

Deacon: Victoria. How's your father doing?

Victoria: How'd you know about--?

Deacon: I-it's-- it's all over the news.

Victoria: Oh, uh, right, yeah.

Deacon: I hope he's-- he's doing well.

Victoria: Thank you.

Deacon: Yeah, the thought of losing a parent, you know, in such a-a violent way, that's gotta be excruciating. I'm sorry.

Victoria: (Clears throat) Mm-hmm, it is.

Deacon: Uh... (Chuckles) Why--why are you looking at me like that?

Victoria: Well, I just didn't expect someone like you to understand.

Deacon: Well, there's-- there's probably a lot about me that you--you don't know.

Nick: (Sighs) I hope he's listening.

Nikki: He is, son. Don't you worry about that. Are you upset with me?

Nick: Upset?

Nikki: I mean, you and your sister were going through so much, and you didn't know how to reach me. I'm so sorry. I didn't know that you hadn't gotten my letters.

Nick: Letters?

Nikki: I sent letters to the ranch for all of you, and they seem to have vanished into thin air.

Nick: Mom, we found you when we needed you most. That's what's important.

Nikki: Thanks to Paul. He told me everything-- how your father transformed Patty Williams into Mary Jane and brought her back to town.

Nick: Yeah, um, I'm still trying to come to terms with that.

Nikki: When I think of all the things that she did to Summer and Ashley... and now Colleen's not gonna make it, and your father's fighting for his life, all because of something he put into motion against Jack.

Nick: I'm sure Dad never meant for things to get so out of control.

Nikki: Yeah, he never does.

Nick: I mean, he had no way of knowing that Patty was that unstable.

Nikki: The fact is, if he had just left her alone, none of this would have happened.

Nick: (Sighs) You know, the night before Dad was shot, Vick and I really let him have it. I mean, I was furious with him.

Nikki: Honey, of course you are.

Nick: Then to find out he's hanging by a thread like this, and I-- I'm still angry with him, Mom, but I don't want him to die.

Nikki: I know exactly how you feel. I have spent half my life vacillating between wanting to kill him with my bare hands and thinking if I could even go on without him.

Nick: I still can't believe it's gonna take a heart transplant for him to live.

Nikki: You know what I keep thinking about?

Nick: What?

Nikki: Somebody's gonna have to die for your father to live. And somewhere out there, a family is gonna lose someone they love as much as we love your father.

Nick: (Sighs)

Jeff: Hey, come here.

Gloria: Mmm.

Jeff: You've got a little butter right here.

Gloria: Mmm, oh, my God, that was delicious.

Jeff: Well... (Chuckles)

Gloria: (Chuckles)

Jeff: After what we've been existing on, this is probably gonna send our bodies into shock.

Gloria: I don't care. My taste buds are in heaven.

Jeff: Yeah, why don't we, uh, head on home?

Gloria: And fumble around in the dark for candles and matches? (Scoffs)

Jeff: Candlelight can be very sexy.

Gloria: I know, Jeffrey, but the penthouse is freezing.

Jeff: I can think of a few ways to get you warm.

Gloria: Why don't we get another bottle of bubbly, since Deacon Sharpe's paying, and between the bubbly and you, I won't feel the cold.

Jeff: Hmm, about this, uh, Deacon guy. You wouldn't be holding out on me, would you?

Gloria: Lover man, you know me better than that.

Jeff: Which is why I'll be watching you like a hawk.

Gloria: You say the most romantic things. (Chuckles)

Amber: It's so weird. I mean, Colleen is-- she's gone, but she's not gone.

Kevin: Well, her mind is. Her spirit, her sense of humor, her hopes and dreams-- gone.

Jana: I know I wouldn't want to be kept alive like that.

Kevin: (Sighs)

Daniel: No, definitely not.

Kevin: Anything like that ever happens to me, I would want you to pull the plug.

Jana: Stop.

Kevin: (Sighs) You again? We're closed.

Deacon: All right, okay. Don't--don't shoot. Don't shoot. I come in peace.

Daniel: Yeah, that'll be the day.

Deacon: Look, I'm really sorry about your friend.

Jana: Right, yeah, that's why you came to the hospital and caused a scene.

Daniel: You know, somehow, I think we've all gotten off on the wrong foot here. I, um, I'm really not such a bad guy once you get to know me.

Amber: Oh, prove it. Go back to whatever rock you crawled out from under and leave us all alone.

Deacon: Okay, well, I-- I can't do that, but, um, what I can do is this. I'll give you some more time to come up with the painting, provided that it's the real one.

Daniel: (Chuckles) I'm sure you'll have it checked out.

Deacon: Nah, come on. I'll take your word on it. You and me, we're good like that, right? Okay.

Daniel: (Scoffs)

Cane: I brought you something.

Lily: The scrapbook I was working on for Colleen?

Cane: Yeah.

Lily: Why would you even bring me that right now?

Cane: 'Cause I'm gonna help you finish it.

Lily: What's the point, Cane? She's never even gonna see it.

Cane: Okay. Well, you can look at all these pictures, and you can tell me all the stories behind them, and you can tell me about your happy memories with Colleen and how you'll have them forever. And you know what we're gonna call this book? Hey. "The adventures of Colleen and Lily." Hmm? You know what's gonna happen one day? When you're holding those children that Colleen said you would hold, whether it's a boy or a girl, you're gonna show them this book and they're gonna know all about their Aunt Colleen and how special she was. Okay? Okay?

Lily: (Sighs)

Traci: It's been so great how many of Colleen's friends have stopped by.

Steve: We're not the only ones that loved her.

Abby: Don't. Don't talk about her like she's already dead.

Traci: Oh, Sweetie, he didn't mean it like that.

Abby: I'm sorry.

Steve: No, its okay, Sweetheart. I understand that everybody's nerves are raw.

Abby: (Sighs) I keep hoping that I'll just wake up at the ranch and this will have been some terrible nightmare.

Billy: I know what you mean, kiddo. I feel the same way.

(Door opens)

Traci: I'm not ready yet.

Dr. Snyder: That's not why I'm here.

Steve: Well, what is it, Doc?

Dr. Snyder: I've been informed that on her driver's license, Colleen designated herself as an organ donor. I don't know how you feel on the subject, but your daughter is young. Her organs are strong and healthy. It's just that her brain is no longer telling them to function.

Traci: (Sobs) I'm sorry, I-I-- I've never even thought of anything like this.

Dr. Snyder: It's completely up to you, Mrs. Connolly. We can't carry out Colleen's wishes unless her next-of-kin approves.

Nick: You know how I can tell Dad's sick?

Nikki: How?

Nick: 'Cause he's not trying to run the show.

Victoria: (Sighs) Complaining that the bed is too soft. (Chuckles)

Nikki: Mm-hmm. Or that the nurse didn't bring him his dinner on time.

Victoria: (Giggles)

Nick: As annoyed as we get with him at times, I really can't wait till he's back to his old, controlling self again.

Victoria: Bossing us around.

Nikki: Doctor.

Nick: Dr. Swift, please tell us you have good news.

Dr. Swift: Mr. Newman is officially on the national transplant list.

Nikki: Oh, that's wonderful.

Victoria: (Sighs) How long before they find a heart for him?

Dr. Swift: When an organ becomes available, the patients in the pool are compared to the donor for factors like, uh, blood, tissue type, size of the organ and urgency of the recipient. Those are all considered.

Victoria: Well, it doesn't get more urgent than this.

Dr. Swift: Which is why I'm doing everything I can to have him moved up the list.

Nick: But?

Dr. Swift: But there are over 100,000 people waiting for a transplant.

Nikki: Well, what does that mean for Victor?

Dr. Swift: I'm sorry. There are just no guarantees.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Traci: The minute I sign that document, I will lose my darling girl forever.

Sharon: Someone, help me! I think my baby's coming.

Adam: I haven't sweated blood all these months just to have everything fall apart.

Dr. Taylor: You may not have a choice.

Adam: I'm not gonna give up.
