Nick: Want some more coffee?
Phyllis: No, I'm still wired from the cup I had this morning. (Sighs) Oh, I forgot. I forgot. Her stuffed animal--the bunny. I forgot. I meant to get it when we were at the house.
Nick: That's all right.
Phyllis: No, it's not all right. She says she doesn't sleep well and she doesn't dream good dreams unless she has Mr. Ears right next to her.
Nick: Okay. Okay. I'll--I'll go get it.
Phyllis: No, I don't want you to leave, because if something happens, I want you to be here.
Noah: Hey.
Daniel: Hey.
Phyllis: Hey. Oh! Look at you. You remembered.
(Sighs)
Noah: No good dreams without it.
Phyllis: Oh, I know. I love you guys.
Daniel: How's she doing?
Nick: She's--same.
Phyllis: Yeah.
Noah: Well, maybe this will help.
Phyllis: Oh, it'll definitely help. Put it right next to her, and then give her a big kiss on the cheek.
Noah: Sure, but why don't you?
Phyllis: Um...
Nick: Well, we're, uh, we're not allowed.
Noah: What? Why?
Daniel: Yeah, why?
Mary Jane: (Sighs) Good morning, puss. It's a beautiful day, isn't it? Except for poor little Summer. Who knew that a peanut butter-laced kiss would cause so much trouble for a little girl and her family? Mm! (Sighs) I didn't want to hurt her. I didn’t. But Phyllis gave me no choice. The man-eater had to be stopped. And now she'll pay for trying to take Jack away from me, hmm? (Sighs)
(Bell jingle)
Daniel: Are you saying someone turned you in to the cops?
Nick: Somebody accused her of being an unfit mother.
Noah: No way.
Phyllis: Yeah, they think I'm the reason that Summer is...
Daniel: But you'd never do anything to hurt Summer.
Noah: And anyone who'd think you would is seriously messed up.
Daniel: Do you have any idea who would do that?
Phyllis: (Sighs)
Nikki: Noah and Daniel are here.
Victor: Nicholas and Phyllis can use their support.
Nikki: Yeah. I just can't even imagine what they're going through, knowing that their little girl is sick and right here, but they can't get to her.
Victor: I know.
(Knock on door)
Rafe: They told me I'd find you here.
Victor: Yeah. I appreciate you coming by.
Rafe: I'm very sorry to hear about your granddaughter.
Victor: Uh-huh.
Rafe: Aunt Estella is praying for her.
Victor: Mm-hmm. I brought you down here because of what happened to Adam.
[Rafe remembering]
Adam: Rafe, I have feelings. Don't you?
Rafe: How did you--
Victor: He told me all about it, and I want to find out who's responsible.
Rafe: Uh, I don't understand.
Victor: While he was in prison, there were some guys who stuck needles in his eyes.
Rafe: What?
Victor: What did you think this was about?
Rafe: Uh, nothing. Forget it.
Victor: A bunch of thugs jumped him while he was in prison, and they stabbed a hypodermic needle in his eyes.
Rafe: Well, I don't remember anything in any of the reports about--
Victor: Well, he was embarrassed to talk about that. I asked you to come down here to find out who the hell it was. And whoever is responsible for that, I want you to find them for me. I want to get those bastards. You got it?
Adam: The thing is, Rafe, what happened between us, it caught me completely off guard. (Sighs) Not that I-I didn't like it, 'cause I-I-I did like it. I just, you know, I've been thinking about it more and more, and I realize that it's-- it's not who I am. You know, I-I didn't want to rep-- uh, I don't want to misrepresent myself. I don't want to mislead you, Rafe. Uh, yeah, I probably already have. I-I feel terrible about that. But... the bottom line, Rafe, this can't happen again. (Sighs) That should do the trick.
Phyllis: (Sighs) I guess it was too much to ask for you to stay away, wasn't it?
Sharon: Um, yeah. I probably shouldn't have come.
Daniel: Yeah, you think?
Nick: Daniel.
Sharon: Honestly, I was just really concerned about Summer. How is she?
Nick: She's the same.
Sharon: Okay. Do you need anything?
Daniel: Well, what we need is to find out who accused my mom of hurting her daughter.
Sharon: What?
Nick: (Sighs) Someone filed an anonymous report.
Sharon: Oh. Oh, is that why you guys are out here and not-- I see. Well, that's awful. I'm--that's the last thing you need.
Nick: Well, at least she's not alone. Mom and Dad were granted temporary custody while we try and get our rights reinstated.
Phyllis: (Sighs) Guys, why don't you relieve them and--and give the bunny to your sister? That would be great.
Noah: No problem.
Rafe: I've been trying to get in touch with you. If you still want those papers filed, there's a couple things we have to go over.
Noah: This isn't really a good time. Can I call you?
Rafe: Of course.
Rafe: (Sighs) I'm sorry.
Nick: Guess I was hoping with everything that's happened that Noah would forget this whole emancipation thing.
Sharon: Well, we don't know for sure that's what Rafe wanted to go over with him.
Nick: I mean, I'm-- I'm so worried about losing my daughter. I've probably already lost my son. There's not a damn thing I can do about either one of them.
Victor: Seems only yesterday we were holding vigil for you, son.
Noah: Hopefully, Summer will pull out of it like I did.
Victor: Yeah.
Noah: Hey, Summer. Look who I brought.
Victor: (Chuckles)
Noah: Mr. Ears really missed you. I'll put him right here so he can watch over you.
Nikki: It's good that you two are here. She needs to have her big brothers with her.
Daniel: I promised the little sweetheart that I'd be back.
Victor: By the way, thank you so much for making the DVDs of her, son.
Nikki: Yes, thank you so much. That was wonderful.
Noah: Why don't you and, uh, Grandpa take a break? We'll hold down the fort for a while.
Victor: I think that's a good idea. All right.
Nikki: All right. We'll be back.
Noah: (Sighs) You know, it's freaky seeing Summer in a hospital bed. It's just like...
Daniel: Well, she's our little Supergirl. Come on, Baby, can't you open those eyes for me and flash me that killer smile?
Noah: She's gonna pull through this, right?
Daniel: Well, she has once before.
Noah: You mean when she was born?
Daniel: Yeah. There wasn't no way she was gonna miss her big entrance.
Noah: And after that, it was like I suddenly had this mission to protect her from getting hurt.
Daniel: (Chuckles) Well, if only we could, right?
Nikki: I told Summer the two of you were right out in the hallway sending buckets of love to her.
Phyllis: Thank you for everything.
(Cell phone rings)
Victor: Excuse me.
Phyllis: You know, I just want to be able to talk to her. I just want to be next to her so she can hear my voice.
Nick: She has-- she has people around here...
Phyllis: It's not the same thing.
Nick: Who love her.
Phyllis: It's not-- it's not the same thing. They're not the ones who hold her hand when she's afraid and she's scared and sick. They're not the ones who tell her stories about magic kingdoms and how princesses grow up to marry the prince. (Sighs) Oh, I'm losing my mind. I gotta fi-- I gotta get out of here.
Nick: Wait, I'll go with you.
Phyllis: No, I don't want you to go with me. I want you to stay here. Can you please just stay here in--in case she wakes up, please?
Nikki: Nicholas, why don't I go get you some coffee?
Nick: Sharon, where are you going?
Sharon: Somebody needs to talk to Phyllis.
Nick: Well, I-- I don't think you should be the one to do that. I don't think you could help her.
Sharon: I might be the only one who can.
Victor: Well, send those figures to Victoria, and then I will look them over, all right? Yep. What are you doing here?
Nikki: Here, Honey.
Nick: Thanks, Mom.
Nikki: It's a horrible thing to know your child is sick and there's not anything you can do to fix it.
Nick: It's just one thing after another. I mean, first, Noah hits us with this emancipation thing, and then this nightmare with Summer. Then if finding out that Sharon's baby isn't mine wasn't enough, then we get hit with these charges against Phyllis. I just--
Nikki: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Back it up. I knew that Sharon was pregnant. I didn't know that you weren't the father.
Nick: I'm sorry. I just--I just assumed that Dad had told you. Jack's the father.
Nikki: Oh, my God.
Nick: I mean, I really thought that Cassie's prediction was gonna be true, that--that someday, Sharon and I would have another little girl together. It's like everything in my life that I've counted on is just--just gone.
Nikki: I am in absolute shock.
Nick: You know, I hear stories about people in floods and fires who lose everything they have, and I'm amazed that they can get out of bed in the morning, let alone keep going on.
Nikki: They don't have a choice, and neither do you, son. You will get through this. You have to have faith. You have to trust that things will turn around. I know that's what I'm counting on, for Summer and you, for all of us.
Adam: I really don't-- I really hope you don't hate me for not being who you thought I was. I still hope that we can be...
(Knock on door)
Adam: Friends. Come in.
Rafe: Hi.
Adam: Hey. When you called and said you were coming by, I didn't think you were so close.
Rafe: Is this a bad time?
Adam: No, no, no, no. Um, I was gonna call you, actually. Uh, we should talk.
Rafe: I agree. But first, uh, you should know that your father has asked me to look into the attack on you in prison, specifically when you were stabbed in the eye with a hypodermic needle.
Adam: He's never gonna let that go, is he?
Rafe: Well, he feels strongly that his son should get justice, that the men responsible should pay for their crimes.
Adam: (Sighs) That's never gonna happen.
Rafe: Hmm, well, the only reason it wouldn't, Adam, is if it never happened in the first place.
Adam: What are you saying?
Rafe: I'm saying that I made a couple calls on my way over here, and in none of the assault or harassment reports that you filed was there ever any mention of needles. Why is that? Why, after such a brutal attack, would you leave out the worst part?
Mary Jane: Have you forgotten I do consulting work for "Restless Style"?
Victor: What does that have to do with any of this?
Mary Jane: I've become friends with Phyllis and her daughter Summer, so--
Victor: Did I not make it clear to you some time ago to stay away from my family?
Mary Jane: Yes.
Victor: I meant it. Now please get out, okay? What?
Mary Jane: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. (Sobs)
Victor: Sorry about what?
Mary Jane: I'm just-- I've been so upset for Phyllis and her daughter, and I-- I just--I-I-I didn't even think about the repercussions of--of--
Victor: Good God, woman. Would you kindly leave now? Now.
Sharon: Look, I know I'm the last person that you want to deal with right now. But I'm also the only person who knows what you're going through, and I think I can help.
Phyllis: It's okay. You can stay.
Noah: (Sighs) It's like she's taking a nap, and any minute, you think she's gonna wake up.
Daniel: It's driving Mom crazy.
Noah: Phyllis can't even be in the room because someone accused her of purposely causing Summer's allergic reaction.
Amber: That is--what? That's crazy.
Daniel: Yeah, tell me about it.
Amber: Who would do that?
Noah: No one knows. And it's not just Phyllis they're keeping out. My dad can't go in either.
Daniel: Everyone else, they can just come and go as they please, even that lawyer guy.
Noah: (Sighs) Rafe Torres. I think he had business with my grandpa.
Daniel: Well, you, too. I mean, what was with those papers that he wanted filed?
Noah: Look, you're gonna hear about it sooner than later. I'm filing for emancipation.
Daniel: You're doing what?
Amber: Isn't that like divorcing your parents?
Noah: It's exactly like that.
Daniel: Hey, look, I get you wanting your freedom. But, I mean, are things really that bad?
Noah: (Sighs) Both of my parents have gone out of their way to keep Eden and me apart. Meanwhile, they can't make up their minds if they want to be together or not. They're way out of line.
Daniel: Mom said that her and Nick were all but over. She seemed pretty broken up about it.
Noah: That's what I mean. They do what they want, and they don't think about anyone else's feelings, and now they want me to fall in line and be a family, because this time, it's gonna last.
Daniel: Don't you think maybe you should give it a chance, see if--
Noah: No, I-I-I can't take wondering where I'm gonna live every other night because they can't make up their minds.
Amber: (Sighs) You know, I get that.
Daniel: Yeah, she might get that, but I think she might also agree with me that breaking off from them and trying to go out on your own, I mean, that-- that's just a stupid idea.
Noah: (Sighs)
Victor: What's that?
Nick: (Sighs) A pamphlet somebody gave me. They obviously thought I needed a lesson in faith and the hereafter.
Victor: Mm-hmm.
Nick: You know, Dad, I can accept that someday, we'll all, you know, be together. I just wish my kids didn't have to be a part of that deal.
Victor: (Sighs) I wish nothing more than to be able to make this all go away for you.
Nick: I know.
Victor: Perhaps the person who gave you this pamphlet knew the best way to get through troubled times is to never give up hope.
Nick: How do I keep it alive when everything around me is crashing in? Two days ago, I was house hunting with Sharon, thinking I was gonna be a father again. Now that's been ripped away from me.
Victor: I understand, son.
Nick: You do, don't you? Because of Sabrina.
Victor: Yep. You know, the thing is to not dwell on the past. The thing is to move forward. Be happy with what you do have.
Nick: I don't even know what that is anymore. I mean, I've barely talked to Sharon since-- since all this happened. You know, since I found out her baby wasn't mine.
Victor: (Sighs) You know, just focus on Summer getting well now. You'll have plenty of time to deal with... the child situation, but I-I feel for you. I really do.
Phyllis: How did you do it? How did you sit there watching Cassie in that hospital bed, fighting for her life and not completely fall apart?
Sharon: I think I was on autopilot for a lot of it. I couldn't let myself go to the worst-case scenario. Maybe that was because I knew that we were already there, but-- not that I think that that's what's happening now with Summer. It's--it's not. No one has told you that Summer's not gonna make it, and as long as she's still here and breathing, you can't give up hope, not for her sake and not for your own.
Phyllis: Right. Oh, I remember the first time I held her. It was during that horrible ice storm, and everything was frozen over, but... not my daughter, not the Supergirl. She was warm, and she was so alive. And in that moment, I believed in things that I had never believed in before.
Sharon: Like everything that you dreamed for her was possible, right? Well, you have to hold onto that. You have to.
Phyllis: (Sighs) Oh, I'm trying.
Phyllis: (Sniffles)
Phyllis: (Sighs) (Cries)
Adam: I can't expect you to understand what-- what it was like in there.
Rafe: Try me.
Adam: I was harassed daily by the men who beat me. I wasn't about to make things worse.
Rafe: Well, you had no problem naming your accusers in the report. Since that already put you in harm's way, why not get specific about the fact that they jammed needles in your eyeballs?
Adam: I wasn't even gonna file a report. The guards forced me to.
Rafe: The guards forced you?
Adam: Yeah, I-- maybe they didn't want responsibility if something happened to me. I-- I don't know. (Sighs) They were probably going by the book. What?
Rafe: It's just that, Adam, I've spent a lot of time around jails and prisons in my time as a lawyer, and believe me, I've seen my fair share of inmate attacks. No one, especially not a guard, ever forces anyone to file a report.
Adam: Are you saying you think that I'm lying?
Rafe: What I'm saying is something doesn't make sense here, and in my mind, the only reason it wouldn't make sense is if you're hiding something. Are you?
Daniel: Okay, look. I know this is gonna sound lame, but your mom--thank you-- your mom and dad, they just want what's best for you.
Noah: I know.
Daniel: Okay, you know. Well, then ditch this whole plan to strike out on your own.
Noah: But it's not that easy.
Daniel: You think it's gonna be easy living on your own? I mean, do you have any idea what it costs just to get an apartment alone? You've got your first month's rent, your last month's rent, uh, your security deposit.
Amber: Oh, not to mention cable, electric, phone.
Daniel: Yeah, and you're not gonna be able to call your parents to have them bail you out, because guess what? They're not responsible for you anymore. Yeah, they'll be there for moral support.
Noah: Or be there to say, "I told you so."
Daniel: (Laughs) Okay, still not getting it. Um, Summer. If Summer could talk, don't you think that she would give anything to have her parents around?
Noah: That's just it. They're not around. They're too busy making a mess of their own lives to even know I'm alive most of the time.
Daniel: Okay, well, that's all the more reason not to bail out on them, you know, when things are at their worst.
Noah: I just want to be able to see Eden without being hassled, that's all.
Daniel: And I get that. I do. Why? 'Cause she's the one sane thing in all this craziness, right? You see, I don't know what I would have done recently in my own life with all the stuff that's been going on if Amber wasn't there for me. So, you know, maybe it's time you stop wasting all your energy trying to break away from your parents and focus on the fact that you have that person, that one person that you can count on that you know is never gonna let you down.
Nikki: You'd think after everything Nicholas has been through, with Cassie and Noah and now Sharon, that he'd be granted a reprieve.
Victor: Yeah. He will be once I find out who filed that report. I will not tolerate any more lies against our family.
Nikki: I heard you talking to Rafe about Adam. It does seem very strange that he wouldn't have mentioned that needle stabbing.
Victor: Don't you worry about that.
Nikki: Well, I do, when it affects a very dear friend. I'm still convinced that Estella is just an innocent victim in this.
Victor: I know you think that. Right now, we're here to support our children and grandchildren. Let's concentrate on that, all right?
Adam: I did consider mentioning the needle stabbing when I first filed a report, but, uh, I-I honestly thought it would be safer not to. I mean, look, it is one thing to--to narc out an obvious beating, but, uh, to--to go to the authorities and say the men responsible had hypodermics on them?
Rafe: Well, I just don't understand how withholding that information would keep you safe when you've already-- when you've already filed the report.
Adam: Can we just-- can we just not talk about this? I-I try not to focus on it, especially not when I'm so-- so happy.
Rafe: You are?
Adam: (Sighs) Listen, Rafe, um, ever since the last time you were-- you were here, I've been thinking about that nonstop, and when you-- when you called and you said you were coming over, I-- I-I got really excited.
Rafe: How stupid do you think I am?
Sharon: You know, you may not believe this, but, um, I'm glad that you and Nick have each other during this horrible time, because I know from experience that going through this alone can be pretty devastating, and the only way that you'll get through whatever happens is together.
Phyllis: (Sighs)
Sharon: That's how I've survived the hell of the past few months, knowing that Jack has been there for me and will be there, no matter what happens with me and this baby. It means everything.
Phyllis: Sharon, none of this makes sense. I-I can't be in that room with my daughter. They won't let me near her. I can't even--I can't hold her. I can't do anything.
Sharon: Okay, listen to me. You may not be able to-- to hold her in your arms, but you can touch her with your heart. You can be there for Summer from a million miles away, because the bond between you two, it goes beyond time and space. It's forever.
Phyllis: Yeah.
Sharon: So just forget about the charges against you. Everyone knows that you would never do anything like that to your daughter.
Phyllis: No, no, no. Everyone doesn't know that.
Sharon: All that matters now is being there for Summer, any way you can.
Noah: I'm not gonna say I was wrong to want to break up with my mom and dad.
Daniel: And I'm not gonna say that you won't still be annoyed at the way they act.
Amber: Yeah, I mean, you wouldn't be normal if you weren’t.
Daniel: Yeah, but them not having a legal say isn't gonna keep them from weighing in on who you do or do not date.
Amber: (Laughs) I can vouch for that.
Noah: How do you deal with it-- Phyllis being so down on you guys?
Daniel: Well, Mom may not accept Amber, but she knows that she makes me happy. And now she's just kind of come to... (Chuckles) Deal with it. I don't know.
Noah: That's cool. You guys seem right for each other.
Daniel: Amber never doubted it, even when I broke it off with her. You know, she kind of taught me how to have faith.
Noah: I hope Eden and I will always have that kind of faith in each other.
Daniel: Look, man, if Eden is as an amazing girl as you say she is, you're not gonna have a problem with that, because when you find someone that you can really believe in, you just know it in your gut, right, babe?
Amber: Right.
Daniel: Yeah.
Nikki: Okay. I'm gonna run home, and then I'm stopping by the ranch to pick up a change of clothes that Ashley's left out for your father. Is there anything I can get for you or Phyllis?
Nick: No, thanks.
Nikki: All right, baby.
Nick: Hey, Mom, thanks for everything.
Nikki: (Sighs) I really don't feel like I've done anything.
Nick: You and Dad have put aside your own issues to be there for my little girl. It means a lot to me.
Nikki: I'll be back.
Nick: Everything okay?
Sharon: Yeah, it's fine.
Phyllis: Um, has the doctor come to see her?
Nick: Any minute now.
Sharon: Um, well, I'm gonna get going. Remember what I said.
Phyllis: Sharon? Um, there's something I'd like you to do for me.
Rafe: You really think you can sweet-talk your way out of answering my questions?
Adam: Is that what you think I'm doing?
Rafe: You didn't answer the question.
Adam: God, I really am stupid. To think that-- that I was hoping that—
(Sighs)
Rafe: What?
Adam: Forget it.
Rafe: Tell me.
Adam: What happened between us, Rafe-- I thought I found someone that I could be me with. I--to think that you're accusing me of using that is--
Rafe: No, I-- it just seemed like you were--
Adam: Listen, I was scared. You ever been scared? That's why I didn't put it in the report. These people could have killed me, which is nothing compared to what you just did.
Rafe: Adam, I'm not trying to--
Adam: Rafe, what I did with you I have never done with anyone before. I thought that what we shared-- you know, you should probably just leave. I mean it. Get out.
Rafe: Adam?
Noah: Call me if you go to the hospital later?
Daniel: Definitely.
Noah: Thanks for the pep talk.
Daniel: Yeah, just do me a favor-- next time mom and dad are driving you nuts, skip the lawyer and just call me.
Noah: Deal.
Daniel: What's up with you, huh? Why are you so quiet?
Amber: Nothing, I was just-- I was just remembering when I was Noah's age. All the mistakes I made.
Daniel: Yeah, well, you turned out okay.
Amber: (Chuckles) Yeah, I'm not so sure.
Daniel: It is kind of weird, though. I mean, now you're the one who's on the straight and narrow, and here I am on the wrong side of the law.
Amber: Yeah, it's weird all right.
Daniel: Especially with all the doubts of all the people that I can or cannot trust. It's just nice, you know, having you that I don't have to worry about.
(Lock beeps)
Mary Jane: Kitty, you are gonna be so proud of mama that she hasn't lost her touch at getting what she wants... not that I'm gonna take the fall for this one. I am so sorry, Sharon, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. And you gotta go away just like Phyllis. I've lost Jack to sluts like you, and I'm not gonna have that happen again.
Sharon: So many people love you, especially your mom and dad. You know, they're waiting outside. They're not gonna leave until you open your eyes and you show them that beautiful smile of yours. I know you're gonna make it through this, because you're a fighter, like your mom, and you're strong, like your dad. And they're not gonna give up, and neither can you. You know, I have a-- I have a message from your mommy. She says that, um, she used to always sing you this song when you were a baby, and it would make you wake up with a smile. Beautiful dreamer wake unto me starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee beautiful dreamer queen of my song list while I woo thee with sweet melody list while I woo thee with sweet melody.
Mary Jane: Kitty, you'll never guess what mama just--
Victor: What's the meaning of this?
Nikki: I could have sworn Ashley said she left Victor's clothes in the foyer. Well, maybe Adam knows.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Ashley: Promise me you're not gonna freak out, okay? I really haven't felt the baby kick for quite a while now.
Mary Jane: I'm in love with you. We were meant for each other.
Nikki: I saw Adam. I think there's something you should know.
