Ashley: You really want to do that?

Victor: Do what?

Victor: You look beautiful.

Ashley: Thank you. You look kind of dark. Is it because of Adam?

Victor: I was going to check up on him.

Ashley: You don't want to go in there.

Victor: Why not?

Ashley: Because I've missed you. Why don't you come downstairs with me?

Victor: Do you know how sexy you are right now?

Ashley: Tell me, how?

Victor: How can I resist the temptation? Let's go.

Ashley: I was hoping you'd say that.

Adam: This is crazy. I should shut up. I'm just some client.

Rafe: You're not just some client, Adam. We were friends.

Adam: Friends, right. I never should have said anything.

Rafe: So why did you?

Adam: When I first got to Genoa City... (Clears throat) I was that guy that everybody looked at sideways, suspicious. And then the thought of-- of you thinking that of me, it just--it--it-- it hit me that I could take it from anyone, but-- but not you. I'm an idiot. We can forget this.

Rafe: No. We can’t.

Mac: A paternity test? Sharon?

Chloe: You'd think someone would have filled her in by now, huh?

Billy: Oh, would you just shut up, Chloe?

Chloe: So Billy nailed his brother's wife. Yep, and I guess it was just in the heat of the moment, because, whoops, they didn't use protection. But don't worry about it. Don't worry. Don't freak out just yet, because Billy is actually not the only daddy option. So, uh, I don't know. Should we all just hang out and wait for the results to come back, and then you guys can get back to what you guys were doing?

Mary Jane: Um... no, Jack.

Jack: What do you mean, "No"?

Mary Jane: No, I-- Honey, I do want you. (Laughs) I do. It's, um, I just know you, and right now, your head is someplace else, hmm?

Jack: (Sighs) I'm sorry.

Mary Jane: No, please. Don't be. Don't be. I like you, whether we're in bed or just talking. So let's just talk, hmm? You can tell me why you're so preoccupied right now.

Jack: (Sighs)

Sharon: I know I had no right to ask after all the things I've done, but you made my child a healthy baby girl, and you made Nick her father. That means-- that means Cassie was right, that her father and I would have a baby girl again one day. It was Cassie's last gift to us. It was your gift. And this is a sign. This is a sign that Nick and I are meant to be together. And I know that it won't always be easy, but we'll make it because of Cassie, because of this baby. (Sighs) Nick, where are you? I can't wait to see the look on your face when I tell you how wonderful our life is gonna be.

Phyllis: Why won't she open her eyes? Why won't she wake up, Doctor?

Doctor: She's in shock. Her heart rate is slow. Her blood pressure's low. She's, um, she's currently comatose.

Phyllis: She's in--she's in-- she's in a coma.

(Sighs)

Nick: You say she got, uh, peanut butter cookies?

Phyllis: Yeah, she got the-- the cookies. The cookies were sitting on my desk. They were sitting on my desk, but, Nick, I threw them out. I threw them out. I threw them in the garbage, and she must have gotten into them, and she wasn't breathing. She wasn't breathing. She's in a coma.

(Sobs)

Nick: (Mouthing words)

Billy: (Sighs)

Chloe: I wasn't supposed to tell you, but then I thought that the test results were a little bit more important than you getting lucky.

Billy: Would you just be quiet, please?

Mac: You two love this. You torture each other for fun.

Billy: No, look, wait. Mac, don't, um... hey, it was an accident, all right? I-it just--

Chloe: Yeah, see, he sort of just tripped and fell on top of her while she was naked.

Billy: It was before you came back to town.

Mac: Move.

Billy: Mac, just listen.

Mac: Fine.

Billy: Oh, God. Mac, please don’t...

(Door slams)

Billy: Go.

(Punches door)

Chloe: You want to go after her, don't you? To hell with finding out if you're a father, huh? Is that how you prove what a good, decent guy you are?

Billy: Yeah, Mac's right. You're enjoying this.

Chloe: Yeah. Yeah, I'm loving it.

Billy: You know, I think you are.

Chloe: Fine, I admit it. I admit it. You know, when we go toe-to-toe, yeah, I get a tingle. But look at you. Look at you. You are in the pit of despair. All this deep art and love pouring out on the floor like blood. Yeah, this is great for me, Billy.

Billy: Well, feel free not to watch.

Chloe: I'm not the issue here, Billy. The issue is Sharon and the baby. Are you an uncle, a daddy or one lucky S.O.B. who just got off the hook?

Jack: You're right. I am distracted... not that you don't hold my attention. Believe me, I--

Mary Jane: Jack... (laughs) I'm a big girl, all right? I'm not offended, and, of course, you have a lot of things going on in your mind. I've seen the people come to you, lean on you. You know, maybe there will be one less demand soon.

Jack: Why would you say that?

Mary Jane: Oh, I just have an instinct about Nick and Phyllis.

Jack: I know you and Phyllis have become great friends. But Nick and Phyllis together, that's not gonna happen.

Mary Jane: Well, there's a lot of love there. They just need time to open up.

Jack: Nick's attention is elsewhere. That's not gonna change.

Mary Jane: Nick and Phyllis just needed a-a reason to--

Jack: Believe me, I admire your optimism.

Mary Jane: But I'm dead wrong... or you are. Jack, they just need a reason to open up. A little nudge, and the magic could happen. And then there'll be one less person for you to look after.

Jack: Look, Phyllis and I go a long way back.

Mary Jane: Mm.

Jack: Right now, my mind's on my brother.

Mary Jane: You'd like a rain check?

Jack: Would you be all right with that?

Mary Jane: Of course. Just remember what that rain check is for. Hmm?

Phyllis: And then you can have those dolls that you wanted with the hair and eye shadow and the short skirt, you know? That Mommy wouldn't let you have. But if you want that, if it makes you smile, you can have it, Summer. You just need to open your eyes. Baby girl, please open your eyes. Please.

(Sobs)

Nick: What's wrong?

Phyllis: She made me this bracelet. She was so proud.

(Machines beeping)

Phyllis: Nick, you don't have to be scared.

Nick: Scared of what?

Phyllis: To talk to her, to touch her. Don't be scared. The doctor says it's good. Talk to her. Go talk to her, please? Just talk to her.

Nick: (Sighs) Daddy's here now, okay? I'm right here.

Sharon: Oh, Cassie, it's a miracle. Your dad and I-- we're a family again. We're getting a house. And in my heart-- baby, in my heart, there is a room there for you, for you and Noah and me and your new baby sister Faith and your dad. Nick... where is he? He hasn't called me. He did call.

Nick: Sharon, it's me. Summer's sick -- anaphylactic shock from peanuts. They're taking her to the hospital now. I'll meet you there.

Nick: My dad sends his love to Summer.

Phyllis: Did you hear that, Sweetie? Did you hear that? Your granddaddy Victor, he sends his love.

Nick: You want me to call anyone? Daniel or Michael?

Phyllis: No, unh-unh. I don't-- I really don't want you to, because they're gonna come here, and they're gonna cry, or they're gonna be brave and say all the right things, and I just-- I can't hear it right now, Nick. I really-- I can't hear any of that. Please don't let them come. Please?

Nick: Okay. Okay. No one's gonna come by.

Phyllis: I don't want anybody to come here. We shouldn't be here. Summer shouldn't be here. She should be in her own bed... (Sighs) Safe.

Phyllis: (Sobs)

Nick: Come here. Come here.

Phyllis: (Sobs)

Nick: It's okay. Come here.

Phyllis: (Sobs)

Nick: It's gonna be okay.

Phyllis: (Sobs)

Phyllis: Hey, Sweetie, wake up. You're ready to wake up. Let's wake up. Come back to us now.

Ashley: What about the adrenaline shot? Phyllis always has that with her.

Victor: (Sighs) Perhaps the allergic reaction was too much.

Ashley: One second. Let me get my things.

Victor: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. They didn't want any visitors, okay?

Ashley: Why?

Victor: Summer's in a coma.

Ashley: Oh, my God. No. They must be in agony.

Victor: Yeah. Um, do you need anything?

Ashley: What are you doing? You're changing the subject.

Victor: Because I don't want you to go through any stress right now.

Ashley: You don't think it stresses me out for you to be pretending you're not concerned about your granddaughter?

Victor: Sweetheart, of course I'm concerned about my granddaughter. But right now, there's nothing I can do about that. I can, however, do something about you and the baby, okay?

Ashley: Okay.

Victor: Okay.

Ashley: Summer has to be all right. Nicholas needs that little girl, just like you need this baby after what happened to Sabrina while she was pregnant.

Victor: Sweetheart, let's not talk about it. That is all in the past now.

Ashley: Victor, just because you had Sabrina's things taken away doesn't mean the loss goes away, whether or not you talk about it.

Victor: I will talk about it and lean on you.

Ashley: To humor me?

Victor: Because I need you.

Ashley: I think that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me.

Victor: Really? I mean it. You've brought life to this house, joy to my life, and the baby. There's Hope now. Sabrina's part of the past, okay?

Rafe: You're quiet.

Adam: Yeah.

Rafe: That's okay. I can go. Or I can stay.

Adam: You should probably go. My--my father--

Rafe: Look, Adam, what happened-- I know you have Heather, and I know the world sees you in a certain way. So if you're feeling at all confused, I, uh--

Adam: Hey, I'm fine. I-I'm-I'm fine. Uh, you--you should...

Rafe: Take it easy.

Adam: Heather, I need you.

Chloe: So you're sure you're all done with that?

Billy: Why are you still here?

Chloe: Oh, I don't know, just drinking in the atmosphere. So what did you do? Did you hold her hand? Say something sweet and funny with a whole bunch of meaning?

Billy: Oh, do you want to play, Chloe? Huh? You want to get all lippy and clever and we can have "The Chloe and Billy show"?

Chloe: That is our thing, isn't it?

Billy: No, your thing is to trash my life.

Chloe: No, you did all the trashing. I'm just the color commentator.

Billy: What was all that noise about you being done with me?

Chloe: Oh, I am. I'm done.

Billy: Oh, no, you're here, which means you're not done. So what did you think was gonna happen? You were gonna scare off Mac, and, uh, you and I were gonna rumble, and then sparks would fly, and we'd end up on the bed? Is that what you thought was gonna happen?

Chloe: Oh, yeah, that would have been so hot. It's so hot the way that you chase after "Crusader girl." I'm so turned on by the way that you rent a hotel room to get lucky like some loser who just went to prom.

Billy: Why do you care?

Chloe: Because your daughter's about to find out if she has a sibling.

Billy: Yeah, you keep saying that. It--

Chloe: Yeah, and you keep not caring. Forget anything, anyone, who doesn't have to do with Mac, even your old best friend Raul, your best man. You were about to just poach his fiancée.

Billy: She's not his fiancée. She gave back the ring, and there's no engagement. There's-- there's no nothing, okay?

Chloe: Wow.

Billy: Yeah, wow. Wow.

Chloe: Wow. And here comes Chloe.

Billy: Yes, here comes Chloe with her perfect timing.

Chloe: So what were you gonna do? What were you gonna do? Were you gonna seal the deal, wait for the paternity results to come back, and then, well, if you were the winner, hey, you already got the prize that you really wanted, even though you had to lie to get it?

Billy: I didn't lie to Mac. There was nothing to tell her, not yet. There was nothing to tell her yet.

Chloe: No, but you could tell me about Sharon because I know who you are. But Mac? Mac--she looks at you, and she has all this hope and all this trust. And it's like, "Things could be different. You'll be different this time." But you're not, Billy. What are you gonna do? Are you gonna chase after her? Or are you gonna stick around and find out if you're a daddy again?

(Door slams)

Sharon: Nick's breaking. God, just like with Cassie. Why would this happen? Why would this happen to such a sweet little girl? Is it because Nick and I made love when he was still with Phyllis? I thought that my baby was your blessing on us. Was I wrong? Phyllis. Phyllis said that it would kill Nick if I forced him to choose me over her and Summer, that--that it would destroy him. Oh, God. (Sighs) Faith, I feel you. I know you're there. Don't worry. Your sister Summer will be okay. She will. This isn't karma, is it? No. No child would have to suffer because Nick and I found our way back together. It was a-- it was an accident. It was just an accident, and the--the doctors are gonna be able to help her. But how do I help Nick? It just kills me to see him suffer. How do I ease the pain in his eyes? I-- just show me what to do. Show me how to help him. I'll do whatever it takes.

Doctor: My biggest concern right now is brain damage from the lack of oxygen.

Phyllis: Okay, well, can I go with her? Can I just be in the room?

Doctor: I'm sorry. No. But rest assured, she will not feel a thing.

Phyllis: Okay, I just-- hey, all right, baby girl. Remember when you were afraid to go to camp, and I said, "It's all right, because I'm gonna be right with you, right in your heart"? I love you, and Daddy loves you, too. All right. I love you.

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Phyllis: (Sniffles) (Sighs) I'm sorry.

Nick: For what?

Phyllis: Listen, nobody's in here now. You don't have to be nice to me. You don't have to be noble. "For what"? For hurting our daughter. I should have thrown those cookies away. I should have thrown them out the window. I should have taken our daughter, and I should have run far away, but I didn't do that, and this is my fault. This is my fault, and--

Nick: Listen. Hey, listen to me.

Phyllis: (Sniffles)

Nick: Listen to me. You--you saved her. You got to our little girl in time, and you saved her life. You did that.

Phyllis: I didn't save her life. She "Won't feel a thing" because she can't wake up, and I did this. Come on, you know it's true. Let's just get it out in the open, Nick.

Nick: I-I don't know what you th-think. I--

Phyllis: I think you hate me. I think you hate me for what I did to our daughter. (Sighs) I think you hate me, and I-I don't blame you because I hate me, too. I-I don't blame you.

Nick: No, no, no. Look. I'm not gonna let you do that. You are not pushing me away.

Phyllis: I'm not trying to push you away.

Nick: Look, I'm not gonna let you do that.

[Humming]

(Knock on door)

Heather: Adam? Hey. You know, I-- I just saw your dad and Ashley downstairs, and they seemed kind of upset about something.

(Gasps)

Adam: (Sighs)

Heather: Hi. Where--where-- where'd that come from?

Adam: (Sighs)

Ashley: I haven't forgotten.

Victor: Forgot what?

Ashley: That you had something on your mind before you got that call about Summer.

Victor: Oh. Oh, it's just about an employee who thinks she can function without supervision.

Ashley: She must not know you very well. That's definitely not a good idea.

Victor: Mm. It ain't, is it?

Ashley: No.

Victor: Mm.

Ashley: She'll come around. You're the kind of person people want to work for.

Victor: (Chuckles)

Ashley: You are. They like your approval and your respect.

Victor: I'm glad you think so. Thank you.

Ashley: Ooh.

Victor: What?

Ashley: My baby's hungry.

Victor: Baby?

Ashley: Yes, I've gotta get some yogurt. Do you want anything?

Victor: Nothing, Sweetheart. Thank you.

Ashley: Okay.

Mary Jane: This is Mary Jane. I'm not available right now. Please leave a message.

Ashley: Hi, want a bite?

Victor: My baby, nothing.

Ashley: Mm.

Victor: There's something I need to take care of right now, okay?

Ashley: Okay. Are you going out?

Victor: Yep. No, some--some business here that needs to be settled.

Ashley: All right, honey, I'll be waiting.

Victor: Thank you, my sweetheart.

Ashley: So will the baby.

Victor: I'll be back.

Billy: Hey, Jack, my brother, my pal.

Jack: Chloe tell you Sharon should have the test results by now?

Billy: Yes, she did.

Jack: And you came here.

Billy: And I am here. (Sighs) Sharon knows where to find me. Trust me. Plus, I have a cell phone, so if I'm the lucky guy, she knows exactly how to get a hold of me.

Jack: God, you stupid son of a-- do you have any idea how much I would like this child to be mine?

Billy: Well, Jack, you're a great guy, and everybody knows that, and everybody knows who I am, so...

Jack: Careful. You could choke on that kind of self-pity. This child is a miracle, a gift, not some new way the world has found to screw you over. If you can't see that, you're worse off than I thought you were.

Nick: You're not gonna run, all right? You're gonna listen to me.

Phyllis: (Sighs) Stop being nice to me. You know that this is all my fault.

Nick: No, look. Listen. You know-- you know, when I first walked in this room, I froze, all right? I couldn't talk. I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything. And when I saw Summer in that bed...

Phyllis: Like Cassie.

Nick: I froze when Cassie died, too. All these people who needed me, who trusted me, I let them down. The time I needed to be strong and supportive, I wasn't any of those things, all right? I was nothing. And to think about how useless I was back then--

Phyllis: You weren't useless. You weren't useless.

Nick: Phyllis, I'm telling you, I have to do this. I'm here for you and for Summer through every step, through every moment of--of fear or relief.

Phyllis: (Sighs) You shouldn't have to go through this at all. You shouldn't have to go through this.

Nick: Well, neither should you. And you're not going anywhere, and neither am I. Phyllis, I gotta do this, okay? I have to. If I don't, I'll be lost inside. I might as well be dead. I don't think I could come back from this again if I don't, not this time. So you can push me all you want, but I'm not going anywhere.

Phyllis: I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna push, okay? Um, I-- I need to just fix my face. I don't want Summer to see me like this, you know, if she wakes up.

Nick: Unh-unh, not "If." When.

Phyllis: When.

Sharon: Hey, I got your message. How's Summer?

Nick: She's in a coma. They're, um, they're testing for brain damage.

Sharon: Wow. Oh, Nick, I'm so sorry.

Nick: You know, we say every day how big she's getting and how--how grown-up she is. But I swear to you, when I look at her, I still think I could fit her into the palm of my hand. What about the paternity results? Did you--did you see them? Look, its okay. No matter what they say, everything's gonna be all right.

Sharon: I-I waited for you, and then I-I got your message, so I-I just--I didn't look. Nick, you know what? All that matters right now is Summer, okay? Uh, she-- she knows you're here for her, and that means the world to her. I know that.

Nick: But you waited so long for those.

Sharon: This is-- this is all there is, Nick, right now-- you and Phyllis and your daughter.

Phyllis: Hey, pretty girl. How'd she do? Oh, good. You're so brave.

(Door opens)

(Door closes)

Billy: Come on, Jack. Do you really think that Sharon wants me to be the father of her kid any more than I want to be?

Jack: No. No, she doesn’t. Hell, no. That's not the point. You missed another wake-up call, Billy. They don't seem to register with you, and now you have a role-- the lovable screw-up. Let me tell you something. Over time, the "Lovable" part wears off. You're just a screw-up, period. From where I sit, you're almost there. Once you get there, Billy, you're no use to anyone.

Chloe: (Snickers) Oh, Mac. Bummer. You just missed Billy. You must be looking for him. He's looking for you. Wow, you guys are like the last act in all those romantic movies. You're like star-crossed lovers.

(Chuckles)

Mac: I didn't come back for Billy. I came for this. Bummer. I guess you're the one waiting for him to come back.

Chloe: Believe me, if I knew that this was what was going on, I would not have barged in. A big night of consummation after years of frustration. I mean--

Mac: You can spew your business with Billy to whoever's within earshot, but my personal business is off limits.

Chloe: We're still married, so you were with my husband, so, yeah, that's my business.

Mac: Okay. I get it. You still want Billy.

Chloe: No. No, I don’t.

Mac: You dragged Raul all the way from D.C. for some made-up emergency just so I wouldn't go near Billy, and now this. But I didn't chase your husband, Chloe. He came to me.

Chloe: Yeah, but you sent all the signals to keep him coming back to you. You didn't have the guts to say, "I want you, too." No, no, you had to say, "No, I can't do that." Yeah, play the whole "Nice girl" thing. So what is so good and pure and honest about jerking a guy around like that, and not just Billy, but Raul? 'Cause you just made a whole fuss over him, that you were in love with him, and he was the one, and now look, it's already over.

Mac: Why do you care if you don't want Billy?

Chloe: Because I love him. I love him-- all of his faults, his quirks, his--his major hang-ups. I love him. But Billy and I are never gonna be together, because I see him for who he is, and he hates it. But you look at him, and you just want to fix him. You want to heal him, like all those people in Darfur. But it's not what he needs. He doesn't need food and water and--and shelter. It's not what he needs. (Claps hands) He needs to get a grip on reality and deal with what's really going on and get that fantasy out of his head. You love him because you think that you can make him a better person. You want to change him. And I don't get it, because if you're so smart-- that's just not the way that love is.

Heather: Well, that was-- that was some hello.

Adam: (Sighs) Can you stay? Have dessert? A drink?

Heather: I would love to. I can’t. I have to get back to this brief that I'm working on.

Adam: You're going to work.

Heather: Yes, and, uh, if I didn't have a deadline, trust me, I would stay here with you all night, but this case, it's just-- I mean, I ran over here when you called and said you needed me, and I was happy to do it. Um, I was very happy, obviously.

Adam: I-I-I-I do need you, more than you know.

Heather: How do you do that?

Adam: What?

Heather: Know exactly what to say to make me love you even more.

Heather: I gotta go. Bye.

Adam: (Sighs)

(Scoffs)

Heather: Ashley.

Ashley: Hi, Heather.

Heather: Hi.

Ashley: How's Adam doing?

Heather: Uh, very well, actually. I just have a brief to get home to.

Ashley: Oh, does it have to do with my case?

Heather: The one against Estella? Um, no, it doesn't, but that's shaping up very nicely.

Ashley: (Sighs) Really? Even though some people don't think she had anything to do with the things that went on around here?

Heather: What people? Like Nikki Newman? Please. Okay, Rafe Torres-- the accused's nephew? I mean, Rafe is a very, very good lawyer, but he's letting his personal feelings obscure reality on this one. Trust me, the walls are closing in on whoever's been doing this to you.

Ashley: Thank you.

(Cell phone rings)

Adam: (Sighs) Hello?

Rafe: Hey, it's Rafe.

Adam: Hi.

Rafe: How you doing?

Adam: Fine.

Rafe: (Chuckles) That wasn't very convincing. And I think it might be my fault. You know, what I said earlier-- I'm just trying to give you space, Adam, but it might have come off as sounding detached. And what I didn't say-- the feelings you talked about, it's not just you. I feel that way, too.

Victor: Thank you. That'll be all.

Nick: So what'd you see on the M.R.I.?

Doctor: I'm afraid we, uh, can't rule out some sort of permanent brain damage.

Phyllis: Permanent?

Nick: How bad could it be?

Doctor: We won't know that for a while.

(Pager beeps)

Doctor: Uh, I'm sorry. I'm gonna have to take this. I need you both to know that I'm gonna do everything I can for your daughter. Excuse me.

Phyllis: Please, God. Our daughter has the most beautiful smile. Please let her smile again, and let her run and play and smile again. Please make sure that she knows we love her. Please. Please, God.

Nick: Please don't take our little girl.

Jack: Well, it's over now. Sharon knows who the father is.

Billy: I didn't get a phone call. Did you?

Jack: Nope.

Billy: Well, that means, uh--

Jack: It means Sharon got her wish. Nick's the father. Come to think of it, that means you got your wish, too.

Billy: Look, Jack, I'm sorry.

Jack: I'm gonna go home.

Jack: I didn't get a phone call. Did you try to call?

Sharon: I just needed to say this in person. And I knew I would find the baby's father here.

Billy: (Sighs)

Sharon: I knew that you would be here, Jack, looking for Billy, because you're a really good brother to him, and you're going to be a wonderful father.

Jack: Wait. You mean the ba-- the ba--he's--

Sharon: She’s. It's a baby girl, and you're her father.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Phyllis: Her baby? Nick, it's not even yours.

Jeff: You reimburse me and Gloria and Jill for every dime we lost.

Nina: I think Cane is involved somehow. I'm worried for Lily.
