Nikki: Oh, my God. Where is Victoria?
J.T.: She's, uh, she's being examined. She was unconscious when they brought her in.
Nikki: (Sighs) What happened?
J.T.: A stack of crates fell on top of her.
Nikki: Wha--crates? Where?
J.T.: In the alley behind Jimmy’s bar.
Nikki: What? What--what--what on earth was she doing there? J.T., talk to me. What was my daughter doing in an alley at this time of night?
Daniel: (Sighs)
Amber: So you went to this dark alley to meet this thug by yourself?
Daniel: Yeah. I was trying to fix the mess that I got myself into.
Kevin: Dude, how did you fall for a scam like that?
Daniel: This guy told me that his name was agent Howard Aucker, and he told me he was from the justice department, and he convinced me that I was helping him catch an art thief.
Amber: But instead, you got tricked into forging a famous painting.
Daniel: Yeah, a Terroni.
Amber: Terroni, spumoni-- I don't care.
Kevin: Okay--
Amber: You could've been killed.
Kevin: Okay, so now Victoria was gonna buy this for the art foundation?
Jana: (Sighs) Yeah, until she realized that the seller was a bloody crook, so then that's when she went to the feds, and then the real Aucker had to wear a wire so they could catch the guy.
Daniel: Yeah, the plan was she was gonna meet the fake Aucker in the alley behind Jimmy’s bar.
Jana: And when she handed over the money, he was gonna give her the painting, and then the feds would just swoop in and put him into custody.
Kevin: (Sighs)
Amber: Why were you there?
Daniel: I was trying to get my painting back.
Kevin: So you risked your life over a stupid painting?
Daniel: Yeah, I don't want a forgery that I've done coming back to bite me in the ass later.
Kevin: Well, so what did you--what did you think? That if you asked nicely, this jerk would just hand it back to you?
Daniel: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe I didn't think that one through, okay?
Amber: Maybe.
Daniel: Anyway, I got there before Vicki did, and I-I saw the guy, and I demanded my painting back.
Kevin: All right, well, then what happened?
Daniel: He pulled a gun on me.
Jana: Oh, bloody hell.
Daniel: No, no, no. It gets worse. He's dead.
Kevin: He's dead?
Daniel: Yeah, someone shot him.
Jana: Who?
Daniel: How the hell am I supposed to know? The guy was wearing a ski mask, all right? While the guy's laying on the ground dying, I asked him who did it, and he said it was me.
Kevin: What? What is that supposed to mean?
Daniel: How the hell am I supposed to know what that means?
Amber: Why didn't you tell me what was going on?
Kevin: Okay, you know what? We're gonna play the blame game later, but right now, the cops and the feds are probably looking for you.
Daniel: Yeah, and this is gonna be the first place that they check.
Kevin: Yeah, so we need to find somewhere safe to go until we can figure out what to do.
Amber: Um, should I pack anything?
Daniel: No, let's just go. There's no time for that.
Jana: Oh, my God.
Aucker: Going somewhere?
Paul: Okay. White wine all right?
Heather: Yes, that's, uh, that's perfect.
Paul: Good.
Heather: Thank you.
Paul: (Sighs) (Chuckles) Quite an evening. It feels good just to sit down and relax.
Heather: Ahh. So you didn't enjoy your little field trip to the police station.
Paul: Well, thanks to my connections at the department and the fact that my daughter is the assistant district attorney, they treated me pretty well.
Heather: Good to know.
Paul: Mm-hmm.
Heather: Stalking is a pretty serious charge. So what set this Ms. Benson off anyway?
Paul: Well, um, I did some digging into her past and discovered things that just, um, didn't add up. So when I confronted her, well, the next thing I knew, I was being, uh, hauled off for questioning.
Heather: Okay, my advice is to just leave this woman alone.
Paul: Yeah, well, I can't do that. She overreacted, so now I am positive she's hiding something.
Victor: Well, thank you very much for looking out after Ashley, okay?
Adam: I'm hap-- I'm happy to do it...
Victor: All right.
Adam: Especially after everything you've done for me.
Victor: Okay. Sweetheart, what's the matter? What's the matter?
[Adam remembering]
Ashley: (Gasps)
[Ashley falls down the stairs]
Adam: Oh, there's so much blood. What have--what have I done? Come here. I'm so sorry, Ashley. (Grunts) Come on. (Grunts)
Victor: Sweetheart?
Ashley: I'm okay. I just had this strange feeling. I was kind of reminded of that nightmare I had while you were away.
Victor: Oh?
Adam: Do you want some, uh, some tea, Ashley?
Ashley: Uh, yeah, actually, that's why I came down here.
Victor: Well, then why didn't you use the intercom?
Ashley: Because I can't stand to keep staring at those four walls anymore.
Victor: All right.
Adam: Uh, sounds like cabin fever to me.
Ashley: I'm okay, guys, all right? I'm not gonna break.
Victor: Well, Sweetheart, I'm sure you understand why I'm a little overprotective.
Ashley: I do. I do. The baby and I are just fine.
Victor: Okay. I certainly hope so.
Ashley: We are.
Victor: Okay.
J.T.: I should have stopped her.
Nikki: I doubt you could have. Victoria is as stubborn as her father.
(Door opens)
Nikki: Oh, Doctor, I'm Nikki Newman. I'm Victoria's mother. How is she?
Doctor: Hello. Uh, she's good. She's regained consciousness. She's alert and talking to the medical staff, isn't experiencing any signs of disorientation.
Nikki: (Sighs) Um, wh-where is she right now?
J.T.: When can we bring her home?
Doctor: Uh, well, we like to be extra cautious with head injuries, especially since she's suffered serious head trauma before.
Nikki: Can we see her?
Doctor: Uh, yeah, um, right after the C.T. scan. Uh, we're ruling out an epidural hematoma or any other brain injury.
J.T.: When will you know that for sure?
Doctor: Uh, well, it may be a while. Sit tight. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Nikki: Thank you very much.
Doctor: Mm-hmm.
Nikki: (Sighs) Oh, my God, this is like déjà vu all over again.
J.T.: Those months Victoria was in a coma-- those were the worst times in my life.
Nikki: Well, you heard the doctor. At least she's awake and talking. That's a good sign.
J.T.: Let's just pray that nothing shows up on that scan.
Nikki: (Sighs) I have to call Victor.
(Telephone rings)
Victor: Hello?
Nikki: Hey, it's me. Victoria's been in an accident.
Victor: Where is she?
Nikki: Memorial.
Victor: How badly is she hurt?
Nikki: Well, the doctor doesn't think it's serious, but she's doing a C.T. scan just to be sure.
Victor: I'll be right there.
Ashley: Who was hurt?
Victor: Victoria.
Adam: What happened?
Victor: Uh, Nikki didn't say. She's in the hospital. I'm gonna go there right now.
Ashley: Okay. Do you want me to go with you?
Victor: No, Sweetheart, you stay here.
Ashley: All right.
Victor: I want you to rest, okay?
Ashley: Okay.
Adam: Um, don't worry. I-I'll look after her.
Victor: Thank you.
Adam: (Sighs)
Aucker: Where were you tonight, Romalotti?
Daniel: I was in here working on a sketch.
Aucker: Can anyone back that up?
Daniel: It was just me.
Aucker: Then why did these three show up at Jimmy’s bar convinced that you were in the vicinity?
Daniel: I don't know.
Aucker: Uh-huh. And this young lady claims she saw your car parked nearby.
Amber: Well, no, I-I realized later that it wasn't his.
Kevin: Right. Right, and we got back here, and Daniel was waiting for us.
Daniel: Hey, Aucker, what's this all about? Did-- did you recover the painting?
Aucker: No, and making matters worse, Victoria Newman has been seriously injured.
Daniel: God.
Aucker: I'm gonna head over to the hospital right now, see if I can question her. Right now, she's the only witness in a murder investigation. Nasty word, isn't it, Romalotti?
Daniel: Well, do you think that she saw anything?
Aucker: (Scoffs) You know, it's funny, because I thought the first question you were gonna ask is, "Who was murdered?" Or did you already know?
Aucker: Who's the victim? Look familiar?
Daniel: Yeah, that's the guy who said he was you.
Aucker: And I suppose you know nothing about how the guy ended up shot to death in the alley behind Jimmy’s bar.
Daniel: No, of course not.
Aucker: The rest of you?
Kevin: This-- this is the first we're hearing about any of this.
Aucker: Mm. That's your story, and you're sticking to it, huh?
Daniel: That's the truth, Sir.
Aucker: Yeah, you're all gonna be in a lot of trouble when I prove that you're lying. And I will, because I'm a lot better at uncovering evidence than you are at hiding it.
Daniel: Well, you heard him. It's only a matter of time before they figure out I was in that alley.
Kevin: So now what? Fight or flight?
Amber: (Sighs) Look, if you want to leave town, we can do it right now.
Daniel: Your fashion designs are just starting to take off, and you're gonna give all that up for me, huh?
Amber: In a heartbeat.
Daniel: That means a lot to me. But you know what? I've run before, and all that did was get me more problems, so... besides, I didn't do anything. I mean, I got no I idea who shot that guy.
Amber: I wish you hadn't kept me in the dark.
Kevin: So do I.
Jana: Look, after everything you'd been through, I just-- I didn't want to get you involved.
Kevin: You still should have told me.
Jana: Yeah, like when you told me you were gonna go help Mrs. Chancellor, and you got yourself kidnapped by Clint Radisson?
Kevin: (Sighs) You realize, right, that you're the one who told Daniel where this sting operation was going down?
Jana: So?
Kevin: So? So that makes you an accessory after the fact-- to murder.
Daniel: Kevin, I promise, I'm not gonna let anything happen to her.
Kevin: Well, Dude, it's easy for you to say that, but you don't know what evidence the cops found or--or what Victoria knows.
Amber: You sure we shouldn't get out of dodge?
Jana: What if we tell Agent Aucker the truth?
Kevin: (Sighs) Wow, there's a novel idea.
Daniel: No. No, you know what? She's right. I gotta come clean.
Kevin: Right, and then you won't have to worry about keeping your story straight anymore.
Daniel: I'll just have to worry whether or not he'll believe me.
Paul: So I checked her social security number, her credit history, her bank history. And it's like until a couple of months ago, Mary Jane Benson didn't exist.
Heather: Now you said this investigation wasn't for one of your clients, right?
Paul: Yeah, that's right-- personal curiosity.
Heather: And why has this woman become so important to you?
Paul: Because, um, I swear, I know her from somewhere.
Heather: But you don't know where?
Paul: No.
Heather: Okay.
Paul: There's just this-- I feel a strange connection.
Heather: Right. Well, what does she say?
Paul: She claims we never met, but when I question her, her answers seem off. She contradicts herself. It's not right. I--
Heather: No, I hate it when pieces of the puzzle don't fit. I understand. I probably get my investigative gene from you.
Paul: (Chuckles) Yeah, no doubt.
Man: Paul Williams?
Paul: Yeah. Who's asking?
Man: You've been served.
Heather: (Scoffs)
Paul: (Chuckles) What is this?
Man: A restraining order.
Heather: Paul. Thanks.
Paul: Really.
Mary Jane: Yeah, and you have to stay 500 feet away from me at all times.
Paul: You have got to be kidding me.
Heather: Easy. Easy. This is only temporary until the judge can hear your side of the story.
Mary Jane: However, at this moment, it's fully in effect, and you're in violation by being here since I have a room upstairs.
Paul: (Laughs)
Paul: Okay. We'll touch base later?
Heather: Yeah. Um...
(Mouthing words)
Paul: Thanks.
Victor: An art thief in a dark alley and a briefcase full of money? How could you let Victoria get involved in something like--
J.T.: Believe me, Victor, I fought her on it.
Victor: But you should have been at her side, shouldn't you?
J.T.: And I would have been, if I hadn't had caught a prowler outside of our house on my way there and had to deal with her.
Victor: What do you mean, "With her"? A woman?
J.T.: Mary Jane Benson. She claims she's a business associate and friend of Phyllis.
Nikki: You know, the three of us were at Nicholas' place earlier. What was she doing at your house?
J.T.: She said she'd seen the ranch in "Architectural Digest" and wanted to check it out in person.
Victor: Mm-hmm. Hmm. Did someone escort her off the ranch or not?
J.T.: No, I-- I thought she was harmless, so I sent her off with a warning.
Victor: Uh-huh.
J.T.: But that was the reason that I was late to the bar. By the time I got there, Victoria had already been out in the alley.
Victor: Uh-huh. Well, you did nothing wrong, J.T. I'm gonna have to have a talk with that woman. It's important to set clear boundaries.
[Adam remembering]
Ashley: Help me!
Adam: What's wrong? What's wrong?
Ashley: Oh, thank God. It hurts so bad.
(Whimpers)
Adam: Is there--is there something I can do to help?
Ashley: Was I on the stairs? What happened? What happened?
Adam: When? You've--you've been in bed for hours.
Ashley: No, I felt like I was falling.
Adam: In your dream. You--you had another nightmare. I-I heard you yelling.
Ashley: Oh, my God. It's the baby. I'm losing the baby. Oh, no! Something's wrong with my baby. (Sobbing) Oh, no. Oh.
Adam: You dreamed that you fell down the stairs. You--you dreamed that you were in another nightgown, just like you dreamed you saw Sabrina.
Ashley: You reached your hand out to me. You tried to catch me.
Adam: In your dream. In your dream.
Ashley: No. No. No.
Adam: (Sighs) Okay, l-listen, you talked to me, right? You--right before you went to bed, we--we talked. Now wouldn't it make sense that--that you might dream about me? Doesn't it?
Ashley: No, none of this makes any sense to me. I don't know what's happening.
Adam: Do you mind if I play "Dr. Freud" for a minute?
Ashley: (Sighs) You think I need a shrink now, too?
Adam: Dreams about falling are very common, all right? Now it means that you're feeling anxious or insecure. Sabrina lost Victor's baby. Now it-- it--it makes sense that-- that she would be on your mind. So you take these fears. You--you take these insecurities to bed with you, and you have a dream that's so frightening that-- that when you wake up, you actually experience physical pain. Now you asked me to explain to you what I-- what I thought happened tonight. (Sighs) As disturbing as this may feel, I really think that's it, Ash.
Ashley: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe. It just seemed so real.
Ashley: Hey, Adam, tea and cinnamon toast. Do you want some?
Adam: I should be waiting on you.
Ashley: Yes, you should be. When it comes to boiling hot water, I think eyesight's pretty important.
Adam: (Chuckles) Well, I hope Victoria's all right.
Ashley: I know. I wish Victor would call. Oh!
Adam: You okay?
Ashley: Yeah. The baby just kicked. Do you feel that?
(Laughs)
Adam: (Chuckles nervously) Yeah.
Ashley: (Giggles)
Aucker: How do you feel?
Victoria: (Sighs) I feel like I got hit over the head with a bunch of heavy crates.
Aucker: (Chuckles) Do you feel like, uh, well, are you up to answering a few questions?
Victoria: I guess so.
Aucker: What-- what happened in that alley?
Victoria: (Sighs) I called out for Thomas Balfour, or whatever his name was.
Aucker: Did he answer you?
Victoria: No. But then I heard someone running away, so I went further into the alley, and that's when I saw his body lying there.
Aucker: And what did you do?
Victoria: I tried to get away. (Sighs) So I guess I turned into the crates, and I-I-I don't know. I got knocked out.
Aucker: Did you see anyone else in the alley?
Victoria: No, just J.T., who'd come looking for me.
Aucker: That briefcase of money that you were carrying disappeared.
Victoria: I dropped it when I saw the body.
Aucker: There was obviously someone else there. Probably the same person who took the money killed the thief. But--but you didn't see anyone else other than your husband?
Victoria: (Sighs) I'm sorry. Listen, I-I can't remember anything, okay?
Nikki: Oh, Honey.
Victoria: Hi, Mom.
Victor: Excuse me. Who are you? What are you doing with my daughter?
Aucker: Agent Howard Aucker, department of justice. Just interviewing the witness.
Victor: This is not the time for the interview. She's not feeling well enough, all right? J.T., would you kindly escort this gentleman out?
J.T.: Gladly.
Victor: All right.
Nikki: Oh, don't be sorry, Sweetheart.
Victor: My Sweetheart.
Victoria: Hi.
Victor: How are you feeling?
Victoria: Well, the doc says I'll live, so...
Nikki: Oh, does it hurt?
Victoria: No, just only when I breathe.
Nikki: Oh, Honey.
Victor: Do you need anything? Can I get you anything?
Victoria: I'd like some water.
Victor: You would?
Victoria: Mm.
Victor: Well, right here. There we are. Sweetheart, there we go.
Victoria: Thank you, Dad.
Victor: (Sighs) Have you told Nicholas about this, or...
Victoria: Oh, don't bother Nicholas. No, I-I'll call him tomorrow. He's got enough going on.
Nikki: Okay, whatever you want.
Victor: Well, listen, when you're feeling better, you and I will have a discussion about you gallivanting around dark alleys with strange men.
Victoria: (Chuckles)
J.T.: I don't want you anywhere near my wife, you got that?
Aucker: (Sighs) This is a federal investigation, Mr. Hellstrom. You cannot keep me from talking to her.
J.T.: You're the reason she's in there, all right? You got her involved in this sting, and you didn't do enough to protect her.
Aucker: Things went unexpectedly, and I am very sorry that your wife was injured.
J.T.: You're sorry? You're gonna know what that word means if you ever show your face around her again.
(Cell phone rings)
Aucker: What is it, Romalotti? Well, I'm on way back to Jimmy’s to talk to the C.S.I. people. I'll see you there.
Dr. Taylor: What's so urgent you had to drag me out of bed?
Adam: How about a woman who feels a baby kicking when there is no baby?
Dr. Taylor: What?
Adam: Yeah, Ashley swears that she feels her kid moving.
Dr. Taylor: (Scoffs) That's impossible. She had a miscarriage.
Adam: Well, could you be wrong?
Dr. Taylor: I examined her. She lost the baby.
Adam: All right, well, then how do you--
Dr. Taylor: Most likely, she's having a hysterical pregnancy.
Adam: She thinks she's--
Dr. Taylor: (Sighs) Her mind has convinced her she's still pregnant, and now her body is helping to support that delusion by giving her signs of life.
Adam: How far will this go?
Dr. Taylor: Her belly may expand. She could stop having periods. In rare cases, women actually experience hysterical birth.
Adam: Unbelievable.
Dr. Taylor: Can you imagine how traumatic this will be if she goes all the way to delivery and then finds out there is no baby?
Adam: Oh, okay. What--what can we do?
Dr. Taylor: Not "We," Adam. You. You have got to stop this before it goes any farther.
Ashley: Dr. Taylor. What are you doing here? Is everything okay?
Dr. Taylor: Yes, I-I was hoping you'd still be up, Ms. Abbott. I just stopped by for a follow-up. I thought it might reassure you.
Ashley: That is so incredibly sweet. Thank you very much.
Adam: (Sighs)
Nikki: I wish they'd hurry with those test results.
Victor: Yeah.
Paul: Hey, hi.
Nikki: Oh, Paul.
Victor: Hey, Paul.
Paul: Victor.
Victor: Nice to see you.
Paul: How's Vicki?
Nikki: Um, she seems fine.
Paul: "Seems"?
Nikki: Well, they won't know for sure until they get the results of her C.T. scan.
Paul: Oh, okay. Well, uh, I'm sorry I didn't get here sooner. I got waylaid.
Nikki: What do you mean by "Waylaid"?
Paul: Well, I told Mary Jane Benson that, uh, I checked into her finances, and, uh, well, I thought they looked pretty suspicious.
Nikki: Oh, I'll bet she loved that.
Paul: So much so, she tried to have me arrested for stalking and harassment.
Victor: Hmm.
Nikki: What? That is crazy.
Paul: Yeah, well, the police questioned me and let me go, but, uh, a short time after that, I was slapped with a restraining order.
Nikki: (Scoffs)
Victor: Really? Second time I've heard that woman's name in the last hour.
Paul: Yeah, well, I'm beginning to wish I'd never heard it.
Victor: Yeah. What are you going to do? She obviously is a nuisance.
Paul: Well, I-- mm.
Nikki: Dr. Ellsworth, any news?
J.T.: I called home, and Gabby said she'll spend the night if we need her, okay?
Victoria: Well, that's a relief.
(Door opens)
Victoria: (Sighs) What's the verdict, huh?
Dr. Ellsworth: You have a concussion-- nothing life-threatening.
Victoria: Aw, see? I told you.
J.T.: If you ever think about doing something that dangerous again, and...
(Sighs)
Victoria: I won’t.
Daniel: Okay, look, the, uh, reason I wanted to see you was I lied before.
Aucker: So you were in the alley?
Daniel: (Whispers) Yeah.
Aucker: Why?
Daniel: Well, I knew that your poseur was trying to sell my forgery to Victoria, and that he was trying to pass it off as the real thing.
Aucker: And how'd you find out?
Jana: Um, I told him. I was there when the criminal approached Victoria.
Daniel: Yeah, look, I just thought that if I could get there before Victoria, that I-I could get the painting and then I could just burn the damn thing.
Kevin: Jana begged him to let the authorities handle things.
Daniel: But I didn’t. I--
Aucker: Why didn't you?
Kevin: Because he has a Superman complex.
Daniel: No, look, I got freaked out, all right? You started talking about me taking a lie detector test, and--and I just knew that I was in way too far over my head.
Aucker: Oh, I get it. So you told your accomplice you wanted out.
Daniel: He's not my accomplice.
Aucker: And he said no, and you killed him.
Daniel: Oh, no, no, no, no. You're way off base here.
Aucker: Maybe you fought a little. He came at you, and it was self-defense, right?
Daniel: Look, man, I didn't kill anybody.
Aucker: Then how did that guy get shot?
Daniel: I-I-I got there, and I insisted that he give me the painting, all right? He refused, and he pulled a gun on me. And--and then, uh, we--we--we heard footsteps.
Aucker: Whose?
Daniel: I don't know. The guy was wearing a ski mask. But then he jumped your imposter, and the two of them, they went at it.
Aucker: Hmm. What happened then?
Daniel: The gun went off. The gun went off, and the guy that we formerly knew as Agent Aucker, he bit the bullet.
Kevin: So to speak.
Aucker: It's a fascinating story. There's just one problem.
Daniel: What's the problem?
Aucker: We found the gun, and I believe that ballistics will confirm that it's the murder weapon.
Amber: Well, then that's great. Then you can check it for fingerprints.
Aucker: We already did. Guess whose are on it?
Kevin: Whose?
Aucker: Your friend Daniel.
Daniel: Okay, I can explain that.
Aucker: Please do.
Daniel: After the gun went off, the guy in the ski mask, he dropped it, okay? And then he ducked out of sight, and then your imposter, he was laying on the ground, and--and he rolled over and made a move, and I thought he was gonna grab the gun, and I thought he was gonna shoot me, so I-I grabbed it. I picked it up and I threw it out of there, but I never fired the damn thing.
Aucker: Why should I believe you?
Daniel: (Scoffs) I don't know, man. I-I'll take that lie detector test you wanted me to take.
Aucker: Mm. Well, tell me about the briefcase.
Daniel: I don't know about a briefcase, okay? That happened, and I got out of there as fast as I could, I swear.
Jana: Look, Daniel is a very honest person.
Aucker: Really? 'Cause I-I, uh, I pulled your police report. A couple years ago, you were charged with vehicular manslaughter?
Daniel: Okay, that was a mistake.
Aucker: Mm. Why'd you run?
Kevin: Hey, did you read the part--
Daniel: 'Cause I was a kid, and I was scared.
Kevin: Did you read the part where it said that he was innocent?
Aucker: And there was the suspicious death of a guy named Plum and the disappearance of a lot of money.
Amber: You're making Daniel sound like a criminal.
Aucker: Yeah, well, forgive me if I don't take too much stock in the, uh, silver chipmunk and his gun moll and an accused murderer. Look, man. Look. Bottom line-- two guys went into that alley. One guy is dead. Your fingerprints are on the murder weapon, and 100 grand and a Terroni forgery have just disappeared into thin air. Now you gotta admit, that's pretty damn suspicious.
Dr. Ellsworth: Well, as long as you follow the necessary precautions, I see no reason why you can't sleep in your own bed tonight.
Victoria: (Sighs)
Victor: Thank you, Doctor.
Dr. Ellsworth: You're welcome, Mr. Newman. I'll have your discharge papers drawn up.
Victor: Thank you.
J.T.: That's great.
Victoria: Now would you two please go home and just get some sleep?
Victor: My sweetheart, I will call you tomorrow, okay?
Victoria: Thank you, Dad.
Victor: And I'm so glad you're well.
Victoria: Thank you.
Nikki: All right, I love you, baby.
Victoria: I love you, Mom.
Nikki: Take it easy.
Victoria: Okay, I will.
Nikki: Good night, you two.
J.T.: Good night.
Paul: You go ahead, and I'll catch up with you, all right?
Nikki: Okay. Okay.
Paul: So are you feeling okay, kiddo?
Victoria: Yeah, thanks. I think I'll be leaving the criminals to you from now on.
Paul: (Chuckles)
J.T.: (Chuckles)
Nikki: Victor, how is Ashley?
Victor: Fine.
Nikki: Are you sure?
Victor: What do you mean, "Am I sure"?
Nikki: Well, um, last night, I saw her in the woods talking to Sabrina’s statue.
Victor: Oh. Yeah, well, maybe she finds that therapeutic.
Nikki: Maybe.
Victor: Mm.
Nikki: But, um, some pretty strange things happened while you were gone.
Victor: What do you mean? What strange things?
Nikki: Well, we had some storms that caused a few blackouts, and Victoria called me and asked to go check on Ashley. When I got there, nobody answered the door. I ended up letting myself in with my old key.
Victor: You mean nobody was there? Where was everyone?
Nikki: Well, Adam claimed to be alone. He said that Ashley had gone out with Jack, but later on, I saw Jack at the club, and he was not with Ashley.
Victor: Well, maybe Adam thought that Ashley had gone out by herself.
Nikki: That's what he said this morning when I went back to check. But why wouldn't either of them answer the door?
Victor: Where was the maid?
Nikki: Adam gave her the night off.
Victor: He did?
Nikki: And then this other doctor who I've never seen before comes this morning to examine Ashley.
Victor: What other doctor? You mean it wasn't Olivia?
Nikki: No, no. It was some friend of Adam's, apparently, from Harvard-- a Dr. Taylor.
Victor: Who the hell is Dr. Taylor? Did you stay there during the exam, or what?
Nikki: Yes, of course I did. Fortunately, Ashley and the baby are fine.
Victor: Well, I'm gonna have that man checked out. Dr. Taylor.
Nikki: Yeah, but listen. I-I-it's more than just the doctor. It--it's Adam. I-I mean, I-I feel for him. I-it's awful that he's blind, but there's something about him that I just don't trust, Victor. I don't know what it is, but I just can't shake the feeling that something was not right in that house last night.
Victor: Yeah. I'm gonna check it out.
Ashley: Is everything okay?
Dr. Taylor: Exactly as it should be.
Ashley: Oh, that's great news. I can't wait for you to meet Victor.
Dr. Taylor: I think I'll have that coffee that you offered me earlier.
Ashley: Oh, yeah? Okay, cream and sugar or...
Dr. Taylor: Uh, no. Just black, thank you.
Ashley: Okay, coming right up.
Dr. Taylor: Victor Newman. If he finds out what I've done, he'll squash me like a bug.
Adam: Hey, you forget about my father, all right? If you don't continue to do what I say, I'll ruin your career. Your reputation, your life will go down the toilet.
Paul: All right.
Nikki: Thank you.
Paul: Quite a night, huh?
Nikki: Thank God Victoria's okay.
Paul: Yeah, I know. She's a lucky girl.
Nikki: Are you all right?
Paul: What, you mean the restraining order? It adds spice to my life.
Nikki: I still can't believe that that woman was able to convince a judge to issue it.
Paul: (Chuckles) Yeah, I know what you mean. She's quite an actress, huh?
Nikki: I hope you'll let it go now.
Paul: Well, I wish I could.
Nikki: You're gonna keep digging?
Paul: Well, it is what I do.
Nikki: Paul, please be careful. I don't want to be married to a convict.
Paul: Well, they get conjugal visits.
Nikki: I mean it.
Paul: (Chuckles) I'm not gonna violate my restraining order. Don't worry about that. But I am more determined than ever to figure out why Mary Jane Benson gets freaked out every time I'm around.
Mary Jane: Why can't you just leave it alone, Paul?
(Sighs)
Mary Jane: I-I can't do it.
Mary Jane: I just can't do it. I don't want to be enemies with you.
Aucker: Thanks for checking. (Sighs) That was the hospital. Victoria Newman-- she's gonna be fine.
Jana: (Sighs) Oh, thank God.
Aucker: Yeah, but you're not off the hook. I'm gonna be watching you. And don't even think about leaving town.
Daniel: Why would I? Look, I'm telling you the truth.
Aucker: For your sake, I hope so. And if any of that cash comes into your possession, you're gonna go away for a long, long time.
Daniel: (Sighs)
[Man at bar takes the suitcase and puts in the storage room]
Kevin: That is one intimidating dude.
Daniel: Yeah, well, I told him the truth, so there's nothing to worry about.
Amber: Mm, famous last words.
Kevin: (Sighs)
Jana: What happened to all that money?
Daniel: Who cares? You know, I never saw it, let alone lay a hand on it. It's not our problem.
Dr. Ellsworth: Have Victoria follow these instructions, and don't be surprised if your wife isn't quite her usual self for the next couple of days.
J.T.: I got it. Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate it.
Dr. Ellsworth: Okay. Any questions or problems, don't hesitate to call.
J.T.: Okay.
Victoria: (Sighs)
J.T.: You ready?
Victoria: Pardon my French, but, uh, let's get the hell out of here.
J.T.: I got it.
Ashley: She's so lucky it was just a mild concussion.
Victor: (Sighs) Very lucky. They even allowed her to go home.
Ashley: Wow.
Adam: Well, I'm sure you're very relieved.
Victor: I am, indeed. By the way, Nikki tells me that something rather odd happened last night when she was here.
Adam: What did she say?
Victor: She claims she came to look for Ashley, and you told her that Ashley had gone out with her brother.
Adam: Well, I thought that she had.
Victor: Huh.
Ashley: Well, Jack was here, and he wanted me to leave with him. I-I guess Adam thought I changed my mind.
Victor: Hmm. Okay, so the nightmare really upset you, right?
Ashley: Yeah. It was just very real.
Victor: But you mentioned it to me only in passing.
Ashley: Because I didn't want to worry you.
Victor: But, Sweetheart, you didn't tell me about your cramps, either.
Ashley: Well, Adam found a doctor, so it all worked out.
Victor: Why didn't you call Olivia?
Adam: Hey, I wanted to.
Ashley: (Chuckles) Adam did not do anything wrong. He was a Godsend.
Victor: All right.
Ashley: And Dr. Taylor is-- he's terrific.
Victor: Hmm. Well, I want to meet this doctor, all right? Judge for myself.
Ashley: Well, you will.
Victor: Okay.
Ashley: But now I'm gonna go to bed, okay?
Victor: Okay, Sweetheart.
Ashley: Mm, good night.
Victor: I'll be there soon, okay?
Ashley: Okay. Oh, by the way, the baby kicked today.
Victor: It did?
Ashley: Yes.
Victor: Oh, I'm sorry I missed it, my baby.
Ashley: Well, there'll be lots more times. Good night. Good night, Adam.
Victor: I'll be there.
Adam: Good night. Uh, I think I'm gonna turn in myself.
Victor: No, hold on for a minute. Um, Nikki also told me that you gave bonnie the night off.
Adam: Um, yeah. I didn't see any reason for her to stick around. Plus, sh-she just got married.
Victor: Mm-hmm. I'm sure you meant to be kind. But for your information, I don't want you and Ashley to be alone in this house, okay?
Adam: (Scoffs) Any particular reason why?
Victor: Ashley's very fragile, and you can't see, so I want someone to be here at all times in case you need help, all right?
Adam: Sorry, Victor, we're gonna do things my way now.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Mac: What's wrong with Sharon? Is the baby okay?
Chloe: Billy, do you want to break the news, or should I?
Nick: We're gonna get through this, and we'll get through it together. I promise you that. This time, it's for keeps.
Mary Jane: I could watch her. That's too strange. I would never let my daughter be watched by a stranger.
