Victoria: No, I never heard of the guy. He, uh, he said he's an art dealer, and that he has a piece I might be interested in. Yeah, here. Tonight. I know. It seemed odd to me, too, with the power out.

(Knock on door)

Victoria: Oh, you know what? That's him. Um, I'm gonna try to stall until you get here, okay? Bye.

Victoria: Hi. Come in, please.

Man: Oh, thank you.

Victoria: Uh, be careful. The power's out. (Sighs) I'm Victoria Newman.

Thomas: Thomas Balfour. Pleasure to meet you, Miss Newman.

Daniel: Look, I've been through these mug shots twice. The guy who tricked me into doing that painting, he--he's not in here.

Aucker: You're sure?

Daniel: Yeah, I'm positive. Do you have any other pictures that I could take a look at? I mean, I really would like to catch this guy, and I'm sure you would, too. I mean, he's going around pretending to be you.

Aucker: It adds an interesting twist.

Daniel: Kind of creeps me out thinking what he might be doing with the picture since he stole it from me. Uh, did you--did you try the, uh, the phone number, the disconnected line?

Aucker: It's a dead end. There's no--no tracking it. I mean, the--the guy's a pro. And from the statements you gave me, it sounds like, uh, he played you just right.

Daniel: Well, I totally believed he was from the feds, you know, until that last phone call right before this place got ransacked. He just--he sounded weird and--and-- just different on the phone. You know, he never sounded like that before.

Aucker: And you said he threatened your friends?

Daniel: Yeah, and--and Amber, too. She's off at some fashion thing, thank God. You know, I don't want her to see what a moron I've been. Wh-what do we do next? I mean, what's the next step to try and catch this guy?

Aucker: I'd like you to submit to a polygraph test.

Adam: Ashley?

(Knock on door)

Nikki: Ashley, its Nikki. Are you there?

Adam: Ashley, please wake up. Wake up. Wake up.

(Pounding on door)

Nikki: Will somebody please answer this door? I need to check on Ashley. Let me in! (Sighs) Damn it, where is my phone?

Adam: Oh, my God. Okay, come on. Oh, there's so much blood. What have--what have I done? Come here. I'm so sorry, Ashley. Oh, come on.

Nick: This feels so right being here with you.

Sharon: Mm. Yeah, it really does. It's amazing.

Nick: There's no more hiding, no more being ashamed, no need to explain. We're just together, the way it was always supposed to be.

Sharon: Am I dreaming? Is this really happening?

Nick: Let's find out.

Phyllis: Wow. (Sighs) That was surprising.

Jack: Any regrets?

Phyllis: Oh, well, I have many regrets in life, you know?

Jack: I meant about what just happened.

Phyllis: I know. No way. You?

Jack: No way. Wow. Who'd have figured this afternoon that both of our lives would blow up like this?

Phyllis: Yeah, right? You know, I-I gave it a good try. Jack, I gave it a-a good try, but, um, it wasn't enough. I-I wasn't enough.

Jack: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Don't talk like that.

Phyllis: No. No, it's true. It's true. My husband left me for another woman.

Jack: Yeah, my woman. You don't see me crying and carrying on, do you?

Phyllis: I'm not crying and carrying on. What's your point?

Jack: My point is, I'm still holding out hope that this isn't over yet for either of us. I know things look bleak, but we don't know how it's gonna turn out.

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Mary Jane: (Breathing heavily)

Mary Jane: So you're after Jack now, too? Big mistake. You have no idea who you're dealing with, not the first teeny, tiny little bit.

Victoria: For several hours now.

Thomas: Quite a lightning storm we're having.

Victoria: You know, normally, I don't conduct Newman foundation business in my home late at night, Mr. Balfour. But your phone call intrigued me. So let's see the painting.

Thomas: Um, first, I-I'm gonna need some assurances from you.

Victoria: What kind of assurances?

Thomas: Should you decide not to make the purchase, then you won't say anything about me, this meeting, and certainly nothing about the painting to anyone.

Victoria: I'm sorry, but the Newman foundation doesn't operate under a shroud of secrecy, Mr. Balfour.

Thomas: Well, my client, uh, demands strict privacy.

(Knock on door)

Victoria: Uh, that's a colleague of mine I invited. She's very knowledgeable in modern art. She's also extremely trustworthy, so if you'd like to set up on that easel...

Thomas: All--all right.

Victoria: Come on in.

Jana: Oh, hi.

Victoria: Uh, Mr. Balfour was just about to show me the piece that he has for sale.

Jana: (Sighs)

Thomas: One of Terroni's masterworks. It's emblematic of all--

Daniel: He bought all of my sketches, and then he said that he was from the department of justice and that he needed my help.

Aucker: Did you check his credentials?

Daniel: Yeah, I called the department of justice and asked if there was an Aucker working there.

Jana: (Sighs) It was obviously you.

Daniel: He wanted me to help him locate stolen art by forging a Terroni painting.

Victoria: Why would you think for one moment that the Newman foundation would buy stolen property?

Daniel: You want to give me a lie detector test, fine. You know what? I got nothing to hide.

Aucker: I appreciate your cooperation.

Daniel: Well, yeah. You appreciate my cooperation. I'm telling you the truth. I got ripped off, and I don't know how you can sit here and think that I had something to do with it somehow.

Aucker: You do realize that you are the only person who's actually met this alleged imposter.

Daniel: No, that-- that's not true. Amber met him, and so did Jana.

Aucker: Two friends trying to protect you. This guy's got no mug shot, no way to I.D. him. It's pretty convenient.

Daniel: You're kidding me, right?

Aucker: You also claim that he broke into your apartment, but nothing was stolen.

Daniel: He stole a painting. Oh. (Chuckles) I get it. I-I forge a painting. I call. I report it stolen. And then when someone pays a fortune for it, I'm in the clear, right?

Aucker: As good a theory as any. Look, you have my card. Call my assistant. You set up that polygraph, and then we'll talk.

Adam: (Sighs)

(Telephone rings)

Nikki: Hello? Did somebody pick up? Is anyone there? It's Nikki calling. Victoria asked me to check on Ashley, and I'm a little concerned since nobody's answering. Look, I have my key, so I'm just gonna let myself in, make sure she's okay.

Nikki: Ashley? Are you here?

Adam: Nikki?

Nikki: (Gasps) Oh, Adam, you startled me. I have been knocking on that door until my knuckles are raw. I just decided to let myself in.

Adam: Uh, I'm sorry about that. I-I was upstairs asleep. The phone woke me up. I heard your message, I came right down.

Nikki: Well, then you know why I'm here. I need to see Ashley.

Adam: Jack, uh, took her to dinner because of the power outage. Um, I had a sandwich, turned in early.

Nikki: Oh. Well, um, can you just let her know that I stopped by to check on her?

Adam: Yeah, uh, will do.

Nikki: Okay. Sorry to wake you.

Adam: That's okay.

Adam: Oh, my God. There's so much blood. (Sighs) Ashley, I just-- I'm so sorry. You didn't deserve this. (Grunts) God. (Sighs) But Victor did, and your jerk of a brother.

Ashley: Help me! Somebody, please help me.

Sharon: What are you thinking?

Nick: I was just thinking that I cannot wait to start our new life together with our baby.

Sharon: Nicholas.

Nick: Don't, don't, don't, don’t. Don't ask me how, but I know it's mine, and it's a little girl, just like Cassie predicted.

Sharon: If only things could be that simple.

Nick: We'll get through what we need to get through, all right? We're together, and that's all that matters.

Sharon: You know, as happy as I am right now, I-I-I can't help thinking about Phyllis, and, you know, I've been in her shoes before. This is gonna be really hard on her and Summer.

Nick: I-I know. I hate it that she's suffering. But to go on pretending that-- that we had this marriage when my heart was still committed to you, I-- I know Phyllis. It would have hurt her so much more.

Nick: Did I say something wrong?

Sharon: No, just-- talking about Phyllis made me think about Jack.

Nick: Yeah, Jack was really there for you when I couldn't be. I'll always be grateful to him for that.

Sharon: You know, he loved me during a really hellish time of my life. So I need to be honest with him about what's going on between us. I owe him at least that much.

Phyllis: Thank you b-- for being here for me.

Jack: Any time. You're a wonderful woman. You are. And Nick's an idiot if he doesn't see that. I'm just hoping he's gonna finally come to his senses and realize that.

Phyllis: (Sighs) You're an incredible man. So what are you gonna do?

Jack: I'm gonna fight for Sharon. I suggest you do the same thing for Nick, unless you've had it with his immaturity and don't want to do that anymore. Hey, come here.

Jack: Call me if you need me.

(Door closes)

Phyllis: (Exhales) (Sighs)

[Phyllis remembering]

Nick: We made it, and I cannot wait to share my life with you, from this day forward, for as long as we both shall live.

Phyllis: "As long as we both shall live."

Victoria: Do you think I'm stupid, Mr. Balfour? That I wouldn't recognize this Terroni? It was stolen ten years ago from the Sheffer Museum outside of Pittsburgh.

Jana: Victoria, I suggest that we phone the police.

Victoria: Yeah, that was my thought exactly.

Thomas: That'd be a mistake.

Victoria: For you and your client, I'm sure it would be.

Thomas: Listen, your foundation in recovering stolen art, that's why I'm here, Miss Newman. I know this painting's provenance.

Victoria: I'm listening.

Thomas: I want to see this painting back in a museum, so the public can see it again and enjoy it. But if you call the police, it's just gonna end up underground, never to see the light of day. But with your help, your foundation's support, we can make sure that doesn't happen. Now my client is willing to let this go for-- for far less than it's worth, pennies on the dollar. Think of all the good you can do. Your foundation will be a hero.

Victoria: I need to think.

Thomas: (Whispers) You say one word about this painting being a forgery, I'll make sure that your friend Daniel never picks up a brush again.

Jana: (Sighs)

Thomas: You read me?

Victoria: I'll buy it, but, uh, what's your price?

Thomas: Well, it's worth at least a million, maybe more, but my client's willing to sell it for 10 cents on the dollar.

Victoria: $100,000?

Thomas: Cash.

Victoria: That's a lot of money.

Thomas: The offer's only good for tonight. But if you're not interested, somebody else will be.

Jana: (Clears throat) I think you should buy it, Victoria.

Victoria: Why do you think that?

Jana: Well, um, I've been to the Sheffer-- lovely museum. Uh, it's the saddest thing, though. I mean, they've left the empty frame just hanging there still on the wall. It's as if it's waiting for the painting to return. I think it would be a wonderful gesture for the Newman foundation if you restored it back to its proper place.

Victoria: All right, why don't you leave it here, and I'll have one of our curators examine it.

Thomas: Uh, under the circumstances, that's impossible. The painting stays with me.

Victoria: Fine. I'll make the deal.

Mary Jane: My, my. I was hoping I would bump into you.

Jack: Yeah, I was driving around. I didn't feel like going home yet.

Mary Jane: A chardonnay for me, and the gentleman will have another on my room, please.

Jack: Unh-unh. Yeah, I guess it wouldn't hurt.

Mary Jane: You're welcome. I'm surprised you're out on a night like this.

Jack: Yeah, a lot going on.

Mary Jane: Well, I have a lot going on, too. I, uh--thank you-- was thinking about heading home.

Jack: Big loss for Jabot.

Mary Jane: That's not a firm decision. I was just pondering it.

Jack: Well, let me know what you decide, okay?

Mary Jane: Is--is there something wrong, Jack?

Jack: I've had kind of a rough day.

Mary Jane: Is there anything I can do?

Jack: It helps just to see a friendly face.

Mary Jane: I have an idea. Why don't we take our drinks to my room, and you can have my friendly face all to yourself, hmm?

Jack: Lead the way.

Ashley: Adam! Is somebody there? Please help me! (Sobs) Help me! Adam!

Adam: Ash? Ash, what's wrong? What's wrong?

Ashley: Oh, thank God. It hurts so bad.

(Whimpers)

Adam: Is there--is there something I can do to help?

Ashley: Was I on the stairs? What happened? What happened?

Adam: When? You've--you've been in bed for hours.

Ashley: No, I felt like I was falling.

Adam: In your dream. You--you had another nightmare. I-I heard you yelling.

Ashley: Oh, my God. It's the baby. I'm losing the baby. Oh, no! Something's wrong with my baby. (Sobbing) Oh, no. Oh.

Ashley: Oh, God. This is--there's no way this is a dream, Adam. It wouldn't be hurting this bad.

Adam: L-look, sometimes, the body reacts like--like-- like dreams are real, okay?

Ashley: (Moaning)

Adam: That's-- that's all this is, I promise. I swear, you haven't moved from this bed.

Ashley: (Moans) But--but I-it feels like...

Adam: Ash, Ash, you were just as--at the hospital, remember? Right?

Ashley: Yeah.

Adam: The doctor said everything checked out perfectly, right?

Ashley: Yeah.

Adam: Okay, you're fine. You're fine. Everything's fine.

Ashley: Okay. Okay, maybe you're right. It just felt so real.

Adam: O-okay, I'll call someone-- Olivia...

Ashley: No.

Adam: Just to be on the safe side.

Ashley: Don't call Olivia. Please, I don't--I just don't want to talk to her right now. Please, don't call her. Please.

Adam: Oh, okay. Okay. Uh, a g-guy I went to Harvard with. He's a specialist, all right?

Ashley: Okay.

Adam: I can call him in the morning. He'll be here. He'll check you out. Everything will be fine.

Ashley: Okay, okay. We'll discuss it then, all right? Right now, I just...

Adam: You need to get some rest.

Ashley: (Exhales) Yeah, I think--

Adam: All right, just lay down. If you need me, call, okay?

Ashley: I need to get some rest. Okay. Thanks, Adam. (Sighs) It's just a dream. It's just a dream.

Phyllis: Hey, Daniel.

Daniel: Hey.

Phyllis: Hey.

Daniel: I just, uh, let myself in when you didn't hear me knock. You okay?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: Are you crying?

Phyllis: No, no, no, no, no, no.

Phyllis: Nick left me. He went back to Sharon.

Daniel: (Scoffs) Really?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. (Sighs) He packed his bag, and he left. He lives at the Athletic Club now.

Daniel: (Pats Phyllis' hand) I'm sorry.

Phyllis: Aw, it's okay. It's completely fine. I'm fine. Don't worry about it. Hey, you know?

Phyllis: (Whispering) My marriage is over. I don't want it to be over.

Daniel: (Chuckles)

(Sighs)

Daniel: You know, if Amber left me for another guy, and I was totally heartbroken, what would you say to me?

Phyllis: (Sniffles)

Daniel: Besides I'm better off without her?

Phyllis: Yes.

Daniel: Yes.

Phyllis: 'Cause I would say that.

(Laughs)

Daniel: Yes, you would say that. You would tell me to fight. You would tell me to fight, and you'd tell me to not give up until I made things right.

Phyllis: So you're giving me my own advice? Is that what you're doing?

Daniel: You look pretty upset to me. You and Nick, you belong to each other. You belong with each other. So if that's what you want, I think maybe you should fight for him.

Phyllis: When you're right, you're right. And you're right.

Daniel: (Chuckles)

Mary Jane: Do you want me to freshen your drink?

Jack: Uh, no. Listen, uh, about this article you've been pitching, I--

Mary Jane: No, no, no. No business talk. Tonight, I want to play a game.

Jack: Oh?

Mary Jane: I want us to just relax and have fun, huh? Forget about the outside world.

Jack: Forget about the outside world. Okay. I'm in. What are the rules of this game?

Mary Jane: Just listen very carefully, hmm?

Mary Jane: You sit here.

Jack: I think I like this game already. Uh, what now? Wait, uh--

Mary Jane: And now I'm in control.

Jack: (Groans)

Mary Jane: You're not.

Jack: Um, okay, this is blindman's bluff, right?

Mary Jane: Oh, I think we can come up with something much more interesting, don't you?

Jack: (Sighs) Um--

Mary Jane: Shh... do you trust me, Jack?

Jack: I don't think I have much choice here, do I? Mary Jane? Wha-- whoa, wha-what's that?

Mary Jane: Shh. Don't move. Just experience.

Jack: (Gasps)

Mary Jane: I hope that wasn't one of your favorites.

(Scissors clatter)

Jack: So who won that game?

Mary Jane: I would say you did. Now time for your prize.

Jack: No more sharp objects?

Mary Jane: Only if you beg me.

Jack: Well, in that case...

Victoria: It's gonna take a little time to put the money together.

Thomas: You have 24 hours.

Victoria: I'm sure you won't mind if I bring an assessor when we make the exchange. I have to tell my board that I had the piece properly examined.

Thomas: Uh, of course not. Just make sure you have the money in full in cash.

Victoria: Tomorrow night, then. What time can I expect you?

Thomas: Uh, actually, not here. I want to, uh, meet in the alley behind Jimmy's tavern, and no police. If I see anyone there that doesn't look right to me, deal's off, and you'll never hear from me again.

Victoria: Agreed.

Thomas: Good night.

Victoria: Good night. Could that guy be any more of a con artist if he tried?

Jana: (Sighs) I don't know. I mean, he could be legit, Victoria.

Victoria: (Scoffs) Are you serious? I'm going to the feds with this.

Mary Jane: Are you sure you can't stay?

Jack: Not this time.

Mary Jane: Meaning, uh, there'll be others?

Jack: My life is kind of complicated right now.

Mary Jane: And here I was thinking maybe I should stick around town after all.

Jack: Look, don't change any of your plans on my account. I mean, this was fun, but I don't want to keep you from doing anything that's really important to you.

Mary Jane: I-I-I would be more than willing to change my plans, and this-- this was more than just fun, Jack.

Jack: Well, we got a big day at the salt mines tomorrow. I'll, uh, I'll see you then?

Mary Jane: Hey, what's your rush? Hmm? Uh, I-it's not that late, and we can have another drink.

Jack: I think two's my limit.

Jack: I'll see you.

(Door closes)

Mary Jane: (Groans) (Sighs)

Ashley: It wasn't a dream.

Adam: What are you doing out of bed?

Ashley: (Gasps) (gasps) I fell down those stairs. It wasn't a dream. It was real, and you were there.

Adam: (Scoffs) I was?

Ashley: Yes, you... and Sabrina. I-I was wearing a different nightgown. What's happening?

Ashley: What have you done to me?

Victoria: A forgery. Why am I not surprised?

Aucker: The guy's been impersonating me as part of his scam. I'm making it my mission to put him away.

Victoria: What can I do to help?

Aucker: Well, how do you feel about wearing a wire tomorrow night when you meet this joker?

Victoria: Fine.

Aucker: We don't know anything about him. I mean, it could be dangerous.

Victoria: I'm assuming that I'll have backup?

Aucker: The cash will be provided by the justice department. There'll be plenty of agents planted around in case anything goes awry.

Victoria: Well, as long as we can put this phony and his partners behind bars, I guess that's what matters.

Daniel: Well, at least now we know what this guy's scam is.

Jana: Look, Victoria has no idea that you were the artist. She doesn't know it's a forgery.

Daniel: Yeah, that's because this Howard, or whatever his real name is, threatened me.

Jana: Well, I wasn't about to risk your safety, Daniel.

Daniel: If--if she's getting the feds involved, and he said no cops...

Jana: (Sighs) Look, I really think we should phone Aucker, the real one, and I think we need to let him know what this impersonator is up to, Daniel.

Daniel: I think Aucker is the wrong person to call, because he's not gonna believe a single word that I say. No, I think that's a bad idea.

Jana: Well, so what are you gonna do then?

Daniel: I'm gonna get my painting back.

Jana: How?

Daniel: I'm gonna show up at Jimmy's tomorrow before Victoria gets there, and I'm gonna have it out with this guy.

Jana: No, no, no. You're not, Daniel, because this guy could show up with a weapon or a gun or something. God, I couldn’t... (Sighs) Bear it if something terrible happened to you.

Daniel: It's my only way out of this mess, unless you got a better idea.

Nick: You know, when you were pregnant with Noah...

Sharon: We had oatmeal cookies and milk every night before bed. You remember that.

Nick: (Chuckles) I remember every detail from when I was your husband. Starting and raising a family with you was the best time of my life.

Sharon: How can I ever thank you?

Nick: For the milk and cookies?

Sharon: (Laughs) No. For being so brave. If you hadn't let me know how you really feel and what kind of future you want...

Nick: I couldn't go on living like that. I needed to make a decision for everyone's sake.

Sharon: I have never loved anyone the way that I love you, Nicholas Newman.

Nick: I love you, too. I've never stopped.

Nikki: Jack, did you take Ashley home already?

Jack: Take her home?

Nikki: Well, I was told the two of you were out tonight.

Jack: No, I went out to the ranch to see her earlier for a little while. Why?

Nikki: So she was still at the ranch when you left?

Jack: She was gonna try to get a good night's sleep. Why? Is there a problem?

Nikki: Um, Victoria asked me to check in on her. I-I must have gotten my signals crossed or something. Never mind.

Phyllis: Hey. Hi. You're looking for Sharon just like I'm looking for Nick, right?

Jack: Hey, wait, if you came here to go upstairs and start knocking on doors--

Phyllis: No, no, no. I-I-- no, no, no. Shh, shh, shh, shh. I came here to tell my husband something.

Jack: Now is not the time, trust me.

Phyllis: No, no, listen. I thought about this long and hard, and I really want to tell him something. I'm not going to let that woman take him away. I'm gonna fight for him.

Jack: Fine, I-I want you to fight for him.

Phyllis: I decided that I'm gonna fight for him.

Jack: But not right now...

Phyllis: Let go of me.

Jack: Not like this. Listen to me. We have to keep our dignity intact.

Phyllis: Okay. You think he's with Sharon right now?

Jack: I think we need to leave this alone for tonight. We can't fix this right now, not like this.

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Jack: Come on. Let me take you home, all right?

Jack: Come on.

Nikki: Adam, its Nikki. I know you lied to me about Jack being with Ashley tonight. Where is she?

Ashley: Am I sleepwalking, too? And I'm getting up in the middle of my dream and changing my nightgown, too?

Adam: (Sighs) Look, I can understand why you might think I would know something since I'm the only other person in the house, but if you fell down the stairs, I-if something happened to the baby, don't you think there'd be signs of it? I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. Have you? (Sighs) I mean, come on, Ashley, my God, I-I-if--if you fell, I would have heard you. I would have called an ambulance. I don't want anything bad to happen to you. You dreamed that you fell down the stairs. You--you dreamed that you were in another nightgown, just like you dreamed you saw Sabrina.

Ashley: You reached your hand out to me. You tried to catch me.

Adam: In your dream. In your dream.

Ashley: No. No. No.

Adam: (Sighs) Okay, l-listen, you talked to me, right? You--right before you went to bed, we--we talked. Now wouldn't it make sense that--that you might dream about me? Doesn't it?

Ashley: No, none of this makes any sense to me. I don't know what's happening.

Adam: Do you mind if I play "Dr. Freud" for a minute?

Ashley: (Sighs) You think I need a shrink now, too?

Adam: Dreams about falling are very common, all right? Now it means that you're feeling anxious or insecure. Sabrina lost Victor's baby. Now it--it makes sense that-- that she would be on your mind. So you take these fears. You--you take these insecurities to bed with you, and you have a dream that's so frightening that-- that when you wake up, you actually experience physical pain. Now you asked me to explain to you what I-- what I thought happened tonight. (Sighs) As disturbing as this may feel, I really think that's it, Ash.

Ashley: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe. It just seemed so real.

Adam: Okay, listen. I'll have my doctor friend come by in the morning just to prove to you that you're okay, 'cause you are, Ash, I promise.

Ashley: Okay. (Sighs) Maybe I'll go back to sleep now.

Adam: Get some rest. (Sighs)

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Victoria: All right, I'm gonna--

J.T.: I just dropped Summer off.

Adam: What does the A.M.A. do to doctors who sexually assault their patients?

Phyllis: Oh, Jack.
