Abby: (Sighs) I'm glad you're the one taking over Dad's seat on the board.
Ashley: Oh, Honey. Me, too.
Abby: Even if it is a total guilt gift.
Ashley: What are you talking about?
Abby: Well, I'm sure Victor did it because he felt bad about how rotten he was to Dad.
Victor: Let us take a look at the agenda.
Victoria: Um, well, I know there's a lot that you want to accomplish, but I suggest that we delay some of the votes until we fill Brad's seat.
Victor: That has already been taken care of.
Victoria: Already?
Victor: I asked Ashley to join the board. She's agreed.
Victoria: Ashley works for Jabot. That's the competition.
Victor: Oh, Sweetheart, they compete with a very small part of Newman Enterprises.
Victoria: Dad, it is still a conflict of interest.
Victor: Don't you worry. I'll take care of things, okay?
Victoria: This is a mistake.
Victor: We should be happy to have someone of Ashley's caliber on our board of directors.
Victoria: You are doing it again.
Victor: I'm doing what again?
Victoria: You are putting your new family in front of our company and in front of your other children. Just like you did with Sabrina.
Victor: Please keep Sabrina out of this, all right?
(Knock on door)
Sharon: Who is it?
Nick: It's Nick. I only need a minute.
Nick: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bust in on you like this. I was just worried because you didn't return any of my calls.
Sharon: Um, yeah, I was busy.
Nick: Then I'll make this fast. I, uh... you know, I know yesterday was our anniversary.
Sharon: So you remembered?
Nick: Of course I did. You must think I'm a real jerk. But I just--I, uh... I didn't know what to say or what to do.
Nick: Sharon?
Sharon: (Cries)
Nick: Sharon?
Sharon: It's not you, Nick. It’s...
Nick: What's got you so upset?
Jack: Wow. You look like death on toast.
Billy: Is it possible I could just get my car keys and not get a lecture from you?
Jack: Not exactly the dress code for C.E.O.
Billy: I'm on my way to the shower. And I actually have a change of clothes right here in my office.
Jack: Wow. Stale booze and... expensive perfume and yesterday's clothes. Do I get to know her name?
Billy: Not a chance.
Jack: Do you even know her name?
Billy: Jack, I've, uh, I've got work to do, so...
Jack: I hope that includes acknowledging your daughter.
Billy: Back off, Jack.
Jack: Did you hear anything that I said yesterday?
Billy: I heard everything you said yesterday, Jack, just back off.
Jack: What are you waiting for, Billy? If you don't let Cane know that you are the father of Chloe's baby, he is going to claim that child as his own!
Billy: I know, Jack, okay? I get it! Just back off of me, okay? Please?
Dr. Okamura: Okay, Chloe, cough.
Chloe: (Coughs)
Dr. Okamura: Now your throat is gonna be a little scratchy. You okay?
Chloe: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Esther: Oh, Baby. You really scared us.
Cane: Good morning. I'm glad you stuck around.
Chloe: Yeah, me, too.
Cane: You know, someone missed you.
Cane: Come here. I want you to say hello to Cordelia Katherine Valentine Ashby.
Chloe: Oh! Hi.
Cane: I hope you're not mad at me for naming the baby. I mean, you can change the name, if you want.
Chloe: No, I think it's perfect. It's perfect.
Cane: Oh. She's perfect.
Neil: All right, listen, Sweetheart, I don't have too much time. I have a Newman board meeting to get to. Very important.
Karen: Okay. Well, I, um, I spoke to Rafe at child services about Ana’s adoption. And he said that the next thing we need to do is to pick a time and a date for our interview.
Neil: Karen, what-- what are you thinking?
Karen: That Ana needs a loving, secure home as soon as possible.
Neil: Okay, okay, but what did I tell you? I told you that I wanted to include Tyra in all this. We agreed that we wouldn't do anything--anything without including Tyra, without speaking to her first. Didn't we?
Karen: So you haven't spoken to Tyra then?
Neil: I will. Soon.
Karen: Neil, come on. You know the longer we wait, the more vulnerable we become. Without--without legal standing, child services can come in and take her away in a moment's notice.
Neil: Honey, I know. I understand that. I do.
Karen: Okay, well, then help us out here. Talk to Tyra so we can put this behind us and get on with our lives, please.
Victoria: Look, I'm sorry, all right? I didn't mean to upset you.
Victor: Sweetheart, then kindly don't bring Sabrina into this.
Victoria: It just would be nice if you didn't feel like you had to rush into things.
Victor: My darling, I've known Ashley for many years, okay? I did not make this decision as a result of some irresponsible impulse.
Victoria: Fine. Then why not discuss it with your family first?
Victor: You have a chance to express your position or support, along with everyone else later on when we have a vote.
Victoria: Oh, come on, Dad. If you back Ashley, it's a done deal. All of the other members are gonna do exactly what you say.
Victor: That's right, because this is my company. You better remember that.
Dr. Okamura: We'll be taking you downstairs for some tests later. In the meantime, I suggest you rest.
Chloe: Okay. What about, uh, food? Can I eat?
Dr. Okamura: If you're hungry, you can have anything you like.
Chloe: Okay.
Cane: Thank you, Doctor.
Esther: You want food, Honey?
Cane: That's a good sign. What do you feel like having?
Chloe: Um... Mom's snickerdoodles.
Esther: I haven't made those for you since you were 5.
Chloe: They're still my favorite.
Esther: I'll run home, I'll make you a batch, and I'll be back in time for Cordelia's next feeding, okay?
Chloe: Okay.
Esther: I love you, Honey, so much. And you, too, Sweetie.
Chloe: No lipstick, Ma.
Lily: Uh, you know what? I think I'll come, too. I'm sure you need to talk to Cane.
Cane: You know that you scared the hell out of us. I tried to imagine what I would do if we lost you. What I'd say to my little baby.
Chloe: Yeah, well, you can tear that speech up. 'Cause I'm sticking around.
Cane: Good.
Cane: Can I ask you something?
Chloe: Sure, yeah. What?
Cordelia: (Coos)
Chloe: Oh.
Cane: Why you were at the cabin with Billy and Lily? What was so important that a 7 1/2-month pregnant woman would get it the car in a snowstorm and drive up there?
Jack: Billy, I told you from the very beginning, this is not the kind of secret you can carry to the grave with you.
Billy: Well, then give my big brother a gold star for being right.
Jack: The only way it would've worked is if you had never told a soul. Then that secret would be eating away at you, but that'd be your problem, not everyone’s.
Billy: Not everyone else is about to have their life turned upside-down, Jack.
Jack: Are you kidding me? Billy, this affects everyone-- the baby, Chloe, Cane, Lily, Esther, Jill, the entire Abbott family. Your actions always affect other people's lives.
Jack: Billy? You still with me?
Billy: Yeah, you're right. I'm a dog.
Jack: I never said you were a dog.
Billy: Look, whatever. You know it. I know it. That kid's gonna know it.
Nick: Sharon? What's going on?
Sharon: You know the answer to that better than anyone else, Nick.
Nick: Look, I know you're going through a rough time right now, but... it's not like you to drink alone.
Sharon: Well, I, um, I just wanted to mark the evening, and I-I guess I went a little bit overboard. But I'm--I'm fine now.
Nick: You don't look fine.
Sharon: Come on, you... you tied one on or two in your day.
Nick: I don't wanna pry, I just wanna make sure you're okay. If you need to call, you know, I'm here.
Sharon: No, I--no, because, uh, we said that we wouldn't lean on each other anymore. Remember?
Nick: Well, if you need me...
Victoria: You know, you may call the shots around here, but you are not the only one involved, Dad. You drove your own children out of this company last year. And then when you disappeared in Mexico, Nick and I stepped in and we kept this company afloat.
Victor: To which I'm very grateful. And I've expressed that many times. That's why I asked both of you to stay on.
Victoria: And yet, you won't let Nick and me help you make an important decision that is crucial to the future of this company. Ashley Abbott on the board of directors raises very big questions, Dad.
Victor: All of which I've answered, my darling, if you had listened.
Victoria: Yeah, yeah, I heard every word you said. You know, doing it this way is like a slap in the face to me and Nick.
Jack: Oh, that is definitely it. You are ready.
Colleen: Well, I remember everything you told me last night at dinner, Uncle Jack.
Jack: Sweetheart, no one will see this coming. This will be a board meeting for the ages.
Colleen: Let's hope so.
Jack: Do I sense a little trepidation in that voice?
Colleen: Well, this is Victor Newman. He's intimidating.
Jack: The mustache is a blowhard. He loves to pound his chest. He is all overcompensation and hot air. Besides, he can't touch you. Remember that.
Colleen: Are you sure?
Jack: I am sure. I have double-checked the Newman bylaws. You are golden.
Colleen: Well, then, this is it.
Jack: By the end of today, you will have Victor Newman eating out of your hand.
Sharon: You shouldn't have come here, Nick. I'm a big girl. I can handle my own life.
Nick: Can you?
Sharon: You know, what I do isn't your business anymore.
Nick: Sharon, I'm not trying to police you.
Sharon: Well, whatever it is, it's gotta stop, okay? You made your decision. You want your marriage. So now you need to stay away from me, like you said you would. Okay, Nick? If you don't mind, I have some appointments today.
Sharon: Please.
Nick: Hang on, hang on, listen... I just wanted to make sure you're okay. I can't say I'm leaving totally convinced.
Sharon: Good-bye, Nick.
Lily: Well, Billy, you better be sober today.
Billy: I'm sorry about last night.
Lily: Which part?
Billy: All of it, but mostly disappointing you.
Lily: Yeah, I think that's the least of it. Just so you know, Chloe is awake.
Billy: Is she okay? They won't say squat over here at the nurses' station.
Lily: Uh, yeah, I think the new antibiotics are working on her infection. Oh, that's right, you weren't here. Well, the first medicine they gave her-- she had a bad reaction to it. Guess you weren't around for that part.
Billy: But she's better?
Lily: Yeah, she's fine. She's awake. They took her breathing tube out.
Billy: That's good, right, yeah?
Lily: Yeah, it's good. I left her alone with Cane so that she could tell him the truth about the baby.
Billy: That's why I'm here.
Lily: That's good. Because I don't think that she has the courage to tell him on her own. I just wish I'd had the guts to tell him sooner.
Billy: It's not your mess to clean up.
Lily: Yeah, I know, but it will be. Because it broke his heart when we lost our baby. And this is even worse.
Billy: Look, I...
Chloe: A lot of what happened is fuzzy.
Cane: So you're saying you don't remember what happened at the cabin?
Chloe: Uh...
Cane: Hey, listen, its okay. It doesn't matter. 'Cause at the end of this, our little baby's okay.
Chloe: Cane, there's something that I need to tell you.
Cane: Okay.
Chloe: No, no, you don't understand. It's not okay. Nothing is okay.
Cane: Listen, I don't want you getting upset. Don't get upset about this.
Chloe: You're going to hate me, and you're going to hate Cordelia.
Cane: That's not possible.
Chloe: Yes, it is.
Cane: Listen, listen, there is nothing you can say to me--
Chloe: Cane, you are not the father of this baby. Cordelia is not your daughter. She's not yours.
Cane: Get out, Billy.
Billy: I'm not going anywhere.
Neil: My man, thank you, appreciate that.
Karen: Honey, you know, the social worker's actually bringing Ana here to visit Tyra today. So we could talk to her about the adoption then.
Neil: No. Absolutely not. That's not the way. Not with Ana and the social worker around. I will handle it, all right?
Karen: Oh, will you?
Neil: You're doubting me. Yes, when the time is right, I will. Now, I got a meeting-- a board meeting to get to. I'm running late. I gotta go, okay? I'll see you tonight.
Karen: Yeah.
Neil: Well... look who it is.
Tyra: Hey.
Neil: Hey, Tyra. Hi.
Tyra: How you doing?
Neil: Good, good. How are you?
Tyra: Um, Ana’s on her way over. You staying around?
Neil: No, actually, I have a meeting at Newman that I have to get to, but, um, maybe we can talk later?
Tyra: Okay. Later's good.
Neil: All right. I'll see ya.
Tyra: Okay, bye.
Neil: Bye.
Tyra: I'm gonna be outside on the patio. Can I get a coffee? Thank you.
Victoria: Putting a ranking executive from a top competitor on our board of directors?
Nick: Well, I'm sure Dad is taking care of that.
Victoria: He might as well have just put Jack Abbott on the board.
Nick: You know, Ashley's not that bad.
Victoria: But she's very close with her brother. And Jack will use that connection to get information and cause all kinds of trouble for us, and you know that.
Nick: Look, if this goes wrong, Dad's gonna be the one that has to deal with the consequences.
Victoria: So you think because he's taking responsibility that that's gonna keep him from blaming us when this whole thing turns into a huge disaster? He's thrown us to the wolves before, both of us, many times.
Nick: Okay, Sis, what's really bugging you?
Victoria: Okay, I'll tell you. How loyal has Mom been? How many years has she dedicated herself to Newman Enterprises? And Dad refused to give her a board seat. And then Ashley's here for two months, and he serves her up a board seat on a silver platter.
Nick: Okay, I happen to agree with you. But having an open fight in this meeting today is not gonna solve anything. Let's just try and keep it professional, okay?
Victoria: All right, I'll do my best.
Nick: Good. There's Colleen.
Victor: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen. Shall we begin?
Cane: Get out, Billy. Chloe and I were in the middle of something.
Chloe: He should stay.
Cane: This has got nothing to do with Billy.
Billy: Just listen to her.
Cane: You can't tell me this is not my daughter. This is not true.
Chloe: Cane, I'm really sorry, I...
Cane: I stepped up. I married you so our baby would have a home. You are not gonna tell me this is not my daughter.
Chloe: I'm sorry. She isn’t.
Cane: We had a D.N.A. test.
Chloe: I know.
Cane: And the test said I was the father and that all the markers were there.
Chloe: Actually, the test proved that you couldn't be ruled out.
Cane: So no one else could be the father unless...
Billy: Unless it's your brother.
Karen: Hey, Tyra.
Tyra: Hey.
Karen: So you, um, excited about your meeting with Ana?
Tyra: Always.
Karen: Yeah?
Tyra: Yeah. I don't know, I just... it just feels weird that this is the way I have to see my little girl, you know?
Karen: Well, we got some good news from Rafe this week, right?
Tyra: Ah, so I've heard.
Karen: Yeah.
Tyra: You know, I cannot wait to tell Ana that Yolanda will never, ever, ever be able to claim her again.
Karen: And you know, actually, we have better news than that.
Tyra: Oh, do we?
Karen: Yeah. Neil wants us to start adoptions proceedings right away.
Tyra: He does?
Karen: Yeah, in fact, he told me to go ahead and start it, so I-I did. He didn't tell you?
Tyra: Uh, well, we... he said that we need to talk, but he didn't--
Karen: Oh, you know what? I'm sure that he intends to talk to you about it. I think he just didn't wanna hold things up in the process. I mean, it's so important that we jump on this right away, so that we can secure Ana’s future. You understand that, right? I mean, obviously, it's the best thing for her. She can live with a mother and a father and you can visit.
Ana: Mom!
Tyra: Hey, baby girl!
Ana: I'm so happy that we're together.
Tyra: Oh, me, too, Baby. Me, too.
Jack: Sharon? It's me. Honey, I know you're in there. The front desk said they just brought up coffee service. Sharon, come on, open up.
Sharon: There. Open. Happy?
Jack: I'd ask how it's going, but, uh, I kinda got the picture.
Sharon: I had a rough night, okay?
Jack: Must've been a full moon.
Sharon: What?
Jack: My brother Billy tied one on last night.
Sharon: Jack, I, uh... I-I look like hell right now.
Jack: Says you.
Sharon: No, I haven't had a chance to put my face on.
Jack: Oh, I was always kinda fond of this face, in the good times and the bad.
Sharon: Jack?
Jack: Yeah?
Sharon: I'm really messed up.
Jack: Yeah, we're all messed up. I'm here to help, Sharon. No strings.
Cane: Could you please have the nurse take Cordelia to the nursery?
Lily: Yeah, sure.
Cane: Thank you.
Chloe: Cane, I'm... I'm sorry.
Cane: So you two were together? And this whole thing has been a joke on me and you've been carrying on for months, is that right?
Chloe: No. We were over before you and I even met.
Billy: We had a thing in New York, but it was no big deal. And it was over a long time ago.
Cane: Well, it wasn't long enough, Billy, if you're claiming the baby.
Billy: We hooked up again in June.
Chloe: It was like a last hurrah, that's it.
Billy: It was nothing serious, and you knew that.
Cane: Except she got knocked up, and you were nowhere around to be found, right? So you come gunning for me? But the whole thing's a lie, even the sex. And that's why I don't remember, because it didn't even happen! Right, Chloe?
Chloe: No, no, you're right. No, it didn’t.
Cane: Wow. So you just figured any Chancellor will do? I bet you thought you found a real sap, right?
Chloe: No. No. Actually, I found a good father. And I knew that you would show up for the baby and I knew that he didn't wanna have anything to do with it.
Cane: Did you tell him?
Billy: No, she didn't tell me. I moved back to town, I didn't know anything. I just showed up at my new brother's house to meet his wife, and there she was, Chloe, boom, pregnant.
Cane: So you're saying you didn't have a clue?
Billy: I had my suspicions, and I asked her. She told me flat out, no, it's not my kid.
Chloe: Yeah, and he was really relieved.
Billy: Yes. And then I saw the way that you were so ready and excited to be a father, and it's obviously what you wanted. I didn't wanna ruin your life.
Cane: Well, it's a little late for that, isn't it, Billy? And don't you dare pretend you give a damn about me. You only hid behind this filthy little lie so you would get off the hook.
Chloe: Cane? Cane? I did it. I am the one who changed the sonogram. I am the one that lied to you, just like I lied to him. I'm the one.
Cane: Why are you defending him? Why are you making excuses?
Chloe: I'm not trying to defend him. I am trying to be honest and fair.
Billy: Cane, I'm not trying to get off of any hook. I'm here. I'm ready.
Cane: Billy, I saw your version of ready last night when you turned up here trashed. Okay? And, Chloe, what are you? What are you? I gave up the love of my life and I spent eight months trying to be a husband to you, getting ready to be a father for our baby. Do you even realize that there is a baby involved in this? Do you even care that there is a little, innocent baby stuck in the middle of all this crap?!
Cane: And you knew about this, didn't you?
Lily: Cane, I just found out.
Cane: And you didn’t... even bother to tell me?
Lily: Because I couldn’t.
Victor: In addition to Bradley’s service to this board of directors, he has also distinguished himself as a hero. He gave his life to save another. And that is the highest form of sacrifice, the highest form of heroism. In gratitude, the board of directors of Newman Enterprises has decided to present this plaque for outstanding service to Bradley’s daughter Colleen and Abby.
(Applause)
Victor: Now to the business at hand. And that is to fill the vacant seat left by the tragic and untimely death of Bradley Carlton. I have given this a great deal of thought. I hope you approve of my choice. Ashley Abbott is an extraordinarily gifted executive. She has performed that function for Jabot Cosmetics and Forrester Creations. Therefore, I move that you approve her appointment to--
Colleen: Excuse me, Victor?
Victor: Yes?
Colleen: Before you put somebody in my father's seat, I have something to say.
Sharon: Every time I think that I'm getting my life together...
Jack: Yeah, life's been kicking you around a bit. You get to fall apart if you need to.
Sharon: Well, that's just as well, because I am. Nick stopped by. He just... wanted to... let me know that he remembered our anniversary yesterday.
Jack: Well, that had to be...
Sharon: It was terrible. My head hurts so much.
Jack: You know what? You need some food. You probably need a lot of water, too.
Sharon: No, I need aspirin. There's some in the drawer right there.
Jack: I'll get it. I'll get it. I got it.
Jack: Just one minute. There we go.
Jack: Here you go. Bottoms up.
Sharon: Ugh, don't say that.
Jack: Boy, that was some night of debauchery. You finished that bottle of champagne all by yourself?
[Sharon remembering]
Billy: (Chuckles)
Sharon: Yeah. Yeah, I was alone last night.
Cane: (Sighs)
Lily: Cane, it wasn't my place to tell you.
Cane: How could you not have told me, Lily?
Lily: 'Cause I couldn't be the one to take another child away from you!
Cane: Okay. Nobody is taking away my daughter.
Chloe: Cane, I can't-- I can't ask you to--
Cane: I am the baby's father.
Billy: Cane, you have to get it through your head that she's not your kid.
Cane: No, you need to get it through your head, okay? She's my daughter. And no one is taking her away from me.
Ana: There's a science project we're doing next Wednesday, even if we don't care about the stupid science fair. But Mr. Mirandi said to do a project that no one's done before. But I don't know what to do. So I was thinking I could go talk to the chemist that work in Mr. Neil's job. So I could give them an idea.
[Tyra remembering]
Karen's voice: Neil wants us to start adoption proceedings right away. Didn't he tell you? It's so important that we jump on this if Ana’s gonna have a secure future. You can understand that, can't you? Obviously, this is what's best for Ana. She can live with a mother and a father and you can visit any time.
Ana: Mom? Are you listening to me?
Tyra: I'm so sorry, baby.
Marisol: Are you okay?
Tyra: I'm--I just-- I feel a little woozy.
Marisol: Oh, you don't look so well.
Tyra: Um, I could use a glass of water.
Marisol: Okay, I'll get it. Put your head down and take some deep breaths.
Tyra: Okay, thank you. Come on, baby, we gotta get outta here.
Ana: What?
Tyra: We gotta go. Get your backpack. Let's go. Let's go. Come on, hurry up.
Jack: A whole bottle by yourself? I'm surprised you're not feeling worse.
Sharon: No, I-I-I feel pretty rotten. Believe me.
Jack: You can tell me anything, you know that. Look how I handled the news about Nick.
Sharon: You're a good friend.
Jack: I am your friend. And I wanna help. Talk to me. Why are you beating yourself up like this? What's got you feeling so low?
Sharon: I can’t.
Jack: Sure you can. Talk to me. I promise, I will not betray your trust. I will not take any of it personally, no matter what.
Sharon: Oh, Jack.
Jack: Hey.
Sharon: I'm so messed up. I'm just so screwed up.
Jack: It's okay. It's okay. Let it out.
Victor: All right, Colleen. If you would like to say a few words about your father.
Colleen: My father cherished his spot on this board. It was a symbol of how far he'd come from a very modest beginning. Brad Carlton never took for granted what he attained in life. It is out of respect for him that I have decided to take over his seat on this board. In accordance with article 7, subparagraph 53 of the Newman bylaws.
Victor: Well, now, Colleen, you are a very brave woman, but you are highly unqualified.
Colleen: I have every right to the seat, Victor. Maybe you have reason to come after my father, but you have no cause to come after me. So I am not going anywhere.
Woman: Hello, daddy. How's our little girl doing?
Cane: She's an absolute champ. She just finished her whole bottle.
Woman: Her birth certificate is all filled out and ready for signatures. Where's Chloe?
Cane: Um, she went for some tests. She'll be back soon.
Woman: Do you wanna go ahead and sign while we wait for Mom?
Cane: Thank you.
Billy: Lily.
Lily: Well, now, there's the breakfast of champions.
Billy: I told Cane. That's what you wanted.
Lily: I didn't want any of this.
Billy: Neither did I. I mean, do you understand that? Do you get it? I wasn't given any real options here. No more than you were. No more than any-- that's not what I wanna say. Look, I don't know what happens here. The only think I'm sure of is the way I feel about you. Okay? That's--that's what I want. That's what my-- that's where my heart is.
Lily: You know what, Billy? You are a coward and a jerk. You're not even a fraction of the man that your brother is. So you can take your feelings for me.. and shove 'em!
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Roger: I got the county clerk to waive the waiting period. We can get married today.
Colleen: I have every right to this seat.
Victor: Do you know what you're getting into?
Kay: If I'm not Katherine Chancellor, then why did they kidnap me?
