Victoria: Cameron Kirsten?

Nick: Yep.

Victoria: Is dad going? It seems like a good fit.

Victoria: You've been a thorn in our father's side for god knows how long and he still turns to you. He still trusts you.

Nick: That's right.

Victoria: These legal problems, what are they?

Nick: The only thing I can tell you

Victoria: You're gonna tell me exactly what's going on. You know, because you're the cause of it. Aren't you?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Door closes)

Victor: Hi, Sharon.

Sharon: Victor, hi. I didn't know you were here.

Victor: I'm just having some breakfast.

Sharon: Isn't it a bit late?

Victor: Why?

Sharon: Well, you're not at the office.

Victor: That's right.

Sharon: Is anything wrong?

Victor: Is anything wrong? Well. I'm about to get ived)m)[)Ainat)m atat i'awhat complex. Meanwhile, I have asked your husband--my son—to run the company. So that gives me time to sleep a little longer and read the paper.

Sharon: So you turned Newman Enterprises over to Nick?

Victor: Yeah. You don't think that's a good idea?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danny: Hey, you.

Chris: Hey, yourself. You looked about a million miles away.

Danny: Um yeah, I was, uh, on another planet.

Chris: Rocket man.

Danny: Yeah, that's me. Um, coffee?

Chris: Oh, I'd love some.

Danny: Have you eaten yet?

Chris: No. I don't have much of an appetite.

Danny: Well, that's not good.

Chris: I'm feeling a little queasy after last night.

Danny: Chris, come on.

Chris: I wish you could just tell me that it was a bad dream, that I didn't humiliate myself in front of Paul and Lauren. But you can't do that, can you?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gina: Good morning, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Is it?

Gina: Why so glum? I would think you'd be, uh, very happy. You got to see Danny yesterday. I'm sure you got to talk about your son.

Phyllis: I don't want to start with you, Gina. Why don't you just sit there and glare at me in silence?

Gina: Ooh, aren't we cranky this morning?

John: So, Jackie, Ashley is anxious to get back to the lab?

Jack: Well, the timing couldn't be better, with Damon going out of town.

John: Yeah, but now-- thank you-- if she's ready. We have to make sure that she doesn't overdo.

Jack: No, no. She can't handle a lot of pressure. The last thing we want is to have her back in the hospital.

John: Exactly. Good morning, Gina.

Gina: Good morning, John. Jack.

Jack: Hey, I don't want you worrying, okay? Brad is gonna keep an eye on Ashley. If he doesn't think she's ready to go back to the lab, she doesn't go back to the lab.

John: I just hope it's not too far in the future

Jack: Yeah, could certainly use her on this new project.

John: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: Oh, you have a new project, great. Things must be going well at Jabot.

John: Yes, Phyllis. Very well.

Jack: Better than you can imagine.

Jack: Some eggs? Thank you very much.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sharon: No, no. I didn't mean that there's anything wrong with putting the company in Nick's hands. He just didn't say anything to me about it.

Victor: Mm-hmm. All right.

Sharon: Are you...

Victor: Am I what?

Sharon: Are you all right? I mean, you say that you have legal problems, and yet you seem just fine, almost amused.

Victor: If truth be told, Sharon, I am quite concerned. But I have decided there's no use in worrying, is there?

Sharon: Is there anything I can do?

Victor: Just think good thoughts.

Sharon: Victor, you know, no matter what happens, I have always believed in you.

Victor: That's very nice to know. Will you tell everyone when I go to court?

Sharon: I absolutely would.

Victor: Good. That's nice.

Victor: Anything else?

Sharon: Uh, no. Uh, I guess I better get going.

Victor: Okay. Have a nice day.

Sharon: You too.

Victor: Bye.

Sharon: Bye.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victoria: How much trouble have you gotten our father into?

Nick: Where do you get off, coming into my office, making accusations, demanding answers? You must think you swing a lot of weight around here.

Victoria: A power trip-- from you. That's rich.

Nick: Sis, get off it.

Victoria: It's happening. Ladies and gentlemen, his head is actually swelling right before my very eyes. Dad hands him the keys to the executive washroom, and you'd think he'd made you emperor.

Nick: Look, just settle down, all right?

Victoria: No, you settle down. Let's get one thing real clear. I have a right to ask questions, and I'm gonna get some answers. I am not gonna take any of your attitude. I'm not dad. You may think that you're gonna run this place one of these days, but you will never, ever pull rank with me. You got that? Not now, not ever. Everyone else, maybe, but not me.

Nick: Are you finished?

Victoria: Did you hear what I said?

Nick: Yeah, I heard you.

Victoria: Good. Now tell me what's going on with Dad.

Nick: There's an investigation going on.

Victoria: Who's investigating whom?

Nick: The D.A.'s office is investigating our father.

Victoria: Oh, my God! For what?

Nick: He wouldn't tell me.

Victoria: But you know.

Nick: How the hell would I know that?

Victoria: You really expect me to believe that you didn't light the fuse on all this? How stupid do you think I am?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phyllis: Well, I'm-- I'm glad to hear that there's good news.

Gina: Yes. As a matter of fact, this family has had so little for so long.

John: And let us hope that the worst is behind us.

Jack: Yeah, here's to better times.

Jack: Ah, better times.

Gina: You got it.

Phyllis: Yeah, better times. Hear, hear.

Phyllis: So, um, how long are we gonna do this? Can't we have a slightly civil conversation?

Jack: What would you like to talk about, Phyllis?

Phyllis: Well, obviously, I'm persona non grata.

John: And I think you've done your share to earn that, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Well, honestly, I never thought that working for competing companies would tear us apart like this. But I would like you to know that, um, this family means more to me than you can imagine. I have to talk to Jack about some things. Can we go upstairs?

Jack: Yeah.

John: No, no, no, no. I'm really not terribly hungry. How about you, Gina?

Gina: Oh, um, me neither. Why don't we give them some privacy?

John: Yeah. After you.

Phyllis: John.

John: Yes.

Phyllis: I want you to know, we haven't seen eye to eye... um, but I want you to know, I'm glad I've gotten to know you. You're a good person, and I respect you.

John: Thank you.

Phyllis: And my working at Newman Enterprises was never personal.

Jack: Maybe not for you. For us, it became personal a long time ago.

John: Phyllis, Jabot is the lifeblood of this family, and we have all dedicated our entire lives to building it.

Phyllis: And I don't want to see you lose it. But there has to be more to being an Abbott then just hating Victor Newman.

John: Jack, talk to her.

Phyllis: Listen, I wanted to talk when I got home last night, but you were sleeping in the guest room. So, uh, there's no point putting it off. Um...

Jack: I'm listening.

Phyllis: Where do I start?

Jack: Try the beginning.

Phyllis: Ah, the beginning. Well.. this was the greatest love story of all, don't you think?

Jack: Yeah. That's the way I feel.

Phyllis: You know, don't you?

Jack: Know what, Phyllis?

Phyllis: What Victor did.

Jack: How he broke the law? The crimes he committed to bring me down? Yeah, I know about that. Is that what this is?

Phyllis: Partly. But just, um... hear me out, please. This is very hard for me to do.

Jack: I'm in no rush.

Phyllis: I want you to know, what I said at the table is a hun... 100% true.

Jack: I believe that.

Phyllis: I never meant to do anything to hurt you. I never meant to do anything to hurt you or your family.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nick: I don't know, Vic. How stupid are you?

Victoria: That's lame.

Nick: And you making all these assumptions is lame, too.

Victoria: It's more than just assumptions. You've been making these dark, threatening comments for weeks, about how dad did something to help Safra.

Nick: Yeah, and?

Victoria: Well that got old, didn't it? I mean, you can only claim the sky is falling for so long. If it doesn't start raining concrete, people are gonna start thinking you're weird.

Nick: Well, now it's coming down.

Victoria: On its own, or did you pull it down?

Nick: Look, if Dad did something wrong, don't you think he should be the one to take the blame?

Victoria: Who assigns the blame?

Nick: Not me.

Victoria: Then who?

Nick: I don't know, Vic. The judge?

Victoria: You know, we have worked really hard to keep our family business from leaking outside these walls.

Nick: Well, it doesn't mean that it could never happen.

Victoria: It would need help.

Nick: That's a brilliant statement, Vic.

Victoria: I wonder if you're in touch with your real motives.

Nick: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Victoria: Oh, come on. Don't tell me you don't love being in charge. Don't tell me you don't have visions of yourself as Victor Newman -- master of the universe-- before whom all peons must bow down.

Nick: All right, that's enough. Look, I'm gonna say this for the last time. Dad did something wrong. If you got a problem with it, you go to him. Don't shoot the messenger.

Victoria: Is that what you are, a messenger? You better be careful. It doesn't matter how right you are. No one likes a rat.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victor: Well, good morning, my darling.

Nikki: Hello, darling.

Victor: Did you sleep well?

Nikki: I did. Very well.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: Did I hear you talking with somebody down here?

Victor: It was Sharon.

Nikki: Oh, really? What did she want?

Victor: Apparently, Noah had left one of his books out here.

Nikki: Well, that's her excuse anyway.

Victor: Yeah, she seemed kind of... sort of odd. I don't know.

Nikki: How do you mean?

Victor: Well, jumpy, anxious. I can't put my finger on it.

Nikki: It may have something to do with Cassie.

Victor: Why do you say that?

Nikki: Cassie came up to the house while you were away. Poor thing is so confused.

Victor: In what way?

Nikki: Well, she says her mother is acting strangely again, and she still brings up Sharon’s disappearance over the winter. And she can't get any answers out of her. I don't want to talk about Sharon right now. I want to talk about you and your trip to Toronto with our son. I have so many questions; I don't know where to begin.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Knock on door)

Sharon: Nick, I need to talk to you.

Nick: Babe, not now. I'm swamped.

Sharon: Yeah, becoming C.E.O. Of a company will do that to you, won't it?

Nick: Who told you?

Sharon: Your father. I only ran into him this morning at the main house. Nick, I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me.

Nick: Sharon, just calm down, all right?

Sharon: Honey, please don't ask me to just ignore everything that you told me last night, because I can’t. I need to know how to handle things with Victor.

Nick: Easy. You avoid him.

Sharon: Oh, well, that's realistic.

Nick: Babe, I've got a meeting in, like, two minutes, and it is so important.

Woman: Nicholas, your appointment is here to... oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were here, Mrs. Newman.

Nick: No, it's all right. Sharon was just leaving. Look, please, okay?

Woman: Should I ask him to wait?

Nick: No, send him in. Let me just grab the file. We'll talk later, all right?

[Sharon remembering.]

Sharon: Don't hit me!

Nick: Cameron, hey. Nice to see you, man.

[Sharon back to present]

Cameron: Good to see you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jack: You never meant to hurt me.

Phyllis: I know I did.

Jack: I've done my fair share of hurting, too.

Phyllis: Yes, you have. Jack, when, um, when I told you, uh, I-I didn't believe in the dirty tricks theory, that was true.

Jack: Was it?

Phyllis: Yes, it was. I-I don't suppose that matters now, but it was.

Jack: Then you weren't part of the plan, part of the, uh, conspiracy?

Phyllis: No, I wasn’t. I can't believe you have to ask me that.

Jack: Oh, you bet I have to ask.

Phyllis: Well, I guess that's what we've come to, right? That's how our trust has been destroyed.

Jack: A lot's happened.

Phyllis: How'd you find out?

Jack: That really matter?

Phyllis: No. No. I can guess how you found out.

Jack: Why, you hear it from the same person?

Phyllis: No, not directly anyway.

Jack: But you don't doubt that it happened.

Phyllis: No, I don't doubt. My source is unimpeachable.

Jack: You're not gonna leave his company even now, are you?

Phyllis: I-I don't know if you can understand this...

Phyllis: But I love my job. It fulfilled me... in ways you can't even imagine.

Phyllis: I was a success. I was somebody. I've never been a success at anything in my life.

Jack: Oh, come on. You're a success at anything you put your hand to.

Phyllis: Oh, no, I'm not. Not at this marriage.

Jack: Phyllis, come on.

Phyllis: Jack, this marriage is a mess. We fight all the time. We're at each other's throats all the time. When was the last time we had fun? Do you remember? I mean, the best thing about our relationship is that we had so much fun.

Phyllis: I don't want to let you go, but I don’t... I don't know how to save this.

Jack: Wait a minute. What are we talking about here?

Phyllis: What I'm talking about is we don't see... we don't see things the same way. I love you. But I don't think that we can be together. It's destructive. And our relationship-- what little we have left-- I think we'll destroy it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danny: You know, we all have our moments. Last night was your turn.

Chris: Oh.

Danny: I'm just glad I was, you know, there to help.

Chris: Me too. And you did, big time. Well, that's why I came by. I was hoping to run into you so I could thank you.

Danny: You're welcome.

Chris: Are you hungry? Can I buy you breakfast?

Danny: Are you kidding? I am always hungry. "Bottomless pit" Romalotti.

Chris: And suddenly I am starving. I didn't eat last night. I called that half a margarita dinner, and, well, my stomach was all tied up in knots because of everything.

Danny: Hey, you know, since you're buying, do you mind if I have the lobster omelet and maybe a side of caviar, a Dom Perignon mimosa?

Chris: I'm a civil servant now, remember?

Damon: Ah, so I gotta dial it back a little, huh?

Chris: Mm-hmm.

Damon: Well, you know, I'm used to the finer things in life.

Chris: You're back in the Midwest now, buddy.

Danny: And happy to be here. Definitely. For now anyway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jack: Is this about divorce?

Phyllis: No, it doesn't have to be.

Jack: How long have you known about Victor, the bribery?

Phyllis: Not that long.

Jack: But awhile. You could have come to me.

Phyllis: Yes.

Jack: And you didn't come to me.

Phyllis: I'm coming to you now.

Jack: To protect Victor?

Phyllis: No. I didn't want to pull the plug.

Jack: You saw the lengths that man would go to destroy me, our company, my father's life's work. You saw the toll it took on my family, and you couldn't pull the plug?

Phyllis: No, I couldn't. I guess that makes me a terrible person, doesn't it?

Jack: It makes you incredibly disloyal, sweetheart. I don't know how you can even consider yourself a member of this family when your loyalty is to the enemy.

Phyllis: My loyalties are divided. I'm sorry.

Jack: You're coming to me now because everything was gonna blow up. What, so I didn't have to get blindsided by the fact that you knew and you didn't tell me? What is this, damage control?

Phyllis: Yes, it is. That's exactly what it is. It's damage control.

Phyllis: This doesn't have to end, Jack. It doesn't have to end. Maybe we can salvage something.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victor: But before we discuss anything else, I want you to know how grateful I am that you talked me into going to Toronto.

Nikki: Even though your father turned out to be a cold, heartless man?

Victor: Well, at least now I know it for sure, and I've stopped wondering.

Nikki: Yeah. Hey, I-I know you always tell me not to go looking for trouble where none exists, but...

Victor: But what?

Nikki: I still find it odd that you were delayed so long at the airport. You said it was business.

Victor: Mm-hmm. It was.

Nikki: Well, why would you be doing business there? And why couldn't Nicholas wait for you?

Victor: What did he tell you?

Nikki: Nothing, really.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: Just that you had some things you had to take care of.

Victor: Well, I don't want you to worry, but the next few weeks, I have some issues that I have to deal with.

Nikki: What do you mean? Having to do with business?

Victor: Some significant problems that have need to be solved, you know? And that's why I've made a decision that I hope you'll be pleased with.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sharon: Oh, hey, Michael.

Michael: Oh, hey.

Sharon: Look, um, are you... I need to, uh, talk to somebody. Can you come in here?

Michael: Well, Sharon, right now, I've got--

Sharon: Look, Michael, I wouldn't ask you if it weren't an absolute emergency.

Michael: Oh, I really would rather not go into Victor's office to do this.

Sharon: I don't care if it's Victor's office.

Michael: If we could talk somewhere else, that's fine.

Sharon: I'm desperate. Michael, you're a lawyer, right? So anything I say, you have to keep a secret, right?

Michael: What in the world is going on with you?

Sharon: Just promise me, promise me, promise me you won't tell anybody.

Michael: Okay, okay. All right, all right. Calm down. Look, maybe this isn't necessary. I'd rather not give legal advice to a member of Victor's family, if it's all the same to you.

Sharon: Well, I may not be a member of that family after today if you don't help me.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris: You breakfast monster.

Danny: Don't tell me you forgot.

Chris: It was always one of your favorites, wasn't it?

Danny: Let me tell you, they don't have these big farmhouse chow downs across the pond. That's only reserved for the American tourists.

Chris: So have you turned into one of those continental types?

Danny: You tell me.

Chris: You still seem pretty down to earth.

Danny: How else do I seem to you?

Chris: Like Danny. Like you.

Chris: Anyway, um, I wanted to come by and say thank you, so I did. I'm gonna get going to work.

Danny: Right. Nailing those criminals.

Chris: Something like that.

Danny: Will I see you again?

Chris: I hope so.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael: All right, you know, if I agree to listen to you, you have to know that I have no obligation to--

Sharon: Damn it, you have to listen to me. Michael, I need you.

Michael: If you hadn't run into me just now in the hallway, I wouldn't even be here.

Sharon: Can't you see? I am freaking here, please.

Michael: If you need an attorney, I can recommend one to you very easily.

Sharon: Will you just shut up? Shut up. Just let me talk. Okay. You know that I left town last winter, right?

Michael: Yes, I heard a rumor to that effect.

Sharon: Okay, well, some things happened. Um, I thought that my marriage was falling apart. And it got to the point where it was either leave or lose my mind, so I took off.

Michael: Okay. Self-preservation.

Sharon: Right. That's what it seemed like at the time. But I was so wrong. It was such a huge mistake.

Michael: Where did you go?

Sharon: A lot of places.

Michael: You didn't want anyone to find you.

Sharon: Frankly, um, I was such a mess, I, um... I thought about killing myself.

Sharon: Maybe that's what I was doing that night in Denver, trying to drink myself to death.

Michael: I take it something happened while you were under the influence.

Sharon: One night, uh, I was at my hotel bar just getting smashed. Obviously this was a low point, and, uh... I mean, I had just... had abandoned my family. I had just destroyed my life. I didn't feel like I had a reason to live. And suddenly, uh, there was this guy sitting next to me at the bar. And he was, um, so sweet and so sensitive, and he didn't seem to be judging me, and I needed that so desperately at the time.

Michael: You and this man did you have an affair?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jack: And now you want to salvage something?

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, I do. I, uh, I think that, um, you know, we could rise from the ashes like the phoenix or something. That's what I think we have. We have something immortal. I know that it's challenged right now, and--and we need space, but I don't want to give up on us.

Jack: If you had any idea how much I want to reach out to you now... hold you in my arms and tell you all is forgiven. I can’t.

Phyllis: Because it's not forgiven.

Jack: It's not forgiven. I don't know when it will be, if it will be. I don't know if I'm capable of getting over a betrayal like this.

Jack: If Jabot goes down...

Phyllis: Jabot's not gonna go down.

Jack: You don't know that. I don't know that. Look, if Newman actually goes to jail, that's not gonna fix my company. It'll make me sleep a hell of a lot better at night, but Jabot is hanging on by a thread. We need a miracle. And miracles don't grow on trees.

Phyllis: Well, I think Jabot will succeed. I'm gonna pray for that. Unless you don't want me to, because I'm too tainted.

Phyllis: I'll send for my things.

Phyllis: I love you.

Phyllis: You will always be in my heart.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sharon: An affair? Uh... no, I wouldn't call it that. Michael, what would you

Sharon: Well, it was, uh, it was late that night, and the bar was closin so, um, I agreed to let him walk me up to my room. He brought along a bottle, and he kept, um, urging me to drink more.

Michael: You we already intoxicated.

Sharon: And, , uh, he... I mean, we, uh, we started kissing. And he just seemed so sweet and so nice at first. So I... I let him u um...

Michael: You had intercourse.

Michael: Sorry.

Sharon: No, no, it's okay. I mean, um, you need to know what happened.

Sharon: I guess at the time, it was something I really needed. I mean, I was feeling alone and--and just desperate and confused.

Michael: Was that the end of it?

Sharon: Uh, no. He...

Michael: Take your time.

Sharon: Uh, he, uh... he got violent... outta nowhere.

Sharon: He started hitting me with his fists... (screaming) and calling me names. And he--he tried suffocating me with a pillow.

Sharon: And then afterwards, he, uh, he fell asleep, and my face-- it just looked like hamburger. And it was just... I-I got the hell outta there. I went to another hotel. And, um, that was when I knew I needed to come home.

Michael: So... why bring this up now? Why dredge it all up?

Sharon: Because he's here, Michael. I saw him.

Michael: In Genoa City?

Sharon: No. Yes. He's in Nick's office. He's in there. They're there right now. Are you starting to understand why I'm freaking?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nikki: Something that will make me happy. What is it?

Victor: I've asked our son to take over Newman Enterprises for the time being.

Nikki: You have?

Victor: Yes.

Nikki: Because of these business issues?

Victor: Right. Mm-hmm.

Nikki: Oh, Victor, I think that's wonderful.

Victor: I knew you would be pleased.

Nikki: Wow. I... this just proves what I've been saying all along. That in spite of what happened with you and your father; the trip to Toronto was a breakthrough for you and Nicholas.

Victor: M-m-hmm. As horrific as that meeting with my father was, as disappointing as it was... our boy came through when it counted the most, when I was the most devastated by that meeting with my father. He put his arm around my shoulder, led me away from the whole thing. My boy came through for me when I needed it the most. I'll never forget it.

Nikki: And now you're showing him the confidence that you have in him...

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: By asking him to fill your shoes for a little bit.

Victor: Right. After the trip to Toronto, I think he can handle things.

Nikki: Wow. Hmm. So all of Victoria’s concerns were for nothing.

Victor: Why do you say that?

Nikki: She didn't think this trip had accomplished anything, which is ridiculous, because you never would have given Nicholas this kind of responsibility before Toronto.

Victor: Well, I'm sure not everyone is happy about my son and I getting closer again.

Nikki: Well, maybe not, but I think in Victoria’s case, there could be a little bit of sibling rivalry.

Victor: You think she feels a little left out?

Nikki: It's very possible.

Victor: Mm-hmm. You know, she's become very protective of me lately, and I find that very touching.

Nikki: The main thing is this long father/son battle is over. Oh, I just feel like the weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders.

Victor: Good. On that note, my sweetheart, I'm going to the club.

Nikki: Well, don't be late, okay?

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: 'Cause I've really missed you.

Victor: You have?

Nikki: Mm-hmm.

Victor: Mmm. (Telephone rings) (ring)

Nikki: Hello.

Jack: It's Jack. Is Victor there right now?

Nikki: No.

Jack: Stay right where you are. I'm on my way over.

Nikki: Okay. Fine.

Jack: It's time you knew, Nikki. It's time you knew the truth about your husband.
