Jack: You turned your father in?
Nick: And his bagman-- Michael Baldwin.
Jack: Wow. Nick, this is huge.
Nick: So is bribery, especially on the scale those two were doing it.
Jack: You don't have to sell me on that. I just... are you okay with this?
Victor: Son? That was pretty smooth, wasn't it?
Nick: Was that you flying again?
Victor: I loved it. You should try it some day.
Nick: It's not really my thing.
Victor: He'd let you.
Nick: Dad, let me ask you a question.
Victor: Uh-huh.
Nick: You said you wouldn't go on this trip unless I came with you, even though this whole thing is about you seeing your dad.
Victor:
Well, we're on our way to
Nick: You a little scared about seeing him?
Victor: I'm not really scared of anything, you know?
Nick: But you don't know what it's gonna be like.
Victor: All I know is that Albert Miller did me more harm than anyone has ever done.
Victor: And he did it consciously, without regard to the consequences. I certainly don't intend to embrace a man like that.
Nick: Yet here we are on our way to see him.
Victor: Yeah, but we're doing that because of your mother, you know, pure and simple.
Nick: You sure about that?
Victor: Oh, yeah. Absolutely sure about that. And when we get there, we'll say hello, and then we'll say good-bye. And you're the witness. You'll tell your mother the mission was accomplished. Then I can wash my hands of that man forever.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kay: Oh, dear, dear Victor. My God, it must have been a shock to find out that his father was still alive.
Nikki: Oh, yes. But I felt very strongly that he go see him while he has the chance.
Kay: Are you hoping they'd find some sort of closure?
Nikki: Katherine, I'm hoping for a lot of things.
Kay: Such as what?
Nikki: Well, I pushed so hard for Nicholas to go on this trip.
Kay: Darling, I wouldn't worry about it, for heaven's sake. I mean, some time alone together is exactly what they need.
Nikki: I know, but what kind of time alone? I mean, Victor's gonna go through a very intense experience. I know he doesn't think so. He thinks he's gonna walk in, meet his father with no reaction. But I highly doubt it's gonna be that way.
Kay: Well, we'll simply have to wait and see how the trip turns out, and do a lot of praying for the best.
Nikki: Yeah.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris: Danny Romalotti. What a mindblower. (Doorbell rings)
Chris: Oh, no. I don't think I can handle another surprise-- not today.
Chris: (Chuckles) this I can handle.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mary: What in the Sam hill?
Paul: Mom, what are you doing here? I wasn't expecting you until next Sunday.
Mary: The trip was cut short.
Paul: Why? What happened?
Mary: Never mind that. I want to know what I just walked in on here.
Lauren: Isn't it obvious?
Mary: The only thing that's obvious, Lauren, is you.
Lauren: Ooh, very nice. Score one for Mary.
Paul: Come on, you two, please. Let's not start this again.
Mary: It's bad enough my entire week was ruined because of food poisoning.
Paul: Are you ill?
Mary: No, I'm not, but half the people in my tour group are. Everyone who had fish at the welcome dinner got sick as a dog. So they sent us all home.
Paul: Oh, I'm so sorry. I know how you look forward to this. She looks forward to this retreat every year.
Mary: Look, don't think you can stand there and make idle chitchat so that I'll forget what I just walked in on. I want answers, Paul, and I want them now.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lynne: I was just in the neighborhood, and I took a chance that you might be home.
Chris: Yeah, home and up to my eyeballs in work.
Lynne: Well, how's the new job?
Chris: Uh, it's different, exciting. The D.A.'s office is definitely keeping me hopping.
Lynne: Must put a damper on your personal life.
Chris: Who has time for a personal life?
Lynne: That reminds me. I was really sorry to hear you turned down Paul’s proposal.
Chris: Lynne, I really don't need anyone second-guessing me.
Lynne: I don't mean to interfere.
Chris: Then don’t.
Lynne: Chris, I just want you and Paul to be happy. You fought so long and so hard to find your way back to each other, and now this. I'm just trying to make some sense of it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raul:
J.T.: Married couples, huh?
Raul: Damn it. Listen, you can't stay in there forever.
J.T.: Dude, give it a rest, all right?
Raul: She's been locked in her room all damn night.
J.T.: You can't really blame her, can you, after what you and her folks pulled?
J.T.: Want some pizza?
Raul:
No, I don't want any pizza. I want
J.T.: Well, why don't you let her cool down a little bit, man? Leave things alone. Maybe in the morning she'll--
Raul: I don't want to leave things alone! I want to talk to her about this now, okay?!
J.T.: Raul, take it easy, okay? Getting frustrated is not gonna help anything.
Raul:
Raul: We need to talk first.
Raul: Yes, we do! Did you hear me?
J.T.: Raul. Raul, leave her alone.
Raul:
You stay out of this, okay? You want to leave,
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bobby: Arnie. Arnie. Arnie, listen to me, okay? The feathers are fine, okay? The balloons you can see through. The leather one's fine. She loves the leather one. Just get it here right away. I know its short notice, but just get it here. All right, I'll take care of you. Bye.
Jill: Am I interrupting?
Bobby: No, not at all. Come on in.
Jill: So... this is marsino's.
Bobby: Yeah, so what do you think?
Jill: Well, it's not exactly what I expected. You have entertainment.
Bobby: Oh, yeah-- a little singing, a little dancing, that kind of thing.
Jill: Strippers.
Bobby: Uh... yeah. But I like to refer to them as exotic dancers.
Jill: Yeah, I'm sure you do.
Bobby: Are you shocked?
Jill: (Laughs) it takes a little more than a naked woman to shock me, Bobby. What?
Bobby: Oh, you just look a little different.
Jill: It's probably 'cause I'm sober.
Bobby: Hey, you look good in any condition.
Jill: You're sweet. Boy, it sure is quiet around here.
Bobby: Yeah. It won't be for long. As of tomorrow night, we're back in business.
Jill: Oh, congratulations.
Bobby: Thanks.
Jill: Yeah, I bet it gets pretty crazy around here when the show's on, huh?
Bobby: Oh, yeah.
Jill: Just trying to picture it.
Bobby: Well, it's not the kind of entertainment for ladies.
Jill: No, I guess not.
Bobby: So what can I do for you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nikki: Oh, enough about my problems. Tell me, how is it living in a hotel?
Kay: Oh, my dear, it's very strange. I wake up every single morning thinking I'm going to be in my own bed.
Nikki: Yeah, I'm sure you do. Have you seen much of Jill?
Kay: No, not really. Every time I do, I could just cry.
Nikki: Why?
Kay: Oh, she's totally redecorating my home.
Nikki: What?!
Kay: Oh, yes, and trying to erase any evidence that I ever lived there.
Nikki: Well, I hope you put your foot down.
Kay: Well, my dear, I'm afraid I gave up that option when I volunteered to move out.
Nikki: Katherine that is nonsense. It's your house. If you don't want her making changes, you have every right to say so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paul: Look, mom. I'm getting my own place. And I thought, since you were not supposed to be here, it would be all right if I stayed a few days until I found something.
Mary: Your own place. What happened with you and Christine?
Paul: Nothing I want to get into right now.
Lauren: You know what? It's getting late. Your mother's been on a long trip. I'm sure she's exhausted. So I'm just--I'm gonna go.
Mary: Just not so fast, young lady. I want to know what you were doing here in the first place.
Paul: No, Lauren’s right. It is getting late.
Mary: Answer the question.
Paul: She was helping me move some stuff. Thank you.
Mary: Oh, what I walked in on didn't look like someone helping you move.
Paul: We were taking a breather.
Lauren: A heavy breather.
Mary: Oh, maybe you find this amusing, Lauren.
Paul: Please. This is really not the time.
Mary: (Laughs) what better time with the other woman standing right here?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris: It's not the right time for me to be thinking about marriage.
Lynne: But to let Paul go so far as to move out.
Chris: I tried to get him to stay, Lynne. He refused, unless we were going to live differently than I was ready to live.
Lynne: You're talking about--
Chris: I'm-- I am not talking.
Lynne: Okay. But now you're all alone.
Chris: I'm not alone. I have friends. As a matter of fact, one from my past came by right before you did.
Lynne: Really? Who?
Chris: Never mind. I shouldn't have said anything.
Lynne: Okay. Look, Chris, I know you and Paul have been through some really serious stuff. But I am convinced the feelings between you two are as strong as ever.
Chris: Yeah, maybe too strong.
Lynne: What does that mean?
Chris: Paul and I have done terrible damage to each other in the name of love. We have caused each other so much pain. We can't just brush it aside.
Lynne: I know. Paul's been doing a lot of soul searching, but he still wants to marry you.
Chris: He wants to work on our issues after the honeymoon.
Lynne: And you don't?
Chris: No. I think its way too risky.
Lynne: Or maybe you'd just rather concentrate on your new job and put things with Paul on hold until a more convenient time.
Chris: Damn it, Lynne. This has nothing to do with work or putting things on hold. It is about our relationship and whether or not it's healthy.
Lynne: What are you talking about?
Chris: I'm talking about the fact that maybe Paul and I aren't right for each other anymore.
Lynne: You know, maybe that's true. Maybe you two weren't meant to grow old together. But I would think after investing so much in it that you wouldn't give it up without a fight.
Chris: You don't think there's been a fight? Look at what our love did to us. We have both done things that I never would have believed. Maybe Paul has come to peace with this, maybe he's been able to brush it under the carpet, but I haven’t. I can't, not yet anyway.
Lynne: And what if Paul decides not to wait for you?
Chris: I don't know. I haven't even thought about that.
Lynne: There are other women who find him attractive.
Chris: Are you talking about anyone specific?
Lynne: Lauren Fenmore. She's already circling him like a vulture.
Chris: So they've been close for a long, long time. I mean, it would only be natural for him to turn to her.
Lynne: Yeah, there's a lot more than friendship on Lauren’s mind.
Chris: So what if there is?
Lynne: Oh, come on, Chris. Be honest, at least with yourself. Can you tell me you're not the least bit worried that Paul might start to move on with Lauren?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raul: Look, I understand that you're upset with me.
J.T.: Guys, chill out. Come on.
Raul:
Raul: Listen, I was never trying to control--
J.T.: Hey, look. For what it's worth--
J.T.:
I think you're wrong about where Raul was coming from. Marsino's a user. Why
can't you see that,
Raul: Babe, relax for two seconds, please.
J.T.: Guys, time out, all right? This is getting us nowhere. Let's just relax. I mean, eat some pizza--
Raul: Would you butt out, J.T.?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Victor: I'm Victor Newman. You don't know who I am.
Man: I know who you are. You're from Newman Enterprises. You're an important man.
Victor: But that is not all. I also--
Man: You're also my son.
Victor: You know?
Man: Yes.
Victor: How?
Man: (Clears throat)
Man: I read about you in the paper, heard you made a mark for yourself. I looked at that picture and I said, "that's my boy. That's my Christian. I don't care what he calls himself now, that's-- that's my boy."
Victor: And you never tried to contact?
Man: No.
Victor: Do you know what misery you have caused those you left behind?
Man: Of course I do.
Victor: What do you mean, "Of course I do"? You say that as if I'd asked you if you knew what day it was. Misery isn't just a word, you know. It's a mother abandoned, left alone with her two boys...
Victor: Too poor to raise them, so that she had to put one of them into an orphanage. That was me! Do you know what that did to my mother?
Man: You ran away from that orphanage. You didn't let them destroy you.
Victor: You're damn right I ran away from that orphanage. I made a life of my own. Everything I accomplished, I accomplished with my bare hands, you got that?! Because there was no one around to teach me how to be a man, because you were not around!
Man: You-- you were better off learning that someplace else.
Victor: How dare you say that? How dare you say that? You know what happens when you abandon a child? You scar that child for the rest of his life. Because forever that child asks himself if he is worth loving or if perhaps he would be better off dead. That's what you did.
Man: I know. Christian, I was--
Victor: Don't you call me that.
Man: I'm sorry... Victor. I was too young to be a father.
Victor: Any father is better than no father.
Man: Well, I was the worst kind. I was the one who ran away, couldn't face his own problems, his own failures. Can you imagine the kind of man I was? I couldn't take care of my own boys.
Victor: I've asked myself that question all my life.
Man: I had to leave.
Victor: Well, you never tried once to find those you left behind, did you?
Man: Couldn't bring myself to face the family that I'd let down.
Victor: How sickeningly weak of you.
Man: Yes. How weak. And how strong you are. I bet you have a better-- better relationship with your son Nicholas.
Victor: Why do you say that?
Man: Because you were older and wiser when you had your boy. Men learn from their mistakes. And I think that if I had another son like you...
Man: I'd be a better father, at least that's what I tell myself.
Victor: Don't you try to make me feel sorry for you.
Man: No, I don’t. I'm proud of you, very proud of you.
Man: You don't have the regrets that I have when you're weak and dying. You know, when you've reached the end of your life, and you realize that some people might have been better off if you had never l lived.
Victor: That isn't true.
Man: Oh, it's true.
Victor: You gave me life.
Man: I failed you. I failed you. You have every reason to hate me.
Victor: I can't hate you anymore, because you're my father.
Victor: Father. My father.
Nick: Dad. Dad.
Victor: Yeah.
Nick: You okay?
Victor: I'm all right.
Victor: I'm all right.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jill: I just stopped by to thank you.
Bobby: For what?
Jill: For our little talk last night.
Bobby: Well, I was just glad I could help.
Jill: Well, good, 'cause I think I stopped by for more of the same.
Bobby: Really? Well, I'd offer you a drink, but I'm assuming...
Jill: Oh, no. No. No. You're assuming right. Alcohol is the last thing I need tonight.
Bobby: Well, it's quite a coincidence you stopping by.
Jill: Why do you say that?
Bobby: Well, earlier today, I stopped by your house.
Jill: Oh, I had no idea. I'm sorry I wasn't home.
Bobby: Hmm, well, guess what. I met your mother.
Jill: What? Katherine was there?
Bobby: Oh, yeah.
Jill: Oh, my God. I hope she wasn't horrible to you.
Bobby: No, I survived. But I got to tell you, she's quite the character. I don't think she particularly liked me.
Jill: Why, was she rude?
Bobby: No. I can handle it. But I tell you, for a mother that gives you so much trouble; she really looks out for you. Obviously she didn't like the idea of you hanging out with the likes of me.
Jill: Oh, damn her. I am so sorry, Bobby.
Bobby: Oh, forget it, Jill. I tell you, I'd want a dame like that on my side in a street fight.
Jill: No, insulting you was inexcusable.
Bobby: It didn't bother me a bit. I'd like to kind of maybe want to see if I can get along with her, just see if I could win her over. 'Cause I bet I could.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kay: Oh, Nikki, it's not that simple.
Nikki: Why not? You said all along that you’re moving out was just temporary.
Kay: Well, yes, but that's because I hoped she would miss me.
Nikki: Well, even so, that doesn't give her the right to destroy a beautiful house.
Kay: Oh, come on. It's not the redecorating that upsets me. It's just-- she is drinking. She is irrational. She is compulsive.
Nikki: My God, she's drinking?
Kay: And like a fish, according to what I've heard from other people.
Nikki: What people?
Kay: Well, I went to the house when Jill wasn't there. And while I was there, this man came by, uh...
Nikki: Who?
Kay: A Bobby Marsino. Evidently the two of them had just met. And somehow I guess he felt it was perfectly all right to stop by the house without an invitation.
Nikki: Marsino. How do I know that name? Oh, yes. I talked with him briefly at the gala. I have to say I don't care for him.
Kay: Well, the man's polite enough. I mean, certainly he has a great deal of charm, but he's not the sort of man that--that I think Jill should associate with. Because the man runs a gentlemen's club where the women take off their clothes--
Nikki: Hey, hey, watch it. Don't forget who you're talking to.
Kay: Oh, my God, that's right. That's how you met Victor Newman. Oh, Nikki.
Nikki: Yeah, well, this Marsino character is no Victor Newman. Aren't you getting a little overprotective of Jill? She is a grown woman.
Kay: It's only because she's not thinking clearly at all these days.
Nikki: Wow. You really have come to think of Jill as your daughter, haven't you?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris: If Paul wants to spend time with Lauren, he has every right. Who am I to say he shouldn't?
Lynne: It really doesn't bother you?
Chris: I'm not thrilled. But I'm in no position to interfere. Besides, if he does end up romantically involved with Lauren, it certainly answers the question whether we belong together.
Lynne: Not necessarily.
Chris: The point is, Paul has to do what's best for him and I have to do what's best for me.
Lynne: Chris, I hope you know that I'm here as your friend. I care about both you and Paul.
Chris: I know that.
Lynne: I really felt I needed to give you a heads up.
Chris: And you've done that. Personally, I find it hard to believe that Paul’s next love will be Lauren Fenmore.
Lynne: Yeah, or anybody else. You need to get back to work. Take care.
Chris: Okay. Thanks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lauren: Now wait just a minute.
Paul: Lauren, please, would you let me handle this?
Mary: Well, I wish someone would. Surely you've got to realize how many questions I must have.
Paul: It's not that big a deal.
Mary: You're obviously having problems with Christine. Did you break up? Is this permanent? Whose idea was it for you to move out?
Paul: Would you stop with all the questions? Chris and I need some time to sort things out.
Mary: Oh.
Paul: I need space, time and privacy to do that.
Mary: Oh.
Paul: So I would appreciate it if you would realize that I need to do this on my own.
Mary: Have you said as much to Lauren?
Lauren: And what does that mean?
Mary: It means that you're here insinuating yourself and making moves on him.
Paul: Mom, don’t.
Mary: It's clear as day what's going on here. She smelled trouble between you and Christine and took advantage.
Paul: Stop it. Stop it.
Lauren: This is such garbage.
Mary: Oh, no, it's not. It's typical of the way you operate.
Paul: Mom, please! That is enough.
Mary: You've barely moved out, and already she's got you cornered-- kissing you, trying to seduce you.
Paul: For your information... you know what? You already have too much information, so forget it.
Mary: Paul, please. Please, not Lauren. Anyone but Lauren.
Lauren: Well, thank you very much.
Mary: Son, can't you see what a mistake this would be? And you just said you needed to be alone.
Paul: Right. So now that you're home, I really shouldn't be here.
Mary: Paul. Paul, no, I didn't mean that. Don't change your plans. You could still sleep in your old room.
Paul: I don't think so, mother.
Mary: Where will you go? Surely not... oh, dear God. You're not thinking about staying with Lauren.
Paul: You know, that's really none of your business.
Mary: But, Paul--
Paul: Mom, I'll be back later to pick up my things. Come on, Lauren. Let's get out of here.
Lauren: With pleasure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kay: Oh, Nikki, Nikki, Jill is my daughter.
Nikki: Well, its one thing to know that intellectually but quite another to feel it in your heart.
Kay: Well, you're right. More and more I do see her that way.
Nikki: The question is, does she see you as her mother?
Kay: I really can't answer that, but from the way she treats me, I highly suspect she doesn’t.
Nikki: This may sound strange, but I think maybe the problems that you're having could be a good sign.
Kay: How do you figure that?
Nikki: Well, they might mean that you're finally starting to acknowledge your relationship, that you have very deep feelings for her, but you have to be careful, Katherine.
Kay: About what?
Nikki: All these new maternal instincts you're feeling towards her-- if you let them take over, and you get too overprotective, I mean, she may view that as interfering in her life. You may end up alienating her even more, and, Katherine, that would just destroy any chance you two could have of really being close.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jill: Bobby, trust me, you do not want to become friends with Katherine Chancellor.
Bobby: Why not? She sounds like she's lots of fun.
Jill: Yeah, you weren't kidding when you said you liked antiques, huh?
Bobby: (Chuckles)
Jill: No, I'll tell you, the trouble is that the woman constantly tries to control me.
Bobby: Well, would you rather have a mother who didn't care enough to even notice you?
Jill: Hey, it's not like I'm a child. And then this stupid idea of hers to give me time and space to let me be on my own-- it is so hypocritical.
Bobby: Jill, you got to lighten up. It's not that bad.
Jill: It is that bad, because every single time I think we're capable of having a close relationship, she goes and does something like this. I mean, for her to treat you that badly, particularly when she doesn't even know you...
Bobby: It's okay. I handled it.
Jill: Oh, my God. Listen to me. Aah! You know, I came over here to thank you for being so nice to me, and now I'm ranting and raving about mother and her behavior. I'm sorry. I... I'm sorry. Surely there's something else we can talk about.
Bobby: Jill, don't apologize. Everybody needs to blow off some steam every now and then.
Jill: Yeah, yeah. You know what? I've changed my mind. I'll take that drink now.
Bobby: (Chuckles) you don't mean that.
Jill: Well, I do, but I won't. Okay, no drink. I'm gonna go.
Bobby: Well, what about the talk we're gonna have?
Jill: Rain check?
Bobby: All right. You sure you're gonna be okay?
Jill: Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you, thank you. (Muttering) that stupid, insufferable old biddy. Oh, mother, how long are you going to do this to me? When are you going to leave me the hell alone?
Bobby: Jill, you gonna be all right?
Jill: Yeah. I'm fine, thank you.
Bobby: All right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raul:
Raul: You don't love stripping.
J.T.: Guys, come on!
Raul: You never have.
Raul: Nobody gives a damn whether or not you're singing at that stupid club! The only thing these animals care about at at place is you naked. They don't care about you singing.
J.T.: Raul, Raul, stop, man. You're stressing yourself out way too much.
Raul: I'm fine!
J.T.: You're not fine. Look at you.
Raul:
J.T., I'm trying to settle something with
J.T.: What is wrong with this guy?
Raul:
No, no, damn it,
J.T.: Here, drink this, man.
Raul: Get the hell out of my face!
Raul: I said no! Damn it, with the--
J.T.: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
J.T.: Raul!
J.T.: Raul, wake up, man. Should I call an ambulance?
J.T.: Raul!
J.T.: Raul!
J.T.: Okay.
J.T.: All right.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick: What's going on?
Victor: I just had a dream, I guess.
Nick: You were saying, "my father." You were dreaming about him, weren't you?
Victor: Yeah, I was.
Nick: Can I get you anything, a glass of water?
Victor: No, thanks, son. That's nice, thank you.
Nick: You know, we don't have to do this. We could tell Wally to turn the plane around and go back home.
Victor: No, no. I can deal with this.
Nick: I'm just thinking, if you're this emotional, and we're not even there yet, maybe we shouldn't do it.
Victor: No, no, no, no. I can handle it.
