(Knocking on door)
Nick: You wanted to see me?
Victor: Yeah. Come in, son. Sit down.
Nick: What's up?
Victor: We haven't talked for awhile. I just thought we'd touch base. How are things going?
Nick: Fine.
Victor: Really?
Nick: Yeah. So this is about Sharon being back in town, right?
Victor: Your Mother told me, right.
Nick: And you wanted to see where things stand between us so you could put your two cents in.
Victor: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I have no intentions of getting involved in your personal life, all right?
Nick: Good.
Victor: But I am worried about your state of mind, son.
Nick: You don't need to worry about that.
Victor: Well, I don't mean to interfere.
Nick: Well, considering everything that's gone down between us, I expect you not to interfere.
*******************************************************************
Phyllis: Hey, baby, you know what? You should be wearing a little white apron.
Jack: Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. Roll?
Brad: Thank you. Yeah, you know, Jack, if you're gonna serve, you ought to at least look the part.
Phyllis: I know. The women centuries ago used to wear uniforms when they served their men.
Jack: Is that right? Well, welcome to the modern times.
Brad: That's your wife's point exactly.
John: I'm on my son's side.
Phyllis: Thank you, brad. By the way, nice to see you here this morning.
John: No son of mine is gonna wear an apron.
Jack: You tell them, Dad.
Phyllis: You guys are cavemen.
John: You got that right.
Jack: Would her majesty care for a roll or a muffin?
Phyllis: Yes, I would like a muffin.
Jack: Okay.
Phyllis: Thank you.
Jack: There you are.
Phyllis: Now off to the scullery with you.
Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here. Put those over there, brad
Phyllis: You can't get good service. They think they own the place.
Jack: Dad?
John: Yes, sir.
Jack: You seem to be somewhere else. What's on your mind?
John: Well, there is something I want to talk to you about.
Phyllis: Oh, you know what? Jack told me that Mackenzie and Billy are engaged or something. That's sweet.
Brad: I assume you're still not too happy about that, John.
John: No, I'm not, brad, but I don't see how I can stop it, at least not yet.
Phyllis: So they're going through with it?
John: Oh, yes. It's on the books for next month.
Phyllis: Oh, boy. I bet Jill's flipped out.
John: Well, unfortunately, Jill has bigger problems
Jack: Yeah?
John: Yeah, but she doesn't know it yet.
*********************************************************************
(Knock on door)
Jill: Come in.
Larry: Is this a bad time?
Jill: Uh, sort of.
Larry: Well, then I'll just have to make this quick. I have something for you.
Jill: What is that?
Larry: Where I come from, they call it a present.
Jill: Aren't you thoughtful.
Larry: It's no big deal.
Jill: It is. It is to me. I really needed this. I haven't smiled all morning.
Larry: Really? What's got you so down?
Jill: Oh, I went over to the boutique last night to see Billy.
Larry: And that didn't turn out so good.
Jill: No. It was a disaster. I mean, I really went over there intending to hold my tongue about that... whole wedding nightmare.
Larry: Whoa, whoa, whoa. You hold your tongue?
Jill: Well, I meant to, okay? But Mackenzie was there, and I-I lost it. And to top it all off, I didn't even get to tell Billy what I went over there to tell him. Doesn't matter, though. He's probably already found out from Brittany.
Larry: Found what out?
******************************************************************
Anita: Thanks for being here.
Lauren: Good morning. Hello. Good morning.
J.T.: Sorry, Lauren. I was spacin' out a little bit.
Lauren: Well, I just got off the redeye. If anyone should be spacing, it should be me.
J.T.: I've got a lot on my mind, I guess.
Lauren: Any wholesome thoughts?
J.T.: Part of me is wondering if I'm crazy.
Lauren: Oh, please. Let me save you the trouble.
J.T.: No, I'm serious, Lauren.
Lauren: Just tell me you're not picturing Anita Hodges in these.
********************************************************************
Ashley: Hi. I'm sorry I kept you waiting.
Colleen: It a all right.
Ashley: Are you okay?
Colleen: Not really.
Ashley: What's wrong?
Colleen: Only everything.
Ashley: Did something happen at school?
Colleen: No. But I got there and I had to leave. I just couldn't handle sitting in my classes. Will you call them and tell them I'm excused, please?
Ashley: Well, first, I need to know what's going on, honey. Are you still not feeling well?
Colleen: What?
Ashley: Last night when you got home from the Lodge with your Dad, you went straight to your room. He said you had an upset stomach.
Colleen: That's what I told him.
Ashley: So you didn't really?
Colleen: I just wanted to be alone.
Ashley: I'd love to help you, but I can't unless you let me in. I'm sure that whatever it is, it's not that bad.
Colleen: Look, don't say it's not that bad, because it is. It's the worst thing that's happened in my entire life.
Ashley: Does this have to do with J.T.?
Colleen: I love him so much, Ashley. How could he do this to me?
************************************************************************
Cody: There you go.
Victoria: Hey.
Cody: Hey, Vicki. You looking for someone?
Victoria: Yeah. Nicholas. Is he around?
Cody: No, he left earlier. He went to the office.
Victoria: Oh, all right.
Cody: Is something wrong?
Victoria: No. I just wanted to talk to him here, you know, away from Newman Enterprises. It's a little...
Cody: Dicey.
Victoria: Yeah. Yeah, it is.
Cody: Well, hey, how about a little caffeine fix?
Victoria: Okay, sure.
Cody: So what'll it be?
Victoria: Just coffee, black.
Cody: All right. Coming right up.
Victoria: Has my brother been in at all today?
Cody: You know, it was the same as yesterday. He comes in early, checks in at the end of the day. I don't know, it's like his normal schedule lately.
Victoria: That's an interesting word.
Cody: What's that?
Victoria: "Normal." In the Newman family, I'm not sure what that means anymore.
*************************************************************************
Brad: You know, I would think the idea of her son marrying Katherine's granddaughter would be enough trouble for Jill.
John: Oh, it is, but she's got more. Or at least I'm pretty sure she does.
Phyllis: Okay, hey, hey, hey. It's not polite to gossip, so tell us everything.
John: It's not very funny.
Phyllis: Even better.
John: Well, look. Everybody knows that Jill hired a search agency to find her birth mother.
Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brad: They actually found the woman?
John: She thinks they did, and the woman they found says she's her birth mother. But I happen to know, or I am pretty sure I know, she couldn't possibly be her birth mother.
Jack: I thought you were gonna look into this a little further.
John: Oh, I am. It's on the menu today.
Phyllis: Wait a second. You knew about this. You didn't tell me?
Jack: Dad told Ash and me, yeah.
Phyllis: So I assume you haven't told Jill yet, right?
Jack: Well, obviously not, or we'd have heard screaming all across town.
John: Look, I know the idea of Jill suffering is a great source of amusement for you all.
Brad: Oh, come on. That's not fair, John.
Jack: We don't want her to suffer that much.
Phyllis: No. No, of course not. Listen, John, you have to admit that Jill is the cause of her own problems.
Jack: I mean, there is a certain farcical nature to the way she conducts her life.
John: All right, Jack, stop it. Look, I brought this up because I wasn't sure how to proceed, not so you could have a good laugh at Jill's expense.
Phyllis: Okay.
Jack: Forgive me, Dad. What are your options?
Brad: You know, John, whether you're right or wrong, are you sure you want to get involved? You know what they say-- no good deed...
Phyllis: Hey, I gotta say something. Why would this woman want to pass herself off as Jill's Mother?
Jack: I think she smells money.
Brad: Maybe she doesn't know who she is.
John: Oh, no. She's not crazy. She knows exactly what she's doing.
Phyllis: Then it's money.
Brad: Or she never had children.
Jack: If you didn't have kids and you met Jill, would that make you wish you had?
John: Look, you guys, you've been of no help today. And I didn't mean to turn this into a roast, but I am going to look into it further.
Jack: How?
John: The search agency. I know they're very good, and I know they're very careful, but there could be a mistake.
Phyllis: Oh, it is gonna be hard to tell Jill that this woman isn't her Mother now that she's latched onto her.
John: Unfortunately, she has, and believe me, it is going to be very tough to tell her.
Brad: Well, good luck, John.
Phyllis: Yes.
Jack: Yeah, let us know if we can help.
John: Oh, thank you. I will.
Phyllis: Poor Jill.
Jack: Yeah, poor Jill.
***********************************************************************
Larry: So what did you have to tell Billy that was so important?
Jill: Could we just talk about something else, please?
Larry: Yeah. Yeah, sure.
Jill: Ah, did I tell you I saw Charlotte yesterday?
Larry: Well, you two sure have been spending a lot of time together.
Jill: You know, I haven't known her very long, but I feel such a connection with her. I feel really comfortable with her. I think even if she weren't my Mother we'd be friends. She's got a lot of vitality for a woman her age and just a great sense of humor. She's really an extraordinary person. And I'm looking forward to you meeting her.
Larry: So you have no regrets about tracking her down?
Jill: Oh, not in the least. No, no, no. It's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Kind of makes me wonder, though, what it would have been like if Charlotte had raised me. Hopefully things would have been better for her.
Larry: What, she has some problems in her life?
Jill: Well, you know, Charlotte has that drinking problem, and, I mean, I've been really worried about that. But the good news is I got her to give me her flask.
Larry: What, like she can't go out and buy another one?
Jill: Oh, come on. That's very pessimistic.
Larry: Jill, I don't mean to be a downer, okay? But I've been around my share of drunks, and getting off booze is tough, okay? It's really tough.
Jill: I know it is. I'm aware of that. And maybe this is nothing more than a symbolic gesture on her part, but come on. It's a start, isn't it?
Larry: Yeah. Yeah, I guess.
Jill: What now?
Larry: Well, you just met the woman. I mean, why do you gotta go trying to change her right off the bat? If she's happy being the way she is--
Jill: What, do you think I should just stand by and do nothing?
Larry: No, that's not what I meant, okay? It didn't come out right. All I'm trying to say is maybe you should take things a little slower. Some people get put off by you or anyone coming on too strong.
Jill: Look, I appreciate your advice, Larry. I really do, okay? But Charlotte isn't just anybody. She is my Mother. It's my job to take care of her. And that is exactly what I intend to do.
**********************************************************************
J.T.: No, Lauren, I told you.
Lauren: I know. You don't want to do anything to hurt colleen.
J.T.: And I meant it.
Lauren: I'm sure you did at the time. I notice how you're not contradicting me.
J.T.: Can we please not talk about Mrs. Hodges? Please?
Lauren: Just don't tell me--
J.T.: No. No. It's not what you're thinking.
Lauren: What am I thinking?
J.T.: That I... you know...
Lauren: Made it with Brittany's Mother again?
J.T.: It was the exact opposite. I met her at the Lodge, and I told her we were history.
Lauren: Good.
J.T.: Well, believe me, I'm happy as Hell to be done with that. The whole thing was way too weird.
Lauren: Well, I'll tell you. Anita's life is very complicated.
J.T.: Still... man, how do I put this?
Lauren: I know. It's hard giving up.
J.T.: Lauren, the woman was hot for me. And if I've ever had doubts about older woman... look, it means a lot that you listen to me and you don't judge me.
Lauren: So tell me. Was it difficult dealing with Anita?
J.T.: She was, um...
Lauren: J.T.?
J.T.: Look, at the end, out of nowhere she plants this big kiss on me.
Lauren: At the Lodge?!
J.T.: Yeah, at the Lodge.
Lauren: That woman is just the soul of discretion.
J.T.: Well, I got pretty mad. I mean, what if somebody had seen us?
Lauren: Did she try and take the meeting upstairs?
J.T.: No. No. I didn't give her the chance.
Lauren: Meaning yes.
J.T.: I had my mind made up when I called her, Lauren.
Lauren: Are you having seconds thoughts now?
************************************************************************
Ashley: Do you feel like talking now?
Colleen: How could I be so wrong about him?
Ashley: What did J.T. do?
Colleen: I thought he loved me. I mean, he never exactly said it, but I-- I could tell by the way he looked at me.
Ashley: Colleen, what exactly is--
Colleen: Please don't say anything about this to my Dad. He'd be so angry.
Ashley: Well, obviously J.T. hurt you very badly.
Colleen: Please don't say "I told you so."
Ashley: I'm not gonna say "I told you so."
Colleen: But you're thinking it. You and Dad both warned me that I couldn't trust J.T., but I wouldn't listen. How could I be so stupid?
Ashley: Stop right there. You are not stupid.
Colleen: Then why do I feel like the world's biggest idiot?
Ashley: Does this have to do with another girl?
Colleen: Of course you'd assume that.
Ashley: Well, am I wrong? Let me take a stab at it. You tell me if I'm warm. J.T.'s seeing another girl, maybe from college, and you just found out about it?
Colleen: No.
Ashley: You didn't just find out about it?
Colleen: Look, I don't want to talk about this anymore.
Ashley: Okay. Okay. I'm not trying to pressure you.
Colleen: I knew J.T. and I would have some hassles. I mean, nothing's perfect, but out of all the things I could've imagined... God, this is just so weird.
****************************************************************************
Brad: You know, we really shouldn't laugh at Jill.
Jack: This whole birth Mother thing does mean a lot to her.
Phyllis: Yes. Yes, I for one would hate to find out that I was adopted that late in life.
Jack: Well, I just hope Dad's wrong about the woman.
Phyllis: Yeah, believe me, so does he.
Jack: So is Ash coming? I could make another pot of coffee.
Brad: No. No, she isn't. Colleen called and wanted to talk to her.
Jack: Two of them bonding?
Brad: Yeah. I guess there's a little bonding going on there. Well, thank you for breakfast. I have to get going.
Phyllis: Listen Bradley, could you wait, please?
Brad: What's up?
Phyllis: I want to talk to the two of you guys.
John: They're all in there.
Nikki: You're leaving?
John: Yes, I'll see you at the office.
Nikki: Good morning.
Brad: Nikki.
Jack: Nikki, what brings you here?
Nikki: Well, not what. Who. Your wife. Phyllis called and said that there's something very important we need to talk about, so here I am. What's this about? 1]
Jill: I'll tell you one thing-- if I had been raised by Charlotte, I never would have had the misfortune of meeting Katherine. What a glorious life that would be.
**********************************************************************
Larry: You're doing it again, Jill.
Jill: What?
Larry: All of these "what ifs," it's a waste of time.
Jill: I can't help it.
Larry: Well, do you really wish that you were somebody else?
Jill: In some ways, yes, I do.
Larry: Why? I mean, you are one of the most successful, exciting women that I have ever met. I mean, I'm amazed at all the things that you have done with your life.
Jill: Well, thank you, but maybe I would've done more.
Larry: Yeah, and maybe you would've done less. And that's the whole point. You'll never know for sure, so stop living in the past. It's not healthy. Look... why don't you open up that present I brought you?
Jill: That is a good idea. It's not my birthday.
Larry: Actually, you have a new birthday now-- the day you met your real Mom.
Jill: It's a photo album.
Larry: Yeah, I thought you could fill it up with pictures of you and Charlotte.
Jill: This is wonderful.
Larry: Jill, the photo album.
Jill: Oh, no. No, it is much more than that. This tells me that you are supporting me in all that. And you don't know what that means to me. Oh, thank you. Thank you, Larry. This is the perfect, perfect present.
Larry: Well, I'm glad you like it.
************************************************************************
Cody: I won't even ask what you're talking about.
Victoria: Well, you're gonna find out sooner or later. Sharon's back.
Cody: I know. Nick told me.
Victoria: Had he seen her?
Cody: Sounded like.
Victoria: He told you that?
Cody: Yeah. Didn't you think he would?
Victoria: Well, I'm just a little surprised that he hasn't come to me or Mother to vent, you know, his anger. Unless...
Cody: Unless what?
Victoria: Unless he's trying to avoid us.
Cody: Why would he do that?
Victoria: What did he tell you about seeing Sharon?
Cody: Come on, Vicki.
Victoria: No. No, come on. It's a fair question.
Cody: Not in my book.
Victoria: Oh, so this is about you guys sticking together, right?
Cody: Look, he's my boss, but he's also my friend.
Victoria: Has Sharon been in?
Cody: I haven't seen her.
Victoria: Is there anything you can tell me?
Cody: Yeah. The way you're dressed today.
Victoria: What? What? What's wrong with the way I'm dressed?
Cody: Nothing. Except it's enough to drive a guy nuts.
Victoria: What?
***********************************************************************
Nick: Well, if that's it, I've got work to do.
Victor: Son, wait a minute.
Nick: There something else?
Victor: I'm trying to have a civil conversation with you. Why are you turning this into almost an argument?
Nick: I'm not arguing. I'm stating my opinion. I'm allowed to have on aren't I?
Victor: Despite what you may think, I value your opinions and I always have. But where do you think this anger and hostility that I feel in you is taking you?
Nick: You don't think I have reason to be upset?
Victor: What I think is you should get over it and move on, otherwise this attitude will affect other phases of your life.
Nick: You're not accusing me of not holding up my end here at work?
Victor: No, I'm not doing that. Your performance has been top-notch. I'm not worried about that.
Nick: You're not trying to sell me on this Satine Cosmetics idea again, are you? 'Cause you know how I feel about that.
Victor: No, son. What I had in mind is something more challenging than that.
Nick: And what's that?
Victor: Starting immediately, I'd like to start training you to take over Newman Enterprises.
Nick: You mean run the whole company?
Victor: Eventually, yes.
Nick: I know we've talked about this in the past.
Victor: I want to accelerate the process. I'll be your mentor. I'll guide you through all the phases of the operation.
Nick: What about Victoria?
Victor: Victoria has her own division. She now, with the purchase of Satine, needs to devote all of her time and energy to making that a success.
Nick: You know, we've always talked about running it together some day as a team. She's gonna think you're trying to push her out.
Victor: I will deal with your sister.
Nick: She's not gonna like it.
Victor: I said I'll deal with her. The question is-- are you interested?
***************************************************************************
Jack: You do realize, sweetheart, I have a meeting in a half an hour.
Phyllis: Yeah, I know. I won't keep you long.
Brad: Not that we don't want to hear what you have to say, of course.
Phyllis: Of course. So I guess you wonder why I've called you here.
Jack: Yeah, I think we've covered that much.
Phyllis: Well, I'll cut to the chase. Jabot's a great company. You make quality productions know how to distribute them.
Brad: I think we all know that. Do we know that?
Nikki: Yeah, but thanks for mentioning it.
Jack: Great to get a ringing endorsement from the competition, though.
Phyllis: I'm serious.
Jack: Are you saying you're ready to leave Newman and come work for the good guys?
Phyllis: No, we've already talked about that, Jack.
Jack: Okay, so what's this about?
Brad: Does this have something to do with Jill's birth mother?
Nikki: What?
Phyllis: Brad.
Nikki: What are you talking about?
Jack: You don't know this. Jill got some news recently that kind of rocked her world.
Phyllis: Jack. Jack. Jack. This is my dime. You're on my dime. You can talk to Nikki on your dime, okay?
Jack: Okay.
Phyllis: I mean, you guys were all in a hot little hurry to leave, so why don't you just pipe down and listen?
Brad: We're listening.
Phyllis: Jabot is spending a lot of time and energy on a new line of products to compete with Newman's Satine line.
Nikki: Well, we've got plenty of energy.
Phyllis: And you have the money, Nikki? Do you have a lot of that?
Brad: All right, what's this about, Phyllis?
Phyllis: I had a long chat with Victor.
Jack: Honey, stop right there. Are you sure you want to be talking to us about this?
Phyllis: Well, I'm talking about it, aren't I?
Jack: Okay, fine. It's your funeral.
Phyllis: No, Jack, that's my point. It's not. It's yours.
***********************************************************************
J.T.: Second thoughts? No, I did the right thing.
Lauren: But the right thing isn't always the fun thing.
J.T.: It's driving me crazy just thinking about it. Look, if I could be with colleen in that way, I would. But she isn't ready. She may think she is, but she isn't.
Lauren: And if you're determined to be the good guy and not cheat on her...
J.T.: I care about colleen a lot. Hell, I'm crazy about her. Maybe it took something like this with Anita to make me realize that she's worth the wait.
Lauren: I could say that I'm very proud of you right now.
J.T.: Don't. Don't, please.
Lauren: No, actually what I was going to say is that I think you need a plan. You know, some way to help you cope with these famous urges of yours.
J.T.: Yeah. Well, if you come up with anything besides cold showers, let me know. I'm a desperate man.
*************************************************************************
Ashley: You're starting to scare me. What did J.T. do? Colleen, did he hurt you physically?
Colleen: No, he'd never do anything like that.
Ashley: Thank God.
Colleen: He's always been so amazing to me. He was until he... I can't do it. I can't even say the words.
Ashley: Okay.
Colleen: I'm just, um... I'm not ready for anyone else to know.
Ashley: Okay, but when you are ready, you can come to me. I do remember what it's like, I mean, your first love. It could be so painful at times. I understand what you're feeling, sweetie.
Colleen: Like the whole world's crashing in on you?
Ashley: But it's not. I know that's so hard to believe when it hurts this badly. And I'm not even gonna tell you it's gonna be over tomorrow or the next day or even next week. It takes a long time to heal a broken heart.
Colleen: How long?
Ashley: Oh, honey, you are gonna get through this. In the meantime, there are things you can do to make it a little bit easier on yourself.
Colleen: Like what?
Ashley: Well, try not to be alone too much. 'Cause when you're alone, you're just gonna think about J.T. If you can, you should go out and have some fun with your friends.
Colleen: Right. Fun.
Ashley: Well, if you can't face them, then why don't you and I spend some time together? We don't have any kind of a serious conversation at all. We can just do girl stuff. We'll go to movies and go shopping and have lunch together.
Colleen: I'd like that.
Ashley: Okay. Well, you let me know when you're ready, all right? And we'll plan it. I'm sorry, honey. I gotta get back to work.
Colleen: Okay. Do I have to go back to school?
Ashley: No, I'll call and tell them that you won't be in today. But I meant what I said about being alone. Do you want to come back to Jabot with me?
Colleen: No, I think I'll stay here for awhile.
Ashley: Colleen, I don't know if it... okay. If you need anything at all, you call me.
Colleen: I will.
Ashley: Okay. Come here.
Colleen: Thank you.
Ashley: Anytime, sweetie. Take care.
Colleen: Bye.
************************************************************************
Cody: Sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong.
Victoria: Wow, you're blushing.
Cody: Who, me?
Victoria: Don't worry about it, Cody. I enjoy a compliment as much as the next girl. Thanks.
Cody: Look, I hope you understand why I can't discuss my conversations with Nick.
Victoria: I'm just worried about him. But I suppose that I shouldn't worry until I talk to him.
Cody: It's tough being the older sibling, isn't it?
Victoria: What do you mean?
Cody: Well, when you're kids, you're used to the younger ones looking to you for advice. Then one day, you're all grown up and it's like everyone for themselves.
Victoria: You sound like the voice of experience.
Cody: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm one of four. I'm the oldest.
Victoria: Wow, three siblings.
Cody: You know, there is one thing I can tell you that Nick said to me. It's, uh, not about Sharon, though.
Victoria: Who's it about?
Cody: I'm looking at her.
Victoria: Nicholas was talking about me?
Cody: Yeah, he thinks you work too hard.
Victoria: He should talk. He's a workaholic.
Cody: Still, he could be right.
Victoria: About me?
Cody: Yeah. When was the last time you went to dinner and a movie?
Victoria: Um, I... I don't know. Months. Years.
Cody: I rest my case. So why don't you let me do something about it?
Victoria: Are you asking me out on a date?
Cody: That depends.
Victoria: On what?
Cody: On whether or not you plan to say yes.
Victoria: F.Y.I., Cody, that's really not the right approach with me. You know, you just gotta throw yourself out there. Nothing risked, nothing gained.
Cody: Okay, then. Would you like to go to dinner and see a movie?
Victoria: That's better. That's good.
Cody: Yeah? How about tomorrow night?
Victoria: You know, it's really sweet of you to ask, but I have a ton of work to do. I really do.
Cody: What was that you said about "nothing risked, nothing gained"?
Victoria: All right. Sure. Tomorrow night it is.
Cody: All right. Hey, look, the coffee? It's on the house, compliments of Nick.
Victoria: Thanks.
Cody: Well, I better check on my customers. So if you'll excuse me?
Victoria: Okay. Sure. Okay.
************************************************************************
Jack: Sweetheart, please be careful. You are treading on very thin ice here.
Phyllis: No, Jack, that's my point. It's Jabot that's at risk.
Brad: You know what, Phyllis? We all have lots of experience dealing with Newman. You don't.
Jack: In short, he is a very big bag of very hot air. Sorry about that, Nikki. We are talking business here.
Nikki: You don't hear me complaining, do you?
Phyllis: No, what Victor is, Jack, is a big bag full of money. And his pockets go down to china. And he's determined to outspend Jabot until our Satine line wipes out your new produ--
Jack: I'm sure he has you convinced that we are all doomed, and... let me remind you, there's a lot of David and Goliath stories out there. You know why? Because you can't sell the public on an inferior product if they have a choice. If they have a well-made, well-priced, well-advertised--
Brad: All right, all right, can we just cut through the bull here? Jack, you said this is a business discussion. Phyllis, you're out of line. The Kellogg Company.
************************************************************************
Lauren: You know, the thing about celibacy... is it's a very positive experience. In fact, I think it's underrated.
J.T.: Yeah, if you're into torture.
Lauren: Listen to me, you're in love, right?
Really in love for the first time, true or false?
J.T.: True.
Lauren: Okay, so you've had sex, and you've had plenty of it. You have never made love. And, trust me, J.T., the difference can be mind-blowing.
J.T.: Yeah?
Lauren: Until you experience that, you haven't had the kind of closeness that's possible with another human being. So don't think of it as torture. Think of it as the exquisite anticipation of the sweetest moment of your life.
J.T.: Listen to you. You write poetry, too?
Lauren: If I did, it would knock your socks off.
J.T.: Yeah, I'll bet.
Lauren: So what do you think? What do you think about adjusting the old attitude? (Cell phone rings)
J.T.: Hey, gorgeous. We were just talking about you.
Colleen: Oh, yeah? With who?
J.T.: Anita. I'm at the boutique.
Colleen: Listen, I need to see you. Can you get away for a few minutes?
J.T.: I'll ask.
Colleen: It's really important. I'll be at our place. Meet me there in an hour, okay?
J.T.: Hello? You there?
Lauren: Colleen?
J.T.: Yeah. Would you mind if I took off for a little while? I'll make up the time later. I promise.
Lauren: Don't worry about it. I can handle things here.
J.T.: Cool. This is gonna be so good seeing her, you know? Maybe I should take her a present or something.
Lauren: You mean, besides you? That might be overwhelming.
J.T.: Yeah, well, I'll take my chances. But she's already seen everything here, though.
Lauren: You know, I think I have just what you want.
J.T.: Really.
Lauren: Yeah, it's at the other store. Why don't I have it sent over?
J.T.: Oh, Lauren, that would be great. Thank you. I need to run out and see somebody, but I'll swing back by and pick it up.
Lauren: Perfect.
J.T.: You really are the best. You know that? Thanks.

Jack: Brad, take it easy.
Brad: Oh, come on, Jack, you know she's out of line.
Phyllis: Wait a second. "Out of line"? Have I said something rude or destructive? All I said was you guys--
Brad: Yeah, we know what you said, Phyllis. We know what you said. Victor came to see us awhile ago, rattled his little saber. Now we didn't turn to jelly fast enough for him. So instead he's using you to send us a message.
Phyllis: No, no. That is not true.
Brad: Oh, come on.
Nikki: I'll tell you this. He would be very pleased to know that we're all fighting about this.
Phyllis: Jabot is operating hand to mouth, guys. I mean, can you not see there's some validity to what I'm saying?
Jack: All right, so Victor can outspend us. So what?
Phyllis: Well, then won't you reconsider? Jack, listen, there are little-guy-wins-all stories out there, but Satine has good products. They have very good products. And Victor has the money to--
Brad: You know what, Phyllis? We've heard it all. We've heard it all. Now Victor sent you here, didn't he? Just admit it.
Jack: Brad. Brad, relax. Take it easy.
Brad: Oh, come on, Jack. You think Phyllis thought of this herself?
Phyllis: You're being awfully quiet over there, Nikki. Is it because you have $35 million sunk into this company? 'Cause let me tell you, if I had that much money on the line, I'd be worried. You worried, Nikki?
*************************************************************************
Nick: That is quite an offer.
Victor: I want to make one thing clear, though.
Nick: What's that?
Victor: I've made this decision to train you to take over than I had anticipated. With the right attitude, I think you're up to the task.
Nick: The right attitude.
Victor: By that, I mean, you have a lot of things going on in your personal life.
Nick: It's nothing I can't handle.
Victor: What I meant to say is, I think it's time that you devote all of your energies... to business. You know, do something positive and creative.
Nick: Sounds reasonable, in theory, anyway.
Victor: Do you need some time to think about this?
Nick: I don't.
Victor: All right. Well, then we can start working on it as soon as possible.
Nick: Thanks, but no thanks.
Victor: What do you mean, "thanks, but no thanks"?
Nick: Even if I were interested in running this company, I certainly wouldn't want you as a mentor. So is that all?
Victor: Are you sure you don't want to think about this?
Nick: You have my answer.
