Sharon: This is my home.
Victoria: The hell it is.
Sharon: Why aren't you at work? I had no idea anyone would be here.
Victoria: Well, someone is, so you can just go, you can just go. No one
wants you here.
Sharon: Oh, I see. You speak for everyone now, do you?
Victoria: Get out, get out.
Sharon: You can get out, Victoria. I am not some intruder here.
Victoria: Yes, you are.
You left, remember?
That's the way you wanted it.
To hell with anyone else.
Sharon: Is Nick home? Is that why you're here?
Victoria: Don't even speak his name.
Sharon: Look, I know I have
a lot of explaining to do, okay?
Victoria: You know what, Sharon? No one cares. No one wants to hear it, least of all Nicholas. He's over you. Get it? He wants nothing more to do with you.
Sharon: I don't believe you.
Victoria: Fine, don't believe me. Just go. Go, and don't come back.
*******************************************************************
(Knock on door)
Nick: Come in.
Jack: Hey.
Nick: Jack, back again?
This is getting to be
a habit.
Jack: Yeah, well, I was in the neighborhood. I was thinking of ya. How's Cassie doing?
Nick: Well, physically, she's doing all right. Mentally and emotionally, she's struggling.
Jack: God, I'm sorry.
Nick: It's just
these damn nightmares
she's having.
She's afraid to sleep
'cause when she does,
she wakes up screaming
and terrified.
Jack: What are the nightmares about?
Nick: They're about her mother abandoning her.
Jack: Oh, God, that's gotta be so terrifying. Well, thank God she's got you.
Nick: I wish I could be enough.
Jack: Hey, you're doing
everything you can, right?
Nick: Yeah, but I still got a heartbroken kid.
Jack: Yeah.
Nick: Look,
let's talk about something else.
This is kinda depressing.
Jack: Well, actually, that's another reason I dropped by. I had visit from your dad. Boy, were you on the money.
Nick: What about?
Jack: Your feeling that he had a more personal agenda in buying Satine out from us. You were right. You were dead right.
**********************************************************************
(Knock on door)
Victor: Hello, Phyllis.
Phyllis: Hello. I don't know what this is about. Are you displeased with my work?
Victor: Actually, I've been very pleased with your work.
Phyllis: Well, thank you.
That's high praise
coming from you.
Victor: I asked you to come by because the next few weeks, a lot of things will be happening, a lot of things that could make your life somewhat difficult.
Phyllis: I don't understand.
Victor: Simply put, are you entirely certain that Newman Enterprises is where you want to be?
*********************************************************************
Paul: So how you doing over there? You okay?
Isabella: Yes, everything is under control.
Paul: 'Cause if you think you can handle it, uh, I should probably get over to the office and finish up things there.
Isabella: Sometimes
I forget how much harder
this is on you,
leaving behind your family
and your friends.
Paul: You know, I keep telling you that, uh, you're my family now-- you and Ricky.
Isabella: Uh-oh, little master's calling.
Paul: Yeah.
Isabella: (Giggles)
*******************************************************************
Chris: Well, I guess there's nothing left to say except good-bye, good luck, good everything.
Paul: Yeah, I guess so,
and, uh, listen,
forget what I said
about Michael.
I really do hope
he makes you happy.
I mean that.
Chris: I know you do, and the same for Isabella. Maybe once you're away from here in a new environment...
Paul: We'll reinvent ourselves.
Chris: Yeah.
Don't change too much.
Paul: Don't worry. I'm pretty much stuck the way I am.
Chris: That's not a bad thing.
Paul: Well, it is what it is.
Chris: We're getting awfully profound.
Paul: Yeah, no kidding.
Chris: Paul, I, um...
Paul: Oh, God, look at the time.
Chris: What time is it?
Paul: Well, it's, uh, it's, uh, time to go. Um, take care.
Chris: "Have a nice life" sounds like an insult to me.
Paul: Not if you don't mean it like that.
Chris: Well,
you know I
don't.
Chris: I hope you pick Hermosa Beach. I've always wanted to know someone who lived on a beach.
Paul: I'll keep that in mind.
Chris: Bye.
Paul: Bye.
Chris: Stop it, Chris,
just stop it.
Michael: Not a good sign, counselor.
Chris: What?
Michael: Talking to yourself. It can only mean one thing.
Chris: What's that?
Michael: A lady who is undecided.
Chris: I beg your pardon?
Michael: No,
I can't blame you.
So much to choose from,
so little time.
Chris: What on earth are you talking about?
Michael: Food, food, food, of course.
Chris: Oh, food, of course.
Michael: But the good news
is you no longer have to choose
because I've read your mind
and realized what you want
more than anything in the world
is Indian Cuisine.
Chris: If you say so.
Michael: Yeah, but a new place. I had them fax over the menu.
Chris: Mmm. You certainly went to a lot of trouble.
Michael: Hey,
nothing's too much trouble
for my best gal.
Chris: Hold on a second. I want to check something.
Michael: What, the, uh, caloric intake of Indian dishes?
Chris: No,
the Illinois requirements.
Michael: Requirements for what?
Chris: The waiting period. All right, let's see, here it is. Wow, only one day.
Michael: One day?
Chris: From the time we get our license. If we left tonight, we could be married by tomorrow.
*************************************************************************
Marissa: Hey, girl.
Lynne: Hi, I came as soon as I got your call.
Marissa: I got you a latte.
Lynne: Oh, thanks. So what's up? Good news, I hope.
Marissa: Not exactly.
Lynne: Marissa, come on.
Paul is due to leave for L.A.
With that witch
in a matter of days,
not to mention
that Chris is marrying Michael.
Marissa: You've done everything possible to try to convince Paul to see the light. I mean, you fought the good fight.
Lynne: For a good cause.
Marissa: But I think it's time to face reality.
Lynne: What does that mean?
Marissa: Admit there's nothing more that we can do. Just forget Isabella and Paul, forget Michael and Chris. We lost the battle, Lynne. It's time to move on.
***********************************************************************
Paul: Yeah, a few.
Isabella: I noticed you only circled 3- and 4-bedrooms.
Paul: Yeah, that's...
Isabella: Well,
can we afford that?
I mean, why do we need
that much room?
Paul: What, you think one bedroom is for my mother?
Isabella: If so, I understand.
Paul: But you wouldn't be thrilled?
Isabella: Sweetheart,
after everything
you're doing for me,
moving us clear across country
just so we can
make a fresh start,
I am fine with anything
that's gonna make this
easier for you.
Paul: Well, I certainly hope the day will come when, uh, I will want my mother to join us, but not until she changes her tune about our marriage.
Isabella: So why all the bedrooms? A home office?
Paul: Well, I don't know.
I was just thinking that--
Isabella: Thinking what?
Paul: Another baby.
Isabella: Are you serious?
Paul: I certainly wouldn't want Ricky to be an only child.
Isabella: I had no idea you felt this way.
Paul: I was hoping you'd feel the same.
Isabella: No, I do, I do,
I'm just surprised.
Paul: Okay, then it's settled?
Isabella: Yes, that's great. A new start, a new baby, and this time we can share in the pregnancy from beginning to end.
Paul: It's a deal.
So you hear that, little buddy?
Your mom and I are gonna
give you a brother or sister.
Isabella: Paul?
Paul: Yeah.
Isabella: I know I'm probably being silly, but I... just the way you focus on Ricky and now you want another child...
Paul: What?
Isabella: Children-- it's not the only reason you're with me, is it?
***************************************************************************
Michael: You wanna get married now?
Chris: Yeah, we discussed a short engagement.
Michael: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you're talking about-- now you're talking about eloping.
Chris: Don't make it sound
like a dirty word.
It's done all the time.
Michael: I just always assumed that you wanted a real wedding.
Chris: We'll be husband and wife. It doesn't get more real than that.
Michael: Yeah, I know, but just--
Chris: Unless, of course, you're getting cold feet.
Michael: Are you kidding?
I will marry you anytime,
anyplace, anywhere.
This is just so impulsive.
It's so not quite your style.
Chris: Well, maybe I'm trying out a new style.
Michael: Works for me.
Chris: besides, if there's
one thing I've learned,
it's to grab on to happiness
when it comes around
and hang on.
Because there are no guarantees
when or if it will ever
come around again.
Michael: Can I ask you something?
Chris: Sure.
Michael: This is about Paul, isn't it?
**********************************************************************
Phyllis: Are you questioning my loyalty, Victor?
Victor: I didn't say that.
Phyllis: All right,
then what are you saying?
Victor: I just want you to be aware that this is going to be a rather bumpy ride.
Phyllis: I know that. A little rock 'n' roll action never hurt me.
Victor: Need I remind you who you're married to?
Phyllis: What's your point?
Victor: Simply this-- two powerful companies are in the process of launching competing cosmetic lines. One line will succeed, the other one will fail. I do not intend to fail.
Phyllis: And?
Victor: Let me explain this further. Failure for Newman Enterprises would be costly, but not deadly. For Jabot Cosmetics, however, your husband's company, failure would lead to bankruptcy. Now do you still want to be part of this?
*************************************************************************
Nick: So that was my old man's strategy--he snatches up Satine and forces Jabot into heavy commitment.
Jack: Unless, of course, we're willing to drop our plans for building our own line for women of color.
Nick: Something tells me you're not gonna do that.
Jack: You got that right.
Nick: He still has an ax over your head.
Jack: What, are you talking about the balloon payment on some of our debt?
Nick: It's gotta put a huge strain on your cash flow.
Jack: It could make things kinda tough, yeah.
Nick: Can you handle it?
Jack: Your father would
like us to believe that
we're doomed.
Nick: Yeah, well, that's his style. He kicks you when you're down.
Jack: Nicholas, I didn't bring any of this up to open that whole can of worms.
Nick: When we talk about my father, it's bound to happen.
Jack: I wanted you to know you have very good instincts.
Nick: I knew I smelled a rat when this acquisition went down. So what are you gonna do? How you gonna deal with this?
************************************************************************
Sharon: You obviously hate me.
Victoria: I hate what you've done. You almost destroyed this family. I say "almost" because you didn't succeed. Does that disappoint you?
Sharon: Oh, right.
That's what I set out to do, Victoria, to hurt the people
I love.
Victoria: At least you admit it.
Sharon: Why are you being so cruel?
Victoria: Are you kidding me?
How can you ask me that
after every--forget it. No.
I'm not wasting my time
with you.
You're not worth it.
You mean nothing to me, Sharon.
Less than nothing.
Sharon: I see.
Victoria: No, if you really did, you'd walk out that door, and you would never come back.
Sharon: Obviously, nothing's changed around here.
Victoria: You left.
You abandoned your children.
Did you really think there
wouldn't be repercussions?
Sharon: The kids, where are they? Are they at school?
Victoria: Noah is.
Sharon: Good. I'm gonna go get him.
Victoria: Cassie's not.
She almost died.
Do you even care about that?
Sharon: Cassie almost died?
Victoria: Well, you're listening. That's a switch.
Sharon: You are really
unbelievable. You know that?
You're just pulling out
all the stops,
trying to manipulate me.
Victoria: Is that what you think? Is that really what you think, that this is some game?
Sharon: Did something happen? Damn it, Victoria, you answer me. Is Cassie all right?
Victoria: No, she's not. Far from it, because of you and your selfishness. That child has scars that may never heal.
************************************************************************
Lynne: God, you know, maybe you're right. Maybe we should give up this fight.Marissa: I know this is hard for you to accept.
Lynne: Somewhere down
the line, Paul is gonna wake up
and see the light.
Izzy cannot keep up this devoted
wife and mother routine forever.
Marissa: You're so right. I mean, she's gonna trip up and reveal herself.
Lynne: It's just a matter of time.
Marissa: Besides, it's not like Paul's missing some golden opportunity.
Lynne: With Chris, you mean?
Marissa: Yeah. I mean,
I think that boat sailed.
Lynne: I still can't believe those two are getting married.
Marissa: Two lawyers vowing to love, honor and whatever.
Lynne: Talk about a match made in hell, huh?
Lynne: Talk about a match made in Hell, huh?
************************************************************************
Chris: I don't understand. Why would this be about Paul?Michael: Because he's leaving for California with Isabella.
Chris: So what?
Michael: And, Christine,
I know you're trying to move on
with your life,
but Paul leaving Genoa City--
that's pretty final.
I mean, that was something that
meant everything to you
at one time.
I think it rocked you
and left you needing something
solid to hang on to.
Chris: Well, you're wrong.
Michael: Am I? Are you sure this idea of eloping isn't in reaction to what Paul's doing?
Chris: If you're not up
for this, just say so.
But don't try to dissect
my motives or look for
some hidden messages.
As for dinner, I don't care
what we order.
Order whatever you want.
I've got work to do.
Okay, okay, maybe...
maybe you're partly right.
Michael: Thank you.
Chris: For what?
Michael: I'm sure that wasn't easy for you to admit.
Chris: Are you upset?
Michael: I've always known that you are a woman who feels things deeply. That is one of the things I love the best about you.
Chris: You mean that?
Michael: Yes.
Look, sweetheart,
you can't turn your emotions
on and off like a spigot.
You and Paul
have a long history.
It is gonna take you some time
to get over the man completely.
Well, at least enough not
to have his actions
mean so much to you.
Chris: So does that mean Illinois is still off?
Michael: You want it to be?
Chris: No.
And even if this is a reaction
to Paul's move,
maybe it's a good thing.
It's given us a shove
in the right direction.
Unless, of course,
you want to wait.
Michael: Fat chance.
Chris: I'm gonna be a good wife to you. Don't ever doubt that.
Michael: I don't. I don't, and if there is such a thing as O.D.ing on happiness, I am there.
Chris: All right, so let's
drive up to Galena. I hear
there's some cozy lodges.
Michael: Galena?
Chris: Yeah, we'll be there in a few hours.
Michael: I, um, didn't you have some work to finish?
Chris: The heck with work.
Michael: Okay, all right, the heck with work. You go home, you pack, and I will make the arrangements. And, you know, pack something beautiful-- you know what? Never mind. You pack whatever you want. 'cause you look beautiful all the time. All right, scoot. Scoot!
Chris: Just one more thing. Thank you for being so understanding. As unsettling as it can be to have someone read you so well... it just proves something to me.
Michael: What's that?
Chris: The fact that I was able to open up to you about something so intensely personal-- it's just a sign of how much I've grown to trust you, and that is a big deal to me, Michael. It's a very big deal. I'll see ya.
**************************************************************************
Paul: Hey, come here. Where you going? Are you asking if I love you? Even now... you still question that?
Isabella: No, Paul,
I know you love me.
And even if there's a degree
of truth to what I asked you,
it doesn't matter.
What's important is that
we've come so far.
I'm happier than I ever thought
possible.
We truly are gonna start
to build a life together.
In light of it all,
how can I not believe things
are gonna work out for us?
Isabella: So you get to the office, and I'm gonna finish up here.
Paul: I guess I'd better, huh?
Isabella: Do you want to take Ricky and drop him off at your mom's for a visit?
Paul: Really, you don't mind?
Isabella: Our moving's gonna be very hard for Mary. I'm sure she'd like all the time with her grandson she can get before we leave.
Paul: Great. She'll like that. Can you watch him a sec while I get his stuff together?
Isabella: Yes.
Paul: All right,
I'll be right back.
(Telephone rings)
Isabella: Hello?
Michael: It's me. Are you alone?
Isabella: Paul's leaving, and I'm really busy right now, so... great. What now?
*********************************************************************
Phyllis: Victor, I have a strong commitment to my job here.
Victor: I understand.
Phyllis: Well, the way you're talking, it seems like you doubt that.
Victor: However I feel about your husband, I know that you care a great deal about your marriage.
Phyllis: That's true.
Victor: I want you
to fully understand
that I intend to bury the man.
Phyllis: I understand that. We keep our business and personal lives separate.
Victor: You say that now.
Phyllis: This has never been an issue before. Why is it now?
Victor: Because things are different.
Phyllis: How are they
different?
Victor: Let me say it again so that we understand each other perfectly. Jabot is financially overextended. If this attempt at launching a new cosmetic line fails for them, your husband's company will go into bankruptcy. I have suggested to him that he pull the line before he gets in too deep. He refuses because he's following the dictates of his ego, not sound business judgment. Now if Jabot goes bankrupt, everything that John Abbott has worked for will be lost. I would regret that because I respect John Abbott.
***********************************************************************
Nick: So you still haven't said. You got some kind of plan to deal with this?
Jack: Well, I don't think your father has us in the headlock he thinks he does.
Nick: Still haven't answered my question.
Jack: I'm not gonna fold.
I am not going to be intimidated
by Victor Newman.
Nick: He'll fight dirty if he's determined to bring you down.
Jack: Yeah? Two can play that game.
Nick: Jack, I don't think
you can play it as well.
Jack: We don't have to. We have the better company. We've been in the cosmetics business for years. Compared to us, Newman's a neophyte. Yes, your father can make our lives difficult. He can't crush us.
Nick: So you're gonna hold firm and fight.
Jack: I can be pretty ruthless, too, Nicholas. We'll see which line is standing at the end of the day.
**********************************************************************
Isabella: I thought we said our good-byes already.
Michael: We did.
Isabella: And they were nice ones. So enough's enough. If that's why you're here...
Michael: It isn't. Christine and I are eloping tonight.
Isabella: Oh, my God! Michael, that's great! Congratulations. I'm so happy for you.
Michael: For yourself also, I'm sure.
Isabella: Well, the point is, both of our dreams are coming true. Then you should be high as a kite, and you're not. What's wrong?
************************************************************************
Phyllis: Okay, I get it. I get it. You're... all this so-called concern--
you're trying to pressure me into getting Jack to drop his women of color line.
Victor: You obviously
did not hear me,
because at no time did I ask you
to pressure your husband.
But I do not want you on board
if you have divided loyalties.
You'll be living in
a pressure cooker.
You'll be directly involved
in destroying a family
that you care deeply about.
Now if you want to bail out now,
I would not hold that
against you. But once you're on board,
there's no return...
without serious sanctions.
I want your answer today.
Phyllis: I'll give you an answer right now. I'm staying. When I signed on with Newman Enterprises, I knew of the possible conflicts. That hasn't changed, nor has my commitment to this company. I'm staying here, Victor. Jack will learn to cope. He has to.
Victor: All right. It's a deal.
**********************************************************************
Jack: So back to Cassie-- is there anything I can do?Nick: Like what?
Jack: I don't know. I just feel so bad.
Nick: Yeah, me too. A kid shouldn't have to go through this. It tears me up thinking what it must be like for a child to have to see their mom turn her back on them and walk away.
Jack: I have some idea
what it feels like.
My mom left when I was
pretty young.
Nick: Yeah, I'd forgotten about that.
Jack: Perfectly understandable that she'd be traumatized right now. Trouble is, it never really goes away, not when you lose your mom that way. You always wonder if it was your fault, if it was something maybe that you did.
Nick: Everything was
a disaster between Sharon and me.
I can kinda understand
why she'd leave me.
But one thing I will never
understand is how she could
leave her own kids.
Jack: Yeah, that's a tough one.
Nick: Hey, you know what? She's gone. She's out of our lives. So be it.
Jack: Forever?
Nick: Forever's a long time. Right now, the only thing I'm concerned about is taking care of my kids. 'Cause that's all in my hands now. Sharon's not a part of it. As messed up as she is, I have to believe it's for the best.
************************************************************************
Victoria: Your daughter? The one who you haven't called, not once? Is that the daughter you're talking about?
Sharon: Victoria--
Victoria: You know what?
I'm not talking to you anymore, Sharon.
Sharon: You can not tell me that much and then just cut me off!
Victoria: Don't you dare
make orders with me!
You left
without so much as one word.
And you think you can waltz
back in here and demand
information?
Where's your right?
What the hell are you thinking?
Sharon: Will you please stop lecturing me and tell me about Cassie?
Victoria: All right.
Do you want to know
what happened?
The day you left, Cassie was so upset.
She was devastated.
Her whole world
was falling apart.
And so she went outside
and was walking around
by herself.
And, apparently, she wasn't
paying attention to where
she was going because she walked
onto the pond.
Sharon: Oh, God.
Victoria: And it was covered with ice, but it wasn't thick enough.
Sharon: Oh, no.
Oh, my God!
Victoria: No one knows how long she was under the water. It could have been minutes. It could have been an hour. By the time Nicholas pulled her out...
Sharon: Was she breathing?
Victoria: No.
And she barely had a pulse.
She was almost frozen,
which, apparently, we should be
thankful for because that's
what saved her.
Sharon: Oh, my God.
Victoria: We got her to the hospital and they got her breathing again.
Sharon: How is she now?
Victoria: She finally
came out of the coma.
She's not 100%, Sharon.
She...
she's a mess emotionally.
That's what I was talking about.
The doctor had to give her drugs
so that she can sleep,
because she has nightmares.
And it doesn't take
a brain surgeon
to figure out why.
Sharon: Well-- where is she now? Where is she, in the hospital? I'm gonna go to her.
Victoria: No, you're not going anywhere near her. You've done enough damage.
Sharon: Don't you tell me no. I am her mother.
Victoria: I am not letting you go anywhere near her! Do you hear me? You are the reason why this happened. And if you think I'm gonna forget that, you better think again!
*******************************************************************
Michael: Why should anything be wrong? I'm about to marry the only woman in the world I've ever loved. So everything is perfect. It's just gonna be perfect, perfect--
Isabella: Michael,
what is it?
Talk to me.
Michael: You know, I know it's crazy to be bothered by anything at a time like this, but, you know, I just can't help thinking...
Isabella: Thinking what?
Michael: I love Christine
so much.
I want this marriage more than
I've wanted anything
in my entire life.
But there's this little
tiny voice in my head.
And it keeps whispering,
like the devil on my shoulder,
words like "treachery"
and "guilt" and...
Isabella: Oh, my God. Michael, you're not thinking about...
Michael: Look, Isabella, what we did, it was wrong.
Isabella: How can you say that? Your plan worked better than either of us could've hoped.
Michael: Look, you know,
but it was deceitful
and it was dishonest.
Isabella: Well, it's a little late to grow a conscience now, Michael.
Michael: Start a new marriage with this kind of ugly little secret...
Isabella: It almost sounds like you're wanting to confess. Michael, please, please tell me you're not.
Michael: Why, is that
so crazy? You threatened to do
the same with Paul more than
once because the guilt was
eating you alive.
Isabella: No, that was different. Everything has changed. Paul loves me. I'm on the verge of having everything I've ever wanted. And so are you. So you need to let it go.
Michael: Okay.
Okay, you're right.
It's too big a risk.
Look, I gotta be going.
I gotta go home.
I gotta pack.
Isabella: Michael, are you okay?
Michael: Yeah, sure. Sure.
Isabella: Look, I hope your marriage to Christine is everything you ever hoped for. All right? I mean that. Good luck.
Michael: You too.
**************************************************************************
Sharon: I want to see my daughter, Victoria. Now! Where is she?
Victoria: She's asleep. I gave her a sedative.
Sharon: What? Cassie's here? Cassie's upstairs?
Victoria: You are not going anywhere near her.
Sharon: I damn well am!
Victoria: Stop thinking about
yourself for once and start
thinking about that child!
Start thinking about
what you've done to her
and how traumatized she is!
You don't know...
you don't know how she's been
these last few weeks.
It's been a nightmare!
And if you show up
out of nowhere,
there's no telling what
might happen.
And I'm not gonna let you do it!
Sharon: She's that fragile? Please, talk about self-serving...
Victoria: You haven't
been here. You don't know!
Cassie couldn't see.
She couldn't hear.
She couldn't respond.
It's a miracle that she
came back to us,
and, at the very least,
we are talking to her doctor
before you go anywhere near her.
Sharon: When, Victoria?
Victoria: I don't know. I can't answer that. But you are gonna do what's best for that child. You owe her that much.
Sharon: But you're gonna contact her doctor soon?
Victoria: We'll talk. Good-bye, Sharon.
