Jack: It sure is, and you would be perfect for the job. We'd be overhauling our entire online division. By the time--

Phyllis: Yeah, you know, I-- e the pitch.

Jack: Okay, I'm sorry. I-I don't mean to pressure you. It's just-- I o say yes. I want you to come back to jabot.

Phyllis: It'd smooth things overour family, wouldn't it?

Jack: What are you talking about, breakfast this morning?

Phyllis: Yeah, it was awkward. I'm sorry about that. I know how uncomfortable you were.

Phyllis: Yeah, and everybody else was uncomfortable, too, right? Well, yeah, of course...

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Jack: But, I mean, especially you. You know, you were the one left out. We're all sitting around talking about business, and--

Phyllis: Right, but you all, you all shut up the minute I walked into the room. It just doesn't seem right, you know? It doesn't seem like family, a close family, and that's when I suddenly came up with the idea that you should come back to jabot. It'd be perfect for everyone.

Phyllis: Wow, it's-- you know what, sweetie? It's amaziwere able to come up with that so quickly, just right there on the spot.

Jack: What can I say? I was inspired.

Phyllis: You were inspired by my need, or by your own?

Nick: So what do you think, buddy? It's pretty good having your big sister home, isn't it?

Noah: Mm-hmm.

Nurse: Let me help if you're taking cassie up to her bedroom.

Victor: Don't you think it might be a good idea if she stayed down here?

Nikki: Yeah, I think that she should be more in the middle of the family activities, not so isolated.

Victor: Right.

Nurse: Fine, but too much activity could be stressful for her.

Nick: All right, we'll keep an eye on her.

Nurse: She shouldn't be alone. If all the family is out, call me.

Nick: Someone will always be at her side. We have a schedule.

Victor: Make sure you make me part of that schedule, all right?

Nick: You're a busy man. We'll handle it.

Victor: I'm never too busy for your daughter, son.

Victoria: Nicholas, if dad wants to help--

Nick: Look, we'll handle it. Miguel's making a room for you up at the main house.

Nurse: Thank you, but for tonight I think it would be best if I stayed here, in cassie's bedroom. I want to be close at hand.

Victoria: I'll show you up.

Nick: So cassie's home now. You can leave.

Nikki: Nicholas, your father's here. He wants to be involved.

Victor: It's all right. No.

Nikki: You don't have a monopoly on loving cassie, you know.

Billy: You actually met her?

Jill: Yes. We sat and we talked, and she told me a little bit about her life. It was great.

Billy: This is so weird. My grandmother, someone I never knew is my grandmother.

Jill: Charlotte, charlotte ramsey.

Billy: Charlotte, huh?

Jill: Billy, I would have told you if I'd--

Billy: Mom, mom, it's okay. You had no idea you were adopted.

Jill: You know, katherine thought that I was a monster for wanting to meet my birth mother. She thought it was like spitting in liz foster's eye.

Billy: Well, how did grandma foster feel about it?

Jill: She was fine with it. She totally understood. No, the only problem that exists is in katherine's nasty, uncharitable excuse for a mind.

Kay: So you see how she talks about me, billy? (Laughs) oh, is that any way to treat a harmless old woman?

Billy: Ah, you're not old.

Kay: (Laughs) and I'm not harmless, either. How are you, sweetheart?

Billy: I'm fine, katherine.

Kay: Good.

Billy: So you don't think mom should have gone to see her birth mother?

Kayohoh, I suppose it's all right. Why not?

Jill: I may faint.

Kay: Oh, please, dear, spare us the joy, would you? No, I've given it some thought, and if elizabeth, uh, well, she seems to think it's all right, so...

Jill: Think it's all right? It's a fact. I was adopted, and I have a right to see my real mother.

Kay: Oh, stop it. Stop it. My god, have-- you know, it is pointless to argue this matter another moment. All right, jill, tell me. When you met this woman, did you see some blinding flash of light, or did you gain some incredibly new perspective of yourself, or did you finally realize you are who you are, and it just ain't gonna get any better?

Dru: Found you.

Olivia: Where'd you come from?

Dru: Well, hello to you, too. I called rose, and she told me that I could catch you over here having an early lunch.

Olivia: So you're looking for me?

Dru: Yeah.

Olivia: Why?

Dru: Did you hear about my new job, jabot's spokeswoman for a new cosmetics line? (Laughs)

Olivia: Actually, I did. Lily told me. Congratulations. That's quite the coup.

Dru: Thank you.

Olivia: Although I'm a little surprised that ashley let them hire you.

Dru: Let them? She don't hold the power card over there. They vetoed her. She's none too happy, either.

Olivia: So there's already some tension?

Dru: And it just got worse.

Olivia: What did you do?

Dru: Why do you assume I did something? Look, I went over to see ashley, and what do I find but her playing huggy bear with victor newman? Hmm.

Olivia: Well, I hope you turned right around and didn't say anything.

Dru: I most certainly did not. How could I ignore something like that?

Ashley: Where the hell do you get off?

Dru: I'm still trying to get my legs in this corporate business. You know, if you and victor hugging and kissing is the way that jabot does business--

Ashley: Oh, we were kissing? You saw us kissing in here?

Dru: Well, I saw you hugging. Besides, that's not the point.

Ashley: Oh, it is the point because, you see, victor and I are friends, and we are entitled to have our friendship.

Brad: Ash?

Ashley: Hi. What are you doing here?

Brad: I told you I'd take you to your appointment.

Ashley: My appointment?

Brad: Your obstetrician.

Ashley: Of course. Sorry. Let me just wrap some of this up.

Brad: You looked like you had a lot on your mind when I just walked in.

Ashley: Did I?

Brad: Were you thinking about our last conversation? Listen, honey, I'm sorry about that. It was stupid of me. Of course you're capable of competing with victor. I know I certainly wouldn't want to go up against you.

Ashley: Honey, I know you were just looking out for me. I'd forgot all about it. You're very sweet to apologize.

Brad: So that isn't what you were thinking about just now?

Ashley: No.

Kay: Well, don't let me stand in your way.

Kay: Billy, be silent as a statue.

Jill: Yeah, don't I wish.

Billy: So tell me about her, mom. What was she le?E?

Jill: Well, you'll meet her yourself, you know. She's quite a character. She's--she's been around the block, I think you'd say.

Billy: Not a stay-at-home, settled-down type of person.

Jill: No, no, no, not really.

Billy: Well, that's cool. I'll bet she's got some great stories to tell.

Jill: Yes, I suspect she has.

Billy: So did she seem glad to see you? To know about you?

Jill: Yes, yes. I don't think that she ever suspected that we'd contact each other, but, yes, I'd say she was very glad.

Billy: Well, she must have been blown away, shocked. It'll take time.

Jill: Yeah.

Billy: You are gonna see her again?

Jill: Oh, yeah, definitely, sure.

Kay: Did you ever get into the matter of why she gave you up for adoption?

Jill: Katherine, for heaven's sake, it was our first encounter. I didn't want to give her the third degree.

Billy: Has she ever been married before?

Jill: She didn't say.

Kay: You didn't ask?

Jill: No, katherine,I didn't ask.

Billy: Where does she live, here in genoa city?

Jill: You know, she must, because we set up this date on the spur of the moment, so...

Kay: You didn't drive her home?

Jill: No, katherine, I didn't drive her home.

Kay: Why not?

Jill: For god's sake, what, am I on trial here? She had something she had to do.

Kay: She makes plans with a long-lost daughter, and what, she had to go to a poker game she couldn't miss?

Jill: She had some people she had to see.

Billy: Mom?

Kay: She puts in an appearance, you know, and then she just scuttles off to more pressing busines billy, I swear to god, I do not get it--

Jill: Katherine, she needed to leave.

Billy: Are you sure you guys got along?

Jill: We got along really nicely. She just had a little bit too much to drink, that's all. It was time.

Kay: It was time to go see friends at a bar.

Billy: Katherine, just go easy, huh?

Kay: I am furious, billy.

Jill: No, you're not. You're gloating. You are so desperate for this to be a total failure for me, a fiasco, a black eye... you want to know what happened? I'll tell you what happened. The woman got completely smashed, all right? She was blotto when she left. And I don't blame her. Can you imagine how much pressure she was under? If I had been drinking, I don't think I would have been able to stop either. And you--you certainly wouldn't have, you old boozehound!

Kay: Jill, I'm sick and tir-- no, billy, I'm sick and tired of taking this nonsense from her!

Nick: You know how I feel.

Nikki: Cassie is very close to your father. She'll want s spend time with him.

Nick: I never said you couldn't see her.

Victor: You know that I'd like to be involved, all right? I think she should be surrounded by everyone who loves her. She knows that we would do anything to take care of her.

Nick: Don't worry, I'll make sure she knows that.

Victor: You're just determined to shut me out, aren't you?

Nick: You can't imagine why?

Nikki: Can't you just put your bitterness aside for now?

Nick: No, mother, I can'T. Sorry.

Victor: It's not that you can't, son, it's that you won'T.

Nick: Whatever.

Nikki: Think about what cassie would want.

Nick: Mom, I really wish you'd stay out of this.

Nikki: How can I stay out of it? I'm your mother. I love you.

Nikki: I hate this tension between you and your father.

Nick: Well, it can't be helped. I'd think you'd understand. What's going on over here?

Noah: Dad, do you think cassie wants me to read a story to her?

Nick: Yeah, buddy, I think she'd like that.

Noah: I'll go get my books. I'll be right back, cassie.

Nikki: You're blaming your father for something he didn't do.

Victor: Please, let it go. You can't fight my battles for me, all right?

Nick: Now that's something that's true.

Victor: Hopefully, one day, you're gonna look back to this moment.

Nick: Why would you hope that?

Brad: Drucilla? All right, what's going on?

Ashley: She stopped in a little while ago, and it's not worth rehashing.

Brad: Well, obviously things got personal.

Ashley: I know what you're thinking.

Brad: Yeah, that you and dru are gonna have a tough time getting along.

Ashley: Brad--

Brad: Listen, obviolyly I'm well aware of all that went on between the two of you during that whole thing with abby--

Ashley: How could I ever possibly trust her after that?

Brad: I'm not suggesting you do.

Ashley: And I still can't believe jack went above my head. He went right over my head and hired her.

Brad: You can't believe it? I'm running the division, ash. Don't you think it would have been nice if he consulted me before hiring for a key position?

Ashley: Are you thinking we should fire her?

Brad: No. No, she does bring some positives, and I want to focus on those things. And I strongly advise you to do the same.

Ashley: Yeah, yeah, for the good of the campaign.

Brad: No, for your own peace of mind.

Ashley: I hear what you're saying.

Brad: But are you going to do it? Are you going to try and get along with dru?

Olivia: What exactly did you see?

Dru: Okay, I go to ashley's lab, right? I want to run some ideas by her because I have this big jabot board presentation to make, you know. I just wanted do this can't-we-all-get-along thing with her, you know--

Olivia: You've got a board presentation?

Dru: Yeah.

Olivia: Well, you got a lot riding on this.

Dru: My whole career. Everything I've ever learned in the fashion industry culminated one opportunity, liv.

Olivia: Okay, okay. You walked in and...

Dru: Right, I walked in. She's big as a house, by brad, all pregnant and whatnot, in the arms of victor newman.

Olivia: And you decided to make an issue about this.

Dru: How could I not?

Olivia: By assuming that it was a friendly hug between some friendly people.

Dru: Friendly, my eye. It was on company property. She was with the enemy.

Olivia: What?

Phyllis: Why did you offer me the job at jabot?

Jack: What kind of question is that?

Phyllis: Is it because what i need or what you need?

Jack: Is there a difference?

Phyllis: I don't know, you tell me.

Jack: I'm not sure where you're going with this, but to me it's one and the same. If you're not happy, I'm not happy.

Phyllis: So this whole business-to-business deal...

Jack: Linking jabot's home page to our client's web sites?

Phyllis: Right, it just occurred to you? You worked out all the details and the plans right away?

Jack: I didn't have all the details worked out, no.

Phyllis: Yeah, well it sure seemed like that.

Jack: Well, as I said, I've--

Phyllis: You were inspired, right.

Jack: It isn't like I never thought of the general concept before. I mean, other companies have done this. You know how it is.

Phyllis: No, jack. How is it?

Jack: Well, you know, you have pieces of an idea floating around in your mind, and they all come together at the right time.

Phyllis: The right time.

Jack: Yeah.

Phyllis: Or when the groundwork has been perfectly laid.

Jack: I'm not sure what you're saying.

Phyllis: I'm so angry with you I can't even speak. What kind of idiot do you take me for?

Noah: I'm going to read some stories to cassie.

Victoria: She'll love that.

Nick: All right, here, why don'yoyou sit right there?

Victoria: Move a little closer. So where are mom and dad?

Nick: They left.

Victoria: Well, it's no wonder. You don't cut dad any slack.

Nick: Don't start in on me, too, all right?

Victoria: They look so sweet.

Nick: Yeah. Noah doesn't get how tragic this is. He just loves his big sister.

Victoria: Kind of taking the place of sharon. It's sad when a 5-year-old has got to fill in for his mother.

Nick: Vic, lay off sharon, all right? I'm not in the mood for that right now.

Nikki: Want a cup of tea?

Victor: No, thank you.

Nikki: Well, I had much higher expectations for cassie's homecoming.

Victor: Yeah. I think we were both hoping for a miraculous change.

Nikki: Nicholas is just locked in to this negative attitude.

Victor: He's been hurt to the core of his being.

Nikki: I know that, but he's blaming you and it's not your fault.

Victor: In his mind everything that's gone wrong in his life has been my fault.

Nikki: Well, it's just not right.

Victor: He's even trying to revise history now.

Nikki: What do you mean?

Victor: Accusing me of never having appreciated any of his opinions or valued his contribution.

Nikki: That is ridiculous. You have worked so hard teaching him this business.

Victor: He's upset about the cosmetics venture.

Nikki: Why?

Victor: He thinks it's a mistake.

Nik: : Well, I have to say I don't disagree with him on that.

Victor: That's because you work for jabot.

Nikki: No, it has nothing to do with that. Look, I don't want to argue with you about this.

Victor: Business is the furthest from my mind right now.

Nikki: Why is nicholas so opposed to it?

Victor: Well, he's upset because he wasn't consulted.

Nikki: I don't understand how he can fault you at a time like this. You have been extremely patient, and I know how hard you're trying to help him.

Victor: He doesn't see it that way.

Nikki: You would think after learning the truth about sharon he would.

Victor: I guess it's hard for him to accept the fact that I went out on a limb, taking the responsibility for that unfortunate kiss. And I did that in the vain hope of preserving their marriage. And now I don't understand at all what the hell sharon is up to, turning her back on her family. Where the hell is she? What is this all about?

Kay: Jill, jill, jill, jill, my god. I am thelast one to throw stones where drinking is concerned. I feel a very genuine sympathy for this woman, this birth mother of yours, nothing else.

Jill: You feel sympathy for her simply because she's my mother. Come on, katherine, you have said as much.

Kay: Why are you trying to start? Why is she trying to start a fight?

Jill: Me? I merely told you about my mother, who had a little bit too much to drink, and you started.

Kay: I started? I started absolutely nothing, for heaven's sakes. You're obviously trying to rationalize the woman'S... problem.

Jill: Well, maybe I am. So what?

Billy: Ladies, ladies, ladies, please. Look, katherine, just lighten up. And, mom, you too. Look, I think it's great that you searched out this woman and jumped g ght in and got to know her. That took guts.

Jill: Oh, billy, I had no choice. She's my flesh and blood. She's your flesh and blood.

Billy: Still, you didn't know what you'd find. And now I have a suggestion. How about you and i take her to dinner together?

Jill: Darling, I would love that. Oh, she will adore meeting you. She'll be so proud of you.

Victoria: Well, we need to talk about her.

Nick: Not in front of the kids.

Victoria: Um, noah, your dad and I are gonna be right outside, all right? So, um, we're talking about some grown-up stuff.

Noah: Sure, aunt vicki, I'll be right back.

Victoria: Okay.

Nick: I really don't know what we have to talk about.

Victoria: I think it's about time you eased up on dad.

Nick: Do you not see how he has totally messed up my life?

Victoria: Nicholas, of course I know what it's like to deal with that man, yeah.

Victoria: You're talking about that kiss. We both know that was not dad's fault.

Nick: You didn't see what I saw. He was all over her. Now maybe she came on to him. He wasn't fighting her off. This is his own daughter-in-law. The man has no self-control.

Victoria: I think it's sharon who needs a lesson in self-control.

Nick: Okay, so my wife can't be trusted either. What's your point?

Victoria: At least dad has been able to own up to his mistakes.

Nick: You know, I don't get you. After what happened with diego, I didn't think you'd talk to him again, and now you're defending him.

Victoria: I'll tell you why-- he's here. He's here, and he wants to help. Where's sharon? Where is she? I mean, which one of them is showing how much they really care?

Nick: Well, which one has the most to feel guilty about?

Victoria: Dad has tried to save your marriage.

Nick: How, by lying to me?

Victoria: Oh, what, and sharon hasn't lied? That woman has lied to you over and over again. She's lied to her own mother when she wrote that letter saying how she can't come home because of what dad did to her. Which, if you really think about it, nicholas, doesn't make much sense. I mean, if she's really that innocent, why doesn't she come home and confront him?

Nick: Look, I'm not even thinking about any of this right now. My little girl needs her mother. That's the reason I want sharon home--for cassie's sake.

Victoria: Well, as messed up as sharon is, I don't know that she would help.

Nick: No, she was an amazing moerer to those kids before dad started messing with her. Nothing meant more to her than them.

Victoria: Then where is she? Why hasn't she picked up the phone and called to see how her children are doing?

Nikki: Look, I know you haven't wanted to believe this, but sharon is a very self-centered person. She's only thinking about herself. It doesn't give me pleasure to say this. I wish I had been wrong about her.

Victor: If she'd just contact anyone, I meanheher mother... anyone...

Nikki: Victor, if she were a concerned mother, she would.

Victor: Meanwhile, in my son's view, I'm the ultimate destroyer.

Nikki: It's just heartbreaking.

Victor: Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be best if I left for a while.

Nikki: What? What are you talking about? Where would you go?

Victor: I don't know. Anywhere.

Nikki: What would that accomplish?

Victor: Remove my son's irritation.

Nikki: No, victor, it would be wrong of you to go.

Victor: Why?

Nikki: Because none of this is your fault. You didn't create these problems.

Victor: Yeah, but if I stay, I just keep on rubbing salt in his wounds.

Nikki: No, no. You shouldn't take on any more responsibility.

Victor: What the hell can I do to help him?

Nikki: Why don't you try the direct approach?

Victor: If he'll listen.

Nikki: You won't know until you try.

Victor: This is all very upsetting to me, but your support means the world to me.

Nikki: You're my husband. Whatever differences we have had, we both want what's best for our son.

Olivia: Since when is victor newman the enemy?

Dru: Lily didn't tell you the whole story. Newman enterprises is launching a new cosmetics line to compete with jabot cosmetics. You see, we're simultaneously going after the same market.

Dru: He was in our lab. He's got those shifty eyes. You know, he's looking at our formulas and strategies.

Olivia: So what are you saying, that he's a spy? Did you see him writing notes?

Dru: No, I'm saying it's conflict of interest to have a C.E.O. Of your most competitive business in your lab. It doesn't work.

Olivia: I'm sure you told ashley that.

Dru: I most certainly did. E e thinks I'm the security risk. Meanwhile, she's squeezin' and teasin' victor newman, saying that I'm the problem. She's the problem. I told her to look in the mirror herself.

Olivia: Okay, let me get this straight. You have this big presentation, so you decide to pick a fight with one of your bosses. What are you, self-destructive?

Dru: I think it's time I go. I need to put some polish on my speech, so I'll just get out of here.

Olivia: I don't even know why I waste my breath.

Dru: What?

Olivia: I just hope you heard what I said.

Jack: Look, I don't know what I've done to upset you--

Phyllis: Don't give me that! I came here hoping my suspicions were wrong! Hoping that everything that happened in the last 24 hours I misinterpreted. But you have guilt written all over your face.

Jack: Okay, look, calm down.

Phyllis: Don't tell me to calm down. You admitted to me it was an act, wasn't it? It was an act. That photo album last night, the lovemaking, breakfast with your family this morning.

Jack: Choosing between the woman I love and my family's company!

Phyllis: I can't talk about this anymore. We have gone over this again and again. We keep our personal and business lives separate, jack.

Jack: It's different this time.

Phyllis: How? Why? Why, because the companies are going head to head in a major way?

Jack: Yes, yes! Because victor has just raised the stakes. I don't know how I can make this any clearer to you. We can't afford to lose this battle! Newman enterprises can. Satine goes down, they pick themselves up, they move on. They're bigger, they're diverse.

Phyllis: Since when have you been afraid of a challenge, jack?

Jack: A web site that is going to be critical to whether or not newman's company succeeds in this new venture.

Phyllis: In the first couple months, but then after that, I won't have anything to do with it!

Jack: They can bring us down in two months! I'm sorry about this morning.

Kay: In other words, billy, your mother could afford to be kind and generous.
