Jack: Hey.

Phyllis: Hey.

Jack: You smell good.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Jack: When did you sneak out of bed? 3E6FC316.JPG

Phyllis: I've been up for a while.

Jack: That's kind of strange, considering we didn't get much sleeping done last night.

Phyllis: We can't blame it on Kyle this time.

Jack: Amazing, huh? Slept all the way through the night.

Phyllis: You made the most of that.

Jack: Yeah, I think we both did. So feel any better? I mean, did it help?

Phyllis: Uh, did making love to my husband over and over and over a that's an odd question.

Jack: Well, not really. When you came home from Newman last night, you seemed, I don't know, kind of sad, like you had a lot on your mind. I assumed it had something to do with our little argument in my office. 3E6FC33D.JPG

Phyllis: Oh, yeah. When you didn't want to watch Kyle.

Jack: No, when I said I couldn't watch Kyle-- that and the fact I couldn't share the project we're working on at Jabot with you.

Phyllis: Oh, why would you want to share it with me? I can't be trusted with the tiniest detail. Jack: Wait a minute. Where is that coming from? Hey, I thought we made a deal a long time ago--no shop talk, nothing that could get either of us in any trouble. You have been very scrupulous about keeping all the goings-on at Newman enterprises from me.

Phyllis: Why don't you tell Victoria that? I'm sure she'll appreciate it, now that she's fired me.

Jack: What? (Knock on door) 3E6FC36B.JPG

Victor: Come in.

Victoria: Hi. Thought you might be able to use this.

Victor: That's very nice of you. Thank you.

Victoria: How late were you and mother at the hospital last night?

Victor: You know, to be honest with you, I don't know what time it was.

Victoria: Anything new with Cassie?

Victor: Unfortunately not. Sweetheart, do you have a minute?

Victoria: Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Victor: Mind sitting down?

Victoria: All right.

Victor: Tell me more about this company that you mentioned last night, that you and Neil think we should take over. 3E6FC393.JPG

Victoria: Satine cosmetics. Gave you the broad strokes of it last night, but we were both pretty distracted.

Victor: Mm-hmm. But why do you feel the need to do that right now? I mean...

Victoria: It's a great company.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: I mean, it's in play. Offers are being made. If we don't get it under our umbrella, then Jabot will.

Victor: Why would that matter to you?

Victoria: It's obvious.

Victor: Mmm.

Victoria: Whoever acquires this company is gonna be at a huge advantage. I mean, it already has a developed product line. It has its distribution in place. 3E6FC3B8.JPG

Victor: Well, darling, what I'm asking you is, why would you jump into acquiring another whole division now? I mean, at this time in your life? If you don't mind my asking you, are you trying to hide from something or...

Dru: Hey.

Neil: Mmm. Morning, sleepyhead.

Dru: Mm-hmm. Can't believe I slept this late.

Neil: Mmm. You want some coffee?

Dru: Yeah. So did Lily get off to school?

Neil: I dropped her off at the coffeehouse. She wanted to ride to school with her friends.

Dru: You know, it wouldn't kill her to take the bus sometimes. 3E6FC3EF.JPG

Neil: Yeah, but you know something? After all those years that I missed hanging out with Lily, I kind of enjoy being her chauffeur.

Dru: This fresh-squeezed? It's good.

Neil: Hey, baby, you know something? It's all in the wrist.

Dru: Mm-hmm. I'm sure you baked all morning as well.

Neil: Actually, I made a bakery run before Lily got up.

Dru: Well, my butt is gonna turn into a Texas ranch if you keep spoiling us like this.

Neil: Since when is there a law against spoiling my two best girls who are queens?

Dru: Mmm.

Neil: By the way, you look absolutely beautiful this morning. 3E6FC40B.JPG

Dru: You say that every morning.

Neil: And I mean it every morning. Hey, have you had a chance to think about what we talked about yesterday?

Frederick: I guess the next step's a private investigator.

Anita: What good would that do?

Frederick: Come on, Anita, how can you even ask that? Our daughter's out there somewhere alone and pregnant. We need to try and find her and tell her it's all right.

Anita: It's not all right.

Frederick: The situation, no. I certainly agree with you, but we need to try and find Brittany and persuade her to come home so that she can deal with this.

Anita: I don't even know what she could be living on, Frederick. We cut her off without a cent. 3E6FC44F.JPG

Frederick: Maybe she'll call. She has to.

Anita: Why would she? She'd have to talk to us.

Frederick: You almost sound like you resent her.

Anita: I am upset. I don't understand why she wouldn't come to us. She wouldn't feel like she'd have to run off like some fugitive. I mean, it's not the end of the world, right? It's not like Brittany herself was exactly planned.

Frederick: What a wonderful moment to bring that up.

Anita: Well, it's true, isn't it? Maybe if we had been a little more open with her...

Frederick: You know, there are places she could go-- there are shelters. She would know about those, right? I mean, she worked at the one here in town long enough. Our girl could take care of herself, couldn't she? 3E6FC478.JPG

Anita: If that is supposed to be comforting, Frederick, it's not.

Larry: Whoa. Wh. . Whoa. Why so sneaky?

Jill: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.

Larry: Well, you know what? You did.

Jill: I'm sorry.

Larry: Tell you what, why don't we take this from the top and see if we can't get it right this time?

Jill: No, I can't do that.

Larry: Why not?

Jill: 'Cause I have a meeting.

Larry: Well, show up a little bit late. It'll make you look more powerful.

Jill: I don't need to impress anyone, okay? Besides which, if you and I get started, I'm gonna be a whole bunch late. 3E6FC4B6.JPG

Larry: Okay. Go on.

Jill: Oh, come on, you know I'd rather stay here.

Larry: Yeah, right.

Jill: I'll make it up to you.

Larry: Hey, this, um, this whole early bird stuff, it's because you're looking for your real mom and dad, right?

Jill: Oh, god.

Larry: Babe, you didn't sleep for beans last night. You were rockin' and rollin' back and forth. Is this that heavy on your mind?

Jill: I am so close. I'm this close, and yet I'm a million miles away, and it is driving me crazy. Good afternoon. Tonight at six you're going to hear from some of the fire heroes involved in fighting yesterday's huge apartment fire.+++Police in the states have found 14 year old Elizabeth smart. The girl was kidnapped last June - and found today in salt lake city - safe and sound.+++And - we'll introduce you to a special pup named "girl" - who's making a big difference in the lives of Edmonton war vets.+++That's tonight on global news at six. 3E6FC5A8.JPG

Lily: I'm glad I ran into you, Wes. I've missed you.

Wes: Well, I miss you, too.

Lily: You haven't been around much.

Wes: Yeah.

Lily: Has mom told you about her job offer?

Wes: No. When did this happen?

Lily: I don't know. Dad wants her to model for brash & sassy over at Newman enterprises.

Wes: You don't sound too enthused.

Lily: I'm not. I mean, it's bizarre. Mom's too old to be a model. That part of her life is behind her.

Wes: I hope you didn't tell her that.

Lily: Well, of course I did. I mean, someone had to clue her in so she doesn't make a fool of herself. 3E6FC5D2.JPG

Dru: You're talking about me working for Newman enterprises, right?

Neil: Yes, for our African American cosmetics line. Dru, you're gonna be a natural in our ad campaign.

Dru: Yeah, so you say. You sure you're not trying to flatter me?

Neil: What do you mean?

Dru: Well, as our daughter pointed out to me, I'm no longer in my teens, nor my 20s.

Neil: Neither are a lot of older women who still have careers. Take, for example, Beverly Johnson or the--Iman. They both have it going on.

Dru: Mm-hmm, true, but aren't there younger models out there that'll suit your campaign? You know...

Neil: Drucilla, I already told you, you have a beautiful face, a perfect complexion. You're gonna look stunning in our ads. You will be working with other ladies, though. 3E6FC5FA.JPG

Dru: But I'll be the main one, right?

Neil: Not necessarily.

Dru: "Not necessarily," what does that mean?

Neil: Don't worry, there's gonna be a lot of work to go around.

Dru: Stop the presses.

Neil: What?

Dru: I don't think I like what I'm hearing, Neil.

Neil: Drucilla, what are you talking about? We haven't even worked out any of the details yet--

Dru: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know all that, but I'm getting the distinct impression that you're trying to throw old Dru a bone. I don't need your charity, because I've got game and I've got options, so...

Victoria: You know, I'm a little confused as to where this is coming from. I thought you were on board. 3E6FC620.JPG

Victor: Darling, I don't know what gave you that impression.

Victoria: Well, when I talked to you about it last night, you seemed to agree with Neil and me that this was a good investment.

Victor: But a good investment in what?

Victoria: In the African American market. It's hot. It's growing by leaps and bounds.

Victor: What about the investment you have in yourself? And the time and energy you could spend on that.

Victoria: You been reading those self-help books again?

Victor: No. The whole situation with Cassie has made me think. I've been to that hospital day and night, watching the little girl that we all love fight for her life. It forces one to think about what really matters in life. 3E6FC653.JPG

Victoria: You know, I think it's great that you're doing some soul-searching, but I'm really not up for a lecture about how to run my life.

Victor: Why do you want to bury yourself in work, though? Why?

Victoria: I'm not burying myself in work. I'm young. I'm strong. There are things I want to accomplish. You know, let's not talk about this. Let's just talk about business, all right?

Victor: Sweetheart, I say these things because I love you. Don't you understand that? Why are you acquiring this whole new division now, at a time in your life when you just lost someone you love? Your family's in a crisis unlike any other they have been in for a long, long time. I mean, why assume all this work now? Why? 3E6FC681.JPG

Victoria: You know what? You probably don't even realize you're doing it, but you're trying to control me again, and you constantly do this, and it makes me insane. So I'm just gonna leave before we really get into it, all right?

Victor: Sweetheart.

Victoria: What?

Victor: I'm not trying to control you now.

Victor: I'm your dad. I'm concerned about you.

Victoria: Look, we are, um, we're gonna go ahead with this. And I'm gonna count on you not to interfere. Two things--Jabot cannot know about this. I mean, if they get wind that we're the other bidder-- it can't happen.

Victor: What else?

Victoria: I'm letting Phyllis go. 3E6FC6B8.JPG

Victor: Why?

Victoria: Because she's married to Jack Abbott. It's a conflict of interest. Not to mention the fact that she's been drifting around here for months, and that's putting it mildly.

Victor: Wait a minute, isn't Phyllis a valuable asset?

Victoria: No, I think at this point she's a liability. Neil and I are in total agreement about this. So, um... is this meeting adjourned?

Victor: Are you calling the shots?

Victoria: Yeah, that'll be the day.

Jack: Fired? Why? What are you talking about?

Phyllis: I told you last night, it's face time. If you don't show enough of your face, they get paranoid. 3E6FC7E7.JPG

Jack: Wait, wait, wait, it's gotta be something more than that. You've been doing all your work from home. It's been terrific stuff.

Phyllis: How do you know that? Did you peek?

Jack: At the finished product--only at what everyone else can see on the web.

Phyllis: I guess Neil and Victoria think that I'm gonna spurt off some secret about the company during a moment of ecstasy with you.

Jack: How long has this been an issue?

Phyllis: I have no idea. Think that they have some major--listen to me. Maybe they're right. Listen. I'm going off right now, and I don't even know what's going on. 3E6FC804.JPG

Jack: Sounds to me like they're being terribly disingenuous here.

Phyllis: Oh, really? You think so? You think that they had some--

Jack: This is a pretty bogus reason to can someone.

Phyllis: I feel like such a loser, Jack. I feel like I'm all dressed up with no place to go.

Jack: Honey, you might... you know, maybe this is all for the best.

Phyllis: What? What does that mean?

Jack: I don't mean to be insensitive. I'm just saying it might be nice to be on the same team for a while.

Phyllis: What, are you offering me a job? At Jabot? Doing what, cleaning toilets? Emptying ashtrays? Jill's assistant. 3E6FC82B.JPG

Jack: If you want to work, believe me, we can find something for you at Jabot.

Phyllis: I don't want work at Jabot-- I don't want just any job, Jack. I want my job. I was amazing at what I did.

Jack: I know you were.

Phyllis: Yes, brash & sassy is on the map internet-wise because of me.

Jack: Hey, hey, hey, you're preaching to the choir. I know how fabulous you are. Try to remember who they stole you from to begin with.

Phyllis: Sorry. I don't--I don't want to-- you know, I'm just bummed.

Jack: I know you are. I know. I know. And I'm sorry. Listen, I still have to get ready for work. You gonna be all right? 3E6FC852.JPG

Phyllis: Sure.

Jack: I would let Kyle sleep until the nanny gets here, okay?

Phyllis: All right, somebody'll be with him?

Jack: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It'll be me or Mamie.

Phyllis: Good. Good.

Jack: You okay?

Phyllis: Uh-huh.

Jack: I love you.

Phyllis: I love you.

Larry: So, um, who exactly are you gonna go see?

Jill: Somebody who's going to help me find my birth parents.

Larry: A lawyer?

Jill: No. Well, he has legal training.

Larry: That Frederick dude?

Jill: Frederick Hodges.

Larry: So he's behind this whole thing, isn't he? He's the one that talked you into this wild goose chase.

Jill: It is not, and nobody talked me into anything, okay? It was my idea. He offered to help me. 3E6FC892.JPG

Larry: Yeah, and how's he gonna do that?

Jill: Well, I don't know. That is what I'm gonna find out.

Larry: Well, babe, you said before that you were like real close yet so far away, and I'm a little confused. What exactly does that mean?

Jill: Well, you know when my brother was here for a few days? We went over to the hospital, and, Larry, I practically had my birth record in the palm of my hand.

Larry: So what happened?

Jill: This petty bureaucratic tyrant of a supervisor walked in at exactly the wrong moment. Bloody woman, I mean, there it was. Everything I need to know, and she wouldn't let me take a peek. 3E6FC8C0.JPG

Larry: That sucks. So what do you do now?

Jill: I don't know. I jump through hoops. You know, I say "please" and "thank you." I chop down a couple trees' worth of paper.

Larry: Jill, sounds like it's gonna take some time. Are you sure that this is really what--

Jill: Yes, yes, Larry. I am sure. And who knows? Frederick is very well connected. Maybe he can speed things up.

Larry: Even so, there's no guarantees, right?

Jill: Could you a little bit more discouraging?

Larry: I think I'll put some time in, see if there's something I can do to help. You would do that? 3E6FC8EA.JPG

Larry: Babe, if you've got your mind made up about it... yeah.

Jill: Oh, honey, you better let Frederick handle it, though. You've got your job to think about.

Larry: Well, I've got some connections, too.

Jill: Yeah, but Frederick knows how to play the game. Let him handle it, okay? And I'll see you at the office.

Larry: I'd like to handle Mr. Frederick Hodges, all right. Yeah. Lots of simple ways to save energy. Smooth backside rode us

you're down below

where have you been? Let's check out the mute grab up top, though. Look at the style on off the box. 3E6FC97B.JPG

It's no secret this is our big impressed the crowd. The last, 900 -- gets all the way around. Kind of checks it a bit there,

Frederick: You see, to me it would be comforting just knowing that Brittany had a roof over her head. 'Cause as it stands now, we don't know anything.

Anita: What are you accusing me of now?

Frederick: Excuse me?

Anita: When I don't respond with glee to the fact that our daughter might be in some homeless shelter...

Frederick: Oh, for crying out loud, Anita.

Anita: Don't yell at me!

Frederick: You know what? I'm just so tired of us not being able to communicate about anything.

Anita: And you think I enjoy it? 3E6FC9A9.JPG

Frederick: Well, sometimes I wonder.

Anita: So now you're being insulting.

Frederick: You know what? This isn't getting us anywhere. What we need to be doing is focusing on Brittany. That's the only thing we should be thinking about.

Anita: Unless we're thinking about Jill. Jill Abbott.

Frederick: She's a client.

Anita: Really? So why isn't it on letterhead, typed? Why is it in your handwriting?

Frederick: Now you're gonna start nitpicking my correspondence?

Anita: It isn't personal?

Frederick: You want to read it? Be my guest.

Anita: I should call your bluff. 3E6FC9CD.JPG

Frederick: Go ahead.

Anita: Do you know how much I detest even having this conversation about...

Frederick: I've gotta get some documents signed.

Anita: By all means, Frederick, tend to business.

Wes: Ooh, boy, I don't even want to ask how your mom responded when you told her she was too old to model. I mean, that's pretty harsh, Lily.

Lily: Well, she was a little hurt, didn't like hearing it. But couldn't lie to her, could I? Someone had to tell her the truth. Maybe if you talked to her.

Wes: No, Lily, I can't do that.

Lily: Why not?

Wes: Well, for one thing, I disagree with you. And, besides that, your mom and I have been giving each other space these days. 3E6FCA13.JPG

Lily: Just because we're living with my dad, doesn't mean you should give up on her, Wes.

Wes: Look, I'm telling you how things are. Now I don't want to have a big discussion about it, okay?

Lily: You still love her, don't you?

Wes: I'll always love her. Just like I'll always love you. Wait, now shouldn't you be getting to school, though?

Lily: Oh, that's right. I'm meeting my friends outside.

Wes: Oh, all right. Well, you make sure that they drive carefully--

Lily: Drive carefully, I know. Don't worry.

Wes: And you're gonna wear your seat belt?

Lily: Yes, I know. I know. Thanks for the hot chocolate.

Wes: All right, have fun. 3E6FCA39.JPG

Lily: Yeah, right.

Neil: Now, baby, come on. Calm down. Who said anything about charity?

Dru: I guess I'm just hypersensitive, that's all.

Neil: Why? Because of what Lily said?

Dru: Because of a lot of things. And, yes, she hurt my feelings, all right?

Neil: Oh, come on, forget about her. What do teenagers know anyway?

Dru: Enough.

Neil: Dru, you're an amazing woman. Baby, you got so much to offer.

Dru: It was just that when, you know, you talked to me about getting involved in this campaign, I thought it was gonna be in a bigger capacity, you know, than just doing some print ads. 3E6FCA5F.JPG

Neil: Really?

Dru: Yeah.

Neil: Such as...

Dru: Well, you know, I could be a spokeswoman, for instance. Just off the top of my head you're gonna need, like, somebody to do the traveling, talking to the distributors, you know, public relations... how about this? How about if I coach the younger models? That's an idea.

Neil: Yeah. Dru, come on, that's a huge commitment.

Dru: What are you trying to say, I can't handle it? Come on.

Neil: I thought you wanted to spend more time with Lily.

Dru: I know that's what

you want. But I can have a relationship with my daughter and work, too. 3E6FCA7A.JPG

Neil: All right, all right. Suppose we just take things one step at a time? Get that beautiful face of yours in front of a camera again, and then see how it goes.

Dru: I have a prediction.

Neil: Really? What's that?

Dru: Yeah, you're gonna hire a younger model, and she's gonna suck. But you're not gonna fire her, and we won't get the deal.

Neil: You know something? You worry way too much. Hey, I gotta get to work, okay? I'll call you later in the day. Have a good day.

Neil: Bye. (Intercom buzzes)

Victor: Yes, Connie. Oh, um... why don't you send her in, all right? Thank you.

Phyllis: Thanks for seeing me. 3E6FCAD0.JPG

Victor: Hello, Phyllis. Come in.

Phyllis: I presume you've heard.

Victor: I understand you've been fired.

Phyllis: Uh, yes. Was it with or without your blessing?

Victor: Would you like to sit down?

Phyllis: No, thanks. I have a lot of points to make, and I'm better on my feet.

Victor: Victoria feels that her decision was warranted.

Phyllis: Well, Victoria made a lot of assumptions that honestly don't hold water.

Victor: I see.

Phyllis: Yeah. Listen, Victor, if you tell me I'm out of here, I'm out of here, okay? I didn't come to grovel or make excuses. But you're a man who responds to logic, and I think once you hear the reasons I was let go, you'll realize it's not in the best interest of your company.

Jill: Maybe I should come back another time?

Frederick: No. No, actually you're just the person I wanted to see.

Jill: I am?

Frederick: Yeah, friendly face... someone I have some hope of communicating with.

Jill: Is something the matter, Frederick? What is it, business? Your wife.

Frederick: Yeah. Let's just say I had a not-too-pleasant encounter with her.

Jill: Oh. Well, that's between you and Anita.

Frederick: No, it's not just her. There are other things going on. It's just creating a lot of stress for both of us. 3E6FCC5D.JPG

Jill: See, I feel so badly now, coming in here with my little problems.

Frederick: No, no, I don't mind. I promise. I know how anxious you are to get started, finding your birth parents. Let's do it.

Jill: Well, the truth is I already did start, and it didn't go so well.

Frederick: Oh.

Dru: Wes?

Wes: Hey.

Dru: Thanks for agreeing to meet with me.

Wes: No problem. You know, you just missed your daughter, by the way.

Dru: Did I really?

Wes: Yep, I saw her right before school. We had a nice little chat.

Dru: About what? 3E6FCC8E.JPG

Wes: Nothing special, just this and that.

Dru: Well, I hope I'm not interfering in any plans you might have today.

Wes: I'm on an extended vacation, remember? Besides, I was serious when I told you if you ever need me, I'll be there as a friend. So what's wrong?

Dru: Who said anything was wrong?

Wes: Oh, come on, Dru. How long have I known you now? I can read you like a book. And I know something's going on, so give it up.

Dru: I have a decision to make.

Wes: About Lily or Neil?

Dru: My career.

Wes: Oh, listen, Dru, I know you're feeling blue about what happened with Sid the last time you two talked-- 3E6FCCBD.JPG

Dru: No, I'm blue about a couple of things, actually, but for the record, Sid is old news.

Wes: Since when?

Dru: Since I have two job offers.

Wes: Two?

Dru: Ain't it funny how art imitates life? I mean, I have a decision to make. I have to choose one, and if I choose the wrong one, my whole life could end up being a mess.

Victor: What reasons were you given for being let go?

Phyllis: Well, Victoria questioned my level of commitment because I've been working from home, and I have a child now. And, um, she hinted rather strongly, that, uh, she thought I would be disloyal because I'm married to Jack. Does that sound right to you? 3E6FCCF4.JPG

Victor: Well, not having been there, I'm at a disadvantage.

Phyllis: Yes, of course. Of course you are, um... listen, Victor, I was up against it last fall. I mean, you know that. Thanks to our mutual friend Diane Jenkins, but I delegated heavily into Christmas, and the numbers held steady despite the lousy economy. I defy anyone who didn't go through what I went through to say that I didn't give it my all. Listen, I love this job. I love what I do here. I've worked my butt off for brash & sassy. I'm a force to be reckoned with on the internet.

Victor: You say the issue of parenting was brought up? 3E6FCD23.JPG

Phyllis: Yes, yes, it was all part and parcel of "she's not dedicated enough." Okay, last night I came here with Kyle. It was after hours. I just wanted to get some extra work done. Obviously, that was a faux pas to Victoria. I told her it wouldn't happen again, and it won't. We have a nanny. You have day care here at the company. Kyle is a priority. He's a very important priority, but once I walk off that elevator, or I log on to my terminal at home, I'm working, that's it. I also got the impression that there's some huge project in the wind, and I want to go on record with you right now, and Victoria and Neil, that I am on board. I'm motivated. I'm excited. I love what I do here. That'll never change. My work speaks for itself, Victor. Listen, all I say is that you look at my track record before you dismiss me.

Frederick: I have a law degree myself, Jill. That's why I'm surprised your brother would try a stunt like that. You really could've gotten in trouble.

Jill: Well, the minute the supervisor told us that she needed to see a court order, he backed right off.

Frederick: Yeah, but still he knew that he was soliciting a felony, right?

Jill: Well, what can I say? He loves me. You know, he knows how important this is to me.

Frederick: Well, in any case, it didn't work, huh?

Jill: No. The woman was so full of her own authority. I swear she actually enjoyed preventing me from seeing my own birth record. 3E6FCE60.JPG

Frederick: Jill, there are reasons why the law protects birth parents.

Jill: Damn it, I didn't ask to be adopted. I should not be kept in the dark about something this important.

Frederick: You'll get a look at your original birth certificate, okay? But we'll do it playing by the rules.

Jill: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I know that you're trying to help. It's just this thing is keeping me awake nights.

Frederick: Yeah, well, I've already opened an informal file on the case.

Jill: "Informal"?

Frederick: Personal, private, just between you and me.

Jill: Thank you.

Frederick: So far it consists of this letter that I've written to a close acquaintance of mine. He happens to own an adoption search agency upstate. 3E6FCE84.JPG

Jill: Oh, great. Okay, so "beginning the process... and necessary paperwork... notification... possible refusal." See, I am very grateful for this, but it confirms all my suspicions.

Frederick: What do you mean?

Jill: That this is gonna take a very long time.

Frederick: Yeah, but this'll help speed things up, Jill.

Jill: Yeah, but at the end of the day, my birth parents will still have the right to say, "thanks, but no, thanks. We don't want her to contact us. We don't want our daughter, our flesh and blood, to be able to find us."

Frederick: They could do that.

Jill: And then all the piping and the waiting and the anticipating... I mean, it'll all be for nothing. 3E6FCEAD.JPG

Frederick: Let's not assume that.

Jill: I can't do this. I can't do it.

Frederick: Jill, you know, it's the only thing you can do. You and your brother already have tried to go in the back door. Didn't work.

Jill: Can't we give that one more try? Because I gotta tell you, I cannot see going through this whole process and then having a brick wall thrown up in front of my face.

Frederick: I won't let that happen. I won't let them do that to you.

Jill: Why are you helping me with this?

Frederick: Because I consider you my very good friend. 3E6FCEE0.JPG

Wes: So tell me about these offers.

Dru: Okay. Well, Jabot and Newman enterprises-- they're launching a new cosmetics line for African American women.

Wes: Oh, that sounds promising.

Dru: And Jack and Ashley want me to be their national spokeswoman. I'm gonna be doing all kinds of traveling. I'm gonna be dealing with public relations. I'm gonna be a player again.

Wes: All right, okay, so what about the Newman offer?

Dru: It's weak. It's weak. Yeah, Neil wants me to do some modeling for print ads. Now you know...

Wes: Okay, so obviously, the Jabot offer's more prestigious. 3E6FCEFD.JPG

Dru: Yeah, but I'd rather be working with my--with Neil. You know, I don't really get along with Ashley.

Wes: Did you tell Neil that?

Dru: No! No, I'm trying to get him to turn the corner and offer me something comparable to what jabot's offering me.

Wes: You know, it's, um, it's too bad you can't just be upfront with Neil. These little secrets have a way of coming back to bite you. Besides, it'd be good if he knew he wasn't the only game in town.

Dru: Yeah, well, I don't wanna blow my deal with Jabot, you know.

Wes: All right, let's see. If you take this offer from Jabot, then you get in trouble with Neil, right? That's the competition?

Dru: Yeah, but Neil's trying to give me some table scraps. Jabot's serving up, what, filet mignon. 3E6FCF2B.JPG

Wes: What do you want me to do, Dru? Do you want me to tell you to take the Jabot offer?

Dru: No, I'm just talking out loud, okay? I'm just trying to figure out things in my head.

Wes: Well, it sounds to me like your decision's already made.

Dru: You do know me like a book.

Wes: I gotta warn you, though.

Dru: Huh?

Wes: There could be a price to pay. You let me know how things turn out.

Dru: I will.

Wes: Good luck.

Dru: Thanks... I think.

Dru: Jack Abbott, please. Drucilla Winters.

Victor: Let me ask you something. Given the quality of your work and given your dedication which you've shown over the years, why would Victoria and Neil be prompted to call into question your loyalty?

Phyllis: Because my last name is Abbott. Um, they feel it's a conflict of interest if I were to betray this company, which I never have done.

Phyllis: Victor, I'm not going to go blabbing to our rival. I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna get trumped. I mean, forget ethics. My ego's too big.

Victor: You make a compelling case.

Phyllis: Compelling enough to be reinstated? 3E6FD063.JPG

Victor: I'll take it under advisement.

Phyllis: Thanks for listening.

Victor: Thank you for coming by.

Jill: Frederick, um, I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you're doing for me.

Frederick: Well, it's my pleasure. I mean that.

Jill: I've never been known as the world's most patient woman.

Frederick: Well, you're a passionate woman. You feel things strongly. There's nothing wrong with that

Jill: Thank you.

Frederick: Just do me a favor, huh? Promise me that you won't try to find anything more about your birth parents on your own, that you won't beg, borrow or steal to try and get a copy of that original birth certificate. Hmm? Understand? 3E6FD0AD.JPG

Jill: Yeah, I understand.

Frederick: Good.
