Chris: Isabella would come running to you, and why you would even give her the time of day?
Michael: Chris, the woman was desperate.
Chris: So why would you even care? Especially when she tried to con you while she was pregnant.
Michael: I don't see any point in holding obviously, the woman was just as desperate back then. Chris: Even if you did manage to forgive her, why would you go out of your way to develop a relationship?
Michael: I wouldn't exactly call this a re.
Chris: Then what would you call it?
Michael: Isabella came to me
because she was upset,
and she felt that I should know what happened between you
and Paul because it affected me,
too.
Now I don't want you
to feel bad.
I just want you to understand
why I was willing to take on
Isabella as a client.
Chris: But still, that's only half the equation. Why would she turn to you? What was it about being questioned about her ex-husband that threw this woman such a tizzy? I'm sorry that I even have to ask this, but I cannot ignore my gut instinct, Michael, that she is hiding something.
Isabella: Ricky drifted right off. Paul?
Paul: Yeah, that's good. Thanks for putting him down.
Isabella: Have you given any thought to what I said?
Paul: Yeah. I've made a horrible mess of things, haven't I?
Isabella: I need you
to hear me, Paul.
You need to get Christine
out of your life.
She's destroying you,
and she's turned you
into a man I don't even know.
Paul: I'm sorry.
Isabella: Your little boy and I miss you so much. The longer this goes on, the more you allow Christine to pull your strings. Can't you see how much damage it's doing to everyone?
Paul: Yeah. I-I-I know I neglected you and...
Isabella: You didn't set out to.
Paul: No, no, I didn't. But that's no excuse.
Isabella: No, you're right. It's not. But Christine didn't intend to hurt us and she has over and over, because she can't let go. So now it's up to you, Paul.
Lily: Mom.
Dru: Hmm?
Lily: What are you doing?
Dru: Nothing.
What does it look like
I'm doing?
Lily: Searching for zits.
Dru: I don't have any of those imperfections, honey.
Lily: Then why are you staring at yourself in that mirror?
Dru: I'm just checking, okay?
Lily: For what? Wrinkles?
Dru: I don't have any of those either.
Lily: Okay, I give up.
Dru: Baby, do you think I'm still beautiful?
Lily: Of course I do. Everyone does. Why do you ask?
Dru: Well, Newman enterprises is launching a new cosmetics line, and your father has asked me to participate in the campaign.
Jack: Oh, you bet I'm going to do something. Yeah, just watch. Damn it!
Jack: Ash,
get up here pronto.
Okay, get here as soon
as you can, all right?
We've got a problem.
Phyllis: Hey, there's daddy!
Jack: Hey! Hey, slugger! How you doing? What brings you out so late?
Phyllis: Oh, he's wide awake. Aren't you, sweetie?
Jack: Is that a good sign or a bad sign?
Phyllis: Oh, just look at his smile, and you'll be able to tell.
Jack: It's good to see you, buddy. How you doing?
Phyllis: Uh-huh, yeah. Well, I'll, uh... I'll let you boys... I'll let you have some fun together.
Jack: What? Excuse me?
Phyllis: Well, since you two are having such a great time together, I thought I'd leave for a couple hours.
Jack: Wait, where? Where are you going?
Phyllis: To Newman enterprises.
Jack: Now?
Phyllis: Yes, now. Jack, it's been a long time since I showed my face there. I should get over there while I still have a job.
Victoria: Is Phyllis ever planning on gracing us with her presence?
Bryce: Well she's been working from home.
Victoria: Look, I admire your loyalty, but she hasn't been here for months. Neil! Neil, I need to talk to you.
Neil: Yeah, sure. What's up?
Victoria: Okay, I will either be here or in my office. When she comes in, if she comes in, I want to know about it.
Bryce: Sure.
Victoria: Thank you.
Neil: Is something going on?
Victoria: We gotta deal
with this Phyllis situation.
Neil: Uh, I wasn't aware there was one.
Victoria: There is, and we have to deal with it now.
Dru: Aren't you gonna say anything?
Lily: No offense,
but aren't you a little old
to keep modeling?
Dru: Your daddy doesn't seem to think so.
Lily: Well, he's prejudiced.
Dru: He thinks I have beautiful skin. In fact, he said my face was magnifique.
Lily: Oh, kind of like Mount Rushmore.
Dru: Don't make me slap the black off of you.
Lily: Chill, mom. I'm just teasing.
Dru: You'd better be.
Lily: But didn't Sid kind of tell you that your modeling days were over?
Dru: Sid who? Honey, this is something like I've never done before.
Lily: What do you mean?
Dru: Well, you have
different types of modeling.
You have your fashion modeling,
and then you have
your print ads for cosmetics.
Lily: Oh, so one's like, the whole body, and the other's just your face.
Dru: Exactly.
Lily: So dad's really serious about this?
Dru: Yeah. Why wouldn't he be?
Lily: Well, I don't know. I just know that he's been all gaga over you lately. I mean, couldn't he just be telling you this stuff to flatter you?
Victoria: When we acquire Satine, we are going have to hit the ground running as far as marketing goes. Internet sales are going to be key.
Neil: Which bring us to Phyllis.
Victoria: Yeah, our invisible webmaster.
Neil: Vicki, let's be fair.
She has been working.
Victoria: From her dining room table.
Neil: Maybe so. Still doing a good job.
Victoria: Neil, that's not enough. We need someone who's gonna do a spectacular job. This is a huge expansion for us.
Neil: Okay, so this is what we do. We light a fire under Phyllis, right? Get her back full-time. What? You don't agree?
Victoria: Let's just look at the players, all right? Let's look at the level of commitment. You don't see a problem with this situation? Like, maybe that Phyllis is married to Jack Abbott?
Neil: What? That's suddenly a problem?
Victoria: Given where
her priorities lie these days,
yeah, I think it might be.
Come on, Jabot is not going
to jettison their plans
just because we beat them to
the punch with Satine cosmetics.
They're going to come out
with their own line.
Neil: Created by Ashley.
Victoria: Exactly. I see us going head to head. It's gonna get cutthroat.
Neil: Divided loyalties.
Victoria: And we're putting Phyllis right in the middle of things. Can we really afford to take that risk?
Jack: You've been keeping up with your work, haven't you?
Phyllis: Yeah, you know, I've been working from home, yes, but I need to show my face in the office, check in.
Jack: Okay, fine, but, honey, he can't stay here.
Phyllis: Why not?
Jack: Well, because I'm at work. I'm working.
Phyllis: But nobody else can watch him.
Jack: Wait. Define nobody.
Phyllis: Nobody is at home,
and I can't get a hold
of the nanny right now.
Jack: So how about Diane? Give her a call.
Phyllis: I don't... I don't want to call her, Jack.
Jack: Honey, you're the one that walked her back into our lives.
Phyllis: I know I did that.
Jack: Well, has she done something wrong?
Phyllis: No, she hasn't.
Jack: Honey, what is it?
Phyllis: Listen, um, he's doing so well.
Kyle: Mama, mama.
Phyllis: Listen to him. He's doing so well. When he comes back from Diane's, it's always a setback.
Jack: This, too, shall pass.
Kyle: Mama! Mama!
Phyllis: Jack, please, don't make me call her, please. Listen, just sit him by your computer or something.
J Jack: Honey,
what is it about
"I'm busy. I can't do it..."
Phyllis: I got it. I understand. Okay.
Jack: Sweetheart, I'm sorry. Okay?
Phyllis: No problem. All right, sweetie! Let's go, Kyle. You're gonna go to my work with me!
Jack: You're taking him to Newman enterprises?
Phyllis: Uh-huh.
Jack: Honey...
Phyllis: Let's go, baby!
Kyle: Mama!
Phyllis: That's right! (footsteps approach)
Ashley: Where's the fire? When you phoned, I was right in the middle of a conference call with our supplier in Japan.
Jack: Well, I'm very sorry. We got a serious problem.
Ashley: What's going on?
Jack: I heard a rumor
from one of my spies that
another cosmetics company
is looking to acquire Satine.
Ashley: No, 90% of those rumors turn out to be false.
Jack: Yeah, well, I had hoped for that. Only I checked this out. It turns out it's true.
Ashley: Well, who's our competition?
Jack: I have no idea. But, god, their sense of timing leaves a lot to be desired.
Ashley: Not surprised. I've known for a while the market is ripe for a high-quality product line for black consumers.
Jack: Damn it! I just thought--I was so sure we had the inside track on this.
Ashley: We don't have to go
to our funeral quite yet, do we?
What's wrong with a little
healthy competition?
Let's put our track shoes on.
Let's get in this race.
Lynne: I am so anxious to hear about your trip.
Mary: Later, Lynne. I've got much more important things on my mind right now. Where do things stand with Paul and Isabella? Has my son finally walked out on that awful woman?
Lynne: I know that would be a relief for you.
Mary: Oh, my dear. You have no idea. And I haven't talked to Paul recently, so whatever you can tell me.
Lynne: I honestly don't know where things stand at the moment, but I definitely think there could be a change in the wind.
Mary: Meaning what?
Lynne, listen, I promise.
Anything you say to me
stays right within these
four walls.
Lynne: You know, when the time is right, I know you'll hear from Paul.
Mary: Well, at least I know that Isabella's out of that apartment. Has their separation at least become official?
Lynne: Oh.
Mary: What is it?
Lynne: You're not gonna like this.
Mary: What?
Lynne: Isabella moved back in for Ricky's sake. But wait, I still think we can be optimistic, Mrs. Williams.
Mary: Oh, no, it just can't be, not again.
Paul: I thought I had let go. I mean, I honestly thought that Chris and I were finished.
Isabella: But you didn't
accept that deep down because
when she took up
with Michael Baldwin--
Paul: God, I hate that bastard.
Isabella: See, Paul, to you it's a personal attack, his being with Christine. If it was really over between you two, it wouldn't have mattered. The whole night of the christening, none of that would have happened.
Paul: I just wish I could take it back.
Isabella: Oh, honey, I know.
I know how terrible you feel.
And I'm not trying to pile on
more guilt.
I want you to see what I see.
And I see an amazing, kind,
loving man who's just completely
lost himself.
I mean, did you ever think that
you were capable of forcing
yourself on a woman?
Did you ever think in your
entire life that you could
do that?
No, of course not, but you did.
Why?
Because you allowed Christine
to become this obsession.
Paul: I never wanted that to happen. I didn't even know it was happening until--
Isabella: I know. Until that night.
Paul: See, Baldwin, he was just-- he was pushing all my buttons. And finally, I just lost it.
Isabella: Can you really blame Michael for your behavior?
Paul: No, I told you before I am not trying to absolve myself.
Paul: I'm just trying to explain what was going through my head. I had tunnel vision. I mean, I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know where I was going. And now I am forced to live with it.
Michael: Isabella came to me
because she thought I was
the only person in this town
who she could talk to.
Chris: Not Paul, her husband?
Michael: Well, after all the problems they've h since the christening? Not that she ever knew why he suddenly isn't available to her.
Chris: Go on. Now we're talking about a woman who is very isolated, who feels more alone every day. Now suddenly, someone comes to her door, asking all kinds of questions about james. A stranger who leads her to believe that she's a parole officer.
Chris: You're saying that Kelly's first visit rattled her.
Michael: Yeah.
Chris: That surprises me.
Michael: Why?
Chris: Because she didn't
seem rattled, not in the least.
For a woman who was supposedly
terrorized by her ex-husband,
hearing that he might be
released, she took the news
extremely well.
Michael: All I'm saying is that the Isabella who called me, pleading for help sounded very unhinged, so I checked some things out for her. And when I found out that this Kelly Simmons was a fraud, naturally, I got a little intrigued. What?
Chris: Why didn't you call the police, report this woman? Instead, you pursued her. You had conversations with her. You did your damnedest to get close to her. If you really wanted to help Isabella, why did you get caught up in all those games? Did you know that regular-sized pads
Jack: You know what? I like your spirit.
Ashley: This is my baby. I'm not going down without a fight.
Jack: I want this!
I want it badly, and I know
you have dreamed about this
for over a year.
Ashley: More than just a dream--I've done a lot of research. I happen to know there's a lot of African American women out there that aren't happy with the products that are available to them. Still, this is a substantial addition to our cosmetics line.
Jack: Which makes Satine perfect. We don't have to start from scratch.
Ashley: So what's our next step?
Jack: So we light a fire under the legal department.
Ashley: Okay.
Jack: Get them to speed things up. If they don't accept our first offer, we up the ante.
Ashley: We see how high we're willing to go.
Jack: There is another
decision we have to make.
Ashley: Our spokesperson.
Jack: I know you have spoken to Drucilla already, right?
Ashley: Briefly.
Jack: Honey, she's perfect.
Ashley: Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Jack: She's high-exposure. She's beautiful. She's the--you're still having problems with this.
Ashley: After our talk, I decided she would be adequate.
Jack: Well, gee, there's a ringing endorsement.
Ashley: Sorry. 'S's the best I can do. We got to a get a move-on. Let's get our ducks in a row.
Jack: Okay, ash, she'll be great. You'll see. And we'll make her an offer she can't refuse.
Ashley: You don't have to
worry about Drucilla.
She wants this job so bad
she can taste it.
Dru: Your father never would have asked me to do the assignment if he didn't think I could cut it.
Lily: But aren't most models usually in their teens and 20s? I mean, dad ought to be asking me to model.
Dru: You? You kids. You're so funny. I mean, a person's a little over 29anand you're ready to cart 'em off to the nursing home.
Lily: I just hate to see you get your hopes up. If it turns out dad was just being nice...
Dru: Dad was not just being nice, and I'm not over the hill.
Lily: No, mom, you're still really beautiful... for someone your age.
Dru: Thank you, Lily. Thanks.
Lily: I'm not trying to hurt
your feelings.
It's just I don't want to see
you become one of those older
women who try to act like
they're still young.
It's so... pathetic.
(Telephone rings)
Lily: Want me to get that?
Dru: No, I think I can hobble over to the phone without your help. Hello.
Jack: Drucilla, Jack Abbott.
Dru: Jack.
Jack: Dru, you remember the proposition I discussed with you a while back?
Dru: How can I forget?
Jack: I know it's late. I was hoping you might drop by Jabot to my office. My sister and I would love to discuss it with you a bit further.
Dru: I can see you in an hour.
Jack: Okay, we'll be expecting you.
Lily: Who was that?
Dru: Oh, Jabot. They want to talk to me about a job.
Lily: A modeling job?
Dru: Yeah, you see, your father's not the only one who still thinks I have what it takes. (Dru humming)
Phyllis: Oh, no. Oh, Kyle, wow! Oh, boy, lookee there! Look, you got into all of Phyllis' files. Okay, all right, well, we're just-- we're gonna play over here now. All right. Here we go. We'll play with the doggie right here, okay? Whew. Okay, here, the doggie.
Neil: Ahem.
Phyllis: Hey, guys. Hi, um... you remember Kyle.
Victoria: Yeah, yeah.
Wow, he's really gotten big.
Haven't seen him
since the wedding.
Phyllis: Yes, yes, he is a handful. That's for sure. Um, how you two doing?
Neil: Phyllis, there's something that we need--
Phyllis: Listen, listen, this is not gonna be a regular thing. It's just that the day care people left at 6.
Kyle: Ha.
Phyllis: Yeah.
Victoria: Well, maybe your assistant wouldn't mind watching him.
Phyllis: Listen, it's no problem. We can have a meeting--
Victoria: Hey, Bryce, could you come in here for a second and grab Kyle? We're going into a meeting. Great. Thanks.
Bryce: Excuse me. Come here, buddy.
Phyllis: Here you go.
Bryce: I've got some cookies in my desk for you.
Phyllis: Okay, sounds important. What's going on?
Victoria: It is important. Phyllis, we're letting you go.
Ashley: Will you please make
sure and have them ship it out
tonight?
I need to have it in my hands
first thing tomorrow morning.
Okay. Thank you.
(Intercom buzzes)
Ashley: Yeah, Daphne. Okay, send her in. Thank you.
Dru: Hi, Ashley.
Ashley: Hi. Have a seat.
Dru: Is it just you and me again?
Ashley: No, Jack stepped out for a second. He'll be back in a minute.
Dru: Good. 'Cause for a minute there, I thought I was getting another one of your trust lectures.
Ashley: I thought that matter was settled. You assured me I had no reason to be concerned.
Dru: That is a done deal. I would sooner slit my wrists than put your business out on the street.
Ashley: Drucilla.
Dru: I'm serious. Relax. I'm not going to say anything.
Ashley: Just so we understand
each other.
Dru: We do.
Ashley: So Jack didn't tell you too much on the phone.
Dru: No, but he said that you guys wanted to see me, and he sounded really jazzed.
Ashley: Yeah, we both are. We've decided to go ahead with our plans to expand with a line of cosmetics for African American women.
Jack: Sorry to keep you ladies waiting. Hi, Dru.
Dru: Jack.
Jack: I assume Ashley's filled you in a bit.
Dru: Yeah, she just was telling me that you're forging ahead with this cosmetics line for femmes du couleurs, women of color.
Jack: Femmes du couleurs. I like that. Still interested?
Dru: Wouldn't be here
if I wasn't.
Of course, that does depend
on what you're putting
on the table.
Phyllis: This is a joke, isn't it?
Phyllis: All right. You have my attention. What's going on?
Neil: Phyllis, we're going to release you from your contract.
Phyllis: This is coming out of nowhere.
Victoria: Not really.
Phyllis: Oh, okay. Listen, listen, I know you haven't been crazy about my working at home. That's fine. It's a wake-up call. Okay, I get it. You guys, you know what I've been up against. It never affected my work. The numbers have held steady.
Victoria: The numbers would
have increased if we have had
a webmaster who was able
to commit.
Phyllis: I know. I'm not making excuses.
Neil: Well, we understand that.
Phyllis: Listen, everything is behind me. That's all in the past now. I'm ready to rock 'n' roll full-speed ahead, all right?
Victoria: With a 2 year old? I don't think so.
Phyllis: Since when is having a 2 year old a firing offense?
Victoria: Phyllis...
Phyllis: I told you it was a 1-time deal having him here, okay? It's not going to affect my performance.
Victoria: You're right. It won't.
Neil: Very sorry, Phyllis. It's just not gonna work out.
Michael: A game?
You have been back
all this time,
playing a masquerade,
trying to what?
Investigate me?
Letting me go on suffering,
not knowing whether you were
alive or dead.
Chris: You know, we're talking about you, not me. For a very busy attorney who was suffering, no less, you've put a lot of time and energy into this favor for Isabella.
Michael: Yeah. It was a good distraction.
Chris: It was obviously a hell of a lot more than that. Michael, before I took off my disguise, you were extremely aggressive. You were practically threatening Lynne and Kelly. Why would you be so adamant about our backing off of Isabella?
Michael: You were harassing my client. I wasn't gonna put up with that.
Chris: Okay, that's all there
was to it?
There was nothing more at stake
for you?
Michael: All right, what are you getting at?
Chris: I don't want to do this. I really--I don't.
Michael: Say it. Say it. Say it.
Chris: I need an honest answer from you. Is there something about you and Isabella that I don't know about, that you've kept from me?
Isabella: I've said this
so many times out of my own
insecurity, but it doesn't make
it any less true.
Paul, you have to stay away
from Christine.
Because if you don't, you'll
never be free of her, and your
life is just gonna disintegrate.
And all the dreams we've shared
for Ricky--they'll be gone.
And I'll be raising him.
And he'll grow up
in a broken home.
Paul: I understand what you're telling me.
Isabella: I'm not saying this as a threat. It's just if Christine is gonna have a presence in our life-- of course, I'm saying that, hoping you still want a life with me.
Paul: Are you sure you want to be with me?
Isabella: Yes, Paul, I do. I love you.
Paul: Even now?
Isabella: I want our marriage, not at all costs, but I'm willing to put in the work if you are. I made a commitment to you the day we got married, and I've given you a beautiful little boy, and I've tried to make a happy home for us.
Paul: I know
and in return, I have put you
through hell.
Isabella: Never again. I won't be part of it, if you tell me deep in your heart that you can't be happy with me. Paul, I'll give you whatever you want. You just tell me what it is. Is it a marriage or a divorce?
Lynne: Please don't be discouraged.
Mary: But, Lynne, if Isabella has moved back in...
Lynne: All right, I'll tell you this much. I am more convinced than ever that Michael Baldwin and Isabella were in cahoots somehow.
Mary: In the past, you mean.
Lynne: Yes, it's just a matter of time until I prove it. I really believe that, and then Isabella won't have a leg to stand on.
Mary: Yes, Lynne, but what
you're saying, it's--
there's still no hard evidence.
It's all speculation.
Lynne: I know it's upsetting, but you just have to be patient.
Mary: That's all I've been, ever since I learned how deceitful she is. Patience. While I've hoped with all my heart again and again that Paul would finally be on the verge of noticing it, too. But every time-- every single time, it's one step forward, two steps back, sinking her claws in deeper and deeper.
Lynne: You okay?
Mary: You know, Lynne,
it's fashionable these days
to blame bad behavior
on emotional problems--
trauma, insanity,
rotten childhoods.
But people forget
there's another force
in this world,
one that's much more powerful
and insidious.
Lynne: What force is that?
Mary: Evil. The devil's work.
Lynne: Mrs. Williams, I know you detest that woman, but that's off the deep end a little, isn't it?
Mary: Mm.
Paul: You know, all I ever wanted my whole life is a wife and kids... and a family of my own. And I have totally blown it. I have turned my back on you and Ricky time and time again. And that is wrong.
Isabella: So you're saying you're giving up?
Paul: I am saying that
I owe you an apology
that goes beyond words.
You see,
I have to show you
and I have to prove it to you
that I can be the kind
of husband that you deserve.
Isabella: You don't... you don't want a divorce?
Paul: No, I-I don't. I have enough failures in that department. But it is time for me to wake up and make some changes-- some changes with you and our relationship.
Isabella: Oh, Paul...
Paul: I am going to do my best to be a better husband. Although I don't know that I have the ability to be good for anyone. But I am certainly gonna try. That is my promise to you.
Michael: You think I'm lying to you.
Chris: Are you?
Michael: Do you know
how much I love you?
Do you know how much
I wanna make a life with you?
But not a life based on lies
and half-truths.
It wouldn't work.
I wouldn't try to make it work.
Chris: You still haven't answered the question.
Michael: No, Chris.
There's nothing
about Isabella and me
that you should know.
If I had had any idea
how it would affect you, I...
I would never have taken her on
as a client.
Everything I care about
in this world, all I've been
focused on since you left was,
you know, where you could be,
whether you were safe,
and when you would come home
to me.
Sometimes I wasn't sure
if you ever would.
But I held on.
It was tough.
Oh, but I did it,
'cause I couldn't give up hope,
couldn't give up the dream.
Because what I want
more than anything
in this world--in this life--
is to be by your side.
Michael: To have a life together. And I would never do anything to jeopardize that--never. I love you. I love you.
Michael: But I guess sometimes that's not enough. ñ
Jack: Daphne, please hold all calls. Ladies, shall we get down to business? I assume Ashley has filled you in on what we are hoping for.
Dru: We talked.
Jack: We're looking for someone with experience to be a spokesperson for a whole new line of cosmetics for Jabot.
Ashley: Jack's looked at other models, but apparently keeps coming back to you.
Jack: You have
the credentials.
You have the look.
Ashley: We need somebody whom African Americans of all ages will emulate.
Dru: And how much modeling will I be doing?
Jack: Very little.
Dru: Really? I thought it--
Jack: There's a reason for that. You'll be too busy.
Dru: Jack, I don't follow.
Jack: This is what we're looking for. We want someone to handle the young models-- someone to introduce the whole line to the media.
Ashley: You'll be traveling all over the planet pushing our product.
Jack: Yes, we see that
any experience you've gained
is lost if we just use your face
in a couple of ads.
No, we're asking you to be
the voice of this line,
able to influence women
in a very powerful way all around the world.
Ashley: It's a full-time commitment, Dru.
Jack: Oh, yes. If you're looking for part-time work, this is not the job for you.
Ashley: You'd be an important part of the Jabot team. We'll be counting on you for all sorts of things.
Jack: Is there a problem with that?
Dru: Are you crazy? This sounds fabulous.
Jack: Well, good, because if this works out, Dru, you will be a real presence in the industry once again.
Dru: When do you need an answer?
Jack: Well, we don't wanna pressure you, but we would like to know as soon as possible if you're interested.
Ashley: If it all goes
the way we hope,
it could move very quickly.
Jack: Once we have you locked in, assuming this project moves ahead, we're gonna need you on very short notice.
Ashley: So what do you think?
Dru: I think it sounds incredible.
Jack: Well, terrific.
Ashley: She knows a sweet deal when she hears one. By the way, it's imperative you keep your mouth shut.
Dru: Seems to be the order of the day.
Jack: Well, I'll tell you what. I'll be in touch with legal and have them draw up a proposal right away.
Dru: Beautiful.
Jack: Ladies, let's hope
this happens quickly. Dru, if this works out,
you will be the spokesperson for
the first new line of cosmetics
for Jabot in years.
Dru: So exciting.
Ashley: Congratulations.
Dru: Thank you, Ashley.
Phyllis: All right, you know what? Something doesn't smell right here.
Victoria: Meaning what?
Phyllis: Meaning I don't understand this. I mean, you're just firing me without any warning, no second chance?
Victoria: What about the last five months?
Phyllis: Victoria,
are you kidding me?
I've done excellent work
for you.
My track record
speaks for itself,
and before you shoot that down,
let's not forget that you
came to me, you hired me,
you lured me away from Jabot.
So what's really going on here?
Jump in anytime.
Neil: Um, you mentioned Jabot.
Phyllis: Yeah, so what?
Victoria: Well, you loved it there. Why not go back? You have a hell of an in with the C.E.O.
Neil: Kind of a blessing in disguise.
Victoria: Absolutely.
Phyllis: I'm not buying this.
Victoria: Well, no one's asking you to buy anything, Phyllis. We're severing ties. I'm sorry, but it's a business decision.
Phyllis: Wait a second.
Jabot.
That's what this is, isn't it?
Mm-hmm. You don't trust me
because I haven't been around
much, and you're afraid
that there'll be a conflict
of interest just in case
things heat up competitively.
Victoria: Look, we've given you the reasons for your termination.
Phyllis: Reasons? You haven't given me any reason. You're thinking of expanding Brash & Sassy, aren't you? And although it hasn't happened ever, you're afraid I'm gonna go running to Jack.
Neil: Phyllis, this outlines your severance package from Newman enterprises, and I think you'll find it very generous.
Victoria: Thank you for everything. Good luck.
Neil: Thanks, Phyllis.
