Michael: Well, well. Miss Simmons. Going somewhere?
Chris: (Southern accent) I was indeed.
Michael: Oh! Perfect timing.
Lynne: Get out of here, Michael. Michael: Why?
And deprive myself
of the pleasure
of watching you squirm?
Not that there was ever
much doubt the two of you
were in this together.
Lynne: If you think I give a damn what you think--
Michael: Stow it. Lynne, please, we've got a lot of ground to cover, starting with where your little operative was going in such a rush.
Chris: Actually, I was off to pay you another visit. Our last conversation wasn't all that satisfyin'.
Michael: That was a grotesque understatement.
Chris: Now that you're here...
Michael: Now e, we're gonna do things my way. Now I want to know exactly what you two are up to. And nobody's l until I get answers.
Paul: Did you have a good day? (Door opens)
Paul: If you get
a few more miles...
hi.
Isabella: Hi.
Paul: Your mommy? Can you say hi to mommy?
Isabella: There's my big boy. There's my big boy.
Paul: He's been jabbering up a storm today.
Isabella: Really?
Paul: Yeah. He's gonna be running for mayor soon, I think.
Isabella: Sounds like you guys had a good day.
Paul: I think we did. What do you think? You have a good day?
Isabella: I'm sure he liked spending time with his daddy.
Paul: Well, he seemed to.
Wanna go play?
Gonna let me talk to your mom?
You wanna go play
in your playpen? Come on.
Here we go.
(Imitates airplane sounds)
Isabella: So what time's the sitter coming tomorrow?
Paul: 8:00. Oh, the library called.
Isabella: My book in?
Paul: Yeah.
Isabella: Good.
Paul: Are you hungry, or...?
Isabella: No, I already ate.
Paul: Okay. I guess I'll just make myself a sandwich then.
Isabella: Paul, wait. We can't go on like this. I can't do this anymore.
Wes: You were coming to see me, Dru?
Olivia: Oh, yeah. That's what she said. Isn't that right, Dru?
Dru: Don't push it.
Wes: Okay, okay, I see. You two ladies are fighting again, is that right?
Olivia: We're having
a little disagreement.
Wes: About what?
Olivia: Actually, it's about you.
Dru: Do you think you could zip it up?
Wes: No, it's about me? And why's that?
Olivia: She knows, okay? She knows what happened between us, and she's more than a little unhappy about it.
Wes: And you felt the need to tell her?
Olivia: You know what? I was standing there and listening to her, and I realized something-- she's comfortable with all of this-- staying with her ex-husband, stringing you along--
Dru: Listen, listen, hussy, I think I can speak for myself.
Wes: Okay, well, why don't
you do that, Dru?
I've got a marriage proposal
sitting on the table,
which you have never answered.
Now were you getting ready
to tell me "yes"?
Is that why you were
coming to see me?
Victor: You told me earlier that Neil was thinking about acquiring this African American cosmetics company.
Victoria: Yeah, you know, I mean, it's... it's a good deal. It's a good company. You really want to talk about this now?
Victor: We may as well because we won't know anything about Cassie's condition until the doctor runs the tests. So what was Neil's idea?
Victoria: It's called Satine.
It's a great company.
I mean, it has a great approach
to marketing.
It has innovative products.
But like so many
startup companies these days,
it doesn't have any money.
So a lot of good, hard work
will die on the vine
if it doesn't get a hand up.
Victor: From someone like brash & sassy?
Victoria: Well, it will be a new division under Newman. I think Satine appeals to all age groups. You know what, dad? I really can't talk about this right now, not while Cassie is fighting for her life.
Victor: I know. Difficult for me to concentrate on anything else, either.
Victor: I just wish I had drained that damn pond years ago.
Victoria: Don't-- don't do this to yourself. Look, let's just hope that Dr. Walker can give us some good news.
Nikki: Is there anything I can do?
Nick: No, thanks.
Nikki: You sure you
don't need--I don't know.
Nick: Come on, what I need is to see my daughter's smile. I need to be able to look into Cassie's eyes and see my little girl again just this empty stare...
Nikki: I know, baby. You will.
Nick: You don't know that.
Nikki: We have to visualize it.
Nick: Just wish Sharon were here.
Nikki: Yeah, well, she damn well should be. I have tried, but I cannot understand how a woman could leave her children like this--
Nick: Mom, I said-- I said I wanted Cassie's mother back. I didn't declare open season on her.
Nikki: She did that herself when she left.
Nick: She doesn't know
anything's wrong.
Nikki: I rest my case.
Nick: Look, I am upset at her enough. I don't need you throwing fuel on the fire.
Nikki: Okay, fine. I'm done. I'm sorry.
Nick: I just wish we'd learn something. This waiting's killing me.
Nikki: Dr. Walker.
Nick: So did the tests show anything? Any response?
Reese: Well, they've only just begun, Nicholas. It's a slow, painstaking process. We want to be meticulous, as I'm sure you understand.
Nikki: But you'll let us know the moment there's news?
Reese: Of course.
Nick: But at this point...
Reese: There's been no change. Cassie's still unresponsive.
Nick: It's just, I look at her and her eyes are open, she's awake...
Nikki: But she's not.
Reese: Well,
the evoked response tests
will hopefully tell us
that the neural signals
are arriving at the brain,
that there is a corresponding
cerebral activity.
Nick: And if you don't see that?
Reese: Then there's little hope of a full recovery, perhaps of any recovery at all. I wish I could put this in easier terms.
Nick: No, I... I don't want false hopes.
Nikki: We just want results, doctor.
Reese: Well, I can call you at home when we get the results.
Nikki: No, we'll be here. We're not going anywhere.
Reese: Okay.
Victoria: Thinking about Nicholas, aren't you?
Victor: Considering what you and I are going through right now, waiting for the doctors to tell us about Cassie's condition, imagine what your brother's dealing with.
Victoria: Well, mom
is out there with him.
Victor: The person that matters the most is not with him.
Victoria: Don't get me started on Sharon, dad. I'm starting to have violent fantasies.
Victor: Wouldn't do any good right now. Nicholas needs his wife by his side.
Victoria: There's something I need to know.
Victor: There's certain questions that I don't think we should discuss right now.
Victoria: No, I'm not gonna let it go. I don't understand why Sharon would just run off the way she did. It doesn't make any sense.
Victor: She's completely unaware of what's happening here.
Victoria: That's not what
I mean, and you know it.
Look, if the story is that Nicholas saw you kissing Sharon,
that you were the one
who was the aggressor,
that you were the one
who lost control...
Victor: Can we please not discuss this right now? Let's worry about what the doctors have to say about Cassie's condition, okay?
Victoria: Listen, dad, I need to be able to understand this. We all do. We all have to get through this somehow. Nicholas is out there struggling with what could be the worst experience of his life and his wife is nowhere to be found. And I just don't understand why she would run off because of something that you did. Unless that's not what happened. Unless it wasn't on your initiative. Was Sharon the aggressor?
Dru: So I find out
that you're sleeping
with my sister,
and you want to propose
marriage to me?
Wes: Look, don't put on a show. It happened one time.
Dru: Oh, one time, that's all? Cool, cool.
Wes: Surely, you can admit that things have not been the greatest between us, Dru.
Dru: That does not give you license to hump her.
Wes: Okay, so what are you saying, living with your ex-husband, you've been pure as the driven snow? No touchy-feely? No sex? Not even once? So it has become intimate?
Dru: Oh, it was no big affair, it was one time.
Wes: I didn't say it was. I asked you if you are ready to marry me.
Dru: You ever heard
of bad timing?
This would be
one of those moments.
Coming over here--
Wes: Why, Dru? Isn't it all about how you feel? Isn't it about what you want?
Olivia: Wow! I really don't belong in this conversation--
Dru: You sure the hell do! You're the one that stirred the pot. Now you want to bounce out of here?
Olivia: Oh, no, no. This is about you two and a relationship. You two have to sort out. I'm clearly not involved.
Dru: Swell.
Wes: Liv, I think you got a point. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to talk to Dru just for a while.
Olivia: No, no, no.
Really, I'm leaving. I have errands to run.
Dru: Bye.
Olivia: You know what?
You two stay here.
Why don't you just, you know,
work things out?
Don't you worry.
I'll be a while.
You know what? Wes, I'm sorry.
I had no idea that your feelings
for my sister ran so deep.
Good luck.
You deserve each other.
Victor: Can we please not pursue this right now? I told you and your brother and your mother that I took responsibility for a very inappropriate moment. Now that was difficult enough, without having to say it over and over--
Victoria: Yeah, but was it the truth? It's important. It may matter more and more in the days to come, especially depending on what happens with Cassie.
Victor: Why?
Victoria: Because Nicholas desperately feels like he needs his wife right now.
Victor: And he does.
Victoria: Yeah, but do you think he'd feel the same way if he thought that she came on to his own father?
Victor: Why does he have to
know any more than I told him?
Victoria: Dad, come on. If he thought that Sharon initiated that kiss after everything that happened with Diego, he wouldn't want to be in the same room with her.
Victor: And what good would that do? What good would that do right now? Use your head.
Victoria: Are you admitting it? Are you saying that Sharon was the aggressor, that she was so upset that she made this inappropriate move?
Victor: Honey, would you please stop it right now?
Victoria: No. You are, aren't you? What are you trying to do, you're trying to protect her?
Victor: Trying to protect their marriage.
Victoria: Why?
Victor: Because the stability of a lot of people's lives depend on that marriage, especially Cassie's, who's fighting for her life right now.
Victoria: Yeah, but we're hoping and praying that Cassie's gonna be all right, and we have to realize what kind of world she's gonna live in. It can't be based on a lie.
Victor: Let me tell you
something, sweetheart,
a lot of marriages out there
are based on certain lies,
a lot of skeletons
in a lot of people's closets.
Think of your father's
and your mother's marriage--
how many problems have we
gone through
that threatened
to tear us apart?
We didn't let it happen.
That's why we're here
together now
praying for Cassie to survive
this terrible ordeal.
That's family.
You hold it together,
no matter what happens.
You don't throw it away
because you have a few problems.
Michael: All right, miss Simmons, since you were coming to look for me, why don't you start? What kind game are you and Lynne playing?
Chris: Who said it was a game?
Michael: Then you admit you're after something?
Chris: Aren't we all, Mr. Baldwin?
Michael: Well, obviously you don't intend to be forthcoming, but then again why should you be? You're just the hired help? Lynne here is behind all this nonsense. What could you possibly hope to uncover?
Lynne: I think you have some idea.
Michael: Oh, I see.
All this effort to prove
some ugly little fantasy, huh?
Lynne: No, you and Isabella aren't fantasy. There's a real connection there. As soon as I figure that out--
Michael: Oh, Lynne, Lynne, Lynne, Lynne, get a life! Really, all your meddling in relationships all the time-- it's not healthy.
Lynne: You would know.
Michael: Lynne, if you are a real friend to Christine and Paul, you would stop all the craziness. You see, miss Simmons, Lynne doesn't like the fact that we're in love-- Christine and I. She doesn't like the fact that Christine agreed to be my wife.
Chris: And why is that?
Michael: Because she
decided--she decided that Christine belongs
with her ex-husband--Paul,
a man who's remarried,
who has a child
with his new wife--Isabella.
I'm sure she told you
all about it.
Chris: No. She hasn't told me a thing.
Michael: She didn't, did she? Why not? What possible reason could she offer you for this witch hunt?
Chris: If that's all it is to you, Mr. Baldwin why are you so worked up?
Isabella: I can't stand living with this wall between us. Can we please talk about it?
Paul: Sure. I know you haven't been happy.
Isabella: Not happy? Paul, we haven't said two words to each other since the other day when I walked in on you and that Kelly person.
Paul: Well, look--
Isabella: I don't even
want to discuss it.
I don't care what that woman
said to you.
It's just my life has been
so miserable, I don't think
there's a lot more anyone
can do to make it worse.
Paul: Well, look, you don't deserve to be miserable. It's only because of me and my stupid mistakes.
Isabella: Paul, I'm not-- I'm not asking you to beat yourself up. I just want you to understand what I'm going through.
Dru: Go ahead. Say it.
Wes: Say what?
Dru: You know, the speech you have prepared for me.
Wes: Dru, come on.
Dru: You know, how I shouldn't have gone there because I was doing the same thing myself.
Wes: That's true. You were.
Dru: It wasn't the same as that.
Wes: Oh, it wasn't?
You wanna explain that
to me, Drucilla?
Dru: I thought we had an understanding.
Wes: You did? You really thought that? Don't give me that look.
Dru: What look?
Wes: That look, with those big, beautiful, sad eyes like I'm sitting here breaking your heart.
Dru: Well, you are. You don't know that?
Wes: No, I dot t know that, what I know is that I have been waiting months for an answer to my marriage proposal. And you have said nothing. Now I realize I have my answer.
Dru: Wes, I am not letting
you go, okay?
What happened with Neil,
it was a mistake.
It never should have happened.
I was just kind of feeling low
on my spirit.
I got some bad news around
some work and he was there
to comfort me, that's all.
Wes: So it could've been either one of us, whoever happened to be there--
Dru: No, that's not what I'm saying. Wes, that's not what I'm saying! It was a mistake. It never should have happened.
Wes: I'm not so sure about that, Dru.
Dru: You think I'm lying?
Wes: I'm not so sure it was an accident. You were gonna make a choice at some point. I think you did that. Now as painful as it is, I gotta accept that.
Victoria: So you think that he should just forgive Sharon?
Victor: Well, I don't think it is our place to forgive or not to forgive. I think that's a decision that Nicholas has to make.
Victoria: Without knowing
the truth? Without knowing that his wife
is capable of doing something
like this?
I mean, dad, come on,
this is more than just
a dirty little secret.
I mean, don't you think that
there's a line somewhere,
that once it's crossed
you just can't go back?
Victor: It wasn't that kind of a line. Sharon was very upset. She wasn't herself. It was just a kiss, that's all.
Victoria: And you think it would have stopped there?
Victor: Of course it would have stopped there because I wouldn't let it go on. All I'm saying is that a flawed marriage made up of flawed people is not that uncommon in this world. But if you ask the children, I bet you they will say, "we want our mother and our father together, flaws and all."
Victoria: So you put your money where your mouth is and took the blame yourself.
Victor: It's a small price to pay.
Victoria: For Cassie
and Noah.
Victor: All of us. Sharon may need help. We can get her that help. But the little girl in there cannot get another mother. Now where the hell is the doctor?
Nikki: Honey, it shouldn't be too much longer.
Nick: Doctor said they were gonna take their time. Be careful.
Nikki: I'm all for that. Whatever they have to tell us-- good or bad-- it had better be right.
Nick: You know, I can't stop thinking about where Sharon could be.
Nikki: You have no idea?
Nick: She took a bunch of cash out of the bank on the day she left.
Nikki: Well, that's the first time you've mentioned that.
Nick: Thought she'd be back
by now.
I didn't think it would be
an issue.
Nikki: Yeah, but that letter she wrote--
Nick m mom, people write letters all the time when they're angry, say things they don't mean.
Nikki: Look, I know you don't want to hear it...
Nick: Don't start trashing Sharon again, all right? You know, looking back, it doesn't surprise me she took off.
Nikki: What?! What are you saying?
Nick: This family-- on some level I understand. I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing.
Nikki: I can't believe what I'm hearing.
Nick: Think about it, mom. You never gave Sharon any support.
Nikki: What, do I give her
support for having affairs
with the stable hands?
Nick: It's obvious that Sharon has some issues. But did we ever try to help her? Or did we just punish her?
Nikki: Nicholas--
Nick: Look, I know I'm changing my tune here a little, mom, but you are always on her back. Victoria's ragging her six ways to Sunday, and I never gave her a break, even though she apologized over and over again and begged me to come back home. And then to top it all off, she's got my own father trying to hook up with her. I'm just saying, this stuff with dad--I could see how it could be the final straw.
Nikki: Look, there she is.
Nick: Cassie, hi, sweetheart.
Nikki: Hey, baby.
Nikki: No change? Everything's the same?
Nurse: I'm afraid so, at least for the moment.
Nick: What about the tests? Where are the results?
Nurse: Dr. Walker will be here soon to speak with you.
Victor: You can't give us some kind of review?
Nurse: I wouldn't want to do that, sir. Now can I ask everyone to clear the room? I want to get our girl comfy and hooked up to her monitors.
Nick: We hope you can hear us, baby. We just want you to know how much we love you.
Victoria: We're all here, sweetheart. We're all here.
Dru: Wes, you know that I'm crazy about you. I love you.
Wes: Baby, I know you have
feelings for me,
but this is about so much more
than that.
This is about who you're gonna
spend the rest
of your life with.
Dru: Wesley Carter, you don't even sound like yourself. Did you forget that you followed me all the way here to Genoa city? Man, did you forget that you kept my head on straight in Paris, and that you helped me with Lily, and that you were with me and for me 24/7? And you're just gonna give it up like that?
Wes: Sweetheart, I am not giving up. I'm accepting reality, which is what you need to do, too.
Dru: You've always been my rock. Don't abandon me now, please.
Isabella: Believe me, Paul,
I have regrets I have
to live with, too.
I loved you so much.
And I was desperate to believe
that things would work out
for the best.
And then Ricky was born
and they did--
I had the husband of my dreams,
a child I adore...
I had the perfect life
for a while.
Paul: Until the baptism.
Isabella: Standing
in that church,
I felt so much joy.
You'd given me this
incredible gift--
inviting my father,
encouraging him to be there
for me.
Because of you, papa and I
were able to take a tiny step
back to each other.
That day I swore that I would
never ever let my child
experience the pain
that I went through.
And I would never let my family
fall apart.
Now...
there were just so many things
I pictured in my head.
You know, like Ricky's
first day of school,
and his first communion,
birthdays, little league...
and now I don't even know
if we're gonna be together
next month.
Paul: Isabella--
Isabella: No, you know, you and I have grown apart. And I don't know if we're ever gonna find our way back to each other... or if you even want to. And more and more, I'm starting to doubt.
Paul: Why?
Isabella: Because I keep thinking that you're waiting for Christine to come back so you can work things out with her. Paul, if that's true, you need to tell me. You need to tell me what's in your heart.
Paul: No, you're right, Isabella. I owe you that much. You deserve the truth.
Isabella: I'm listening.
Paul: So I guess
the first thing you should know
is that Chris is already back
in town.
And I have seen her.
Michael: Kelly, miss Simmons, why were you hired? What are you after?
Chris: You hit the nail when we met-- I want information about Isabella Williams.
Michael: Good, okay, information. What kind of information?
Chris: Why does that matter to you?
Michael: Because, I told you, she is my client.
Chris: Then she does have something to hide?
Michael: Wouldn't you hire a lawyer if some stranger came to your door pretending to be a parole officer?
Chris: I think I'd call
the police, Mr. Baldwin.
But a lawyer?
You call a lawyer
if you're in trouble.
Is your client in trouble?
Michael: You two are just... (in mocking southern accent) two peas in a pod.
Chris: Don't be open with us, I will keep on digging.
Michael: No, no, no, you won't. You're gonna lay off Isabella, or you will regret it. Trust me. I know how to fight dirty, too.
Wes: Hold on. Let's get one thing straight. I am not going to abandon you.
Dru: Then what's all this talk about, like, this future with Neil?
Wes: Dru, come on. You two--you have so much history, so much unfinished business. Soon as I got to Genoa city, I could tell you're not really over him.
Dru: All right, so maybe I do
have some unfinished business
with Neil.
Wes: Baby, come on. Look at us. We haven't been right for a while now. And you and Neil-- you're trying to build a home for Lily. I can't stand in the way of that, Dru.
Dru: Well, lily's gonna have a home no matter what. She loves you. You're like a father to her. Like a father. Not her father. Dru, she has a father, and lucky for you, he's the man you wanna be with. I always knew that Neil had this--this pull on you. It took coming here to see just how strong it is.
Dru: I lean on you. I lean on you. What am I gonna to do without you?
Wes: You're gonna be fine.
You are. You're gonna be fine.
You...
listen, just to make sure,
I'm gonna be here.
I'm gonna stick around
at least for a while.
Somebody has got to look after
my two girls, right?
Dru: Yeah.
Wes: You and Lily. I definitely don't want her thinking that I'm abandoning ship.
Dru: I'm so glad you're not going back-- that you're not going back to Paris. You know, she loves you, and it would rock her world if--
Wes: Listen. Shh. Listen to me. I'm gonna be there for Lily no matter what. And if you ever need me, Drucilla, you call me.
Dru: Okay. It won't be the same, though.
Wes: No, it won't. Life changes.
Wes: I got a feeling for you it's gonna be better.
Nikki: A little girl who's
been through as much
as Cassie has--
she's got to be tough.
Nick: You bet she is.
Victor: She's always been wise beyond her years, hasn't she?
Victoria: Even when she was little. Beautiful butterfly who are you flying to? Your wing may be broken but the wind will carry you so fly away find your way little wing the voice inside is echoing dance till dawn little wing then you'll know what the new day will bring
Nick: You are our little girl, and I promise you I'm gonna take care of you for the rest of your life.
Cassie: Does this mean I can call you daddy now?
Nick: I'd love that.
Cassie: Wow. I finally have a real dad. I've always wanted one. Find your way little wing a voice inside is echoing and dance till dawn little wing then you'll know what the new day will bring
Victor: She just has to make it.
Isabella: Well, where you alone with her?
Paul: No, nothing happened, Isabella.
Isabella: You mean, you two didn't--you didn't--
Paul: No, I didn't sleep with her.
Isabella: But you talked about the time you did.
Paul: Yeah, a little.
Isabella: Christine still
loves you, Paul.
It wasn't just about sex.
She wants to be part
of your life.
Paul: No, it wasn't like that.
Isabella: How was it?
Paul: I guess I just needed to tell her how sorry I was.
Isabella: For sleeping with her? Paul, are you truly sorry?
Paul: Oh, yes.
Isabella: Because of Ricky and me? Because you love us?
Paul: Yes. I mean, that's part of it, Isabella, but that's not all of it.
Isabella: Well, what else?
Paul: I guess it's just the way it happened. I...
Isabella: The night of Ricky's christening behind our backs.
Paul: No, that's not it, exactly.
Isabella: Paul, you tell me
that you wanna be honest
with me, and you have to tell me
the truth, even if I don't
wanna hear it.
What are you so sorry about?
Paul: It's the way it happened, Isabella.
Isabella: The way you made love to her?
Paul: No, we didn't make love. It wasn't that way at all. It was ugly and it was cruel, and I was out of my mind.
Isabella: What are you-- what are you trying to say? What did you do?
Isabella: Oh, Paul. You... you couldn't have. What are you saying? Are you saying you raped Christine?
Chris: Fight dirty? Is that what you said to me?
Michael: Yes, I'm afraid I did.
Chris: Is that a threat, Mr. Baldwin?
Michael: Yes, it is. I cannot all y you to continue to harass my client.
Chris: I talked to the woman
one time.
Michael: You went
see her husband.
Chris: No, we ran into each other.
Michael: And you went home with him.
Chris: At the man's invitation, which Isabella found quite threatening'.
Michael: You don't think you'd have a similar reaction? You walk into your own living room, you see your husband talking with a strange woman-- one you don't trust, no less?
Chris: I think she felt threatened for some other reason.
Michael: Well, that doesn't involve you, and it doesn't involve a secretary!
Chris: Then there is another reason.
Michael: Oh!
You've gotta back off.
I'm warning you.
Chris: I can't do that. Not now.
Michael: What's it gonna take for you to stop?!
Chris: The truth.
Chris: (Normal voice) the truth, Michael.
Nick: Hey, doc, did you get the results from the test back?
Reese: Why don't we take a walk into the room over here where we can have a little bit more privacy?
