Jill: [ Sighs ] John? It was a shock, wasn't it -- victor's appearance, coming back from the dead. It was a shock to all of us.
John: Oh, it's more than that. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that the man's alive. But this whole episode is just too bizarre. I mean, the clock is turned back, and everything is supposed to be returned as it was.
Jill: You're talking about jabot, aren't you? I suppose that I'll go back to newman enterprises. What a terrible blow to you.
John: Oh, I'll admit that it was rather wonderful having jabot back in the family again, even for a short time.
[ Sighs ] But right now I'm far more concerned about my son.
Jill: I do see what you're talking about.
John: [ Sighs ] When I think of the fight that we waged, how we went to court to convince a judge that jabot belonged to us and then jack moved into victor's job and carved out a whole new life for himself, and for what? So newman could resurrect himself and then take it all back? I mean, damn that man! He was alive all this time. How dare he play with people's lives like this?
[ Door opens ]
Lauren: Hey, partner. Guess you saw the newspaper this morning.
Brad: Yeah. Did you warn your husband before it hit the fan?
Lauren: I did, but he was upset with me anyway.
Brad: Well, I hope it doesn't raise too much hell on your marriage.
Lauren: Don't worry. I'll handle it.
Brad: [ Sighs ]
Lauren: Something wrong?
Brad: Wrong?
Lauren: Yeah. You look pale, like you've seen a ghost or something.
Brad: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, you don't know how prophetic a statement that is, lauren.
Lauren: What do you mean?
Brad: Maybe you better sit down.
Lauren: You're making this sound very heavy.
Brad: It's an unbelievable story. I received an invitation earlier today to the private dining room at the colonnade room. It was unsigned. I had no idea what it was about.
Lauren: Did you go?
Brad: Along with a few others, yeah. And you'll never guess in a million years what happened.
Lauren: You're making this sound very mysterious. Why don't you just tell me what this is all about?
Brad: The invitation... was from victor newman.
Lauren: What?
Brad: He's alive, lauren. Victor is alive.
Lauren: No, that -- that's absurd.
Brad: I'm telling you, I saw him with my own two eyes! I spoke to him. He's alive.
Lauren: That's impossible.
Brad: Believe me. It's true.
Lauren: [ Sighs ] I can't believe it. Oh, my god. Think of the implications.
Brad: We're all still in shock.
Lauren: I can see why. So, tell me, how did jack abbott take it? Probably had a heart attack.
Brad: He wasn't there.
Lauren: What? Victor didn't invite jack to his second coming -- his archenemy? I would have thought that he would have been top on his list.
Brad: He invited him, but, apparently, jack was called out of town.
Lauren: So, he doesn't know?
Brad: Apparently not. Can you picture his face when he finds out? I mean, if ever a man has set himself up to be castrated, jack did.
Lauren: [ Sighs ]
Douglas: It must have been the most wonderful surprise ever when hope told you about your father.
Victoria: I couldn't believe it was true.
Douglas: What a moment it must have been, old boy.
Victor: Yeah. Well, I think it was one of the most moving moments of my life.
Nick: It's like having the best dream in the world come true.
Victor: [ Chuckling ] Yes.
Victoria: It's everyone's greatest miracle -- having someone they loved and lost come back to them. Our miracle came true.
Victor: Mm-hmm.
Paul: I think hodgekins has forgotten that we're out here waiting.
Christine: He hasn't forgotten. Making us wait is his way of playing the one-upmanship game.
Paul: You know, I really hate to see you come in here like this, hat in hand, having to beg this creep for favors.
Christine: Yeah, well, desperate people take desperate measures.
Paul: Do you honestly think this guy is gonna play ball with you?
Christine: Look, all I can do is hope that, deep down, the man has one shred of decency, one ounce of compassion.
Paul: It doesn't really make much difference. He's already sold the building.
Christine: Yeah, I know, and I suppose it's unrealistic to expect that to change, but if we can just get him to stall, to delay the close of escrow.
Paul: I don't know. I think you're dreaming.
[ Door opens ]
Hodgekins: Mrs. Romalotti. Mr. Williams. How nice to see you both again. Won't you come in? Sweetheart can you please finish your breakfast

Hodgekins: Frankly, I'm surprised to see both of you.
Christine: Why is that?
Hodgekins: Well, I thought whatever business we had together was concluded.
Christine: Look, mr. Hodgekins, I realize we've had our differences. Obviously, we've never seen eye to eye on the situation at rainbow gardens.
Hodgekins: Oh, that's water over the dam, mrs. Romalotti. I'm surprised --
Paul: Why don't you just hear her out, give her a chance, hodgekins?
Christine: Look, I understand you're in business to make a profit. You're very successful at that. But I am here to ask you something important.
Hodgekins: I can tell you right now you're wasting your breath.
Christine: Well, maybe, but I've got to try for the sake of a lot of good, decent people who are on the verge of being displaced, uprooted from homes they have lived in for years and years, and who are about to face very uncertain futures.
Paul: As you may have already guessed, we're having one hell of a difficult time finding places for these seniors to move to.
Hodgekins: Not my problem anymore, mr. Williams.
Christine: Don't you care at all what happens to these people?
Hodgekins: I wish them luck. What more can I do?
Christine: You can delay the sale of your building, for one thing.
Hodgekins: [ Chuckles ] Not a chance.
Christine: I am begging you. We're having a terrible time finding suitable housing. Most of these tenants are on fixed incomes. Some have little more than their social security check to carry them from month to month. Mr. Hodgekins, these are wonderful men and women, people who have lived good, productive lives. Unfortunately, they're not wealthy, but that makes them no less valuable. Now, all I'm asking for is a little more time. You have got the power to grant this request. Please.
Hodgekins: I sense a note of desperation in your voice.
Christine: Yes, howard. I am desperate. We're running out of time. We need an extension now. For god's sake, help us.
Lauren: Oh, my god. Victor newman alive. I still can't believe it.
Brad: I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes. So, what happens to jack now?
Brad: Well, obviously, victor knows that jack's sitting in his office... but I wonder if he's aware just how much jack has shaken up newman enterprises. I mean, he turned it upside down.
Lauren: Well, if he doesn't now, he will soon. And then all hell's gonna break loose.
Brad: I want a front-row seat to watch.
Victor: You have no idea what it means to me to be reunited with my children again, hmm?.
Victoria: Dad,I want to say something.
Victor: What's that?
Victoria: I want to apologize for all those things I said when you went on your trip. They were cruel and hurtful, and they weren't fair. I never doubted -- and I hope you really believe this -- but i always knew that you had my best interests at heart.
Victor: You can't imagine what it means to me to... hear you say those things.
Victoria: I wished a thousand times when I thought you were dead that I could take those things back. I always loved you. I hope you know that.
Victor: You know... we both said and did some hurtful things to another. Let's just now... promise ourselves that we won't make the same mistakes again, okay?
John: You know, the more i think about what victor did, the angrier I get. Now, this man could not have been unaware that the entire world believed he was dead. The accident was news on every major television and radio broadcast. Headlines in practically every newspaper in the country. He would have had to live on another planet to not have seen it. And even if he did not know from the beginning, he admitted that he knew later. Why on earth didn't he come forward? Look what he put his children through, not to mention nikki, the mother of those children, or my daughter, ashley.
Jill: I know. Everybody suffered -- his family, his friends.
[ Sighs ]
John: But why? Why did he allow this to go on? Why did he probate his will? What kind of perverse pleasure did he get from that? And he had to know that the abbotts had gotten the company back. He had to know that. And surely he knew that jack was running his company. Jill, that in itself would have brought that man storming back to genoa city. Unless it was deliberate. Oh, yes -- a ploy to give jack everything he ever wanted... and then return from the grave and take it all back.
Jill: No. I can't believe that victor, as much as he hates jack, would -- would go that far for revenge.
John: Why? The whole thing was rather bizarre, wasn't it? Not only bizarre, but self-serving. A man that could play this kind of charade on the people he loved most in the world? My god. What kind of a man is this? - Oh. - What's going on?
Brad: Victor's going to be blown away when he finds out the changes jack's made. I mean, abbott's been on a power trip trying to undo everything victor did. And now here comes the man himself, back from the grave, ready to turn things around and toss jack out on his rear. Oh, how sweet it is.
Lauren: The law of retribution.
Brad: Yep. Jack's finally gonna get his.
Lauren: Which brings up another question.
Brad: What?
Lauren: You left newman enterprises because of jack, and you and victor were very close. What do you think he's going to do about it?
Brad: I really have no idea, lauren.
Lauren: More importantly... what are you gonna do about it?
Nick: Daddy, I've got a question.
Victor: What is it?
Nick: What happens now? Everyone thinks you're dead, only you're not dead.
Victor: Well, that's a very good question, my boy. We're just gonna have to make sure that people learn the truth.
Victoria: How are you gonna tell everyone?
Victor: While hope was talking to you and nicholas, I met with some people, and i wanted them to realize that -- that I'm alive.
Victoria: That must have popped a few eyeballs.
Douglas: Yes, I think that's a fair statement.
[ Chuckles ]
Victoria: You were there?
Douglas: Yes. One of the most intriguing days ever, I should think, at the private dining room.
Victor: Yes.
Victoria: Private dining room? That strange invitation that mother got -- is that what that was all about?
Victor: Yeah, except your mother chose not to be there.
Douglas: Well, she came for a bit, but she left before your father arrived.
Nick: So, mom doesn't know?
Victor: No, my boy, she doesn't -- not yet.
Victoria: Well, when are you going to tell her? How are you going to tell her?
Victor: I don't have the answer to that question yet.
Hodgekins: Well, that was certainly quite a speech, young lady. I'm surprised you didn't bring out the flag, start singing "the star-spangled banner."
Paul: Oh, listen here, you miserable --
Hodgekins: No, you listen, williams, and you, too, ms. Romalotti. Eight months ago, the sale of that building was the last thing on my mind. Then, with your guidance, those old renegades decided to stage a rent strike -- directly challenge me. Well, I was backed into a corner. I had no choice but to sell.
Paul: Oh, the hell you didn't have a choice. You could have followed that court order and fixed up that building and made it a safe place to live in again.
Christine: I don't care why you sold the building or who's right and who's wrong at this point. All I'm asking you to do is give the seniors a few more months or at least a few weeks to relocate their lives. Can't you talk to the buyers -- persuade them to delay close of escrow before these seniors face eviction?
Hodgekins: I understand your predicament, mrs. Romalotti, but it's too late. It's a done deal. There's nothing more I can do. Now, if you'll excuse me, I do have other appointments, and you know the way out.

Blade: I can imagine how shaken you must have been to see victor walk through that door.
Ashley: I've never experienced anything like it in my life. You know, at first, I thought it was a bad dream or someone was playing a joke, but there he was. He was standing right there. He was alive.
[ Sighs ] We were all stunned, of course.
Blade: Victor didn't explain where he'd been, why he had been away so long?
Ashley: Nope. He kept things pretty much a mystery. We all had a lot of questions, of course, but none of them were answered in today's meeting.
Brad: You're asking me if victor's return is going to change things.
Lauren: Just know that my desire to have you at fenmore still stands. You have a fabulous future here. Your cosmetics background is invaluable. You're a natural marketeer. You have a wonderful business savvy with fine entrepreneurial instincts, not to mention your good looks and sex appeal, which are a big plus in my business.
Brad: Well, that's a hell of a recommendation if I ever heard one.
Lauren: I know what you had at newman enterprises was pretty damn good. But I think what you and I could accomplish here is very exciting. So I want you to think long and hard before you make this decision.
Brad: I will, lauren. But right now, to tell you the truth, I don't know what's going to happen, and I'm still trying to process the fact that victor's returned. Until I've talked to him, I can't make any decisions.
Lauren: All I ask is that you talk to me again before you commit one way or another. Fair enough?
Brad: Yeah. Fair enough.
Hope: Victor, I feel that I'm intruding a bit on your reunion with your children.
Victor: But you're not.
Hope: Oh, please. This should be your time together alone. You have a lot to talk about. I'll be in my bedroom.
Victor: Okay.
[ Cane tapping ]
[ Door closes ]
Victor: What are you looking at?
Victoria: It's still just such a miracle -- I mean, you being here alive. I don't think I'll ever get over that feeling.
Nick: I know I won'T. I missed you so much, daddy.
Victor: And I, my boy -- I missed both of you more than i can tell you.
Victoria: What did you do on hope's farm?
Victor: I worked there.
Victoria: On the farm? Doing what?
Victor: Well, I helped her with the animals. I helped her take care of the place. She lost a farmhand that was there before. Um, for reasons I will explain later, I chased him away, so... she needed someone else to help her.
Victoria: So, that's why you stayed -- because hope needed you?
Victor: Yes. That's, at first, the reason i stayed.
Victoria: And then?
Victor: Well, then... I just became very attracted to that style of life, you know? Farm life is so different. It's so simple and so beautiful and so -- there's a purpose to everything you do. I just really became attracted to that style of life. And then I guess... after all the stressful months I'd been through here before i left, I needed some time to regroup. Anyway, that's the reason I went away. But let's not talk about that. I haven't seen any of you for months. So, what's happening with you?
Victoria: I don't know. Everything's fine.
Victor: Yeah? Well, you're not at northwestern, so I assume you're going to university here?
Victoria: Yeah. I-I decided not to go to northwestern.
Victor: Well, mom wasn't very happy about that -- that you decided to go to university here and stay home.
Douglas: Nicholas, come with me. Why don't we sit down over here? You must be feeling wonderful now, having your father back, yes?
Victoria: I get the feeling your trip has really done a lot for you.
Victor: Why do you say that?
Victoria: You seem different. More calm, mellow. It seems like you changed a lot.
Victor: I have.
Victoria: I mean, even after you realized that we all thought you were dead, you still didn't pick up a phone and call. You waited I don't know how long.
Victor: What are you really asking?
Victoria: Why, dad? How much of this has to do with hope?
[ Telephone ringing ]
Douglas: Excuse me. Let me get that. I'll get it.
[ Ringing continues ] Hello? Yes? Yes? Good. Good. Thank you for letting me know.
[ Telephone hangs up ]
Victor: Uh, listen, that's an important call I was waiting for. I have to go somewhere for a little while. Will you stay here and I'll be back very soon?
Victoria: Yeah, of course.
[ Chuckles ]
Victor: Bye, my boy. Okay? I'll be back in a little while. Unexpected situation?
"The young and the restless"
will continue.
Olivia: There you go.
[ Chuckles ]
Nathan: Come here. Sit down. You got to be tired.
Olivia: Yeah.
Nathan: So, tell me...
[Sighs] How did it go in new york?
Olivia: Well, not as well as I'd hoped.
Nathan: What, your mom's no better?
Olivia: No. She's slipping deeper and deeper into depression.
Nathan: Uh, what did the doctor say?
Olivia: That's another problem. She's not keeping her appointments. She doesn't think he can help, and, obviously, he can't if she won't see him.
Nathan: It doesn't sound like she's making much of an effort.
Olivia: She's not. She just sits there all day long, nathan. It makes it worse.
Nathan: Honey, look, I know how much this is getting to you, but...I think you're doing the best you can. I mean, your dad's there with her. She's got a doctor that you know and respect, you know? This may not be the best time to bring this up, but remember me asking you to observe your mother when she was alone, see if you noticed any difference?
Olivia: Yeah. I did. She's not faking, nathan. I watched her all the time, and there was no change. This depression is very real.
Nathan: Honey [Sighs] I know it's hard to say goodbye, but as much as it hurts you, I think you did the right thing. Olivia, what is it? I got a feeling there's something else I want to tell me.
Victor: The wise businessman doesn't just move ahead during economically troubled times. The wise businessman waits until there's an economic upturn. But I didn't ask you to discuss the merits of your opinion. I asked you here to tell you that I need people around me who work for me, not against me, people who understand the words "loyalty" and "commitment," the meaning of which I'm sure you do not understand!
Jack: Come on, victor. You're making too much of this.
Victor: Am I really? This is mutiny, my friend! You're trying to take over my company! You were going to use the time that I was spending away with ashley to usurp me, to take over my position! Well, it ain't gonna happen! Never gonna happen! I've always known you were a devious man, jack abbott. I've always known it. But this time, you went too far! Let me tell you something. The reason you're here is because I tolerated you because of your father and your sister -- for no other reason! The day you took me on, you made a mistake! No one takes me on! You understand that?! I want to take your things now and get out! I don't want to ever see you again! You devious man. I want you to get your things, and I want you to get out!
[ Groaning softly ]
Jack: Victor? Victor?
Victor: [ Breathing heavily ] Ohh. Ohh. Ohh. Help me. Help me.
[ Breathing heavily ] Help me. Help me. Help me. Help. Help. Help. Help. Help me.
[ Groaning softly ]
[ Elevator bell dings ]
[ Ringing ]
Victor: Yes?
I was instructed to call this extension when I saw jack abbott. He just walked in.
Victor: Thank you. It's the 6:10
Ashley: I can't believe he didn't know we all thought he was dead. I mean, why didn't he call? News of his death was all over the place. It was in the papers. It was on tv. It was on the radio. What possessed him to let us all go on thinking the worst? He must have known how this would affect his family and friends.
Blade: If it was deliberate, it was cruel.
Ashley: I can't wait to hear his explanation on this.
Blade: Well, I don't think anything he could possibly say will justify the way he handled it.
Ashley: I know. [ Sighs ]
Blade: Victor, uh... meant a great deal to you, didn't he?
Ashley: Yes, blade, he did. A man I loved deeply... was married to. Even though we divorced, we were still very close.
Blade: Well, at the risk of seeming insecure, I was just wondering about us.
Ashley: What about us?
Blade: Our plans for marriage. Victor's coming back from the dead... what impact is that going to have on our future together?
[ Knock on door ]
Christine: Hi.
Margaret: Oh, hey! What's the good word?
Miles: Uh-oh. From the looks of their faces, I'm afraid it's something we don't want to hear.
Christine: Hodgekins wouldn't even consider giving us more time.
Paul: Said it was out of his hands.
Christine: I tried to appeal to his sense of decency.
Paul: Something which the guy totally lacks.
Christine: I did what i could. I really tried.
Margaret: We know you did, honey. Now, don't beat up on yourself. You took up to the limit.
Christine: I see you're packing.
Margaret: Oh, yeah. Well, miles and I decided we'd just get a head start.
Miles: Since it seemed like he will be moving.
Christine: I'm sorry. I am really sorry.
Miles: Oh, now, look, you just take it easy, christine. You did the best you could. And don't you worry about mags and me. We'll be fine.
Margaret: And so will all the others. I mean, come on. We've lived too long to roll over and play dead now.
Paul: Well, come on. We're not giving up. We're going to continue to make phone calls, check the newspaper ads and the rental agencies.
Christine: At the moment, at least for the rest of the day, I just want to forget about it.
Margaret: Sure.
Christine: Margaret, is this a picture of you?
Margaret: Oh! [ Laughs ] In my better days. Oh, and look, look, look. There's -- there's a picture of miles.
Miles: Couple of pretty good lookers, don't you think?
Paul: [ Chuckles ]
Christine: I should say so. And this building. Is this...
Miles: You're right, christine. That's the building we're living in now.
Margaret: [ Chuckles ]
Christine: This is rainbow gardens?
Miles: Boy. Wasn't it something in those days?
Jack: [ Sighs ] "Bizarre meeting this afternoon." What the hell is that all about?
Nathan: Come on, honey. I know you. I can always tell when you got something on your mind, so what is it?
Olivia: Yeah, I do. I do have something to tell you.
Nathan: I know.
Olivia: But promise me you'll try and understand?
Nathan: Understand what?
Olivia: It's mama, nathan. I brought her home with me.
Nathan: You did what?
Olivia: She's at her apartment.
Nathan: [ Sighs ]
Olivia: Hey, sweetheart, look, I know how you feel about this, but try -- just try -- to understand my position. What could I do? She's my mother, nathan. She's ill. She's terribly depressed.
Nathan: What about us, sweetheart?
Olivia: I feel that she's getting worse.
Nathan: What about the baby? You have precious little time for the family as it is. Your mother's here. Now you're going to have even less. You're gonna be taking care of all her needs.
Olivia: Look, honey, this family -- this is the most important thing in my life, this family -- you, nate, me. We'll manage, honey. Somehow, I'll make it work.
Nathan: [ Sighs ] How long do you see this thing going on, olivia?
Olivia: I don't know.
Nathan: Oh, come on, olivia. Give me a ballpark, something.
Olivia: Nathan, I can't put a timetable on this. I just want you to understand how important this is to me and -- and not be upset.
Ashley: Look... I won't deny the feelings I once had for victor. I expect there's a part of me that will always love him. Victor newman is not a man that you can easily forget. But that was in the past.
Blade: You're sure?
Ashley: You just can't fathom what it was like... how it felt. [ Sighs ] It was the most incredible experience... seeing a man that... I once loved so deeply... a man that... I was married to... shared my life with... a man who... I thought was killed in a tragic auto accident... the man I thought was gone forever, just... alive... suddenly reappearing before my eyes. It was truly a miracle.
Blade: I suppose it's a fantasy we all play with someone we've lost... hoping someday they'll walk back through the door, back into our lives... tell us it was a mistake. Ashley, you just lived that fantasy.
Ashley: Now that fantasy's a reality. Victor's back. He's really alive.
Blade: Come here.
Ashley: [ Sighs ]
Jack: Nik, it's jack. Hi. I've got a dumb question. Did you maybe get an invitation to a meeting at the private dining room? Yeah, me too. I couldn't make it. I was called out of town, but -- I don't know -- for some reason, I can't seem to get it out of my head. Well, I was hoping maybe you could clear it up, tell me what went on. Oh, you left? Well, I guess it'll have to remain a mystery. Listen, while I got you on the phone, how about the two of us get together here some evening soon -- you know, test the waters, see what we have left to salvage? I've just been thinking a lot about you lately. Oh, great. How 'bout tomorrow night? I'm delighted you're delighted. Sure. That's great. Bye. What the hell? Oh, dear god in heaven.
