Episode #1.6409 ~ Sharon worries about Grace’s influence on Nick; and Michael causes trouble for Victor and Nikki.

Victor: What's going on?

Nikki: That's what I came to ask you.

Victor: I don't understand.

Nikki: I have this odd feeling that things concerning me have been happening that i know nothing about.

Victor: Who have you been talking to?

Nikki: I had a visitor today. You won't believe what diane said to me. And now, victor, I need to know, what have you been hiding from me? What in the world is going on?

[ Door opens ]

Diane: Michael. Thanks for coming by so quickly.

Michael: Please tell me you didn't have another run-in with victor.

Diane: No. Better -- nikki.

Michael: Oh. She came over and read you the riot act?

Diane: Oh, hardly. I went looking for her.

Michael: Why would you do that?

Diane: To drop my little bomb on her.

Michael: Oh, don't tell me.

Diane: That's right. She finally knows the truth about her supposed marriage to my husband. Ohh. You should have seen the look on her face. Victor obviously hadn't said a word to her, giving me the honor. And what an honor it was.

Michael: I wish you would have come to me first.

Diane: Why?

Michael: As much as you got off telling her that you were still the real mrs. Newman, i would have advised against it.

Diane: Oh, come on, michael. Let me have a little bit of fun.

Michael: I want you -- I want you to have a lot of fun, but when victor finds out about this, he -- he's really going to be on the warpath.

Diane: So?

Michael: So, he's going to be breathing down our neck big time, which means I've got to get moving. Got to make sure we have enough proof to build an airtight case.

Diane: I thought everything was in order. Is there some sort of problem?

Michael: No, no, just some loose ends we need to tie up.

Diane: Loose ends?! What kind of loose ends? Michael, this is my future we're talking about.

Nick: Hello? Is anybody here?

[ Keys jangle, clatter ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Birds chirping ]

Cassie: Hi, nick!

Nick: Well, there you are.

Sharon: Honey, I didn't expect you to be home this early.

Nick: I figured I'd surprise you. Hey, squirt. Did you go swimming?

Cassie: Yeah. My friend theresa invited me to a pool party.

Nick: A pool party? Hey, did you show them that cannonball that I taught you?

Cassie: Yeah. I made the biggest splash of all.

Nick: That is my girl. Alright.

Sharon: Sweetheart, why don't you go and get out of your suit and dry off?

Cassie: Okay. Can we barbecue again tonight, nick?

Nick: Barbecue? Um, I don't know. We'd better check and see what the boss has in store for us. So, where's noah -- with my mother?

Sharon: No. Actually, miguel offered to watch him while I picked up cassie. So, to what do I owe the pleasure of this very unexpected and very pleasant appearance by my long-lost husband?

Nick: Well, I let grace go home early so she could celebrate her little promotion, and I figured I'd sneak out, too.

Sharon: She must be thrilled.

Nick: Well, she deserves it. One thing I know about that lady -- she's a real go-getter.

Sharon: She most certainly is.

Kay: Esther, you are not making any sense. Now, come on. This fog you're in -- does it -- does it have anything to do with jill?

Esther: No. It has nothing to do with jill.

Kay: Well, then, what's wrong? Are you ill?

Esther: I'm fine, honestly, mrs. C.

Kay: Well, you're acting very strange today. Well, you always act strange, but today you're unusually bizarre.

[ Clattering ] Did you hear that?

Esther: I didn't hear anything.

Kay: Have you gone deaf, also? Something is going on in the attic.

[ Clattering continues ]

[ Rustling ]

Jill: [ Breathing heavily ] Damn it! Damn it!

[ Sighs ] God. Ugh! They've got to be somewhere in one of these boxes.

[ Sighs ]

[ Thinking ] You wanted me to have it all, didn't you, philip -- the house, grounds, stocks and bonds? I just need proof. I just need something from you, my darling, to prove that witch katherine stole everything from me.

Victor: I can't believe that diane jenkins had the audacity to tell you that she's still my wife.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Well, don't worry about it. If she insists on living in this make-believe world, so be it. Victor, are you listening to me?

Victor: I hear you.

Nikki: Is something wrong? You're not worried about this ridiculous accusation, are you? You're scaring me. Say something.

Victor: What do you want me to say?

Nikki: Well, that it isn't true -- that I'm your wife, not diane. Victor? My god, it is true. She is your wife still.

Victor: No. But she thinks she is, and her lawyer thinks she is. So don't you worry about it, alright?

Nikki: My god. I-if there is some question about the validity of our marriage, I am gonna worry.

Victor: Sweetheart, come here. Come here.

[ Smooches ] Now, you listen carefully. You're my wife. I love you. You're the woman I married in the ceremony in your hospital. You're my wife. No one and nothin is gonna change that.

Michael: Relax, diane.

Diane: Oh, relax? I go over to nikki's, shoot off my mouth, tell her I'm the one who's still married to victor.

Michael: And, legally, you are. I-I just have to do some... snooping around, get a few more details about, uh, victor and nikki's wedding.

Diane: Wasn't much of a wedding, from what I was told.

Michael: Ah, but there was an actual ceremony.

Diane: In her hospital room. They weren't even sure she'd survive long enough to say, "I do."

Michael: You stay here. I'll be right back.

Diane: Where you going?

Michael: There's someone i have to see.

Diane: Michael... I hope you're not too mad at me.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] How can I be mad at you? I mean, going over to nikki's and blasting her -- it wasn't the smartest idea, but I can't really blame you for it.

Diane: Thanks.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Victor: Because, my darling, I thought it was nothing but an annoyance -- an irritating little matter that I could deal with without your finding out.

Nikki: Well, what if she won't cooperate? What if she continues to claim that she's your wife?

Victor: Then I'll go after her attorney. That punk started everything anyway.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Victor: I detest that little bastard. I talked to christine williams about him. She knows something about him, and she wouldn't tell me what it is. I'm gonna find out. And I promise you one thing -- I'm going to destroy that punk before he has time to do any damage to you, my children, or me.

Nikki: [ Crying ]

[ Gasps ]

Kay: What in the hell is going on up there?

Esther: I don't know.

Kay: Well, it sounds like someone's in the attic.

Esther: Maybe some boxes fell over.

Kay: Boxes don't just fall over, esther. Now, you stay right here, and I'll be back.

Esther: No, mrs. Chancellor. Don'T.

Kay: Why not? Something is going on in my attic, and I intend to find out what. Thank you.

[ Papers rustling ]

Jill: Oh, god! There has to be something up here! There has to be something!

[ Sighs ] Philip, help me.

[ Box slams ] "Philip chancellor, personal"? Yes! Yes!

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Christine: Can you make a few copies?

Yes, ma'am.

Christine: Thanks. Victor. Uh, come into my office, please.

Victor: Thank you. Thank you for seeing me on such short notice. Um, I need to talk to you about michael baldwin.

Christine: What about him?

Victor: What you have to know is that I made my ex-wife an extremely generous settlement offer which she has turned down because mr. Baldwin convinced her that she could get a lot more. Not only that -- he finally convinced her that she's still married to me.

Christine: Still married?

Victor: Mm. He found some loophole... in the legal contract. Now, it is obvious to me that he doesn't give a damn about my ex-wife. He's in it for his own fame and fortune.

Christine: Well, actually, victor, michael is just doing his job. He's looking out for his client. Life takes softness

Michael: Ah. Thank you for seeing me, reverend.

What can I do for you, mr. Baldwin?

Michael: Uh, I have a few questions concerning a marriage you performed at memorial hospital some months ago -- nikki and victor newman. Do you remember the ceremony?

Quite well.

Michael: At the time, nikki was considered terminal. Death seemed imminent, did it not?

Her condition was very grave.

Michael: Mm. Did you regard the marriage as real or more of a symbolic gesture?

It was real, mr. Baldwin, no doubt about it.

Michael: Ah. Marriage license and everything?

That's right.

Michael: I wonder if you could check your records, give me the exact date of the ceremony.

Right now?

Michael: Yeah, if you don't mind.

April 6, 1998.

Michael: Thank you. Oh, by the way, were you aware of the fact that, at the time of the wedding, victor had just been granted a divorce hours earlier?

No, I wasn'T. How could he have obtained a marriage license?

Michael: That's a very good question, reverend. Well, thank you for your help.

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

[ Lock disengages ]

Sharon: So, what exactly is this promotion of grace's? I mean, will she still be reporting to you, or has she moved to a different division?

Nick: Well, no. We'll still be working together. I mean, you can't break up a winning team. Look, I don't want to bore you with all these details. I'm gonna be tackling some serious projects soon, and it's gonna be a challenge, but, fortunately for me, grace is gonna be by my side the whole time.

Cassie: Were you talking about grace? Sharon told me she got a promotion. I think that's so neat. I know she works real hard.

Nick: You see? It pays off. If you want something bad enough and you're willing to work for it, chances are you're gonna get it.

Sharon: Sweetheart, how would you like to go up to the main house and see if noah's awake?

Cassie: Okay. Then can we barbecue?

Sharon: Barbecue?

Nick: Well, she...

Sharon: Alright.

Cassie: Yeah! I'll be right back!

Nick: I'm sure you will.

[ Birds chirping ]

[ Door closes ] You're thinking about grace, aren't you, how happy you are for her?

Sharon: Grace?

Nick: Well, you should be. She's done well. You know, when we first started working together, I wasn't sure that we were a good match, but after spending so much time with her, she's really made an impression on me, especially lately. This is an athlete, twenty reps deep,

Christine: Victor, I know you don't want to hear this, but it sounds to me as if michael's doing what any good attorney should do for his client. He's trying to defend your former wife's rights in a situation in which she believes she's been victimized.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Her talking about victimization is ludicrous, considering the amount of the settlement that i offered her. She's the one that's going for the jugular here, all because of that slimeball lawyer of hers.

Christine: Victor, I'm not defending him. I am just pointing out that he's doing what he's paid to do, and, judging from your reaction, he's doing a good job.

Victor: Well, now, you have your opinion, and I have mine. I suggest we drop that subject, and that's not why I'm here.

Christine: Then why are you here?

Victor: It seems michael baldwin has decided to come after me. So I'm gonna go after him. I want to know everything there is to know about that man.

Christine: What would that accomplish?

Victor: I want to know what his weaknesses are. I want to find out where to strike first. And I think you're the one who can tell me.

Christine: There was a -- a situation between michael and me.

Victor: What kind of situation?

Christine: Sexual harassment.

Victor: Involving you?

Christine: Yes, involving me.

Victor: Really?

Sharon: The way you're talking, nick, it sounds like grace has made a real impact.

Nick: Are you kidding? That lady is going places. She is one to watch.

Sharon: I'll certainly be watching.

Jill: Come on.

[ Gasps ]

[ Groans, grunts ]

[ Breathing heavily ] I knew it. I knew it. I knew it! "For jill foster. Personal and confidential." Oh, philip, I knew you would leave me something. Oh, dear god, after all these years...

Victor: So, baldwin likes women that he can exercise power over?

Christine: It was a number of years ago. I think there's a very real possibility that he's changed.

Victor: Why are you defending him? He must have put you in a very demeaning and very degrading position.

Christine: I am just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Victor: I think he's the same man he was then -- a power-hungry slimeball... except this time, he's met his match.

Christine: So, what are you gonna do?

Victor: I'm gonna defend my family. And I'm gonna teach that punk a lesson he'll never forget. When you go up against victor newman, you'd better be willing to pay a price. And he will pay. Mark my word. Thank you.

[ Knock on door ]

Michael: Thank you for seeing me, mr. Carson.

Mr. Carson: You were very insistent, mr. Baldwin. What's this all about?

Michael: Well, uh, I need some information regarding a marriage license issued to a mr. Victor newman.

Mr. Carson: Ah. You said you're an attorney?

Michael: Representing mrs. Diane newman. It appears that mr. Newman obtained a license to remarry his ex-wife, nikki newman, even though his divorce to my client had only been granted hours earlier.

[ Chuckles ] I'm sure I don't have to tell you that there's a mandatory waiting period in the state of wisconsin.

Mr. Carson: Apparently, you don't have all your facts straight, counselor.

Michael: Excuse me?

Mr. Carson: You're not aware of the injunction.

Michael: What injunction?

Mr. Carson: A hearing was held in judge jennings' court to waive the statute and issue an immediate marriage license. I wasn't going to violate a court order, was I?

Michael: Oh, no, of course not. Uh, and the name of the judge again?

Mr. Carson: Jennings.

Michael: Jennings. Jennings. Ah. Well, thank you, sir. You've been very helpful.

[ Door closes ]

Kay: Oh, my god! What's been going on?! Oh, the boxes! What -- what -- what have you been doing with all of the boxes?! Jill, for god's sake, what have you been doing in here?! I mean look at this place! It is an absolute disaster!

Jill: Katherine, katherine, i will clean it up when I am finished.

Kay: No, you will clean it up right now, my dear, because you are finished. Do you understand? These are philip's personal belongings. Now, how dare you come into my home and -- and -- and disturb -- disturb the peace of my deceased husband?!

Jill: Mementos. I just wanted a few mementos, katherine. You took everything else away from me. You've left me nothing!

Kay: You got exactly what you deserved, dear. It was nothing. Look at you. Look at you! How long have you been at this? I mean, you're filthy. This attic is an absolute mess. Oh, you have certainly been searching frantically for mementos. Or, uh, is it something else you're after?

Jill: [ Sighs ]

Kay: Hmm?

Jill: It's this, katherine. Think you could bear to part with this tie clip? It was a gift of mine to philip, something I could remember the dear man by!

Kay: Do you know what? You're still clinging to the past, jill. It is so unhealthy. Yes! Take it! It's yours! Now, you just search this damn attic to your heart's content, my dear, and you're only gonna make yourself far more miserable. And you're going to be steeping yourself in memories that are dead -- dead and buried!

Jill: Well, we know why philip's dead and buried. You killed him, didn't you?

Kay: Oh, shut up!

Jill: Oh, come on, katherine! You're telling me for the last 20 years, you haven't walked the halls of this mausoleum, steeped in the guilt of killing my husband?!

Kay: Your husband?! I had that stupid farce of a marriage of yours annulled in a court -- in a court of law!

Jill: Yes, you did. You took your money and your power, and you tried to destroy the love between philip and me, but you couldn't do it. And you know why?! 'Cause you can't break that bond 'cause he loved me, katherine! You lost him to me, and it was your own fault! Ahhh!

Nikki: Victor, what are you doing home?

Victor: We need to talk, my sweetheart.

[ Smooches ]

Nikki: I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I lashed out at you earlier. It's just in shock -- the thought that we're not legally married.

Victor: Sweetheart...

[ Sighs ] I don't want you to concern yourself with that. Okay? Which is why I have called wally.

Nikki: Our pilot?

Victor: Right. I want you to go away for a few days.

Nikki: Alone? Victor, I don't want to go anywhere without you.

Victor: Sweetheart, I know, and nor do I want to be without you, but I think, under the circumstances, it is best.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Victor: I can assure you of one thing -- diane jenkins and her lawyer, michael baldwin, are about to step up the attack. It's gonna be a bitter, bitter battle. I don't want you to be affected by this. The press will get involved. I don't want you to be in the middle of any of this.

Nikki: But I am your wife.

Victor: I know, sweetheart, and nothing these vultures say will change that. You and I are husband and wife, okay?

Nikki: Well, where am I gonna go?

Victor: I called your sister, casey, and she's very much looking forward to being with you for a while. In fact, I'm expecting her call.

[ Telephone ringing ] Yeah?

Casey: Victor? Hi! I just got your message.

Victor: My goodness, what a c-- we were just talking about you.

Casey: Listen, are you kidding? I would love to have my sister come and visit me!

Victor: I'll let her know, okay? And then I'll let you know when to expect her.

Casey: Will you tell her i can't wait to see her?

Victor: I will. Thank you, casey.

[ Phone hangs up ]

[ Sighs ] That was your sister, and she's very much looking forward to seeing you. I don't want you to leave. I don't want to be alone right now. But I think, under the circumstances, it is best that you're not here.

Nikki: I understand. I'll go.

Victor: Come here.

Nikki: No, I better go and, uh, start packing.

Victor: [ Sighs heavily ]

Michael: I appreciate your seeing me on such short notice, your honor.

Judge jennings: You said it was urgent.

Michael: Yes, yes. I'm trying to get some facts straight regarding a case you handled some months back involving victor newman.

Judge jennings: Go on.

Michael: Yes. You enforced an injunction allowing mr. Newman to remarry his ex-wife, uh, waiving the mandatory waiting period after his divorce.

Judge jennings: There were extenuating circumstances, mr. Baldwin.

Michael: Well, yeah, i realize that. Nikki newman was in the hospital, fighting for her life. I mean, everybody, even mr. Newman, didn't think she was gonna make it.

Judge jennings: Her condition was quite grim, if I remember correctly.

Michael: But she did make it. You are aware of that, your honor?

Judge jennings: Yes, I am. But I dealt with the situation as it appeared at the time. Furthermore, I am confident that the representations made were honest and forthright.

Michael: I have no doubt about that. If I may, I'd like to ask you a question.

Judge jennings: Go on.

Michael: How do you think these, uh, changed circumstances affect the validity of mr. And mrs. Newman's marriage?

Judge jennings: Mr. Baldwin, I'm certain you are asking these questions for a very specific reason. For me to offer an opinion on this matter would be out of line.

Michael: I understand, your honor. Thank you for your time. You wouldn't admit it, but you do question the validity of that marriage. Don't you, judge? These are real people, not actors,

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Nick, can I ask you something?

Nick: Well, sure, baby.

Sharon: This promotion of grace's -- was it your dad's idea?

Nick: Um...well, no, not entirely. Jack and I had a big hand in it, too.

Sharon: That's what i thought.

Nick: Sharon, is there something wrong? I mean, if you're worried that -- that I'm pushing your friend too hard, I'm not, okay? Grace is a talented, bright young woman. Nothing is gonna stop her.

Sharon: You're right.

Nick: Look, don't worry about grace, okay? I'm gonna take care of her. I've got very high hopes for her.

Sharon: At newman enterprises?

Nick: Well, of course at newman enterprises. Where else? Look, I don't want to talk about grace anymore, okay? There's only one woman on my mind. Do you know who that is?

Sharon: Show me.

Victor: You all packed?

Nikki: Yeah. Miguel's bringing down the rest of my things.

Victor: Car's waiting for you.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I'm gonna miss you terribly.

Victor: I'm gonna miss you, too. And you remember -- you and i are husband and wife. No one and nothing is ever gonna change that -- not ever.

Nikki: Okay. I-I better go. Goodbye. I love you.

Victor: Love you, too.

Victor: [ Sighs heavily ] Now... ...whatever it takes, diane jenkins...

[ Glass thuds ] We're gonna end this... permanently.

Jill: You've hit me for the last time, katherine.

Kay: Lies. Your head is filled with lies, jill. Philip didn't love you! He used you! He used you like a common whore!

Jill: You are pathetic!

Kay: Aah!

Jill: [ Gasps ] Aah! Aah! Aah! Aah! Aah! Ohh! Aaah! Your house is full of rats!

Kay: Takes one to know one!

[ Both grunting ]

Kay: Ohh!

[ Grunts ]

Kay: Aah!

[ Grunting ]
