Evangeline: That was -- I don't have the words.

John: Hmm.

Evangeline: The way it feels when I'm with you -- it should be enough, shouldn't it?

[Pager beeps]

Evangeline: You don't have to say a word. I can look at your face and know who it is.

Rex: Let me guess -- you just called Bo to tell him you changed your mind. You decided you will take Marcie’s old job at the cop shop.

Natalie: Wrong again, Rex. You're on a really great streak.

Rex: Oh, come on, Natty. Don't you want to wake up in the morning with a sense of purpose? Huh? Have something meaningful in your life to help take away the pain and misery that's been heaped on you the last few months?

Natalie: Give me a break, Rex. The only reason that you want me to take the job at the P.D. is so I can help you prove that Jen didn't kill Paul Cramer.

Rex: The only reason? Come on, you can't possibly believe that I am that selfish. I also want what's best for you, Natty. For you. After all, we're family.

Jen: "Gun -- Lord -- $10,000."

Nora: Do you have any idea how that could've gotten in your printer?

Jen: I've never seen this before.

Daniel: It looks like it got jammed under the ink cartridge.

Jen: Not by me. I did not write these words, Mr. Colson. I didn't bribe Rex and I didn't kill Paul. I don't know what to say to make you believe me.

Daniel: Jen, I want to believe you. I really do. But I have to follow the evidence. I got to take this printer and this piece of paper in --

Riley: The hell you are.

Viki: Starr? Where are you going?

Starr: To be with my dad. And don't try and stop me.

Todd: Bo, it's not enough putting out A.P.B.s or assigning a few units --

Bo: Give me that. It's more than a few.

Todd: You need every squad car you have out there searching for her. You need every available officer you have.

Bo: We have -- nobody is available, okay? We're stretched to the max right now, Todd. We're doing everything we can.

Todd: That is not good enough.

Bo: Look, we're canvassing that junkyard. We've got -- we're checking every truck that left that landfill.

Todd: All right, if it's manpower you need, I'm on it. I will do anything to help. I will pick through every piece of garbage.

Dorian: Oh, picking through garbage. That's the perfect job for you.

Todd: Well, isn't that how you found Vickers?

David: Hey. Are you going to let him get away with that? I thought we were in the middle of a truce here -- putting our heads together, combining forces. Teamwork and all that crap.

Dorian: Well, we wouldn't have to be a team if Blair hadn't gone out looking for him in the first place.

Todd: Dorian, is that really important to you right now? Rubbing it in my face is going to bring Blair back for you, is that it? Fine, whatever. We're running out of time, Bo. If we don't find her now -- we have to find her.

***********************************************

Rex: Okay, look; I would be lying if I said it wouldn't be handy to have a sister working at the police station.

Natalie: Handy? You practically begged me to take that job just so that I could be your little secret agent for you.

Rex: And you said no! Fine, I accept that. The more I think it over, it really isn't all about me.

Natalie: Oh, so you think that me working at L.P.D. Will give me some sort of purpose when I wake up in the morning?

Rex: Look, Natty, I was worried sick about you over this whole "Cristian isn't really Cristian" thing. Not that you can't cowboy up when you need to, but it was a little touch-and-go there for a while, let's face it.

Natalie: Yeah, thanks for reminding me.

Rex: Hey, I was just -- sit down, sit down, sit down. I just don't want you getting depressed again.

Natalie: Okay, so you think me working at L.P.D. Is going to turn me into Mary sunshine?

Rex: I think you need to be busy.

Natalie: What about the constant run-in with John McBain every single day? What's that going to do for my self-esteem? Especially when his gorgeous, gorgeous girlfriend comes to meet him at work for a nice, romantic evening, just the two of them?

Rex: I thought you said you were moving on with your life.

Natalie: And you told me to go for him! My God, Rex, don't you get it? I don't want him in my face all day.

Rex: What difference does it make? John's around, not around. Who cares? You need to prove to McBain and Evangeline and everybody else that you're not afraid of anything. You're moving on, hopping the train to a whole new life, not looking back. Sure, mistakes have been made. If you could do it all over again, I'm betting you wouldn't be so trusting. But instead of all this talk about being strong, why don't you put your money where your mouth is? Take the job and prove to everybody in Llanview -- most importantly, yourself -- that you meant it when you said you were starting a whole new life.

Natalie: You're right. I mean, whatever the reason is you said all that, you're absolutely right.

Rex: So you're going to take the job?

Natalie: I'm going to talk to Uncle Bo, I'm going to see if the position is still available. But let me get one thing clear here. If I get the job, no favors, Rex. Okay?

Rex: Not a problem.

John: It wasn't Natalie who paged me.

Evangeline: I didn't say it was.

John: No, but --

Evangeline: I didn't mention her name, John, nor did I assume she paged you. Actually, I thought it was the police station.

John: I'm sorry, my mistake.

Evangeline: It's all right. It's not like I haven't mentioned her name once or twice.

John: I got to get down to the station.

Evangeline: John -- I was thinking about all those fights we had when we thought Cristian had come back, how uncomfortable I was with your concern for Natalie, how I questioned your motives and accused you of being overprotective when you were just doing your job. You went with your gut, and I really respect that.

Cristian: So, you going to do what I asked? Are you going to keep quiet?

John: I'm going to keep your secret. Natalie won't find out from me that you're really Cristian Vega.

Evangeline: You never said, "I told you so," even when all your warnings turned out to be legitimate and your instincts were right on. And from now on, my instinct will be to trust you.

John: Don't say that.

Evangeline: Why? Did I say something wrong?

John: No. We need to talk. We need to talk about Cris.

Evangeline: Which Cris? The late Cristian Vega, or the man who impersonated him?

John: Actually, both.

Todd: If you're not going to do anything to speed this up, I'm going to go out there and find her myself.

Dorian: Oh, all by yourself? Ha-ha-ha.

Todd: Dorian, I'm more qualified than any Llanview cop -- more qualified.

Dorian: And what credentials make you so eminently qualified?

Todd: All right. These are the only credentials I need.

Bo: Todd, nobody doubts what you've been through or your concern for Blair. But you got to work with this department. You know, we're not your enemy. And when I know that you understand that, I am going to include you in everything.

Todd: I don't need your permission, Bo. I'm going to go out there, I'm going to find her. I'm going to bring her home.

Man: Eddie, my man, you are one lucky dude. Here you are, cruising, looking to score a fix, and what do you find instead? Sugar pie, honey. Oh, come on, sugar. You're going to come along with Eddie. He's going to show you a sweet time. Real sweet.

Jen: Riley, don't make any more trouble. Just give your dad the printer.

Riley: No way. No, I learned everything about the law from you, and you cannot take that without a warrant.

Jen: I don't care if the cops have it. Don't you get that? I'm innocent.

Riley: Jen, don't say another word until you have a lawyer.

Jen: I don't know how the paper got jammed in there, but -- you can check for fingerprints if you want to, but you're not going to find mine.

Riley: Jen, would you stop? You're not talking to my dad. You're talking to the D.A.’s office.

Daniel: Riley! Get your arm off me. I want to speak to you outside privately.

Jen: I don't understand. I don't know anything about this letter or draft or whatever you want to call it.

Nora: Okay, you know what? I think Riley's right. I think it's best that you just be careful what you say in front of us without a lawyer present.

Riley: I am not going to let Jen get railroaded by this. You're going to go down this road, you're going to do it by the book.

Daniel: Riley, this isn't easy for me.

Riley: Oh, yeah, you look really torn up about it.

Daniel: Riley, you're my son and I love you. Why would I want the woman you're in love with be in any trouble? Jen is the last person I want to go after. But I got to follow the evidence, Riley. I have to do my job. I hope to God you believe me.

John: You know I went to see Cris when he was in jail.

Evangeline: Where he belongs.

John: Well, that's just the thing. We don't even know who this guy is.

Evangeline: Whoever he is, he knew he wasn't Cristian when he came back. He was dangerous, he killed Tico, he tried to do the same thing to Antonio. That's who he is. That's why he's in jail. Natalie's safer, everybody's safer. Why -- why would you even question it?

John: Yeah, you're right. I got to get going.

Evangeline: John? Is there something you're not telling me?

John: Both of our professions don't always allow for full disclosure. But, trust me, it's nothing -- nothing that important. I'll see you later.

Viki: Okay, you're going to give me five minutes.

Starr: I don't have five minutes.

Viki: Oh, yes, you do have five minutes, and then you can go wherever you want to go.

Starr: No, I'm not waiting!

Viki: Starr!

Starr: Let me go! I want to go now!

Viki: No, I will not let you go! You are going to listen to me. Five minutes. Starr, I have been so incredibly proud of you because you have worked very, very hard to keep this family together during a very difficult time. You have been patient and you have been thoughtful, qualities which -- well, if you can keep a secret -- I really wish your dad had a little more of.

Starr: Don't say that.

Viki: Well, Sweetheart, you know what I mean. He loves you and Jack so much, but he goes tearing out of here and he never thinks about the consequences.

Starr: He's doing the best that he can.

Viki: I know he is.

Starr: And he loves us, he really does.

Viki: Yes, I know that. But here's the problem. There's a very, very dangerous woman who is still out there. Margaret Cochran has not been caught yet. And she doesn't have your father captive anymore, and I expect that's made her pretty angry. So what if she decides to take you instead? Huh? Where does that leave your dad? He doesn't have your mother, he doesn't have you, and your little brother is all alone.

Jack: Are Mommy and Daddy home yet?

Viki: No, Sweetheart. No, they're not actually home yet, but Starr’s here. Your big sister is here for you.

Starr: Actually, I was just about to leave.

Jack: No. Don't go. Because what if you don't come back either?

Starr: Don't worry, Jack. I won't leave you.

Todd: I'm not going home.

Bo: No?

Todd: No. But I'll be cool. I promise, I'll do anything you want. How can I help?

Bo: You can do exactly what I've been telling you to do. You go home, you take care of your kids, and I will call you the second that I learn anything.

Riley: I don't know what to believe anymore.

Daniel: Riley, I understand that, and I'm sorry. I need you to realize how difficult this is for me, too. I want my son to be in a loving relationship and I know you have that with Jen, and it would break my heart to see it come to an end, Riley. But I can't ignore the evidence. I can't ignore the fact that the woman you're in love with might have committed a terrible crime.

Jen: Why won't anybody listen to me?

Nora: Jen --

Jen: Anybody could've used that printer.

Nora: I know.

Jen: People were going in and out of the Love Center all fall. Somebody could've snuck in, typed the letter, and printed it out.

Nora: Okay, listen. even though Mr. Colson and I are the D.A.’s office, you do know how much we care about you, right?

Jen: Oh, yeah. You feel my pain, right?

Nora: I do care about you, and you know that. Do you want to tell me anything? Is there anything at all --

Jen: There's nothing to tell. There's nothing to tell because nothing happened. I didn't shoot Paul. My father lost his life from a bullet. Do you really think that I could do that to somebody else?

Daniel: Nora, we should get going. Look, Jen, I'm sorry things turned out this way. We'll be back with a warrant.

Bo: Right, I got it. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Natalie: Hey, Uncle Bo.

Bo: Hey, Nat.

Natalie: I know you're busy.

Bo: Yeah, I'm just leaving.

Natalie: Okay, well, I just -- I came by. I wanted to let you know I've thought about it and I'm going to take the personal assistant job -- I mean, if it's still open.

Bo: It is wide open and it's all yours --

Natalie: Ooh.

Bo: And I can't tell you how happy this makes me, but I got to go. I just got a lead on Blair.

Natalie: You did? Great!

Bo: Yeah, yeah. Listen, I want you to go see Joanne and she'll give you all the paperwork you have to fill out, okay? Right down the hall, second door on the right. And tell her that she has to issue you a set of keys, too. You're going to need them.

Natalie: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got it.

Bo: All right, and then I'll bring you up to speed on everything else when I see you.

Natalie: Okay, good luck on the lead.

Bo: We just got a lead on somebody that saw someone that matches Blair’s description downtown.

Dorian: Oh!

Bo: I'm going to check it out. I want you two to go home, all right? I'll call you.

Dorian: Do you know what that means? They're going to find Blair, alive and well.

David: Oh, I sure hope so. This whole thing will be over tonight.

Dorian: Oh, thank God. Now we won't have to listen to Todd playing the martyr anymore.

David: You know what? Todd's gone through hell.

Dorian: What do you mean? We've gone through hell. Not knowing, waiting -- that's been a kind of hell.

David: Well, now, I know I'm probably going to regret this, but I think I sympathize with the guy. I mean, if anything like that ever happened to you --

Dorian: Nothing like that would happen to me, because if you ever brought a woman like Margaret into our lives, we'd be over, we'd be finished. That designer luggage I got you? Out, into the driveway.

David: Dorian, don’t. How can you say that? Not the luggage. I would never bring someone like that into our lives. But if you think about it, Blair brought Todd into our lives.

Dorian: True. She fell in love with him. She bore his children.

David: Well, it's a good point.

Dorian: Well, this is it. When Blair is home safe and sound, the gloves are going to come off. I'm going to make sure that Todd never terrorizes our family again, and that also goes for his saintly sister, Viki.

Viki: Todd. Thank God you're back.

Todd: Shh.

Viki: Where the hell have you been?

Todd: Blair's still alive. I have proof.

Viki: What kind of proof?

Todd: Please, keep your voice down. I don't want to wake the kids.

Viki: How do you know she's alive?

Todd: She got out of the trunk before it was smashed.

Viki: Would you look at me, please?

How do you know?

Todd: Because her body wasn't in the car. She's out there somewhere, but Bo’s dragging his feet with police procedure. So I'm going to go.

Viki: Where?

Todd: To find her.

Viki: Oh, don't -- come on, the police are on the case. No, you can't keep tearing out of here.

Todd: I'm going to find her, Viki. She needs me.

Viki: Well, I'm sorry, you're not going anywhere now. I'm not going to let you.

Eddie: Here we are, sug. It ain't much. Hell, it ain't nothing. Oh -- but that's something. We're talking heavy-duty bling here. And bling and bling and bling. I'd say that's blingo. "Blingo." Sometimes I kill myself.

Eddie: You're one real babe. I can't remember the last time I spent the night with a looker like you. Maybe there's more than one kind of quick score I can get here -- if you catch Eddie’s drift, hmm?

Eddie: Maybe you shouldn't be doing this, Eddie. Could be she'll wake up. Maybe not. Maybe she'll never wake up. Maybe she's dead. Sweat. She ain't dead. She's sick, though. She could be dying. That's the last thing I need is for cops to find me with a dead body. Be back in lockup for sure. I'll bring her back to where I found her. I'll dump her and I'll blow the whole scene. No, that way she'd die for sure. Hell, I ain't no doctor! I could take her in for help, but then it'd be my ass on the line. I got to think. My head's all messed up. Her ring could clear it up for me. This will buy me just what I need to get thinking straight again.

Todd: Viki, I've got to find her.

Viki: Well, let Bo find her. That's his job.

Todd: You can't count on Bo.

Viki: But you have to, Todd! You are a father! You're not a superhero! Your children need you. You need to be here for them.

Todd: The kids will be fine.

Viki: Oh, you think so? Starr was trying to sneak out of here before to be with you. That's not because she's so, you know, missing you so much. It's because she is desperately confused and unhappy about what has happened. What if Margaret Cochran's out there? What then? Then you're missing your wife and your daughter?

Todd: Don’t.

Viki: Come on, I'm not trying to upset you. I am trying to make you understand your place right now is here with your children! You need to be with them and comfort them and hold them. That's what Blair would want, okay? To take care of them. She would like to know that her husband and her children are home safe, waiting for her to come back.

Todd: I can't wait. It'd be like giving up on her.

Viki: No, it's not giving up. She never gave up on you when you were missing, but she made damn sure she was home every single night with those kids, holding them and praying with them for their daddy to come home. Now it's your turn. You must, must be here to take care of your children. And for God's sakes, you have to tell Starr there's a chance that her mother might be alive.

Jen: I have never seen that letter before in my life. Please tell me that you believe me. What are you doing?

Riley: I'm destroying the printer.

Jen: No, you can't do that. Riley --

Riley: Look, soon the cops will be back here with a warrant, then they'll put you away, and I'm not about to lose you now.

Jen: You can't -- if you destroy the evidence, it's only going to make things worse. You know that.

Riley: There's no proof that it was ever here.

Jen: Your dad and Nora saw it.

Riley: It's their word against ours.

Jen: And you really think that a jury is going to believe us over them? This is exactly what I didn't want to happen. This has been my biggest fear all along.

Riley: Fear? What are you talking about?

Jen: That being with me was going to change you, that you're going to turn into someone like Rex.

Rex: Got you working already, huh?

Natalie: Rex.

Rex: I brought you this good-luck-on-the-job present. It'll look great on your desk.

Natalie: Ahem. What are you doing here?

Rex: Just checking to make sure my sis is okay.

Natalie: No, I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm just trying to get this paperwork done before Joanne leaves.

Rex: So have they issued you your ..38 magnum, nightstick, and badge?

Natalie: Uh, I'm just a personal assistant/clerk/gofer. I think the best I get is a set of keys.

Rex: Oh, well. Look, I know this is a big step you're taking, and I thought you might need the moral support.

Natalie: Thank you. Yeah, and thank you again for your pep talk. I think you really helped me make the right decision.

Rex: Well, stick with me, kid.

Natalie: Okay, well, I'm going to go turn these in. Please try not to get arrested while I'm gone.

[Rex whistles]

Rex: "Paul Cramer." Gotcha.

[Knock on door]

Natalie: Hey. Working late?

John: Actually, I got paged. They brought in a suspect in a case, but it turned out to be a dead end.

Natalie: Oh.

John: What are you doing here?

Natalie: Work. Uncle Bo gave me the position -- Marcie’s old position -- and, anyway, I'm just here spending 15 minutes trying to fill out employment forms. It's crazy. You know, I'm kind of wondering if maybe this was a bad idea.

John: If you want the job, take it.

Natalie: You mean that?

John: Yeah. Work might, you know, help you take your mind off things.

Natalie: Yeah. I just -- I hope Evangeline doesn't take it the wrong way.

John: I don't think it'll be a problem. Welcome aboard.

Natalie: Thanks, John.

John: Uh, I'm supposed to leave this file for Bo, but the door is locked.

Natalie: Oh, you know what? I'll take it in there. Don't worry about it. I mean, you go home and relax. It's what I do -- help, right? Go.

John: You sure?

Natalie: Yeah, absolutely.

John: Thanks.

Natalie: Sure. Anytime.

John: Good night.

Natalie: Good night. Mm-hmm.

Natalie: Rex, you are so busted! What the hell do you think you're doing in here?

Daniel: You know, I was afraid this was going to happen. I zero in on the one person who could break my son's heart. You still don't believe Jen did it, even after everything we found, right?

Nora: Do you want my honest opinion?

Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, sure.

Nora: I think there's about as good a chance Jen killed Paul Cramer as I did or you did.

Riley: What are you talking about? How can you possibly compare me to Rex?

Jen: Look at you. You're about to destroy evidence, just like Rex did, just to try to protect me. What I'm trying to tell both of you is that I don't need protection. I didn't do anything.

Riley: I know you didn't, but the evidence keeps piling up, and I'm not just going to sit back and watch my dad try and lock you up.

Jen: It's not going to happen.

Riley: What do you mean?

Jen: I am going to protect you just like you were going to protect me.

Riley: How, by leaving?

Jen: Yes.

Eddie: Sorry for your trouble, sug. I'd like to help, but no way. Not the way I'm feeling. Nope. Got to look out for number one.

Viki: Todd, please!

Starr: Dad.

Todd: Hey.

Starr: I thought I heard your voice.

Todd: Got a little news for you.

Starr: What? What news? What is it?

Todd: Bo and his men searched the wreckage where they thought your mom --

Starr: "Thought"? What do you mean, "thought"?

Todd: Well, her body was not in that car.

Starr: Oh, my gosh, that means she's still alive!

Todd: There's a chance. They found some evidence that she'd been in the car within the last 12 hours, but --

Starr: Dad, Mom's alive!

Todd: Okay --

Starr: She's not dead! I knew she wasn’t.

Todd: Well, Bo has a team of men searching for her right now.

Starr: We have to go. We have to go help them right now.

Todd: No, no, no. No, we're going to let the police do their job. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to go upstairs and try to get some sleep.

Starr: Sleep? Are you kidding me?

Todd: No, I'm not kidding. I want you to be rested in case she comes home. Let's go. Up, bed.

Starr: Okay, okay. I love you. But, you know, I'm not going to fall asleep. I'm just going to be lying down.

Todd: It's okay, just get some rest. Just close your eyes. Think about that wedding we're going to plan, all right?

Starr: That's a good idea.

Todd: So, I did what you think is right. Now I'm going to do what I think is right.

Viki: Oh, Todd.

Dorian: Yes, thank you. Bye-bye.

David: So, any news?

Dorian: No, thanks. They followed up on that lead. It wasn't Blair.

David: Don't you worry. They're going to find her.

Dorian: And when they do, I can tell you this will have been the last time that Todd Manning ever puts her life in jeopardy again.

David: Oh, yeah? How you going to manage that?

Dorian: Oh -- well, I found a way to frame Viki, didn't I? Uh-huh. Wait till Llanview University finds out that its beloved President Davidson took Llanview University's money and put it in "The Banner" account.

David: Now, hold on a second. What does this have to do with Todd? You were talking about Todd.

Dorian: Hmm. Well, I don't know how I'm going to get back at him yet, but an opportunity is certainly going to present itself. And when it does, Todd’s dead meat.

Bo: Well, Daniel. Looks like something's on your mind.

Daniel: Look, I'm not here to fight with you, Bo.

Bo: Glad to hear it.

Daniel: Nora and I found a copy of the letter to Rex Balsom in a printer tonight. We need a warrant to retrieve it.

Bo: Great. Where?

Daniel: It's Jen’s. We need a warrant to search my son's apartment.

Natalie: What the hell are you doing, pulling a stunt like that?

Rex: Relax, okay?

Natalie: No, no. You know, I should've trusted my instincts and know that you could never give a damn about me when you pushed me to take that job.

Rex: No, don't -- that's not fair. I meant every word.

Natalie: Oh, yeah, right.

Rex: Like I said, I think it's extremely important for you to prove to everybody you can start a new life.

Natalie: Right. And don't blame you, I mean, if it just happens to benefit you in finding out who Paul Cramer’s killer is.

Rex: Just a lucky break, that's all.

Natalie: Oh, yeah? Well, your luck has just run out, brother, because I am not allowing you to take advantage of me anymore. So from now on, my connections with L.P.D. -- They are hereby forever officially off-limits.

Rex: I found what I'm looking for, thanks to you. You're my hero, sis.

[Rex whistles]

Evangeline: There you are.

John: Yeah, here I am.

Evangeline: Anything happen at the station?

John: Nothing important.

Starr: Come home, Mom. Come home. Dad?

Todd: Hey. I thought you were going to try to sleep.

Starr: I thought you were going to stay home. She did this right after you were kidnapped, and she wasn't thinking straight. All she had was that letter. Please, you have to believe that she was just angry. And then after that she found out that you were just kidnapped, then she never stopped giving up hope.

Todd: Why don't we hang it so it's the first thing she sees when she gets here?

Starr: All right.

>> On the next "One Life to Live" --

Nora: What is it?

Matthew: I just don't want Daniel to be my dad.

R.J.: Any little blond debutante that gets in the way is going to get smashed.

Michael: Happy birthday, bro.

Evangeline: I'm looking for John McBain. Is he around?

Natalie: Evangeline? Hi, it's Natalie.
