Niki: It worked! *********************************************** Seth: The car's right behind us. We got to pull over. Jessica: Where? There's only one lane. Seth: And there's no shoulders. We only have one choice. [Car accelerates] Jessica: Seth! Seth: Hold on, hold on! Jessica: Seth! Seth: Hold on! [Tires screech] [Alarm] *********************************************** Cristian: What up, my man? Chad: Hey. Cristian: Here you go. You're now officially driving this bus. Ben: I think some mother/daughter time is exactly what you both need. Niki: [As Viki] And now that you know how I truly feel about Natalie, I'm sure that's the way you'll feel about me. Ben: This problem is about our family, and we will handle it together -- you, me, and Natalie. Niki: You didn't tell her, did you? Ben: I wouldn't do that. Niki: Oh. Ben: But I think eventually you would have to. Niki: No, I can't do that! Good heavens! Can you imagine? Having to tell my own child to her face that I can't stand the sight of her? That would destroy her! Ben: I don't think so. Natalie's pretty tough. Remember, she survived Roxanne. Niki: Exactly! Exactly. She's already had to have one mother who just despised her. I can't even imagine what this would do to her. Ben: Natalie hated you when she got here, and now she's learning to love you. Niki: Yes, well, you have to wonder why, right? Ben: I think it's pretty simple. She spent some time with you. See, it is impossible to spend time with you and not fall in love with you. And Natalie has also learned what it's like to have a real mother. Niki: Yes, well, real mothers don't have to manufacture their feelings. I do! Ben: Don't be so hard on yourself. Look, I know you're doing your best to let her into your heart, and I have faith in you. You know what you two need; you need to spend some time together. Niki: Oh, you are asking an awful lot, Ben. Ben: You're not going to feel this way about Natalie forever. Ben: And whatever you do, don't turn away from me. *********************************************** Troy: I don't get it. You admit that you have feelings for me, so what are you afraid of, Nora? Nora: I just -- oh, God. I can't act on these feelings, that's all. Troy: No, that's not all. Nora, you're not the only person whose feelings are involved here. Nora: I understand that. Troy: So then please, help me to understand. What is it? Is it because I look exactly like Colin? Nora: Oh, at first that may have been it, but not now, no. When I look at you, I see Troy. You're nothing like your brother. Troy: Well, not according to Lindsay. Nora: Oh, who cares about Lindsay? Colin was becoming sadistic and cruel and totally obsessed with me. You -- you're a healer. You're kind, you're gentle, you're compassionate, you're caring, you're -- and I know that your feelings for me are genuine. Troy: I'm glad you know that, Nora, because my feelings for you are genuine. Look, to Colin, you -- I don't know -- he made you into his fantasy woman. He never even really knew who you were. Nora: No, he never really knew my name. He called me Scarlet. Troy: I know. Look, I've seen the real you, Nora. I've seen the side that you don't always show the rest of the world. Nora: And you're still here? Wow! Troy: I like the fact that you're so difficult. I'm sorry. Did I say difficult? I meant complex. Look, Nora, I don't need some type of fantasy woman. To me, you're more than enough. Nora: Thank you -- I think. Troy: So what's standing between us now? Is it Lindsay? Nora: Lindsay's in jail. Troy: You know what I mean. Does it bother you that I slept with Lindsay? Nora: Yes. But not for the reasons you think. Troy: You know that I never loved Lindsay. Nora: Yes, I know that, I know that. But what you did to Lindsay was very Colin-like. You were cold and calculating and cruel, and there was -- I couldn't find that man in there that I knew, the man that saved my son's life. Troy: I'm still that same man. Nora: I saw a lot of Colin in there very clearly. Troy: Nora, Colin wasn't ways bad. You didn't know him before Lindsay got ahold of him. Nora: I know he saved my life. I know he nursed me back to health. He was a good doctor. Troy: Yes, he was. And this isn't an excuse, but I wanted the truth for Colin and I wanted the truth for you, and I did what it took to get that truth. Nora: And you told a lot of lies in the process. Troy: We can get past this, Nora. Nora: That's what I’m saying -- I don't think I can. Troy: Look far as me sleeping with Lindsay’s concerned -- Nora: Oh, no -- Troy: You made it very clear that you were unavailable. Nora: This isn't about your sleeping with Lindsay. Troy: Ok. You see, the thing about the date is -- look, Dad, Jen is in charge of setting the date and she's got a lot going on right now. Max: Oh, yes, your mother. I heard. It must be rough. Cristian: This isn't going to work, Jen. *********************************************** Max: Al, I am not in favor of long engagements. Al: Yeah, I hear you, Dad, but with everything that Jen’s going through right now, I don't want to pressure her. It just doesn't seem right right now. Max: Her mother? I got news for you, Al -- Lindsay’s going to be in jail a long time. Al: Yeah, I know, but, well, you only get married once, right, and I just feel like Jen needs a little more time to get closer to me. Max: You two are living together. How much closer can she get? This got something to do with your condition? Al: Well, Dad, we only made love the one time at the quarry, and it was -- it was amazing. Max: For you. Al: And for her, for both of us. It was really special. Max: Well, that's all you need to know -- that and the fact she wants to be your wife. Al: I want to be everything she wants, everything she needs, you know? Max: You are. Al: Yeah, but I mean I want to be able to walk, and I'm going to be able to walk, but -- well, it may not happen soon enough to walk down the aisle, but, Dad, I do not plan on staying in this chair for the rest of my life. Natalie: Allison Perkins took that money, just like Seth told you. Max: Prove it. Or am I just supposed to accept this theory on Seth’s say-so? Natalie: Well, Allison just beat it out of town. Is that proof enough for you? *********************************************** Allison: It's me. Roxy: Did you get the big, fat check back? Did you stop those stupid kids? Allison: Oh, I stopped them, all right. Roxy: Oh, we've got to split, Ally girl, and I mean now. Allison: You stay right where you are. I'm coming. You hear me? I'll be there soon. And as soon as I get there, we're going to put the next part of the plan in motion. *********************************************** Seth: Somebody help! We're down here! Ok, middle of nowhere. Nobody's going to hear me. Jessica: Seth? Seth: Jess? Jess? Can you hear me? Jessica: My head. My head. Where are we? Seth: We were in the car, remember? We went over an embankment into the ravine. We're pretty far down below the road. You're going to be ok, ok? Jessica: Get -- get my phone, get my phone. Seth: Right, right, your phone. Of course. All right. Jessica: Seth? Seth? If I had it my way -- I raked him over the coals once too often. Troy: Well, maybe he'll change his mind. Nora: No, he's not going to change his mind. I still love him. Troy: I know you do. Plus you have Matthew to think about. Nora: It's not -- I don't have an affection for him or an affinity for him. I love him. And I -- I -- I have to let him move on. Troy: You also have to let yourself move on. Nora: Well, that's just the thing -- I don't think I can. Not yet, ok? These feelings I have for him, they're not going to just disappear overnight. Troy: So, what are you going to do? You going to wait for him to come back? Nora: He's not coming back. I hurt him. I didn't think you could hurt someone that you love so much, but I did. I hurt him. Troy: What exactly did you do to hurt him, Nora? Nora: I wasn't satisfied with our wonderful life together. I had to go after Lindsay and I let you come after me. Troy: I don't know if I gave you much choice. Nora: I knew how you felt about me, Troy. I lied to Sam. Yeah, it was by omission, but that's semantics. I should've told him. And maybe if I had told him how much the truth meant to me, maybe he would've understood and we'd still be together. Troy: So why didn't you tell him? Nora: Because maybe he wouldn't have understood and then he would've tried to stop me -- or you. Troy: Look, Nora, I'm sorry that Sam got hurt. Nora: Hmm. Troy: And it makes me very sad to see you hurt. Nora: Hmm. Troy: But I don't apologize for what I did. Nora: No, of course not, because the end always justifies the means. Troy: Wait a minute here, Nora -- I didn't set out to hurt anyone. Unfortunately, some things just can't be helped. But I would like for us to move forward. Nora: That would be even worse for Sam. People make mistakes. What are you going to do? You just going to pack it in and give up? That you went to Rae for help; you didn't turn your anger towards Natalie. That just shows how much you care. I just wish I knew how upset you've been. Niki: I was too ashamed to tell you. [Footsteps] Asa: Oh, Viki, Ben. Ben: Hey, Asa, we're kind of in the middle of something right now. Asa: I came by to see Al, but he wasn't at the Carriage House. Niki: Excuse me, Asa -- Asa: Look, as long as I have you both here, I’d like us to get together as a family, Jessie, too. I have some family things at the house she might want, or you, too. Ben: Sounds great. Asa: You'll tell Jessie and set things up? Ben: Yeah, as soon as I see her, I’ll tell her, but right now we're just kind of in the middle of something. Asa: Viki? You all right? Ben: She's fine. Let me walk you out. Thank you. Asa: Viki have a problem? Ben: No, she's fine, she's fine. I'll call you when I talk to Jess. Asa: Fine. Niki: [Normal voice] Yes! Ben: Wait; wait, we're in the middle of something important here. Niki: [As Viki] I need air. Ben: Well, just don't go, don't go. I never want you to be afraid to tell me what you feel. Niki: Oh, Ben, you don't know what you're saying. Ben: There's nothing you could say to me that would make me turn away from you. Niki: Oh, how can you not turn away from me when I just told you that my greatest fear is that I hate my own child? Ben: But you're dealing with it. Just let me help! Natalie turned your world upside down. It's only natural that you would have mixed feelings. Niki: Mixed? According to Rae, they're not mixed at all. I hate her! Natalie: Yeah, but maybe that can change. Here's $992 -- the exact amount that was missing when Seth made that deposit. Max: He sent you here to do his dirty work for him? Natalie: You've got Seth all wrong. He feels terrible about what happened. Max: He should. He's a thief. An unemployed thief. This is your money, isn't it? Natalie: He didn't steal the money, but he does feel responsible. Max: Hmm. Natalie: I mean, you trusted him with it. So that money should square things up. Max: Oh, and then what? Natalie: Can Seth have his job back now? Max: You got to be kidding. Chad, count that up for me, would you? I'll think about Seth’s job. Al: Well, Natalie, you seem awfully proud of yourself. Natalie: Things are looking up, Al. Looks like our little plan worked like a charm. Al: Your little plan. Remember that. Natalie: You know, I knew Seth and Jessica didn't belong together. I never would've doubted. Al: Whatever. Natalie: Don't forget -- no one can know about our little arrangement, ok? Al: Yeah, same goes for you, Natalie. Natalie: I just can't wait. Soon, the both of us are going to end up with the people we belong with. *********************************************** Jen: I'll just go find Professor Reynolds and I’ll get her to find us other partners. Cristian: That's not what I meant, Jen. You know, I keep trying to pretend that it doesn't bother me that you're marrying Al, but it does bother me. It bothers me a whole lot. Jen: Cristian, I'm sorry, but -- Cristian: I know what you're going to say. But I also know what it feels like when we touch, Jen. Jen: We shouldn't be doing this. Cristian: Yes, we should. All right, money's all there, I'm understaffed, so if he promises to be like a choirboy, I will give Seth his job back. Al: Oh, Dad, that's great. Natalie: I can't wait to tell him. Max: I don't know if he realizes how lucky he is, having you two watch his back like this. It was no accident that I walked back into st. Ann's exactly when you needed me the most. Something brought us together. And I believe that that's where we were meant to be. Natalie: Ok, it's kind of a cliche, but some things, they happen for a reason, even when you don't know why. Cristian: No offense, Natalie, but you're making it worse. Natalie: Sorry. Well, I just -- I believe that very soon, we're going to be with the people we belong with. Cristian: Yeah. You believe in that bull, huh? Natalie: Have to.
