Previously on “Guiding Light,”

Jonathan: Mel, I need your help.

Phillip: If I make it through this, I want to be with you.

Alan: I’m not the same man that you ran away from.

Jonathan: I know who you are.

Alan: I'm different now.

Priest: I pronounce you husbands and wives, you may kiss your bride.

Phillip: (Sighs)

Beth: Good day.

Alan: Well, look at you, son.

Phillip: Look at you!

Alan: Yeah, yeah, I came.

Beth: Are you supposed to be out of the hospital?

Alexandra: He makes his own rules, you know.

Alan: It worked for me so far.

Alexandra: Well, we have a lot to be celebrating today, don't we?

Phillip: Yes, we do.

Shayne: Where's Henry today?

Marina: He's with his sitter. I thought I told you. Anyway, he's fine.

Shayne: Okay.

Marina: Oh, my gosh. You should have seen him this morning. It was so cute. He was trying to eat the spoon and kept hitting himself in the face. I have a picture. See?

Reva: What are you looking at? See?

Josh: Thank you.

Reva: Our son standing over there lighting up like that? Been a long time since I've seen him do that.

Josh: That's what having kids does to you, right?

Jonathan: Hi.

Lizzie: Hey. Where's Sarah?

Jonathan: With a friend.

Lizzie: A friend?

Jonathan: She's in good hands. Billy invited me. Since I was in town I thought I should check it out.

Lizzie: It's great. It's great. Nana and Buzz definitely surprised us.

Jonathan: I stopped by the hospital before to see Alan.

Lizzie: Really? How'd that go?

Jonathan: It was interesting.

Lizzie: We didn't know that he was going to get out this early. He's changed. No, really, he really, really has.

Jonathan: Okay.

Lizzie: How long are you staying?

Jonathan: We'll see.

Lizzie: Can I see Sarah tonight?

Jonathan: Yeah. You'll see her.

Billy: Everybody, ho! Just come here for sec, yeah. Look, we just want to thank you all for coming. I know this happened pretty quickly.

Bill: Pretty quickly? It took you over 30 years to get it right.

Everybody: (Laughter)

Billy: Yeah, well I finally got it right.

Bill: You did, you did.

Billy: And we're glad you all are here to share it with us and with our good friends here.

Buzz: And I want to thank Billy and Vanessa for sharing the spotlight here, because I'm the luckiest man on earth. (Cheers)

Billy: Oh, Buzz, you call that a kiss. Buzz, Buzz, Buzz, this is a kiss. ( cheers and applause)

Buzz: You jerk. You want to have a contest? (Everyone shouting at once)

Josh: We want to see some serious kissing here.

Billy: Okay.

Buzz: Okay, bring it on.

Billy: Let's go. (Cheers)

Jonathan: (Laughing) Who is a pretty girl? Hey, you get the papers?

Mel: I did. They're right here. You sure you want to do this? I mean, there's no turning back.

Jonathan: Yeah, I want to do what's best for my girl.

Alexandra: Well, you two certainly gave us a nice surprise.

Lillian: Believe me, it was a surprise for me. I was standing right where you are, and he came down and he got down on one knee and proposed to me.

Alexandra: Well, we all know Buzz drives a very hard bargain.

Lillian: Oh dear, here we go.

Buzz: You're not going to say no to dancing, are you?

Alexandra: No way.

Buzz: Come on. Come on.

Lillian: And I just have to hug you. And then I have to tell you how really proud I am of what a brave thing you did for him.

Alan: You know, I really only did what any parent would do for their child.

Lillian: It was still very brave.

Frank: Hey, Matt, get you a beer, buddy?

Matt: No thanks, I'm just here to pick up Maureen. You seen her?

Frank: Uh...

Maureen: Right here, Daddy.

Matt: Hey, sweetie, ready to go?

Maureen: Not yet. We're dancing, and they haven't cut the cake or thrown the bouquet. Look, Aunt Bridget and Nola are here.

Matt: Why don't I come back in a couple of hours, then? You can stay, it's okay.

Vanessa: Matt, why won't you stay? Everybody's here. Stay.

Maureen: Come on, Mom, let's go start the chicken dance.

Vanessa: Yeah.

Matt: I guess I'll have that beer now.

Frank: Yeah.

Bill: Cute couple, huh?

Josh: Never seen my brother so happy.

Bill: A lot of ups and downs. Weddings, funerals, weddings. Looks like the good is outnumbering the bad. You know, everything's coming together. Everyone's life... it's looking good.

Josh: Yeah.

Phillip: Hey, you two need to get back. If you want to get in on this hokey pokey.

Daisy: Hokey pokey? Are my grandparents still kissing?

Phillip: No, actually they have moved on to necking.

Daisy: Okay, well then I'm staying. I'm glad you're okay. You look amazing. I never would have even known you were sick.

Phillip: Very lucky. I owe a lot to my dad, he really stepped up.

James: I wanted to step up, but he wouldn't let me.

Phillip: James, I know you did. And it doesn't matter now.

James: It does to me. I don't understand why you let Granddad help you and not me.

Phillip: Because you' my son. And you've got your whole life ahead of you.

Josh: Dad, I wanted to help you.

Lizzie: Hi, Sarah. Hey, I didn't know you were coming.

Sarah: Why are you dancing so silly? (Laughter)

Lizzie: We were dancing silly.

Jonathan: That's right, sweetheart. Well, I figured we are going to be living in Springfield, we should show up at big events in town.

Lizzie: Living, you guys are staying?

Jonathan: She needs her mom. I trust that we're all going to keep her safe?

Mel: Yeah.

Bill: We will.

Jonathan: I had Mel draw up custody papers so we can get this thing started.

Lizzie: You want to share her.

Jonathan: She's your daughter, too.

Lizzie: Would you hold these, we are learning how to do the electric slide. Would you like to join us?

Jonathan: Yeah.

Lizzie: Come here, I’ll show you how to do it.

Maureen: Dad, are you going to sit here and drink beers all day? There are a lot of pretty girls here.

Matt: Somehow I don't think your mother's wedding is the place for me to be looking for pretty girls, do you?

Maureen: Well then, you should dance with me.

Bridget: Matty, come on. Come dance with the Reardon girls.

Matt: How are my girls?

Nola: Well, we're good. How about you? How are you?

Matt: I'll live.

Nola: Well, of course you will.

Maureen: Come on, family dance.

Nola: Yeah, come on, come on, come on.

Matt: How you can say no to a family dance.

Nola: Somebody grab him.

Bridget: Come on, baby.

Blake: This is such a glorious day, isn't it? I'm so happy for your dad.

Frank: Yeah. Me too. He really deserves a good woman. He's a good man.

Blake: So do you.

Frank: Oh, Blake. I don't know, you know. I think I pretty much failed in that department.

Blake: Oh, no, don't say that. You never give up, Frank, never, ever, ever, ever. You got to just get out there and start dating. You will be snapped up in a heartbeat.

Frank: Funny you should mention that. I actually invited someone for the wedding, but she said she had a prior commitment. So...

Blake: Well, that's not a "no." That's an "ask me again."

Frank: You think?

Blake: I'm a girl. I know.

Josh: You did it. You married the girl of your dreams. You didn't have to kidnap her or nothing.

Billy: I'm telling you, love wins out.

Josh: Yes, it does. Love and goodness, which we have a whole lot of going on right now. And you're happy. Shayne's going in the right direction, I think.

Billy: Hey, you've got a new grandbaby.

Josh: Yes, I do, yeah. Marah is doing great. And Reva is doing better. And Jonathan and Sarah have decided to stay in town for a while. Bill and Lizzie couldn't be happier.

Billy: I think everybody's right where they're supposed to be.

Josh: Yeah, except me.

Billy: You seem to be doing pretty good.

Josh: I am. It's not like there's anything bad going on with me. I just, you know, my thing is taking care of other people and nobody needs to be taken care of right now. So I don't have a whole lot going on. I've been thinking about leaving town for a bit. Maybe getting out there in the real world and finding something I can call my own, you know.

Billy: I'll miss you.

Josh: I'll miss you. But I'll be back. You big galump.

Vanessa: Oh my goodness, I can't believe you made it. You came all this way to be with us.

Cecilia: I was not going to miss it for a moment. This is Justin.

Vanessa: Very nice to meet you, Justin.

Justin: Molto bella.

Alan: Why aren't you up there dancing that ridiculous dance with everyone?

James: Why aren’t you?

Alan: Well, I just had surgery. I have to pace myself.

James: It was really cool what you did for Dad

Alan: Well, I'll tell you something. I only did it because that's what parents are supposed to do. Parents, James, are supposed to save their children.

Beth: What are you doing out here all by yourself?

Phillip: Just thinking about how lucky I am. A few days ago, I was in the hospital. I didn't think I had a chance to see tomorrow. And here we are.

Beth: I've been wanting to talk to you about that. Just before your surgery you said something about loving me and being with me.

Phillip: Was that you? I thought that was Rick.

Beth: (Laughs) I appreciated it. I needed to hear it. And you knew it. But I want you to know that I don't hold you to that.

Phillip: I do love you. I always have. And I always will.

Beth: I love you too.

Alan: So when are you going to be leaving?

Rafe: Today, actually.

Alan: Today, huh?

Rafe: I will be here a little while longer. I go home, I finish packing and then I get on a bus.

Alan: Well, I want you to know that you're a braver man than I. I was drafted when I was your age, but I... I was afraid to go. I'm just glad that a Spaulding is going to represent our country and serve our country.

Rafe: Come here, all right. Grandfather. You thirsty?

Alan: No.

Rafe: You sure?

Alan: You go ahead.

Rafe: I'm going to get something to drink, alright?

Alan: Hello, Reva.

Reva: Alan. So I understand Rick assisted in your surgery.

Alan: Yes, he did. As a matter of fact, he really came through for me this time.

Reva: I'm glad. It's nice to know that we all have something to back up against. To our grandbaby, Sarah.

Alan: Oh, yes.

Reva: And the ones yet to come.

Billy: Hey.

Alan: Hey, Billy.

Billy: Hey, everybody, everybody! Can I have your attention for a second? I want to make you all aware of something that happened that was very important in our little old town. Phillip Spaulding was very sick. I don't think everybody knew that. And it didn't look good. And then Alan stepped up, and he saved the day. And that surprised a lot of us. Just goes to show that not everybody is all good or bad. And that anybody can be a hero. And Alan, you are definitely a hero. He gave us a miracle. He made us believe in miracles again. I say to Alan Spaulding, hero. Alan! (Applause)

Olivia: Hi.

Josh: Well, look at that. That's a nice thing to see.

Olivia: Yeah, every man's fantasy.

Josh: No, no, no, no. That's not what I'm talking about at all. It's just nice to see both of you happy.

Natalia: We are.

Josh: Good. Because it seems to be a day for it, you know. Everybody's doing well.

Olivia: Yeah, yeah, it's a good day.

Josh: Thank you for being my friend. I think that's not an easy thing for exes to be, but I think we are friends.

Olivia: We definitely are. Why are you being so serious?

Josh: Because I should tell you that I'm going to leave town for a while.

Olivia: When?

Josh: Soon. So take care of my friend, will you please? Thank you.

Cyrus: I was looking for you.

Mel: Hey. It's so beautiful here, huh?

Cyrus: Yeah, it is. It was really great what you did for that guy and his kid, Lizzie’s kid.

Mel: Just a lawyer. Doing what I had to do.

Cyrus: Right. Well, now I'm going to do what I have to do.

Josh: Hey, son.

Shayne: Hey, Dad. Hold on one second, okay. I'm checking on Henry. Okay. All good.

Josh: Great.

Shayne: How are you?

Josh: Well, I'm glad to see you happy. I'm going to bug you one more time about the job at the high school, the coaching job. Rumor has it you're not interested.

Shayne: Rumor's right, I'm still not.

Josh: Okay.

Shayne: I'm just... I'm having fun with Henry right now, Dad.

Josh: Well that's a good thing.

Shayne: Yeah.

Josh: You're a good father, son.

Shayne: Thank you. I had a good example.

Josh: I have to tell you something. I think I'm going to leave town for a while, you know, head back down to Venezuela, maybe see if I can get that office up and running.

Shayne: I should be the one to go. I'm the low man on the totem pole. Let me go down there and you stay here.

Josh: No, no, Shayne, you have a new son to take care of. That's the most important thing. Besides, I need to do something like this, you know, for me.

Shayne: Okay. I know that feeling.

Josh: I know you do. Let's go back to the party and drink.

Shayne: Good deal.

Jonathan: Dance, baby.

Lizzie: Yeah!

Jonathan: He's silly, isn't he? You think I should take her over to meet your family?

Lizzie: Really?

Jonathan: Well, if we're going to be living here might as well get it all over one with in one day.

Lizzie: Yeah.

Jonathan: Come here, piglet, come here, cutie. Time for us to go meet the big, bad wolf. Sarah and I are going to be staying in town. She needs to have a steady life and be around her family. But, this isn't easy for me, so don't make me regret it. Say hi, sweetheart.

Sarah: Hi.

Phillip: Hi, sweetheart. I'm your granddad, Phillip.

Lizzie: That's Mommy's daddy.

Beth: And I'm your Mommy's mommy. That makes me...

Alexandra: (Laughs)

Phillip: Beth. (Laughter)

Beth: Beth, yes.

Alexandra: You are such a big girl now. My goodness.

Alan: Sarah, I'm sorry it wasn't safe for you here before. But I promise you you're safe now. Here's your family, sweetheart.

Daisy: They're actually doing the hokey pokey.

James: You want to put your right foot in.

Daisy: No, not at all, no.

James: Let's get out of here.

Daisy: Really?

James: I don't think anyone will notice.

Alan: Hey.

Phillip: Sarah's a beautiful child.

Alan: Yeah, she is. She is just like her beautiful mother, Elizabeth.

Phillip: I'm so glad Lizzie is going to get a second chance to be her mother, she deserves it. Thanks for my second chance. I don't know if I deserve it.

Alan: Don't ever say that, son. I only did what any parent who loves their child would do. You would do the same thing. I want you to take this second chance though. I don't want you to overanalyze it, complicate it like you always do. I want you to live it, to live it, to its fullest.

Phillip: I promise you, Dad, I will.

Shayne: Hey.

Marina: Hey, it's Marina.

Shayne: I just talked to Kelly, he's good. He ate chicken, squash, peas and carrots.

Marina: Yes, thank you, Kelly.

Shayne: Kelly.

Marina: Alright.

Shayne: Hi again, Kelly.

Marina: We'll talk later.

Shayne: B-bye again, Kelly. I just called. This parenting thing, I had no idea. It's all-consuming, isn't it?

Marina: Yeah.

Shayne: Yeah, it is. I'm at a wedding and people are having a great time and I have no desire to drink or pick a fight.

Marina: Wow.

Shayne: Yeah. Who am I? I don't recognize myself right now. What's happening?

Marina: I don't know. Maybe it's Henry, you know. He makes people pretty happy.

Shayne: Yeah, he does, doesn't he?

Marina: I miss him.

Shayne: I do, too. Do you want to take a break from all this, while everyone's upstairs. You want to go check on him, just say hi?

Marina: Yeah?

Shayne: I mean, do you?

Marina: We could always come back in time for cake.

Shayne: Yes, we could, completely.

Marina: Okay.

Shayne: Yeah?

Marina: Yeah.

Shayne: It's not rude, is it?

Marina: No.

Shayne: Okay. I'll drive.

Marina: Okay. Let's go.

Shayne: Alright, let's go, cool.

Oh, for a day with you I feel an ocean...

Phillip: Pretty.

Beth: Yes. I thought I might use them in a still life.

Phillip: That's great. You're painting again.

Beth: I'm not. I always planned to get back to it, you know. I think about it.

Phillip: Don't think about it. Just do it. When you know something's right, you have to just do it.

Beth: I guess that's true. Well, we should get back. They're going to be cutting the cake soon.

Phillip: We should...

Beth: Phillip, are you all right?

Phillip: I think I'm great, or at least I will be.

Beth: I don’t... I don't follow.

Phillip: Don't follow, just be here with me. Be here with me for the rest of my life and let me be with you. Beth, I'm in love with you. I'm in love with you and I know I've given you a million reasons not to believe that and at times I have made our lives incredibly complicated, but I don't want that anymore. I want this. I want to be here with you. I want to hold your hand. I want to go on these walks together. I want to go have Thanksgiving dinner at Bill and Lizzie’s with you. Marry me. Marry me and I will spend the rest of my life making you happy, I promise, I will.

Beth: Yes, I will let you spend the rest of your life making me happy.

Phillip: Say it again.

Beth: Yes, I will marry you. I'll marry you. (Laughter)

Phillip: I love you. I feel like a kid.

Beth: Speaking of which, should we go back and tell the kids?

Phillip: Yeah. I want to talk to my dad first, okay?

Alan: There you are, Buzz, congratulations.

Buzz: Right back at you. You must be like king of the world.

Alan: I always feel like king of the world.

Buzz: (Laughs) But it was a big hurdle, you know, you stepped up. You saved your son's life.

Alan: You would’ve done the same thing and you know it.

Buzz: You don't know about that, no one knows about that until they face it.

Alan: Couldn't have done it without your support and help. You know that.

Buzz: Nah, I think you always have the courage inside you, you just didn't know it. Didn't know you loved him that much. Come on. Let's go dance, dance with the bride.

Alan: I want you to know something, Buzz. You and I, we got quite a history together. I want you to know I truly value our friendship, what we have gone through through the years. You being happy for me right now means more than you'll ever know.

Buzz: Well, you know I was thinking about it the other day. And I think I've actually made more mistakes than you have. But you know, we move forward. Our family loves us.

Alan: Yeah, that's important.

Buzz: We're happy men. We're lucky men.

Alan: Uh-huh.

Buzz: Come on.

Alan: No, I think I'm going to stay out here just for a few more minutes and take in this beautiful scene.

Buzz: Oh come on, you've made love to all of them. Dance with a few of them.

Alan: Well, I'll be in in a minute.

Buzz: Yeah?

Alan: Yeah.

Buzz: Hey... you did it.

Alan: I did it.

Josh: Hey, you mind if I cut in here?

Reva: Please, please.

Dylan: I'm wearing her out anyway.

Reva: In your dreams.

Josh: Hey, hey, hey, come back here, hold that for me. Thank you. Go away.

Reva: Kids.

Josh: Hey, let me take these off.

Reva: Oh so, you can look in my eyes.

Josh: So I can dance, yeah.

Reva: Thank you, you can actually see me.

Josh: Yes. Some good news there with Jonathan and Sarah moving back to town.

Reva: Yeah, it is, it's really good. I never thought it would happen, especially not with Alan still here.

Josh: Well, you got Jonathan here and Shayne to keep you safe and protected. That makes me feel good like you're going to be okay.

Reva: I think I'm going to be okay. I'm trying.

Josh: I know you are.

Reva: No, really, I'm going to be okay.

Josh: I know. In fact, I think everybody's going to be okay. Which is why I'm thinking this will be a good time for me to take a break.

Reva: A vacation.

Josh: No, not exactly. I think I'm going to move back down to Venezuela for a while.

Reva: Oh. Venezuela.

Josh: Yeah. Seems like the right time.

Reva: If that's what you need, go for it.

Josh: Assume the position? (Laughter)

James: You know, we could have just gone out to eat. It is a date. I mean, I would have paid and everything.

Daisy: Wow, no. Are you kidding? Miss all this delicious free wedding food. You're crazy.

James: The wedding was pretty cool.

Daisy: Your grandfather was like the star. Who would have thought.

James: He's a pretty cool guy, believe it or not.

Daisy: It's hard for me to believe. But you know, I'll try.

James: When he's back up on his feet, we should all go play Frisbee one of these mornings. I hope my dad gets it, what my granddad is doing for him.

Daisy: Phillip seemed pretty happy to be alive.

James: Well, my dad owes him big time.

Daisy: Maybe not. Maybe Alan just finally did what he was supposed to do.

Josh: Okay, everybody, we need your attention. It's time for your favorite part of the show. The best man speeches. So it will take about 30 minutes so settle in, relax. Take your shoes off. Now Frank's going to speak next, but I don't want to steal his thunder here but I do want to say congratulations to Buzz and Lillian and say this, it's about time the most romantic couple in Springfield tied the knot. Congratulations.

Everybody: Here, here!

Josh: Yes, sir. Now about my brother, my crazy brother and his gorgeous bride Vanessa. Vanessa, look at me now, Vanessa, thank you for seeing beyond all those things that make Billy Billy and loving him anyway and seeing the man inside, the man I have known my entire life, who I he looked up to my entire life, who I love with all my heart, my brave and now happy brother. I think he's happier today than I have ever seen him and that's because of you. So thank you, Vanessa. You bring out the best. You bring out the best in him. And I kind of think you bring out the best in each other. Congratulations to Billy and Vanessa.

Billy: Thank you.

Josh: Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Frank.

Frank: Vanessa and Billy, congratulations. I would like to congratulate you. This is very exciting. And Dad, what I can say, you caught me by complete surprise yet again. I didn't think that was possible but did you it. But I love you, Dad, I love you. And Lillian, thank you so much for coming into his life. He's never been happier, and Dad, Coop's watching. And I know he's happy for you, too. So anyway, to Buzz and Lillian.

Everybody: To Buzz and Lillian. Whooo!

Phillip: There you are, you are missing all the fun. Listen, before we go back I just want to tell you something. You were right. I mean, I think I already knew it, but a few minutes ago I walked down to the beach and I saw Beth standing there picking up shells and all of a sudden it was just so clear to me what you meant. I want her. You know, and I mean I want to be with her every day. I don't want to waste a second, not with her or with my kids or with you or Alex or anybody. God, it's time to just live in the moment, and not worry about fixing everything and making everything perfect. I spent my whole life doing that. I just want to appreciate everything for what it is. It took me a long time to learn that, didn't it? Took you saving me. I'll never be able to repay you, Dad. You've given me more than my life. You've given me happiness. Okay. All right. I know you hate the sentimental stuff. Let's go back to the party. Dad? Dad? Dad? Dad?

Coming up on "Guiding Light".
