Previously on "Guiding Light"...
Beth: He knows that you love him.
Phillip: No, he doesn’t. If I go to prison, he'll feel like I'm willing to sacrifice for him the way I would for Lizzie.
Bill: The minute Doris walks through those doors, I am going to marry you right here, in front of all these people.
Remy: Hey, Dad, I'm at the bank. I may have found a way to save the house.
Natasha: Good news, dear?
Cyrus: I got a job. If anyone has those diamonds, I'll hear about it here.
Cyrus: Ah, son of a...
Marina: (Clears throat)
Cyrus: Oh, sorry about that.
Marina: Yeah, not as sorry as I am. You are the worst busboy in the history of restaurants.
Cyrus: Yeah, you're right. I'm better at charming women than busing tables.
Marina: No, you're not. Here.
Cyrus: Thanks.
Marina: When you're done with the shirt, you can clean the floor.
Cyrus: Um, I have to take this.
Marina: You have got to be kidding me.
Cyrus: Sorry, boss, won't happen again.
Marina: No, it won’t. Wow.
Natasha: You look...
Cyrus: Yeah.
Natasha: ...Winded.
Cyrus: Yeah, I'm at work.
Natasha: Busy day at burger land?
Cyrus: You could say that.
Natasha: Well, did you find any diamonds for me today?
Cyrus: Yeah, several. I found one in the oatmeal, one in the pancake batter and a couple of customers spat them out of their chili.
Natasha: This not a joke. You told me you could deliver the diamonds. If you don't, it could be very, very dangerous for you.
Cyrus: I know.
Natasha: Tell you what, I'll keep the file I have on you hidden as long as you bring me what I want. Otherwise you'll be the next thing they fish out of the river.
Remy: What do I do? How am I supposed to do this?
Christina: Remy. What are you doing here?
Remy: What are you doing here?
Christina: Reva O’Neill was just indicted for first-degree murder.
Remy: I know.
Christina: I was the one who identified her voice at the crime scene. I feel terrible, like... like I'm the one who's sending her away.
Remy: Hey, don't go there, okay? Mallet had mountains of evidence.
Christina: Still, I just wish it hadn't been her. I like Reva.
Remy: You didn't have to tell them, you know.
Christina: Of course I did. There's what's right and what's wrong. You can't just let how you wish things had happened affect what you know is right, even if it's hard to do.
Remy: But what if...
Christina: There is no what if. What's right is right. And honesty is right.
Remy: Yeah.
Christina: So what are you doing here?
Remy: Frank... Frank put me on a case.
Christina: Murder case?
Remy: Part of it. Not sure. Actually, Christina, I...
Christina: I know, I get it. It's confidential. It's no problem. I won't ask anything.
Remy: Good.
Christina: It's about Edmund, right?
Remy: I can’t... (laughs)
Christina: Are you looking for clues? I can help.
Remy: Christina, I'm not going to talk to you about it, okay? I don't want to drag you into any of this.
Christina: Sounds mysterious.
Remy: Leave it alone.
Beth: What's going on?
First man: We have orders to take Bill Lewis in.
Lizzie: Why, what for?
Second man: Securities fraud, ma'am.
Lizzie: That doesn't make any sense. None of our business holdings include any financial properties.
First man: This isn't a legitimate fund. Mr. Lewis set up a scam to steal a lot of money from people, innocent people.
Bill: Okay, okay, okay. You obviously have the wrong person. I did not do this, okay. Let me....
Phillip: Come on.
Bill: Whoa, whoa...
Vanessa: Oh!
Billy: Hang on!
Phillip: Hey!
Lizzie: Don't hurt him.
Phillip: It's all right, honey.
Vanessa: Stop this. This is ridiculous.
Phillip: You don't need to do that.
Lizzie: Bill, what's going on, I don't understand.
Bill: I don't know, we will figure it out.
Phillip: James, are you going to stop this or am I?
James: You're a bastard.
Phillip: Hey, wait, I told you. Bill Lewis had nothing to do with that fund. The man that you want is my son, James.
Beth: Phillip, don't do this.
Phillip: It has to be done.
Second man: Mr. Lewis, you're coming with us.
Bill: Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Phillip: Tell them, James. It's going to come out anyway.
James: Fine, all right, I did it. I started the fund. I used Bill's name, all right. I wanted to get out of being a Spaulding, so I found a way out. It just happened to be illegal.
Beth: Oh, my God. What have you done?
Marina: Hey, guys. Enjoy.
Frank: Hey, baby girl.
Marina: Hey, I thought you were going over to Bill and Lizzie’s party.
Frank: Yeah, well, Josh and I were headed over there, but we decided not to. Decided to stop at Farley's and have some beers, so...
Marina: Good choice.
Frank: Yeah. Question: How's Cyrus doing?
Marina: Did you see the girl on the front porch?
Frank: Hard to miss.
Marina: He's supposed to be working. (Cell phone rings)
Frank: Oh, man, it never ends. Cooper, here. What? Are you serious? Well... well, can you get anybody else? Well, I've had a couple beers here and... just call me and let me know, all right?
Marina: What's that?
Frank: There was trouble at the Spaulding engagement party.
Marina: Shocking.
Frank: Well, no, really, Bill Lewis got arrested.
Marina: For what?
Frank: They didn't say.
Marina: Geez, well, I'm glad Mallet's at home with the baby. The last thing he needs right now is another case.
Frank: Yeah, you got that right. A murder, missing diamonds is more than enough for this town.
Cyrus: I better get back inside. The boss is going to get mad if I don't get back to work.
Natasha: All right, that little redhead has enough to worry about with her kid and that cop husband of hers.
Cyrus: Let me watch the Cooper’s. Actually, let me watch everyone. That way no one will connect you to anything.
Natasha: Are you looking out for me?
Cyrus: I'm looking out for both of us. There's a lot of money at stake.
Natasha: That's because there are a lot of diamonds for you to find. You know, you're under a lot of stress. If you wanted to relieve some of it...
Cyrus: I try to not get involved with women who threaten to kill me.
Natasha: Right.
Cyrus: It's just a little rule I have.
Natasha: See you.
Cyrus: (Sighs)
Marina: You really are the worst busboy ever.
Christina: Okay. I will stop bugging you about the case.
Remy: Thank you.
Christina: Let's talk about something else.
Remy: Okay. Fine by me.
Christina: Okay, let's talk about what Remy is going to do with the money he got from selling Christina’s diamond. Okay, he could buy a new car, but he won't do that because he knows I'll be mad at him. He could go to the track, but he won't do that because he knows I'd be extremely mad at him. Or he could buy me a little tiny gift and put the rest of it in savings.
Remy: I'm not doing any of that.
Christina: Why not?
Remy: Because the money's gone.
Christina: Oh, my God. You lost it in a card game.
Remy: No.
Christina: Craps?
Remy: When I would have time to do that?
Christina: I don't know. These things can happen on a moment's notice.
Remy: In the movies.
Christina: Then what happened to it, then?
Remy: My dad's house, he was going to lose it so I went to the bank and paid down the mortgage before it went into foreclosure. (Laughs)
Christina: You're amazing.
Remy: I'm not. Christina, the diamond...
Christina: I don't care how you got the diamond. So you won a few card games. What you did with that money was good.
Remy: What about that whole thing about right and wrong?
Christina: Oh, Remy, there's right and wrong, and then there's right and wrong.
Remy: You are the most confusing woman I've ever met.
Christina: I know. It's part of my charm.
First man: All right. Anybody else want to be arrested before we leave?
Second man: Mr. Lewis, you're coming with us.
Lizzie: Wait. Where are you taking him?
Second man: Right now, we're all going to the S.P.D.
Lizzie: Can I go with you?
Second man: Do you want to go in cuffs?
Lizzie: I am going to be right behind you, okay?
Bill: Yeah.
Lizzie: What the hell is going on?
First man: Okay, kid, let's go.
Beth: No. Phillip, please, do something.
James: No, I think he's done enough.
Billy: You are just going to have to change your court date. My boy needs you really bad.
Vanessa: Doesn't he understand what's at stake?
Billy: Yeah, he understood. I got to him.
Matt: Is there anything I can do?
Billy: No, not now, Matt, we're kind of busy.
Matt: Just trying to help, Billy.
Vanessa: Actually, could you... Maureen is at the Van Valkenburgh's, and I don't want to her to hear it on television. Do you think you could just go and pick her up?
Matt: Absolutely, I'll take care of it. I'll pick her up, she'll be with me. If you need anything, you know where to find us.
Vanessa: Thanks.
Billy: Thanks.
Ashlee: Did you know about this?
Daisy: Yeah, I knew he had, like, a business thing. I didn't know that it was this big a deal. I thought he was just taking money from rich people.
Ashlee: It's still stealing, even if they're rich.
Phillip: Are you all right?
Beth: I thought you were going to turn yourself in.
Phillip: It wasn't the right choice.
Beth: It would have been better than this.
Lizzie: What just happened?
Phillip: We'll talk about it later, honey. Why don't you go down to the jail and be with Bill, I'll be there soon.
Lizzie: Excuse me? Everyone? I am going to go down to the police station to be with my fiancée. So please stay here, have fun, try. And hopefully we'll be back to finish our celebration.
Ashlee: Lizzie, are you okay? Can I drive you there?
Lizzie: That would be nice.
Lillian: This just can't be happening. I mean, James is such a good boy.
Beth: He did start a fund.
Buzz: You mean the kind of stuff you read in the papers? The kind of stuff where someone made off with other people's money.
Beth: Yeah.
Buzz: Yeah.
Beth: That one.
Lillian: My God, how did he know how to do it?
Beth: I can't talk about this right now. I have to go take care of him. He's just... he's just a kid.
Frank: Well, there's a sight.
Cyrus: We all have to work, Frank.
Frank: Yes, we do. I got so many big cases going on right now at the station, we can not keep up. Everywhere I look is a criminal. Present company included.
Cyrus: What kind of cases?
Frank: Let's see, where do I start here? Well, Bill Lewis was just arrested at his own engagement party. And we got Reva Shayne, well she's being indicted for Edmund Winslow’s murder, and Mallet's the lead detective on that case. So he is very, very busy.
Cyrus: Yeah, I bet.
Frank: He is. He's been working 24/7 on it. Driving Marina nuts. That's all he talks about.
Cyrus: Wow, that must be hard on her. Well, I... I better get back out front.
Frank: Your shirt.
Marina: Okay, what's going on?
Cyrus: I'm just trying to be a good employee. I know you got a lot going on right now. So just let me know if you need anything, anything at all.
Marina: Okay. Well, I need to you keep working like this.
Cyrus: I'm here for you.
Christina: Hey.
Marina: Hey.
Christina: I need two chocolate milk shakes, please.
Marina: You want fries with that?
Christina: No, but thank you.
Marina: Where's Remy?
Christina: He's outside. He had to make a phone call.
Marina: Oh, okay. (Music plays) (cell phone beeps)
James: Look, man, I'm sorry.
Bill: Why did you do it?
James: I was just trying to get away from my family. It had nothing...
Bill: James, if you want to get away from your family, next time take a little vacation. Hey.
Lizzie: Are you okay?
Bill: Yeah, yeah, I'm okay.
James: Lizzie... I... Lizzie, I'm...
Lizzie: Don't talk to me.
First man: Come on, kid, we need to take you up for some questioning.
Lizzie: Wait, I'm sorry. Don't you have to wait for a lawyer or something?
James: I don't need a lawyer. I can answer whatever you want.
Lizzie: No, no, no, I'm sorry. You will wait for one of the company lawyers.
James: Why? I did it.
First man: Come on.
Phillip: James made a foolish mistake. He used Bill's name when he was setting up this fund.
Vanessa: Uh, foolish mistake? Actually, I would call it criminal.
Billy: Your boy's been stealing money from families all across the country and doing it in my son's name.
Phillip: I know. But don't worry, we're going to get it all straightened out.
Billy: I certainly hope you can straighten it out for my boy.
Daisy: Why did you do that to James?
Phillip: Daisy, not now.
Daisy: No, all he wants is for you to love him. And you turn him into the cops? He will never forgive you.
Alan: It's not easy having a son, is it, son?
Buzz: It sucks doesn’t it. It's supposed to be this glorious-- you know, especially when it's a son-- this glorious thing, this triumphant moment when you hand the best in you over to the next generation. But you know... like that Khalil Gibran stuff, you know? They're the arrow. You hold the bow. You aim. You screw up. It sucks.
Phillip: I just want him to be okay.
Buzz: No, you want him to be a better man than you are.
Phillip: How do I do that? How do I make that happen? How do I make him okay?
Buzz: You can't make him be anything. They come into this world, they are what they are. You can push and pull them, try to make them see things the way you see them, but they got their own dreams. Their own visions, you know? Maybe it's our job to just to see their visions. But what the hell do I know? I'm just an old man, smoking a cigarette. But I do know what it is to lose a son.
Beth: Excuse me, I'm looking for my son, James...
First man: Don't touch the prisoner, ma'am.
Beth: Honey, it's going to be all right. I'm going to call your grandfather. We're going to get you the best lawyer there is out there.
James: I'm all right, Mom, okay. I'm not a kid.
Beth: Yes, you are. It's going to be all right.
Cyrus: You guys all right? You need anything else, some fries?
Remy: No, we're good.
Christina: No, thank you.
Cyrus: Okay.
Marina: Hey. Time for a break.
Cyrus: Oh, are you taking a break?
Marina: No, I'm the boss. I don't really get a break.
Cyrus: Then I'm not taking a break.
Marina: Who are you?
Cyrus: Well, Frank told me how hard you've been working here and what a huge caseload Mallet has with the murder case. Sounds brutal. So I just thought if I work a little bit harder, take some of the pressure off you.
Marina: Wow, well, thank you. It's not been so hard on me but Mallet... this whole murder case has just been crazy. I mean, first he can't find evidence anywhere, and now there's evidence popping up everywhere.
Cyrus: Really? What... what kind of evidence?
Marina: You know what? I really don't want to talk about the case anymore. I think I'd rather go clean the coffee machine, but thanks.
Frank: Hey, guys. You look a little hungry here, can I get you a large order of fries?
Christina: No, I'm actually not that hungry, but I will go get some coffee.
Frank: You don't have to do that. I'll...
Christina: No, no, no, police business.
Frank: Okay.
Christina: Not interested.
Remy: So subtle, honey.
Frank: So any lead on those jewels?
Remy: Well, I went down by the river, but I didn't see anything. But I'm still on it though. (Cell phone rings) Sorry, hold on a second. Hey, Dad. Yeah, yeah I'll be right there. Sorry, Frank. I got to go. Dad? I thought you were at the house. I was going over there.
Clayton: I went down to the bank to make one last effort with them. They told me someone came in and paid down my mortgage. The lady said it was a handsome, young African-American man. Any idea who that might be?
Remy: It's no big deal.
Clayton: You saved our house.
Remy: I grew up there, too.
Clayton: I don't know how to pay you back.
Remy: You don't have to, Dad.
Clayton: I'm not talking about the money. I messed up and I never told your mother because I couldn't bear to see the look of disappointment in her eyes. You saved me from having to go through that. I don't how to repay you for what you protected in our family. You... you took care of it.
Remy: It's no big deal.
Clayton: Yes, it is. And I am very proud of you, son.
Lizzie: What did they ask you?
Bill: Just asked me if I set up the fund.
Lizzie: What did you say?
Bill: I told them no, because I didn't do it.
Lizzie: Well, I know you didn't do it. Of course, you didn't do it.
Bill: Do you know how they set up the fund? Through letters of credit in offshore banks.
Lizzie: Scary.
Billy: Yeah, James used my name to open some doors and...there's not even a signature, he didn't even need a signature to make it happen.
Lizzie: James is 18-years- old, 18. There's no way he could have done this.
Bill: Well, baby, I guess he's a chip off the old block. You just take your pick.
First man: Okay, Mr. Lewis, it seems your story checks out.
Lizzie: (Sighs)
Bill: Well, that's great. Can I leave now?
First man: In a few minutes. We have a few loose ends to tie up.
Lizzie: James?
First man: He confessed to everything. It seems the kid was in it all alone. He stole a lot of money. You're lucky that he confessed, otherwise you'd be spending a long time in jail. I'll be right back.
Bill: I think I need a beer.
Lizzie: I don't think they have them here, but I'll go get you a water, okay?
Bill: Thank you, baby.
Lizzie: Sorry that my brother almost got you sent to jail.
Bill: Hey.
Beth: My ex-husband has called our lawyers. They'll be here soon. But I need to see my son now.
Second man: We haven't finished questioning him.
Beth: You can't question him without an attorney present.
Second man: He's waived his right to an attorney.
Beth: He can't do that. He's a kid.
Second man: He's 18.
Beth: Barely.
Daisy: Have you seen him?
Beth: No, they won't let me see him yet.
Daisy: All right, I'll wait with you.
Beth: Daisy, that's really nice of you. And under normal circumstances, I would say that that's fine. But James probably isn't going to want to see his girlfriend tonight. He's upset.
Daisy: I'm not his girlfriend.
Beth: His friend, whatever. I'll let him know that you were here.
Daisy: Look, I could probably get my Uncle Frank to let you see him.
Beth: Daisy, you need to go home. This is a family thing.
Lizzie: I want to have something zippy to say to you right now, to put you in your place, but I can't think of anything.
James: That's because you don't know anything about me, sis.
Beth: You okay?
Bill: (Laughs) Yes, I'm perfect.
Beth: Any charges?
Bill: Well, not against me. I didn't do anything.
Beth: I know, I'm sorry. And I'm sure that James didn't mean to hurt you. He just... he didn’t... he didn't understand what he was doing.
Bill: Beth, no need, no need to say anything, okay? Have you seen Lizzie?
Beth: I thought she was with you.
Bill: No.
Lizzie: So, why did you do it?
James: Why not?
Lizzie: Because you're in here. Because you hurt a lot of people, including me and my fiancée.
James: Why wouldn't I do it to you? You said it yourself, you didn't even know what to say to me. We don't even know each other.
Lizzie: You're my brother.
James: Not really. I'm the kid that was born to save your life when you had cancer.
Lizzie: Oh, my God, is that what you think?
James: That's what it is.
Lizzie: So it means nothing to hurt me or my boyfriend.
James: I didn't want to hurt you, okay. Or Bill. I was just trying to get out.
Lizzie: Out of what?
James: The family.
Lizzie: Wow, I feel bad for you. You are me six years ago, and I hurt a lot of people trying to "get out of family." So let me just give you a little warning, the next few years of your life are going to be hell.
James: Thanks for understanding.
Lizzie: Oh, I understand. But I don't forgive you. You hurt Bill, and it's going to take me a long time to get over it.
Alan: No, no, no. I've already put a call in. The lawyer will be there shortly. Now do you need me to come by to give you a little support, huh?
Beth: No, thank you, Alan. I'm okay.
Alan: Okay, Beth, I know that you're strong. But I want you to know that I am here for you and James always, all right?
Alex: Honestly, you are shameless.
Alan: What do you mean? I'm just helping my family.
Alex: You're just using the situation to get closer to Beth.
Alan: Beth needs me and so does my grandson.
Alex: Oh, you just love it, don't you? This like one-stop shopping for you. You can get closer to Beth. You can put Phillip in the position of being the villain again.
Alan: Think about it. This is one time that my fingerprints are nowhere to be found. So why shouldn't I reap the benefits?
Beth: Hi. Are you okay?
James: Kind of hungry.
Beth: A sandwich, I should have brought you a sandwich or a doughnut. There's a vending machine outside.
James: Um, I can wait. It's not a big deal.
Beth: Look, we don't know how long it's going to be. It could be a while. Maybe you should let me get you something.
James: Is Dad here?
Beth: No, no, he's not, not yet.
James: Probably out celebrating, glad he's not the one in here.
Phillip: "Phillip Granville Spaulding, beloved son, husband, father, friend." You know what, pal? I think your family might have been better off when they thought you were buried beneath that thing. Sure haven't been much good to them since you've been back. Alan still hates you. Beth doesn't know what the hell to do with you. James... that's broken. And Lizzie? Well, Lizzie’s happy. I guess you helped her a little bit. That's something. But the rest of them, including Zack and Emma, you know, they might just be better off without you. Maybe you shouldn't have come back. The question is what are you going to do about it? Can't just stay up here on this hill for the rest of your life. I'm going. ( Rock music plays)
Christina: Where have you been? I finally ordered the fries and now they're cold.
Remy: I just told my dad that I paid for the mortgage.
Christina: Was he happy?
Remy: Yes, yes, he was.
Christina: I'm so proud of you.
Frank: Hey, Remy, I just got a fax here. These are the specs on the stolen diamonds. This is their size and clarity, so...
Marina: Wow, Edmund had stolen diamonds? Mallet never mentioned that.
Frank: Well, the two aren't necessarily connected, but I put Remy in charge of the investigation to see if he can locate the gems.
Marina: Well, if you want to know anything about stolen gems, just ask the jewel thief. He knows all about places to fence stolen jewelry, right Cyrus?
Cyrus: What?
Frank: That's actually not a bad idea. Cyrus? I just put Remy in charge of the investigation to locate the stolen jewels from San Cristobel.
Cyrus: Really?
Frank: Uh-huh. If I put you on a retainer from the police department, could Remy utilize your talents, expertise?
Cyrus: You want me to help Remy find stolen gems.
Remy: Frank, I don't think I need help from a jewel thief.
Frank: Well, see that's just exactly the point because he has a criminal mind. And he's not burdened by honesty like you are. Cyrus, how would you like to work for the Springfield Police Department to locate those gems?
Cyrus: Why not? I could use the money.
Frank: Remy, shake hands with your new partner.
Buzz: Okay, everybody, what I did miss now?
Lillian: Where have you been? Smoking?
Buzz: Stop it.
Lillian: Here.
Buzz: Thank you.
Lillian: You know, I'm just still in a state of shock. I just can't believe Phillip let his child, his son, go to jail.
Alan: Lillian, take off your rose-colored glasses. Phillip is not the hero that he thinks he is.
Alex: And you have always been too hard on him.
Billy: You know, I am just too tired to do all this all over again. ( Laughter)
Vanessa: You? You love a good barroom fight.
Billy: I still love a good barroom fight. I just don't want to fight. Let's let the young kids beat the snot out of each other.
Lillian: You don't think for a second they're going to learn from our mistakes, do you?
Billy: No!
Buzz: No!
Billy: Nobody can save them just like nobody could save us.
Buzz: Ladies and gentlemen, okay, the next generation.
Lillian: Next generation.
Vanessa: I'll drink to that.
Alex: Oh, why not?
Lizzie: Hi.
Bill: Where were you?
Lizzie: Just went back to see James.
Bill: Oh, really? How is that little ass?
Lizzie: Ah, he's an ass. I don't think he even feels bad.
Bill: Well, you know, he is a Spaulding and sometimes I think you people live by a different set of rules.
Lizzie: Not me.
Bill: Of course not you, baby. I didn't mean you.
Lizzie: You know, I wish he had gotten married today.
Bill: Me, too.
Lizzie: I don't even feel like a Spaulding any more. I am totally ready to be Lizzie Lewis.
Bill: Is that right?
Lizzie: Uh-huh.
Bill: Well, Mrs. Lewis, you have just won the freedom award. What would you like to do next?
Lizzie: I would like a Buzz burger.
Bill: A Buzz burger! That a fantastic idea. Would you like fries with that?
Lizzie: Mmm, yes.
Phillip: Where's James?
Beth: Oh, that's rich. That's really rich coming from the guy who sent him here in the first place.
Phillip: Beth.
Beth: He's locked in a cell.
Phillip: I know that this seems extreme.
Beth: No, I didn't want you to go to jail, but I would rather see you there than my son.
Phillip: Beth, he's out of control. I had to do this. I can't just let him turn into Alan.
Beth: Oh, so you decided to become Alan?
Phillip: That’s... that's not what I'm doing. I'm not trying to make his choices for him or run his life, no. Look, I love him. I just want him to learn from his mistakes so that he can be safe and happy.
Next week, on "Guiding Light"...
Shayne: Do you think that there is any chance that Mom killed Edmund?
Reva: Stop!
Buzz: Remy got you a ring?
Christina: No, just a diamond.
Phillip: I am not going to let him turn into Alan.
Beth: That would be you.
Jeffrey: Mallet might be trying to protect somebody.
Dinah: Are you blaming me?
Jeffrey: You let everyone believe that your own brother kidnapped Lizzie. How would this be any different?
