Previously on "Guiding Light"...

James: You made it?

Daisy: I had nothing better to do.

James: Spaulding, James Spaulding.

Olivia: I just know that somewhere along the line you stopped being my roommate; you became the woman I love.

James: I'd like to introduce everyone to my date.

Alan: She tried to shoot me, so she is not welcome. You should leave.

Natalia: Please give me the strength to do the right thing today. You've never abandoned me before; please don't leave me now.

Beth: (Laughing) Hey there, slacker. Oh, look at this. I've got tons of work to do, and you've got time to exercise. (Laughing)

Phillip: Time is all I have at the moment.

Beth: Yeah. Gee, and to think you could be serving time instead of enjoying it.

(Laughing)

Phillip: Were you always this funny?

Beth: Rick's influence.

Phillip: How fitting. Oh, God, I feel old. You're right, though. I am lucky to be here.

Beth: You must be. It certainly wasn't my legal expertise that got you out of prison.

Phillip: You did everything you could. It was a no-win case.

Beth: Well, at least the Governor didn't think so.

Phillip: The Governor, for reasons I'm not sure we want to examine too closely, commuted my sentence as a favor to his daughter and our son.

Beth: James is an amazing kid.

Phillip: I can't figure out why he would want to help me. He barely knows me.

Beth: Well, he knew how upset I was.

Phillip: He is very protective of you. I can see that. I like that.

Beth: I still wish we had won the case in the first place.

Phillip: I never intended to win. I knew I was going to jail.

Beth: You knew, and yet... but you could have waited for the statute of limitations to run out.

Phillip: Yeah, I could have done a lot of things, I guess. Can I buy you a cup of coffee?

Beth: Why?

Phillip: Why, what?

Beth: If you knew that you were going to prison, why come back now?

Alan: Go away.

Alexandra: I thought you might need this, dear.

Alan: Does it have brandy in it?

Alexandra: No.

Alan: Well, then I don't want it.

Alexandra: Fine. What the devil is going on with you, Alan? Huh? Only a few days ago you were dumping money around the table like it was some grand door prize. And now you're here in your sweatpants in the middle of the day.

Alan: I'm relaxing.

Alexandra: I... I can see had that. But would you mind telling me why you need so much relaxing, dear? Huh?

Alan: I've lost. I've lost everything, Alex.

Alexandra: Your company is doing better than even expected in this down market.

Alan: Yeah, well, I'm not the CEO of it, though.

Alexandra: You were just at a luncheon with your children, your grandchildren, surrounding you, even Beth was there.

Alan: They hate me.

Alexandra: Oh, come on. Your beloved son is finally home.

Alan: To usurp my place as head of this family.

Alexandra: Alan, sit up, darling.

Alan: What?

Alexandra: I want to tell you something. Just sit up. Sit up, please.

Alan: What?

Alexandra: Good lord. Look at me.

Alan: What?

Alexandra: You're acting like a spoiled brat.

James: I don't want to play with these guys. Their rank is too low. I'll talk to you later, man.

Lizzie: Hey, I'm sorry.

James: What?

Lizzie: That you feel like we don't know each other that well. We can hang out today. You want to do something? We could bond.

James: I have to pee.

Doris: So, well, I think it's obvious, or I hope it is by now that I am not Father Ray, but Mayor Doris Wolfe. And I am here to solemnize the wedding of Frank Cooper and Natalia Rivera, if that's okay?

Frank: That's fine by me.

Doris: Great. So, dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join Natalia and Frank in matrimony. That's a lovely word. Isn't it? Matrimony. It is an honorable state, one not to be entered into lightly, but rather soberly, advisedly, and in full of knowledge of the consequences and responsibilities, but I'm sure we all know the responsibilities that are required. So I am here to charge you, Frank and Natalia. If either one of you has any reason, whatsoever, that you should not be lawfully joined in marriage forever, speak now or forever hold your peace. Well?

Olivia: No! Body seems to be objecting. So... right? Right.

Mallet: Who would object to Frank finally getting the girl, right? Right. I think it's safe to say we all came here to see true love.

Phillip: Okay, here's your chance. Still two creams, one sugar, decaf?

Beth: You're good.

Phillip: That's something that hasn't changed. I don't think you asked me the question that you wanted to ask. I don't think it's, "why did you come back?" I think it's, "what are you going to do now that you're out of jail?"

Beth: Ah, well that, you see, is my second question, but you're still not going to avoid the first. (Laughing)

Phillip: I came back because I had to. I missed my family. And I knew I was finally healthy enough to come back. I wanted to make amends. I knew there would be repercussions. I knew that I was going to jail.

Beth: And you were okay with that?

Phillip: I thought it was the only way that everybody else would be okay with that. I thought it was the only way they could forgive me.

Beth: So you were willing to spend the rest of your life in prison?

Phillip: Not the rest of my life. But I figured a few years, maybe. And here I am.

Beth: So now what? (Laughing)

Phillip: I don't know. I don't, because I hadn't gotten that far in my thinking. I really thought I was going to have some time to figure it out.

Beth: That's not a bad place to be. You're like a kid who has just gotten out of school. You have lots of opportunities available to you.

Phillip: Yeah.

Beth: You really can start over.

Phillip: Maybe I can.

Beth: So what's the first step?

Phillip: I'm thinking about going to a movie. Do you want to come with me?

Beth: No. I... I have a class to go to, and I'm late.

Phillip: Can I carry your books?

Beth: No.

Phillip: You sure?

Beth: I'm all right. (Laughing) You could ask one of the kids. They might like that. Let me know how that goes.

Phillip: I'm sure James would love to go.

Beth: Or you could ask my mother. She likes to go to the movies.

Phillip: She still loves me.

Beth: So do I.

I can't turn away because it's what you dream of

it's everything that we love and I just need to know

Alan: You hit me.

Alexandra: Yes, and I will hit you again if you don't stop acting like some spoiled brat.

Alan: Well, you've been away for a while, Alexandra. You don't know the terrible things that I have been going through. After all, Phillip has come home.

Alexandra: Yes, your darling son that you love more than anything else in the world is home, and he loves you, Alan.

Alan: Yeah, well, I love him, too, but he's come home to destroy me.

Alexandra: Where did that come from?

Alan: Everyone seems to have forgotten all of the bad things he has done, and they believe in him again.

Alexandra: How can that hurt you, sweetheart?

Alan: Well, it doesn't hurt me, but it terrifies me, Alexandra, because I don't believe he is well. He sucked in all of the people that I love and have protected ever since he's been gone.

Alexandra: Okay, Alan, how did he suck them in?

Alan: His aura. His charisma. Look, you were at the luncheon. You saw them all gazing at him, fawning at him. And here I am, sitting at the other end of the table, all alone.

Alexandra: That's because they love him. They always have!

Alan: I want them to love me, too.

Alexandra: Why can't they love the both of you?

Alan: Elizabeth can't be his princess and my princess at the same time.

Alexandra: Elizabeth happens to have a life. Now she has a job. She has a love. She doesn't need to be anybody's princess right now, Alan.

Alan: He's going to take her away from me. That's what he's trying to do. He's also come home to get even with me.

Alexandra: Oh, Alan, of course, you did shoot him.

You help me keep it together

Doris: Marriage is an institution ordained by God. The very essence of which is love and commitment.

It's everything that we love so I need to know

if you want me to stay

Doris: No trap doors, no hidden compartments in a successful marriage.

Marina: Put your phone away.

Daisy: It's on vibrate.

Doris: Love... real love, by its very nature, is open, honest, active. Love is never doing what is expected, or taking the easy road. Love is pure and changeless, and it outlasts us all, endures all. And that's why marriage should not be entered into thoughtlessly or recklessly. Or as a matter of convenience. Sorry.

Frank: Doris? What's wrong?

Doris: You know, it was on silent, but I'm getting a call.

Olivia: I'm sure that it can wait.

Doris: You know what, actually. It's the City Council, and I'm sorry, everybody. I have to take this. I won't be long.

Frank: Pop, quick, tell a joke, will you?

Buzz: A joke, Frank?

Frank: A joke.

Buzz: How many Greeks does it take to...

Frank: Not that one. Not that one. (Laughter)

Buzz: How about some music, some Greek music? We can dance.

Daisy: Oh, Grandpa, no.

Buzz: Well, dance me at the reception... the first dance of the reception.

Daisy: Oh, that's not fair.

Frank: Daisy, please say yes.

Buzz: Somebody dance with me.

Ashlee: I'll dance with you, Buzz.

Christina: Me too.

Buzz: Ah, you had your chance.

Mallet: I'm going to step out, check the machine, call home and see if Protective Services called.

Remy: It's funny. It's funny. We get divorced, and I take you to a wedding.

Christina: I'm having fun. Somebody just invited me to dance.

Remy: No, no, no, no. You volunteered to dance.

Christina: Well, maybe someone will ask me at the reception.

Remy: I don't dance Greek.

Christina: Well, then it's me and Buzz, buddy.

Rafe: Okay, well, no one is going to forget this wedding, huh?

Frank: Well, I know I won’t. It's the best day of my life.

Olivia: Hello? There is no one there. What are you trying to pull?

Doris: Look, I am running out of ways to give you a chance, okay? I want you to go back over there, pull her aside, and tell her how you really feel, before she walks out of this church and out of your life.

So there we go and I can't hear you

Marina: Hey.

Mallet: Hey.

Marina: Any news from home? Okay, what's up?

Mallet: Child Protective Services called, and they want to move up our interview. They actually want to do it later today.

Marina: What? Why so soon? Okay. They're worried about Henry. They're worried about his welfare.

Mallet: Well, they didn't say that.

Marina: Okay, then what did they say?

Mallet: Well, they didn't say a lot.

Marina: Mallet, how many kids have we rescued from homes? You know that we have to find... we have to prove that there has been actual harm before they'll do anything. They must have discovered something.

Mallet: What? What? What?

Marina: I don't know. I don't know. All I know is that they are not taking away my baby. Henry is ours.

Mallet: It's going to be okay. It's going to be okay. All right?

Marina: Hey.

Mallet: Hey.

Marina: James. Well, I didn't know that you were home.

James: For now. Congratulations. I hear you have a new baby at home.

Mallet: Yeah. Thank you. Henry.

James: Um... I heard that Daisy was here. I just wanted to see her. Do you know where she is sitting? Um... she mentioned that Emma was here. I want to see my little sister all dressed up as a flower girl.

Marina: Yeah. Probably inside the church.

Mallet: Yeah.

Rafe: I saw you walk into the church.

Daisy: Hey, I am so glad that you are here. This is the best wedding gift that Natalia could possibly have. How long can you stay?

Rafe: Well, I'm back. I have to go back to the halfway house in about a week, but I'm here for good.

Daisy: I'm so happy for you.

Rafe: Are you?

Daisy: Of course.

Rafe: Well, Frank got me out, so I owe your uncle a lot.

Daisy: Well, he's marrying your mom. That's all that matters. I've never seen him so happy.

Rafe: Here's my mother. Take her. Take her.

Daisy: Well, um, I should go sit. Yeah.

Rafe: I'll talk to you later.

Daisy: Okay.

Rafe: Okay.

Frank: Making a wish?

Natalia: I was just saying a prayer. It's one of my favorite scriptures, about the sanctity of marriage, from the book of Ruth. "For wither thou goest, I will go, where thou lodgest, I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people. Thy God, my God. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee in me."

Frank: It's a beautiful prayer. And exactly why are you thinking about it?

Natalia: Frank, I just... I want you to know that I just think it's so wonderful to know my beliefs and respect them, and understand how important it is for me that we're doing it the right way.

Frank: Natalia, your relationship with God is what defines you. It's what makes you the wonderful woman that you are. Now, I'm going to go see what's up with Doris. Because, you know what? We need to get married.

Natalia: We should just give her a few minutes, though, because it was really last minute, so I think we should just be polite. I'm sure she'll be back in a minute.

Olivia: Go out there and finish the wedding.

Doris: Why don't you go and talk to Natalia?

Olivia: I made my decision.

Doris: But you are throwing away...

Olivia: Just stop it! Just stop it!

Doris: What, are you afraid they're going to hear me? That would be a shame, wouldn't it? Well, it would be a bigger shame if the person you love doesn't hear anything at all.

Olivia: I am not going to stop this wedding. So go out there and finish it.

Doris: You cannot bury your feelings...

Olivia: Watch me! For the first time in my life, I am doing the right thing. I want what's best for her.

Doris: Frank is best for her?

Olivia: Frank loves her. He loves her, probably as much as I do. And he'll be good to her. And he can give her what I can't: A normal life, more kids. I want that for her, more than I want her for myself. So would you please just do this!

Doris: Well, I'm sorry about that, Natalia. I know how anxious you are to become Mrs. Frank Cooper.

Olivia: Yes, she is. So let's do this.

Doris: Well, now that business just concluded, we can continue with the wedding. Frank and Natalia have asked Frank's daughter, Marina, to sing a song.

Marina: Set me as a seal on your heart set me as a seal on your soul

you're strong as this love unyielding as the brave

nothing will quench its flame nothing will quench its flame

I looked for you the one my heart loves (cell phone vibrates)

Marina: I looked for you could not find you

I searched through the night (cell phone vibrates)

Marina: Now I will never let you go

kiss me, my love let your name be on my lips

you intoxicate my being with the fragrance of your presence

set me as a seal on your heart set me as a seal on your soul

you're strong as this love unyielding as the brave (cell phone vibrates)

Marina: Nothing will quench its flame nothing will quench its flame

nothing will quench its flame

Phillip: Hey. I'm sorry. If I knew you were coming, I would have saved you a cookie.

Alexandra: That's fine, darling. Thank you.

Phillip: Hey, what are you doing right now? Do you have any plans for this afternoon?

Alexandra: Nothing really earth-shaking.

Phillip: Do you want to go to the movies with me?

Alexandra: Why not? (Laughing) What are you in the mood to see?

Phillip: I don't care. Just to get out of here. You pick. I don't care.

Alan: Well, look at you two, off for an afternoon matinee, huh?

Phillip: Yeah. Why? Want to come?

Alan: To a movie in the afternoon? No, thank you, son. So is this how you're going to spend your time, taking your dear old Aunt Alexandra to the movies?

Alexandra: Thank you very much.

Phillip: Yeah. Sure. I'll take all of the seniors. You guys get a discount, don't you?

Alan: When I want to see a movie, I have a private screening.

Phillip: Oh!

Alan: Tell me, so this is why you've come home, son? To lounge around and go to movies? Is that it?

Phillip: I already did what I came home to do. I just didn't figure I'd be finished this fast.

Alan: Do you have any plans for the future? Or are you just going to eat my food and drink my booze?

Alexandra: Alan, please.

Phillip: I might.

Alan: Well, that is not acceptable. Alexandra, we have to find him something to do.

Alexandra: Okay. All right. Well, Phillip, why don't you come back to work at the company, huh? You still have stock. You can sit on the board.

Alan: I... I don't think he's ready for that.

Phillip: Well, I will be working. I'm just not necessarily going to be working at Spaulding.

Alan: Where else is there?

Phillip: Look, things are going well at Spaulding. Bill and Lizzie are doing a great job, right?

Alan: Yes, they are, but, you know, come to think of it, I would rather have you sitting back on the board than listen to another boring speech by Bill Lewis. You know, Alexandra, you may have hit on something. It would be great to have him back on the board. We need his expertise and experience.

Phillip: No, no, no. I don't think so.

Alan: What, is it Elizabeth? I know you are trying to give her some space and everything, but I feel that just the opposite would be more productive.

Phillip: Well, I'm sure you do. But at the moment, my daughter needs to get used to the idea of having a father again.

Alan: Well, and working with her would help. She would gain trust in you again and believe in you again.

Phillip: The way you have?

Alan: Do it for Elizabeth, son. Do it for yourself.

Phillip: H'mmm.

Alan: Come on. What do you say?

Phillip: I'll tell you what. I'll think about it... after the movie. Come on, Aunt Alex. There is a big popcorn with our name all over it.

Alan: Popcorn.

Emma: "Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, love does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails, and now these three remain: Faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love."

Natalia: I love you.

Emma: I love you, too.

Doris: Thank you. That was lovely, Emma. Frank?

Frank: Yes?

Doris: It's time for the vows.

Frank: Oh.

Buzz: Hang on to this. It might keep you calm.

Frank: Thank you, Pop. You are so beautiful.

Buzz: That's it? (Laughter)

Frank: You are a gift from God. You came into my life, and you made me believe again. I had pretty much given up on love until I met you. I didn't think anyone like you ever existed, but you do. And I've got to be honest with you, Natalia, that I think I fell in love with you the second I saw you. Your goodness, your kindness. Natalia, I love you with all of my heart. And I vow from this day forward to always take care of you and your son Rafe, for the rest of my life. There is nothing that you can't ask of me, and nothing I won't do for you. I love you. And I love you so much. I will protect you. I will keep you safe. I will honor you until the day I die, and then some.

Natalia: Thank you, Frank.

Frank: Can I kiss her now?

Doris: No.

Frank: Please? (Laughter)

Doris: It's your turn.

Olivia: Here's Frank's ring. It will give you the same strength that yours gave him.

Natalia: I feel so blessed. This is the dream that I've cherished since I was a little girl. Standing here in a beautiful church, marrying a man who loves me. Even though I held on to that dream for my entire life, I never thought that it actually could happen for me. But here I am. God must love me very much. I believe in God, and I believe that God is all about love. And when you feel love, you are experiencing the love through God. You're allowed to feel what he feels. And that's what's so wonderful about it. When you feel that direct gift from God... when you feel that, when you feel that love, you have to cherish it with all of your heart. And I do feel love. I want to devote my life to you. I want to pledge my heart to you. And so I stand here in front of all of our friends and family and before God... I stand here before God... I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I can’t. I'm sorry, Frank. I'm sorry.

you come and bring me home you come and bring me home

home...

Alan: Well, that was a very short movie.

Alexandra: Well, Phillip had a little change of plans.

Alan: Really? What, you decided to visit the mall?

Phillip: No. I was giving some thought to what you said earlier, and I'm in. I will take a seat on the board.

Alan: Well, son, welcome back. I'm very glad you finally came to your senses. As a matter of fact, I think I'll call the press right now and set up a conference.

Phillip: Whatever you want to do. I think it is a good idea. It will give me a chance to spend time with Lizzie, and at the same time I can keep an eye on things around here.

Alan: Terrific. Well, I'm going to call Elizabeth right now and share the good news with her.

Olivia: I'm... I'm gonna go see what's wrong.

Marina: Don't worry. She'll be back.

Frank: I should go.

Buzz: No, no, no. She needs a minute. Give her a chance to catch her breath and then she'll come back.

Marina: He's right. Grandpa's right. Are you okay, Dad?

Frank: I will be as soon as she walks through that door.

Marina: She will. She loves you. She'll be back.

(Cell phone vibrates)

James: Hey, sis.

Lizzie: Granddad needs us. A family meeting.

James: You go. I'm good.

Lizzie: That is so unfair.

James: You're the one who wants to play grownup.

Lizzie: You owe me. (Cell phone vibrates)

Daisy: I didn't invite you.

Natalia: Don’t... don't. Don’t... don't forsake me, please, God. Please don’t.

Alan: I've taken the liberty to have a few press releases drawn up. I've had the entire team working on it.

Phillip: Great.

Lizzie: What's going on?

Alan: Well, Elizabeth, your father has accepted my invitation to rejoin the Spaulding board.

Lizzie: Oh, wow. Do you think you're ready for that?

Alan: And the press is right outside, so I suggest that we hit the ground running.

Phillip: Wait. Do you minute if I just kind of take a peek before we go.

Alan: Well, sure. It's just a pretty standard release, actually.

Phillip: “Prodigal son returns.”

Alan: You'll notice that I've highlighted your achievements on there.

Phillip: Oh, wait! "I know there have been some questions about my mental state since that day, long ago, when I tried to be abduct my children"?

Alan: There have been questions.

Phillip: "Naturally, I intend to seek the help of a qualified psychiatrist, who will sign off on my abilities before I assume my position on the board of directors at Spaulding-Lewis Enterprises." What the hell is this?

Alan: Phillip, it is just a few simple tests.

Phillip: Really? And what happens if I don't pass them? Do you think I'm going to check myself into Ravenwood or some other psychiatric facility? Is that the plan?

Alan: If it will help you get well, yes. I am not asking you to do this for me or the board or the press. I'm asking you to do this for your daughter.

James: So when does the Greek dancing start?

Christina: That's really not funny. These are nice people, and they're really upset.

Ashlee: Oh, this is the hot guy that Daisy found when she was looking for Grady?

Daisy: Ash...

Ashlee: What? That's what you said?

James: You told her I was hot?

Daisy: I told her you thought you were hot.

Frank: I have to find her.

Lillian: No, no, no. She is a good person, Frank. She's going to come back here and tell you what's bothering her.

Buzz: Just don't pressure her.

Frank: I've tried not to, Pop.

Marina: Come on, Dad. You remember Mallet and my wedding? Come on. Gosh, it took like three times before we finally got it right. This is going to be fine.

Frank: Honey, if you want to be helpful, send everyone home, okay? We'll work this out.

Mallet: Frank, come on, just let us know what you need.

Frank: I just need to find Natalia.

Because I've made my mistakes but you love me the same

one hundred red bows on the old sycamore by the road

Coming up on "Guiding Light"...

Bill: I came here because I wanted to ask you out.

Lizzie: Date number four.

Bill: Four to ten.

Frank: Did you say anything to her? Did you raise the same doubts about our marriage that you laid on me?

Alan: Do you want your father to get an evaluation? History might repeat itself.

Natalia: I can't marry Frank!

Olivia: Yes, you can! You can marry Frank!

Natalia: I don't love him! I love you!
