Previously on "Guiding Light":
Lizzie: What I am looking for is an ally at this company. Do you really think that you're ready to step up, and be my number one person here?
Cyrus: I'm in.
Buzz: Alan has to be taken down. Phillip’s the one person who knows how to do that. And that's what I told him, and that's why I need him.
Frank: So you want to use Phillip as a weapon against Alan?
Buzz: If he's still dangerous, why not take advantage of it?
Phillip: Well, I was wondering when you would show.
Bill: I had to jump through quite a few hoops to get in here.
Phillip: Climb any mountains?
Bill: You know about that?
Phillip: Oh, you'd be surprised what I know.
Bill: You mean Olivia and Emma? I'm not here because of them.
Phillip: I know that.
Bill: I'm here because of Lizzie. Phillip, I love your daughter.
Phillip: That's funny because I was told that you kidnapped her.
Bill: I didn't do it.
Phillip: Why should I believe you?
Bill: Because I know who did it. Someone who has weaseled their way into Lizzie’s life. He has got her convinced that he is the only one that she can trust.
Phillip: And you, you figured all of that out, but the police couldn't?
Bill: It took some time, but, yeah.
Phillip: All right. Let's say I'm interested in hearing more about your theory. Who is this mystery man?
Bill: Cyrus Foley.
Cyrus: Hey, Grady, listen, you really can't call me here. Well, I'm making progress. Slow and steady, that's how I'll do it. Because it's a long-range plan. It's only going to work when Lizzie trusts me completely, and I'm getting there. No, Ms. Spaulding will not be commenting on this. It's a private family matter. End of story.
Lizzie: Is that the press?
Cyrus: Yup.
Lizzie: They've been calling the house, too. Your mentally unhinged father has returned to Springfield, the one that kidnapped you. How does that make you feel? Oh, I'm sorry, you don't want to talk about that? How about your ex-boyfriend, you know, the one that just died. Is it true that he was having an affair with your mother?
Cyrus: They're all a bunch of vultures. I'm really sorry about Coop.
Lizzie: Yeah, me, too.
Cyrus: If you want to go home, I can deal with stuff here.
Lizzie: Actually, I don't want to go home at all.
Cyrus: Okay. Well, if you want to push things back, people will understand. You can't do everything.
Lizzie: No. No, I can’t. That's why I need your help.
Cyrus: That's why I'm here.
Lizzie: It's looks like you're the only person I can trust these days.
Jeffrey: Hey. How's it going?
Reva: Not good. I can't seem to get past "Dear Buzz."
Jeffrey: Just, ah-- I don't know-- tell him how you feel, Reva.
Reva: That's what I've been trying to do. "I'm sorry for your loss. Words can't express..."
Jeffrey: It sounds good.
Reva: No, it doesn’t. It sounds clichéd, and Buzz is a whole lot more than just a friend, and I want him to know it.
Jeffrey: Why don't we just go see him?
Reva: That's what we should do. You're right, we should do this in person. And we should stop and see Daisy, too. Coop was her uncle, and with Dylan out of town on business, and Harley not coming back for the funeral...
Jeffrey: Okay. So we'll go see Daisy and Buzz, and we'll get it all done.
Reva: I know that you had something planned for today, but can it wait?
Jeffrey: No, it can’t.
Reva: Why won't you tell me what it is?
Jeffrey: Because it's a surprise, and it has to happen today. Trust me.
Billy: Hey. Good. You're here. Let’s... let's go.
Reva: Where are we going?
Billy: Daisy left me a message. She's completely brokenhearted about it.
Reva: I know.
Billy: And with her parents being gone, I figured it's time for the grandparents to step up, okay?
Reva: I was just telling Jeffrey the same thing.
Josh: Well, apparently when Shayne got the news, it hit him pretty hard. It took him straight back to Lara.
Billy: So... all roads lead to this road.
Jeffrey: Um, sorry, boys. Today that road is closed.
Reva: We were just actually heading out. We're going to go see Buzz.
Billy: Well good, let's all, let's all have a cup of tea here, and we'll all go together.
Josh: Okay.
Reva: Okay.
Time moves in
like heights and shadows
in shades of sorrow
and content
my mind's is fading,
thoughts parading
wide awake, I'm fast asleep
filled with information
drains me
I guess what I really mean is
ohh, I can't tune to the day
is making mistakes
wishing it would be tomorrow
I thought that on my face
hey, that's the breaks wrapped
into pieces
yeah, I'm just a work in
progress, I'm not the best,
we all make mistakes
I won't say I'm sorry
won't take it back now
I'm kind of walking around
on the moon
man, I'm getting out of here
soon
got to get back to you
always in the course of my
life
always end up doing just fine
got to get back you
if I make it, I'll take it
if I make it, for you
Cyrus: I can't believe this.
Lizzie: It's what you've been asking me for, right?
Cyrus: Well, yeah, but these are your biggest clients. And these figures? This is everything.
Lizzie: Yeah, even the things we don't tell the I.R.S.
Cyrus: Are you sure that you want this?
Lizzie: Are you sure you can handle it?
Cyrus: Hey, no question.
Alexandra: Hello, everyone.
Cyrus: Alex! You look very well.
Alexandra: That's sweet of you to say. However, I don't believe a word of it.
Cyrus: Oh, come on, Alex, aren't you ever going to forgive me for my past mistakes?
Alexandra: Possibly, if you showed some real sorrow, but, then again, probably not.
Lizzie: What's going on, Aunt Alex?
Alexandra: May I have a word with you alone, please?
Lizzie: Oh, it's not necessary...
Cyrus: I'll be down the hall if you need me.
Alexandra: We won’t. Please close the door on your way out.
Lizzie: Is there a problem?
Alexandra: Oh, yes. His name is Cyrus Foley.
Phillip: So after my Aunt Alex was married to Cyrus...
Bill: He got involved with Marina Cooper. In fact, they were engaged. And then he starts having a secret affair with Harley.
Phillip: With Harley?
Bill: Uh-huh. Part of the reason why she went to Greece was to get away from him.
Phillip: And you're certain that he's the one that kidnapped Lizzie?
Bill: I know it.
Phillip: Then why aren't you telling the police?
Bill: Because I don't have the proof. Look, Phillip, there is a reason why I went looking for you. Because I need your help to protect Lizzie.
Phillip: (Laughs) Because I've got such a great relationship with my daughter right now.
Bill: No. Because I'm desperate.
Phillip: Okay. Tell me everything. Start with the day that Lizzie was kidnapped.
Mel: What did Marina say? I know, it's so surreal. And what about Buzz? Is anyone looking after him? Oh, you know what? I see Buzz, um... I'll call you back, Rem.
Buzz: We're not open today.
Mel: I know, Buzz. I didn't come by for food. I just... I just... I'm so sorry.
Buzz: I know.
Mel: I'm sorry.
Buzz: I was going to call you.
Mel: You were? Good. Good. What can I do? How can I help?
Buzz: Coop made a will. Why would someone so young make a will? Why would he think that he would be gone and I would be reading his will?
Bill: Look, Phillip, I love your daughter. We've definitely had our ups and downs...
Phillip: The day Lizzie was kidnapped.
Bill: The day she was kidnapped, is the day we had this huge presentation. And, um... it was, it was big. We were working with Lawrence Decker, and it was something that was going to be one of the biggest moments of her life, you know. And everything was coming together professionally and personally, and Lizzie and I were working very hard on it. She was supposed to meet me there. And she didn't show up. And I thought she was flaking out on me. And then Lawrence Decker was pressuring me to begin, but I wanted to wait for her. But I couldn’t. I had to do the presentation. And I did, and it was a success, and all of the calls came in, and people wanted to start working with us. And this is something that I should have shared with Lizzie, but she wasn't around. And I was a little upset, and I went to her room, and her clothes were gone, like she had left town. So I didn't think anything was wrong. And then before I know it, I get this note, a ransom note for $50,000. And then another one for $5 million, saying don't call the police. So I make this ransom drop, but the guy gets spooked, and he runs. And the next thing I know, I get a call from Lizzie because somehow she gets her hands on a phone. So I'm running to the police station to get them to trace the call, but then I lose her. And I thought she was gone, so I was drinking.
Phillip: Wait, wait a minute. You're... you're drinking. You don't know where she is, and you haven't found her...
Bill: And I started just walking. And, and I'm on the edge of Springfield, and I come across this white van. And I just know something is up. So I look inside, and I saw a pair of earrings, and I know... I know they're Lizzie’s earrings.
Phillip: You just found them in the van?
Bill: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then I'm looking, and I see a leak, that was like an oil leak, or steering fluid or something. So I just start walking, and I start following it. And I just keep going, and it takes me to the old canning factory. And then I go inside... and in the corner... I see Lizzie.
Phillip: You're telling me that you saved my daughter?
Bill: Yes. Yes.
Phillip: Okay. Then why does she think that you kidnapped her?
Bill: Because when I found her, we took the van. We took the van, which was a stupid thing to do, and we got into an accident. And I was unconscious for a few weeks. And that gave the person who did this time to plant phony evidence against me. You see? So when I wake up in the hospital, I see Lizzie standing there, and before I can even get a word out, Frank comes inside and wants to arrest me.
Phillip: Uh-huh. Well, I assume you told them the same thing you told me, right?
Bill: I tried. I tried. I went and I talked to Frank, without a lawyer, and... um, my memory was so fuzzy, that every time I answered a question, I made myself look even guiltier.
Phillip: Hang on a second. If this all happened the way that you said it did, and they think you're guilty of this, then why aren't you in here with me?
Bill: There was a fire at Christmas, there was a fire in the police warehouse, with all of the phony evidence they had against me. It burned down.
Phillip: Wow, that's a lucky break.
Bill: Well, you would think so. But Lizzie, she no longer believes in me. So at this point, I had to be up front with her and tell her that I couldn't actually remember. It just sounded so ridiculous. Then all I could think about was finding you.
Phillip: I need to think about this.
Bill: Okay. Think about it. But think fast, Phillip, because Lizzie’s in trouble. I am telling you the truth. And you and I are the only two people who can protect her.
Alexandra: Lizzie, Lizzie, you, you... honest to Pete, you cannot share these files with Cyrus Foley.
Lizzie: I trust him.
Alexandra: Have you absolutely forgotten what that man did to me?
Lizzie: No. I guess I just... I believe that people can change.
Alexandra: Sure they can, second by second.
Lizzie: I have. You have.
Alexandra: You and I are not of the same milk as Cyrus Foley.
Lizzie: Why?
Alexandra: All right, darling, look, I'm on my way to see Buzz. Hand in my condolences. Maybe you ought to come with me, huh? Maybe Marina will remind you of what she really thinks of Cyrus Foley, huh? Okay, darling. You will get lucky-- Harley will call and they can commiserate, and fill you in completely on Cyrus.
Lizzie: Or maybe they can just tell me how they think that I ruined Coop's life.
Alexandra: What?
Lizzie: I tried to trick the man into marrying me. I tried to convince him...
Alexandra: Oh yeah.
Lizzie: ...That Sarah was his daughter.
Alexandra: Okay, darling, that was a long time ago.
Lizzie: It wasn't that long ago. Sarah is not even three years old. And I can't stop thinking: What if I had just told the truth? What if, for one second, I had thought of anyone other than myself, maybe Coop would still be alive.
Alexandra: Oh, please. Come on, this was a terrible, terrible accident, darling, and you had absolutely nothing to do with that.
Lizzie: Well, maybe not Coop's accident. But let's face it, if it wasn't for me, Tammy would still be alive. And I would probably still have my daughter, but I don't have my daughter. And I don't have Bill, and I don't have my mom, and I don't have my grandfather.
Alexandra: All right, darling. But your father-- he's come back into your life.
Lizzie: My father wasn't there for me when I needed him. The only thing I have is this company. And the only thing I am asking for is one person that I can trust. And right now, that person is Cyrus.
Alexandra: Well thank you. I'll give the Cooper’s your condolences, dear.
(Knocking)
Mel: Do you want me to get that? Tell them to come back at a better time.
Buzz: There is no better time.
Reva: Hi.
Jeffrey: Hi.
Reva: Hey, you.
Buzz: Hi, beautiful.
Mel: You know, why don't I make us some more coffee?
Jeffrey: Why don't I help her? Mel makes terrible coffee.
Reva: How you doing? Whatever you need, I'm here, and so is Jeffrey, and the whole family.
Buzz: I need you not to give birth here.
Reva: (Laughs) I didn't even know whether I should come.
Buzz: Why?
Reva: Because it just... didn't seem right. You know, I mean, my little guy here, and your guy gone.
Buzz: I miss him.
Reva: I know. I know. Me too.
Phillip: I'm still at the police station. Yep, sitting in a jail cell. And you are the lucky winner. You are the recipient of my one phone call. I need your help. Hey...
Alexandra: Hey love. Oh, Phillip.
Phillip: It's good to see you.
Alexandra: It's so good to see you. I was afraid I couldn't bear to seeing you in here like this, honestly.
Phillip: It's okay. Everything's going to be okay. I'm home, and everything is going to be fine.
Alexandra: You're home. Right.
Phillip: It's good to see you. Look at you. You look as beautiful as ever.
Alexandra: Oh, sure. Thank you. (Laughs) Well, I came as soon as I can. I haven't even unpacked, I was on my way to see Buzz, you know.
Phillip: Ah, yeah. Listen, I'm glad you came.
Alexandra: I'm a little surprised you didn't call Rick first to come help you out here though.
Phillip: Ah, you know, Rick and I have a few things that we need to work out.
Alexandra: Yes, I imagine you do. Well, is everybody filling you in on the happenings around here?
Phillip: Oh, yes. Yeah. I've been getting filled in from everybody. Everybody's been happy to give me their version of events. And that's the problem. Everybody is trying to position me.
Alexandra: And you don't quite know who to believe?
Phillip: No.
Alexandra: Well, I seem to be the only person in this town who didn't know anything about Beth’s little affair, her little fling with Coop. But then there's a lot of things I don't know.
Phillip: No, this is not about Beth. This is about Lizzie. I want you to tell me what you know about Cyrus Foley.
Alexandra: Cyrus, well, whatever you've heard, he's ten times more dangerous than that. He's not only handsome, he is so damn charming. (Laughs) And before you know it, he's just taking over your entire life. Well, Lizzie, now I think he is working on her.
Reva: Nothing.
Josh: From Shayne or Dinah?
Reva: No.
Josh: Well, maybe he's not with her. Maybe he's with Edmund.
Reva: You think?
Josh: Well, I don't know, but he's never going to return our calls, we have no choice but to go over to his motel and look for him, right?
Jeffrey: No, no. Absolutely not. Reva's not available.
Josh: For our son?
Jeffrey: Not available, okay? You can go chasing after Shayne, but leave Reva out of it. She's sick and she's pregnant, and enough is enough. Josh, I'm sorry if you are not connecting with Shayne. But dragging Reva into it and trying to recreate the family is not the answer.
Buzz: Oh, no! The dinner.
Jeffrey: That's okay, Buzz.
Buzz: No, Jeffrey came by a couple of weeks ago, and he wanted me to create a menu, some of your favorites, you know, to celebrate for tomorrow.
Reva: What's tomorrow? Oh, my chemo?
Jeffrey: Well, I didn't want you to find out like this. I'm sorry. It's not just any chemo session. It's your last one, and all of the doctors told me that that's an important hurtle to get over, and I thought we should, you know, celebrate.
Buzz: Look, I can still put something together.
Reva: No.
Jeffrey: You don't have to do anything, Buzz, please, okay? I've got a backup anyway. It's okay.
Buzz: Why not?
Reva: Because, Buzz, really? How can I celebrate when you're going through this?
Buzz: Because it's life, and it's precious, and you should celebrate it. Coop would want it that way, okay? So you know, think of me when you make a toast.
Reva: I love you. I love you.
Phillip: You're pretty much confirming everything that Bill told me.
Alexandra: Bill Lewis?
Phillip: Yeah. He's the one that told me about Foley.
Alexandra: Well, you probably can believe what he has to say about Cyrus Foley. I don't know if you can believe so much of what else he has to say these days.
Phillip: Why? What don't I know about Bill?
Alexandra: Unfortunately, I just happen to think maybe he is following in his father's foot steps.
Phillip: He's drinking?
Alexandra: From what I understand, he's a full-out drunk.
Bill: Hey, you guys didn't tell me you were going to have a meeting today?
Lizzie: Wow, happy hour already?
Bill: Well! Whoa, what are we working on?
Lizzie: When the clients come in and out of this office all day long, and of all days...
Bill: All day, why? What's going-- you got a big meeting today?
Cyrus: Coop Bradshaw just died, and her long lost dad just waltzed back into her life. Ring any bells?
Bill: Um... I'm sorry. I just, um-- I'm just going to do some...
Lizzie: Maybe I should call Billy.
Cyrus: No, no. I'll take care of this. Come on. Let's go.
Bill: I just...
Cyrus: If it wasn't for Lizzie, I'd leave you in the gutter. Why are you doing this to her?
Phillip: So you're saying that Bill has been a problem for Lizzie ever since he got back from Venezuela?
Alexandra: No. Actually, they have had some good moments.
Phillip: Aunt Alex, do you think he kidnapped her?
Alexandra: I don't know! She just seems so unsettled these days. She's so wary of everyone, and that worries me. She's starting to remind me of someone else.
Phillip: You mean Beth? Before her breakdown?
Alexandra: No, darling. I'm talking about you. She is starting to act up the way you did before you decided to separate from your family.
Jeffrey: More cider?
Reva: Oh, yeah, thanks.
Jeffrey: It's okay. You can call Shayne if it makes you feel better.
Reva: Well, if it makes you feel better, it wasn't Shayne I was thinking about.
Jeffrey: Okay. Then call Buzz.
Reva: I know you want this to be a celebration, and you're right, tomorrow being my last chemo session, that is a big deal.
Jeffrey: Yes, it is.
Reva: It's just that when I think about the doctor telling us that I had cancer again, I remember feeling so angry, and like it was so unfair. And then I think about what Buzz is going through... we're the lucky ones.
Josh: Buzz, I... I wanted to say good-bye.
Buzz: Thanks for coming over.
Josh: Is there anything at all that I can do?
Buzz: It's some of Coop's writing, you know.
Josh: Was he working on a new book?
Buzz: Well, my birthday is coming up. And he... he wrote me a toast. "Dad, my best friend."
Reva: Boy, oh, boy, when you decide you want to make something a special occasion, you go all out.
Jeffrey: That's right. Open it.
Reva: That's a little too big a box for jewelry.
Jeffrey: Come on. Come on, open it up. (Laughs)
Reva: What is this?
Jeffrey: It just struck me that tomorrow, that's it, no more chemo. You'll be done with it and on to the next phase. So it's like you're...
Reva: Graduating.
Jeffrey: ...Like you're graduating.
Reva: It is like I'm graduating. And you are too cute.
Jeffrey: Not many people can get away with calling me that. After what happened with Coop, I just, you know, I want to treasure every moment with you, and I don't want to take anything for granted. So... here is to the end of your cancer.
Reva: And here is to all of the important people in our lives, and those that aren't here anymore to meet our beautiful baby.
Bill: Oh!
Cyrus: You're okay, you just had a bad dream.
Bill: Yeah, yeah, I guess it... it's a dream, but it just seems so real.
Cyrus: Yeah, well, it seems real because you've been drinking.
Bill: No. I came home from this factory, and I'm wrestling with the kidnapper. And I knocked him out, and I was getting ready to pull off the ski mask, and then-- and then that's all there was.
Cyrus: Well, that sounds like it was just a dream to me.
Bill: I don't know. Maybe I'm getting my memory back.
Cyrus: You reckon?
Bill: No, you're probably right. It's a dream, wishful...
Cyrus: Yeah, or maybe this.
Cyrus: Grady, it's me. Listen, call me back, will you? We need to talk.
(Knock on the door)
Billy: Hey, got a minute?
Lizzie: Oh, hey. Did security call you?
Billy: No. Why?
Lizzie: Your son has been drinking again.
Billy: Oh, I didn't know.
Lizzie: Just when I think it would be impossible for him to hurt me anymore, he finds a new way.
Billy: Look, I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do?
Lizzie: Yeah, you know there is. Maybe you can get him to leave the company.
Billy: What?
Lizzie: Either that, or I am going to have to find a way to buy him out.
Billy: Oh, no. Hey, Lizzie, wait, wait, you can't do that. This is not...
Lizzie: Billy, what were you going to say?
Billy: Um... his drinking. It's not like my drinking.
Lizzie: So a part-time drunk is better than a full-time drunk?
Billy: Yeah...
Lizzie: You know, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to sound like that. It just came out wrong. This is something that I really think that this is, Billy-- this is just something that you and I can't talk about, okay?
Alexandra: Phillip, aren't you going to saying anything?
Phillip: Well, what do you want me to say, Aunt Alex? You just told me that Lizzie is going crazy.
Alexandra: Not crazy -- I did not say crazy.
Phillip: Well, then what are you saying?
Alexandra: She's spinning out of control. She's going down some dark path. I don't know! And I don't know whether it's me or Alan or you or there should have been signs of this...
Phillip: Yeah, but what you're saying is that you think that is what is happening to Lizzie now?
Alexandra: I don't know.
Phillip: I don't know what to do.
Alexandra: Well, I don't know what to do, either. But we're not going to get the answers sitting in here. I've got to get you out of here and home, where you belong.
Josh: Are you sure there is nothing I can do?
Buzz: Actually, yeah. There is a memorial. Can you speak?
Josh: You know I'm not a minister anymore, right?
Buzz: Yeah, I know that. But you know me and you know Coop, and all of his friends. And people look up to you.
Josh: I appreciate that, but nobody knows Coop better than you.
Buzz: I can't do it. You can.
Josh: Okay. I'd be honored. Take care of yourself.
...Rearranged
no pieces fit like before
all I know is that
life keeps changing
all the times that I
I'll be ready
all I know is that
life keeps changing
all the times that I
I'll be ready.
Coming up on "Guiding Light"...
Josh: We're here today to honor Henry Cooper Bradshaw.
Alan: They still blame our family for all of their miseries.
Frank: There will always be an empty place at the Cooper table, and there will always be an empty place in our hearts.
Lizzie: This was my family's fault.
Alan: Stop right there, Elizabeth.
