Natalia: I'm in Olivia’s room right now. It looks like she was upset.

Jeffrey: So she left in a hurry.

Natalia: But where? She's just starting to get around, you know, it's not like she can't just jump up and take off.

Olivia: I volunteered to chaperone for this day a long time ago, long before any this. I just don't want Emma and her friends to see me like this.

Alan: Yeah, I understand your concern, but you know me well enough to know that I am a finisher, and I have just begun to run. You would not believe all the exciting things that are happening around here. We're moving into an incredible new office space, I put together a fabulous team, and, um... 5:00? Let me see if I can work you in. Yes, yes, I believe I can. I'll see you at 5:00. Lada-dee-da-dum. (Humming)

Rafe: Hey, Buzz, what's the special?

Buzz: Same as always.

Rafe: In that case, I can’t eat it.

Buzz: Same as always. The usual?

Rafe: Yeah, let me get the usual.

Buzz: Healthy man's platter.

Rafe: You've got to change that, dude.

Buzz: To the Raphael Rivera?

Rafe: Oh.

Buzz: What?

Rafe: Nothing. You know what? Forget the special

Buzz: Hey, hey. You want to work it off?

Rafe: I got to do dishes?

Buzz: No, you don't have to do the dishes. I have to figure out who wins the Gus Aitoro scholarship. It's going to be announced at the graduation. And...

Rafe: So?

Buzz: So, you know the students! So... you know, give me some insight.

Rafe: All right, all right, all right.

Buzz: Okay, we've got Greg Hendricks here. He's got great grades.

Rafe: Greg Hendricks? Mmm-mm.

Buzz: Why not? What's the matter with him?

Rafe: The guy's a complete tool. He wears his, like, football eye stuff to the class and everything.

Buzz: Really? Okay. Forget him, Michael Carson?

Rafe: Mike Carson?

Buzz: Oh, he's got lousy grades. Forget about Mike Carson.

Rafe: Maya Poole. (Chuckles)

Buzz: She takes a great picture.

Rafe: Yeah, you know what? The football coach thought so, too.

Buzz: Oh, good-bye Maya Poole. Next.

Alan: (Screams)

Buzz: Oh, no...

Rafe: Alan? Are you all right? Come here, look at me. Can you hear me? Are you all right? Can you hear me? What happed?

Buzz: Call 9-1-1.

Rafe: Look Buzz, I'll stay here.

Buzz: Call 9-1-1.

Rafe: You call 9-1-1.

Buzz: You call 9-1-1 call 9-1-1.

Alan: I think... I think I'm all right, Buzz.

Buzz: Where does it hurt?

Alan: It doesn't hurt.

Buzz: Take it easy.

Alan: I'm telling you, I'm okay.

Buzz: Well, you know that's great, considering...

Alan: Did you see?

Buzz: We heard.

Rafe: Okay, look, the ambulance is on the way, all right?

Alan: I'm not going to need an ambulance.

Buzz: You might have an concussion. Did that. Did the roof hit you?

Alan: I don't know.

Buzz: I don't think it did, because if it did, you'd be dead.

Alan: But I'm not.

Natalia: You paid for the glove now, but I'm going to pay you right back.

Frank: Ah, no worries. It's a... it's a gift.

Natalia: I don't want a gift.

Frank: Well, the gift isn't for you. It's for Rafe.

Natalia: I know, but it's supposed to be from me.

Frank: It is from you.

Natalia: It's not if I didn't pay for it.

Frank: Do you always make things this hard for somebody who wants to do something nice for you?

Natalia: Usually.

Frank: Okay, then, I'll tell you what: The next time I go to buy my daughter some earrings or jewelry or perfume, you can pick it out. All right? That way she won't take it back the way she usually does.

Natalia: Okay. That would be fun. I never get to pick out girlie gifts.

Frank: All right. There you go.

Natalia: Okay. Thank you for helping me pick out the right glove.

Frank: Oh, you're welcome. I just hope Rafe likes it you know.

Natalia: He will.

Frank: I'm sorry Gus wasn't here today to do that with you.

Natalia: He's here. He's smiling at you for helping me out.

I see the world you hear...

I see the world from here

if these moments move too fast find a way to make this last

today...

Beth: Isn't that pretty? Your daddy can be pretty sweet sometimes, can't he? Is the sun in your eyes?

Rick: Hey, beautiful.

Beth: Hey.

Rick: Hey. What are you guys doing? I was just thinking about you.

Beth: Hmmm.

Rick: And... oh, sweetie, I was just thinking about you. She has grown up so fast. You know, they're going to tell you to find a doctor, a nice doctor, but you don't have to look any further, because you just look at your daddy. Okay? No boys.

Beth: We were hoping that we would run into you.

Rick: Well, this must be my lucky day. I just finished a brutal 48-hour marathon, and I'm tired, I'm hungry. How about we go to Cock-A-Doodle-Doo and pick up some chicken and head home?

Beth: We. We just came to get blankie.

Rick: Blankie?

Beth: You know, the pink one, Peyton’s favorite? We left it in your car.

Rick: Okay. Now that we got blankie, let's just... let's just go out and get something to eat.

Beth: We have... we have plans.

Rick: (Chuckles) You have plans? With...

Beth: Well, Alan has a meetings, but afterwards, we promised that we would...

Rick: You know, you would think after losing the cash card, he wouldn't be as good-looking anymore. But I'll tell you what, he still has a way with the ladies.

Beth: You know something? This isn't a good time to get blankie.

Rick: Beth, I'm sorry.

Beth: Maybe we'll do it at another time.

Rick: Beth, I'm sorry. I still.. I still can't get used to the idea that Alan is the father of Peyton. I know that he... I'm sorry.

Beth: Okay. I'll tell you what. I have to go speak to my mother about something. You want a little quality time with Peyton?

Rick: Is there any other thing but quality time? Absolutely, I'd love to. Okay.

Beth: Have fun with.. good ol' Rick.

Alan: Can I go now?

Rafe: A roof fell on your head.

Doctor: There doesn't seem to be any trauma to the skull.

Alan: Look, I told you. I tripped down the stairs and fell and a few seconds later the roof caved in.

Rafe: Doc, he has a history.

Doctor: Not to worry. His heart rate is normal. Any dizziness?

Alan: No, nothing.

Buzz: Can you explain what happened, Alan?

Alan: If I told you, Buzz, you wouldn't believe me.

Frank: Can I drop you off at work?

Natalia: Actually, I'm going to go back to Company.

Frank: Okay, that works. Then I can get a snack. Perfect. (Cell phone rings) Is that Rafe?

Natalia: No, it's Olivia.

Frank: Really?

Natalia: I've helped her a couple of times and now she thinks I'm on call. Hey, what's up? Olivia, are you there?

Olivia: Yeah, I'm here. Look, I'm trying to reach Ava, but she must have her phone turned off.

Natalia: What's the matter? You sound funny. What happened?

Olivia: Just tired. Listen, I wanted to tell you that Emma’s at a sleep-over at Cady Wilson’s house. Her number's on my desk, just in case.

Natalia: In case what?

Olivia: I'm sorry I bothered you.

Natalia: Hello? Olivia?

Frank: Is she all right?

Natalia: I don't know. She's so dramatic sometimes. I never know with her. I'll just check on her when I get back to work.

Frank: Okay. Here you go.

Natalia: Thanks.

Beth: Did Dr. Bauer leave a message for me?

Nurse: No, ma'am. I saw him leaving with your little girl.

Beth: Yeah. I knew he was going to the car, but now the car’s gone.

Nurse: I'll bet he took her for a ride.

Beth: Yes, I just wish he'd told me.

Man: We can bring in a crib if you want.

Rick: Well that sounds... nice. Nice. I'm not sure about how long we're going to stay, though. A family reunion in town. Nobody could make up their minds.

Man: Well, if you need anything, just let me know, Mr. Fisher.

Rick: Thank you. Thank you so much. Well, I wasn't exactly telling a fib here. There you go, sweetie. Come to Daddy. We can stay tonight, okay, then tomorrow, tomorrow we're going to see your Aunt Michelle and my dad... just, you know, far away from Alan, okay? We're going to have a real good time, sweetie, yes, we are. Yeah.

Frank: What the heck happened here? Hope nobody got hurt.

Natalia: Where's Buzz?

Frank: I don't know. Pop! Pop! Are you here? This is crazy. I'm going to try him on the cell phone. Come on, Dad. Come on, Dad, answer. Answer. He's not answering.

Natalia: It just fell.

Frank: I guess so. Listen, if you want to get up to your room, you're going to have to use the other stairs. I really hope nobody got hurt here.

Natalia: I'll never understand it, you know? A couple of loose nails and a wrong turn, and somebody lives and somebody doesn’t.

Frank: Yeah. Are you okay?

Natalia: Yeah, I'm just thinking

Frank: I know

Natalia: That phone call from Olivia. It's really bothering me. It was weird. She just sounded different.

Frank: Well, call her back?

Natalia: That makes her mad sometimes, like I'm baby-sitting Gus' heart.

Frank: Well, you know what? When Dad had his heart attack, you know what? He went through a little depression, so who knows, maybe it's normal.

Natalia: I'm sure it is.

Frank: Natalia, if you're worried about her, call her back.

Natal: Yeah. What do I care if she hates me?

Frank: Exactly. But you know what? I'm going to see if I can find my dad, so I'm going to try to locate him before I get back to the station. Are you going to be okay?

Natalia: Yeah. Thank you so much for helping me pick out the right glove.

Frank: Yeah, no worries. I hope it fits, but do not go up that way.

Buzz: Beth? He's okay.

Beth: Rick?

Buzz: No, Alan. I thought you were here to see Alan. (Cell phone rings) Hey, Frank.

Alan: Are we through? Because I've got people to see, places to go.

Rafe: Not until we know you're okay.

Doctor: You're a lucky man, Mr. Spaulding.

Alan: Lucky, huh?

Doctor: Keep an eye on your granddad.

Rafe: Thank you again. All right, you heard the man. We're out of here. Come on.

Alan: Look, I could walk. It's just across the street.

Rafe: We' going to find Buzz, okay, and we're going to get you out of here. We're going to take you home. And I need some backup.

Alan: Yeah, and I need a witness to prove to your mother that I haven't lured you into the world of corporate greed.

Rafe: We're not worrying about my mother right now. We're worrying about you.

Alan: I'm all right. I told you, I’m fine.

Rafe: You had me worried back there, okay?

Beth: Are you all right? What happened?

Alan: Beth, don't tell me they called you, too. Look, I don't want everyone to get upset over nothing.

Beth: Nothing? From what I heard, you could have been killed.

Rafe: It was like this close.

Alan: Close only counts in horseshoes and elections in Florida.

Rafe: He says he has meetings or something.

Beth: Meetings? Well, we can forget that. We're taking you home.

Alan: Where's Peyton

Beth: She’s... she's here. Or she will be any minute. Are you alright?

Alan: The doctor said I'm going live forever.

Rafe: That's not exactly what he said, no.

Alan: Well, he should’ve said that, because that's the truth.

Beth: I always did believe you had nine lives. Somebody up there must really be looking out for you. Okay, come on, I'll walk you out.

Buzz: We can get to your room by the back stairs.

Alan: There is no rush, Buzz.

Rafe: The doctor said you need to rest, alright?

Alan: You're my grandson, not my mother.

Buzz: You hungry?

Rafe: Me?

Buzz: Yeah, you.

Rafe: Yeah, always.

Buzz: Come on.

(Peyton crying)

Rick: Please stop crying. Here. Mr. Calico, see? This thing makes noises. Bunny, hey. (Peyton crying) Whoa. Please, please stop. Bunny, I'm sorry. Don't you like your little bunny? (Peyton crying) You've been a big help. Oh, sweetie, I didn't like that bunny, either. Yeah, that's what you wanted, right? You didn't like Mr. Bunny. Oh, thank God. Al lright. Listen, I just need a little soda because I'm a little parched from trying to get you to stop crying here for the last hour. So I'm going to... it's just right there, sweetheart. I'm going to be right back. There's no way. You're good, okay I'm going to be right back.

Frank: Rick?

Rick: Hi.

Frank: I thought I heard your voice.

Rick: Frank. Yeah, well, how... what are you doing... how did you know I was here?

Frank: Well, I didn't, actually. We're setting up surveillance down the hall there. But I thought I heard your voice through the door there.

Rick: Yeah, just a patient.

Frank: A patient in there?

Rick: Yeah.

Frank: Dr. Rick making a house-call.

Rick: Well, that's me, big guy. You know, it's the right thing to do. You know, people can't get out of their rooms all of the time, so...

Frank: Do you need any help getting her to Cedars?

Rick: No, no, no, but thanks, Frankie. Thank you. We're fine, I'm fine, everybody's fine. Good seeing you, big guy. I've got to get her some saltines, crackers.

Frank: All right.

Rick: (Sighs)

Buzz: You're not going to sue me, are you?

Alan: I can't afford a lawyer.

Buzz: Good, because I can't afford to pay you.

Alan: But if I could afford a lawyer, I still wouldn't sue you.

Buzz: Gee, can I have that in writing?

Alan: How’s about a handshake?

Buzz: Are you sure that roof didn't hit you just like a wee bit? Huh? Huh?

Alan: I'm fine. What do you say... what do you say we move this thing?

Buzz: Oh, no. The city's going to take care of that.

Alan: The city? The city hasn't finished the Thornton Street bridge in ten years.

Buzz: Well, we'll let Frank and Coop do it.

Alan: No, no, no, no , no. What if somebody came by and got hurt, like a stranger, huh?

Buzz: Are you going to ask me what day it is? And I'm going to tell you it's Christmas, and you're going to send me out to buy turkeys? What's going on.

Alan: Humbug. Come on.

Rafe: Hey, old folks!

Buzz: Excuse me?

Rafe: Do you want to go back to the hospital?

Buzz: Excuse me?

Alan: Look, why don't you get over here and help us or get out of here, one of the two. Come on.

Rafe: All right. One, two, lift! (Laughter) All right. All right.

Natalia: Olivia! (Knocking on the door) Olivia, it's me. What the hell did you do?

Olivia: What? What are you doing? They're mine.

Natalia: Did you take the whole thing?

Olivia: Don't be an idiot.

Natalia: What the hell were you thinking? What about your daughter?

Olivia: Do you honestly think I was trying to...?

Natalia: Get up.

Olivia: No this is...

Natalia: Get up, I said. Get you moving now. I'll take you to the E.R. and get your stomach pumped.

Olivia: Ewe. You're not getting my stomach pumped. Listen to me, I'm trying--

Natalia: Poor girl, life is so hard. It's unfair, it's unfair for everybody. Just go, keep moving.

Olivia: What are you talking about? Listen, I'm trying to... look, I didn't eat, okay? I didn't eat, and I took the pills. I forgot to eat, and so I'm tired, okay.

Natalia: You're tired? I know. You're tired of life, you're tired of living, you're tired of fighting. You know what? Your daughters want you to live.

Olivia: I know!

Natalia: All right now, then move.

Olivia: Will you stop. Just wait. Stop it! I didn't try to kill myself.

Natalia: That bottle is empty.

Olivia: The pills, they fell on the floor earlier. I didn't feel like picking them up. I was waiting for the maid.

Natalia: Okay, and the phone call about Emma, and the just in case...

Olivia: Just in case I fell asleep, not just in case I croaked. All right, I'm sleepy, I'm not suicidal. Don’t turn this into the movie of the week. I just got my chest unzipped, okay? It hurts, so I took a pill. Maybe two. I'm sleepy, okay? That's all, get out.

Natalia: I'm just going to take the rest of these pills.

Olivia: No, just get out.

Natalia: I will leave when I take the rest of those pills. Because you're going to stay alive, whether you like it or not.

Beth: What happened, I hope you had fun.

Rick: I... I kidnapped her.

Beth: Oh, yeah, right and joined the circus, too. Did you go on the Ferris wheel?

Rick: Beth, you really need to get her. You need to take her where ever you need to go, and just... just get her away from me

Buzz: Hey hey, hey, hey, hey. You know, the idea is to clean, not to break.

Rafe: Maybe we should have made him go lie down or rest or something.

Buzz: Alan? Make him? It doesn't work that way.

Rafe: The roof may not have hit him, but something did. I'm telling you he's acting... he's acting weird, man.

Buzz: Yeah, he is acting weird, isn't he? I kind of prefer this one to the old one.

Rafe: Look, I'm sorry.

Buzz: Look, I'll clean... I'll clear it. Come over here and help me with the applications.

Rafe: All right.

Buzz: This one is... this one is Michael Carson. 2.2 average... no, no, we nixed him.

Rafe: Actually, I've been thinking.

Buzz: What? Should I worry?

Rafe: Ha, ha, that's funny. No. (Laughs) That was funny. No, it was like... it was like right after... right before Christmas break, and I was in Math class, Mr. Bick, my Math teacher. And he was up at the board, an out of nowhere, he just like... bam, he plopped down face first, you know.

Buzz: He died?

Re: No, he didn't die. He had a heart attack.

Buzz: You guys must have been scared.

Rafe: Yes. We froze at our desks. It was like, I don't know what to do. I was waiting for the guy to jump back up or something. And Mike just flies out of his desk, flies out of his chair, and starts pounding on Mr. Bick's chest, you know, like C.P.R. and the whole deal...

Buzz: Did it work?

Rafe: Bick is still handing out C's.

Buzz: He gave a "C" to Mike Carson, the guy that saved him?

Rafe: What I'm trying to say is. When it came down to it, Mike was the only one that got out of his seat. He was the only one that moved, that did something.

Buzz: Okay then. One of those guys that surprises you, like somebody else I know. So I'm thinking Mike Carson goes to the top of the pile.

Rafe: Agreed. agreed.

Olivia: Go on. Who asked you to be here?

Natalia: Well, no one

Olivia: Well, then there you go. So if you don't mind, I've got things to do.

Natalia: Yeah, like what?

Olivia: Like... why are you smiling? What is that? Is that reverse psychology? Is that what that is?

Natalia: Is it working?

Olivia: Not so much. Listen, I don't need a nanny or a nurse or you, okay?

Alan: Ladies.

Olivia: Fabulous.

Natalia: Oh, that's good. Good timing, because maybe you can talk some sense into... What's wrong?

Alan: You remember in the "Wizard Of Oz," when the house fell on the wicked witch? Yeah, almost happened to me. But wasn't a house. It was just a section of the roof.

Natalia: At Company. I know, I saw that.

Alan: I was... I was coming down the stairs, and I fell, and it missed me by inches.

Natalia: Have you seen a doctor?

Alan: Yeah. He said I was lucky to be alive.

Olivia: They love to say that.

Alan: But it wasn’t luck. What happened... it goes against everything I've ever thought.

Olivia: Like voting for a democrat?

Alan: Look, I... I don't blame you for doubting this. I doubt it myself. But you're the only two people I could tell who wouldn't think I'm crazy. And I want you to convince me that I'm not.

Natalia: Go ahead.

Olivia: Don't encourage him.

Alan: Olivia, if I'm crazy, you'll know.

Natalia: Don't just dismiss this. Let him talk. So you were in an accident, and maybe you hit your head...

Alan: No, no, no. It wasn't an accident.

Olivia: All right. I'm lost.

Natalia: We're trying to understand, you know, what...

Alan: Look, I couldn't tell Rafe or Buzz or the doctor, but... but...

Natalia: But what?

Alan: This is what happened. I was on my way to a meeting, an important meeting and I was walking down the stairs...

Olivia: And you tripped and fell. We got it.

Alan: No, I didn't trip. Someone grabbed my leg, and I tripped down the stairs.

Natalia: So you think someone was behind you.

Olivia: Or somebody left something on the stairs?

Alan: No. Nothing. There was nothing. Someone grabbed my leg. A hand. I fell down the stairs, and if I hadn't fallen then, the roof would have crushed me. And this is the crazy part: I think I know who's hand it was.

Natalia: Gus?

Alan: You've seen him

Olivia: All right, stop. Really, stop it, okay, you guys want to go do a séance or make a call on Ouija board, but do it somewhere else.

Alan: It was Gus. He touched my shoulder, and he started talking to me.

Olivia: Alan, understand this: Gus is dead.

Alan: He wanted to assure me that everything was going to be all right. But he needed something. He wanted something more.

Olivia: No, listen. You guys never said two civil words to each other when he was here, on this planet, okay? He's not going to come back from the dead to talk to you.

Alan: He was there to reassure me, he told me that everything was going to be all right. He wanted something. He needed something.

Olivia: Gus is dead!

Alan: He said he's coming back. He has more to tell us.

Olivia: No, Alan. You can't buy this. You can't be buying this.

Alan: I think he had some unfinished business.

Olivia: No, Gus is dead. Okay? You can smell his after shave all you want, that doesn't mean he's coming back!

Alan: Well, how does that explain what happened to me?

Olivia: It doesn’t explain anything, okay? Just know that the last piece of us exists in here. Get out!

Alan: All right, I'll get out. But that's not going to change what I saw and what I heard.

Natalia: What if...

Olivia: No. No. Go!

Natalia: You don't even need any painkillers because where it counts, where it really counts, you can't feel a thing.

Olivia: Shut the door on your way out! Thank you!

Beth: Rick. You brought her here? What were you thinking?

Rick: That's the problem, Beth. I wasn't thinking. I just... I haven't slept ... I just kept thinking that Alan is the real father. That Alan won and I lost. And that Alan is going to holding you and our child, and I just couldn't live with that.

Beth: Rick, I know that you hate Alan. I know that you do.

Rick: And the truth is, Beth, I've been consumed with trying to destroy his life, so I became him. That's why you turned away from me.

Beth: Rick.

Rick: No, but you know what, Beth? The most important thing is that Peyton knows... she knows I'm not her father. She's never been comfortable with me. That's why she was crying here because she knows she doesn't belong here.

Beth: You don't belong here either.

Rick: I know, and it took Peyton to make me realize who I am, and that I made a mistake, and I'm sorry. On a different subject: In six weeks, it's the Bauer barbecue, don't worry, I'm not going to sing. I'm not going to sing. But it's been our one year anniversary. I am going to make this the best barbecue that I have ever had.

Beth: You know that I can't promise...

Rick: And I can't... no, no, no. I can't make any promises that the burgers are going to be as good as last years, okay? I mean, that's a very darn good burger, right? Beth, I'm going to stop chasing you. So you don't have to worry about that anymore. I just need to focus on being a good doctor to my patients, and just being a better man again, and trying to figure out, really, what that special recipe for that burger is. Because, you know, with me, it's all about the burgers, right? So all I'm asking-- look at me. So all I'm asking is that you give it some thought, and think about coming and joining me for the party.

(Cell phone rings)

Olivia: Hi, is this Barry's Books? Do you deliver? Great. I need some books, and I thought maybe you could help.

Coming up on "Guiding Light"

Alan: I had another dream. (Screams) What does 512 mean to you?

Rafe: That's the amount of homeruns the Ernie Banks did. I counted it seven times. That's 512 $20 bills exactly.
