Darren: Daddy!

Mallet: Hey. You are the best.

Darren: Daddy! Daddy!

Dinah: Hey.

Mallet: Oh. Hey.

Dinah: What are you doing out here?

Mallet: I don't know. I was... there was this crow and I wanted to strangle it because it woke me up this morning. So I guess you... you ended up saving a bird life.

Dinah: (Laughs) Well, better a bird than me, huh?

Mallet: Yeah. Oh, man, I've got to get to work.

Dinah: Well I thought that Frank gave you the week off.

Mallet: Well, he needed me, so...

Dinah: I had a bunch of stuff planned, all kinds of stuff.

Mallet: I'm sorry, babe, there's a lot of bad guys out there. Okay?

Technician: Can I help you?

Reva: Oh... yeah. No, actually. You know, it's the strangest... the door was open and I just kind of wandered in. This is an amazing lab... is that? There's no eyeballs. There's no brains in jars. (Laughs)

Technician: The door is never... you're the cancer lady. I mean, the one raising the money.

Reva: Yes, I am. Hi. Reva Shayne. And I am doing some fund-raising, when I'm not obsessing about my own test results, you know? I just... I've been cancer free for at least eight months, at least that's what they tell me, but I have to say every time I have tests done I can't help wondering whether or not...

Technician: You wonder whether we screwed up the results. That's actually quite normal. But this is state-of-the-art, and every test here is checked and double checked.

Reva: So I don't have to worry about it being wrong or somebody tampering with it or changing it in any way?

Technician: The computer keeps a log of every keystroke and no one is allowed in here without an authorized lab pass. Well, except for you.

Reva: (Laughs) Yeah, well...

Cassie: I'm still not even sure how that happened. I mean, one second I was standing there about to throw your ring, and then the next I was under.

Josh: You must have been scared.

Cassie: I wasn't scared. I was just... there. It was actually kind of beautiful. It was kind of peaceful.

Josh: Peaceful?

Cassie: Yeah. I felt like... I kind of felt like I was surrounded by Tammy. I felt like I could just feel her so close to me and so I thought, "Wow, this is it. This isn't so bad. Soon I'll be able to wrap my arms around my little girl again." So I just kind of let myself sink. I just kind of resigned to it and embraced it, really. And then all of a sudden out of nowhere I saw you. I saw you and R.J. so clearly right there in front of me. As clear as you're sitting here with me now. Mallet may have saved my life, but you are the reason that I'm alive.

Josh: I can't help but think that I'm the reason that you went into the water in the first place. I should have told you about Reva. I was waiting for the right time, the right place.

Cassie: You hurt me. Whether you told me now or right after it happened, you hurt me. And humiliated me and made me doubt everything. And I didn't deserve it.

Josh: No, you didn't. I made a mistake.

Cassie: Well, one thing I figured out is that we are not the sum of our mistakes. One action does not make us who we are.

Reva: Yeah, I... I know I shouldn't be here so...

Technician: And if your doctor says you're in remission, you are. Okay, whoa. Are you okay?

Reva: Whoo. I'm just feeling a little faint. Yeah... ooh, I'm seeing stars. Whoo.

Technician: I'll... I'll get a doctor.

Reva: No, no, no, just water. A glass of water would be great.

Technician: Okay, be right back.

Reva: Thanks. Search database. Name. Mother, search. Okay, Cassie, let's see. Were you in here? The alleged father, Rick Bauer, cannot be excluded as the biological father based on the genetic testing results, the probability of the paternity is 99.99%. Okay.

Technician: Got your water.

Reva: Oh, boy, oh boy, you're a... you're a lifesaver. And darn cute. Thank you.

Technician: Better?

Reva: Yes, I am. Thank you. The one thing they don't tell you about cancer is that it makes you just a little bit paranoid. Which, as a matter of fact, you know, I've got a mole here right... see that one right there? Can you tell me? Does that look suspicious?

Technician: I'm not a doctor.

Reva: Well, I know, I know, but you're a lab technician. Oh, you know what? I even have one over here. This one really scares me. They say it's mole and six weeks later they're gone.

Technician: Stop, don't do that. I examine slides, not a...

Reva: Well, I know that, but you're a scientist. So it's no big deal. If you want to feel if it's scabby or...

Technician: Look, look, you're not even supposed to be in here, all right? If you're caught on the security cameras, they could be asking questions.

Reva: Security cameras?

Technician: There.

Reva: Is it on now?

Technician: Day and night. Look, you really should be going.

Reva: I know. Of course, of course. I'm really so sorry. Cameras. (Laughs) Go figure.

Josh: Cassie, I want to make something clear, okay? I know that words are not going to make this right because there was nothing right about what I did to you. My purpose on this earth should be and is to protect you, and I failed miserably. I'm sorry. I'm going to do everything I can to make it up to you. I'm thankful for this. That you're here, that you're giving me another chance. I love you.

Cassie: I love you, too. You are my anchor, Josh. Without you, I'm somebody else. You help me to forgive and not be so...

Josh: So what?

Cassie: Nothing. I just... I want to heal. I really want to heal. I want to heal from losing Tammy, I want to heal from you and Reva. And I want us to heal together, because we have not come through all this just to end up apart.

Josh: No, we haven't.

Cassie: And I want to be able to forgive you. I know how much you love Reva. I love Reva, too. But I kind of sometimes wish she were just some babe you picked up in a bar.

Josh: We are going to find our way back.

Cassie: We have to. Oh, my God. What... I... I promised Mrs. Chitwood I'd be back, like, an hour ago. Where's... do you want to come with me?

Josh: No, actually, I don't. I'm sorry. There's some things that I have to do right now. This fresh start, I want it to... I want it to begin now. So...

Cassie: So do I.

Josh: I'll see you later.

Cassie: Okay.

Dinah: Where is it? Under the bed, just like I thought.

Matt: You feeling all right?

Mallet: Yeah. No, I'm fine. I just... I haven't been sleeping well.

Matt: Yeah, you look like you haven't slept in a week. Why don't you let me buy you some lunch?

Mallet: I can't, I'm due at the station.

Matt: You know, Mallet, maybe you ought to call in sick today. You look a little... you look a little edgy.

Mallet: I've got to do my job, man. I mean, you know, I'm a cop. If I'm not a cop, then I'm...

Matt: What? You're a what?

Josh: Hey, doesn't anybody work in this town?

Matt: Hey, Josh, just in time for some lunch.

Josh: Hey Mallet. No, thank you, but I can't. I have plans with Cassie.

Mallet: So you saw her?

Josh: Yeah, I did. I saw her and she forgave me.

Matt: Well, I didn't know you needed any forgiving.

Josh: I'll have to fill you in on the details a little later. I've got a lot of work to do. Cassie and I... she doesn't know it yet, but we're getting married tonight.

Matt: Is she pregnant?

Josh: (Laughs) No, she's not... no, no, no. I just... I want to show her that I'm committed. That's all.

Matt: All right, you need some help?

Josh: All I can get, yeah.

Matt: Okay, good. Maybe Cassie will rub off on Vanessa and I can get a little forgiveness.

Josh: Come on, that woman loves you.

Matt: Yeah, well let her know that when you see her.

Josh: Hey.

Mallet: Hey, congratulations.

Josh: Thank you. I understand you're the guy that pulled Cassie out of the water. I don't even know how to thank you for that.

Mallet: Saving people is my job.

Josh: Well, maybe so, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve a little recognition.

Mallet: Yeah. I've got to go to work. Congratulations again.

Josh: Thank you.

Dinah: Enough of this. (Cell phone ringing)

Mallet: Hey, babe, what's up?

Dinah: Where are you?

Mallet: I'm... I'm just at my desk doing a little paperwork.

Dinah: No, you're not.

Mallet: Actually, I'm on a case I can't talk about.

Dinah: A case even Frank doesn't know about? He just called and said that you didn't show up to work.

Mallet: Yeah, you know... look, Dinah.

Dinah: Just come home. I need to talk to you. Now.

Matt: You slept with Reva and Cassie took you back. What's your secret?

Josh: We love each other.

Matt: You and Cassie or you and Reva?

Josh: (Laughs) Cassie... Cassie realized that what we have together is stronger than any mistake I can possibly make.

Matt: Well, I wouldn't call that necessarily a mistake. I mean, that's decades of history. That's Reva.

Josh: I know that. Look, I hurt Cassie, I have a lot to make up for, but we both believe that the best way to heal is for us to cling to each other and move forward.

Matt: Could you sprinkle a little of that fairy dust on Vanessa?

Josh: (Laughs) Have you two just sat down and talked?

Matt: She doesn't want to talk to me.

Josh: Well, she's angry now, but she'll soften up.

Matt: Well, I screwed up about as well as a man can.

Josh: As much as me?

Matt: Good point.

Josh: You see? Cassie forgive me, so there's hope for you and Vanessa. You just have to be patient, my friend.

(Knock on door)

Cassie: Josh, you don't have to knock.

Reva: Good. You're home.

Cassie: What are you doing here?

Reva: What are you doing period? You want to tell me why you snuck into the lab at Cedar's and changed the paternity tests? You made Alan and Beth think that baby was Rick's, didn't you?

Mallet: Dinah? Dinah?

Dinah: This is just going to keep getting worse, isn't it?

Mallet: Where did you find that?

Dinah: You know where I found it. You put it there. The question is why. What is it for?

Mallet: Protection.

Dinah: Don't you lie to me. Don't. This secret is going to keep eating away at you until what? Until you can't work anymore? Until you beat the crap out of some guy who walks up behind you?

Mallet: What are you talking about?

Dinah: What I'm talking about is you don't even realize how you act when we go out. You're waiting for someone to catch you by surprise, like a knife in your back.

Mallet: I'm a cop! I'm always on guard!

Dinah: Oh, please, not like this. Not like this, and whatever's going on with you. I don't even know the man that I married.

Mallet: You know what? Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm not the man that you married!

Dinah: I know the man that I married. I know him. He is a kind man. He is a loving, funny, amazing man who saved me from throwing my life away.

Mallet: Maybe that's the man I wanted to show you. Maybe that's the man I wanted to be. Maybe I've got another side, a side that you don't know. Maybe I'm a man that's capable...

Dinah: What? Of what? Because I saw that file, Mallet, I saw that file and it made you out to be...

Mallet: What, a killer?

Dinah: Yeah. So is that what you were? Did you kill someone? Did you shoot someone? Did you watch somebody die? Probably because you had to? You had no other choice? You probably hated yourself the minute you did it?

Mallet: Yeah, you don't understand. I didn't have to make a choice. It was a job, okay? I had a job that made me do some really ugly things. Until finally I shot someone. I shot someone who hadn't even done anything to me. I shot someone who was a father to a kid that needed him. A kid that I knew, a kid that I liked. But you know what I felt after squeezed the trigger and blew that guy away?

Dinah: No.

Mallet: I didn't feel any shame. I wasn't horrified, I didn't even feel sorry. I felt, like, powerful. I felt powerful, it's like I was on top of the world. It's like I could do it 100 more times.

Josh: Hey.

Reverend Ruthledge: Did I hear something about wedding?

Josh: (Laughs) Just the man I was about to call. How would you like to join me and Cassie in holy matrimony?

Reverend Ruthledge: So I take it that this means you've settled your differences?

Matt: I'm going to go check on Buzz. Reverend.

Josh: She disappeared for a little while, but she's come back now and she wants to have a future together, and I want to start that future together tonight.

Reverend Ruthledge: Tonight?

Josh: Yeah. Is there a problem?

Reverend Ruthledge: Well, I... (laughter) You feel like you need to earn Cassie's forgiveness and make things right, but tonight?

Josh: Okay, Cassie was depending on me and I... I let her down. I hurt her with the one thing that I think she probably fears the most: Reva. I've got to make things up to her.

Reverend Ruthledge: Josh, you've had a difficult year. I mean, Reva's cancer, losing Tammy, being sent to prison. I mean, you've had a lot to deal with.

Josh: You think this is impulsive, that I haven't really thought it through? Look, I had a lot of time in that prison, hours and hours and hours. And I thought about one thing: Cassie. And she's come back to me.

Reverend Ruthledge: I'm very happy for you.

Josh: She's offered me a second chance, Stephen. I want to take it. And then later after we're married, I can focus on my calling, on my faith.

Reverend Ruthledge: You do have faith.

Josh: I have to.

Reva: I took this from the security camera inside the lab.

Cassie: I don't need to watch it.

Reva: The lab guy says the computer keeps a log of every keystroke.

Cassie: So?

Reva: I watched it, Cassie, and I saw you standing over the computer talking to yourself. Only you weren't talking to yourself. You were talking to Tammy. You're seeing her again.

Cassie: Tammy will always be with me.

Reva: I know that, honey, in your heart, but she's gone. You know that, she's dead and now you're using her to do these things that you know are wrong.

Cassie: No, this is not wrong and I'm not ashamed of it. I would do it again. I would do it 20 times over.

Reva: Cassie, honey, I know you're grieving, I know you do, but you have to see how big this is. You're changing people's lives, you're playing God, not to mention breaking the law.

Cassie: You are lecturing me about playing God?

Reva: This is a baby's life.

Cassie: Beth's baby will be better off with Rick, and you know it.

Reva: That's not the point.

Cassie: I will not let Alan hurt another child. He took mine, he took yours, he took Sarah. I have saved a child, Reva. You should be thanking me.

Reva: This is not about saving a child, honey, this is about revenge. This is about punishing Alan for what he's done.

Cassie: And? And if it is, am I not entitled? Does he not deserve it?

Reva: Of course, but it's not up to you. It's not your choice to make.

Cassie: This isn't about... this isn't about Alan. You don't care about Alan, you don't care about the paternity test, you don't even care about the baby. Let's just stop pretending: This is about you and me and Josh. So what made you look for this, Reva? Are you following me? Trying to find some way to make me look really bad to Josh?

Reva: The lab pass fell out of your purse, I saw it on the ground.

Cassie: Oh, right. And you just had to investigate.

Reva: Cassie, I'm worried about you. You must know what you're doing here. It's criminal. You could end up in jail.

Cassie: I'm not worried about me.

Reva: What about Josh? How do you think it's going to look for him? What about his future? He wants to be a minister.

Cassie: And I bet you cannot wait to tell him, can you? 'Cause you knew we'd be on the ropes after you slept with him, and now you can't wait to deliver the knockout punch.

Reva: If that's what I wanted I would have gone straight to Josh, I never would have come here first.

Cassie: All right. Something... I saw Alan's name on the paternity test and something told me I couldn't let it stand. I couldn't let him have that.

Reva: So you typed in Rick's name?

Cassie: Yes.

Reva: You think that's justice?

Cassie: Justice? Justice put Tammy in the grave. It put Josh behind bars. And what about Alan? Alan gets this soft, sweet-smelling, precious little girl to hold. No, justice doesn't exist unless we make it ourselves. And don't look at me like that. I know you understand, because this is the very thing... this is the kind of thing you would do yourself.

Reva: Yes, I do understand, but...

Cassie: Alan doesn't deserve this baby! And this baby deserves a hell of a lot more than the Spaulding's. I mean, really, would you want them to raise Sarah? Would you?

Reva: No. No, never. I'd do anything to protect...

Cassie: Protect your family.

Reva: But Alan's baby isn't family, Cassie.

Cassie: Alan doesn't have a baby. Alan doesn't have a baby, does he?

Reva: Cassie...

Cassie: Does he?

Reva: No.

Cassie: Thank you. And Rick will love that baby the way we all love Tammy and Jonathan and Sarah. It will be like their deaths have meaning.

Reva: I hope you're right.

Cassie: And you won't tell anyone about what I did? This will be our secret until we both die?

Reva: You forgave Josh, didn't you?

Cassie: Yes, I took him back.

Mallet: You know, when you called earlier I was down at the lake trying to decide whether I should throw my badge in or throw myself in.

Dinah: I thought you said that...

Mallet: I did. I felt good, on a high, and powerful after I squeezed the trigger. Until...

Dinah: Until what?

Mallet: Until I saw Darren leaning over his daddy's body, and then it was... it was very real. And I wasn't on a fire escape squeezing the trigger anymore. It was somebody's life. I'd taken someone's life. You have to pay a price when you do that.

Dinah: What was your price?

Mallet: Hating myself. Man, I just put it behind me by blocking it out.

Dinah: The police work?

Mallet: Yeah, I thought I put it to rest. I spent years, years trying to make up for it. And I thought it worked.

Dinah: Honey, you're a wonderful man. Everybody knows that.

Mallet: Being a cop and being a warden and putting bad guys away does not make up for taking someone's life. I'm going to take a shower.

Dinah: Listen to me. Listen to me. You know, I... I shot Hart, and I don't talk about that because it's too painful to talk about. But I shot someone, I shot a man that I loved. I wasn't even aiming for him, I was aiming for Cassie. And she's such a good person. She's such a good person, Mallet, and I'm sure people think that what I did makes me a bad person. But I have to think and I have to believe I can change. And I have to believe we both can change and that it's a possibility and that it's worth it. It's worth a try.

Mallet: Yeah. I love you.

Dinah: I love you.

Mallet: Is this going to change us?

Dinah: Yeah.

Mallet: But you still think you love me?

Dinah: I love you more because of what's changed, because things are different.

Mallet: You know any other woman...

Dinah: I'm not any other woman.

Mallet: That's for sure.

Dinah: (Laughs) You know, we don't have to talk about anything, unless you need to.

Mallet: You know what? Why don't I go out and get that barbecue that you love and I'll bring it back here. We'll sit in bed and eat it like a picnic.

Dinah: I love it. Mallet?

Mallet: Yeah?

Dinah: Ribs and chicken and a little of those potato things that seem like French fries. And some apple pie and a chocolate chip cookie and strawberry milk shake. And two if you're going to drink part of mine.

Mallet: I'll be back. I love you. Stay in bed.

Dinah: I will.

Griggs: Hello, Tony. It's been a while.

Cassie: Josh and I are still engaged and we're still getting married.

Reva: He apologized and you accepted it.

Cassie: I hate that he turned to you in prison, but I kind of get it. I mean, if I were alone in there and about to go into solitary and Jeffrey...

Reva: Oh, please don't compare you and Jeffrey to the history that Josh and I have.

Cassie: Oh, good God, okay. Reva, I know. I know you hoped that Josh would come running back to you because he always has before. I'm sorry, but it's different this time.

Reva: I never wanted to hurt you, Cassie.

Cassie: And I take no pleasure in seeing you hurt either. You're my sister.

Reva: I pushed the two of you together when I thought I was dying because I didn't want you to be alone, and if I died and was looking down this would all feel right.

Cassie: It is right, Reva. Josh and I have something real. We give each other what we need.

Reva: He gives you what you need and you make him feel strong and protective. But when he's being honest with himself...

Cassie: He loves me.

Reva: Yes, I believe he does in a certain way. But not the way he loves me. It will never be like that.

Cassie: You should go.

Reva: Nothing will ever keep us apart, not if it's meant to be. Somehow we'll be thrown together, and I'd just hate to see it happen after you've married him.

Cassie: Okay, that's enough.

Reva: No, you don't want to hear this because you know it's the truth. So it was one night. We both know it was more than that.

Cassie: I really... Josh is going to be here. I don't want him to have to deal with this.

Reva: He'll deal with it. Sooner or later. Josh and I have unfinished business. Always and forever.

Cassie: It's all going to be okay. Josh will handle Reva. Yes, I know how long they were together, but he loves me now. Why would I do that? No, honey, that's a really bad idea.

Josh: Flowers for my girl.

Cassie: Calla lilies.

Josh: And I'm sorry that I was late. I... I've been a little busy planning a surprise for you.

Cassie: What? It took you all day to buy me flowers?

Josh: The flowers aren't the surprise. Cassie. Now that you've taken me back, now that you've given me a second chance, I don't want a week to go buy without showing you how much I love you. Marry me tonight. Second thoughts?

Cassie: No, no.

Josh: Do you mind if I get up off my knees?

Cassie: No.

Josh: Thank you. What do you say?

Cassie: Wow. I want to marry you more than anything in the world. But I need you to do something for me. I need to ask a favor.

Josh: Anything.

Cassie: Spend the night with Reva.
