Reva: Joshua, I know what happened between us was sudden and unexpected. Josh, I know what... what we did shouldn't have happened. It meant something to both us, though, Bud. And I know that things could get very messy.
Josh: Well, that's fine with me, because I like things messy.
Reva: Joshua...
Josh: Reva, I don't know what you were about to say, but I know that look on your face, and I know what you're feeling because I'm feeling the same thing.
Reva: You mean...
Josh: I mean that I didn't realize how much I missed you until they put me away in this prison and locked me up. But I feel like I've been given another chance, Reva, with you.
Reva: After we made love, you said...
Josh: I know what I said, but I thought I was looking at 15 years, Reva. I was trying to protect you from the ugliness of this place. But now that I'm free... everything's different. I'm not going to blow this second chance.
Reva: Josh, do you mean... just tell him the truth. Just tell him how you feel.
Cassie: Josh!
Josh: Hey! ( Laughs )
Josh: Wow! Wow, I wasn't expecting a reception committee.
Cassie: Reva, I didn't know you were coming. Why didn't you call me?
Reva: Well, it was last minute. I heard from Jeffrey, and here I am. ( Laughs )
Cassie: Well, here we all are. And you are about to walk out the door.
Josh: Yeah. Yes. Thank God. So, why don't we get out of here? Because you know what, I would like to eat some normal food. That would be a great thing.
Cassie: Yes. I have got that all planned.
Josh: Yes, so I hear. So I hear. So let's call Billy and let's pick up R.J. wherever he is.
Cassie: Okay. Yeah, everybody should be there.
Reva: No, really. You two go ahead. We'll have plenty of time.
Cell guard: One last thing to sign. You're a free man, Lewis.
Josh: Okay. All right. Just a second, I'll be right back, okay?
Reva: It will be really nice to have you back with the free, Joshua.
Josh: Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
Cassie: Hey, you're not going anywhere until I thank you.
Reva: For what?
Cassie: Just for being there, for doing whatever we needed whenever we needed it.
Reva: I thought maybe you might still be mad at me.
Cassie: Well, I... I got a little upset, I know, about the whole visits thing, but I was just out of my mind. And I realize that you being here for Josh is what was best for him and for all of us. And so I know it couldn't have been easy for you, and I just want to thank you. I really want to thank you.
Reva: Okay. Congratulations, Joshua.
Josh: Hey! Come here! How you doing, huh? Come here, come here, come here. Ahh! Boy, I didn't think I'd ever be able to do that again because if I had stayed away for too long, you would have grown up and been too big for me to pick up. So there you have it.
R.J.: I could pick you up.
Josh: You already have. Come here, come here, come here, come here. ( Laughs ) So...
Mrs. Chitwood: Welcome home, Josh.
Josh: Thank you so much, Mrs. Chitwood. Thank you.
Mrs. Chitwood: I knew you didn't do it, not that the man didn't deserve it.
Josh: ( Laughs ) Thank you.
R.J.: I made you a card, and I found your tackle box and organized all your lures.
Cassie: Yes. He's been doing a lot of welcome home prep.
Josh: Wow!
R.J.: It's so good to have you back, Uncle Josh. But I just still don't understand why they took you away in the first place.
Josh: You know what? It doesn't matter. Who knows, maybe I had to go away so that coming back here and being with you now would feel as great as it does. Come here. You, too, come here. ( Laughter )
Reva: ( Sobbing )
Josh: Yes, yes, I love the use of color here, especially the blue of the sky, the mixture of media, the crayon and the marker. It's brilliant, it's simply brilliant.
R.J.: You really think so?
Josh: I do! We're going to frame it. We're going to put it up.
Cassie: Oh, and I have the perfect frame for it.
Josh: Ah! I just have one question, though: Did you forget my name? Because you left this sort of odd little square thing here.
R.J.: Well, I was wondering if... if it would be okay if I wrote "Dad"?
Josh: Oh, sure, yeah. Here, you want me to do it?
R.J.: Okay.
Josh: Okay." Dad." How's that?
R.J.: Thanks, Dad.
Josh: Thank you... son.
R.J.: And I made you this super special dessert that the waitress promised to help me with.
Josh: Wow, a special dessert in my honor? That does... that sounds wonderful.
Cassie: Yeah. But, honey, I think maybe we should get some real food in you first.
Josh: No, no, no. You know what? I think it sounds great.
R.J.: So I can make it?
Josh: Yeah, absolutely. ( Laughs )
Cassie: He told me what it is, and it's kind of scary-- even after prison food. ( Laughs )
Josh: He wants to call me dad.
Cassie: And it's more than just calling you that.
Josh: I know.
Cassie: He's been holding his breath, you know, hoping that you'd feel the same way.
Josh: I don't think I ever want to have to say no to him again.
Cassie: Well, I'd like to see how long that lasts because he has a million and one things that he wants you to do with him. Everything that includes every possible ball and two-wheeled object, and swimming and jumping and digging...
Josh: Okay. Digging, really?
Cassie: ...Running. Yeah, digging, because there needs to be an escape route from the fort that you'll be building with him, which is, of course, connected to the tree house that you'll be building with him.
Josh: Is there any chance at all that we're going to have some alone time?
Cassie: Your nights belong to me.
Josh: That sounds wonderful. How are you doing?
Cassie: I'm great. I'm glad you're here.
Josh: I mean really. How are you doing?
Cassie: I'm great. I love you, okay? And there's only so many times I'm going to let you see me cry today, so I'm going to go check on R.J., all right? Welcome home.
Reva: I am so, so much better than this. Hey, Marah! Hi, sweetie. Guess what? I have got the greatest news about your daddy.
Reverend Rutledge: Fresh air. It's a beautiful thing.
Josh: Hey, Reverend Rutledge, it's good to see you.
Reverend Rutledge: It's good to see you a free man, Joshua.
Josh: Yeah, I kind of like it myself.
Reverend Rutledge: I can't tell you how happy I was to hear the news.
Josh: Thank you, I appreciate that. I... I feel like I owe you an apology. You definitely saw me at my worst.
Reverend Rutledge: Yeah, well, that's a bit of an occupational hazard.
Josh: I'm sure that it is, but either way, I'm embarrassed, you know, to think that...
Reverend Rutledge: Well, don't think. You're here now.
Josh: What you said to me in there, it... it meant a lot. I thought I was starting to lose my faith and that I would never get it back.
Reverend Rutledge: Is it back?
Josh: Thanks to you, yeah.
Reverend Rutledge: Well, I can't take full credit. I had some help from the usual source, and so did you.
Josh: Yeah, well, I feel that. I do.
Reverend Rutledge: You know, you prayed for a second chance, and you got one. Don't waste it.
Josh: That's a little broad. Do you have something a little more specific? ( Laughs )
Reverend Rutledge: Well, when you walk out of a place like you walked out of, everything seems new again. You can make any choice, go in any direction. But when the time comes, I know you'll make the right choice.
Cassie: Reverend, hi. It's so nice to see you.
Reverend Rutledge: Congratulations, Cassie. How are you?
Cassie: Well, thank you. I'm much better-much-- now that Josh is home.
Josh: I was just telling the good Reverend... I was thanking him for some kind words he said to me while I was away.
Cassie: Oh! Well, I don't think it's a coincidence that we ran into you. Um, I know Josh told you that we're planning a wedding, and we're wondering if maybe you'd like to officiate?
Josh: We haven't actually set a date yet.
Reverend Rutledge: Well, I'd be honored, whenever you do decide.
Josh: Well, you know, I just got out of prison, so I haven't really been able to think too much about...
Reverend Rutledge: No need to explain.
Josh: I just want to make sure that... especially with the big things, I take things one day at a time.
Cassie: Of course. Absolutely. It doesn't matter to me when we get married, just so long as it happens.
Reva: I'm sure he's going to call you, Marah, as soon as he gets home. Honey, I already told you it was just me and your Aunt Cassie. Don't start, Marah, please, honey. Don't start in with that. How could you know anything? You're living in another country. All that we can be happy about is the fact that Josh dealt with his challenges and he faced them and he won. Which, you know, make us all winners. Let it go, Marah. Please, honey, let it go.
Bellhop: I'm sorry, Ms. Winslow. Mr. Lewis has a message.
Cassie: Oh, that's all right. Nothing can spoil my mood tonight.
Josh: Oh, my. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. Come here.
Cassie: Well, aren't you even going to read it?
Josh: Later.
Cassie: What if it's important?
Josh: It will be important later, too.
Cassie: Um, Josh...
Josh: Come on, now. You really actually want me to stop kissing you right now because of a piece of paper? We're here, we're alone for the first time in about a hundred years, and you know what I really would like to do right now?
Cassie: No, what's that? See who this is from? Yeah, I thought so. It's from Billy.
Josh: I don't care.
Cassie: He needs your help with something.
Josh: I'll call him tomorrow.
Cassie: He's right down the hall.
Josh: Uh-huh. You trying to get rid of me?
Cassie: Absolutely not.
Josh: Then why do you want me to hang out with my big brother?
Cassie: Because I've waited this long. I really don't think that waiting a couple more minutes is going to make that much of a difference.
Josh: ( Laughs ) Since when has it ever taken Billy a couple minutes to do anything?
Cassie: He's your brother. He loves you. He wants to see you.
Josh: You love me and you want to see me.
Cassie: Okay, would you just give me a couple minutes so I can make myself pretty for you?
Josh: Okay.
Cassie: Thank you.
Josh: For the record, I think you look very pretty already. I'll be back. ( Laughs )
Cassie: Bye.
Josh: Bye.
Reva: I got your message.
Josh: Cassie doesn't know I'm here.
Reva: Where does she think you are?
Josh: With Billy.
Reva: And what does that mean?
Josh: It means I'm here.
Reva: And so am I. So?
Josh: So... when you showed up at the prison before Cassie had arrived...
Reva: It's not like I timed my arrival. Well, okay, maybe there was some timing involved.
Josh: I was glad, Reva. I could tell that you wanted to talk, and I wanted that, too.
Reva: You did?
Josh: Yes. And then Cassie showed up, and I couldn't say what I needed to say. She can't know.
Reva: Know what?
Josh: What happened between us, Reva. She can't know that you and I...
Reva: Oh, Joshua, I know what we did. Why would you... how could you even imagine that I would tell...
Josh: Billy knows. So the how and the why of it doesn't really matter to me.
Reva: Well, I didn't tell him.
Josh: Oh, Reva, come on!
Reva: No. What do you think I did? Do you think I just ran out and tracked Billy down and said," Hey, you'll never guess what happened"?
Josh: Okay. So how did he find out?
Reva: He guessed.
Josh: Well, okay. Like I said, it doesn't really matter. The point is: When I saw you at the prison, I couldn't tell what you were thinking. But if I had to guess, it would be that you wanted me to come clean with Cassie about what happened.
Reva: Well, that wasn't what I was thinking, not really.
Josh: Reva, that night... that night was very, very important to me. It wasn't planned. It wasn't anything. It just happened. And I'm grateful that it happened. I needed it. What I was going through at that time...
Reva: What we were both going through. And I'm not sorry about it.
Josh: I don't want you to be. I just know that I can't expect Cassie to understand.
Reva: Oh, we've had this conversation before. You don't have to tell me again.
Josh: That is when I was in prison, and nobody knew that I was going to get out.
Reva: I'm just glad you are out.
Josh: So we're on the same page?
Reva: Sure, Joshua. We're in agreement. Cassie shouldn't know.
Josh: Fine.
Reva: Fine. In fact, I'm glad that you sent me that message, and I'm glad that you made me come over here to make sure I was on the same page as you were.
Josh: Reva, what's the matter?
Reva: The matter... is that we're not on the same page, Joshua. We're not even reading the same book. You love Cassie, and I love you. We can't be any farther apart than that.
Josh: Wait a minute. You mean you love me...
Reva: You know what I mean! When I was at the prison, that, you know, was the funny look you saw in my face. Because I wanted to tell you. Because I couldn't not tell you, not anymore.
Josh: Reva, I do love Cassie. You knew that...
Reva: Oh, God, please shut up!
Josh: No, I won't shut up. Reva, when did you start loving me again?
Reva: I never stopped loving you, okay? I never stopped. We made love. Joshua, we made love at the prison because you needed it. Well, guess what? I needed it, too. And that's why I'm telling you now. Not because I think you're going to drop Cassie and come back to me, back to the place where you've always belonged...
Josh: Reva, why are you doing this?
Reva: Because I don't do this kind of thing very well, okay, and I want you to know! I want you to know that what happened wasn't just your fear or it wasn't some crazy, spontaneous thing. It was us! It was us.
Josh: Reva, don't do this.
Reva: It's what it's always been with us!
Josh: Don't do this now. This is not why I wanted to see you.
Reva: Well, too bad. Too damn bad that you can't face the truth.
Josh: The truth is that you pushed me away, Reva. Look, I loved you longer and harder and with more devotion than any man has ever loved any other woman. Reva, I loved you when you were away. I loved you when you were gone. And I always tried to understand the fact that you needed to live your life the best way you knew how. Well, now I'm trying to live my life the best way I know how. You pushed me away. I'm not blaming you for anything. I'm just stating a fact, Reva. And I tried like hell to keep you from doing it. I fought... I have fought like hell for you my entire life, Reva.
Reva: I know you did. That's why it was so hard to push you away, even though I knew I was doing it because of cancer, because of the Veterans Center. But... I always thought when I had a reason to stop pushing, that you'd still be there.
Josh: Or you'd be dead.
Reva: Or I'd be dead. The one thing that I never thought was that you would find someone else to love enough to not come back to me.
Josh: Reva, I didn't go looking for it. But with Cassie, it was easy. It is easy. And with you... loving you has always been hard and complicated and unstable. I want something different, Reva. I need something different.
Reva: You didn't have to walk with me.
Josh: I wanted to.
Reva: Well, now that we're here, I'm good, okay. And we're done. We're done. I am all talked out, and I don't want to be any more frustrated than I already am.
Josh: Yeah.
Reva: Go. Cassie is waiting for you. Just please go. ( Muffled banging ) Oh, no, go! Get out of here! No, I don't want your help! I don't need your help! I'm fine!
Josh: You are impossible, you know that, Reva. Come on. You're doing it again.
Reva: Doing what?
Josh: You need help because you're hurt, but instead you push me away and you don't let me help you at all.
Reva: Well, yeah, you know, life's tough.
Josh: Well, I'm just calling it like I see it.
Reva: Well, maybe you shouldn't try so hard.
Josh: Maybe you should have told me that 20 years ago.
Reva: Just, you know, go. Please. What are you doing?
Josh: I'm trying... what is that stuff? What's in the box?
Reva: Box? What's in the box? This the reason I didn't want you to come in here. They're painting Cross Creek.
Josh: What?
Reva: They're paint... I brought this box here hoping that it... that you'd be here under different circumstances.
Josh: It's a good thing he's not the one that went into design. Shayne, I mean. He did this after you came back.
Reva: You should keep it.
Josh: No. I think this stuff should stay...
Reva: No, no, no. Please, we won't miss it. Just, you know, go. I know what you're waiting on. You're waiting for me to say it's okay. But you know what? It's not okay! It's not. This isn't... go, please. Just... I will love you until they put me in my grave.
Josh: I'm going to love you back for just as long, Reva.
Reva: And I will always want you to be happy. We just may not agree on how to make that happen.
Josh: Goodbye. Cassie?
Cassie: Finally! I swear, when you and Billy get together, you're worse than me and Reva. Come here.
Buzz: Isn't this nice?
Reva: Are you okay?
Buzz: Sure. Why?
Reva: You saw Josh, didn't you?
Buzz: Who?
Reva: My other disgustingly happy ex-husband, the man who just got out of prison. The one who's getting ready to ride off into the sunset with my sister.
Buzz: Oh, him. I might have caught a glimpse of him.
Reva: And you came over here to make sure I was okay.
Buzz: Yeah.
Cassie: I keep thinking that this... this is a dream. I'm going to wake up, and it's going to be like every morning since they took you away from me. I going to reach across the bed, and you're not going to be there.
Josh: Well, I've got news for you: This is a dream. But it's the good kind. The kind that lasts forever.
Raindrops fall from everywhere
I reach out for you but you're not there
so I stood waiting in the dark
with your picture in my hands story of a broken heart
stay with me just stay with me ooh, don't leave
so I stand waiting in the dark.
Reva: Mm, mm, mm. So how did you find me?
Buzz: I have an in with the owner of the place.
Reva: That's right. You're getting married soon, aren't you?
Buzz: Any minute. You going to come to the wedding?
Reva: I'd be a really crappy wedding guest.
Buzz: I've come to a lot of your weddings.
Reva: I just hope Olivia is aware of how lucky she is.
Buzz: Well, why don't you come to the wedding and tell her yourself? I cannot believe it, the dumb luck of this. I feel like I won a bonus round or some sort of thing. You know, I never thought I would let myself do this again, you know, fall in love the way I fell in love with her. It's just a deep... you know, deep well of love.
Reva: Oh, yeah. That well that you dive head first into. Oops, no water. Splat!
Buzz: Cynical woman.
Reva: Only because I'm trying to figure out who I am without being with a man.
Buzz: You mean Josh?
Reva: Mostly Josh.
Buzz: With or without Josh, you're an amazing, spectacular human being. Don't give up on love. Look at me.
Reva: Yeah, look at you.
Buzz: Look at yourself. Think about what you survived. You know, the world really is yours. You can make it what you want.
Reva: I'm not so sure about that.
( Cell phone rings )
Josh: ( Groans ) ( cell phone rings )
Cassie: I think it's yours.
Josh: Yeah, I think it's mine, too. I've got it. I'm on my way. Almost there. Oh!
Cassie: You're hopeless, you know that?
Josh: Really, I got it. I'm getting it.
Cassie: From what I just gave you, I think you're going to need to sleep for a whole week. ( Cell phone rings )
Josh: Show off.
Cassie: Hello? No, this is actually a private line. No, I don't know their number. No, I don't know a good pizzeria. I'm hanging up now. Wrong number.
Josh: Yeah, I kind of got that. Why don't you come on back to bed and have your way with me? Hey. What time is it?
Cassie: It's early. Go back to sleep.
Josh: You going for a run?
Cassie: Yeah. Just need a bit of a workout.
Josh: ( Laughs ) Yeah, thanks a lot. I appreciate that. You didn't get enough of a workout last night, huh? You're an animal. Mm. That's one of the things I love about freedom.
Cassie: Bye.
Josh: ( Laughs ) You're a tease, you know that.
Cassie: Uh-huh.
Ashlee Wolfe will appear
before a judge today.
Mrs. Wolfe's attorney is former mayoral candidate Jeffrey O'Neill.
His goal: To see that she's tried as a minor.
Cassie: I don't even want to hear about that anymore.
Josh: She's just a kid. She made a mistake.
Cassie: She's the reason you went to prison.
Josh: I don't blame her. We all do the best with what we have. Come over here, kiss me again.
Cassie: Order me something while I'm gone.
Josh: Okay. Actually, maybe I'll run out, pick something up and bring it back so I can get a little fresh air myself. I'll meet you back here.
Cassie: Okay.
Josh: Okay.
Cassie: Got a minute?
Reva: Uh, sure. How did you find me here?
Cassie: Oh, it wasn't hard. I got a room last night for Josh's first night out of prison. What made you book a room?
Reva: They're painting Cross Creek.
Cassie: Oh, yeah?
Reva: Yeah. You obviously have something to say, so why don't you just say it.
Cassie: Josh left me for a little bit last night to go see Billy. How did you track him down?
Reva: Don't you mean "did I track him down"?
Cassie: No. You heard what I said. I found a drawing that Shayne made of his mom and dad. Now, it seems kind of an odd thing for Josh to be carrying around right about now, unless, of course, you gave it to him. Which makes it, of course, not so odd as it is disturbing.
Reva: Cassie...
Cassie: Why did you give it to him? Why did you give him something like that unless you want to remind him of the two of you?
Reva: It wasn't really a reminder. You know what? Forget it. I'm not going to do this. I'm not going to lie to you anymore.
Cassie: That would be good.
Reva: You want to talk about it?
Cassie: Mm-hmm.
Reva: Let's talk about in here. When I found that drawing, I wanted Josh to feel the same way I did when I looked at it.
Cassie: So you were trying to remind him of....
Reva: Yes, I wanted him to miss us. I wanted him to say he still loved me because I have never stopped loving him.
Cassie: Excuse me?
Reva: Yes. And if you only knew how I feel...
Cassie: I don't care how you feel! How dare you, Reva! Oh, I knew it, I knew it. I knew it from the beginning. Of course you still love him. Of course you still want him.
Reva: Well, you were right.
Cassie: So why didn't you tell me?
Reva: I'm telling you now: I have never stopped loving Josh. And when you were angry because I went to see him that last time, you were right to be. You were right to think that it was inappropriate for me to be with him, because it was.
Next on "Guiding Light"...
Frank: I'm just thinking you're rushing to put a ring on her finger because you're afraid you're going to lose her. Are we talking about Jeffrey O'Neill?
Buzz: Yes.
Frank: You don't think he and Olivia...
Buzz: No, I don't think...
Ava: Coop! I want him back.
Ashlee: Coop, you're my hero!
Reva: I wanted him to say that he still loved me because I never stopped loving him.
Cassie: How dare you! Are you going to tell Josh?
Reva: I already told him.
