Guiding Light Transcript Wednesday 6/12/02
Phillip: So here.
Harley: Well, what do you want me to do with that?
Phillip: Whatever you like.
Harley: So Gus was arrested for something when he was a kid, what's the big deal? The big deal is Phillip Spaulding got his hands on a suppressed file. This is private information, and it is nobody's business, including mine.
Beth: Lorelei, what did you do? I don't want Phillip to read this. I don't want to read this. I'm not going to... I'm not going to read it anymore.
Bill: God, you could be twins. Although she was a redhead and quite a handful. Her name was Lorelei.
Beth: No, no one. "No one like you. Never before. Never after."
Cassie: Bill, so what do you think?
Bill: Well, I still want to take a look at the generator, but I can tell you right now, you've got extensive damage in the wiring.
Cassie: Oh, no.
Bill: It's a mess.
Cassie: You're late.
Olivia: Good morning to you, too. Bill Lewis...
Bill: That's right.
Olivia: I did see you at the wedding. What are you doing here?
Cassie: Well, he's here to figure out why the lights went out during Josh and Reva's wedding.
Olivia: Oh.
Cassie: Unless, of course, you would like to answer that question.
Bill: Nice to see you, Olivia.
Olivia: You're here to confirm Cassie's theory that I cut the wires?
Bill: I don't know, did you?
Olivia: No, I didn't, I own the place. I own half the place, Cassie owns the other half of the place. Are you happy? Call me if you find out what happened, okay? I'm going to bed.
Bill: Little hung over?
Olivia: Just slightly more than a little, Bill.
Bill: Ah, so you're a full- blown, brown paper bag hung over. Well, I mean, if you can't get tanked at your own ex-husband's wedding, where can you, right? You know what you got to do? You got to try a little secret remedy of mine. You've got to pop three aspirin. Okay, you take a hit of tomato juice, and then you take you three raw eggs, suck them down, stir them up...
Olivia: (Groans) Shh. I feel better, thank you.
Bill: Every time.
Cassie: Oh, great, now my morning's complete.
Edmund: And how is my favorite sister-in-law this morning?
Cassie: You know what? Not before breakfast, Edmund, okay?
Edmund: You.
Bill: Yes.
Edmund: You're the Lewis boy, aren't you? Bill, isn't it?
Bill: That's correct, that's me, yeah.
Cassie: Hey, Bill, can we take a look in the basement, too?
Edmund: There she goes. Picture of charm, isn't she? So how did you like our little disaster?
Olivia: (Groans)
Edmund: The lights go out in the middle of the Shayne-Lewis hoe-down. Mission accomplished, I'd say.
Olivia: Well, yeah, could you say it a little quieter, I have a bit of a headache.
Edmund: Oh. Well, imagine my disappointment...
Olivia: (Gasps)
Edmund: When I learned that you'd gone elsewhere for help. And I thought we were working so well together, Olivia.
Olivia: Look, that so-called help you're talking about came in here with little miss bossy.
Edmund: I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about construction crews, suppliers, that sort of thing.
Olivia: Oh, that.
Edmund: Yes, well, I guess you've decided to take the easy way out and turn to Alan Spaulding for all your needs.
Olivia: No, Edmund, I didn't decide anything, I didn't decide anything. Danny Santos decided for me.
Edmund: Danny?
Olivia: Yeah, Danny. He needed cash, I needed to meet my construction deadline, so we made a deal.
Edmund: Oh, wait a minute, he blackmailed you?
Olivia: Let's just say he was very persuasive and leave it at that. Now can we just drop it?
Edmund: Well, well, the virtuous mobster's back in the game. That is very interesting.
Ed: No, I know, I know. Well, it's a waiting game, you know? Right. Okay, thanks, Charles.
Danny: Hey, Ed.
Ed: Hey.
Danny: Was that the hospital?
Ed: Yes. I mean, Rick’s jumped to the top of the list for the organ transplant, but there's still no heart.
Danny: Yeah, it'll happen. Here, here, these things are so complicated. I got it.
Ed: Everything's different, you know.
Danny: Uh-huh.
Ed: Television sets are bigger, computers are smaller. Of course, the state of mind I’m in now, you know, running water or a toilet that flushes is a minor miracle. Guess I'll get used to this stuff eventually.
Danny: I can't imagine what it was like to live in the bush. There.
Ed: Well, Africa’s a beautiful place under the right circumstances.
Danny: Yeah, but to be held hostage like that and not be able to...
Ed: The fear was that I would never see my children again. And then to be rescued by a son-in-law that I didn't even know I’d had, I’d never met.
Michelle: Rescued? What, were you a prisoner?
Ed: Hey, speaking of children. How are you, honey?
Michelle: Dad... Dad, don't do that, I’m a big girl. What were you saying about being rescued?
Ed: Nothing, it's... A figure of speech. It's...
Michelle: I don't think so. Please, I'd like to know the truth.
Ed: She's going to get this out of you eventually, isn't she?
Danny: Oh, yes, she's very good at it.
Ed: Okay, let's make a deal here. I will answer your question, if you answer mine.
Danny: Me?
Ed: How did you get me out of Africa? How did you manage the impossible?
Danny: You're the one who did the impossible, Ed. You survived. Right?
Michelle: Survived what? And why do you know, and I don't know?
Ed: Because I asked him not to tell anyone. I mean, I just thought that with Rick sick, it wasn't the right time. I wasn't trying to keep you in the dark, sweetie. I was just...
Michelle: Just trying to protect me?
Ed: Is that so wrong?
Michelle: No, but I need to know everything. Now Ross said that he thought something was wrong with you. Is that when you were sick?
Ed: Yes, that's right. That's right. Okay, look, when Ross called me, when you were on trial, I was sick with Malaria. I was out of my mind with fever, I didn't know one day from the next. But something that he said must've penetrated because I kept hearing your voice.
Michelle: My voice?
Ed: But it sounded like when you were a little girl. I mean, it was like you were calling me over and over again. And so when I... When the fever broke, when I got a little strength back, when I could actually stand up, all I could think about is getting to an airport so I could get home to you. And if I hadn't been so stubborn, it might actually have worked.
Michelle: What do you mean?
Ed: Just the part of Africa that I was in, it's not... It's not a safe place. If your going to travel, you have to go in a group. But I was so desperate to get there, to get out, that I tried to do it on my own, and that was a mistake, because kidnapping and violence, it's just a... It's a way of life there.
Michelle: You were kidnapped? Why would they take you? What did they want from you?
Ed: They wanted the one thing that I had to offer: My skill as a doctor. Honey, you've got to understand that Africa, it’s... It's a different place. I mean, old people, little babies, they're... They're dying everywhere. Food is scarce, water is just nonexistent certain times of the year, disease... These people needed me.
Michelle: So they held you hostage?
Ed: I was never mistreated physically, but I was never free to leave. And so you accept that and there's all this work to do, and I tried to do it the best I could. And so weeks turned into months, months turned into years, and then way, way past when I thought I was ever going to get home, these people showed up and they were looking for me.
Michelle: Danny's people.
Ed: Money changed hands, more money they had ever seen. I was escorted to the airport where I met your husband. We got on a plane, it took off, I was in the air, and I was free. And Danny and I talked for a long time, and I fell asleep like an old man, and I slept and I ate, and I slept some more, and when I woke up, I was home.
Michelle: Oh, Dad.
Ed: But everything is going to be fine now, everything is going to be okay.
Michelle: Danny, how did you find him?
Ed: I'd like an answer to that, too. And about the money.
Danny: None of that matters now.
Ed: It matters because I have to pay you back.
Danny: No, Ed, come on. You've more than paid me back by making Michelle so happy.
Michelle: Danny, you did such a wonderful thing for me, for my whole family.
Danny: I was just trying to help, honey, that's all I was...
Michelle: I understand that. I understand, but what you did was huge, and I'd really like to know how you pulled it off.
Olivia: Don't think that Danny isn't a Santos through and through. When he wants something, he gets it, just like his mother.
Edmund: And how much exactly did he get?
Olivia: Well, now, that's none of your business.
Edmund: I'm so glad we had this little talk, Olivia.
Olivia: Where are you going?
Edmund: To capitalize on my good fortune.
Cassie: Well, Olivia, if you think your head hurts now, wait till you hear the latest.
Olivia: What? What?
Bill: Well, you got big-time damage to the electrical system.
Olivia: Define big-time.
Cassie: Big enough to slow up our grand opening, okay? And Bill agrees with me, somebody did this on purpose.
Olivia: On purpose? Who would do such a thing?
Cassie: I was wondering the same damn thing, Olivia. Do you think you can answer the question?
Phillip: Beth? There you are. Hey. What are you doing? Are these Lorelei’s things?
Beth: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they are.
Phillip: Hmm, I thought you said you didn't want to look at those again.
Beth: Well, I just realized that maybe I might remember something from that time if I took another look.
Phillip: Is it helping?
Beth: No, no, not really. All pretty much a blank. I mean, I know that I must've eaten and slept and met people during that time, but who, where... Nothing. Can't even remember just the smallest detail.
Phillip: Well, you know, it's probably because you're not ready, you know. When you are, it'll come. Hey. Are you okay? I'm sorry, I don't mean to be sloughing this off, it's just... What... I'm sorry you took me by surprise. What's going on here? You've been doing so well. Your therapy's going great, and you're putting all this stuff with Lorelei behind you, so...
Beth: Yeah, yeah, I know, it's just... It's very scary for me to know that there was a time in my life when I wasn't myself and I can't remember what I did. And I know that I'm not responsible for my actions during that time, but what about the consequences?
Phillip: I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it. You weren't gone for very long, I don't think it could be anything too bad.
Beth: Phillip, Lorelei played cards, she danced on bars, she was impulsive, she liked to have a good time.
Phillip: Yeah, she did. So?
Beth: So what if she did things that neither one of us want to know about.
Phillip: I think that's the point, Beth. Maybe we don't want to know, maybe we don't want to ask. Why? Things are going so well for us right now. You know what? To hell with it. Whatever happened with Lorelei happened. It's done, it's in the past, and it can't touch us now.
Beth: I just wish I could be sure of that.
Gus: Hey, don't tell me you're running away again.
Marina: No, I know that's what everyone probably wishes, but no.
Gus: Well, we heard that you were grounded. (Laughs)
Marina: Yeah, I’m pretty much under house arrest, except for working here.
Gus: Mmm. Well, I hope your dad's not that tough on you, because you... Remember we talked about that, you did the wrong thing for the right reasons. Tried to keep your aunt away from guys like me.
Harley: Yeah.
Marina: How can you be so nice to me after what I did to you?
Gus: Well, I've been, you know... I've been framed for a lot worse things in my life.
Harley: Worse than sleeping with a minor?
Marina: I just thought if the two of you broke up, it'd make the whole family happy, you know?
Harley: Well, I’ll tell you what? Next time you have one of your bright ideas, why don't you let us know ahead of time, okay?
Frank: No, what, you first? How about me first? I thought raising you would prepare me for anything. This one caught me by complete surprise. I'll never be able to figure out how you came up with a plan for setting up Gus like that.
Marina: I mean, it worked for mom's boyfriend.
Frank: You lied to mother about Cain slipping into bed with you?
Marina: No, I didn't lie to anyone. That time it really happened.
Olivia: Okay, let's go through this again. Are you accusing me of damaging my own hotel?
Cassie: Our hotel.
Olivia: Our hotel.
Cassie: The lights went off in the middle of Josh and Reva’s reception. I don't know, timing does raise a few questions, Olivia.
Olivia: Well, let me ask you this: Why didn't I just turn on the sprinklers? That would put a damper on the reception, but we'd still have a profit margin, right? What is the bottom line?
Bill: Well, someone opened the valve leading to the lake.
Cassie: Deliberately.
Bill: Yeah, and the water rushed into the subbasement, shorted out the primary generator.
Olivia: In English, what are we talking about? What is it going to cost us?
Bill: At least 150.
Cassie: Thousand dollars, Olivia. $150,000. And I'm wondering how the hell did this happen. Let me think. You sneak around Reva's wedding like the bad fairy and, poof, the lights go out. So I’m thinking it's you, but you know, we could get the cops here and they could decide.
Olivia: All right, fine, I admit it, I did it. Edmund and I planned the whole thing. But sure, it cost me $75,000 for a 20-minute blackout, but hey, you know me, I’m just that fun kind of gal.
Cassie: Oh, yeah, you sure are.
Bill: All righty. This sounds like a partnership made in heaven. Or somewhere south of that.
Olivia: Haul me off to jail, but thank me for having you sign those papers first.
Cassie: What papers, Olivia?
Olivia: The insurance papers that I had you sign at Reva’s house before the wedding.
Cassie: You mean that this is...
Olivia: Going to cover everything. You, since you're the designated expert at Lewis Construction, you want to draw up the forms?
Bill: Not at all.
Olivia: Goody. Well then I'm leaving. Out, come on, Bill. Oh, Cassie, unless you want to cuff me and call the police.
Cassie: Don't tempt me.
(Knock at door)
Edmund: Danny, I was hoping to find... I hope I’m not interrupting. You must be Dr. Bauer.
Ed: Who are you?
Edmund: Edmund Winslow, I’m an old family friend of Danny’s. It's good to see you alive and well and safe with your family again.
Michelle: Wait a minute, you knew that he was...
Edmund: That he was made captive and rescued by your noble Danny here. Everyone in town's talking about it.
Danny: Yeah, Edmund and I have some business to discuss outside. Sorry. Excuse us.
Ed: What's the matter?
Michelle: Nothing.
Ed: No, come on, tell me what the matter is.
Michelle: Life with Danny and his family, it's just a little complicated, that's all. And I'm really worried about where he got that cash.
Danny: Look, I thought I made it perfectly clear that I want to keep my family life and my business affairs separate. So if you're here looking for payment...
Edmund: Well, I did use my contacts to locate your father.
Danny: Yeah, Edmund, I know what you did, and you'll get paid for it at Infierno, not here.
Edmund: Well, that's very kind of you, Danny, but about the amount. You see, I’ve come to realize that my involvement in this plan is now worth a great deal more than we originally thought.
Danny: (Chuckles) So what the hell are you talking about?
Edmund: Well, what it means is that I've been doing some checking, Danny. And apparently the funds I used from you were not drawn from your family's accounts, they were obtained illegally from Olivia Spencer. And if that were to get out, you would not be the only one in trouble here.
Danny: So what, Edmund, you're worried about your reputation?
Edmund: Among other things. I'm here to discuss an adjustment to my fee.
Danny: Forget about it, buddy. You're not going to get an extra penny out of me.
Edmund: Well, I would hate to tell this to your family, Danny. I mean, I'm sure the good doctor and your lovely wife would be crushed to find out about your financial arrangements.
Frank: Let me get this straight: Your mother's boyfriend climbed into bed with you. What else did he do?
Marina: Dad, stop freaking out. I mean, he didn't do anything.
Harley: Okay, so then what are you saying? What did he do?
Marina: Ew, gross, no, he did nothing. He did absolutely... I mean, my mom came in, she went completely ballistic. It was like she practically threw him out of the second story window. It was... It was pretty funny, actually. She was throwing all his stuff out after him, and she was just fierce.
Frank: Did he do anything to you? Did he try to kiss you?
Marina: Dad, no, stop it. I mean, God, the only reason I even told you is because you asked me where I got the idea, right?
Harley: Frank, where you going? Frank? Oh, God, here. Here, would you... Just keep an eye on her. Do something with her, okay.
Gus: All right, yeah, we can learn to make hats with napkins. Our first lesson.
Phillip: Beth, you have been through so much trauma in your life. From Bradley to Carl to Edmund to me... It's amazing that you haven't blocked everything out. Don't worry about a small period of time that you can't remember.
Beth: And it won't bother you not knowing everything that I did during that time?
Phillip: It's not going to bother me at all. If you're okay, so am I. You know, I mean, obviously I wish that none of it had happened. I wish that there had never been a Lorelei. I wish you had come straight back from Mexico, and I had never had to tell our children that their mother was dead. But it did, and we're dealing with it. What's important is that we're all together now, and we're fine. That's all that matters, not something that you might have done when you were somebody else.
Beth: And do you want to go through Lorelei’s things and see what you can find?
Phillip: I feel like the less I know about Lorelei, the better.
Beth: Good. Good, then in that case, would you mind getting that out of my sight, taking it up to the attic?
Phillip: I'd be very happy to do that. Tell you what. Why don't you take it up to the attic with me?
Beth: Can you just give me five minutes?
Harley: Listen to me. I'm not saying that what you did to Gus is as bad as what Eleni did to you. I mean, she should've told you, there's no excuse. She should've told you the second that idiot tried anything with Marina.
Frank: I'd like to kill the guy.
Harley: Well, it's over, okay? It's too late for that. It's over, and Marina said nothing happened.
Frank: Harley, I wanted things to be different for Marina. You know, I'm sorry, you know, but raising you, I made a ton of mistakes. I didn't mean to, but I did, I really did.
Harley: Oh.
Frank: You know what? I wanted things to be better for Marina, I really did. And I certainly didn't want things to...
Harley: What? What?
Frank: I didn't want her to get hurt as often as you did.
Harley: You sure you don't mean get pregnant.
Frank: No, God, no. Yes. Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Is Phillip giving you a hard time about Gus?
Harley: Yeah, it's just... It's more Alan that I'm worried about. You know, he's been looking for an excuse to try to drag Zach into the dynasty.
Frank: Yeah, you know what? Over my dead body.
Harley: Wouldn't be surprised if Alan finds a way to do just that.
Frank: Great, great. Me and my big mouth. I'm sorry. I never should've said anything. But, you know, they can't get to those records, all records are sealed.
Harley: Well, actually, Phillip already did.
Frank: What are you talking about?
Harley: Yeah, but don't ask me what's in it, because I have absolutely no idea.
Frank: You never opened it?
Harley: No. No, I've wanted to a thousand times. I've had nightmares about what's in that stupid thing.
Frank: Then open it.
Harley: I can't. I can't, this is private. You know that. This is suppressed, it's private, I can't. I swear sometimes I don't know why I can't just be ten years old again.
Frank: Because I couldn't survive it.
Olivia: Okay, Bill. Here's the insurance form for the Beacon. You go ahead and estimate the cost of damage, and I'll go take 22 aspirin.
Bill: Hey, where was this taken?
Olivia: Oh, who cares?
Bill: I thought you were friends.
Olivia: We are. Were. Something.
Bill: Yeah, me, too. Something.
Olivia: What's that supposed to mean?
Bill: It's a little strange. I mean, I know Beth, of course, but when I saw her yesterday at the wedding, I thought she was someone else, someone I knew.
Olivia: Who?
Bill: This woman that I met back in Texas a while back. I mean, Olivia, they look so much alike, they could be twins.
Repairman: For starters, you need a whole new electrical system.
Cassie: Oh, okay, great. You know what? Do whatever we need to have done. Whatever.
Repairman: We're talking a major overhaul here, a lot of cash.
Cassie: It's okay. We're insured, and we're covered. Bill said you are the guy to call to get things done in a hurry, so we need this done in a hurry.
Repairman: Sure, we'll get right on it.
Cassie: Not tonight, because I have something going on here tonight.
Repairman: See you tomorrow, then.
Cassie: Thanks, Pat. Thanks. I don't need any surprises, I just need you.
Richard: That's good, because you have me. Forever. And I'll be back real soon. I love you.
Cassie: Soon, Richard. Soon.
Frank: My sister would like to talk to you.
Gus: Oh, sure. I'll get dressed for the occasion. There's a hat here for you. Cone-head hat.
Frank: You're making cloth hats with the guy?
Marina: Yeah. Are you mad at me?
Frank: No, I'm not mad at you. I'm upset at what Cain did. I'm never mad at you. Are you sure the guy didn’t...
Marina: Dad, he didn't touch me, okay? I mean, mom's boyfriend just... He just got into the wrong bed. You know, it's not some major life crisis, so can we just forget about it?
Frank: No, honey, I don't think we can. You know, you're going around pretending like this is no big deal, but I think we kind of both know that it is a big deal, right? You know, you're very much like your Aunt Harley; you guys get tough when you're scared. But I just want you to know that it's okay to be scared, and you had every reason to be scared.
Marina: Okay, but... I mean, it's not like I can't take care of myself, you know.
Frank: I know that. I want you to listen to me, and I don't ever want you to forget this, ever. I love you so much. And I don't care how old you get or how big you get, you're always going to be my little girl. And I promise you I will never, ever let anything like this happen to you again. I will always protect you, as long as I'm around, okay? And you know what? I plan on being on around for a long, long time with you.
Marina: Okay.
Gus: I don't know why Marina's mother didn't tell Frank about this, and maybe they could've sent her to therapy. Get her some help.
Harley: Maybe she was scared of the truth, you know? Scares me sometimes.
Gus: That girl's been carrying a secret around for a very long time. You know, that's tough. It's painful to carry something inside you that you're ashamed of, that you can't talk to anybody about.
Harley: Wow, sure seem to know a lot about troubled teens.
Gus: No, you know, I just can relate to people with... Who are screwed up. I can see through her tough little act from the minute I saw her. I mean, people, they don't wear a poker face for no reason, you know?
Harley: What's your reason? I mean, you know, all your game- playing and every time I ask you a serious question, all these jokes, you know. What's behind your game face?
Gus: I didn't say that everybody had a reason.
Harley: No, but you have one. And I wish so much that you would talk to me about it. Gus, if you care about me, there shouldn't be any secrets between us. Isn't that what we always say to each other? So whatever this is, whatever you have done, just say it. Just get it out in the open so that we can deal with it.
