[Elevator bell dings]

Julian: Excuse me. I'm looking for my sister -- Ava Jerome? Another nurse said that she'd been moved from the burn unit but doesn't know where she ended up.

Nurse: Okay, let me take a look.

Julian: [Sighs]

[Mouse clicks]

Nurse: Here we go. Oh. Ms. Jerome's been released.

Julian: Excuse me?

Nurse: Your sister's been released earlier today.

Julian: I was just at her apartment. So if she's not there, where the hell would she be?

Sonny: Ready to go?

Carly: No. But it's time.

Sonny: [Sighs]

Ava: I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to intrude.

Carly: Too late.

Jordan: Hey, you.

Curtis: Hey.

Jordan: Thank you for coming to meet me. Mwah. I missed you.

Curtis: Missed you, too. You good?

Jordan: Yeah, I'm great. Um, how's Stella?

Curtis: Better. Well, she seems to have a lot more energy. Almost like her old self.

Jordan: Well, that's wonderful.

Curtis: Yeah. It is.

Jordan: Oh, unless it's not wonderful. What... what's wrong?

[Cell phone rings]

Laura: Hello? Oh, hi, Josslyn. Everything okay at camp? What kind of incident?

Spencer: Ohh! [Panting]

[Door slams]

Spencer: Hello?

[Lock engages]

Spencer: Wait. Where am I? You -- you can't leave me in here! You messed with the wrong kid! Let me out of here right now!

Carly: You're out of the hospital?

Ava: I am.

Sonny: That was quick.

Ava: Yeah. Well, believe me, I would rather have stayed.

Carly: What are you doing here?

Ava: Morgan has been on my mind lately.

Carly: Has he?

Ava: Well, he's always on my mind. But even more so since the fire. I wanted to come here and be here and... see his gravestone.

Sonny: First time here? Welcome to my son's grave. How come you didn't come here earlier? You didn't want to face what you'd done?

Ava: I didn't want to face a world without Morgan in it.

Carly: We're "without Morgan" because of you. You killed him, and now you want to come and pay respects at his marker? I would drag you out of here, but you can barely stand, and I don't want to be arrested for assault.

Ava: Fair enough. [Sniffles] And hopefully you're also thinking of Avery and how much that would traumatize her. But maybe you're not, you know, because I know you've made it perfectly clear how anxious you are to tell her about all of this, about what happened to Morgan.

Carly: When she's old enough, absolutely.

Ava: You would hurt your own child just to punish me?

Sonny: Avery deserves to know who you are.

Carly: Wait a minute. And who she isn't. That your selfishness and cruelty are not genetic, that she is separate from you, and that being your lifeline is not her job.

Ava: It's you who said that. I've never said that.

Sonny: You've taken two people that I love away from me. First, it was Connie. You murdered her, walked away. Let me tell you something -- if you find a plastic surgeon who tells you he's gonna perform a miracle and make your face look the way it used to look, I would think twice. Because the second you walk out of that office healed, I'm gonna rethink to let you live. You are not gonna walk away from this death!

Curtis: At first, I was concerned that it was too much for Aunt Stella. But, you know, she just kept talking and talking. It was... it reminded me of elementary school.

Jordan: Mm.

Curtis: I could tell her anything. And you know Aunt Stella -- she [Sighs] She'll give you straight talk. And if I got out of line, she would put me in check.

Jordan: Oh, yes, I bet she did.

Curtis: But if anybody wronged Tommy or me? Watch out.

Jordan: Yeah. Yeah, she was your biggest champion.

Curtis: Yeah, that she was. Truth-teller. Protector.

Jordan: You know, relationships like that, they don't come along every day.

Curtis: I had almost forgotten how special it was.

Jordan: Sounds like you and Aunt Stella had a really great morning. So why do you look so upset?

Laura: No, no, of course you should have called me. Okay. Thank you for everything, Josslyn. I'm on my way.

Spencer: Hello?! You can't leave me in here, you coward! [Sighs] All right, Valentin... game on.

Ava: I'm a terrible person. I know it. I've done terrible things. Most of all -- what I did to Morgan. But, believe me, I am paying 1,000 times over.

Carly: No. No, you're not.

Ava: Does this look like "walking away" to you?

Carly: Do you think that you get a free pass, because you set yourself on fire? Do you think it's like, "Oh, gosh, poor Ava, she's paid enough"? You will never pay enough.

Ava: I'm really not sure how much more I can pay.

Carly: [Scoffs]

Ava: I'm in hell!

Sonny: You really feel awful?

Ava: Yes.

Sonny: Then confess, go to prison.

Carly: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, there's an idea. Tell the world what you did to our son.

Sonny: But she's not gonna do that because she has no courage, no class.

Carly: Because your remorse only goes so far, huh, Ava?

Ava: I don't know what more you want me to say.

Sonny: Sure, you do. But you're not gonna say it to us or the cops.

Carly: Does it hurt? Your face? Gosh, I mean, your whole body?

Ava: What do you think?

Carly: I think it's the ultimate punishment. I do. I mean, for something like this to happen to someone so vain. Let's be real. That's what the whole affair was about, right? This gorgeous boy, our boy... falls in love with you, right? Falls under your spell, and you love it. You love it because he's so swayed by your beauty. He's so blinded by your beauty that he can't tear himself away.

Ava: "Look in the mirror"? Is that the end of this story?

Carly: You're a monster. You're a gutless, cruel monster. And you killed my son. And the only consolation is, now your face is as ugly as your soul.

Spencer: No phone and no wallet. I am trapped like a rat. Or as the jailed Prospero might have said... hello, ticket to freedom. [Sighs] But how? Bingo.

Josslyn: Hi, Mrs. Spencer.

Laura: Hi, Joss.

Josslyn: Thanks for coming.

Laura: Yeah. [Sighs] So, what happened? Is she okay?

Josslyn: Oh, yes. She's not hurt or anything like that. She just seemed really upset after her conversation with Spencer.

Laura: Yeah, I'm not surprised.

Josslyn: And then she asked to talk to her dad. And I wasn't sure what the protocol was with that... with him... so I called you instead. It said you were her emergency contact for today?

Laura: Yeah. Perfect. You handled it perfectly. [Chuckles] Thank you. I'll take it from here. Hi, Charlotte.

Charlotte: Where's Papa?

Laura: [Breathes deeply] Uh, Joss wasn't able to reach him, so she called me instead. Is that okay? Need a hug? That's my girl.

Curtis: I feel like an idiot.

Jordan: Why?

Curtis: All the stuff Auntie told me about her past.

Jordan: And you never talked about her life pre-you before?

Curtis: I never considered there was a life pre-me. I never thought to ask one time, you know, "Yo, Auntie, who were you before you practically gave up everything to raise Tommy and me?"

Jordan: And you know what? I bet Stella would say that she gained more than she lost.

Curtis: No question. No hesitation.

Jordan: Yeah.

Curtis: But that don't mean it wasn't hard.

Jordan: So what -- what did she end up giving up?

Curtis: A guy. Apparently she was madly in love with him. Marcus. Yeah. He proposed to her senior year in college.

Jordan: Did she say yes?

Curtis: She did.

Jordan: Wow.

Curtis: But then, uh... then Mama got sick. Auntie knew she was gonna have to take care of Tommy and me. So she moved to Bmore.

Jordan: And what ever happened to Marcus?

Curtis: Shoot, Marcus got a good-ass job offer in San Francisco, too good to pass up.

Jordan: Right.

Curtis: Long-distance relationships weren't that easy back then.

Jordan: Yeah, no, it's not nearly as easy to stay in touch.

Curtis: Yeah. Aunt Stella says she has no regrets, though.

Jordan: And I'm sure that's the truth.

Curtis: Well, then why do I feel so guilty? I mean, I just assumed that that was the life she chose. The woman sacrificed so much.

Jordan: Babe. Wow. This conversation really, uh... really has you shaken up.

Curtis: It's a game-changer.

Jordan: For you and Aunt Stella or for you and me?

Curtis: Both.

Sonny: Are you gonna tell me that it doesn't bother you at all that she's out free doing whatever she wants while Morgan's dead? This -- that's...

Carly: It bothers me. Absolutely, it bothers me.

Sonny: Right.

Carly: I mean, I hate that woman with every part of my being. But looking at her like that, Sonny, my God.

Sonny: Are you starting to feel sorry for that piece of trash?

Carly: No, no. I don't feel sorry for her at all. I don't. But it just kind of hit home for me. Ava's not "free." And we won't be either -- until we let her go.

Felix: We really should head out. I need to get you set up, go over your home care. And you really need to get off your feet.

Ava: I will. Just give me a minute, okay?

Felix: I don't think that's such a good idea.

Ava: Felix, please. Give me a minute. I-I'd like to say goodbye to Morgan.

Felix: I'll be in the car.

Ava: Thank you. [Sighs] Your mother was wrong, you know. It wasn't about vanity. I loved you so much, Morgan. I'm so sorry for what I did to you. If I could go back... [Sighs] If I loved you like I say I did... if I loved you like I think I did... then how did we get here? [Voice breaking] How did this get so far? I'm trying to make amends, you know. I really am. And not just because of the fire. 'Cause I felt sick to my stomach long before that. I feel so sad. I feel so sick whenever I think of you. Which is practically all the time. You probably don't believe that, though, huh? I don't know what to believe anymore myself.

Curtis: It's not just Aunt Stella taking care of Tommy and me. It's all the stuff we put her through after. Well, let's be real -- not we. Me.

Jordan: Oh, come on. Tommy was no saint.

Curtis: Yeah, but he had nothing on me. All the times I acted out... and then with the drugs. I wouldn't be surprised if I was the cause of her first stroke. And you know what I had the nerve to tell my auntie one time? I had been on a bender, and she was all over me about it.

Jordan: Yeah, rightly so.

Curtis: Exactly. Anyway, uh, I was pissed, and she was all over me about it. And I told my auntie that, "You wouldn't be so focused on me if you had a damn life of your own."

Jordan: But you know what, baby? You were young. You didn't know.

Curtis: Yeah, but I should have asked. And she should have whupped me nine ways to Sunday.

Jordan: Yeah.

Curtis: But she didn't even deal out the "How could you, after everything I've done for you?" Never. Not once.

Jordan: And you know what that tells me? That tells me that she didn't feel that way. Aunt Stella loves you so much. She obviously would do anything for you.

Curtis: Yeah. Well, now it's my turn to step up and put Aunt Stella first for a change. She deserves it.

Jordan: I agree. So what does that mean for us?

Sonny: Things cannot go back to normal for that bitch.

Carly: Okay. They won't.

Sonny: And how would you know that, Carly?

Carly: Well, you put the fear of God in her about getting reconstructive surgery.

Sonny: Yeah, okay. Well, you know what? If I see her looking back, you know, how she used to look, I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Carly: I know. And that's always an option. Okay? But...

Sonny: What?

Carly: I don't know. Hopefully by then...

Sonny: What?

Carly: Hopefully by then, we've moved on. And Ava Jerome will be irrelevant.

Julian: Ava. Thank God. I was looking for you at GH. I had no idea you were being released today.

Ava: [Chuckles] I thought that I could stay if I wanted to, and I thought wrong.

Jordan: Ah, no more burn unit?

Felix: No, she's an outpatient. Free to go about her life just like everyone else.

Ava: I wouldn't say like everybody else exactly.

Felix: Do you want me to give you some alone time with your brother?

Ava: No. No, let's get this over with.

Julian: Get what over with?

Ava: We're, um, gonna remove some of the bandages and reveal the "new me." [Laughs] So this might be a good time to run for the hills.

Julian: I'm not going anywhere.

Ava: Would you do me a favor, then?

Julian: Yeah. Of course. Anything. What?

Ava: Would you cover all the mirrors?

Spencer: Okay, go. [Grunts] Okay. Try that again. [Grunts] [Sighs] [Grunts] [Sighs] [Exhales sharply] Okay. Come on. Just got to hook the rope onto the nail. Then we can pry our way to freedom. [Grunts] Okay. [Grunts] [Sighs] Valentin's gonna be back to check on me -- very soon. This has to happen right now. Come on. [Grunts] [Grunts]

Laura: You feel any better? So, why did you want to talk to your dad? Was it because of that stuff that Spencer said?

Charlotte: Papa left. What if he thinks I'm mad at him?

Laura: Oh, he doesn't think that. No, no, sweetheart. I know. I know for sure that he doesn't think that. Charlotte, this is so confusing for you, isn't it? [Sighs] You know, the things that Spencer told you...

Charlotte: That my father killed his father. Your son?

Laura: Nikolas.

Charlotte: It was true? He's gone?

Laura: Yes.

Charlotte: You must miss him a lot.

Laura: Every day.

Charlotte: I know what it feels like to miss someone.

Laura: I know you do, sweetheart. I know.

Valentin: I'm back, ma petite. Just like I promised. Grrrrr.

Julian: Mirrors are covered.

Ava: All of them?

Julian: The ones I could find. I'm not really su-- [Sighs] You've already seen yourself once, Ava.

Ava: Yeah, but that was ages ago. Well, it feels like ages ago, and then I was a work in progress. But this is the new me, for better or worse. And I'm assuming for worse.

Julian: Come on, now. You need to stop. You're my sister, you're beautiful, and you're always gonna be beautiful.

Ava: [Chuckles] You haven't seen me yet. [Sniffles] Talk to me about you.

Julian: What about me?

Ava: I don't know. Anything. Anything but this. I don't want to talk about this. What's happening in your life?

Julian: Well, a trial date's set.

Ava: What do you think of your chances?

Julian: The answer to that changes about every five minutes. DA Campbell isn't a fan.

Ava: Is anyone in law enforcement?

Julian: Good point.

Ava: I'm pulling for you. Always.

Julian: Right back at you.

Felix: Okay, Ava. Ready?

Ava: Yeah. Ready as I'll ever be.

Julian: Hey. You know, no matter what, you're still you.

Ava: That's what I'm most afraid of.

Carly: You know, they say "living well is the best revenge." That should be our mantra from now on.

Sonny: It could be Ava's, too.

Carly: Stop. Well... no, 'cause Ava's not living well. Hell, she's barely living at all. And we get to move forward because we have the answers now. We do. No more mysteries to solve. No more loose ends to tie up. We now get to grieve our son the way we should have from the start.

Sonny: Even though Ava's free?

Carly: Forget Ava. I mean, forget Ava. I don't want to give her one more moment of our time. I don't. I don't want to poison our grief with one more thought of her, 'cause that's giving her the power. Don't you see that? And I'm done. I don't want that anymore.

Sonny: You're probably right.

Carly: Probably?

Sonny: Yeah.

Carly: Come here. This is the most difficult road we've ever had to walk down. We walked down quite a few. But look at us. We made it.

Sonny: We saw it through the end, found out who killed our son, and... we did what we had to do.

Carly: We did. And are they in prison? No. Does it suck? Yes. But we get to move forward. And we get to be parents to our kids, and we get to be best friends to each other.

Sonny: I'm your best friend?

Carly: Yep.

[Both laugh]

Carly: You're my everything. This is how we win, Sonny. We live. Together.

Laura: What are you doing here?

Valentin: I just want to spend some quality time with my daughter, that's all.

Laura: But I thought that we had agreed that --

Valentin: Dante and Lulu have temporary custody -- something I'm working on, by the way. But that didn't stop a judge from granting me immediate temporary visitation.

Laura: Now?

Valentin: Well, that's what "immediate" means. Want to go grab some ice cream? Someplace fancy?

Charlotte: Yes!

Valentin: All right, go tell them we're leaving.

Laura: I need the paperwork.

Valentin: Of course. Charlotte's mine for the next three hours.

Laura: [Breathes deeply] You work fast.

Valentin: Yeah. Nothing motivates me like my daughter. She's your granddaughter, by the way.

Laura: I don't need to be reminded by you.

Valentin: Then how could you sic that petulant brat Spencer on her?

Laura: Don't you dare talk about my grandson that way.

Valentin: He's a bully. She's half his age.

Laura: No. [Sighs]

Valentin: What kid does that?

Laura: A kid who has been traumatized by the death of his father! And just for the record -- Spencer has his own mind. I don't sic him on anyone. Do I regret what he said to Charlotte? Of course, I do. She never should have found out about it that way.

Valentin: Laura, you were not there. You do not know what happened in that room.

Laura: Well, I'd ask my son, but he's dead.

Valentin: Nikolas faked his death. That's why he was on the island. He framed an innocent person for it. So I think that's why you vilify me, because you can't bring yourself to look at who Nikolas was.

Laura: How dare you!

Valentin: Yeah, yeah.

Laura: How dare you say that about my son!

Valentin: Hate me. Hate me! But don't you ever take it out on my daughter again!

[Footsteps approaching]

Josslyn: I just wanted to make sure everything's okay.

Valentin: Everything's perfect.

Josslyn: Okay. Well, have fun.

Valentin: So, what is it? Chocolate or vanilla?

Charlotte: Strawberry.

Valentin: Oh! Strawberry. How could I forget strawberry?

Laura: Goodbye, Charlotte.

Charlotte: Bye, Grandma.

Laura: I should call Lulu, let her know what's going on here. Um, do me a favor. Grab Spencer. I'm gonna take him now.

Josslyn: Sure. No problem.

Laura: Thanks.

Spencer: [Grunts] Yes! I got it. Okay. Okay, okay.

Curtis: The way I feel about you, it knocked me off balance. It came on so strong. Honestly, I saw us going the distance.

Jordan: So did I.

Curtis: I'm sorry.

Jordan: Don't be.

Curtis: Baby, I thought there was nothing that would make me give you up.

Jordan: No, um... you owe this to your aunt right now.

Curtis: I can't break her heart. I just can't. Not after everything she's done for me. [Chuckles] The funny part is that... she'd be livid if she knew that we were breaking up because she's sick. Yeah, not Aunt Stella. That's not how she rolls. I mean, she don't want us together. Not at all. But she wouldn't want us to go out like this.

Jordan: No, she'd want you to realize how awful I am all on your own.

Curtis: Honey, you are anything but awful. You hear me?

Jordan: I'm proud of you. [Sighs] I really am. I, um... I think you're... I think we're doing the right thing.

Curtis: Then why does it feel so wrong?

Valentin: How is it?

Charlotte: Good.

Valentin: Oh, no. You still thinking about what happened at camp?

Charlotte: Why is Spencer so mean to me?

Valentin: You know it's not you that he's mad at, right? Well, Spencer's father, Nikolas, made some pretty poor choices.

Charlotte: What type of poor choices?

Valentin: Well, grown-up poor choices that you don't have to worry about, but in the end, he disappeared. And so Spencer's pretty sad and angry about that. And he's looking for somebody to blame.

Charlotte: So he decided to blame you?

Valentin: Yeah. And that's okay. I'm a big kid. I can take it. But what I don't like is how he's treating you.

Charlotte: I don't want to stop going to camp. Most of the time, it's really fun.

Valentin: Well, then you don't have to stop going to camp. You can keep going to camp with all your friends. And you won't ever have to see Spencer again. I'll make sure of it.

Laura: Lulu, it's gonna be all right. Yeah, I know. I know you didn't want Valentin to spend any time with Charlotte, but it's a visit, okay? Just a visit. She'll be home before you know it.

Josslyn: Laura, we have a problem.

Laura: Honey, I'm sorry. I'm gonna have to call you back. Yeah, deep breath. Okay. Bye. What's up?

Josslyn: It's Spencer.

Laura: Did he sign himself out again? I've told him so many times not to do that. What time was it?

Josslyn: Spencer didn't sign himself out, and no one seems to know where he is.

Spencer: Oh! [Grunting] [Sighs] All right. Rome wasn't built in a day. I will prevail.

[Glass shattering]

Spencer: Ooh. [Sighs] No. No, no, no, no. [Gasps, sighs]

Sonny: So, you want to have a late lunch?

Carly: Done talking about Ava, huh?

Sonny: Yeah, I'm done. For good.

Carly: [Chuckles]

Sonny: So, what's your favorite to eat here? What do you think?

Carly: Everything. I own the place.

Sonny: [Chuckles]

[Cell phone rings]

Sonny: Do you mind if I get that?

Carly: No.

Sonny: All right.

[Ringing continues]

Sonny: Yeah, Max? Uh...not -- not now. No, not now.

Carly: Okay. What was that?

Sonny: Uh, you know -- dealing with stuff.

Carly: "Stuff."

Sonny: So, what are you gonna get?

Felix: Okay. Just let me apply the antibacterial ointment, and then I'll show you how to use the mask.

Ava: You're awfully quiet over there, Jules. Hmm?

Julian: No. No, I'm just, you know, listening to Felix in case there's anything I need to know.

Ava: Liar. Look at me. Oh, boy. You can't even maintain eye contact. That is not a very good sign.

Julian: Ava, that's --

Ava: Do you think I'm hideous? You should move out. You don't want to bring anybody by to see your invalid sister.

Julian: Okay, you're not an invalid, okay?

Ava: Monster, then.

Julian: [Sighs]

Ava: It wouldn't be the first time I've heard that today.

Julian: What are you talking about? Who said that?

Ava: It doesn't matter. I'd really like to be alone.

Julian: Would you stop? Okay? Why don't we just order something in, okay, have a couple cocktails? Hey, Felix. She can have a drink, right?

Felix: After what she's been through? I recommend it.

Julian: See?

Felix: I still have to apply the --

Ava: The ointment and the mask. Yeah, I got it.

Felix: You sure?

Ava: They both come with instructions. I'm disfigured, I'm not an imbecile.

Felix: [Sighs] Okay. If you need anything, just call the hospital. I can drop in any time.

Ava: Thank you, Felix.

Julian: [Sighs]

Ava: Your turn.

Julian: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel --

Ava: No. I know you didn't. Just please, please go.

Julian: Fine. But I'll be back.

Ava: Of course, you will. You live here, don't you?

Julian: [Chuckles] Don't forget it.

[Door opens]

Curtis: I wish it was different.

Jordan: That's life, right? You know? Always throwing us a curve-ball.

Curtis: I don't know. Maybe... maybe when Aunt Stella gets better, we try --

Jordan: No. No, no, no, no, no. I don't... I don't live like that. I don't live in the "maybe."

Curtis: Yeah, I feel you.

Jordan: I don't have any regrets. You know? Hey, listen. At the end of the day, my bowling game right now is [Chuckles] So on point.

Curtis: [Scoffs] You need to quit. Your bowling game has always been on point, 'cause you're a shark.

Jordan: Damn, I'm gonna miss you.

Curtis: [Sighs] You have no idea.

Sonny: So, I think I'm gonna have the burger and some truffle fries. And I don't know what else I want to eat, but we'll see here.

Carly: Define "stuff."

Sonny: Uh... loose ends.

Carly: Sonny.

Sonny: Carly, you got to give me, uh, just a -- a break, because I didn't -- I never said it was gonna be easy getting out of the business.

Carly: You did say it was possible. What if it's not?

Ava: [Whimpers] Carly was right. You did this to yourself. That... is the very definition of karma. Did you really think that this wouldn't haunt you? That you wouldn't have to pay? This is who you are. This is your face. This is your life. And it's all your fault.

Laura: Thank you, Chandler. But if you do hear from him, just call me immediately, okay? Okay, thank you. Hey, any luck?

Josslyn: [Sighs] The entire staff's looking for him. Spencer's not in the park or at the camp.

Laura: Oh.

Josslyn: Is there any chance he could have gone home?

Laura: No. I-I-I don't know where he could be. I think he's missing.

Spencer: [Sighs] [Bangs hands against wall] [Sighs] How am I supposed to get out of here if I can't even see anything?

Charlotte: [Laughs]

Valentin: Mmm. Mmm! Mmm. I'm not usually partial to strawberry, but that is good strawberry ice cream.

Charlotte: [Giggles] Told you!

Valentin: So, what was your favorite part of camp today? Did you do swimming? Sports?

Charlotte: Arts and crafts.

Valentin: Oh, that's right. You're making a surprise for me. How's that coming along?

Charlotte: Yours is done, and I'm almost finished with Nina's.

Valentin: Did you make something for Nina?

Charlotte: I miss her.

Valentin: I miss her, too.

Charlotte: Is Nina still mad at you?

Valentin: I made a mistake. Actually, I made a few mistakes. But in the end, we're gonna be a family together. I promise. And no one's gonna keep that from happening. Least of all Spencer.

On the next "General Hospital" --

Dante (to Charlotte): Before you go, I just need to ask your papa a few questions.

Nathan (on the phone): I need to talk to you about Spencer Cassadine.

Liesl: I have business to discuss with Nina.

Nina: You do?

Finn (to Monica): There's no way I failed that drug test.

Julian (to Alexis): I'm asking you to be a witness for the defense.
