Anna: Did you get the information I asked for?
Dr. Obrecht: No greeting? No pleasant chit-chat? Where are those British manners of yours?Anna: Oh, come on. I'm doing us both a favor by making this as brief as possible. Did you get it -- yes or no?
Dr. Obrecht: Here it is. Everything you wanted to know about Valentin Cassadine but were afraid to ask.
Ned: I don't want to second-guess our CEO, but Michael's social conscience might just be cutting into our profit margin.
Tracy: Mm-hmm.
Ned: Mother? Are you all right?
Tracy: Fine. Why?
Ned: Well, I just told you that Michael might be costing ELQ money, and you barely reacted.
Tracy: Michael's doing fine. He may be a little more ethical than I like, but ELQ is in sound shape. Now, if you'll excuse me... got to run.
Ned: Whoa! Where are you going?
Tracy: I just have something to take care of.
Ned: Business or pleasure?
Tracy: Why the interrogation?
Ned: Well, first, you're too distracted to talk about ELQ, and now you are being purposely vague. Obviously, you're hiding something. [Gasps] No.
Tracy: Ned --
Ned: Don't tell me you're going to meet with my father.
[Door rattling]
[Door hinges creak]
Alexis: [Sighs] [Exhales]
[Clank]
Alexis: Ju-- Julian? Julian. [Sighs] Course not. [Sighs] [Sighs] [Exhales sharply] Okay, Julian. Mm. You don't want me to drink? If you're still alive... here's your chance to stop me.
[Bottle clangs]
Alexis: Mm. Yeah, that's what I thought.
[Knock on door]
[Door closes]
Sonny: So, Max says you have something very important to tell us.
Lucy: Yeah, I've waited long enough already, and I do not want to wait another minute.
Sonny: You know what, is there any way it can wait? 'Cause Carly and I were in the middle of --
Lucy: Okay, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I do not mean to interrupt, but it is imperative that I speak with both of you right now.
Carly: Why? What's going on?
Lucy: It is about your son.
Sonny: What about our son?
Lucy: Look, I have thought and thought about this and have gone back and forth and back and forth, and I've -- I've just really decided that you need --
[Knocking on door]
Ava: Sonny!
Sonny: Oh, you got to be kidding me.
Ava: Sonny, I'd like to speak to you about Avery, please. It's --
[Door opens]
Sonny: What about Avery?
Ava: Hi, I -- I would really like to speak with you about Avery's education.
Sonny: Avery -- she's a toddler. What do you mean? What education? What are you talking about?
Ava: Well, you know, it's -- it's never too soon to start thinking about preschool, right? And a play group. I really do think that our little girl should be in a play group. I think she should have some socialization.
Sonny: It's not a good time, Ava.
Carly: No! No! We're in the middle of something here, and you didn't call!
Lucy: I'll say. We are discussing their son.
Ava: Lucy. Are -- are you here to talk about upping ELQ's donation to the Nurses' Ball? For Pete's sake, Michael is a grown man. Sonny and Carly may be his parents, but not his keepers. And besides, the -- the Jerome Gallery is more than ready to make up the difference.
Carly: Is that really why you're here?
Lucy: Um, you know, truly, it is such a worthy cause.
Sonny: Lucy, you know you can count on me any time, just not right now.
Lucy: I know that. Of course.
Ava: Okay, so -- so you don't have time, then, to talk about a play group for Avery, which is totally fine. I understand. We can -- we can talk about that another day. And now I can use this time to tell Lucy exactly what I'm offering.
Lucy: Excuse me.
[Door closes]
Carly: What the hell was that?
Ned: The last time you let him talk you into something, you wound up with worms in your brain. Did you forget about that?
Tracy: How could I ever forget about that?
Ned: Then why are you meeting him?
Tracy: You heard him. He's -- he said that whatever he's got going on is connected to my father somehow.
Ned: [Sighs] We went over this. He only said that because he knows Grandfather is your Achilles' heel. Obviously, he's planning another con.
Tracy: [Sighs] All right, you might be right. But on the outside chance that there is a connection to my father, I have to find out.
Ned: Okay. Do whatever you want to do. But when dear old Dad tries to take you for a ride, I hope you're prepared.
Tracy: Please. I know what I'm doing.
[Knocking continues]
Alexis: Uh... uh, just a minute! [Breathing heavily] Valentin! What do you want?
Valentin: Can I come in?
Alexis: What if I say no?
Valentin: That'd be rude.
Alexis: Hm. We wouldn't want to have that.
[Keys rattling]
Valentin: You gonna offer me a drink?
Alexis: That would imply that I wanted you to stay.
Valentin: So I take it you prefer to drink alone?
Anna: So, this is the information on Valentin that you got from Faison?
Dr. Obrecht: Yes. He sent a message through an encrypted account.
Anna: Okay.
Dr. Obrecht: Not so fast. First, I need your promise that you will not use this information to trace my Britta's whereabouts.
Anna: Oh, come on, Liesl. We had a deal. I'm a woman of my word, unlike you.
Dr. Obrecht: Anna Devane, pillar of truth and honor. There was a time when I would have conceded that point, but after learning what you did to Valentin Cassadine? How gratifying to find you are every bit as flawed and imperfect as the rest of us.
Anna: You can go.
Dr. Obrecht: You're welcome.
Anna: Oh, no.
Tracy: [Sighs] No. That's right. No good can come of this.
Larry: Ah, Tracy. Delightful to see you.
Tracy: Sanity has prevailed. I'm leaving.
Larry: You've only just got here. Why waste the trip? Just between you and me, you're paying for the room. Might as well enjoy it.
Tracy: Excuse me?
Larry: When our paths last crossed, I might have swiped your company credit card. Bygones.
Tracy: You are a degenerate.
Larry: Sticks and stones, Tracy. Come inside and hear me out. If you're still not interested, I'll go. I'll even return that piece of plastic.
Tracy: Better yet, return it now.
Larry: All jokes aside, you really do need to hear me. This is a matter of the utmost importance for your family.
Olivia: Mm!
Ned: Hello, gorgeous. Ready for the movie?
Olivia: Yeah, you know, I was just, uh, catching up with Lulu, and I'm little behind on my work. Um, do you think that I could meet you at the movie theater? Maybe I'll miss the previews, but I'll be there in plenty of time for the opening credits.
Ned: No! You can't miss the previews! We'll just tickets for the 9:00 show. We can meet at The Floating Rib, have a beer, and then head over to the theater.
Olivia: Yeah, I guess a beer does sound good. I, uh...
Ned: Olivia. You okay?
Olivia: Yeah. No. No. Okay, you know what? I'm just gonna say this. I'm gonna spit it out once and hope that it doesn't come out wrong. I got a proposal for you.
Ned: Wait. You are now going to propose to me?
Olivia: Not that kind of proposal. We actually talked about this before, when Leo was in the hospital. You know, I was saying how you've really been more of a father figure to Leo than Julian ever was, and Lulu was asking if maybe we were gonna make it official.
Ned: Official?
Olivia: Meaning you would become Leo's father legally.
Ned: You mean adopt him?
Olivia: Yeah, what do you think?
Ned: I-I -- I'm sorry, I can't do that.
Valentin: Why did I think you don't drink? Did you tell me that, or did I make it up?
Alexis: You know, you still haven't told me why you're here.
Valentin: I heard your husband died. Sorry.
Alexis: Huh. Your condolences don't mean anything to me.
Valentin: Well, if you're experiencing any conflicting emotions, I am a shoulder to lean on. I'm family, after all.
Alexis: Mm. You've been here 1, 2, 500 months, and today you want to be my brother. Why?
Valentin: I had some personal matters to deal with, but those are all done now.
Alexis: Uh-huh.
Valentin: I'm ready to make good on a promise I made when I first came to town.
Alexis: And -- and what's that?
Valentin: I came to Port Charles to reconnect with what family I have left. That would be you, your daughters, your grandchildren. I'm ready to make good on the promise.
Alexis: Oh. I-I have no idea what you're talking about.
Valentin: The keys to the Cassadine estate.
Anna: It's in here. [Clears throat] It's an e-mail. It's addressed to me. From Cesar Faison. He was with the DVX...
André: Mm-hmm.
Anna: ...And he ran counter-intelligence against the WSB at the time of the incident. I still -- I really don't understand how there was a kill order issued in my name, but now I do understand why the Bureau wanted Valentin taken out.
André: What did he do?
Anna: Well, he had access to highly classified information, and that information ended up in the wrong hands, and an operation was compromised, and agents were killed.
André: Valentin is a double agent? A traitor.
Anna: I don't know. But according to this, the intel wasn't turned over to the DVX by Valentin. That was me.
Larry: Could I make you a cocktail? The bar is fully stocked.
Tracy: You can make this worth my time. Start talking.
Larry: Ah, Tracy. Direct and to the point. I always admired that about you.
Tracy: You said this affects my family, especially my father. How?
Larry: In a word, Turkey.
Tracy: The bird?
Larry: No, I was referring to the country. Let me set the scene for you. I'd been hopping across Europe and Asia with a lovely older female companion --
Tracy: Ah, your latest mark.
Larry: [Chuckles] My companion wanted to visit an auction house in Turkey. So many exquisite pieces. An art thief's dream, really.
Tracy: You're losing me.
Larry: Oh! Back on point. There was one particular painting that caught my eye -- a portrait. Late Renaissance. A lost work by a master. One of his works was recently appraised at $20 million. I convinced my companion to bid for it.
Tracy: So you could make off with it?
Larry: I'd be offended if you weren't so bitingly accurate. Alas, the painting belonged to someone else, and the auction house had no right to broker it. Imagine my surprise when I recognized the name of its rightful owner. J.L. Holt.
Tracy: Jimmy Lee Holt? [Laughs] That hillbilly can't tell the difference between a portrait and a pin-up.
Larry: I was referring to J.L. Holt -- aka your father.
Ava: I'm very grateful for your silence, and I am willing to donate whatever it is you need to get that Nurses' Ball up and running.
Lucy: [Giggles] Oh, well... let's be very, very clear, shall we? We have moved out of the ballpark of a generous donation into the realm of a much larger sum.
Ava: Such as?
Lucy: Well, you know, we had this regular donor -- great person, but it seems that he's just not totally liquid, so we need money for the music performance rights, sets, costumes -- oh! And we have to partially pay for Donny Sheldon on the red carpet, you know, this wonderful host, and we have to pay for --
Ava: Okay. Okay! For the pills and your silence, I am willing to transfer... this much out of my account.
Lucy: [Gasps] Wow! That is so cute. We need another zero. After all, it is for such a worthy cause.
Sonny: You really want to do this right now? 'Cause it seems like, all those interruptions, the universe is saying that maybe we shouldn't be doing this.
Carly: Or maybe it's the two of us trying to make an excuse 'cause we don't want to finish what we started.
Sonny: Well, I will if you will.
Carly: You said we haven't had a real marriage in a long time.
Sonny: Am I wrong? I mean, you're not living here, you're not sleeping in my bed. You're living in the house that you shared with Jax.
Carly: That's not fair! Because we've been through hell, you know? And I just found out that you slept with Nelle, and I don't know when or if I'm ever gonna be able to move past that, and I can't help that.
Sonny: Carly, I made a mistake! I -- I admitted it, I apologized. I said I wasn't gonna do it again. I just can't keep doing this back-and-forth. It's got to stop.
Carly: So, what are you saying, Sonny?
Sonny: If you're not gonna give us a chance... ...then we're done, for good.
Lulu: How'd it go with Sonny?
Laura: Well, Sonny made it very clear that the Corinthos family has no use for Nelle.
Lulu: Yeah. Dante didn't tell me everything, but I got the feeling that Nelle and Carly had a very bad falling out.
Laura: But I think that Nelle still has feelings for Michael. I saw the two of them together at Kelly's, and she really couldn't take her eyes off of him. So, I think that Nelle is going to be our way to outmaneuver Valentin.
Anna: So, when it became clear that the intel was in enemy hands, then Valentin was questioned. And he claimed that he was tasked with a special assignment and that I had requested the information that was leaked.
André: I don't understand. Why didn't the Bureau just tell you about Valentin's claims?
Anna: Well, because he disappeared soon afterwards. And the Bureau just assumed that his claims that I was involved were just his attempts to try to shift blame.
André: Well, now it makes some sense. Everyone knows you would never sell out the Bureau.
Anna: Oh. That's where you're wrong, André. I would.
Alexis: Now you got the whole estate. All the money, all the misery. Enjoy!
Valentin: I'm offering to share it with the other one cast aside.
Alexis: But I don't want to share anything with you.
Valentin: What about your daughters? Your grandchildren? Charlotte could use some relatives. She's about Danny's age, right?
Alexis: Oh! I get it. I get it. You want to show me what a good daddy you are, and then I'll get Diane to share all her custody strategy with you.
Valentin: That's a little convoluted.
Alexis: Bye, brother.
Valentin: All right. Well, I came with the best of intentions. Just wanted to show my support as a sibling, something I didn't have much of growing up.
Alexis: Well, I'm gonna give you a little tip. So, if Charlotte wants a sibling, Charlotte has a sibling. His name is Rocco. So, if you want family, you can start there, because I already have a lot.
Valentin: Yeah. Maybe -- maybe not so many friends.
[Door closes]
[Knock on door]
Alexis: I told you to get lost! Julian.
Larry: You may recall that your father ran into some legal difficulties and had to disappear for a couple of years in the late '80s.
Tracy: I do recall. He was my father. We actually thought he was dead, but he was in hiding, moving around, using aliases.
Larry: Including J.L. Holt. By any name, your father had exquisite taste in art and an eye for a bargain. Painting hadn't been attributed at the time he purchased it. He must have bought it at a fraction of its value.
Tracy: You are wandering off-point -- again.
Larry: Naturally, I informed the auction house that I knew the legitimate owner of the painting. It caused quite a stir. Apparently, the people who had been in possession of that painting had been trying to track down J.L. Holt for decades, and when they couldn't find him...
Tracy: They presumed he was dead and arranged for the auction house to broker a sale.
Larry: Precisely. That very valuable painting belongs to Edward's heirs. I could return it to you for a little quid pro quo.
Tracy: [Chuckles] There's the catch.
Larry: A finder's fee is not out of the question. The painting's worth $20 million. We could split it 50/50.
Tracy: Oh! You want me to pay you $10 million for a painting my family already owns?
Larry: Who did I say was the Renaissance master in question? Oh, that's right. I didn't. Nor did I happen to mention the name of the auction house. It seems that without my knowledge, you've got very little to go on.
Tracy: Ned warned me. He said you'd try to con me again. This time, I don't want to play.
Larry: You're making a big mistake. Think about what your father would want!
Olivia: You don't want to adopt Leo?
Ned: Olivia, I love that boy.
Olivia: So...?
Ned: Well, what are we doing?
Olivia: What do you mean?
Ned: You and I have been dating off and on for three years. I'm helping you raise Leo. But when I proposed, you ran out of the room -- literally. I mean, if I'm not good enough to marry, why would you want me to be Leo's father?
Olivia: You are so wrong about that. Ned, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. But look around. I mean, look at Carly and Sonny. Their marriage is over. Julian and Alexis... they were so in love, and look at them, one year later. Their marriage is done. I mean, from where I'm standing, a marriage license is just, like, a guarantee that we've got no future.
André: Your record speaks for itself.
Anna: Oh, my record has been strategically edited. Certainly elements have been redacted, you know, because I wouldn't get clearance otherwise. And I graduated with the highest marks at the academy. And I landed a plum assignment. I was really arrogant. I was very immature. That's a bad combination right there. [Sniffles] Because I thought I was smarter than the system. You know? If the DVX was willing to pay for information... why shouldn't I accept it? No doubt someone from our side was paying one of them for the same thing. And if I was going to risk my life, then I deserved compensation. I was that cynical. I thought I was worldly, but I wasn't. I was just very naive. [Sighs] That's how I talked myself into being a double agent. People died because of me. And I had to run, then, for my life... and go underground. I wasn't able to raise my own child. So, when you say that Valentin -- his claims don't sound like it was me, you're wrong. I mean, it's not who I am today. But that's definitely who I was.
André: [Sighs] Anna. You tend to judge yourself very harshly. There's no chance that Valentin is the one who's lying?
Anna: Maybe we've both been lied to.
Julian: Hello, Alexis.
Alexis: No. No. No.
Julian: You know, I had feeling you might be drinking again, so I came here to stop you from making a big mistake.
Alexis: No. No. No, no, no. This is not real. This is not real. This is not real. This --
Julian: I heard you ask me to stop you from drinking, so here I am.
Alexis: No. [Sighs] It's just a vision. [Muttering indistinctly] Stop. Stop it. Please, leave me -- leave me alone.
Julian: Not until you get rid of that bottle.
Alexis: Well, you're a little late, 'cause I've been drinking all day today.
Julian: It's never too late to stop.
Alexis: You have no business telling me what to do anymore. You know, I read your letter. I saw your explanation. That you didn't mean to hurt me and that your sister forced you to do everything.
Julian: I was actually saving your life. I was protecting you.
Alexis: If you had protected me... you would have told me the truth. See, if you had done that, maybe I wouldn't be drinking in the first place.
Ava: I don't have that kind of money at my fingertips.
Lucy: Oh! Oh, you know, no worries. That's no problem at all. I completely understand. You know, I know someone will probably come forward. Mm, probably Sonny and Carly.
Ava: All right. All right. I agree to your amount. If you could just give me a couple of days, I can move some assets around, and I'll have your money.
Lucy: Thing is, I don't have a couple days. No, because my itemized Nurses' Ball budget has to be turned in first thing in the morning, so... I guess you could get me the cash by, say, tonight.
Ava: I'm not sure that I can do that.
Lucy: Oh. Well, then we have a problem, don't we?
Carly: You decide our marriage is over, and I don't get a say in it one way or another?
Sonny: What marriage? We're in some kind of strange limbo.
Carly: Who put us there? Who -- who made it so I can't stand the thought of living in this house or ever sleeping in that bed again, Sonny? Who did that?
Sonny: I know, Carly! I messed up! But you keep dangling forgiveness in my face and taking it away. Is our marriage worth fighting for, or not?
Carly: You know... I was willing to overlook everything you said to me earlier because I just said you didn't mean it and you got carried away, but here you are -- you're doing it again.
Sonny: Doing what, Carly?
Carly: You cheated! You lied to me! And you're standing here and you're giving me an ultimatum because I'm not forgiving you and you want me to! I do not forgive you, Sonny. So if you want to end our marriage, that's fine with me.
Tracy: Ashton, you have absolutely no idea what my father would want. I'm gonna find that painting myself.
Ava: I will start making some calls. I'm -- I'm sure that I can find a way to get you that money by tonight, okay?
Lucy: Okay. I look forward to hearing from you, and as soon as I get confirmation of the transfer of the funds...
[Pills rattle]
Lucy: ...The pills are yours.
Ava: You are making the right choice.
Lucy: Actually, I think I am, because I do not believe telling Sonny and Carly that you were trysting with Morgan before he died -- still -- would solve anything. I just think it would open up old wounds. So... this has been fun. You know, swell. So I'm gonna go, and, uh, really... a pleasure. Ta!
Ava: Great. Now, how the hell am I gonna get that much money on such short notice?
Tracy: Ava Jerome. I need your help. It's about a painting.
Sonny: So, you're ready to walk away from our marriage?
Carly: According to you, we don't have a marriage. And I guess you're right, because you would have warned me about Nelle. You would have told me the truth.
Sonny: Morgan had just died. I didn't want you to handle anything else. I didn't --
Carly: That is bull! You demand honesty, and your first instinct is to lie to me. That's not a real marriage! You want me to commit and you want me to be all in, and there are parts of you that you never let me see! And I refuse to be shut out again. It's not happening.
Sonny: Well, who's making excuses now? My business has always been about secrets, period. You know that. You've always known that.
Carly: And I've tried to accept it, Sonny. And I have tried to accept you. And I have tried to trust you. But this always happens! You let things reach to a boiling point, and they just explode -- just like they are now! You do this!
Sonny: I have let you into my heart more than anybody in my life. I have moved mountains to do that. Why do you always focus on the things that I can't do?
Lulu: Dante told me that he talked to Michael about Nelle, and apparently Michael is furious with her.
Laura: [Scoffs] That's not what it looked like to me at Kelly's. I mean, he seemed open enough, and, I don't know, it was almost friendly.
Lulu: Well, I mean, that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Laura: But if Nelle wants to be back in Michael's good graces, it would make sense for her to endear herself to you and to Dante.
Lulu: It sounds like Nelle doesn't have a friend in town. Do you think that she would really do anything to alienate Valentin and Nina?
[Door opens]
Valentin: I thought I made it clear that we have nothing more to say to each other?
Anna: Yes. I disagree with you because, um, I've figured it out. So, when you were working as an analyst, you had access to information that wound up in the hands of the DVX, right? And you were questioned.
Valentin: I was interrogated. The results were inconclusive.
Anna: And you disappeared before you could be questioned again. Yes, I've read all the transcripts.
Valentin: Then you know why we should have nothing to do with each other.
Anna: You're wrong. Just hear me out. I think we've both been played.
Alexis: I spent months trying to understand who you had become. And I couldn't process that someone I loved so much could become so abusive and so frightening. Because you kept me in the dark, I hurt myself. I lost my husband, my law license, my self-respect. All because you didn't give me the facts.
Julian: I did what I did to keep everyone safe. I don't know what else I can say to make you realize that.
Alexis: Nothing. Because you're not really here. I'm just imagining you... and whatever you're saying is what I want to hear. You're not real.
Julian: Well, you're right, Alexis. I'm not really here. I am in your mind. Which means it's not actually me telling you to put the bottle down. It's you telling yourself.
Alexis: [Sighs]
Julian: I'm just a manifestation of what you already know. You need to get back to AA. What would Sam say if she were here right now? What if she had Danny and Scout with her? Alexis, what about Molly and Kristina? And getting your law license back?
Alexis: Mm.
Julian: You have too much to live for.
Alexis: I do. But not with you. [Sighs]
Julian: A little piece of me will always be with you. Right here. In your heart.
Alexis: [Sighs] [Sighing] [Breathes shakily] [Exhales sharply]
Ned: I -- we -- are gonna be at The Floating Rib tonight. The place where we had our very first date.
Olivia: I remember.
Ned: And I'm gonna propose to you again. And however you respond, I will accept that as your final answer.
[Kiss]
Ava: Tracy. What can I do you for?
Tracy: It has come to my attention that a painting belonging to my family, done by a Renaissance master, was left somewhere in Turkey. I figure if there is anybody who can help me find it, it's you.
Ava: Well, I'd be more than happy to help you. For a price.
Carly: So, I have to forgive you right now, and I have to accept that I'm going to be lied to and that you're gonna keep secrets and that you get to decide what I can and cannot know, and our marriage is going to be on your terms or not at all? Is that right?
Sonny: That's not what I'm asking, Carly.
Carly: You're not asking anything. You're demanding.
Sonny: Why are you twisting everything around?
Carly: I'm not. [Scoffs]
Sonny: Look. I love you. More than anything. I'd give my life for you. But I never pretended to be anything different than what I am. You knew the first time we slept together, first time we got married, even more so the fifth time... but if who I am right now, how I live doesn't work for you... there's the door. [Exhales sharply]
Carly: This is me walking out the door, and I'm not coming back.
[Door opens, slams]
Sonny: Son of a --
[Glass shatters]
Laura: Just to clarify, I don't think we should use Nelle to try to get more visitation time with Charlotte, because if the judge were to find out about that, Lulu, it would tank our whole case.
Lulu: Well, then how is she an advantage for us?
Laura: I'm not sure yet, but I think you should make friends with her. You know, it sounds like she needs a friend anyway, and then, when Valentin tries to do something to sabotage your relationship with Charlotte, she will be there to witness it. You'll have an ally under his roof.
Lulu: An ally...or a spy.
Valentin: One of us got played. And it wasn't you.
Anna: But I think there's more to the story than either one of us knew.
Valentin: You see -- I know the story. I know the story. It's not very flattering to me, is it? I was a rising star in counter-intelligence and threat analysis. My papers were highly regarded. And you tracked me down. Persuaded me to access highly classified intelligence for something you needed for a special assignment.
Anna: Yeah, but don't you see? That wasn't me. A third party evoked my name and had you do that --
Valentin: It wasn't a third party. What are you talking about? You asked me yourself. Right after we slept together.
On the next "General Hospital" --
Dante (to Nathan): So, what does that mean for you, her newly wedded husband?
Amy: Finally, I get the chance to shine! [Giggles]
Jordan (to Curtis): Congratulations, Officer Ashford!
Nina (to Griffin): Anna has been after Valentin since he arrived in Port Charles.
Anna (to Valentin): You have to believe me!
Ned (to Olivia): Tonight... it's about us.
Ava (to Tracy): Aah! [Laughs] I got it.
