Jax: It's too bad you were stranded on the roof by yourself. If I'd been with you, we may have enjoyed being caught in the rain shower.
Courtney: Easy for you to say. You're not the one who's soaking wet. I can't wait to get dry.
Jax: I'm going to take you home.
Courtney: Ok.
Jax: Take care.
Nikolas: Yeah, you, too.
Courtney: Bye.
Emily: Bye.
Nikolas: You knew I was on the roof with Courtney. Why didn't you bust us for lying?
Lorenzo: You want to stay here tonight?
Sonny: Michael's remembered he didn't kill A.J.
Carly: It's finally over, which makes it sort of Michael’s first real night home, and I just wanted us to be together as a family.
Jason: I was lying in I.C.U., and I heard a nurse say that A.J. wanted to see Dr. Thomas. Now, if there is a connection with Dr. Thomas and A.J., how far do you think he'll go to protect that secret?
Dr. Thomas' voice: When I count to three, you're going to wake up and remember Dr. Adair killed A.J., not me.
[Dr. Thomas whistles]
Dr. Thomas: You know, I'm flattered, but if you can't keep away from my office, which I'd really prefer, I'd appreciate it if you'd knock before you enter.
Reese: I'm retracing the final hours of Rachel Adair’s life. When did you last see her?
Dr. Thomas: I barely knew the woman.
Reese: You knew she was dead.
Dr. Thomas: Yes, it's tragic.
Reese: And convenient, considering the fact that Rachel told me she saw you coming out of A.J.'s room the night he died and I confronted you about it. So Rachel gets away with murder and kills herself and decides to leave a confession. Less than 24 hours later, Michael, who's been traumatized for months, suddenly realizes that Rachel killed A.J. and, you know, it all fits. It's almost as if somebody planned the whole thing that way.
[Knock on door]
Dr. Thomas: Come in.
Jesse: Dr. Thomas, I'm Detective Beaudry. This is Officer Spencer. We'd like to ask you a few questions about Rachel Adair.
Emily: Obviously, Courtney fibbed to Jax about being alone on the roof. I didn't want to put her on the spot.
Nikolas: It didn't strike you as strange that she would lie and I'd back her up?
Emily: See, I've heard from Lucky and Elizabeth that Jax is pretty over the top about Elizabeth’s surrogacy, and Courtney’s probably feeling the stress. If saying that she was alone on the roof is a way to keep the peace, then why shouldn't we back her up?
Nikolas: Well, that was considerate of you.
Emily: Yeah -- well, yeah, sometimes people have good reasons to keep things to themselves, especially when they want to spare someone they love.
Jax: I'll get the fire going.
Courtney: Sounds good. Be back in a minute.
Jax: Hey, you know, if you're looking for contributions for your charity, you should ask Nikolas. I know the Cassadines are going through a restructuring of their holdings, but from what I hear, Nikolas is turning things around.
Courtney: I need help.
Jax: Oh. You came to the right place.
Courtney: My zipper's stuck.
Jax: Really?
Courtney: Can you get it for me?
Jax: Absolutely. Let me get that. There. There we go.
Courtney: Thank you.
Lorenzo: Michael, I'm glad you're feeling better. Your mom's been worried, and I know she's relieved now that the truth has finally come out. You'd like her to stay here tonight, wouldn't you?
Michael: Yeah, I would.
Lorenzo: Well, then this is where she should be.
Michael: Thanks.
Lorenzo: I'll see you tomorrow.
[Morgan fusses]
Sonny: Hey.
Carly: What's the matter?
Michael: Take this, just in case.
Sonny: Ok, you know, your mom staying here tonight is wonderful. It's great, right? But you know it's a one-time thing, right?
Michael: I know that.
Sonny: All right.
Michael: Mom's still married to Mr. Alcazar.
Sonny: Yes, and we all have to be understanding, no matter how we feel. Ain't that right?
Michael: Yep.
Carly: Thank you so much for understanding.
Lorenzo: Doing what you need to do.
Carly: I just don't want you to think this is some first step towards reuniting with Sonny, because it's not.
Lorenzo: I meant what I said to Michael. I'm glad he's better. It's all right with me if he wants to spend time with his mother.
Carly: I just want to be here with him, to reassure him that this whole ordeal is finally over. I love you. Thank you.
Lucky: What are you doing here?
Reese: Just chatting with Dr. Thomas.
Lucky: Well, you're going to have to wait outside.
Reese: All right.
Dr. Thomas: Ahem.
Jesse: How well did you know Dr. Adair?
Dr. Thomas: Uh -- well, we were colleagues, just professionally.
Lucky: Why'd she come to you the night she died?
Dr. Thomas: She had questions about the Michael Corinthos case.
Lucky: Why?
Dr. Thomas: She was concerned about him. I mean, she knew that he'd been traumatized and she wanted to know the progress of his recovery.
Jesse: Did she say anything about A.J. Quartermaine?
Dr. Thomas: No.
Jesse: What was her state of mind? Was she agitated or depressed?
Dr. Thomas: Yeah, actually, yes. I mean, she seemed almost desperate to hear that Michael was going to be ok, and when I couldn't reassure her, she -- she seemed to reach some kind of resolution. Yeah, looking back on it, I realize now that she -- she must have been contemplating suicide.
[Noise]
Alan: Why are you sitting there in the dark?
Monica: Well, I was wondering what you were doing out on the terrace.
Alan: I was just taking a walk in mother's rose garden.
Monica: At night?
Alan: Well, it's very beautiful in the moonlight, and it makes me feel close to her.
Monica: You know, it's funny, Alan. All these years other people have kept us together -- Lila, our children. Now -- Jason?
Jason: It's good. You're both here.
Monica: Sam.
Alan: Is Michael all right?
Jason: Yeah, he's fine. I need to know about the accident 10 years ago.
Monica: What?
Alan: What about it?
Sam: We need specifics on the treatment of Jason’s injury.
Monica: Well, we've told you all that.
Jason: I think you know more and you've been covering it up.
Jax: You warmer?
Courtney: Definitely. This is so much more enjoyable than a bath.
Jax: Well, I certainly hope so.
Courtney: And I never got to thank you for those flowers you brought to the hospital. They were beautiful.
Jax: You know, you deserve flowers every single day.
Courtney: Are you going to be this sweet for the rest of our lives? Hmm?
Jax: Would you prefer bad tempered and cold? Because I could work on that.
Courtney: No. Jax, I'm serious. I mean, you -- you are so thoughtful and generous. You know, you really make an effort to make me feel special.
Jax: It's because I love you. You're my wife. And soon you're going to be the mother of our child.
Courtney: I'm sorry I've had such a hard time with it.
Jax: Yeah, I know. I know you've had a hard time with the surrogacy, but just eight more months and you'll be holding our little baby girl or boy. It'll all be worth it.
Courtney: You're right. In the meantime, I don't want there to be any secrets between us, which is why I want to tell you that I wasn't alone on the hospital roof. I was with Nikolas Cassadine.
Nikolas: Are you saying that it's all right to be dishonest about our -- about our feelings?
Emily: No, I'm saying that sometimes the stark truth can be hurtful.
Nikolas: So it's ok to lie to protect each other?
Emily: No, but we don't have to hash out every single detail.
Nikolas: Well, Emily, we're far enough apart as it is already, don't you think? I mean, we don't share a life anymore, not really. We barely even share a bed. I mean, come on, we smile at each other like passing guests at the same hotel and stay busy with work that keeps us even further apart. I mean, we spend so much time trying not to hurt each other; we end up not connecting at all.
Emily: I know that you wish that I could move along faster, but this is the best that I can do right now.
Nikolas: I just -- I keep wondering if -- if we're doing more harm than good right now by sidestepping the big issues. I mean, we avoid conflict completely, and we avoid uncomfortable questions all the time.
Emily: Well, and maybe right now that's the one thing that can save us.
Carly: Sweet dreams, sweetheart. We're so happy to have you home.
Michael: Will the nightmares come back?
Carly: I don't think so. But if you get scared, then just call us and we'll be here.
Michael: I know. It was kind of fun, sleeping in a boat. My bed was always rocking back and forth. The water lapping against the side of the boat worked a lot better than counting sheep.
Sonny: So you didn't mind being on a boat?
Michael: Well, it was kind of scary --
Sonny: Yeah.
Michael: Leaving home so fast and not knowing when you're coming back. Sam and Jason made it a lot better.
Sonny: Yeah. I wish you never had to have gone through this. But you know what? Through it all, you were strong, you were brave, and you never left your brother or sister. You stayed with them. You know, you had a chance to get away, you fought to the end, and you never gave up.
Michael: I didn't have much choice, did I?
Sonny: No. You are a survivor. And nobody can knock you down. You know who you kind of remind me of?
Michael: Who?
Sonny: Your mama. And I'm very, very proud to have you as my son.
Alan: For 10 years, you refused to talk about the accident or your recovery.
Jason: Yeah, well, I want to talk about it now.
Alan: You turned your back on our family and you rejected any effort we made toward having a relationship with you, and now, out of the blue, you want our help?
Monica: Stop it, Alan. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, Jason.
Jason: Ok. How much involvement did Dr. Thomas have in treating me?
Monica: Well, Tony Jones diagnosed you and he supervised all your treatments, called in other doctors to consult, including Kevin Collins and Asher Thomas.
Sam: But they were psychiatrists. They must have been there when Jason woke up.
Monica: There was an intermediate period. Jason was comatose, but occasionally he would open his eyes. And when we saw that he wasn't completely unconscious, we called in psychiatrists to test his cognitive responses.
Sam: Ok, so Dr. Thomas was still treating Jason while he was comatose?
Monica: Well, yeah, that's right.
Jason: Where was A.J. during all this? Did he know Dr. Thomas?
Reese: So did Dr. Thomas mention that Rachel Adair saw him coming out of A.J. Quartermaine's hospital room the night that he died?
Lucky: Who told you about that?
Reese: I went to see Rachel Adair to question her about A.J.'s death.
Jesse: Well, is she suggesting that Dr. Thomas killed A.J.?
Reese: She gave me the facts. She said she noticed the time on the wall clock.
Lucky: Dr. Adair has a history of lying.
Reese: Yeah. Still, though, it's interesting that Dr. Thomas was one of the last people to see her alive, isn't it?
[Phone rings]
Lucky: Excuse me. Spencer. What about the autopsy? They'll only tell you.
Jesse: Detective Beaudry.
Jesse: Thanks. Rachel Adair died of an overdose of barbiturates. There's no sign or indication of force or coercion.
Lucky: And what about the suicide note?
Jesse: It's her handwriting.
Reese: So the evidence checks out. Rachel Adair killed herself.
Jax: Why would you lie about being on the roof with Nikolas?
Courtney: I didn't mean to, Jax. You just automatically jumped to the conclusion that I was on the roof alone.
Jax: Well, you could have said you weren’t.
Courtney: Yeah, but it just seemed easier to say nothing.
Jax: Why, unless you thought that you -- that you had to hide something.
Courtney: No, not at all.
Jax: I mean, I walked in on you and Nikolas at the Cassadine stables. I mean, is there something I should know about?
Courtney: Jax, I walked over there by myself. I did. And Nikolas and Emily walked in, and I overheard them have a pretty big fight. Anyway, Emily left and Nikolas saw me and, I mean, it was pointless to pretend like I hadn't overheard. So he ended up opening up to me about, you know, problems that he was having with Emily.
Jax: Right. And today?
Courtney: Well, we just -- we wound up locked on the roof together, and -- while we were waiting for someone to come find us, he ended up confiding in me again about their difficulties, and I didn't want to embarrass him in front of Emily, so I just -- I acted like nothing had happened.
Jax: Even to me.
Courtney: Look, Jax, I shouldn't have hid the truth from you. I just -- I acted in the moment, and I made -- I made the wrong choice. Hey, I'm really sorry.
[Phone rings]
Jax: This is Jacks.
Elizabeth: Jax, it's Elizabeth. My car broke down, and I'm stranded with Cameron. I hate to ask you this, but Lucky's on duty, and I can't call him. Emily's working, too, and Nikolas' cell is off.
Jax: Um -- look, I'll come and get you. Where are you?
Elizabeth: The corner of Euclid and Main.
Jax: Ok, just sit tight. I'm on my way.
Elizabeth: Thanks. I really appreciate it.
Jax: No problem, Elizabeth.
Courtney: Elizabeth is stranded?
Jax: Yeah, her car broke down, so I'm going to go pick her up.
Courtney: Jax, you could send a car with a driver or a cab --
Jax: Yeah, I know, but it'll be faster if I do it. Besides, I want to go. She's pregnant, and I'm going to make sure she's ok. Why don't you come?
Courtney: No, thanks.
Jax: All right. Well, I won't be long.
Alan: A.J. was deeply concerned about you, Jason. We all were. We were speaking constantly to the doctors about your condition.
Sam: Do you remember A.J. talking to Dr. Thomas?
Monica: Well, I'm sure he did. I don't remember anything in particular.
Sam: No meetings or private conversations, anything like that?
Alan: If you're trying to paint Dr. Thomas as a bad guy, you're wasting your time.
Sam: He's the one common thread in all of this.
Alan: And that makes him guilty of what? It's not his fault that Durant stole the tapes with all the notes he had on Michael.
Sam: Ok, you know what? Forget Dr. Thomas for a second, ok? When Jason was in the coma after the accident, who was with him day in and day out?
Monica: Well, the whole family. We were there with him round the clock. We would take turns.
Sam: And after that?
Monica: Well, when he didn't show any signs of recovery, we were there with him during the day, but we would go home at night. So that's why he was alone when --
Sam: When?
Monica: When his heart stopped. It was the middle of the night, and all of a sudden, he went into Code Blue and almost died.
Reese: Hey. So the results of the autopsy on Rachel Adair just came in, and I thought you'd want to know she killed herself.
Sonny: The coroner's sure?
Reese: It's definitive.
Sonny: That's a relief.
Reese: All right, you don't seem too happy about the news.
Sonny: Well, you obviously think something else is going on.
Reese: Sonny, I'm sorry, but I just can't shake this convenient-timing thing. One day Rachel is telling me that she saw Dr. Thomas come out of A.J.'s hospital room the night he died, and then --
Sonny: Right.
Reese: Suddenly she up and kills herself?
Sonny: Ok, when you talked to her, did she seem suicidal?
Reese: No. Not at all. And then Dr. Thomas, he saw her shortly after I did. He tells the cops that she seems upset and agitated.
Sonny: You think he's lying?
Reese: Sonny, I think he's been lying about a lot of things.
Sonny: Ok, what would his motive be to kill A.J.?
Reese: I don't know. That's what totally frustrates me. I don't know. I mean, on paper, it looks like I shouldn't even be investigating this process at all. But there it is. Rachel, she confesses, she kills herself, and Dr. Thomas is in the clear.
Sonny: But your gut is telling you something's off with this guy.
Reese: It might seem like I'm just grasping at straws here, Sonny.
Sonny: No, no, no, no, no, no, hey, you know, there's a lot of unanswered questions about -- I don't like this shrink. But I'm not going to take a chance with my son. What's done is done.
Reese: I am so happy to hear that, because that is a huge weight off my mind.
Sonny: And I know that I've told you a lot, and I'll keep telling you a lot, that it means a lot to me that you've done what you've done for Michael.
Reese: Well, you know I care deeply for Michael and his father.
Carly: Oh! I didn't know you had a visitor.
Reese: I didn't know you were here, either.
Carly: As a matter of fact, I'm spending the night.
Jesse: And for the record, we'll get further in this case if you stop resenting the fact that I'm your superior.
Lucky: Yeah, well, thanks for the reminder.
John: Ah, gentlemen, there you are. I'd like you to pull your notes on the Rachel Adair case.
Jesse: We're on our way back to the PCPD to close the file.
John: Uh-uh, no, no, no. You can’t.
Lucky: No, forensics came back. It's officially a suicide.
John: Yeah, well, I'm going to be asking for a second autopsy, but I'm going to need evidence to back it up. I want you to go back to your notes; I want you to find the mistake that was made at the scene of the crime -- signs of a struggle that was overlooked, a chain of evidence that was broken. Find me something.
Lucky: No, no, no. We can't admit to a mistake that wasn't made.
John: You, you -- whoa, whoa, hot shot, you're not getting this, are you? Think, think, think, think. Rachel Adair did not commit suicide. She was murdered by Sonny Corinthos to cover up the fact that Michael, my grandson, killed A.J. Quartermaine.
Jesse: Any evidence that leads you to believe that?
John: I know. 20 years of being a prosecutor -- experience. I know. I just need you two to find me the proof.
Lucky: In other words, you just want us to manufacture evidence. That may be the way you work, Durant, but I don’t.
John: Are you having money problems there, Spencer? I mean, what, is Corinthos paying you to make Rachel Adair’s murder look like a suicide?
Sonny: Carly's spending the night just to be close with Michael because of everything that's happened, you know?
Carly: Yeah, my son is finally free of the terrible guilt that you piled on him when you jumped to the conclusion that he killed A.J.
Reese: Oh, come on.
Sonny: We all believed it, Carly. I mean, you know, Michael told us he did it, so --
Carly: Yeah, but she put the thought in his head.
Sonny: Yeah, but we're his parents. We should've seen right through that, right?
Carly: Right.
Sonny: Right.
Carly: And we have a special connection to Michael, which is exactly why we're all staying here as a family -- to reassure him that the nightmare is finally over and he's going to be with the people that he loves.
Reese: You know what? Michael's been through a terrible ordeal and the last thing he needs is stress and tension, so you know what, Sonny? I'm going to say good night.
Sonny: All right.
Reese: Ok?
Sonny: All right. I'll call you tomorrow?
Reese: Yeah, you better. Ahem.
Sonny: Did you enjoy that, Carly?
Carly: Yeah, I -- I kind of did, actually.
Sonny: Because running Reese off tonight -- it doesn't change anything long-term, so I just want you to know that.
Carly: Yeah, I mean, whatever. I mean, if you -- but I don't know what you see in that woman, but you're going out with her, so that's your business. I'm happily married to Lorenzo.
Sonny: Sure you are.
Carly: Lorenzo knows that I'm staying here because of Michael.
Sonny: No, what Lorenzo knows -- I'll tell you what Lorenzo knows is that you're staying at your ex-husband's house.
Carly: I'm not staying here because of you, Sonny. I have a life with Lorenzo now and that's exactly what I want.
Sonny: Whatever.
Carly: Oh, you don't believe me?
Sonny: No, no, because you don't believe yourself.
Carly: This is a mistake. Staying here sends mixed messages. If Michael wakes up, tell him I'll be back in the morning.
Sonny: Carly, you don't have to leave. It's -- you know --
Carly: No, I mean, look at it this way -- now you're free to call Reese and invite her over.
Jason: What made my heart stop?
Monica: We never knew.
Sam: The doctors -- they couldn't figure it out?
Monica: Jason, the accident caused a cerebral edema, which is swelling of the brain. Now, Tony put you on medication to keep your blood pressure down to minimize the swelling. At one point -- well, actually Ned was with you -- your pressure just plummeted and he had to take you off the medication, which made you stabilized. And then it was -- it was a week later. Actually, it was January 17 to be exact -- your heart stopped. I mean, it was the middle of the night, it was all of a sudden, then the alarms went off and the I.C.U. staff revived you.
Sam: Jason was still in a coma, right?
Monica: Yeah. Well, other than opening your eyes occasionally, you weren't showing any signs of recovery. Actually, the doctors had -- had told us that we should probably prepare for you being in a vegetative state and eventually being institutionalized.
Sam: You must have been devastated.
Monica: Yeah. We were. But -- but you were strong. You defied all the odds and you -- you woke up. You not only woke up, you made a life for yourself and -- and I thank God every day, Jason, that -- that those doctors were wrong.
Sam: Monica, thank you for filling in the blanks. We appreciate it.
Monica: Well, I wish I could be more helpful. If there's anything you need, you call me, ok?
Jason: Thank you.
Alan: You're wrong. Jason never woke up.
Monica: That's because you tried to kill him!
Jesse: Lucky, let it go! Let it go!
Lucky: No one says I'm on the take.
John: You want to avoid a suspension? You bring me proof that Rachel Adair was murdered by Sonny Corinthos.
Jesse: What the hell were you thinking, jumping the D.A.?
Lucky: He says I'm on Sonny's payroll.
Jesse: You just gave Durant the leverage that he wanted, you know that?
Lucky: Ok, you know what? It's about that crack he made about my money problems.
Jesse: So what?
Lucky: Yeah.
Jesse: No one joins the force to get rich.
Lucky: Yeah, most cops aren't letting their fiancées pay their medical bills by having another man's baby, either.
Sam: Dr. Thomas? Keep an eye out.
Jason: How about you keep an eye out and I pick a lock?
Sam: No, no, no, Jason. I'm quicker, please. There I go. Here's Michael’s file.
Jason: Anything interesting?
Sam: No. I mean, it's a bunch of handwritten notes, nothing new. A.J. is mentioned here, but only as Michael’s biological father.
Jason: Here's my -- here's my file.
Sam: On his desk?
Jason: Yeah, it's a file from around the time of the accident. It's all my charts and test results.
Sam: Oh, well, is there anything in there?
Jason: Ok, Monica said the second crisis happened January 17, right?
Sam: Yeah.
Jason: That page from my chart's missing.
Monica: All these years and now I realize it. My God! That second crisis in the middle of the night that never should've happened was a murder attempt. You tried to murder our son!
Alan: How can you say that, Monica?
Monica: Because two days earlier, Tony Jones had told us that Jason was going to be a vegetable. Our beautiful boy who was going to be a doctor was going to live a living death. And you couldn't stand that, could you, Alan?
Alan: No, I couldn't, and neither could you, but I would never do him any harm.
Monica: Oh, yes, you could because you went to his room and you gave him something to stop his heart. God knows what damage you did! He could have been dead if they hadn't come in and then revived him. You are probably responsible for his memory loss -- do you know that?
Alan: I didn't try to kill Jason, Monica.
Monica: What? What are you talking about?
Alan: I saved his life.
Monica: What?
Alan: On that night, I went up to Jason’s room and I was just going to sit with him for a few minutes and the machines' alarms went off. And I revived him before the I.C.U. staff even got there.
Monica: My God. Why didn't you tell me this?
Alan: Because I hesitated for a moment and thought to myself, maybe Jason would be better off dead than alive.
Monica: Oh.
Alan: And I was so ashamed for that moment that I hesitated. I could never bring myself to tell you. But I assure you, Monica, it was me who saved our son's life.
Nikolas: Shouldn't you be working?
Emily: Yeah, I couldn’t. I had to find you.
Nikolas: Well, I've been here for over an hour thinking about you, wondering where we go from here.
Emily: Nikolas, look, I love you, ok? I always will, and I know I've pushed you away sometimes without meaning to, but I don't want to lose you.
Nikolas: Well, I feel the same way, too, Emily, so --
Emily: Ok. Well, you know, you're not just my husband and my lover. You're -- you're my best friend and I -- I want us to be truthful, to say what we feel because if we don't, we're going to drift apart and I couldn't stand it if I lost you, Nikolas. It's --
Lorenzo: You came home.
Carly: I realized it was a mistake to stay.
Lorenzo: You wanted to make Michael feel comfortable.
Carly: I was just so happy that he was innocent of A.J.'s murder and the whole ordeal is over, but I realized that staying would set a bad precedent.
Lorenzo: Yeah. He might've thought you and Sonny were going to get back together.
Carly: And we aren't and we never will. You're my husband, the man I love. This is where I belong.
Reese's voice: Hi, this is Reese Marshall. Please leave a message.
[Answering machine beeps]
Sonny: Hi. Um -- I just -- I just want to say good night and it looks like I'm going to have to settle for your voicemail. I just want to say I apologize for -- it was kind of uncomfortable tonight, the whole thing, and I just wanted to let you know that Carly left and looks like I'll be sleeping alone tonight and -- and I'll be thinking of you.
Jason: There's no record for January 17. All the days around it but not for the day my heart stopped.
Sam: All right. Well, that can't be a coincidence. Someone must have destroyed the records of the time you almost died, and I would take bets that it was Dr. Thomas.
Jason: Those records could've been destroyed any time in the past 10 years by anyone.
Sam: Including A.J.?
Jason: Well, why -- why would he want to?
Sam: I don't know, Jason. Maybe that is the connection between A.J. and Dr. Thomas. Maybe A.J. wanted to change your record somehow. Oh.
Jason: What?
Sam: Well, there must have been something on this tape that someone didn't want us to hear -- Dr. Thomas.
Dr. Thomas: Find what you were looking for?
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Emily: What are you doing out here? Waiting for Nikolas?
Alan: Don't worry, A.J., I'll make sure that all your secrets die with you.
Dr. Thomas: You give me one good reason why I shouldn't call the police.
Jason: How about this one?
