Emily: Is there any news?
Man: You shouldn't be out here in the woods by yourself.
Emily: Well, I'm not. You and the other rescue workers are here.
Man: Actually, we're just leaving.
Emily: Change of shift?
Man: Change of protocol. They're taking us off active rescue.
Emily: What? You can't give up. Nikolas is still out there.
Man: The search will continue.
Emily: Wait, you have given up on finding him alive.
Mary: I love you, Connor. I always have, and I always will.
Mary: Please don't pull away.
Sam: What happened?
Sonny: The details aren't important. You know what's important is that you're safe.
Sam: So I guess there's no reason for me to stay anymore. My wound is healed, and --
Sonny: Right.
Sam: And I have my strength back, so I should just go upstairs --
Sonny: No, wait, wait, wait, come here, come here, come here, come here. Forget "should," ok? You do what you want.
Lorenzo: What?
Carly: He was standing right next to you, Lorenzo. You asked me to give him directions.
Lorenzo: Obviously, I can't describe him.
Carly: It was the same man.
Lorenzo: Really?
Carly: Yeah, really.
Lorenzo: You're sure it was the same man?
Carly: Yes, I’m sure. Aren't you?
Lorenzo: Obviously, I didn't see him.
Carly: Didn't you recognize his voice?
Justus: Courtney didn't want any. Mrs. Phillips' gift has made Courtney a wealthy woman.
Jason: Well, something could happen. The woman could sue and get her money back. I want Courtney protected.
Justus: Why?
Jason: Well, because it's the right thing to do, that's why.
Justus: You know what I think? Courtney would have refused alimony even if she was still waiting tables at Kelly’s.
Jason: You know what? I'm not going to sign these papers the way they are.
Justus: Jason, it's going to complicate the process if I have to go back and change this thing for alimony in the event that she should somehow lose money.
Jason: Just take care of it, ok?
Justus: Fine. I'll construct a more complex divorce agreement with new clauses and codicils, which Courtney’s going to have to approve anyway. Maybe between the two of you, you can drag this divorce out indefinitely.
Mike: To mend a broken heart?
Courtney: Stop thinking of yourself as being married to the person you're not married to anymore, stop hating the thought that he might find someone else, stop wishing that one morning you'll wake up, and magically, you'll be back together with the person you fell in love with. How long does it take to just accept that it is over and move on with the rest of your life?
Ric: Lucky, you know as well as I do we do not have the manpower for that.
Lucky: Lansing, my brother's still alive.
Ross: Hey, that search warrant came through for Corinthos' apartment.
Ric: Great. Thanks. That was fast. All right, I’ll meet you downstairs.
Ross: All right.
[Ric sighs]
Lucky: So you don't have time to search for my brother, but you have enough time to go searching through Sonny's apartment for the umpteenth time? What the hell do you think you're going to find that no cop or D.A. has ever found before?
Ric: Lucky, Sonny committed he shot someone.
Lucky: I heard, ok? Somebody broke into Carly’s apartment, and Sonny shot him. You have no case, Ric. You're just wasting time and manpower for some grudge you have against your brother. My brother's life is at stake!
Ric: Sonny's been a constant problem for law enforcement in this town. Now, he shot somebody under questionable circumstances. This is the best chance we've ever had to get him, Lucky, and I’m not going to let it slip away.
Sam: True.
Sonny: And you know, I mean -- this was supposed to be temporary, and we both knew that, right?
Sam: Yep.
Sonny: And you're not going to like it if I change the rules.
Sam: Is that what you're doing?
Sonny: Here I am. You've been here, what, you know, a little bit of time, and I'm asking to take care of you when you've convinced yourself that you can make it on your own.
Sam: It's because I have done it for years.
Sonny: I know that. Well, then maybe it's -- it's time for a change.
Sam: You think that's the effect you have on women, don't you? A few nights in bed, they cling to you, hopelessly? No, it would probably serve you right if I marched right up there, packed my bags, and cleared out of here tonight.
Sonny: That's what you're going to do? You're just going to leave?
Sam: Haven't you been listening to a word I said?
Sonny: Well, I kind of have, but I guess I kind of missed a few words because I didn't really hear yes or no.
Carly: It just seems so weird. I mean, why would anyone go up to a blind man and ask for directions when there's sighted people standing nearby?
Lorenzo: He was beside me. I suppose I assumed he was waiting for someone, if I thought about it at all.
Carly: Lorenzo, didn't you recognize his voice? I mean, I heard him talking to you. What did he say?
Lorenzo: Something about Jason.
Carly: Yeah? Well, what exactly?
Lorenzo: I wasn't paying attention to his words. I was too focused on where his voice was coming from so that I could jump him.
Carly: Yeah, well, you took a terrible chance.
Lorenzo: What was the alternative? I wasn't going to stand by and let him just attack you and your children. At least I was able to slow him down until Sonny got here.
Carly: Then I told Sonny to stay away. I'm glad for once that he did not listen to me.
Lorenzo: I'm grateful Sonny was here. He saved you.
Carly: Lorenzo --
Lorenzo: Carly, I didn't care about the timbre of the killer's voice or whether I’d heard it before. I was just waiting, feeling his presence, knowing that I had one chance to take him down before he headed to that bedroom. And I would have died, Carly, before I let him hurt you.
Carly: You are brave and you're strong and you did everything you could. That means the world to me, Lorenzo.
Sonny: Hi. You look real innocent when you sleep.
Sam: Really? Looks can be deceiving sometimes.
Sonny: I promised you that dinner. Remember that? I got some pasta. I got some salmon. Whatever you want, I can make it for you.
Sam: You're pretty confident, aren't you?
Sonny: About cooking dinner?
Sam: No. No, about other things, too. Like your assumption that I would like to hang around.
Sonny: You don't want to?
Sam: Maybe. I mean, for a home-cooked meal, yeah. Maybe.
Sonny: I'll tell you what I’ll do -- I -- as soon as I cook you that dinner --
Sam: Mm-hmm.
Sonny: I'll try to figure out other reasons, you know, to get you to stay. How's that?
Sam: You could always ask.
Max: Whoa, whoa --
Ric: No, I have a warrant, Max.
Max: I don't care what you have.
Ric: Step aside, or you're going to be arrested, you understand me? Officer, open the door. Well, don't get up. I know my way around.
Mike: Jason.
Jason: Uh, can I talk to Courtney?
Mike: Sure, sure. Don't mind me. Take all the time you need.
Courtney: Look, I'm sorry for going off on you at Sonny’s. You're free to do whatever you want.
Jason: I'm guarding Sam for Sonny, that's it.
Courtney: Yeah, well, Sam may have different ideas.
Jason: You know, she's weird. She liked that dress. Sonny gave it to her or something.
Courtney: All right, you know, there's no point in us debating Sam’s motives. The point is I’m not angry with you. I'm angry at her.
Jason: Can we forget about Sam? She's not our problem. This divorce is.
Lucky: Emily, I thought you were going to try to go home and get some rest.
Emily: Not until Nikolas is found. Why didn't you tell me the rescue mission was called off?
Lucky: The teams are still out.
Emily: For a search and retrieval. Lucky, they're looking for Nikolas' body.
Lucky: Emily, they're still looking.
Emily: How hard are they going to work to find a dead man? Nikolas is alive, Lucky. I'm sure of it. Which means that he is probably inside somewhere.
Lucky: Emily, I want to believe that as much as you do. But the jacket and --
Emily: Ok, look, he was dazed from the accident. Maybe he rested on the riverbank for a while. The cold woke him up, he got out, he got shelter in a barn or a house or --
Lucky: Emily, we've been to every dwelling within miles. There's no sign of him.
Emily: Try again.
Lucky: You're right. Our time might be better spent if we expand the search area.
Emily: Ok. The jacket was a false lead, which means that Nikolas is still in these woods; somewhere close, I'm sure of it.
Nikolas: Wait. Did I do something wrong?
Mary: Oh, no. No. No. No, you're wonderful. It's just -- as far as you remember, we're strangers to each other. I don't know how I possibly thought that we could just pick up our marriage where we left off. You don't remember loving me. You're just forcing yourself to go through the motions and -- and trying to be the husband that I lost.
Nikolas: I'm not lost. Hey, the love you told me about, it won't disappear just because of some bump on the head. Ok? I mean, I -- I'm a master carpenter whose hands have forgotten how to use a chisel, but they'll -- they'll remember little by little. And so will my heart. And we just -- we just have to have faith that that will happen, and it will. It will if you can give me some time.
Mary: Take all the time you need. We have the rest of our lives, Connor.
Nikolas: I know.
Mary: We don't have to rush anything.
Nikolas: I know. It's just -- it tires me out not remembering anything. Now, that may not make any sense to you, but that's the only way that --
Mary: No. I want to understand.
Nikolas: It's like -- it's like everything that I look at, you know, and everything that I feel has the potential to bring my life back to me, and I keep hoping that it'll be that simple, you know? That I can just open a door -- open a door and everything that I love and value and know about myself will be there waiting. And when it doesn't happen, I get disappointed, and -- and angry and scared. What if it doesn't come back? What if it doesn't come back? What if I don't remember anything ever?
Mary: Would that be so bad?
Nikolas: Right now it seems like the worst thing that could happen, Mary. Not just because I’d lose a lifetime of memories, but because the questions -- they just -- they would never end. I want to stop -- I want to stop living in suspense, and I want to just live.
Mary: Then do it. Give up trying to remember and just live right here and right now. Neither of us can -- neither of us can bring back the past. Maybe we should just stop trying.
Nikolas: Maybe. I -- I need to go for a walk. Would it be ok with you if I just went for a walk?
Mary: Of course. Just -- be careful. You mean so much to me, and I would hate for anything to happen to you.
Nikolas: Ok.
Courtney: I don't need it.
Jason: Well, what if, you know, that woman takes everything back? What if something happens?
Courtney: I mean, all she'd have to do is ask. I love what I'm doing now, but I could easily go back to supporting myself.
Jason: You shouldn't have to. I've got the money. I -- I want you to take alimony so I know that you're going to be ok.
Courtney: Money doesn't fix anything. I mean, yeah, it's great to feel secure and provided for, but it doesn't make the loss any smaller. I just -- I can't believe that our marriage has boiled down to a few pieces of paper that read like a business contract. You know what's missing is us, Jason. You know, what we had, the feelings we shared. I mean, there's no trace of how much we loved each other and always --
Jason: Always will.
Courtney: I've known these papers were coming. I -- it just somehow still came as a surprise.
Jason: Why?
Courtney: I just -- I'm -- I suppose I'm not ready yet. Even though it seems like the only way. Unless it's not.
Jason: Isn't what? You don't want to get divorced?
[Phone rings]
Jason: Yeah? Ok, ok, ok, I'll be right there.
Sam: Excuse me? You better watch it --
Ric: Or what? What? What are you going to do? You going to charge him a fee for all the aggravation, sweetheart?
Sam: How dare you --
Sonny: Sam, Sam, don't let him bait you. He wants to get me so mad that I go for his throat. That way, he can actually charge me for a crime for once; so he can lock me up for the night.
Ric: A few honest comments and you just want to assault me.
Sonny: Well, you know what I do? You know what I do? Sometimes I let him just talk, right. Make a fool of himself. That way, he'll just go away.
Ric: See, I’m not going away unless you're coming with me.
Sonny: Where's the search warrant?
Ric: You mean this?
Sonny: Yeah, let me see it. Let me see it.
Ross: On the D.A.'s instructions, this officer and I are going to search every inch of this place -- every closet, every drawer, every cushion on the sofa, every jacket pocket and pair of pants, including those of your companion.
Sonny: What the hell do you want, Ric?
Ric: See, now, I'm glad you asked that. See, I would like for you to come with me down to the station so I can question you about the murder at Carly’s house.
Carly: I am not remotely compassionate enough to go to bed with you just to make you feel better.
Lorenzo: You're not?
Carly: Hmm-hmm-hmm. Uh-uh. Going to bed with you is going to make me feel better. Watch yourself. Come here.
Lorenzo: No, don't turn it off.
Carly: How did you know I was going to turn the light off?
Lorenzo: I can see it. I can see you.
Sonny: I don't think we'll need it. Ric's going to come up with every insult he can, hoping that I'll lose it so that he can charge me with assault. He knows he's got no case against me. All the evidence they collected at Carly’s house will prove what I told them. And I've got Carly and Alcazar to back it up.
Jason: Ok, why give Ric extra time to get in your face? I'll just page Justus. He'll come right down --
Sonny: I don't care what Ric’s agenda is. He's an annoyance to me at this point. I need you to go back to the penthouse and give Sam a message.
Jason: Call her.
Sonny: No, no, I -- this can't be handled -- I need you to tell her to wait.
Jason: What -- what, until you get back?
Sonny: Yeah, till I get back. Well, I need her to stay there so we can finish the discussion, because she'll know -- Sam will know what I'm talking about.
Jason: Ok.
Ric: Jason. Did I miss something here, or did you get a law degree all of a sudden?
Jason: Does he need a lawyer?
Ric: No, not at all. This is an informal meeting. No lawyers are necessary -- or mob enforcers, for that matter -- so I’m afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave.
Jason: Ok. I'll take care of it.
Ric: What's he going to take care of, Sonny, your laundry? Or ordering someone's execution?
Sonny: What do you want, Ric?
Ric: I would think that was fairly obvious to you by now. I want to put you in prison.
Lorenzo: Just your shape, silhouetted against the light. It's blurry, but when you moved, I could -- ah, there, there -- you moved again.
Carly: Lorenzo --
Lorenzo: The rest of the room is in total darkness, but the light is clear. It's almost painful. Look, you raised your right hand.
Carly: Oh, my God, Lorenzo. Lorenzo.
Lorenzo: Hey.
Carly: I was so afraid that it was --
Lorenzo: So was I.
Jason: Sonny wants you to stay.
Sam: Sonny wants me to stay as in "move-in stay," or Sonny wants me to stay as in "wait for him here stay"?
Jason: I have no idea. I'm only here to deliver the message. He wants you to stay so you guys can finish your conversation or discussion you were having.
Sam: Ok. How long is Ric going to keep him down at the station?
Jason: No more than a couple hours. He's got no grounds for an arrest.
Sam: Ok, fine. This is me waiting. Yep, I need to speak to Sonny about this in person, then, I guess.
Jason: Great. That's great. You do that.
Sam: Your enthusiasm is overwhelming me, Jason. Have you shared your excitement with Sonny yet?
Jason: He didn't ask for my input.
Sam: Well, I'm asking for it now. Look, I have made a lot of bad decisions in my life, and this time I’m going to let you place my bet. Ok? My future's in your hands, Jason. Stay or go -- it's your call.
Jason: I don't want to bet on your future.
Sam: Well, neither do I. And we can't always get what we want in life, and if we do, chances are you can't keep it, anyway.
Mike: Hey.
Elizabeth: Can I get two hot chocolates, please?
Mike: You got them.
Elizabeth: Thank you.
Courtney: Well, I hope those hot chocolates are for you. I mean, Ric doesn't seem to have the time, and he never will. He's too busy pursuing his lifelong obsession of blaming Sonny for everything that has gone wrong in his sorry life.
Elizabeth: Ok.
Courtney: You know, Ric is questioning Sonny as we speak, Elizabeth. I think the charge is stopping someone from breaking into Carly’s home. Does that sound fair to you? I mean, does that sound like an impartial D.A. fulfilling his duty, or does it just sound like the same old Ric, except now he's using his job as an excuse to harass Sonny?
Elizabeth: You know, not everyone stays frozen in the past, Courtney. If they did, you'd still be a stripper, wouldn't you?
Mike: Careful, they're hot.
Elizabeth: Thank you, Mike.
Mike: Two hot chocolates.
Elizabeth: I need to go.
Mike: Sure. Well. What was that all about?
Courtney: I told her the truth when I probably didn't have to.
Sonny: Didn't we go over this already?
Ric: I know, Sonny, but the pieces just don't fit, so I want to go through it again.
Sonny: Yeah, well, now what's happening is you're wasting my time.
Ric: Here's a question that I have for you -- when you walked into this darkened house --
Sonny: Yes.
Ric: Did you even think for a second that maybe you might possibly hit your wife, or was once not enough? Huh? Were you so jealous and so angry that you thought maybe you'd just finish the job?
Sonny: Do you ever get tired of doing this or --
Ric: I just want to know the reasoning here, Sonny. See, was it another accident? Hmm?
Sonny: Do you think maybe that it's time to stop whining about the past and grow up, and maybe -- I don't know -- take responsibility for your own messes?
Ric: You know what I think? I think maybe it was a little too dark for you to aim properly, so you tried to take out your wife's lover once before. Maybe you were trying to shoot Alcazar and you missed.
Lorenzo: Walk across the room with some idea where I’m going? Absolutely. Do me a favor -- walk somewhere. Don't talk.
[Carly giggles]
Lorenzo: I don't want to cheat and follow your voice.
Carly: Ok. That is very impressive.
Lorenzo: Not bad for your average toddler.
Carly: Ah, no -- not bad for a man who had no sight just a couple of hours ago. Should we call your doctor?
Lorenzo: No.
Carly: No?
Lorenzo: They told me this is how it would happen -- if it happened. My corneas are healing. I can't really distinguish color yet. You're not blond again, are you?
Carly: No.
Lorenzo: I can't see that well. It's like being in a very shadowy room. I can see shapes. I can kind of see where I’m going. In a month or so, my eyesight could be completely restored. But even if it's not, even if it's just as it is right now, that is enough. I can take care of myself.
Carly: And that's what frightens you the most, isn't it? The thought that you might have to be dependent?
Lorenzo: Hmm. I don't want anyone looking after me, telling me about my business affairs, telling me what's right in front of my eyes. But the worst part was knowing that I’d have to give you up.
Carly: You were going to leave me?
Lorenzo: I gave myself till June. And they told me if my eyesight hadn't returned by then, it never would.
Carly: Why didn't you tell me?
Lorenzo: Hmm. Because I knew you'd stay with me. Because you're incredibly loyal to a fault, and despite your claims to the contrary, you are profoundly compassionate. But it's not compassion that I want from you, Carly.
Carly: Lorenzo, I thought that you were just -- you were just lonely --
Lorenzo: Hmm.
Carly: And you missed Sophie, and by some fluke, somehow I reminded you of her.
Lorenzo: Why can't you believe that I love you for who you are?
Carly: You see, that's just it -- I do. I finally do. I realize that you love me, and I trust that.
Lorenzo: Hmm.
Carly: Do you want me to leave the light on?
Lorenzo: Hmm. I'd like that.
[Knock]
Mary: Yes?
Emily: I need your help.
Lucky: Who's there?
Mike: Well, actually, it sounded like she gave as good as she got.
Courtney: Yeah, she really knows how to push my buttons.
Mike: Anything in particular?
Courtney: Oh, it's just the way she refuses to see the truth about Ric. And she acts like they're this picture-perfect family -- daddy and mommy and baby makes three.
Mike: Maybe it feels a little unfair that Elizabeth gets to be a mother.
Courtney: Ok, you know, it's hard sometimes when I see a baby in a stroller or a mom glowing with happiness. But it's better now. I guess I just can't help from time to time imagining a baby with -- with Jason’s eyes.
Sam: Look, Jason, I know I'm not exactly your favorite person. And as weird as it sounds, I really value your opinion. Maybe it's the block-of-cement stare you always give me, but I get the feeling you're the only halfway objective person in Sonny's life.
Jason: Yeah, but my opinion does not matter. You got to do what you want to do.
Sam: Oh, come on, Jason. Carly and Courtney wish I were to drop off the face of this earth like yesterday. His brother treats me like something stuck on the bottom of his shoe. Pretty much everyone in Sonny's life thinks I'm the worst thing that ever happened to him.
Jason: What do you think?
Sam: I don't want to ruin Sonny's life. I'm glad that he loves his kids and he wants to spend time with them, and to tell you the truth, if he wanted to go back to Carly, I wouldn't fight it. I mean, it would hurt like hell, but I care about Sonny, and I want -- I want what is best for him. Oh. This is it. This is your chance to do something positive. Am I good for Sonny in any way at all, or should I -- should I pack up and disappear?
Ric: Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Firstborn son.
Sonny: That's right.
Ric: Yeah, she'd be proud today, though, wouldn't she, hmm? You get your way by hurting people and causing all kind of devastation. You never have to give a damn.
Sonny: What are you talking -- you chained Carly to a wall.
Ric: You want to go there?
Sonny: Yeah, I'm going!
Ric: Huh? You want to go there?
Sonny: Let's go there!
Ric: You want to start calling me names? You want to start calling me names and throwing my past to my face, Sonny?
Sonny: Ah --
Ric: What about yours? You want money, right? You want power? You killed at every opportunity in order to get that. You crush every person who ever got in your way, and all for what? For the sake of business? Why -- that sort of excuses all of the devastation that you caused? It's ok, right, because you're just greedy? Because you're a self-centered bastard who destroys the lives of every single person who ever gets close to you. All that matters to you, Sonny, is what you want at any given moment. And that's why you left your wife and your child for some whore like Sam.
Sonny: You don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Ric: Oh, don't I? Really?
Sonny: No!
Ric: Well, you want to look at it this way? Huh? Your father left our mother, right, just like you left Carly.
Sonny: Right.
Ric: See, he ran out, you ran out.
Sonny: Right.
Ric: You want to tell me, Sonny, where's the pride in that, hmm? You're the worst of both of your fathers. You're violent like Deke Woods, and you're selfish like Mike. You talk about me, huh? I'm better than my father, or at least I'm trying to be, because I'm with Elizabeth, and she's carrying a baby that's not even mine! So that every day I look at you, and every day for the rest of your life and every day for the rest of my life, I'm going to know that I am a better man than you are!
Elizabeth: Is that why you're with me?
Carly: Hmm?
Lorenzo: What are you doing?
Mary: I know what it's like to be worried about the man you love.
Sam: I should probably just leave.
Jason: You want to know what I think?
Carly: Do you need these papers?
Elizabeth: Is that why you're with me -- to spite Sonny?
