Elizabeth: Excuse me, I have an appointment with Dr. Meadows. I'm Elizabeth Lansing.

Mailman: Excuse me. Let me get this out of your way.

Elizabeth: That's ok. Oh -- do you want me to help you with that?

Mailman: I got it, thanks.

Dr. Meadows: All ready for the ultrasound?

Elizabeth: Yes, except my husband's running a little late.

Dr. Meadows: I'm afraid we'll have to start without him. I'm booked solid.

Jax: You know, running Pride-Phillips is a big leap from Kelly’s, even with $10 million backing you.

Courtney: So you're saying that I’m not ready?

Jax: What makes you think that you are?

Alexis: You know that I don't like her. It's just that I understand what she's going through. I mean, if Sonny tried to take Kristina away from me, I’d --

Nikolas: Sonny -- why would he do that?

Justus: Could you be more specific?

Sonny: You don't need to know the details. All you need to know is he's trashing me. So you need to make Carly look worse.

Jason: That's blackmail.

Carly: Sonny shouldn't have cut me off from the kids.

Jason: Don't try to blame this on him.

Carly: I'm going to do whatever I have to to get my boys, even if it means exposing Sonny and telling the truth about him.

Jason: You can't do that, Carly.

Carly: Ok. Well, then, you tell the court that Michael and Morgan belong with me.

Sam: Yeah, sure.

Emily: Chocolate heals all wounds.

Sam: You know, you're good in a crisis.

Emily: Years of experience.

Sam: I was happy for you when I found out Nikolas was ok, that he survived.

Emily: Thanks for reminding me.

Sam: What do you mean by that?

Emily: Well, I just -- yeah, I need to focus on the positive. For almost 24 hours, I thought Nikolas was -- was dead. Nothing's worse than that, not even a murder charge.

Sam: Well, there's still a chance he's going to get acquitted, right?

Emily: Yeah, he has to be. Nikolas is innocent.

Sam: I hope you can prove it.

Emily: You know, I -- I never thanked you for the night of the fire. I was so afraid for Nikolas, and you and Sonny tried to help.

Sam: Thank you. I didn't do anything, but -- I don't even know if there should be a me and Sonny. He misses his wife. It's obvious. She's fighting him for the custody of the kids. He'd be better off if I just disappeared.

Emily: Well, no offense, but Sonny brought that trouble on himself.

Nikolas: And you're the only one who can help?

Alexis: I owe her. She saved my life in the fire.

Nikolas: Alexis, under any other circumstances, I’d admire your principles, but I’m more concerned right now with getting myself acquitted for murder. You're the best lawyer I know. If you can't defend me, who will?

Courtney: Are you threatening me?

Jax: You're smart, but a company like this needs --

Courtney: What, a man like you? So how long were you an executive assistant, Jax? Can you type? Can you make a decent pot of coffee?

Jax: I worked with my father. He taught me everything.

Courtney: Oh. And what was his background? Camping? Prospecting for oil? What was -- the business school you went to, what was that?

Jax: I didn't go to business school. I learned by doing.

Courtney: Hmm. Well, so will I. You know, Jax, I grew up around gamblers, and I know a good hand when I see one. And I'm not afraid of the game.

Jax: I have no doubt.

Courtney: And I want to make some real changes with this company, to build something.

Jax: Well, may I congratulate you. I'm sure Sonny and Jason haven't bothered.

Courtney: Yeah, well, because they are underestimating me. But so are you, Jax, and I think I'm going to surprise you all.

Carly: Look, I don't want to expose Sonny's breakdowns, but he has backed me into a corner.

Jason: Sonny is ashamed of those breakdowns. He thinks that they're his fault, that they're some kind of punishment, Carly.

Carly: Ok, so you tell me, why should my children have to deal with his demons? If I was there, I could protect them.

Jason: Well, you know what? I could protect them.

Carly: You are not their mother!

Jason: Do you want Sonny humiliated in front of Alcazar and everybody else?

Carly: No!

Jason: Do you want him to die? Because if the people we do business with -- if they ever found that out -- that if you push Sonny hard enough, he will literally break -- they will take him out, Carly. You tell that secret, you might as well kill Sonny yourself.

Carly: It's a sickness, Jason, and he probably should see a doctor.

Jason: So you're going to do him a favor by telling everyone?

Carly: I don't want to --

Jason: Don't try to justify this!

Carly: I don't want to hurt him!

Jason: Then don't!

Carly: He hasn't left me a choice.

Jason: There's always -- there's always a choice. Instead of giving me an ultimatum, why don't you just go to Sonny and tell him that you're sorry for what you did and that you still love him?

Justus: Oh, come on, that was a long time ago.

Sonny: She shot Tony Jones in open court. She spent some time in Ferncliff, Shadybrook, right?

Justus: Sonny, you knew all of this before you married Carly. It's doubtful any of this will help you in court.

Sonny: Carly left Michael with Jason the first month of his life. Since the coma, she hasn't been around her kids much.

Justus: And --

Sonny: You know what I mean? She's been doing other things.

Justus: How did she get in that coma, Sonny? Refresh my memory. Didn't someone shoot her in the head?

Sonny: Whose side are you on, Justus?

Justus: You think Alexis Davis won't use any of this against you in court?

Sonny: Then shut her down! That's what I'm paying you for!

Justus: Fine! How far are we going here? You want me to make Carly look like the raving lunatic who sleeps around and doesn't deserve to be with her children. She's the mother of your boys. Do you really want me to destroy her completely?

Jason: Not until he saw you kissing Alcazar.

Carly: Ok, you know what? Never mind the fact that I had a brain injury. I'm a tramp. Is that what you want to hear?

Jason: Carly, that's an excuse. Who cares? I'm just saying he was provoked, all right? He's got a right to be mad. Now you're mad. You know what? I don't care! Both of you need to take responsibility. Both of you need to fix it for Michael and Morgan. That's it!

Carly: I am doing this for Michael and Morgan! I can't afford to love Sonny anymore! I wish that I could. I know what telling his secret will do to him, but this is a consequence of what he has done and how vindictive he is being. Jason, please, you have never, ever let me down. Please don't start now. You don't have to volunteer, ok? Just wait for the subpoena and please stand up for Michael and Morgan and for me.

Sam: Are you friends with Carly?

Emily: You know, we tolerate each other because we have people that we love in common.

Sam: So you have nothing invested in seeing the two of them get back together?

Emily: I think it would make Jason’s life easier, but other than that, no.

Sam: I believe you and what you say about Sonny because that's the way he is with me. I mean, sometimes he's really quiet, and I can tell that he's sad. But he always goes out of his way not to hurt me. I never feel like he's judging me or pressing me for things that I can't give him. Sonny just likes me the way that I am. You know?

Emily: Are you falling in love with Sonny?

[Elevator doors open]

[Emily and Sam laugh]

Sam: Saved by the bell.

[Bell rings]

Emily: Look, I'm sorry. It was none of my business.

Sam: No. Really, I -- I appreciate it. You are a really great listener. Thank you.

Emily: Thank you. Well, I hope things work out with you and Sonny.

Sam: Well, I hope Nikolas gets acquitted. Better yet, I hope they drop the charges.

Emily: I'm sure they will be.

Sam: Ok.

Elizabeth: Hey.

Ric: Sorry I'm late. I -- what did I miss, huh?

Elizabeth: Look, look, look, it's our baby.

Ric: Wow. Oh, that's amazing. Well, what is it? Is it a boy or a girl?

Elizabeth: I told her I didn't want to know.

Ric: Oh, ok. Well, then, I don't need to know, either.

Dr. Meadows: I'm going to go check on the blood work. I'll be back in a minute.

Elizabeth: Thank you.

Ric: Thank you, doctor.

Elizabeth: Are you ready for this? In a few months, you're going to have a new little person depending on you.

Ric: You're the woman that I love. We're going to raise this child together.

Elizabeth: It's really hard for me not to think about Zander and in the end how -- how wrong everything went for him.

Ric: I think that's why Zander gave us this life.

Elizabeth: Will you promise me something?

Ric: Yeah. You name it.

Elizabeth: Promise me that you'll do whatever you can to prove that Nikolas did not kill Zander.

Alexis: You had no way of knowing that the building would burn down.

Nikolas: I need a good lawyer.

Alexis: And I have a very good one lined up for you. And I promise if the trial looks like it's going against you, I will stop consulting and I will step up to first counsel.

Nikolas: Good to know.

Alexis: The truth is, is I shouldn't be your first choice for a lawyer anyway because there's a conflict of interest because of my relationship with Zander.

Nikolas: Uh -- all right. All right, I guess I’ll just have to take your word for it, then.

Alexis: We will get you out of this, I promise.

Justus: Then agree to mediation. Work out joint custody.

Sonny: As long as she's with Alcazar, that is not an option.

Justus: Ok. Pretend I'm the judge.

Sonny: Right.

Justus: Ok? I got a father, a known mob figure, as they say. He won't discuss options and he's attempted to kidnap his children.

Sonny: Come on, Justus. I -- I did that to upset Carly.

Justus: That's just what I’m looking for as a judge -- maturity, selflessness, a safe and stable home environment. What's my other option? Carly, the raving lunatic slut. What if the judge decides you're both unfit?

Sonny: Well, I'm paying you to make sure that doesn't happen.

Justus: You and Carly are evenly matched. You've both made your share of mistakes. There's enough evidence available to make you both look like bad parents. Who wins if the boys are taken away and placed in foster care?

Sonny: I'll send my children out of the country if that happens.

Justus: I'll pretend I didn't hear that.

Sonny: Look, I'm going to be perfect at the hearing. I'm going to be calm, polite, and I'm going to make sure all those stories about me are just that -- stories. But I will tell you this -- Carly is going to lose it, and you're going to make sure she does. She's going to be defensive, she's going to get upset, and she's going to prove to the judge all by herself that she's an unfit mother. All you have to do is provoke her. Find a way.

Jason: Justus, I need to speak to Sonny alone.

Justus: Good luck. Oh, and when you get a moment, I need to discuss your testimony.

Sonny: Don't worry about Jason. Worry about Carly.

[Door closes]

Jason: What are you doing?

[Violin]

Jason: You can't order Justus to destroy Carly.

Sonny: What do you mean, I can't? Who's in charge here?

Jason: You are, but you know what? You got to start thinking about the people who are depending on you, Sonny. Michael and Morgan need you to be fair. If you trash their mother, you're trashing them. Those boys need joint custody.

Sonny: You going to tell me what my children need now?

Jason: No, I'm just telling you that Michael’s already acting out. He's taking off without telling anybody, and Morgan -- he's just a baby. Babies need their mom.

Sonny: I -- I always said that my children were going to grow up in a safe place. They were going to have a real home. That's what I'm trying to do -- give them everything that I didn't have.

Jason: Yeah, well, no one kept you away from your mom.

Sonny: Well, Carly made that choice, Jason! Now she's with him, happily ever after!

Jason: Carly was wrong. You get to be angry; I'm angry. But you got to start thinking about what's right for your kids at some point! Because you know the harder you push Carly, the more desperate she's going to get. Somebody's got to take a step back.

Sonny: Not if she's with Alcazar, I'm not taking any step back! I watched my stepfather destroy my mother. He made her so confused, she couldn't protect herself or me. What if Alcazar does that to Carly?

Jason: I'd kill him first.

Sonny: Even if she begged you? If she said how much she loved him? It's sick, it's wrong, and no child should have to watch that. I lived it! My sons won't!

Jason: So what about Carly?

Sonny: She made her choice!

Jason: Does that mean you don't love her anymore?

Carly: Courtney, oh my goodness. Look at this, the executive suite.

Courtney: Yeah.

Carly: Gosh.

Courtney: I know. It's pretty amazing, isn't it?

Carly: You are going to be great at this.

Courtney: Oh, well, besides my fairy Godmother, Louise, you're the only one who thinks so.

Carly: Ok, well, I'm going to tell you what -- if I ever see a dog running loose in a burning building, I’m going to chase it down and save its life whether he wants me to or not.

Courtney: You want to hear my nightmare?

Carly: Hmm?

Courtney: Some corporate type walks in here and I ask him if he wants the lunch special.

[Carly laughs]

Carly: Ok. You're going to be great at this. You are. Just trust your instincts. They're good.

Courtney: My instincts told me that I could be with Jason.

Carly: That was your heart. Ignore your heart.

Courtney: Come on, Carly. You don't mean that.

Carly: Yeah, I do. You walked away, and I will always respect you for that. There were so many times that I tried to walk away from Sonny, and I never once stuck with it.

Courtney: Now you can.

Carly: Not until this custody battle is over. You're going to support me, right? You're going to tell the judge that the kids belong with me?

Courtney: Look, I'm sorry, Carly, but I can't.

Nikolas: Yes. Nikolas.

Jen: Jen McNeill. Alexis Davis turned your case over to me.

Nikolas: Yeah, well, then you must be excellent.

Jen: Well, we have our work cut out.

Nikolas: What's the status on my bail?

Jen: I'm working on it. You've already been here way too long.

Nikolas: Yeah, especially since I'm innocent. Someone else killed Zander Smith.

Jen: Well, do you have any idea who?

Elizabeth: But you're still looking at Scott Baldwin, right?

Ric: Yes, absolutely. But all of the evidence that we have available still points to Nikolas.

Elizabeth: He didn't do it, Ric.

Ric: Look, sweetheart, I know that Nikolas is very special to you.

Elizabeth: Yes, and he's helped me through some very rough times.

Ric: I can do that now if you'll let me.

Elizabeth: Of course.

Ric: Will you just try to stop worrying about this, please?

Dr. Meadows: That's very good advice.

Ric: Why? What's wrong? Is it --?

Dr. Meadows: Your blood pressure's too high. Now, everything else looks fine, but you just really need to take it easy. Relax and enjoy life.

Ric: Thanks, doctor. I'll make sure of it.

Elizabeth: Thanks.

Ric: Mm-hmm.

Elizabeth: Oh, please, God, don't let anything be wrong with this baby, please.

Ric: Hey, do me a favor. Why don't you close your eyes, ok? Please, just close your eyes --

Elizabeth: Oh.

Ric: Ok? Take a deep breath. Now, I want you to imagine yourself rocking our baby to sleep. We're a family. We're safe. We're home.

Elizabeth: That helps.

Ric: Sweetheart, this baby is our dream. Nobody's going to take it away from us, all right? Not now, not ever.

Courtney: I'm not. Carly, you and Sonny need to share custody, and that's what I’m going to tell the judge.

Carly: Sonny won't consider it.

Courtney: Well, maybe he will change his mind closer to the hearing.

Carly: No, he won't, and what Sonny and I have is gone because I have done the unforgivable.

Jason: Sonny, what if Carly walked away from Alcazar and came back to you right now?

Sonny: That's not going to happen.

Jason: Do you want her to?

Carly: Oh, please, like that's going to happen.

Courtney: Well, what if?

Carly: Look, I have forgiven Sonny so much, but not this. He wouldn't even let me explain. After everything I went through, he went straight to Sam and he slept with her, and now he's being cruel and vindictive. He's trying to keep me away from my kids?

Courtney: Yeah, because he is hurting, Carly. I mean, he wouldn't be acting this way if he didn't still care. He still loves you.

Carly: So what? That is beside the point.

Courtney: So you wouldn't come back?

Carly: So he can slam doors in my face again? No. No, thanks. I used to think that I wrecked everything that I loved. I did not wreck this marriage, and I cannot put it back together.

Jason: She wants payback. Now that Sam’s in the picture, she's going to keep sleeping with Alcazar. Sonny, it's dumb, but it's how she thinks. She gets so hurt and so mad that she can't even think straight.

Sonny: Things were going on between Carly and Alcazar long before I got together with Sam. You know what? I don't even want to talk about this. Alcazar's figured out a way to make me look bad to the judge. You're not going to believe this. He went to Faith Rosco. He sold out to her, and I believe she's going to try to start a war right before the custody trial.

Courtney: How can you trust him?

Carly: Look, you have every reason to dislike Lorenzo, but he has been very good to me.

Courtney: Carly, he tore your life apart.

Carly: Yeah, well, now he's done everything in his power to help put it back together. He helped me when I was at my most desperate, and he didn't take advantage of me when it would've been really easy to do. Lorenzo's a complicated man. He's not perfect, but he is not this crazy stalker that Sonny wants to make him out to be. Sonny is just using Lorenzo to justify his taking our kids, and it is wrong.

Sonny: Well, you make sure that doesn't happen. You were with Michael his first year. You know Carly better than anybody else. Tell the judge that the boys don't belong with her. Say they belong with me.

Carly: Maybe, maybe not.

Jason: I wouldn't be surprised.

Sonny: Knowing my sister, she probably turned against me. But you won’t. I know that. I trust you more than anybody. You're going to tell the judge that the kids belong with me, right? Right.

Courtney: Look, Carly, I just want what's best for the boys.

Carly: Good, then we are on the same page. How are they doing? Have you seen them today?

Courtney: I was planning to stop by later.

Carly: Will you give them a hug for me and just tell them that I love them?

Courtney: Yes, I will.

Carly: I need you, Courtney. So do the boys. Just -- just please do what's right. I got to go. I'm sorry.

Courtney: Bye.

Sam: What's this?

Sonny: You know, I forgot to ask you how you feel about surprises.

Sam: It all depends on what kind.

Sonny: I want to thank you for your discretion at the hospital.

Sam: I told you it's not a problem.

Sonny: Well, yeah, but it is if you think I’m ashamed of you.

Sam: Aren't you? Come on, Sonny, just a little, right? Sam, treasure-hunting con artist you picked up on a pier.

Sonny: Have a seat here. You see, my sons -- my sons are hurting. They miss their mother and seeing me with another woman who actually makes me smile will only make it worse. So I’ve asked you to keep your distance. This isn't about you. It's about Michael and Morgan. And I didn't just pick you up --

[Sam chuckles]

Sonny: On the pier, I needed someone. You needed someone. And I'd like to think -- or even hope -- that we connected.

Sam: We did. I just -- ahem -- I don't want -- I don't want you to think that I’m expecting -- I've said that --

Sonny: Yeah.

Sam: A lot.

Sonny: Right.

Sam: I don't know what I'm trying to say. I don't care what anyone else thinks about you. You're good to me.

Sonny: Well, I'd like to be. I --

[Sonny laughs]

Sonny: I brought you a present. It's a little one because I don't want you to get upset and throw it at my head.

Sam: Oh, yeah.

Sonny: So that way I just -- I won't get hurt as much.

Sam: Ahem. I -- I suppose one little gift -- wow. I love it.

Sonny: That's great. Just remember, you're free to go whenever you want, but I'd like you to stay.

Carly: Do we have to use Lily?

Alexis: It's going to go a long way in showing that children are not safe around Sonny. We are also going to have to deal with the fact that Sonny is emotionally unstable --

Carly: You're not bringing up the breakdowns.

Alexis: Excuse me?

Carly: You're not going to have to.

Alexis: You and I have a deal, and the deal is, is if I don't win this case, you're going to tell Sonny that he's Kristina’s father. Justus Ward happens to be an excellent trial attorney, and I can't beat him if I have to keep tripping over you.

Carly: Well, Jason and Courtney are going to support me. They're going to say that I deserve sole custody, and that should be enough, right?

Alexis: Are you sure that Jason’s going to testify for you? I understand that he has inexplicable fondness for you, but I also happen to know that he is completely loyal to Sonny.

Carly: Yeah, well, Jason understands what's at stake, and he is going to say that the kids belong with me.

Jason: How you doing?

Courtney: I -- I just came by to see the boys.

Jason: They're upstairs.

Courtney: Don't you ever read the directions?

Jason: No. It's for Morgan. I think he's going to love the way this swing moves.

Courtney: Hmm. So, how's he doing?

Jason: He'd be better if his mother was around.

Courtney: Here.

Jason: Thanks.

Courtney: So -- have you thought about your testimony?

Jason: Yeah.

Courtney: What are you going to say?

Jason: Carly's pushing me to say that she should have the kids, and -- and Sonny assumes I'll be loyal to him.

Courtney: Will you?

Nikolas: Ok. All right, Alexis found a new attorney.

Emily: Mm-hmm?

Nikolas: Her name is Jen McNeill. I don't know. She seems competent. She's trying to arrange a bail hearing right now, so --

Emily: Ok.

Nikolas: Maybe we can go home together.

Emily: Yeah. All right.

Nikolas: Ok. Come here.

Ric: None that I know of.

Lucky: Have you even looked?

Ric: You know, it's an ongoing investigation, Lucky. The minute I find out any information that leads me to believe that Scott Baldwin killed Zander Smith, you'll be the first to know.

Lucky: Oh. So in the meantime, you're just going to try and convict my brother for murder?

Ric: Here we go again. You see, the operative word being your brother. All right, you're too close to this.

Lucky: Oh, and you're not? You hated Zander. He got Elizabeth pregnant. He was trying to use his paternal rights to blackmail you. You know, where were you the night that Zander died?

Ric: You're grasping at straws, Lucky, which leads me to believe that you think Nikolas is guilty.

Emily: Hi.

Nikolas: My fiancée, Emily Quartermaine.

Emily: Nice to meet you.

Jen: Nice to meet you.

Emily: Did you get bail?

Nikolas: Yeah?

Emily: Can Nikolas go home?

Jen: Well, the hearing's tomorrow morning. That's the best I could do. I'm sorry.

Nikolas: Ok, I understand.

[Door opens]

Jen: The D.A. Just seems to have a really strong case.

[Door closes]

Ric: That's right. But I'm willing to make a deal.

Carly: No, of course not, and he is never going to say anything bad about Sonny, so don't try and make him. What he will do is tell the court that the children belong with their mother.

Alexis: And you know this how?

Carly: Because I spoke with him. Listen, Jason pretended to be Michael’s father so A.J. couldn't take him. He will do anything that he can to protect the people he loves.

Alexis: Jason's testimony will be helpful, but we still need to prove that Sonny is unfit. We need a judge to see the truth that Sonny's life is too dangerous for any child. And the way that we're going to --

[Phone rings]

Alexis: Alexis Davis. Yes, Judge Marland, I understand. Yes, we'll cooperate fully.

Carly: What do you mean, "cooperate"?

Courtney: Why can't they just stop fighting?

Jason: It's a way for them to stay connected.

Courtney: Well, they're not being fair to anyone else, especially you. I mean, they're both your best friends. How could you possibly choose?

Jason: I don't know.

Michael: Aunt Courtney.

Courtney: Hey, sweetie.

Michael: Where have you been?

Courtney: Well, I have been working at my new job -- hey -- and visiting with your mommy. She told me to give you and Morgan a big hug.

Michael: Is she all right?

Courtney: Yeah, well, she misses you, but she's fine.

Michael: Oh -- Morgan won't go to sleep. Leticia needs help.

Jason: All right, I’ll take care of it.

Courtney: All right.

Michael: Do you know how to do that?

Courtney: Not a clue. What do you think this is?

Michael: I don't know.

Courtney: I don't know.

Michael: Jason never needed instructions.

Courtney: Yeah, well, Jason is really good at this kind of stuff.

Michael: Are you and Uncle Jason back together?

Courtney: No.

Michael: But you guys don't fight.

Courtney: Well, there really isn't any need for us to fight. We just realized that both of our lives are very different and they're just too different for us to stay together. But your Uncle Jason and I, we still care about each other.

Michael: If you and Jason can get along, why can't mommy and daddy?

Courtney: Well, when people get hurt, they -- they just react in different ways.

[Phone rings]

Courtney: Hi, sweetie. Hi.

[Ring]

Jason: Hello. No, Sonny's not here. Can I take a message? You're the custody judge? The boys are right here. Why?

Sam: That first night -- what if we hadn't run into each other? Would you -- would you be with your wife right now? Would you be home?

Sonny: Sam, you know what? I'm here now. Let's just -- let's just enjoy what we got here.

[Phone rings]

Sonny: Yeah.

Man: Mr. Corinthos.

Sonny: That's right.

Man: Judge Marland here. I've set up an interview with your son.

Sonny: Why do you need to speak with Michael?

Judge Marland: To find out which parent he wants to live with.

Emily: Nikolas is innocent.

Nikolas: Why should I plead guilty to that?

Ric: Because the case against you is open and shut.

Emily: Oh --

Nikolas: But --

Ric: Counselor, I think you might want to impress upon your client that the chances of acquittal are slim to none.

Jen: Right, then why are you offering a deal?

Ric: Because he's friends with my wife and Zander Smith is a known felon. I think it's reasonable to assume that you were provoked.

Nikolas: Don't do me any favors.

Ric: Deal won't be on the table forever.
