Alan: The Quartermaine estate -- it's on fire. Please hurry up.
A.J.: I'm fantastic. So is Kristina.
Edward: She certainly is.
Faith: Give me one more chance.
Scott: Well, well, well. What do we got here?
Sonny: You can't help me when I need you most. You're not Jason, you never will be. I need your help.
Courtney: What do you want me to do?
Sonny: Give up Jason.
Sonny: I know that you would never willingly jeopardize an innocent baby.
Courtney: Of course not.
Sonny: But don't you see that's what you're doing if you hold on to Jason? You're putting the baby Carly and I are expecting in serious danger.
Courtney: If by that you mean I’m the one keeping Jason from working for you, Sonny, I'm not.
Sonny: But if -- but if Jason works for me, that puts you in danger unless you let me send you away.
Courtney: No.
Sonny: Carly lost our last baby by falling down the stairs. What if I have to push her out of the way of a bullet? You've seen a newborn, right? You've seen how fragile they are? This baby is 20 times more fragile than that right now. Anything could happen to Carly. She could fall down, somebody can push her, and we'd lose our baby. Is that what -- I know you wouldn't want that, would you?
Courtney: Of course not, no.
Sonny: Okay, but see, my enemies think that I'm vulnerable without Jason. So that's when they're going to strike, where I’m most vulnerable -- my family. You understand what I'm saying? My children. Even my little sister, unless you leave.
Courtney: Sonny, I can't.
Sonny: Okay, you know what? I know you're a caring person --
[Door opens]
Sonny: And I know you would never want any --
Jason: What are you doing? Why are you here?
Ric: Have a seat, okay? Just -- just for a minute. You could tell Sonny about our night together -- that's fine. I can't do anything about that. But why -- why risk your marriage by planting a seed of doubt about the child's paternity?
Carly: There is no doubt about my baby's paternity, and you are a fool to suggest otherwise, Ric.
Ric: No, I'm not suggesting that there is any doubt.
Carly: Oh, you're not suggesting that? What are you doing, jerking me around again? Are you having fun here?
Ric: The last thing I want to do is jerk you around. Listen -- okay, I got what I want -- a job with Sonny. Now, the last thing I want to do is jeopardize my new position or my life -- no, I'm not saying this the correct way. I'm asking you, Carly -- please, let me stay in Port Charles. Trust me; Sonny's not going to get a better lawyer than me.
Carly: I told you that I don't trust you, Ric, and I don’t. The minute -- the minute that I think that you have done anything to hurt Sonny, I will tell him everything. You give him bad advice, you mess up a contract, you borrow a pencil without permission, and he will know. I could wake up tomorrow and decide to tell him because I'm sick of looking at your smarmy face. So if you stay, you stay at your own risk. But I'm telling you, Ric, you mess up once and I promise you that your life is over.
Elizabeth: Hey, Alexis. Hi. It's nice to see you. Why don't you come sit at the counter?
Alexis: Thanks.
Elizabeth: I'll get you something to eat.
Alexis: Thank you, Elizabeth. I probably shouldn't go out --
TV announcer: E.L.Q. founder Edward Quartermaine --
Alexis: Can you turn that up? That's Ned’s gatehouse.
Lucky: Yes.
TV announcer: You can see the paramedic units are standing at the ready.
Alexis: Oh, my God.
TV announcer: That would suggest the fire department has reason to believe there may be victims still inside.
Alexis: My baby's there.
Elizabeth: I'm sure she's okay.
Alexis: No, she's in there.
Monica: What are you doing with Kristina?
Alan: Shh. Please, you're going to upset her.
Monica: Where's Ned?
Alan: I don't know. I mean, she was in the gatehouse by herself, alone.
Monica: What? Kristina was in the gatehouse when the fire started?
Alan: Yes.
Monica: Where was the nanny?
Alan: I have no idea. A.J. got there just in the nick of time.
[Siren]
Monica: Well -- well, she's got to be examined for smoke inhalation.
Alan: I examined her.
Monica: With what, a flashlight?
Alan: Yeah, well, what's your point? I examined her. She's fine. Paramedics examined her, too.
Monica: Why don't you want her to go to the hospital?
Alan: She doesn't need to go to the hospital.
Monica: And what part of this story are you leaving out?
Ned: Where's the baby?
Edward: Ned, Ned, no!
Fireman: There's a baby in there?
Edward: Wait Ned! The baby -- the baby's fine, Ned!
A.J.: Ned!
Edward: Ned!
Ned: Kristina! Kristina!
Edward: Get my grandson out of there!
A.J.: Ned, Kristina’s okay!
Fireman: Commander, we've got one male inside. He just --
Edward: Where are you going? If you could --
A.J.: Grandfather, just calm down, all right?
Edward: I'll calm down when I get my grandson!
Officer: He'll be fine.
Gia: No, Zander!
Edward: Zander, get in there!
Zander: All right, come on, buddy.
Alan: The gatehouse caught on fire. I called 911. A.J. went up there; nobody answered the door, so he kicked it in. Kristina was the only one that was in the gatehouse. There was no Ned, no nanny. He didn't know what to do, so he just picked up Kristina, risked his life, and got her out of there.
Monica: Is he all right?
Alan: Well, he inhaled some smoke, but they gave him oxygen.
Monica: And they have taken him to the hospital, right?
Alan: No. He actually went back up to the gatehouse to be with father and everybody else.
Monica: Wait, let me -- let me get this straight. A.J. inhaled a lot of smoke but was miraculously revived, so much so that he's now assisting the firemen?
Alan: No, he's not assisting. He's doing what everybody else is doing.
Reginald: Hey. They -- they think Ned’s been trapped in the fire.
Monica: Oh, my God. You stay here with Kristina.
[Zander coughs]
Edward: Ned, what are you trying to do? Did you want to kill yourself, what?
Paramedic: His B.P. is 156/98.
Edward: Who taught you to run into burning buildings? You certainly didn't learn it from me. Ned --
Zander: How is Ned? How's Ned?
Gia: Keep -- keep the mask on, Zander.
Zander: Ah!
Paramedic: Keep the mask on, please. Do what she says.
[Zander coughs]
Alexis: Where's Kristina?
A.J.: You know, it's okay. I ran in --
Alexis: Where is she?
A.J.: She's safe.
Edward: She is safe, Alexis.
A.J.: She's safe.
Alexis: Did you take her to the hospital?
Edward: What she doesn't need right now is a mad woman's hysteria.
Alexis: I want to see my daughter.
Edward: No, don't --
Gia: Alexis, Alexis --
Edward: Calm down.
Alexis: I'm not leaving here until I see my daughter.
Edward: Wait --
Gia: Alexis, Kristina’s fine. I heard someone say that she was taken into the main house.
Alexis: Great.
Zander: No, don't! Alexis, no! Go after her.
Gia: She just wants to make sure Kristina’s okay.
Zander: No, no. The restraining order -- the Quartermaine will use it against her.
Gia: No, not tonight. They won't do that tonight. They know that Alexis needs to know that Kristina’s okay.
Zander: You don't know the Quartermaines.
Gia: Please, stop.
Paramedic: Stay down, stay down.
Reporter: Here's A.J. Quartermaine. A.J., we're on live. Can you tell us what happened?
A.J.: Well, I saw the flames from the house, from the main house. I ran over here, I kicked the door down, and I ran inside to make sure --
Edward: My grandson is far too modest. His infant cousin Kristina was trapped in the house, and he risked his life to -- to save her. Now, she's fine. The baby is fine and, as you can see, the house is just a total --
A.J.: It's a mess.
Edward: Total loss, I'm afraid. But you did fine, Son.
A.J.: Thank you.
[TV turns off]
Elizabeth: Thank God that baby's all right.
Lucky: Is there a reason no one's mentioning the nanny?
Ric: Yeah, that's what I'm wondering.
Elizabeth: Poor Alexis.
Ric: She's always struck me as a strong-willed person. When I heard about her breaking down in the courtroom, I couldn't imagine it happening. Now I can.
Lucky: I mean, anyone would freak watching a burning building, afraid someone she loves is inside.
Ric: Yeah, well, luckily, apparently, the baby's all right.
Lucky: You know what? I'm going to take off. Thank you for the sympathetic ear.
Elizabeth: Any time.
Ric: What's this about "watching a burning building"?
Elizabeth: Uh, it's old history.
Ric: Mm-hmm.
Elizabeth: Okay, the short version -- Lucky and I, we were pretty serious back in high school, and there was this -- this fire and we tried to get back to where we were and we couldn't and we tried and tried, but then we just -- we broke up.
Ric: Who was trapped in the building?
Elizabeth: I thought Lucky was. It's complicated.
Ric: Oh. So seeing all that stuff on TV probably brings up bad memories, huh?
Elizabeth: Yeah. It's a time I don't really like to talk about.
Ric: Okay.
Elizabeth: So what's going on with Carly? Why -- why were you so anxious to see her?
Ric: Oh, yeah, it's just some misunderstanding about the club.
Elizabeth: Hmm -- didn't I tell you she was a nightmare?
Ric: Yeah, look, I don't want to go there. I'd rather just bask in the glory of being named Sonny's personal attorney.
Elizabeth: Not to be a voice of doom, but Alexis was the most professional, successful lawyer I’ve ever seen, until she got in too deep with Sonny and her life fell apart.
Ric: Yeah, well, trust me -- I'm a lot tougher than Alexis Davis.
Sonny: I came here to ask Courtney to give you up. I explained to her that if she stays with you, then everybody I care about, everybody you care about, is at risk.
Jason: You know I’ll come back to work with you, but not without Courtney.
Sonny: So because of Courtney, you broke your word, you know, turned your back on your commitments?
Courtney: That is completely unfair.
Sonny: Because of -- because of Courtney, you've trashed your honor? You're throwing your life away? She's a little girl with a crush, and she's ruining everything I’ve built. She doesn't know what's coming. You do, Jason. When that bomb hits, when the -- when the shooting starts, she's going to say, "I’m sorry. I didn't mean it."
Jason: There's nothing --
Sonny: But you know it's going to be too late.
Jason: There's nothing that I wouldn't do for you, and you know that.
Sonny: Except give her up! And if you don't do that, I'm going to lose everything.
Sonny: You shouldn't be here. It's not safe.
Courtney: Carly is here to visit me, Sonny. We're friends.
Sonny: Okay, you should know better than to come here, put yourself and the baby at risk. You're supposed to be staying out of danger, protecting the baby.
Carly: I am.
Sonny: I don't -- you know what, this is unprotected, this place. I don't have any guards here, there's no security measures, and he's not doing anything.
Carly: I've got you and Jason to protect me here.
Sonny: No, no, look -- you need to tell me, okay, that you're going to stay away from -- from here. Our baby is too important for you to go anywhere near Jason.
Courtney: Sonny, Jason is out of your business. You fired him, remember? He is not the danger to Carly and the baby -- you are.
Sonny: He's in a place right now where anybody can get him. Do you know the risk this man has taken to be with you? Huh? My enemies don't care that I fired him. If they're smart, they'll want to keep me vulnerable. That means they'll kill him to cripple me. That is the world I live in, little girl. Those are the lives you're risking every day by going on with this farce. His life, my life, Carly’s life, the baby's life, your own -- not that you give a damn because you're so caught up in this dream world to understand. It's going to end in a bloodbath.
Jason: No, that's enough.
Sonny: Tell her, Jason.
Jason: Stop.
Sonny: Tell her the truth!
Carly: Okay, you --
Sonny: Stop lying to her!
Carly: Sweetheart, you are right. You are right. You're so right -- I shouldn't have come here. I shouldn't have come and I'm --
Sonny: Take it easy.
Carly: I'm not going to do it again. Come on. Take me home.
Sonny: I'm fine. Move.
Carly: You know what? You need to take me home --
Sonny: Listen; just know that I warned you, okay? Know that I warned you and that -- all right.
Carly: Okay.
Sonny: Come on.
Courtney: How could you and Carly let Sonny get away with that?
Ric: Whoa.
Elizabeth: Will you promise me one thing? You won't move into Jason’s penthouse.
Ric: Jason moved out.
Elizabeth: You're not planning on moving there, are you?
Ric: Oh, what are you telling me, that you're not going to come visit me if I do?
Elizabeth: And are you telling me that living above Kelly’s is no longer good enough now that you're on retainer to Sonny?
Ric: Well, you know --
Elizabeth: Oh, you see? You're already changing.
Ric: No, no, no, no. Really, look -- my only plan apartment-wise is to find a little bit more space, definitely a lot more privacy, and maybe a couple of walls to hang the works of this artist that I’ve been following. I really love her work.
Elizabeth: Really?
Ric: Mm-hmm.
Elizabeth: What is it about her work that you love so much?
Ric: Well, it's -- it's witty but passionate. It's playfully sensual, very fun. But it's meaningful all at the same time. You know, and no matter where I’m living, whether it's a penthouse across from Sonny's or a townhouse 20 miles away, as long as I have a wall to hang my Webber collection, a place that I can spend a little time with the -- with the artist. Hmm?
[Phone rings]
Ric: Okay.
Elizabeth: All right, see you.
Ric: Right.
[Ring]
Ric: Ah, this thing. Yeah, hello? Where are you?
[Zander coughs]
Gia: Is he all right?
Paramedic: Yeah, he caught a lot of smoke, but he needs to lie still and keep that mask on. We need a doctor here!
Zander: Call my father.
Monica: Ned? Ned, it's okay. It's all right.
Ned: Kristina? Kristina --
Monica: Kristina's fine.
Ned: What happened to Kristina?
Monica: She's fine, Ned. She's with Alan.
Ned: Are you sure she's okay?
Monica: Yes, I am sure. I saw her. Apparently, A.J. saw the fire from the house and he went and got Kristina out. So she's okay, all right?
Ned: What about Beth?
Monica: Who's Beth?
[Ned coughs]
Ned: The nanny.
Monica: I don't know.
Ned: The nanny.
Monica: I don't know. Kristina was alone, I guess.
Ned: No, no, no.
[Ned coughs]
Ned: Beth was with her.
Monica: Ned, I talked to the firemen. They said they went in and they checked. Kristina was alone. I'm sure there's an explanation for this.
Alan: Well, that wasn't a very long nap, was it? Was that good?
[Kristina coos]
Alan: Is that -- yeah, you say it for yourself. Alexis, you're not supposed to be here.
Alexis: Alan, she wasn't supposed to be left alone in a house by herself. The house wasn't supposed to catch on fire. I'm not supposed to be worried that her life is endangered while she's here. I mean, isn't that the point of the custody ruling, is to protect my daughter? Please, I worry about her.
[Kristina fusses]
Alexis: I just want to hold her. Just let me hold her for a minute.
Alan: It's okay. Okay. All right, just for a moment, but don't try anything, Alexis.
Alexis: I'm --
Alan: Go on, take her.
Alexis: Hi, there.
Alan: There.
Alexis: Hi. Baby, are you okay? I was worried about you.
Alan: Okay, there. You got to hold her.
Alexis: Alan, it's a second.
Alan: I just said you get to hold her just for a minute.
Alexis: Just for one more minute.
Alan: Look, Alexis, don't start trouble with me.
Alexis: I'm not. I'm just standing here with her. I'm not -- what am I going to
Edward: I beg to differ. Now, you hand over that child and you leave.
Alexis: I can’t. No, not now. Just give me a second, Edward.
Scott: Wrong answer, Alexis.
Alexis: What are you doing here?
Scott: Hand the baby over or I’ll have to arrest you.
[Kristina cries]
Alexis: You called him?
Edward: Look, you murdered one man and you stabbed your doctor.
A.J.: You're mentally ill.
Edward: And we were worried about little Kristina, apparently with very good reason.
Alexis: Shh.
Scott: You just dodged a life sentence. Don't go to jail for this.
Alexis: It's all right.
Alan: Alexis, give me the baby back.
Alexis: Alan, please, you have to understand how I feel. She doesn't belong here. Shh.
Scott: I will arrest you -- make no mistake of that -- and the judge will send you to the nut house.
Alexis: It's okay, it's okay. Shh, it's all right.
Scott: Yeah, I need a squad car at the Quartermaines.
Alan: Come on, Alexis.
Alexis: I love you. I love you, sweetie. It's all right. It's all right.
Alan: I got you.
Edward: Alan, take the baby upstairs. I don't want to subject the child to this.
Alexis: I love you, baby.
Scott: As an officer of the court, I'm going to have to report this to Judge Farmer.
Alexis: Go ahead. In fact, I’d like you to. Why don't you tell Judge Farmer that my daughter was trapped in a burning building and could have died?
Scott: Accidents happen.
Alexis: And children die in them, especially when they're neglected. My daughter was alone. Why don't you tell Judge Farmer that?
Scott: Alone? Where was the nanny?
A.J.: We're not sure.
Edward: There must have been some mix-up in communications.
Scott: Oh, yeah. Ned was busy communicating with Faith Rosco on the pier.
Alexis: What do you mean?
Scott: Was playing a little hokey-pokey right there in public.
Edward: Oh, that's preposterous. Come on.
Scott: Well, I was there with the patrolman. We ticketed him. We almost booked him.
Alexis: That's the man who they gave custody of my daughter to because I’m supposed to be unfit? I'm supposed to be a danger?
A.J.: Well, Ned is far from perfect, but he hasn't killed anyone yet.
Scott: Kristina picked a couple of lemons for parents. If she wasn't a Quartermaine, she'd be in a foster home.
Edward: But she is a Quartermaine.
Alexis: She's mine. Go to hell, Edward.
Edward: Five, four, three, two, one. Gentlemen, we have arrived at the final stage.
Taggert: You have any idea how the fire started?
Ned: No.
[Ned coughs]
Ned: But before you do anything else, I want you to find this so-called nanny and I want you to arrest her for child endangerment.
Taggert: Do you have any idea of an address?
Ned: Call my secretary. And you better hope that you find this woman before I do.
[Zander coughs]
Man: Be sure to keep this clean.
Cameron: Well, reckless as always, but I suppose from certain perspectives it could be seen as brave. That's pretty nasty. Did you put any sulfur cream on it?
Zander: Look, don't worry about this. Look, I asked Gia to bring you down here because Alexis is freaking out about her baby. Go find her and help her.
Cameron: Here, I'll do it.
Man: I can handle it.
Cameron: Leave.
Zander: Alexis is in trouble. She is your patient.
Cameron: And you're my son.
Carly: Sonny, will you listen --
Sonny: No, I don't want -- don't start, don't start. I don't want to hear how much, you know, Jason’s your best friend and how much you can't turn your back on him and you need him. He's off-limits until he gets his head on straight.
Carly: Okay, that's fine. Now, can I say what I was planning on saying? It has nothing to do with Jason, nothing to do with Courtney. Look at you -- you haven't eaten, you haven't slept. And if you keep this up, you're going to be so broken down that you aren't going to make it through our baby's first year. I mean, have you even read any of the books that I wanted you to look at? The baby books? Do you know that babies eat all the time? You have to feed them at midnight, at 2:00, at 4:00, at 6:00 in the morning? And that when you want to play with them, they're going to be sleepy. And when you want to sleep, they're going to be playing. They'll be wide awake; you're going to be dead on your feet. Honey, you think what you do is difficult? Just wait. It's nothing compared to having a baby. Think running your territory is going to be difficult? You need to sit.
Sonny: No, I got --
Carly: No, no, no, don't even start. Sit.
Courtney: Sonny was being cruel and unfair, Jason. To say that you betrayed him? To say that I wanted to put his family in danger? Okay, I don't know, maybe you and Carly have learned to deal with Sonny by letting him accuse you of whatever he wants, but I can’t. That's not me.
Jason: Just hold on a minute. When Sonny gets like this, arguing with him doesn't work.
Courtney: So -- so Sonny just gets to be abusive, and we have to sit around and take it?
Jason: No, Sonny's not really fighting with us. He's fighting himself right now. And the only person with enough power to bring Sonny down is Sonny.
Courtney: Okay, I'm lost.
[Phone rings]
Jason: I got to take this. Yeah? All right. Okay. No, I'm coming. I got to go.
Courtney: Be careful, okay?
Elizabeth: Oh, you are so busted.
Lucky: Okay, it's true. You know what? I'm running out of money. I don't have a steady job, and I'm using whatever money I have left to feed my music habit, okay? Do I qualify for an addict yet?
Elizabeth: Your secret is safe with me.
Lucky: Thank you. So, hey, is there any more news on that fire at the Quartermaine'?
Elizabeth: I called my gram, and she said that Ned and Zander have been brought into the E.R. with smoke inhalation, but they're expected to be released. And apparently, the baby didn't even need to be brought in.
Lucky: Well, that's good.
Elizabeth: Yeah.
Lucky: So what happened with your boyfriend?
Elizabeth: He had a meeting.
Lucky: So you're admitting Ric Lansing is your boyfriend?
Elizabeth: Maybe I am.
Ric: You're actually going through with this? You know, you do realize that when you do this, there is a strong possibility that not even archaeologists are going to be able to find your remains.
Faith: Well, I notice that you're not trying to stop me.
Ric: What do I care? Even if this plan of yours does fail, it'll still keep Sonny and Jason at odds, which works for me. I'm going to keep dismantling Sonny's life from the inside. I don't care about the particulars. Jason will take everything that belongs to Sonny and Sonny will be forced to kill him, or some other betrayal will bring him down. All I care about is that Sonny's life ends up in shreds and I’m alive to watch it happen.
Carly: Well, I hope Leticia’s ready for a new baby because I’m not sure either of us are.
Sonny: What are you talking about? You just told me what was involved.
Carly: Yeah.
Sonny: You nurse a baby, you change him when he needs it, and you pick her up if she starts to cry, so what could be so hard about that?
Carly: And how many infants have you cared for?
Sonny: Uh -- none.
Carly: No, didn't think so. And neither have I, really, since I had postpartum so badly after Michael was first born. I was gone for that whole month, and I was afraid to hold him after that. Then by the time I did pick him up and give him a bottle, did you know that he was already 3 months old? And he screamed and he cried for Jason the whole time.
Sonny: I'm sure we'll figure it out. Anyway, we got Leticia to pick up the slack, right?
Carly: Yeah.
Sonny: You know what?
Carly: What, what, what?
Sonny: Have you eaten?
Carly: Yes. I ate scrambled eggs for breakfast, orange juice, two glasses of milk.
Sonny: Okay, how about since then?
Carly: No, I'm not hungry, sweetie.
Sonny: See? I knew you were going to say that. And the baby's starving, and I’m going to make you something --
Carly: No, no, no -- wait, wait, wait.
Sonny: What?
Carly: Wait, wait, wait --
Sonny: I'm just going to make you some --
Carly: Okay, okay, you can make me dinner. I have one condition, though -- no, two.
Sonny: Okay.
Carly: You have to match me bite for bite, and then you have to promise to close your eyes and relax just a little bit while I go upstairs. Yeah, like that.
Sonny: All right, deal.
Carly: And -- okay, good.
Sonny: All right.
Carly: Close your eyes. Close. Relax.
Sonny: I don't want to.
Carly: Shh.
Sonny: All right.
Carly: Shh.
Jason: Hey.
Greg: Thanks for coming.
Jason: What happened?
Greg: People are losing confidence in Sonny.
Jason: Inside or outside?
Greg: Both. Sonny's been acting strange lately, like how he put Faith Rosco in front of the five families.
Jason: Yeah, Max told me.
Greg: Johnny -- he's got a big mouth. He said twice already how Sonny's losing control.
Jason: No, no, Sonny's in control. He's heading the operation just like he always has. Okay? And if anyone asks you that, that's what you need to tell them. You understand?
Greg: Yeah.
Jason: Okay. Now, if anything happens -- a threat toward Sonny, you need to do what you did tonight. You need to call me immediately. Whatever it is, I will handle it.
Scott: You Quartermaines are something, huh? Catching Ned with his pants down -- I like that. But burning down your own gatehouse?
Alan: It needed to be renovated anyway.
Scott: With a helpless baby in there? That's appalling. And I don't appall easily.
Edward: Surely, you, Baldwin, can understand how easily appearances can deceive. For your information, that child was nowhere near the fire. And really, all you need to know, in addition to lining your pockets, is that tonight's little exercise in synchronized deception really just fostered the greater good.
Scott: Well, I'm all for the greater good.
Edward: Here's for your re-election campaign.
Scott: Thank you, Edward.
Edward: Reginald, Mr. Baldwin's leaving. Will you make sure that he gets to his car? Good night.
Alan: I still say that Scott could be a problem.
A.J.: Mm-hmm. Involving Baldwin could be a huge mistake.
Edward: Oh, no. Baldwin has served his purpose -- first with Ned, and now by sending Alexis screaming in Ned’s direction. It's only a matter of time -- really, a few minutes, actually -- before Alexis inadvertently delivers Kristina right into our custody. Hmm?
Zander: I warned Alexis that you would let her down.
Cameron: Alexander, hold still.
Gia: Zander, let your father help you.
Zander: Alexis is the one that needs his help right now.
Gia: I'll track down Alexis, all right?
Zander: All right. Try her cell first. You haven't changed a bit, have you? I've done fine without you for the past years, and now Alexis is the one that needs your help and you abandon her to help a son that you gave up on a long time ago.
Cameron: Can't win with you, can I?
Monica: No. Now, who let you in here?
Reporter: Come on, Doc. We're about to go live. I swear we'll be here for one second.
Monica: I'm serious.
Reporter: Here he is. Come on. Let's go, in five, four, three, two -- I'm here in the emergency room of General Hospital, where one of the heroes from tonight's near-tragic fire was brought in suffering from smoke inhalation and a serious burn to his hand. Zander Smith, we're on live. Would you like to comment on your brave actions at the Quartermaine estate earlier?
Zander: Look, not every father would rush into a burning building to rescue his child. You want to talk to a hero? Go talk to Ned Ashton. Come on, Gia, let's go.
Reporter: Let's see if we can get a comment from Mr. Ashton.
Alexis: Where's Ned?
Alexis: What were you thinking?
Ned: Alexis, calm down. Just listen to what I --
Alexis: They gave you custody of my daughter, and you almost got her killed!
[Ned coughs]
Monica: Alexis, calm down.
Alexis: You don't understand. This is as calm as I can get under these circumstances.
Cameron: All right, Doctor, let me take a look.
Ned: Wait -- Alexis, please, let's not do this in public, okay?
Alexis: Why not? You do everything else in public. I trusted you with my baby.
Ned: Look, I left Kristina with a nanny, okay? That's all I can tell you.
Alexis: So that you could do what, Ned? Tell me what was so important that couldn't wait.
Ned: Alexis, she wasn't hurt, okay? She's okay.
Alexis: And that makes it okay? I can't believe you're saying this, Ned. Why did you want her? Why did you want her if you're not going to stay home and take care of her? Or did you just do it so that you could hurt me?
Ned: I didn't do it to hurt you.
Alexis: You left her alone at the house --
Ned: I didn't! I left her with a nanny!
Alexis: You hired a nanny so you could run off and have sex with somebody on the pier, for God's sake.
Cameron: Alexis, let's go.
Alexis: I'm not going anywhere until I’m sure that my daughter is going to be safe.
Monica: Alexis, you are upset, but you have no need to be. Your daughter is fine.
Alexis: I am not comfortable with you taking care of her. You have proven to be unfit, you have endangered my daughter. She is not safe. She almost died. I –
[TV mutes]
Edward: Hello, Nancy? This is Edward. Are you by any chance watching television? Oh, good. If you will switch on to channel 7, you will see something that really affects the welfare of my baby great-granddaughter, Kristina. Uh-huh.
Lucky: You remember when you got this job?
Elizabeth: Yeah. Ruby was sure I'd be a terrible waitress, but you convinced her to give me a shot.
Lucky: Well, I was watching you and you were --
Elizabeth: You never watched me. You barely even knew I existed.
Lucky: Well, I probably paid more attention than you thought. You know, I just noticed when you were locking the door -- I flashed this image of you when you were sneaking behind Ruby's back to go smoke a cigarette.
Elizabeth: Do you know how thrilled I would have been to think that you noticed anything about me back then? Even an illegal cigarette break?
Lucky: Well, you know, I noticed that you were a terrible waitress --
Elizabeth: Oh.
Lucky: But you improved with practice.
Elizabeth: Yeah, over years and years. I know better than to look back. But sometimes it's hard to stop, especially when the past looks so great.
Lucky: You know, the pain fades. What's left are the things that you loved. You know, it's not real -- you know, just the things that are fading. You know, it's just the best of who you were. It's how much you wanted your life to be.
Elizabeth: Instead of how it turned out?
Lucky: You know, I'm hoping -- you know, I'm hoping things haven't turned out yet. I just kind of feel like I’m in a dumpy truck stop right now in a back highway of my life and things are going to get much better.
Elizabeth: You know what's scary about something better? The possibility that it isn't, that you're making yet another mistake.
Lucky: What, are you thinking this Ric Lansing is a truck stop after all?
Elizabeth: Oh, God, I hope not. He's really wonderful, Lucky. He's smart and successful, and he -- he respects me as an artist. And I -- I really want to trust him, but I keep thinking what if it's too good to be true? You know what? I'm sorry. I -- I shouldn't be talking to you about this.
Lucky: No, no, you know what? I'm happy for you. You've found someone. Just only on one condition.
Elizabeth: Oh, yeah? What's that?
Lucky: Well, if this Ric Lansing is too good to be true, and if he does anything to hurt you, I reserve the right to kick his butt.
Elizabeth: Well, hopefully, that's not necessary. But it's nice to know you're still on my side.
Lucky: Always.
Carly: Sonny?
Sonny: Be careful.
Carly: Ah!
Sonny: No!
Sonny: Carly. Wake up. No!
Carly: Sonny, are you okay?
Sonny: Don't move.
Courtney: Hey. Is everything okay?
Jason: Yeah, yeah, pretty much. What are you reading?
Courtney: It's just a brochure for a college in Vermont. Ric sent it over when he was trying to impress Sonny with how helpful he could be. Some of the classes actually look pretty interesting, you know?
Jason: Are thinking about going?
Courtney: No. Of course not. You're stuck with me.
Jason: Well, I don't -- I don't think of it like that. I love walking through the door and having you here.
Courtney: Yeah? Would you like it as much if I were asking you to be quiet because I was studying?
Jason: Studying what?
Courtney: Oh, I don't know. But I -- I have no intention of being a waitress all my life. You know? There's no way that Sonny is ever sending me away to college. So I thought maybe I would enroll someplace local -- P.C.U. or Chamberlain. City College. It's probably more realistic, anyway. I mean, I probably wouldn't qualify for a scholarship, and tuition is so expensive.
Jason: I'll pay.
Courtney: I was just thinking out loud, Jason. No, I wasn't asking for money.
Jason: I know, but, look, I have -- I got plenty of money. I mean, I don't use it.
Courtney: I like to pay my own way.
Jason: Look, I could give you a scholarship -- you just said you would take one -- or maybe just a loan.
Courtney: Yeah, sure, like you'd ever let me pay you back.
Jason: Okay, Brenda -- I just gave Brenda a lot of money, okay, when she left, and she swears that she's going to be pay me back. And whatever she pays me back, or whatever you pay me back, I'm just going to do something good with it anyway.
Courtney: What, you mean like give it to a charity?
Jason: Yeah, exactly like that.
Courtney: Yeah? Which one?
Jason: Well, you pick. I don't -- I don't know.
Courtney: Okay, so let me get this straight. You're going to give me money for college --
Jason: Right.
Courtney: And when I get a job --
[Phone rings]
Courtney: I'm going to start paying you back.
Jason: Hold on.
[Ring]
[Courtney sighs]
Jason: Yeah?
Faith: Listen carefully. You're ready to take over Sonny's organization. I am willing to work with you if you cooperate. This is a one-time-only offer. You would be wise to accept it. If you don't, I can destroy your life. Now, I know you don't believe me, so I’m about to prove it to you. Your girlfriend is in the crosshairs of a sniper's rifle.
[Gunshot]
On the next "General Hospital" --
Alexis: She could have burned to death, Ned.
Ned: Would you turn that thing off!
Skye: If Ned had been killed in that fire, you'd be looking at a murder charge.
Sonny: I can't shake the feeling, Carly, that something bad is going to happen. Do you understand?
Ric: I hope you didn't just cut both of our throats.
