Lucky: All we've got to do is find what Scott has against Alexis. Then we're free and clear.
Nikolas: What are we looking for, exactly?
Jason: You going to be all right?
Courtney: I think so, yeah.
Carly: I'm not going to let you hurt Sonny again. Get out.
Sonny: You all right?
Edward: Oh, hello, Alexis. Thank you for coming. Say, is there anything that I could have Reginald bring you? Any sudden cravings for anything --
Alexis: Edward, what did you want to see me about?
Edward: Well, I just wanted to be sure that you are prepared for the -- for the big debate.
Alexis: Yes, I am, Edward.
Edward: Then it'll be quite a feather in the cap of the next Quartermaine heir to be born with his mother as the district attorney.
Alexis: No, thanks. Edward, you know what? I've got a lot of issues that I need to brush up on --
Edward: Well, fine. Why don't we just sit down --
Alexis: So I really should --
Edward: Speaking of issues, that brings me right to my point. It's time for us to be realistic, my dear. Now, Scott Baldwin will be able, I think, to uncover some unpleasant dirt on you. God knows with your -- with your family and with your brief stint as a mouthpiece for the mob, shouldn't be difficult. So, that is why --
Alexis: Edward, whatever that is, I'm not --
Edward: No, no, no. You see, you need some mud to sling back -- or better yet, to sling forward. Now, I have a list of possibilities --
Alexis: Edward --
Edward: That we could --
Alexis: Listen carefully.
Edward: What?
Alexis: I'm not going to be indebted to you for anything -- particularly for the past sins of Scott Baldwin. My campaign is going to be aboveboard all the way.
Scott: Breaking and entering the district attorney's office to steal confidential information for the opposing side.
Nikolas: This has nothing to do with the campaign --
Scott: Whoa! I don't think you should say anything until your lawyer is present because you two are both facing criminal charges. See, now, that process could take a little bit of time, and being as though I need my beauty sleep for the big debate, I might be willing to just let this all go, come to some sort of mutual agreement.
Courtney: God.
Courtney: Oh, my God.
[Jax groans]
[Jax groans]
Sonny: Brenda? Brenda? What happened? Hey -- hey, hey, hey -- is there anything I can help you with?
Brenda: No.
Sonny: What's wrong?
Brenda: I'm fine.
Sonny: Are you --
Brenda: Sorry. No, I'm fine. I'm just going to the hospital. Jax might be paralyzed, so --
Sonny: You need a drive?
Brenda: No, I'm fine. I'm just going to take a cab. Thanks.
Carly: Hey.
Sonny: Hey.
Carly: How'd things go with Mike?
Sonny: Mike's been drunk for -- for days. He's -- you know, Jason and Courtney had to drag him out of a bar. How'd it go with Brenda after I left?
Carly: How do you think?
Carly: Look, Brenda has no use for me, I have no use for her, and it went back and forth like that for a while, ok? And I just want you to know she was fine when she left. She only got needy when you stepped off the elevator.
Sonny: I know you got a lot of reasons not to like Brenda, but you got to take my word, ok? Brenda is not a threat. There's no need to get defensive. I am where I want to be. I said that to you. You promised you believed me.
Carly: You, I believe. Ok, Brenda is another story. I know what she managed to do to you and Lily.
Sonny: Ok, that was a long time ago under very different circumstances.
Carly: No, Sonny, she's going to play you every single chance she gets, ok? She's going to need your help or she's going to need you to feel sorry for her. Basically, she's going to need your attention because then she'll get Jax's attention, too.
Sonny: Ok, you know what? What you're saying is probably true, but it does not change the fact that Brenda suffered because of me.
Carly: Brenda chose Alcazar, ok? She chose Jax, too. And any pain that you caused her was years ago.
Sonny: Ok, so you just want me to pretend like it never happened?
Carly: Yes!
Sonny: Is that what you want?
Carly: I would. I would love that.
Sonny: Ok.
Carly: Ok?
Sonny: Right.
Carly: But I know you and I know that's impossible. No, I'm fine, thank you. Listen, I just -- I guess my question is, how far are you going to go to make up for it?
Brenda: Bobbie?
Bobbie: Thank you.
Brenda: Sorry. I was just wondering if there's any change in Jax's condition.
Bobbie: I've got his chart right here. I'm sorry. No change. He has been given something to help him sleep.
Brenda: Ok. I'm just going to check on him. I won't wake him up.
Bobbie: Brenda -- patients aren't the only ones who need sleep. Where are you staying?
Brenda: The Quartermaines'. I'm just going to check on him, and then I'm going to go there and get some sleep.
Bobbie: Ok.
Brenda: Thanks.
[Brenda gasps]
Brenda: We need somebody in here!
Jax: No, no --
Brenda: Jax!
Jax: It's ok -- no, no!
Brenda: You ok?
Jax: I'm ok.
Brenda: Are you all right? What are you doing?
Jax: I don't need your help, Brenda. I don't need your help, ok?
Scott: You boys are here for one or two reasons -- you're trying to see what I have on Alexis or you're trying to get some dirt on me. Either way, it's not good for you two. So, all you have to do is admit that Alexis set you up and I will drop the charges, or --
Nikolas: Alexis -- Alexis knew nothing about this.
Scott: Or I'll have you arrested, and you'll make the late news, and tomorrow morning your two mug shots will be right in the morning paper.
Nikolas: We were here on our own, ok?
Lucky: We were actually looking for evidence to exonerate my dad.
Scott: There isn't any.
Lucky: I'm sure.
Nikolas: Ok, you know what? That's fine, Mr. Big shot D.A. You go and press charges, because while we're telling the press about Lucky's dad, we might as well suggest to them that they dig into how he escaped under your watchful eye. You remember how that happened?
Lucky: I think it was something about how Baldwin ordered the transport van off the road.
Nikolas: That's what it was -- transport van.
Scott: No, I don't think you two knuckleheads want to dig that up.
Nikolas: What else is the new interim D.A. hiding? You like that?
Scott: That's good.
Lucky: That's good. Because we could spotlight how you railroaded and wrongly convicted my father.
Scott: You know, families of all criminals -- they tend to sing that same little song.
Nikolas: Well, it is kind of funny that Alexis isn't using every opportunity to point out the Mr. D.A.'s questionable behavior to the press. You know what I'm saying?
Lucky: That's because, Nikolas, my brother, Alexis is running a clean campaign.
Nikolas: That's right. It's a clean campaign. I forgot. Clean campaign.
Scott: You know, Alexis -- she has her own little secrets. Now, if you want to open up the door to cover-ups, you know, be my guest. However, it's not about the truth when it comes to elections. It's like the little hint of a little, teeny, little lie that gets things all goofed up. So, what do you say, fellas?
Lucky: Go right ahead.
Scott: You know what's so sad to me? Little Lesley Lu. She lost her mother, father. Now she's going to lose her two brothers. Ok. Let's see. Call Alexis Davis. D. D, d, d, d.
Edward: Now, it may be all well and good for you to present yourself as the savior of Port Charles, but the cold, hard truth of the fact is that you were the mouthpiece for the mob. Your closet is -- is filled with skeletons. Of course, fortunately, so is Scott Baldwin's.
Alexis: You have no idea.
Edward: What? You have something on him, something that I could use?
Alexis: No.
Edward: Were you -- were you in Port Charles when Scott had his license to practice law suspended? You know what he did? He slept with a member of the New York state ethics committee to be reinstated. Hmm. If he gives you any static about being an unwed mother, just ask him whose baby Lucy Coe was carrying when she married Alan. He used that fact to blackmail his way back in as E.L.Q. Counsel, all the while he was having an affair with Tracy.
Ned: Grandfather --
Edward: Who--
Ned: Stop. Stop.
Edward: Ned, slinging mud is part of running for office.
Ned: What the hell is going on?
Alexis: He's trying to use dirt on Scott to try to get his hands on the baby.
[Phone rings]
Alexis: Hello?
Scott: Yeah, you're going to want to come down to my office pronto.
Alexis: Why?
Scott: Well, I just caught your not-so-clever nephew and his hotheaded brother rifling through my office.
Alexis: I'll be right there. It's been predictable, Edward, but I got to run. Got business to do.
Ned: Is everything all right?
Alexis: It will be. Play nice.
Ned: I can't ever leave you alone.
Edward: Ned, Ned, Ned, now, listen, young man. You should thank me for supporting your love child's mother.
Ned: Actually, I had just the opposite in mind.
Jason: You ok? What's the flour for?
Courtney: To throw in this guy's face if he showed up. Couldn't think of anything better. Look, I'm really sorry to keep bothering you like this.
Jason: No, don't worry about it.
Courtney: When I got home, my computer was on and it said that I had an e-mail. So I clicked on it, and suddenly I'm looking at myself through some hidden camera. I looked around for it, and I found it over there. But after I got rid of it, I looked back, and this was on the screen. I started looking for the other cameras, but I realized that this guy is probably watching me. And I just got totally creeped out, and I went outside and I called you. What if he can hear us?
Jason: Let him. Uh-huh. Let him know that you have help and that you're smart and that he's the one who should start being worried.
Courtney: It's pretty obvious that this guy wants me to know that he can get in here.
Jason: And it's obvious he wants you to know that he's watching you and he wants you to be afraid. So you have to show him that you're not.
Jason: Now, listen. Information is one of your best weapons, ok? The more you know about what you're dealing with, the better your chances for getting rid of this guy.
Courtney: Well, is it time to go to the police?
Jason: I wouldn't.
Courtney: Why?
Jason: Well, because they have a grudge against Sonny and you're his sister. They'd probably just pawn it off to some rookie cop who really wouldn't do his job, or he'd just file it away or probably wouldn't do nothing, but that's your decision.
Courtney: Well, what are my other choices?
Jason: When does A.J. Get home?
Courtney: I'm not sure.
Jason: Ok, Courtney, till then, you need to get out of here. Ok? Just pack some of your stuff, grab your dog. You can stay at my place.
Scott: Well, I've got my own little mini-Watergate going.
Alexis: I think you're blowing that a bit out of proportion.
Scott: Oh, I don't know. It seemed important enough for Spin and Marty here to pick the lock, rifle through my desk. Now, let me ask you -- did you tell them what to look for, or did they put their dummy heads together and hatch this plan?
Nikolas: Alexis, we made clear -- we made clear that you knew nothing about this. The only thing we were looking for was information on Luke's case.
Lucky: Yes, save your breath. Mr. Baldwin here is not interested in the truth. All he cares about is his way, like he had with my father.
Scott: You're not improving the situation here, Lucky.
Nikolas: Hey, hey, hey, hey! Calm down!
Scott: What's the matter with you?
Lucky: I'm not interested in improving my situation, especially for you.
Alexis: Lucky, stop it.
Lucky: No, go ahead.
Nikolas: Hey, hey --
Lucky: Go ahead and press charges! I want maximum coverage down here so the world can see that the D.A. Is a liar!
Nikolas: Stop it.
Lucky: You framed my father.
Nikolas: Stop it. Will you think about Alexis, please?
Lucky: No, I'm not interested in Alexis winning! I'm interested in justice for my father, and that's what I intend to get.
Alexis: Lucky, what are you doing?
Nikolas: Hey, hey, hey, hey! Knock it off.
Scott: Nice sucker punch there, just like your father.
Nikolas: Knock it off.
Lucky: Looks like now you have to arrest me, Baldwin. What are you waiting for, buddy?
Nikolas: Stop --
Lucky: Come get me.
Nikolas: It's not making anything better.
Lucky: Huh?
Nikolas: Stop it.
Sonny: Alcazar took care of Brenda for the last four years, and now she's in limbo. She's in a place, you know, she didn't want to return to and without any way to support herself.
Carly: So, naturally, she shows up at your door.
Sonny: I want to give Brenda some money, and I want her to be able to have some independence and enjoy her life, you know, while she still can. You know, I mean, that way, you know, she can take care of herself instead of depending on the Quartermaines.
Carly: Or Jax. Ok. I get it. That's what this is really about, isn't it?
Sonny: No --
Carly: Yeah.
Sonny: Not necessarily.
Carly: Yes, it is. It is. It is. Neither one of the guys can have the girl, yet they're still going to fight over who gets to be her hero. Uh-uh.
Sonny: I handed Brenda over to Jax the day I didn't show up to that wedding.
Carly: Right, for her own good.
Sonny: But it didn't turn out that way.
Carly: What, so you wish you had shown up at that church?
Sonny: No. Brenda can't deal with my life the way you can. It would have destroyed her. But she lost four years to Alcazar. She's got nothing left. Ok, I want her, you know, to have a good life, ok, and just live it out on her own terms. It's going to be, like, my final present to her. I mean, if -- if you don't object.
Bobbie: Ok. There you go.
Jax: What are you still doing here?
Brenda: Making sure you're ok.
Jax: I don't need your help. You can go.
Bobbie: You heard the patient.
Jax: Go on. Go, please.
Woman: Thank you.
Brenda: Outside line?
Woman: Just dial nine.
Brenda: Thanks.
Brenda: Hello? Skye, it's Brenda.
Skye: Is something wrong?
Brenda: Jax needs you.
Skye: I'm on my way.
Bobbie: Page Dr. Bennett.
Woman: I already did.
Bobbie: Thank you.
Jax: I'm ok. You can leave, too.
Bobbie: Jax, you just had spinal surgery and the wound is nowhere close to being healed. Now, if you think you have problems now, an infection in your spinal cord could make things much worse. What were you trying to do -- prove that doctors are wrong? Jax, there was a time when the doctors told me I would never walk again. I'm proof that the doctors don't know everything. If you want to improve your chances for recovery, show the courage I know you have. Let the people who love you be with you.
Carly: I think giving Brenda the money would be a great idea.
Sonny: Because you're hoping she'll use it to leave town?
Carly: It's what she says she wants. Of course, she said that she didn't want to see you, yet she set up that rendezvous at the church.
Sonny: Mm-hmm.
Carly: She didn't want to hurt Jax, but somehow he wound up getting shot anyway. Look, I am trying to be patient and understanding about Brenda, but I love you, Sonny, and I -- you know, I'm just going to be honest here. I don't know how long I can put up with it.
Sonny: Look, I know that, truly, this is killing you, ok, and I don't want you to be hurt. But this is -- it's going to be over soon.
Carly: No. It won't be over until she gets out of town. So the sooner you give her the money, the sooner she can go. Really, you know what? I don't mean to be rude here, but why put off till tomorrow what you can take care of tonight?
Sonny: So you want me to give Brenda the check tonight?
Carly: Yeah, I do.
Brenda: I know you don't want me in here, but I'm staying. I'm sorry.
Jax: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken it out on you. You can come in if you want.
Brenda: Really?
Jax: Yes, really.
Brenda: Why'd you try to get out of bed? Because they told you you can't?
Jax: Wasn't one of my finer moments.
Brenda: Well, you've seen all of my finer moments. Should we go over a few right now? I could re-embarrass myself?
Jax: No.
Brenda: Might make you feel better.
Jax: That's really not necessary.
Brenda: I'm sorry. I called Skye. Ooh. Here she is. I'll see you later.
Jax: Bye.
Brenda: Bye.
Skye: Bye.
Jax: Hey. I suppose Brenda filled you in.
Skye: Bobbie did. All that Brenda said was you needed me.
Monica: Oh, good.
Brenda: Oh.
Monica: Good. I am going home, and you're coming with me. And that is not a request. That's an order. Come on.
Skye: Jax, I know you want to test your strength, but you're barely out of surgery. No, don't send me home again so you can try another stunt like this on your own, ok? Together forever, no matter what. You promised. I'm in this for the long haul.
Jason: Courtney, if you don't want to stay with me because of A.J., I understand that. But you need to get out of here, so you need to stay at Sonny's where there's bodyguards outside the door, where this guy cannot --
Courtney: No, no, no. Staying with you or Sonny isn't an option. A.J. -- When he found out that I worked at the oasis, he made me promise him that I wouldn't go to anybody else if I were in trouble.
Jason: Ok, so call him and tell him to come home.
Courtney: He's in the middle of a court case. You can't exactly say, "excuse me, your honor, but can we postpone this for a couple months?"
Jason: Yeah, you can. Trials can be postponed.
Courtney: And I'm the reason that A.J. is broke, ok -- because he refused to do what his grandfather wanted and dump me. I can handle this. I don't want to make A.J. start all over again.
Jason: All right, so what do you want to do?
Courtney: I want A.J. to win his court case and I want this sick creep to leave me alone. I don't know. I'm open for suggestions. Maybe I can stay with -- with one of my friends. Maybe one of the other waitresses or my friend Wynona from the Oasis. But if this guy is willing to go to this much trouble, the only way to get rid of this guy is to catch him, right?
Jason: Yes. That's right. But we need to make sure that you don't get hurt in the process.
Courtney: Well, I want to get rid of this guy, so just tell me, how do I fight back?
Scott: Looks like I'm going to have a black eye for the debate.
Alexis: And if you say how you got it, I'll ask you what you said to make Lucky so angry as to do such a horrible thing. And then we'll bring the debate to the place where I question your performance as acting D.A. So, go ahead. Arrest him.
Scott: I think I'll drop the charges out of respect to their mother, to Bobbie. But, Lucky, if you ever punch me again, I'll have you arrested.
Nikolas: Let's go.
Alexis: Come on.
Nikolas: Let's go.
Alexis: Come on.
Lucky: I'm not done with you.
Nikolas: Come on, let's go.
Alexis: Let's go. Out.
Scott: Alexis?
Alexis: Yes?
Scott: In the meantime, keep those two under control, ok? Otherwise, I may have to start playing dirty.
Alexis: As if you haven't already.
Scott: Well, I don't think the boys found what they were looking for.
Alexis: Mm-hmm. See, you just made it seem like there really is something to look for. Thanks for the warning.
Nikolas: Ok, you have every right to be mad.
Alexis: Whatever you two think you were doing in there, don't ever do that again. Because if I want to win, I need to be above reproach and so do you. Bad idea. Really bad idea.
Nikolas: You're right. It was a bad move. We're sorry. Scott can't have anything incriminating, and no one else has less to hide than you.
Ned: The baby remains off limits, no matter how you think you can wrangle Alexis into the fold.
Edward: Hmm. You know something, Ned? I don't understand you. I really don't. First, you gave one baby away to the Cerullos, and little Brooke Lynn could be a princess. But, instead, she'll probably end up being the toast of Benson Hurst. And now you want to give this baby away to Alexis? My God, the only thing missing from her family tree is a werewolf. Ned, don't -- don't you care anything about your children, about guidance, about opportunities, about exerting a positive influence on their lives?
Ned: I care, grandfather. I care a lot. Especially since it was this family's influence who drove Brooke Lynn's mother screaming into the night. The last person I want guiding any child of mine is you.
Edward: Fine, but do you have to keep giving them away like door prizes?
Alan: At least he doesn't sell his children.
Ned: Leave Alexis and the baby alone.
Alan: Monica's on her way with Brenda. What?
Edward: Did you hear that -- "the baby"? Does that sound odd to you?
Alan: No.
Edward: Does to me. Something's not right here, Alan, and I'm going to find out what.
Reginald: Your old room is all ready for you.
Brenda: Hey, Reggie.
Edward: And you may sleep as late as you wish and the staff will be happy to bring you breakfast in bed. Bye-bye.
Brenda: Aw. Good night.
Alan: Here's a set of keys to the house.
Brenda: Thanks.
Alan: A temporary license, compliments of Mac Scorpio.
Brenda: Oh!
Monica: Now, is there anything that you need? You want a snack or something before you --
Brenda: Oh, no, no, no. I'm -- I'm ok. I'm just going to -- I'm going to go for a little walk outside and get some air, so --
Monica: Ok.
Alan: Ok.
Monica: Well, knock on our door if you need anything.
Alan: Take care.
Brenda: Ok.
Monica: Sweet dreams.
Brenda: Whew.
Sonny: Brenda?
Brenda: Ahem.
Scott: Don't ask.
Carly: I wasn't going to. Scott, I want the document back you blackmailed me into signing about Sonny's affair with Alexis.
Scott: Not on your life. That ace up my sleeve is going to win me the election.
Carly: No, it's going to cost you the election as well as your relationship with my mother.
Jax: You're not done poking me yet?
Bobbie: Dr. Bennett said the MRI doesn't show any additional damage.
Skye: Oh, thank God.
Bobbie: However, Jax, next time you might not be so lucky. So if you should decide that you want to try and move again, you need to have a physical therapist with you. Ok? All right, now, Dr. Bennett has prescribed some morphine, and that is self-dosing, so -- all you have to do -- I'm going to put this in your hand -- is you press this button whenever you're feeling any pain. All right? Now, you remember what I said to you earlier, all right? Your body needs to heal, and that means you need to get some sleep. Get some rest. Don't tough it out. If you're feeling pain, use the morphine.
Skye: Bobbie, has Dr. Bennett said anything about Jax coming home anytime soon?
Bobbie: That's probably going to be a little while. At least temporarily, you're going to need to get the house ready for wheelchair access. So I will get you the name and the number of the physical therapist who's been assigned to this case, and your therapist will have a list of contractors, of carpenters and electricians and plumbers who are familiar with this type of thing, and you'll be able to get the house ready for when you come home. Anything else?
Skye: No.
Bobbie: Ok. If you need anything, I'll -- I'll be outside.
Skye: Thanks. Hey. You know, the sooner you get better, the sooner you get out of here and you can get home where it's all manageable.
Jax: Skye, I'm going to be in a wheelchair bumping into furniture. I'm going to need help getting in and out of bed. Now, do you have a clue what you're getting into?
Skye: Yes. A lifetime of loving you.
Jax: They told you, didn't they? The doctors have told you that I'm going to be paralyzed for the rest of my life, haven't they?
Jason: Ok, whoever's doing this wants to play games with you. Do not make it easy for them. Any type of routine you have, change it. Your route to and from work should never be the same twice, ok? There shouldn't be a pattern when you take a lunch break or you pick up your dog or drop your dog off.
Courtney: Why?
Jason: Because you got to make this guy work harder to get to you. Now, there's a chance that he might get frustrated and just give up, but it's more likely he'll get sloppy and make a mistake.
Courtney: He wants me scared.
Jason: So you need to take that power away from him and give it back to you.
Courtney: Geeks that set up a computer system like this -- are they ever really dangerous?
Jason: He can only be dangerous if he gets you alone. I won't let that happen.
Courtney: Sounds like you're offering to be my bodyguard or something.
Jason: Well, I'll stay with you as much as possible until A.J. gets back. I'll walk you to work,
[Last 10 minutes was pre-empted by George Bush and his speech about his visit to Michigan]
