By Amanda [Knock on door] Ned: Jax, whatever it is, not now. Jax: Whoa. Did you pull an all-nighter? Ned: I take it you didn't? Jax: Are you kidding me? I was up all night. I just know the trick -- lots of good coffee and a run at dawn. Ned: Did I ask what you're doing here? Jax: You must be years behind at L&B. Ned: I'm asking now. Jax: No wonder you're so cranky. Ned: Okay, fine, fine. You get to be the king of the all-nighters. Jax: They don't help much, do they? Ned: Not even a little. Chloe's still gone. But the work gets done. Jax: Tell that to the Cassadines. Ned: Still raiding the empire? Jax: Now more than ever. Ned: Have you heard from Alexis? Jax: Yeah, she's still defending Stefan, even after the test results. Ned: I was afraid of that. Jax: How's your grandma? Ned: Well, she's spending a lot of time in the garden -- Chloe's favorite place. Jax: You know, I got to say, the place seems a little empty. Ned: That's the way I like it. Jax: The four of us had really good times here, didn't we? Ned: Yes, we did. Jax: Must get lonely sometimes, though. Ned: You want to skip the part where you soften me up and just pitch me the deal? Jax: Okay. How about a roommate? Ned: So the Cassadines are raiding you now? Jax: No, no, no, no. Nothing like that. Ned: Well, if you'd like me to take a few E.L.Q. shares off your hands, I'd be glad to. Jax: That won't be necessary. Ned: Jax, I understand the market's a little crazy, but there's no way we're going to share a living space. Jax: We, as in you and me? Ned: Isn't that what you're asking? Jax: Come on. Do you think I would move in here? Ned: All right. Just tell me what you want! Jax: I need you to hide someone for me. Ned: If it's your brother, you can forget about it. Jax: You're going to love this. Ned: You know, I don't need this, Jax. What are you doing to me? Jax: Whoo-whoo. The eagle's landed. Kristina: How long do you actually expect me to hide in that hedge? Jax: Ned, I would like to introduce you to -- Ned and Kristina: You. Laura: Thank you. Stefan: Laura -- Laura: Stefan. Stefan: Tell me, what is it? Laura: I saw him last night -- or -- or someone. Stefan: Stavros. Laura: I saw his reflection in the mirror. And when I turned around, he was gone. He just vanished like a ghost. Stefan: Did you call the police? Laura: No. But he did come back. Stefan: I have to get out of here. Laura: Listen, listen -- I saw a window open in my living room, and then -- and then the lights went out all of a sudden. And I just -- I felt like I was back on that island again and that Stavros was hiding somewhere in that room, waiting to attack me. Stefan: Did he -- did he hurt you? Laura: No, no. He touched me, though. I felt his breath on the back of my neck, and I screamed. I just -- and then, all of a sudden, Lucky and Roy came crashing through the front door. Stefan: Thank God. Laura: Yeah. Yeah. But he got away. Stefan: Now do you believe me? Laura: Roy found this in the front yard. Stefan: This one belonged to Stavros. Laura: I know that. Don't you think that it's possible that it is Helena doing all of this -- Stefan: Laura -- Laura: Just to toy with our minds? Stefan: Laura -- who did you see in the mirror? Laura: I don't know. It could have been anyone. Stefan: But it wasn't just anyone, and you know it. Stavros is alive. Elizabeth: Are you okay? Lucky: What do you want? Elizabeth: I need to see you. Lucky: Suit yourself. Elizabeth: Lucky, I know you don't feel anything for me -- Lucky: Just tell me what you want, Elizabeth, okay? Elizabeth: We need to get out of here. Now. Today. Lucky: Go ahead. Elizabeth: No, I mean us, Lucky. Together. Lucky: Go wherever you want, Elizabeth. I'm not going to go with you. Elizabeth: You don't understand -- Lucky: Yeah, I do understand, Elizabeth! You're trying to save me again. Why can't you just stop this? Why can't everyone just stop and trust me to save myself? Elizabeth: Will you just listen for a minute? I need you to save me. Ned: You're in hiding? Kristina: You live here? Ned: Is that why you were dressed up like a man? Jax: You dress up like a man? Kristina: Yeah, that night that I borrowed your trench coat -- Ned: She wears it much better than you, by the way. Kristina: I don't know about that hat, though, you know? Ned: So, why were you hanging out at Luke's? Kristina: Because I couldn't stand being in that hotel room -- Jax: Okay, whoa. Guys, guys, just hold on for a second here. She needs to hide somewhere immediately. Ned: Okay. I'll bite. Why? Jax: No one can know she's connected to me. Ned: Has Jax mentioned that he thinks he's the center of the universe? Kristina: Oh, thinks? He is. Jax: Okay, guys, come on. This is serious, okay? This is dangerous. Ned: Oh, great. So that's why you palm her off on me? Kristina: He's got a very good point. Jax: Yeah, but nobody wants to hurt Ned. Ned: Why does that sound like an insult? Jax: Can she stay? Ned: Jax, I don't even know who she is. Kristina: Well, why don't I tell you everything? Jax: Oh, no. Bad idea. Kristina: Why I don't I tell you every single detail? Jax: No! Kristina: No, you can't stop me. Jax: Okay, you know what? Perhaps you should think about this -- Kristina: I'm in hiding, actually, from the royal family of Tunisia. You see, I used to be the assistant to the queen, and her son -- that would be the prince -- fell madly in love with me. Jax: Okay, stop -- Kristina: The problem was that he was engaged to be married to the princess of Lithuania, who he dumped so he could hang with me. Well, the queen got very upset about this and ordered us to break up. The prince was, like, no way, forget about it. So the queen threatened to throw me in prison. And then I said, "Okay, wait a second. Why don't we reconsider this?" So the prince ends up marrying Miss Lithuania and queenlier lets me go. Jax: I think we get the picture. Ned: Jax -- Kristina: Then I write a book, a tell-all. Everything. It's actually at the publisher as we speak. And the family has vowed to silence me. So that's why I have to be in hiding. You know, they want me in prison for -- forever, for treason. Ned: Do you expect me to believe one word of that? Helena: Nikolas? Helena: Nikolas? Nikolas: Yes. Helena: Ah. May I enter? Nikolas: I suppose. Helena: Wow. What happened here? Nikolas: Grandmother, I thought I told you not to show up unannounced. Helena: Well, now, don't be cross. I've come bearing gifts. A peace offering. Nikolas: I don't need gifts, all right? What I do need is your compliance. Helena: Isn't it splendid? Nikolas: And it belonged to my father. Helena: Yes, when you were 18 I tried to give you that ring. I hope you're ready now. Nikolas: For what, taking what belongs to me? Grandmother, this can hardly be considered a gift, much less a peace offering, all right? Helena: Is "thank you" out of the question? Nikolas: How long do you expect me to tolerate your little games, your constant tests of my allegiance? It's gone on way too long. It's enough. Helena: Nikolas, I am offering you a splendid opportunity. You can prove your loyalty, become the prince, and lead the Cassadines forever. Nikolas: In return for what? Helena: I've decided how you can deal with Elizabeth Webber. Lucky: So, is Helena threatening you again? Elizabeth: She won't stop about the Ice Princess. Lucky: I'll make sure she does. Elizabeth: How? By provoking her at The Grill? Don't you see that just makes everything worse? I'm the one she caught in her hotel room, Lucky. She knows I'm involved, and she's not going to stop. So why don't we just hide out until this whole thing blows over? Lucky: You're trying to save me. Elizabeth: I didn't realize that was such a bad thing -- Lucky: We're over! I appreciate you trying to fight for me, but I don't need your help. Elizabeth: Stop looking at me like I'm some stranger being nice to another stranger. Lucky: Well, that's what we are -- in a way. Elizabeth: For you. Not for me. Lucky: Why can't you just let this go? Elizabeth: Because I can't. Laura: I just can't believe that he's alive. Stefan: Laura, you have to believe it, and he's coming after you. Laura: No, it's impossible. Stefan: It is possible. Now, I can't help you from in here. You have to protect yourself. You have to get away. Laura: Where? What am I going to be running from, a ghost? Stefan: You take your mother and Lesley Lu, and you leave this morning. You get out of the country. Now, if you need money, I'll give you money. We'll find a safe place. Laura: No. Stefan: All right. Don't tell me or anyone else where you're going. Take my money or not. But you have to disappear. Laura: I can't. I have to wait for Luke. I -- I can't just go. Stefan: Laura, do not underestimate Helena, especially where Stavros is concerned. Laura: She can't awaken the dead. Oh, my God. "Awaken." Stefan: "Awaken"? Laura: You know the disks that Luke stole from Helena? Stefan: Yes. What about "awaken"? Laura: That -- that word was used as a header on the disks. And then we figured out a couple of the passwords. Stefan: To break the computer code -- yes. Laura: Yeah, but that was as far as we could get. Stefan: Bring me the disks. Laura: I don't know where they are. Stefan: You have to remember. Laura: It's -- there is -- there is one person I can ask. Okay. I'll be right back. Stefan: All right. [Doorbell rings] Felicia: Laura. Laura: Hi. Felicia: Hi. Laura: I don't have much time. May I come in? Felicia: Come in, come in. Laura: Thank you. Felicia: If this is about Luke, you know, you're really wasting -- Laura: No, no. I just want to know whether or not you have the disks that Luke stole from Helena. That's all. Felicia: Must be really bad for you to show up here. Laura: It is. Felicia: Did something happen to Luke? Nikolas: We've been over this. You think Elizabeth is a traitor. I disagree. But to get you off of the subject, I say to you that I will dump Elizabeth. You objected to that because you say that I made it too easy. So, have you changed your mind yet again? Helena: Nikolas, do you love Elizabeth? Are you willing to forfeit your inheritance for her? Nikolas: No woman is worth my place in this family. Helena: I hope that's true. Nikolas: Women are to be enjoyed, and I do intend to enjoy Elizabeth soon. Helena: Well, I'm quite aware of the Cassadine male appetite. But you must be careful. Nikolas: So should you. Helena: Gia Campbell has remained loyal to you. Nikolas: Of course she has. She loves me. Helena: Which is a great deal more than I can say for Elizabeth Webber. Nikolas: You know, why bring women into this in the first place? Helena: Because a woman ruined your father's life. Nikolas: So let me learn from his mistakes. Helena: That's what I'm trying to do. Nikolas: You know, I have gone through a great deal of trouble to get Elizabeth. I will not stop now. Helena: Nikolas, Elizabeth still wants to be with Lucky Spencer. Nikolas: That doesn't bother me. Helena: Well, I erased Lucky's love for Elizabeth. Nikolas: Yeah, simply to prove that you could do it. Helena: But even with a clean slate, Elizabeth still pursues Lucky. Nikolas: Are you suggesting that I can't have Elizabeth, that she won't come to me anytime I want? Helena: I only know what I see. Nikolas: Which must be very limiting indeed. You know, Grandmother, I do appreciate your efforts on my behalf, but I don't think I'm going to need them very much longer. Helena: Nikolas, why does Elizabeth follow Lucky? Why are they always together? Nikolas: Perhaps you are losing control of him and you are trying to blame me. Helena: No, because you need a woman you can trust, a woman who shares your vision -- our vision. Nikolas: My vision is the only one that matters in this family. Not yours. Helena: You have no idea what is at stake here. Nikolas: Then tell me. Helena: Your father devoted his life to a woman who loved a Spencer. I won't allow that to happen to you. Nikolas: It won't. Helena: Can't you see that Elizabeth is trying to save Lucky? Nikolas: Trying to save Lucky from what, Grandmother? What else have you programmed Lucky to do? Lucky: Why can't Nikolas take care of you? He's in tight with Helena now. Elizabeth: That's what makes it so dangerous. He believes he can save me. Lucky: But he can't. I understand. Elizabeth: Lucky -- Lucky: You need to get out of here, and I can't go with you. Elizabeth: Why not? Lucky: Just go to your parents. Elizabeth: I'm not going to involve my family. Helena could hurt them, too. Lucky: Then go to Sonny. He can take care of you. Elizabeth: I can't believe you'd just pawn me off on somebody you don't even trust. Lucky: No. No, Elizabeth, I do trust Sonny when it comes to you. He can keep you safe. Elizabeth: So you still must care. Lucky: No, I -- I care about everyone and I want everyone to be safe. Elizabeth: Why don't you just come with me? Lucky: Because I can't. Everyone who matters to me is involved. And somehow -- somehow it all depends on me. Elizabeth: What depends on you? Lucky: Whatever it is, I have to see it through. Elizabeth: Well, what do you think it is? Lucky: I want you to forget about me, forget about all of this. Start over. Elizabeth: Well, you know that's impossible. Lucky: You deserve a real life, Elizabeth. Elizabeth: And what about you? Jax: Look, obviously we can't really tell you what's going on here. Ned: She could at least come up with a better story. Kristina: Well, what about this -- I'm an undercover journalist doing an expose on Eddie Maine. Ned: Does that seem better to you? Kristina: Oh, come on. Can't you see the headlines -- "Former Rock Star Hides Behind Suit." Ned: I am not a suit. Jax: Okay, the idea is to be nice, to make him like you. Ned: Jax, if you're looking for a place to stash your latest girlfriend – [Kristina laughs] Ned: Okay, so maybe she's not your girlfriend. [Kristina laughs] Jax: Would you stop -- already? Kristina: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Ooh. [Kristina laughs] Jax: Okay, excuse me. Could you give us a moment? Could you give us a moment? Kristina: I'm not -- I'm not his girlfriend. Jax: Okay. Kristina: I'm not his girlfriend. Jax: We got the point. Kristina: Oh, my God. Ned: Jax, who the hell is she? Jax: I can't tell you her name. Ned: Then she can't stay with me. Jax: Look, Ned, this matters. Ned: Look, we're -- we're all trying to feel better. Alexis -- she defends murderers, I happen to pull all-nighters, and you are playing secret agent with your latest flame. Whatever it is, I don't care. Just leave me out of it. Jax: What do you need to make this happen? [Ned sighs] Jax: And she isn't a flame. Ned: I don't need anything from you. Jax: She'd be safe here. The grounds are secure. No one even notices the gatehouse. You're dependable. Women feel safe around you. Ned: So? Jax: Helena Cassadine's after me. Ned: Not exactly breaking news. Jax: I don't want her in the crossfire. Ned: You put Alexis there. Jax: Hey, I'm trying to help Alexis. Ned: Does Alexis know her? Jax: Yes. She would consider this a personal favor. Ned: Oh, you see, that's low. Jax: Hey, you brought it up. Ned: You know what? Just go manipulate someone else. I'm busy. Jax: Okay, here's the deal -- you hide my friend, okay? Alexis will be relieved, and you'll have my undying gratitude. [Kristina strums guitar] Ned: Hey! What are you doing? Kristina: Well, it was falling off the chair. Ned: Just leave my guitar alone! Kristina: It's better in here. It's safe. Jax: Ned, Ned, I know this is inconvenient, okay, but if she can just stay here just for a few days, please? [Ned sighs] Ned: Okay, fine. All right. Just for a few days. Jax: Thank you. I knew you'd come around. Ned: Don't push it. Jax: Okay. I'm going to get your things. Kristina: Why? I am not staying here with him. Laura: I know that you've been away for a while. Apparently Luke was acting pretty irrational or drunk or something the night that he disappeared. Felicia: Disappeared? Laura: Right after the art auction? Felicia: He's been missing all this time? Laura: You haven't heard from him? Felicia: No, I haven't heard a word. Laura: Do you have the disks or not? Felicia: So you know about the laboratory and the blueprints? Laura: Yes, I know. Felicia: Oh, my God. Helena got to him, didn't she? That's what -- that's what this is all about. That's why he treated me like that. Laura: I -- I don't know what happened. Felicia: I can't believe I didn't figure this out before now. Otherwise I would have gone after him. Laura: Well, you can help Luke now, Felicia, if you give me the disks. Do you have them or not? Felicia: Yes, I do have the disks. I stole them from his safe before I left for Texas. Laura: Why? Felicia: Laura, he was crazy when I last saw him. I wanted to make sure they didn't get into the hands of the wrong person, so I held on to them until he was sober. Laura: Thank you. Felicia: If there's anything I can do to help you, please include me. Laura: Can I borrow your laptop? Felicia: My laptop? Laura: Please. It's an emergency. Felicia: Sure. Okay. Hang on just a sec. Laura: Thank you. I'll get this right back to you. Lucky: My mom loves stuff like this -- breakable things. We didn't have much of it growing up, and the stuff we did have got left behind. Elizabeth: It must've been difficult. Lucky: When I was a kid -- I can't remember where we were living at -- Wisconsin, I think. I think my name was Tommy. Tommy Franklin. Anyway, I made friends with this kid across the street, and we used to play street hockey every night until our moms called us in. And one night I went out to play and my dad told me no. He said we had to leave right then. I got all upset. I saw my mom crying. I don't think I was supposed to see that, but she was. And my dad looked at me, and he said, "Cowboy, we have to run away to live to fight another day." Elizabeth: Then, Lucky, let's run. Lucky: No. That other day is here, the day that I have to stay and fight. Helena: I have a plan for Lucky. It's part of a grander scheme. Nikolas: I'm entitled to know. Helena: You are so like your father. Nikolas: No, actually, I'm not. Nor am I like my uncle. I am my own person, the heir to the Cassadine estate. Now, I do admit, when I was young, I tried to escape to avoid my responsibilities. But now leading this family is the only thing I think about. And I assure you that when I do take over, the Cassadines will become my destiny. And no one will be able to stand in my way, Grandmother. Not even you. I am the prince and I will take my throne, but do not expect me to stand here and wait or to indulge you any longer. Helena: Well -- you are ready. Now I'm sure. Nikolas: I simply want what's mine. Helena: How badly do you want it, Nikolas? What will you do to get it? Ned: She's turning me down? Jax: Well, you should be used to that. Kristina: I'm very sorry, Mr. Quartermaine. Ned: Ashton. Jax: Yeah, his mother's the Quartermaine. Kristina: Well, he's a stranger to me. Ned: Wait -- the offer's on the table until I get out of the shower. Think about it. Jax: What are you thinking? Kristina: Why are you acting like I'm not even here? "She wants this, she wants that." Jax: I was making a deal. Kristina: Which makes me what, collateral? Jax: I'm trying to help you. Kristina: First you bring me to the United States. Jax: Well, you wanted to come. Kristina: Then you lock me inside a hotel room. Jax: And you knew it would be dangerous. Kristina: Then you hustle me out of the hotel room because you think my brother killed your friend. I'm sorry. My big mouth. Jax: That's okay. I have to hide you from Helena. Kristina: So then you drag me out of there and you take me to some lake house with Angel. And the second I start to get settled with, I must say, a very nice, accommodating bodyguard who didn't mind going boating -- the second I get settled, you yank me out of there and take me to this estate, and I'm supposed to stay with this suit/former rock star who doesn't even like me, and I'm supposed to be grateful to you, Jax? Thank you so much for making me stay with a total stranger who I don't even like! Jax: Okay, take a breath. Kristina: Oh. I don't even know who he is. Jax: You remind me of Alexis. Kristina: Thank you. Jax: Look, Ned's a friend. You'll like him. Kristina: Alexis is still hung up on him. Jax: She told you that? Kristina: No, I saw them at the police station. Look, she's my sister. I can tell these things. Well, I'm right, aren't I? Jax: Alexis almost married him. Kristina: Why didn't she? Jax: Who knows? But I think Ned's still in love with her. Kristina: Will Alexis care if I stay here? Jax: Alexis isn't thinking clearly these days. Kristina: Why, because she believes in Stefan? Jax: Look, here's all that matters -- I want you as far away from the Cassadines as you can get. Stefan: All right. How far did you and Luke get? Laura: Level two. Start with "Pandora." Stefan: "Pandora." Okay. See? Okay. Now "Agripnia." Stefan: "Agripnia." It's "awakening," as with Stavros. Laura: And then "Pegasus." Stefan: "Pegasus." "Zestano." That means "warming." Laura: Right, and that's as far as Luke and I could get. But Luke believes that there's text underneath those headings. Stefan: Well, Helena has obviously used more than one password, encrypted one on top of another. Let's try "live." Let's try "Lazarus." Elizabeth: Lucky, before when you left your house, we found each other. Our lives began. I know you don't remember how it felt, but I do. It didn't matter where we were living -- whether we were on the streets or under the docks, in the boxcar. So long as we were together, we were home. Lucky: Were we happy? Elizabeth: More than you can imagine. I remember telling you one night how I felt and what you had done for me. I told you you were my angel, the shining light that changed my life. Lucky: Did I understand that? Elizabeth: Always. We were going to live in Greenwich Village. We had already picked out a place. I was going to study art. You were going to play your guitar in the coffeehouses. We had everything because we had each other. Lucky: Permanent lock. Elizabeth: What did you say? Lucky: Permanent lock -- you and me. Elizabeth: Forever. Is it coming back? Helena: You have become the image of your father, the true leader that I've always dreamed of. Nikolas: All of my life, Grandmother, I have been at war with myself trying to please everyone around me. Stefan -- he always wanted perfection, duty, academic brilliance. Helena: Such dreary aspirations. Nikolas: And my mother wanted a life of love and a life of small dreams. I tried that, Grandmother. I really did. But why should I quibble over pennies or buy a house that I can't afford? My own mother wanted me to live like a peasant. Helena: Well, at last you finally understand. Nikolas: And then there's my brother -- just as mindless as the rest of them -- what mind he does have left. Helena: Well, Lucky was always beneath you. Nikolas: But yet there's my father. You always tried to get me to appreciate him and I never could until that night you gave me that picture of him. I can't tell you what happened, but something did. Something awakened inside of me. Almost like he was alive in some sort of way. Maybe he is. Helena: I have no doubt. Nikolas: I want to lead this family -- to make my father proud, of course. But that's once I get my inheritance. Helena: There's no backing down this time, no turning away. Nikolas: Oh, I will do whatever it takes. Helena: This is your final opportunity, Nikolas, to prove yourself. Nikolas: I'm ready. Grandmother, give me the test. Jax: Look, I know the situation isn't exactly ideal, but Ashton is our best bet. Kristina: Jax, he hates me. Jax: Well, you can always leave Port Charles. Kristina: I am not going to walk away from my sister. Not after I've come this far. Jax: Then I'll have to think of something else. Kristina: Alexis really trusts him? Jax: Yes. Kristina: He's sort of my almost brother-in-law, kind of, isn't he? Jax: Yeah, you could say that. Ned: So, what'll it be? You have three seconds. Jax: I think you can go back to work. Ned: Fine. Kristina: Thank you very much for your kind offer, Mr. Ashton. I would be delighted to stay here with you. By the way, I'm Kristina. Elizabeth: Lucky, we're a part of each other. Our love is too deep for Helena to erase it. Lucky: You know, I feel something, Elizabeth. Enough to know that I have to let you go. It's the only way that you're going to be safe. Elizabeth: I'm staying with you. Lucky: No, you can't. Don't argue with me about this. This is the way it has to be. I want you to go. Elizabeth: You say you can't remember what it felt like to love me, but even now you're trying to save me. That's part of love, Lucky. And the other part is what I feel for you. Okay, love -- it doesn't end. If you can't remember the feelings, remember the words. Our love doesn't end. Helena: I love you, Nikolas. I have since the day your father placed you in my arms. He was so proud that day. He was a true hero. And look at you now. You've grown into the man that the family wanted you to be. I always knew that the fate of the Cassadine's would rest in your hands. I was certain from the day you were born. You will rule an empire like the world has never seen, and it will be worth every cost. You must seize that empire, Nikolas. You must prove yourself worthy. Nikolas: How? What is the test? Laura: Wait a minute. What's that? It looks kind of like a -- a medical text. Stefan: Step-by-step instructions. Laura: "Cryogenically frozen"? Stefan: This explains how it works -- how Stavros brought back from the dead. Laura: No. Stefan: Helena actually did it, Laura. Stavros is alive. |
