By Stephanie >> Previously on "General Hospital" -- Sonny's voice: Sorel is mine to deal with. Alan's voice: You're at my mercy, and I have none. Melissa's voice: You killed my brother, Leo. Carly's voice: Sorel's going after Michael. I have to stop him. Zander's voice: Somebody needs to kill him. Roy's voice: Somebody will. Monica's voice: There is something to be said about a victim that can't run away. Sorel: I'm not going to die. The devil is my – Reginald: Paper? Edward: Hmm? Oh. Good Lord, where did you come from? A.J.: You've been bellowing for him for the last 10 minutes. Ned: When was the last time Reginald paid any attention to Grandfather? Is something wrong? Reginald: No, no. The staff got a letter from Emily yesterday. She asked us to treat you all with the kindness and the consideration that you clearly don't deserve. Lila: Wasn't that thoughtful of Emily. Monica: Oh, please tell me we're not celebrating something. Edward: Oh, indeed we are. We now have the means to divest Skye of her E.L.Q. shares, her board seat, and her staff position. [Edward laughs] A.J.: You're going to blackmail her out of town? Edward: No, we're going to vote her out of town. And to that end, I have invited a very special surprise guest for breakfast. Jax: Well, I'm willing to bet that special surprise is me. Any takers? Sonny: Carly. Carly: I knew you wouldn't leave. Sonny: What are you doing here? You spent the night? Carly: I had to see you. Where did you go? Sonny: I don't sleep here. Carly: No, well, where do you sleep? The penthouse isn't finished yet. Sonny: Carly, you know better than to be here alone. I only got a couple of watchmen watching the place. What if somebody tried to get me or something? You were supposed to go home. Carly: Well, you won't let me in my home. Sonny: So you go and do something you know isn't safe? Carly: Look, I wasn't thinking -- Sonny: You never do. That's the problem here. Carly: Look, I had to find you. I needed you after what happened last night. Melissa: Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. I tried so hard to forgive. And I failed. And now I am begging you -- I am begging you to forgive me for what I've done. Zander: Morning. Nurse: What are you doing out of bed? Are you all right? Zander: Yeah, I just thought I'd rest a minute. Maybe you can help me up? Nurse: Just don't move, okay? Um -- I'm going to call an orderly, and we're going to get you back in bed. Zander: No, wait, wait, wait. You're going to get in trouble if they know I got out of bed, won't you? Nurse: I shouldn't have let it happen. Zander: Well, come on, I don't want this to land on you. Look, just help me stand up, and everything will be cool. Come on. Nurse: You really shouldn't take the risk. Zander: I'm not going to have a stroke, okay? Come on. Just help me. Nurse: If I'm going to break the rules, I don't want anyone walking in. I don't understand how you got out of bed in the first place. Why didn't your alarm go off? Tony: Morning, Amy. Amy: Hi, Tony. Tony: Excuse me. Tony: What the hell? Tony: Amy! Amy: Yeah? What's up? Tony: This man's dead. Sonny: What happened last night? Carly: I -- I have to call Michael. Sonny: No, no, no. Carly: No -- Sonny: Michael's fine. I speak to his guards three times a day. Leticia told me that she takes him to the -- Carly: No, no, listen to me. No, will you listen to me? One of Sorel's hit men was admitted into E.R. last night. He had a picture of Michael. Sorel could hurt him. He could have sent somebody else down to Martinique to kidnap my little boy. Sonny: Sorel's not going to hurt anybody. He's especially not going to hurt Michael. He's not going to be a problem anymore. Carly: How do you know that? Sonny: What were you doing in the E.R. last night? Carly: What about Michael? Sorel could have sent another hit man down to Martinique. He could be there right now. Sonny: This picture in the E.R. -- was it recent? Carly: No, it was older. Sonny: Well, that means they don't know where Michael is. They're carrying the picture because just in case they see him, but they don't know where to look. Michael is safe. How many times do I got to tell you? I will -- will always take care of that kid. Carly: Thank you. Sonny: Why were you in E.R.? Carly: Because you wouldn't tell me anything about Sorel. I thought -- Sonny: You were supposed to go to the hotel room, and you go to the hospital, which was the worst place you could be. Who saw you? Carly: A lot of people. Mike -- he burned his hand. Sonny: This picture of Michael with the hit man -- who told you about it? Carly: A nurse. Sonny: Which nurse? Carly: Look, it's not just about Michael. The hit man had a picture of me, of Zander and Emily. Sonny: Why didn't you tell me? Carly: Because you said you didn't care! Sonny: No, I said I couldn't discuss it. Do you think I do that to punish you, or do you think I enjoy seeing you afraid? There are things you shouldn't know. It's for your own safety. When I tell you to go away, there's a reason. Carly: How am I supposed to know that? Well, what is the difference between you protecting me and you shoving me out of your life? Sonny: There is no difference. You can't do this. You've proven that over and over again. Carly: How can you say that after what I did for you last night? Sonny: What did -- what did you do, Carly? Tony: Um -- so, how long has Mr. Sorel been lying here like this? Nurse: There were no changes in his room, and we've been watching it from the desk. Tony: And you didn't notice that he was dead? I mean, did it occur to you to look at your -- Alan: I got your page. What's going on? Tony: Joseph Sorel is dead. Alan: Okay. Well, call the morgue and get some orderlies to get him out of here. Tony: You don't just call the morgue and shuttle him off like he died of natural causes. There is something seriously wrong here. Melissa: I thought I knew the difference between right and wrong. I thought I knew that revenge was pointless and that angrily hurts the person who felt it, not the person that it was aimed at. I knew that there was no such thing as doing a bad thing for a good reason. You know these things. They're easy to know. Learn 'em from your mother or from your teacher. You grow up -- I grew up knowing the lines that I would never cross. Melissa: I'm afraid I didn't even know myself at all. Roy: I called. You weren't home. You've been here all night? Melissa: I didn't know what to do. Roy: Hey, hey, hey. It's okay, it's okay. It's okay. I'm right here. Everything's going to be fine, okay? It's going to be fine. Amy: It is right there in your own handwriting. You did not want Mr. Sorel disturbed until this morning. Tony: But you didn't glance in the room past the comatose guard and see that somebody was dead in here? Alan: All right, that's enough, Tony. Look, these nurses have been on duty since what time? Amy: 6:00 a.m. Alan: And they followed all of your instructions indicated on the patient's chart. You can't blame this on them. Tony: The man is dead. Alan: The man is a convicted cop killer. He died in his sleep instead of by lethal injection. We are not talking about the assassination of President Lincoln. Tony: Sorel's heart monitor was attached to a pulse simulator. His respirator isn't even functioning. Nurse: Dr. Jones, somebody pulled the plug. Lila: How lovely to see you again, Mr. Jacks. Jax: You're looking as lovely as ever, Mrs. Quartermaine. Lila: Thank you. I take it your search was unsuccessful? Jax: Yes, I'm afraid so. Lila: Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Now, if you'll excuse me, Reginald and I are on our way to the rose garden. Edward: No, no, no, no. Lila, no. It's much too hot out there. Why don't you stay and have a little more breakfast if you want to because we have something to discuss with Mr. Jacks, huh? Lila: You know, Edward, it exhausts me to see you work so hard. Edward: Oh. Lila: Good-bye, Mr. Jacks. Jax: Mrs. Quartermaine. Lila: Lila, please. Jax: Lila. Edward: That's Mrs. Quartermaine to you. Jax: Make up your mind, Edward. Are you going to butter me up or run me off for flirting with your wife? Edward: I merely asked you over to welcome you back. Ned: He wants your vote. Jax: Obviously. Edward: Can't a man offer a simple invitation to a -- to a much-missed -- um -- Jax: Adversary? Edward: Now, come on. Don't exaggerate. You know that we both share a certain sense of -- A.J.: Larceny? Jax: We also share ownership of E.L.Q. and it seems you've given away stock in the company to an unsuitable relative. Worse than Tracy, I think you said. Edward: Well, I might have been overreacting. I -- Monica: No, you weren't, Edward. Edward: What? Monica: The woman's name is Skye -- Skye: Skye Chandler Quartermaine. We weren't formally introduced at the auction, but I must say your entrance was unforgettable. Jax: Well, I like to make a strong first impression. Obviously, you do, too. Ned: "Strong" doesn't quite describe her. Try "poisonous." Skye: Cousin Ned thinks that I'm responsible for all the troubles in the world. What's your opinion? Do I look like someone you'd want to get rid of or someone that you'd like to keep around? Sonny: You need to tell me what you've done. It's the only way I can make this disappear. Carly: Look, I meant when Sorel was holding me hostage, I did everything to keep you out of danger. Sonny: You're lying. Come on. Carly: Look, I lie. That's right -- I'm lying. That's what my husband thinks -- I lie about everything. Yes, if I say it's day, it must be night. And if I tell you that I love you, then it must -- Sonny: Oh, so you're plotting to send me back to jail? Is that what you're trying to do here? Carly: Yeah. Sonny: Again? Carly: Yeah, that's what I'm doing. That's what I'm doing, Sonny. Sonny: Right, right. Carly: I'm plotting to send -- you know what? Sonny: What? Carly: That's what I do -- I hated you so much, that -- that I carried your baby and I married you twice and I sat by your bedside and begged for you to live. Yeah, I did that all, and it was just part of the greatest plan ever. It was a trick. It was a trick to make you despise me, to talk you into walking away and abandoning me. Sonny: I provided for you and Michael. Carly: No, you left! You left, and you are still leaving! You know what? Why don't you just go because I don't need you. Sonny: I need you to tell me what happened so I can fix it. Carly: Why? Why? So you can think that you're taking care of me? So you can think you're being honorable? No, you walked out. You left your wife. You left Michael. Why don't you just call your guard in Martinique? Go ahead, do that. Tell him to come home because I can take care of Michael. I can protect him because you never will! Sonny: Don't you ever say that. Carly: I am the one that has to keep A.J. away from Michael, and I will do that. I will protect him even if it means I have to team up with his creepy new sister. Sonny: Skye? Carly: Skye hates him as much as I do. We are going to take care of him once and for all. Yeah, and I will keep Michael safe, no thanks to you. Sonny: Skye is a liar. Do you know that? Carly: And you know what? So am I, according to you. Maybe you're wrong about both of us. Sonny: You lie when you're scared or afraid or when you think of some stupid plan to get what you want when it can't possibly happen. You lie like a kid because you're afraid to be punished. You are afraid to be punished. Do you hear what I'm saying? And you want people to like you. Skye is a professional. She's going to use you. Stay away from her. Carly: I don't take orders from you. Sonny: You know what? This is -- this is crazy. You know that? This is crazy. You're so afraid for Michael that you can't think straight! You're no match for this woman. Carly: Oh, I am a match for anyone. Sorel found out. So will you. Roy: He's gone, Melissa. He's finally out of our lives. Melissa: What do you mean? Roy: Well, I was just in I.C.U. Melissa: Oh, my God, Roy. I -- Roy: No, no, no. He did not deserve to keep breathing. We're talking about -- he killed people, Melissa, without conscience or regret. What he deserves is to be buried and forgotten. Melissa: He just -- he brought out a lot of things in me that I didn't even know were there. Roy: Listen, when I first saw you again, you told me Leo wanted you to let this go. You can do that now. He's not going to hurt you or anyone else ever again. He can't hurt you. Tony: So the alarm should have gone off the instant that he stopped breathing. Alan: Yeah, unless the alarm malfunctioned. Tony: Did either of you turn it off? Nurse: Amy told you we haven't been in the room. Tony: But you've done it before, though, right? Amy: Of course we have. We disarmed the alarm to suction his tubes. But the alarm resets itself after two minutes. Alan: The alarm's been rigged. Tony: The alarm was disabled with a tongue depressor. Alan: Amy, Quinn, please wait outside. Tony, you got to stop badgering the nurses. It's clear they had nothing to do with this. Tony: Well, somebody did. I mean, last night, this patient was in stable condition. This morning, he's dead. His E.K.G. leads were hooked up to a pulse simulator. His respirator is unplugged. The alarm is disabled. I mean, we have to call the police. Sorel was murdered. [Phone rings] Angel: Hello? Dr. Jones. Has there been any change in my father's condition? Do you -- do you know when? Yeah, I understand. Thank you. Taggert: Dr. Jones. Dispatch said you wanted to report a death in I.C.U.? Tony: Yes. My patient Joseph Sorel is dead. Taggert: Joseph Sorel's already been tried and sentenced. You need to speak to the presiding judge or the warden at Bentonville about what to do with him. At least the state doesn't have to pay for his execution. Alan: I tend to agree. But Dr. Jones thinks that Sorel died under suspicious circumstances. Quinn: I want to see you take all of them. Zander: All right. What, you're mad at me? Quinn: It's been a tough morning. Zander: Yeah, so I heard. What's happening across the hall? I heard some yelling. Quinn: One of the doctors just lost his temper. It happens all the time. Zander: Which doctor? They trying to blame some of this on you? Quinn: If they knew what happened this morning. How long were you out of bed? Zander: Look, it is hard lying here, okay? I get bored, you know? I got three letters from my girlfriend in that drawer that I have read more times than -- look, they're all worn out. I just -- besides, I'm not as weak as everyone thinks I am. Sometimes I want to get up, okay? So I shut off the alarm. Quinn: And how did you know you could disable the alarm with a tongue depressor? Did someone teach you? Zander: I figured it out. It's really not that hard. Tony: I would estimate that he's been dead about an hour. Taggert: With the respirator unplugged, the alarm disabled, and the -- Tony: E.K.G. Taggert: The E.K.G. hooked up to what? Tony: It's a pulse simulator. It's primarily used in cardiac training. Taggert: Which would make the nurses at the desk think everything was normal. Alan: That's correct. Taggert: You -- you seem pretty cool about all this, Doc. Doesn't bother you a patient was offed in your hospital last night? Alan: We reported the incident. What else are we supposed to do? Taggert: Sorel's guard was sleeping when you got here this morning? Tony: That's correct. Taggert: You want to explain to me how you fell asleep on duty last night? Guard: I can't, Sir. Taggert: You what? Guard: I can't. I felt fine. Next thing I knew, it was morning and Dr. Jones was chewing out the nurses. Taggert: Did you eat or drink anything? Guard: A cup of coffee. Taggert: This coffee? Guard: Yes, sir. Taggert: Don't do it. Don't let anybody near it. I want forensics to run a check on it. Hey, whoa, whoa. This room here is a crime scene. Everything in it is evidence. Will you take care of this, please? Dr. Quartermaine, I'm going to need a list of everybody with access to Mr. Sorel's room for the last four -- make that eight hours. Melissa: Roy, we can't go camping. Roy: Why not? And don't say it's because we don't know how because we already proved that you can start a fire with a dashboard lighter. And I'll spring for one of those high-tech tents where you just pull a cord and the whole thing pops right up into place. Melissa: I think you're making that up. Roy: No. Don't you ever watch the nature channels? Mountain climbers -- they use them all the time. They're freezing up there, and, you know, they don't have enough oxygen. They need a tent they don't have to think about. So do we. Melissa: Yeah. And where would we go with this worry-free tent? Roy: Anywhere you want, Melissa. Just -- west, great plains. Hell, we don't even need the tent. We could just stretch out on our backs and look up at the stars. Melissa: Oh, yeah. We could go to -- to Montana. We could go to big sky country, right? Roy: There you go. There you go. Melissa: I wish we could do that. Roy: Well, don't wish. Let me take you to Montana. We won't have anything more important to think about than watching the sun rise. It could be the beginning of a new chapter in both our lives. Skye: What this family needs is time together to -- to heal. Jax: Yes, I'm very sorry to hear about Emily. Monica: Thank you. Now you see why this woman has to go. Ned: The sooner, the better. Skye: All I'm asking for is a second chance. Jax: Let's cut to the chase. I'll buy you out, Ms. Chandler Quartermaine. That way you can concentrate on your devastating family problems and leave E.L.Q. to me. Edward: Over my dead body. Ned: You had to know Jax would try to work this to his advantage. [Doorbell rings] Edward: Those stocks will return to their rightful owner, and that's me. Skye: What kind of deal were you considering, Mr. Jacks? Edward: Listen, you Australian snake oil salesman, you are not going to steal any more of my company than you already have. Jax: Oh. I only steal as a last resort. I'm sure in this case Skye and I can come up with an amicable agreement. Skye: Count on it. Edward: Don't count on it. Monica: Edward, go ahead. Let Jax do it. By the time he's done, he'll not only have her stock, he'll have everything else she owns and she'll be a lot lighter, so it will be easier to toss her out in the gutter where she belongs. Skye: Sounds like I should be careful. Jax: Well, where's the fun in that? Reginald: Excuse me. There's someone here to see Ms. Chandler. Edward: No, I'm sorry, we're busy. Just tell them to come back. Reginald: Can't Edward: What? Wait. Oh. It's you. Sonny: Yeah, I'll keep this brief, all right? I can see you have a guest. Sonny: Oh, yeah, Alexis mentioned you were back. Jax: I hear you're still in business -- of all kinds. Sonny: Including E.L.Q. Edward: Whatever you want, the answer is no. Sonny: Skye? We need to talk about something. Skye: And what if I refuse? Sonny: You might regret it. Skye: He's threatening me. Jax: Well, in that case, you're perfectly safe. See, Sonny only destroys women that make the mistake of loving him. Sonny: Let's go. Come on. Walk faster, will you? Ned: Junior, you might want to get outside and stop Skye before whatever scheme the two of you are cooking up. Better hurry -- clock's ticking. Ned: Well, Jax, aren't you glad you stopped by? Think of all the new weaknesses that you've discovered. Jax: Yes, I'm all for a game of corporate roulette. But I won't be played against Sonny Corinthos. You should know better by now, Edward. Monica: Jax, nobody here is siding with Sonny. Jax: Edward needs his granddaughter. And you need me, too. I have no intention of cooperating with Sonny Corinthos on any level. Jax: Then consider the bottom line. Corinthos is a black hole. Forget Quartermaine. Concentrate on getting Sonny out of E.L.Q. Thanks for the champagne. It's an excellent year. Monica: Well, that went well. Can I ask you what you're planning for lunch? Sonny: Stay away from Carly and her son. Skye: I'm only helping her protect her little boy from A.J. A.J.: What, you're trying to get back at me by using my son? Skye: Michael deserves better than you or Sonny. Sonny: You know what? Carly may buy this act, but I'm not. You're a drunk, and you're dangerous, and you're not going anywhere near your son. A.J.: Come on, Sonny -- Sonny: Whoa, whoa, whoa -- hey, hey! You keep pushing this, I'm going to push you back! You understand what I'm saying? And I'll tell you something right now. You do not use Carly or her son. Do you understand what I saying? Otherwise, you're going to have to deal with the consequences. Skye: Another threat? Sonny: Jax is wrong about most things. And he's wrong about who I wreck and why. Skye: That man is dangerous. A.J.: I don't expect you to go up against him. I'll find another way to get my son away from Carly. Tony: I traced the leads to a pulse simulator. There. Taggert: Who would know how to disable the alarm? Quinn: Zander. Taggert: What does Zander have to do with this? Quinn: Nothing. I just -- Tony: What? Quinn: I -- there's been so much going on, I forgot to give Zander Smith his medication. Excuse me. Taggert: Well, now, if Zander's getting his medication, must mean he's awake. I'd like to speak to Zander. Quinn: They're only acetaminophen. Just take them. Zander: But I just took my medicine – Quinn: Don't argue. Just take them. Taggert: Mr. Smith. I understand the nurse was late in giving you your medication. Zander: Hey, Taggy. What's it to you? Taggert: I need to nail down your whereabouts for the last several hours. Zander: Wow. I'm sorry. I was -- I was scuba diving in Puerto Rico. Taggert: Mr. Smith, I'm conducting a criminal investigation here. I'd advise you to give me your full cooperation, or I'll be forced to charge you with obstruction of justice. Zander: All right, you don't want to have fun. I was lying here in bed hooked up to a bunch of machines, trying to remember what it feels like not to hurt when I breathe. Taggert: Anyone see you? Zander: Nurses. Why are you here? Taggert: Joseph Sorel was murdered last night. I can see you're devastated. Zander: That's the last question I answer without my lawyer. Carly: I'm sorry. I didn't realize anyone was in here. Roy: It's not a problem. Melissa: Carly, are you all right? Carly: The police are in Sorel's room. Roy: That's standard procedure. There's a possibility Sorel was murdered. Melissa: Why would they think that he was murdered? Carly: Who cares how Sorel died? Huh? If somebody killed him, then they deserve a medal. He was a sick pig who dealt drugs and threatened little children and women. Sorel sent a hit man after my little boy. He tried to hurt him. He deserves to burn in hell. God, and I hope he does. I hope every sick, despicable thing that he did here happens to him there over and over again. I hope he -- Angel: Stop it! Just stop. Carly: What's wrong with you? Zander: Do you want to book me now, take me down to lockup? If you get lucky, I'll bleed to death on the way. Alan: I prescribed the sedative, and I saw him take it. The dose was sufficient to keep him asleep for hours. Does that answer your question? Taggert: For the moment. You might want to contact your lawyer, just in case. Dr. Jones, I want to talk to you and Nurse Altman. Tony: Okay. Zander: Thank you. Alan: Be quiet. I'm taking your pulse. Zander: I didn't take those pills. Why did you cover for me? Alan: Nobody died here last night. A monster was exterminated. My daughter is safe, and that's all I care about. Edward: All right. Well, let me know if there are any further developments. All right. Ned: What happened? Is it Emily? A.J.: Is she all right? Edward: Yes. Emily is safe for the first time in months. That was the board liaison from the hospital. Joseph Sorel was murdered last night. Ned: Thank you, Sonny. Edward: You think? Ned: Who else? Edward: You think we can get him convicted for it? It'd be a way to force him out of E.L.Q. Ned: Grandfather, first of all, if Sonny did do it, he hired one of his goons -- Monica: Did you notice anything odd at the hospital last night? A.J.: Well, what makes you think I was there? You weren't even on duty. Were you? Angel: Show some respect, will you? A man just died. Carly: A murderer who threatened little children. Roy: Okay, hold -- you know, she's not trying to make anybody feel bad. She's just under a lot of stress. Angel: Aren't we all. Melissa: Okay. Um -- so, how can they be sure that Sorel was murdered? I mean -- Roy: I didn't say that -- Carly: No, no, wait, wait. You just wait a minute. Why did you apologize for me? Why does Angel care what the hell I have to say about Sorel? Roy: It was the first thing that came into my mind, Carly. I just think we need to take five minutes to calm down and sort this out. Carly: You know, what is she doing here anyway? She lives out in the woods. Oh, my God. She said she was visiting someone. Roy: Carly -- Carly! Oh, gee. Melissa: Roy? What the hell is going on here? Tony: The police have promised a full investigation. Angel: I'm sorry. This is a terrible shock for you. Taggert: Here to inspect your husband's dirty work? Carly: I don't know what you are talking about. I am here to visit a friend. She is right in there. Taggert: You're friends with Sorel's daughter? Carly: Daughter? Taggert: Yeah. Carly: Are you sure? Taggert: Checked her ID tag myself. Mrs. Corinthos? What's going on here, Mrs. Corinthos? Carly: You. You lying piece of trash. What kind of a sick game are you playing? Sonny: Okay. Jax: So did you, candy boy. >> On the next "General Hospital" --- Lucky: Where's Elizabeth? Sonny: Did you find her? Jax: You want to know about Brenda. Taggert: A lot of people wanted Joseph Sorel dead. The question is, who wanted it bad enough to make it happen? |
