Episode #14058 ~ EJ receives a surprising phone call. Gabi and Jake unwittingly end up with key information. Chloe helps Nicole piece together Sami and Lucas's affair. Kristen reaches out to Brady.

Ej: I'm right here. I'm right here. It's okay, it's okay. Everything's okay.

Sami: I just had a bad dream. I had a dream that you were in pain, and I had the medicine, and I couldn't get to you someho and then I woke up, and you weren't here.

Ej: I'm right here. I'm right here.

Sami: Yeah, yeah, you're here. It was just a bad dream.

Ej: No, no, no, it wasn'T. Samantha, I'm so, so sorry.

Lucas: Thank you--oh, that's good, thank you.

Roman: Hey, have a seat.

Kate: That coffee smells so good.

Roman: Yeah.

Kate: Good morning, honey.

Lucas: Morning.

Roman: How'd you sleep?

Kate: Better than I have in a long time. Thank you so much for letting me have my old room back.

Roman: Well, it is not exactly the dimera mansion, but you're always welcome.

Kate: Well, thank you. I have to say, it was great getting out of that nest of vipers, and being here has the advantages that I get to be under the same roof as my son again, and that's a bright spot.

Lucas: Yeah. Speak for yourself.

Jake: Hey, morning, rafe. Mind if I grab myself some coffee?

Rafe: What the hell are you doing here?

Jake: Gabi didn't tell you? We moved in last night.

Rafe: You did what?

Nicole: Oh, you're missing rafe, aren't you, buddy? Yeah, so am I.

Chloe: There's a song about talking to trees, but a stuffed animal?

Nicole: Hey, what are you doing here?

Chloe: I work here.

Nicole: Oh, but-- but you're injured.

Chloe: Yeah, yeah, I'm perfectly capable of working with my arm in a sling. Besides, look at it this way, you have a human being to talk to and not a bear. So you're missing rafe, huh?

[Soft music]

[Phone rings]

Brady: Hello?

Kristen: Hey, brady, it's me, kristen.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Brady: Where are you?

Kristen: You know I can't tell you. I shouldn't even have called, but I just had to hear your voice. I can't stop thinking about rachel and you. I miss the two of you so much. Brady? Are you there still?

Brady: Yeah, I'm here.

Kristen: Can you tell me how rachel's doing? Can you tell me everything about what's going on?

Brady: She's fine.

Kristen: Brady, you can talk to me.

Brady: I don't have anything to say to you, kristen.

Kristen: All right. I just want you to know that I feel bad about everything.

Brady: Oh, wait, no, actually there is one piece of news that you should know. Shawn gave me a bunch of your personal effects.

Kristen: Oh.

Brady: There was a really nice picture of chloe amongst all of your things. It had a giant x scratched across her face. You think I should get that framed?

Kristen: I'm sorry you saw that, I just--you know I was out of my mind.

Brady: No, no, I'm glad. I'm glad I saw it, actually, because it reminded me of what you were capable of. And also reminded me and slammed home the fact that I can never be with you ever again.

[Tense music]

Nicole: What I say to the bear is privileged communication. But seriously, how is your arm?

Chloe: It's fine, and don't try to change the subject. I flat out asked you the other day how you feel about rafe, and you dodged the question, and now you're talking to a bear.

Nicole: Well, at least, when I tell him something, he doesn't grill me.

Chloe: I'm not grilling you, I promise. I just want you to know that I'm here if you want to talk.

Nicole: Okay, actually, I do want to talk.

Chloe: Good.

Nicole: Not about rafe. But I have a problem that is right in your wheelhouse. How do I go about proving that sami slept with lucas?

Kate: Okay, where did that come from?

Lucas: It came from a place still being royally pissed off because you pretended to be blind. Allie, philip, and I, we were worried sick about you.

Kate: Lucas, it's not like I could tell anyone.

Lucas: Yes, you could have, and you know what else you could have done? Not pretended to be blind. That would've been nice.

Roman: He has a point.

Lucas: Thank you.

Kate: Okay, did the two of you realize that I woke up from a coma to hear jake and gabi planning their lives together? Because seriously, that needed to be addressed, and in that split second, I made a decision.

Lucas: In that split second, you made a decision that gutted every single person that ever cared about you.

Kate: Look, I am sorry, honey, I am. I didn't mean to hurt you, but i just had to stick to the plan.

Lucas: You could have told me there was a plan.

Kate: You're the last person I could have told.

Lucas: Right, I know, I know, 'cause you don't trust me.

Kate: I don't trust you with a secret, you're right. You have absolutely no poker face at all. Lucas, everything you're thinking, everything you know is all there. It's written all over your face.

Lucas: No, way that's absolutely ridiculous.

Roman: No, that's actually right.

Jake: Anyway, it was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.

Rafe: Apparently so.

Jake: Look, man, I'm sorry if we're--

Gabi: Morning.

Jake: Hey, I thought you told rafe we were moving in.

Gabi: Oh, I'm sorry. We got in so late last night. I should have texted you.

Rafe: Yeah, so what happened? You two live in a mansion, and then you decide to move in here? I mean, did you get tired of the wall-to-wall luxury or was it the pesky servants?

Gabi: Jake doesn't want to live in the same house as his brothers.

Jake: Especially ej.

Sami: Ej, it's okay. It really was just a bad dream.

Ej: You know where I was just now?

Sami: No.

Ej: I went down to get you a breakfast tray.

Sami: That was really nice of you.

Ej: Yeah, yeah. I really put myself out, didn't I? I hope you're very grateful that I went down to the kitchen and back for you, two flights of stairs.

Sami: Very sweet.

Ej: And I come in here thinking, "oh, strawberry jam, she'll like that, and maybe that will distract from the fact that you put her through hell."

Sami: No.

Ej: Yes, yes. You spent years taking care of me 24/7, and I spent years treating you horribly. You still dream about it.

Sami: Sometimes.

Ej: But when you faced murder charges, when you faced my insane sister, I was nowhere to be seen, but then I do turn up out of the blue and say, "oh, so sorry about being a total jerk. We're going back to italy to start over." But then an hour later, I announce, no, we're moving back in with my family. I'm going to work for my family, and now everything is officially fine, right?

Sami: Do you not know that that is what I want more than anything? I want more than anything in the whole world for you to have your life back, for you to be you again.

Ej: But we're not us again. And that's on me.

Sami: Ej, when I said that i wasn't ready for us to make love, it was because...

Ej: Because I can't snap my fingers and erase the last four years. Samantha, when I showed up at your mother's front door unannounced, you had every right to slam it into my face.

Sami: No.

Ej: Instead, you stood beside me, like you have ever since you found me. So... just being with you is enough for me. It took me a long time to heal, and you waited. I'll wait for you no matter how long it takes. I mean that. As little as I do show it, I do love you.

Sami: Oh, ej. To be a thriver

Kristen: Brady, I was jealous, I was out of my mind. I never would've hurt chloe.

Brady: Not hurt her? You drugged her, tied her up, and put her in the trunk of a car.

Kristen: But I tried to help. I told philip where the car was.

Brady: Yeah, because you could no longer broker a deal, kristen. You understand that she could have suffocated in there while you were using her life as a bargaining chip because that's what sociopaths do. They don't care about other people's lives. You know what--why am I talking to you? What point is there in me talking to you?

Kristen: Okay, you said she could have suffocated. That means she didn'T.

Brady: Yeah, she got shot at point-blank range, kristen.

Kristen: Is she dead?

Chloe: What are you talking about?

Nicole: I think sami and lucas slept together before ej came back.

Chloe: Really?

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Chloe: Well, what's it to you? And don't tell me it's an affront to your moral code.

Nicole: Well, I will spare you the details, but I think I'm at the point again where i may have to prod sami back into her cage.

Chloe: Are you sure we can't go into details? It sounds like it could be really interesting.

Nicole: No, no, no.

Chloe: Okay, so let me get this, sami has something on you, so you're trying to prove that she slept with lucas to, what, level the playing field?

Nicole: Something like that, but I can't just make accusations. I need proof that they had an affair.

Chloe: Okay, well, I don't know if it was an affair, but I definitely know that sami and lucas were in cahoots about something.

Nicole: About what?

Chloe: Sami is the one who put lucas up to telling me that he was dying.

Lucas: Thanks for weighing in, roman, appreciate it.

Roman: Lucas, she's right. Look, buddy, you have many admirable qualities. Inscrutable, you are not. He heard sami tell me the other day that she and ej were gonna stay in salem, and I swear his face looked like the wrath of god.

Lucas: I wouldn't go that far, okay?

Kate: Wait, so you're upset that sami's staying? I thought the two of you were getting along.

Roman: I don't think his issue was with sami.

Lucas: That's right. It's not. My issue is with ej because he's an arrogant, conceited, son of a you-know-what.

Kate: Well, yes, of course, all of that's true, but still, I'm glad he's staying.

Lucas: You're what? I'm sorry, I didn't get that.

Kate: Well, you know, his first act as new ceo of dimera enterprises was to hire me.

Roman: Wait a minute, whoa, time out here. You're gonna work for ej?

Kate: Yep, that's right.

Lucas: No, no way, the hell you are.

Kate: [Sighs]

Gabi: Jake was doing great. There's no business reason to get rid of him. It's just another one of ej's power grabs.

Jake: Yeah, so you can see why I don't want to live in the same house as him.

Rafe: Yeah, I can see not wanting to live on the same planet as him. But I thought it was your house, so why don't you just kick him out? I mean, I'd be more than happy to help.

Gabi: Rafael, we don't want want to live there anymore.

Rafe: By we you mean jake.

Gabi: The house just has too many unpleasant memories.

Rafe: But it always has, and now suddenly, he doesn't want to live there, so you move out of your own house?

Gabi: Rafe, we had to get out of there, and don't worry, we'll get out of here as soon as we find the next place.

[Phone rings] I have to take this. Hi, philip? Damn, no, I left without checking the mail. No, no problem, I can get it. It's still my house.

Jake: What's up?

Gabi: I just have to pass by the mansion. I left some mail there for a meeting--titan.

Jake: You want me to do it? You might run into ej.

Gabi: I hope I do because I want to remind him that even though he's living there, I am still his landlady. Thank you, rafe, for letting us stay here.

Rafe: Yeah.

Jake: Yeah, man, thank you. We really appreciate it.

Rafe: Sure.

Jake: Do you have a problem with us staying here?

Rafe: With gabi, no, I don't have a problem. With you, I do.

Ej: You don't have to do this.

Sami: I want to, ej. I love you so much.

It's my 5:52 woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Jake: Well, if you got a problem with me, I might as well hear what it is.

Rafe: Sure. I don't like, and that's an understatement, how you treated kate. You used her, so how do I know that you're not using my sister?

Kate: Well, you're a real barrel of laughs this morning.

Lucas: Well, I'm sorry if I'm acting badly because you pretended to be blind, and now you're gonna work for the worst person in the world.

Kate: Okay, lucas, who I work for and where I work is really none of your concern.

Lucas: Even if his sister hired somebody to kill me? And so sami had to pay off xander because they were gonna murder us? And ej wired the money, what a hero.

Kate: Okay, I see.

Lucas: Mm-hmm, and he took it back in an hour.

Roman: Damn, I hadn't heard that.

Lucas: Well, you're hearing it now, right? And you want to work for that guy, great.

Kate: Obviously, since you and sami weren't murdered, ej actually had the situation under control.

Lucas: I don't know about all that, I really don'T. And why are you working for him anyway? You don't need a job. You don't need the money. And if you need something to do, you should take up knitting or something.

Kate: Okay, I don't need the money, and I don't need to work, but I'm going back to that job to pay back jake and gabi for what they did to me.

Lucas: Right, right, of course it's all about what you want, isn't it? Hell with everybody else. Thanks for the breakfast. I'm not hungry.

Kate: I love you.

[Scoffs]

Nicole: Wait a minute, lucas told you he had a terminal brain tumor when he didn't, and then sami, as stan, pretended to be the doctor who confirmed the diagnosis.

Chloe: That's right.

Nicole: An exciting plot. What, were they bored?

Chloe: No, the reason behind all of it was to get me out of salem.

Nicole: Why would they need you to get out of salem if lucas had a brain tumor? Are you brain tumor-phobic?

Chloe: Ha, no, it's better than that. Lucas said that he wanted to see antarctica before he died and asked me to go with him.

Nicole: Well, I heard it's beautiful this time of year. What, why would they want you gone?

Chloe: I think it was mainly a sami thing, and it just kind of felt like lucas was being dragged along.

Nicole: Oh, so why would sami want you gone?

Chloe: I don't know. That's what I keep thinking about. I mean, I don't have a problem with sami, and vice versa, but I do know that kristen wanted me gone.

Nicole: To keep you away from brady.

Chloe: Yeah, but the whole sami thing doesn't make any sense.

Nicole: But you two haven't gotten along in ages. I remember you fighting over custody of allie when she was a kid.

Lucas: Yeah, you're right. We do fight, yeah.

Nicole: So why would sami try to rope you into helping her spying on me?

Lucas: Well, because you know, last couple months, things have changed between us.

Nicole: Oh. Why?

Lucas: Something happened.

Sami: Do you really mean that?

Lucas: Yeah, I do.

Nicole: Or maybe it does.

Ej: I have a very strong feeling that you and I are back.

Sami: We are.

Ej: I think that we're going to be happier and stronger than we ever were before.

Sami: I hope so.

[Tense music]

Roman: [Clears throat] Okay, so you're not done paying jake back.

Kate: No, not by a long shot. But I am a fair woman, and you have earned a big, fat "I told you so" now.

Roman: Yeah, I did tell you so in the course of an embarrassing attempt to win you back.

Kate: No, that wasn't embarrassing, that wasn't embarrassing at all. And actually, I mean, you were totally right about me and jake. That was never going to work out.

Roman: You know what, believe me, I take no joy in that. I'm just sorry that he hurt you. I'm just worried that you can't get over it.

Kate: Of course I can.

Roman: Kate, you just told me you're taking this job to pay him back--to keep paying him back. That doesn't indicate that you're moving on.

Kate: It's because that's who I am. I fight back.

Roman: No, you start a war, so you don't have time to cry. Look, okay, you know what? I'm sorry. That was an uncalled for opinion, clear violation of the bartender's code.

Kate: Okay, well, you weren't talking to me as a bartender. You were talking to me as a friend.

Jake: Look, man, you don't need to tell me I was lousy to kate; I know I was, and i should have been upfront with her as soon as I realized that--

Rafe: That you were gonna pick up where you left off with gabi?

Jake: You don't have to believe me, but kate and I, we were happy. We were always straight with one another. But gabi did come back into town, and... I realized that what we shared together, it was not gonna go away ever. And it may sound like a string of excuses, but I did not go to gabi until I thought kate broke up with me.

Rafe: Kristen?

Jake: Right, but even then, I was gonna tell her, but then she went blind--or pretended that she went blind, pretended that she had amnesia.

Rafe: Okay, listen, I'm not saying that kate's perfect. I'm just saying that she's my friend.

Jake: And I get that, dude. I mean, haven't you ever been with somebody, somebody you really actually care about, but you can't stop thinking about somebody else?

[Tense music]

Nicole: I think kristen has something on sami, so she blackmailed her to get you out of the picture.

Chloe: You think kristen knew?

Nicole: That sami and lucas were sleeping together? Yeah, I mean, I figured it out, and kristen was living at the same house as sami.

Chloe: Yeah, but wouldn't sami have the sense to take that off of campus? Oh, wait, sorry, I used sami and sense in the same sentence, it's probably these painkillers I'm taking.

Nicole: Bottom line is, kristen, or susan, or whoever, knew that sami and lucas called congress back to session, and she also knew that sami would do anything to keep her from telling ej.

Brady: No, chloe is not dead, kristen. Are you disappointed?

Kristen: No, of course I'm not.

Brady: After everything you put her through, I don't think there's any more "of course I'm not" about it.

Kristen: I'm not the one who shot her! You can't blame me for that. What happened?

Brady: Jan spears took kate's car, and when she found chloe, she used her as a human shield. She shot her, kris. She shot her at point-blank range. You understand? Chloe could have died. You understand that?

Kristen: Oh, brady. I can hear it in your voice. You're in love with her. Is she there? Is she there with you right now?

Brady: No.

Kristen: Why not? What are you waiting for, brady? You hate me. You blame me for everything.

Brady: Because you are to blame for everything, you psychotic--

Kristen: Bitch, right? 'Cause that's what you think of me, and chloe is everything I am not. You know what, brady? Go be with her. I hope the two of you live miserably ever after.

[Groans]

[Somber music]

Sami: [Laughs] Ej, that was the perfect way to start the day.

Ej: Oh, I'll make a note of that.

Sami: Please do. Breakfast, I need it now. All right, what can I get you? Let's see. For you, my love.

Ej: Thank you.

Sami: I never thought I would get to touch your face again, feel your arms around me.

Ej: All of that is behind us, I swear.

Gabi: Oh, my god, my eyes! Ej, it looks like you find stabbing your brother in the back to be a real turn on. Hi, sami. What's it like down there at the bottom of the barrel? We do it every night.

Ej: Good morning, gabi.

Gabi: Screw you, ej! What kind of person are you?

Ej: Well, I assume that's a rhetorical question.

Gabi: I welcomed you to my house, my house, and then you organize a coup to get jake out of the company!

Ej: I told you, I didn't know that you and jake were involved until after it was all over.

Sami: He's telling the truth. He thought that jake and kate were together; kate was sleeping in his bed.

Gabi: It doesn't change anything--you went after your own brother, a brother that did nothing to you!

Ej: A brother poised to squander my father's legacy.

Gabi: Damn it, ej. When chad self-destructed, jake was the only one that made sure that your precious legacy did not go down with him, and he did a very good job!

Ej: He barely kept the company going, and that was with kate telling him what to do every step of the way. He was terribly unqualified for the position, and things were only going to get worse. I made an assessment of what was best for dimera enterprises. There was nothing personal about it!

Gabi: Oh, it is now. See, I hold you personally responsible for what happened to jake, and I will personally make sure that you pay for it. Philip and I, we're going to grind dimera enterprises into dust, and we're gonna enjoy every single moment of it.

[Tense music]

Sami: Gabi, gabi, wait! Hey, one second, hold on! God! Ej was telling you the truth, okay, he did not know about you and jake, all right? I didn't tell him.

Gabi: I don't care, sami. He is still the same egotistical power hungry jerk he's always been.

Sami: Gabi, think about this for a second, you just threw down the gauntlet with ej. You are smarter than that, okay? You have to be careful. You cannot just go around making enemies of dimeras. Have you learned nothing?

Chloe: Yeah, I thought it was weird that susan wanted to go mano a mano over a plate of muffins, but I didn't have an inkling that she was actually kristen. And then I told her how I feel about brady.

Nicole: I know, but my theory is that lucas and sami conspired against you to get you out of town, and when that didn't work, kristen threw you in the back of a car, so it totally makes sense that lucas and sami were just following her orders because kristen has something on them.

Chloe: So on top of everything else, kristen's a blackmailer. Just when I thought I couldn't despise the woman any more.

Nicole: Right?

Brady: I know what you mean.

[Phone rings]

Kristen: Hey, ej, it's me.

Ej: Kristen?

Kristen: I'm calling you because I want to find out if you got my letter. This is the sound of an asthma attack...

Jake: So yeah, you can see how the whole thing blindsided me. I mean, my other brothers were fine with me. Everything was fine until ej showed up. Now, I don't hate very many people in this world, but I sure as hell hate ej.

Rafe: Well, welcome to the club, man.

Jake: Why do you hate him?

Rafe: He doesn't pay his parking tickets.

Jake: Well, you bet your ass he's gonna pay for what he did to me.

Rafe: You know, I had a feeling you'd say that. Just make damn sure that my sister doesn't get caught up in the cross fire.

[Tense music]

Chloe: I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to hear that.

Brady: I'm not.

Nicole: Brady, are you okay? You look upset.

Brady: I'M... I'm a little upset. I got a call from kristen.

Chloe: What?

Brady: Yeah, she called me. She called me as if she was checking in from some business trip or something. She asked me how rachel was. I mean, how the hell does she think rachel is?

Nicole: Did she say where she was?

Brady: No, it was an unknown number that she was calling from; she's very good at covering her tracks. She always has been, years of practice.

Nicole: Well, listen, I'll leave you two alone. I have something to take care of anyway, so I'll see you later. Okay. Feel better.

Brady: Oh, I will. What are you doing here? You are supposed to be at home. You're supposed to be healing that.

Chloe: It's getting better, and honestly, I'm kind of glad to be back here. But I'm worried about you.

Brady: I'm not; I'll be okay. I'm just pretty bad at making decisions lately. Shawn actually gave me some of kristen's personal effects, chloe, and there was a photograph in there of you, and it was--well, it was mutilated.

Chloe: Do you have it?

Brady: Mm-hmm, I kept it. I kept it to remind myself of what kristen actually really is.

Chloe: Can I see it?

Brady: No, no, you don't want to see it, come on--

Chloe: Brady, please, I think it's important for me to see it. Let's look at it together. We have to face what happened.

Brady: Okay.

How could I have loved a woman that could do something like that?

Ej: You sent me a letter?

Kristen: Yeah, it should be by now. There's no return address, but trust me, it's not junk mail.

Ej: What's in it?

Kristen: I don't want to tell you over the phone.

Ej: Kristen, I'm not in the mood for your games. What the hell are you doing?

Limu emu... and doug.

Brady: Just talking to kristen, you know, hearing her voice and hearing her talk about these horrible things that just came across to her as everyday occurrences, I mean, it made me angry. But as quickly as I got angry, like a light switch, I wasn't angry anymore; I was numb because I got this clarity. I finally realized that she's not really a whole human being. She's not--she never was. I mean, it seems like she is at times, and then it's very apparent thash what seems like sanity, it's just her wearing another one of her masks.

Chloe: Yeah, I mean, I think you're right, but I'm so sorry that you had to go through that.

Brady: Don't you dare apologize to me. I just had to take a bad phone call. What you had to go through was crazy. But I did get some clarity from talking to her, like I said.

Chloe: I bet you did.

Brady: Not just about her, about you. And what I want. And god, chloe, all I want is to be with you.

Kate: I hate apologizing to my kids, but at least they're not all as judgmental as lucas.

Roman: Well, you did make them think you were blind and had no memory.

Kate: Yes, but I said I was sorry! You know what I think?

Roman: Well, I'm guessing I'm gonna find out.

Kate: I don't think lucas is really upset with me. It's only when I mentioned ej's name that he really went ballistic, and you know, you said yourself that he doesn't have an issue with sami, right?

Roman: He's gotten very protective of sami, and he resents the hell out of ej.

Kate: But why? I mean, lucas and sami have been over for a long time.

Roman: Yeah, well, I think maybe they've reconnected.

Nicole: So I was looking for you.

Lucas: Well, you got me. You found me, there you go.

Nicole: How are you feeling? Have you fully recovered from your brain tumor?

Lucas: My what?

Nicole: Yeah, chloe outed you; she told me the whole story, but you know what? We're both grappling with this one big question. Why in god's name did you want her to leave town? Or I think the better question is, why did sami want her gone? Because it's obvious now all you do is take her orders.

Lucas: Well, I don't--I mean, who knows why sami does anything? I don't know.

Nicole: Well, I think I do. Kristen was blackmailing her because kristen knew that you and sami were sleeping together.

Ej: Why the hell did you do that?

Sami: You were talking to kristen.

Ej: Yeah, and I wasn't done talking to kristen.

Sami: You can't talk to her. You're aiding and abetting a felon, a fugitive. I mean, my god, ej, you should block her number.

Ej: Damn it, she's my sister. What if she was trying to turn herself in?

Sami: Was she?

Ej: No, she wanted to tell me about a letter she sent me.

Sami: Letter, what letter?

Jake: Hey, thought you had a meeting.

Gabi: Got postponed. It gives me some more time to look over the proposal. The hell?

Jake: What, what happened?

Gabi: I guess I picked up an extra letter. This one's addressed to ej dimera.

Jake: [Laughs]
