Episode #13716 ~ Ciara tries to stop Ben's execution. Meanwhile, Evan reveals his secret to Sonny, and Kayla is horrified as Rolf suggests a new way for Stefano to have Marlena.

Kayla: Explain to me how you made steve think that he's stefano.

Rolf: Oh, steve doesn't think he's stefano. He is stefano. I was able to distill stefano's essence, his personality, his memories, well, his entire brain function really, and transfer all of it to a microchip which I then implanted in steve's brain. I always told you my work is revolutionary. Now you are experiencing it firsthand. Can you imagine what this could mean for the future?

Justin: Steve showed up at my doorstep demanding $10 million for kayla's return.

John: You saw him face-to-face?

Justin: Yeah. It was really, really weird. I mean, he was steve, minus the eye patch, but his voice and his mannerisms were pure stefano.

John: Why didn't you go to the cops?

Justin: I don't want to risk it. At that point, at least I knew that kayla was still alive. So he came back to get his $10 million, and he made a second demand, something he wants more than money, which is why I'm here. I need to talk to marlena.

John: That's what he wants, isn't it, his second demand? In exchange for kayla, stefano wants marlena.

Justin: Yep.

Sonny: Please don't point that at me. Put that down.

Evan: Look, you don't need to be scared of me. I would never hurt you, sonny. I just--I needed to get your attention.

Will: Well, I--I did not expect to become friends with the man who killed me, but being ben's cellmate really made prison almost bearable.

Marlena: I'm glad you were able to help each other through it.

Will: Yeah. And now I'm gonna be here for him one last time.

Stefano: Marlena will come around.

Kayla: The hell she will. And you are delusional to think that justin would ever trade her for me.

Kayla: Except justin knows that marlena would never love you, and he would never sacrifice her that way.

Stefano: Wouldn't he? You know, victor kiriakis is as ruthless as they come. He would stop at nothing to protect the people he loves. Perhaps some of that ruthlessness flows in his nephew's veins as well.

Kayla: Justin is nothing like victor.

Stefano: Mmm. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the notion. I'm counting on it and so should you if you ever want to see him again.

Justin: Let me be clear. I'm not suggesting that we trade marlena for kayla.

John: Oh, I never thought you would.

Justin: I just--we just have to make stefano believe that I'm cooperating until we can rescue kayla.

John: No, trust me, I get it. I have dealt with this bastard in one form or another for decades.

Justin: He doesn't give up, does he?

Ciara: Stop! Stop! You can't go through with this, okay? Ben is innocent.

Floyd: How did you get in here?

Ciara: This is wrong.

Marlena: What's going on here?

Floyd: Guard.

Ciara: No. No, no, no, no, no! Listen! Listen to me. They have evidence. They have dna evidence that puts the real killer at the scene of the crime.

Floyd: Are you serious?

Ciara: I do.

Marlena: Warden, you've got to hear her out.

Ciara: Okay, ben did not kill jordan ridgeway. A man named "christian maddox" did. He's the father of jordan's baby. The cops thought that the dna evidence they found at the scene of the crime belonged to david, but it didn't belong to david. They were wrong. It belonged to his father.

Floyd: How do I know all this to be true?

Ciara: Because we searched through the database, the criminal database, and the evidence was a perfect match to maddox.

Ben: Wait. You found him?

Ciara: Yes. Yes, I did. He's been living under the assumed name "evan frears."

Will: Did you say "evan frears?"

Sonny: What do you mean you're in trouble? What happened?

Evan: Rafe fired me.

Sonny: Why?

Evan: He--

Sonny: I mean, you're so good with david. Is it because he found out you have a gun?

Evan: It has nothing to do with the gun. It's about david.

Sonny: What about david?

Evan: They found something in my background check. I did my best to hide it from rafe. But when he discovered what it was, he let me go.

Sonny: I don't understand. What did he find?

Evan: He learned that I changed my name.

Sonny: Evan frears is not your real name?

Evan: No. It's not. Look, I changed my name because I couldn't let rafe know who I really was.

Sonny: Who you really are? I don't get it.

Kayla: Justin could serve marlena up on a silver platter and she still wouldn't love you. Unless of course you got old rolfie over there to give her a complete and total personality transplant like he did with you, and then, well, maybe then you have a chance.

Stefano: Why am I talking to you? I don't care what you think. I will have marlena, and god help anyone who stands in my way.

Rolf: With all due respect, sir, perhaps dr. Johnson raises a valid point.

Stefano: What are you suggesting?

Rolf: Well, I was able to transform hope into a princess. Why not transform marlena into a queen?

Will: Evan frears is david's nanny. He's the guy that sonny has been seeing.

Ciara: Right, right, right, no, but he's not actually david's nanny. He's david's father.

Marlena: Does sonny know this?

Floyd: Look, I have heard enough. Your convoluted story sounds like another desperate attempt just to try to stall this execution.

Will: I know exactly where evan is. I just saw him with sonny.

Sonny: I know how much you love david.

Evan: More than anything in the world.

Sonny: And as a caregiver, you spent just as much time with him as anyone. My friend lani used to take care of david when rafe was looking after jordan in the hospital, and she fell in love with david too.

Evan: It's not the same thing.

Sonny: Evan, you may love david like a son, but--

Evan: You're not listening to me, sonny! I'm not saying david is like a son to me. He's my flesh and blood.

Evan: Jordan and i had a child together. David is my son. (Vo) do you push through four or more migraine days a month?

Roman: All right, listen to me. Are you sure kayla is safe?

Justin: Yes. Stefano let me speak to her. I have agreed to give him the $10 million he demanded, but it turns out he wants something more. He wants marlena.

John: We don't plan on putting her in harm's way.

Rolf: I believe I can give you your queen of the night, sir.

Kayla: You have got to be kidding.

Stefano: I have no doubt that you are capable of a great many things, rolf. But I made it clear from the very beginning I want marlena to choose me of her own free will.

Rolf: Free will is a very gray area, sir.

Stefano: Not in this case. I don't want to be with some robot impersonating marlena. I want her.

Kayla: Is that supposed to be romantic?

Stefano: Love is when two souls connect. That is what marlena and i are meant to share.

Kayla: Give me something to stuff in my ears please. I think I am going to be sick.

Stefano: You of all people should understand what true love is.

Kayla: Obsession is not love.

Stefano: I assure you that what I feel for marlena is very real.

Rolf: I appreciate your desire to connect with the genuine marlena, sir, and I would never assume anything less.

Stefano: Then you understand why I don't need your help in this situation.

Rolf: Well, given how strongly she has resisted you in the past, I would just suggest that there are different ways to coax things along.

Stefano: Coax things along how?

Rolf: Well, I mean, I wouldn't have to turn her into a different person. She would still be dr. Marlena evans. Merely a bit more receptive to your advances, a little more susceptible to your considerable charms.

Kayla: This is total madness. You guys are insane!

Sonny: Wait. So wait, you slept with jordan?

Evan: Remember when I told you I was in a relationship out west that ended badly?

Sonny: You were talking about jordan? I just assumed that you were talking about a man.

Evan: It was easier just to let you think that.

Sonny: It was easier than telling me that david is your son?

Sonny: I--I just can't believe I'm hearing this right now.

Evan: Look, I know that she wasn't the most stable person, but it wasn't until the end that I finally realized what a psycho she truly was.

Will: Evan came by to see sonny, but he didn't have david with him.

Marlena: Well, are you sure about that?

Will: Yes, I'm positive. I walked by his car on the way out, and there's no child in it. I left them alone together. Come on, sonny. Come on. Pick up.

Floyd: I have had enough of this. We've scheduled an execution, and this stunt is not gonna delay it any longer.

Marlena: But you don't want to execute an innocent man.

Floyd: I don't decide guilt and innocence.

Marlena: I understand that. But if you go ahead, there's no turning back. What about contacting detective hernandez?

Floyd: I have a directive.

Ciara: Sonny's not answering.

Marlena: Okay. Look, the two of you go ahead. Warn him what's going on. I'll sit her with ben.

Ciara: Marlena, I'm counting on you, okay?

Marlena: I understand.

Ciara: Okay. Ben, baby, you can't lose hope, okay? 'Cause I'm gonna get you out of there. I'm gonna find christian maddox. I'm gonna bring him here. Justin: Roman, we don't have a lot of options right now.

John: We're running out of time.

Roman: We'll figure out another way to save my sister, but we can't put hattie's life at risk again. Kayla wouldn't want that either.

Hattie: Look, roman, it's really sweet of you to be so protective of me, but I'd like to help.

Roman: Hattie--

Hattie: And your sister is a very good person. She does not deserve this.

Roman: Do you know what you're offering?

Hattie: Yeah. Well, you said that I have a lot of street smarts. I can handle steve.

Roman: It's not steve. It's stefano dimera.

Marlena: Look, you can't go through with this now. With new evidence, you've got to put the execution on hold.

Floyd: I haven't seen any evidence.

Marlena: No, but you heard what ciara said.

Floyd: You expect me to take his girlfriend's word? Look, that's not how this works. The time for new evidence was at his trial. He was convicted.

Marlena: Convictions are turned over all the time. You know that.

Floyd: He appealed three times, none of which changed his sentence.

Marlena: Then we've got to reach out to the governor. See what he can do to stop this.

Floyd: Good luck trying to get him to take that call. The execution continues as planned. Doctor, please proceed.

Ben: Wait, no. No, no, no. Hey, hey, you can't do this. What about the new evidence?

Marlena: Ben, abe knows the governor. I'll call him right now.

Evan: I didn't do anything, okay? We broke up. She moved away. I didn't even know she was pregnant at the time. She never told me.

Evan: I--I saw pictures on her social media, and she was beaming holding this little baby. It wasn't hard to do the math.

Sonny: So then what? You just tracked her down here to salem?

Evan: Yes. And I found out she was living with rafe.

Sonny: I just don't understand it. If you're really david's father, why not just announce yourself? Why would you create a fake name and then take a position as the nanny?

Evan: I didn't have any choice. No court was gonna let me have my son.

Sonny: Why not?

Evan: Because I have a criminal record.

Sonny: What? What crimes did you commit?

Evan: It doesn't matter, sonny. All that matters is that I did what I had to do to be close to my son. It was heaven to be with him every day, to care for him, to see how much he relied on me.

Sonny: I know. I know. But it was all a lie.

Evan: Yeah, but our relationship is real. I didn't think it could get any better until I met you, and I saw what a perfect family we could become, you, me, david, and ari, but now everything's falling apart, and that's why I need your help. I just need enough money to leave salem with my son.

Roman: Hattie, listen. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you wanting to help my sister, but you need to hear me. Neither I nor kayla could ever live with ourselves if something happened to you.

Roman: You want to use her as bait?

Justin: Look, roman, I wouldn't ask this of anyone if I didn't think kayla's life hangs in the balance. It's kayla, which means it's stefano.

John: Here we go. Put it on speaker.

Justin: Stefano.

Stefano: Counselor. I trust that by now you've reached out to marlena.

Justin: Yes. I've approached marlena.

Stefano: Mm-hmm. My patience is wearing thin. Do we have a deal? I will release kayla if marlena agrees to go away with me.

Evan: David is safe.

Sonny: What does that mean? Where is he?

Evan: I can't tell you that, not right now, but you believe me, don't you?

Sonny: Yes, I believe that david is your son.

Evan: And you understand why I lied?

Sonny: I understand why you pretended to be his nanny, okay, but you can't leave town with david. You need to go find rafe, and you need to explain yourself to him and the authorities.

Evan: They'll never understand! I won't lose my son again! Please, I need your help, okay? Just enough money for a fresh start. I mean, you have plenty to spare.

Ciara: His name isn't evan frears. His real name is christian maddox, and he's david's father.

Sonny: I know. He just--he just told me. I know that he was with jordan before he came to salem. I know.

Ciara: Sonny, he wasn't just with jordan, okay? He killed her. He killed jordan, and he let ben take the fall. Isn't that right, christian?

Evan: You shouldn't have come here.

Marlena: Abe, thank you so much. Please hurry. There's not much time left. Ben, abe is contacting the governor. Just hold on.

Floyd: I told you I'm not waiting any longer.

Marlena: You have to wait until we hear from abe or the governor. You just have to.

Floyd: It is my job to oversee this execution, and I intend to do so. Doctor, are the ivs in? Please explain to the prisoner what is about to happen to him.

We flush a saline solution through the ivs to make sure the lines are not blocked. The initial injection is a barbiturate that acts as an anesthetic so you will not feel what's happening. The second is a muscle relaxant that will diminish your breathing. And finally the third injection stops your heart. I switched to miralax for my constipation.

Stefano: I'm waiting for your answer, justin.

Justin: The answer is--

Kayla: Justin, don't do it. Don't risk marlena's life for mine.

Hattie: Stefano, it's me.

Stefano: Marlena? Is it really you?

Hattie: Yes. Please don't hurt my friend.

Stefano: I have no intention of hurting anyone.

Hattie: Good. Good. So we will do the switch. Kayla for me. Just tell us what we need to do.

Sonny: Is this true? Did you kill jordan?

Evan: Don't listen to her.

Ciara: No, no, no. It's true, sonny. Some of the dna that the police found, they thought it belonged to david, but it really belongs to david's father. The evidence is indisputable.

Will: She's right. Sonny, he's a murderer.

Sonny: Evan--

Evan: Don't look at me like that. She tried to take my son away from me. Jordan was crazy. You all knew that! All I ever wanted to do was protect david.

Ciara: Hey. It's over, okay? Rafe and the police know everything. We all know what you did.

Evan: Then you know what I'm capable of.

The iv is clear, and we are ready to proceed with administering the three drugs.
