Jack: It's so long. It just grew and grew and grew.

Jennifer: Abigail?

Abigail: Didn't you guys get my messages?

Jack: Well, no, we were in the middle of something. What's up?

Jennifer: Is something wrong?

Abigail: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you. It looks like you were celebrating, but, mom, I think you deserve to know who actually put you in that coma.

[Mysterious music]

Rafe: We need to talk about rolf.

Kate: Why didn't you tell me that rolf was the one who pushed jennifer? Now chad's on to it, so is-- so are the police.

Steve as stefano: I must be going now. Goodbye, katarina.

[Keypad beeps] Ah, rolf.

Rolf: [Chuckles]

Steve as stefano: Thank you for coming.

Rolf: Well, I am always at your beck and call mr. Dimera. What can I do for you?

Steve as stefano: Well, rolf, I am afraid I'm going to have to ask you to make the ultimate sacrifice.

[Door opens]

Marlena: Oh, oh.

[Door closes]

Kate: Hey.

Marlena: Oh, hi.

Kate: Hey, honey. Roman told me about mackenzie's illness. I am so sorry.

Marlena: Yeah, thanks.

Kate: Yeah, you know we're all praying for her.

Marlena: Thank you for that too, but right now, the person I'm most concerned about is hope.

[Gentle holiday music playing]

Hope: John, the salad is ready. I know marlena's not a fan of radishes, so I put them on the side. Where is she?

John: She went out.

Hope: Oh, so I guess it's just the two of us for dinner after all.

John: Uh, hope--

Hope: Should I pour some more wine or--oh, do you want me to get the salad?

John: No, no, no. Hope, please. Please--please don'T.

Hope: All right, then let's just...

[Sighs] Sit down and relax for a second.

John: Hope, listen, what I'm trying to say is we're not gonna be having dinner here tonight, or any night for that matter.

Hope: Why not?

John: Well because I-- I think it's time that you move out.

Rolf: You want me to make the ultimate sacrifice, sir?

Steve as stefano: Yes. Unfortunately, my very persistent daughter-in-law, abigail, won't stop investigating her mother's fall from the balcony. This has put princess gina in terrible jeopardy.

Rolf: Yes, I understand.

Steve as stefano: If they can tie her to jennifer's fall, all my plans will be ruined. And even worse, I would lose marlena forever.

Marlena: So, once again, I walked in on what appeared to be a very close moment between the two of them. Look, I was upset.

[Stammers] I'm--I'm done, so I asked john to have her leave.

Kate: How did he react?

Marlena: He thought that I was misreading the situation. You know me. Do you think maybe I'm out of line here?

[Soft dramatic music]

Steve as stefano: Katarina, did you bring what I asked?

Kate: Yes. I've kept it safe since andre died.

Steve as stefano: Thank you.

Ah, back where you belong.

Hope: Why is she here?

Kate: Hope?

Marlena: Kate, what do you think? Did I make a mistake there?

Kate: No. You are most definitely not the bad guy here.

Hope: Okay. All right, I, um-- I see where this is going. Marlena wants me out so she's left you to do the dirty work.

John: No, no. That's not it at all.

Hope: Yes, it is. John, I could see how upset she was when she walked through the door and saw that you were comforting me, and I'm so sorry about that. Does she feel insecure about your relationship?

John: No, she's not insecure.

Hope: Then what is it?

[Soft eerie music]

Does she think that you have feelings for me?

Jack: So it really was rolf who pushed you over that ledge?

Jennifer: I shouldn't be surprised.

Jack: I mean, do they have him in custody?

Abigail: No. There's an apb out, and rafe has a police guard posted outside the house.

Jennifer: I didn't even see anyone out there.

Abigail: Yeah. You okay, mom?

Jennifer: Yeah, I guess I just thought when we finally figured out what happened that night that all these memories would come flooding back to me. Are they sure that it was rolf?

Abigail: Yes. Yeah, chad had a dimera forensic expert come in and look at the surveillance footage themselves. And, mom, rolf doctored that footage to make it look like eve was responsible.

Jack: Well, he was able to look at the real footage?

Abigail: Yes, I saw it myself with my own eyes. It was rolf.

Jennifer: Honey, I believe you, but there's still something about this that just feels so off. I mean, maybe I can look at the footage and it'll trigger something. I don't know. Where is that footage right now?

Abigail: Well, it's at the police station.

Jennifer: I want to see it.

Jack: Well, it's a little late, jennifer. We just got back from the hospital.

Abigail: Mom, mom, mom, mom.

Jennifer: And I wanna see it.

Jack: All right, all right. We'll take you there right now.

Rafe: Abigail told me that you met with rolf recently.

Chad: That's right.

Rafe: Uh-huh. He happen to mention any future plans to you?

Chad: Uh, no. No future plans. Nothing.

Rafe: What was the meeting about?

Chad: Just dimera business.

Rafe: Okay. Well, if he happens to reach out to you again or if you remember anything that might help me, please let me know.

Chad: I will. Good luck.

Rafe: Thank you.

[Soft dramatic music]

[Beep]

Steve as stefano: In order to protect gina, I had to intervene with our forensics expert to have the video footage altered. We needed a scapegoat.

Rolf: And you chose me?

Steve as stefano: We needed someone...recognizable, someone believable.

[Sighs] I know it may seem unfair after you've been nothing but loyal.

Rolf: [Chuckles] No, no, no, no. I know my place. I have no illusions about my standing. I am but a pawn in the phoenix's game.

Steve as stefano: [Chuckles]

[Phone beeps] Excuse me. Oh, no.

Rolf: What is it, sir?

Steve as stefano: I'm afraid we have another complication.

Kate: You're the best judge of character I know, so if you feel something, it's probably right.

Marlena: Thank you for saying that.

Kate: Did you really doubt yourself?

Marlena: [Sighs] I don't know what to say. Her behavior has been so unfathomable. You know, I mean, I just don't know what's gotten into her.

Kate: I have absolutely no idea what's going on here. I got a call--

Steve as stefano: Relax. Relax, katarina. She is not here as an officer of the law.

Kate: [Scoffs] Why is hope here?

Steve as stefano: Well, this isn't hope at all. Katarina, meet princess gina von amberg.

Kate: Princess gina?

Hope: I would say it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, but we have already met. You just do not know so.

Kate: Oh, really? So you've been masquerading as hope this entire time?

Hope: And apparently doing a spectacular job of it. I fooled you.

Marlena: It just seems like ever since I got home, she's not the same person we used to know.

Kate: Yeah. Well, it certainly seems that way.

John: Hope. Look, I know that-- I know that you're going through a lot right now, and it's been a really difficult year. And you know how much I care about you. I just don't want anybody to feel awkward or uncomfortable as we move forward on this.

Hope: So you decided that it would be best for me to leave--to move out.

John: Well, I think it will be better for everybody, yeah. And when marlena gets home, I will--I'll assure her that you and I were on the same page. It's the right thing to do, and of course, you just think of me as a friend.

Hope: Now I understand why you want to tell marlena all that, but it's not true, john. What-- what I feel for you is more than friendship.

Jennifer: Even seeing this myself doesn't seem familiar. I have no memory of rolf being there at all that night.

Jack: Don't worry. It'll come back to you in time.

Jennifer: What if it doesn't?

Jack: Well, at least now we know the truth thanks to abigail. We can keep you safe.

Rafe: Jack's right. With the apb out on rolf, he can't hide from us forever.

Abigail: Any leads yet?

Rafe: Well, he was last spotted at the salem inn

Jack: Well, what about the airports?

Rafe: Well, our belief is he hasn't flown-- at least not yet. I have a hunch actually that he is nearby.

Jennifer: Well, that doesn't sound very reassuring, rafe.

Rafe: Jennifer, don't you worry. We're gonna keep you safe, we're gonna find rolf, and we're gonna make him pay for what he did to you.

[Soft dramatic music]

[Beep]

Chad: I am no longer your...son.

Marlena: Did you notice anything about hope's behavior while I was away? I mean, something that might explain this odd behavior of hers.

Steve as stefano: Gina needed a new vessel to come back to salem and help me pursue our goals.

Kate: A new vessel?

Steve as stefano: She is in hope brady's body just as I am in steven johnson'S.

Kate: Oh, my god.

[Laughs] I mean, seriously. This is so difficult to wrap your head around. I totally understand you coming back to seize your company, but what does it matter to the princess?

Hope: I see that the two of you have already been working together, hm?

Steve as stefano: I reached out to katarina, yes, for her assistance.

Hope: Oh, and you do not think that I should know this?

Steve as stefano: I didn't think you needed to. As a matter of fact, I was hoping to avoid exactly what is happening here right now-- this petty jealousy and competition.

Hope: You wish. There is no jealousy, nor any competition.

Steve as stefano: Good, because we are on the same side. We're a team, and we're going to accomplish all our goals together.

Kate: Mm.

Hope: Are you sure she's gonna be all right with us breaking up john and her dear, dear sweet friend, marlena?

Kate: What did you say? Explain her behavior? I wish I could.

Hope: I promise you. I never expected this. It totally took me by surprise, john.

John: Oh, we're-- we're good friends, hope.

Hope: I know we are. We have been for years. It's just--I don't know. Something in the last few months it changed. It...

John: [Mouths inaudibly]

Hope: After my divorce from rafe, I was lost, and... you took me in, and you cared for me, and you were my rock.

John: Oh, hope.

Hope: And I'd like to think that maybe in, I don't know, some small way, maybe I helped you too. I mean, marlena was away for months and I was there for you, right? Wasn't I? We were there for each other.

John: Of course we were.

Hope: We helped each other.

John: Yes, we did.

Hope: What I'm saying is that I didn't mean for this to happen, and I know that you didn't either, but you know what? I think maybe, on some level, you sensed it. I believe that. I do. Really. And whether you want to admit it or say it out loud, you feel something for me too. I know it.

Hope: The moments we connected, john, meant so much to me. I'll never forget them.

John: That's the best choice.

Hope: I thought so. A toast?

John: Yeah, sure. Sure. What are we drinking to?

Hope: To us?

John: To us.

Both]

Hope: You really are lonely, aren't you?

John: [Scoffs] You know I am.

Hope: You really are lonely, aren't you?

John: [Scoffs] You know I am.

Hope: I spilled my wine all over myself. I was just about to go change.

John: Oh, what can I do to help clean up here?

Hope: Oh, luckily I, um...

[Laughs] A majority of it ended up in my blouse and my cami, but you know what I'm more upset about? Wasting a really good glass of wine.

John: Oh, you know what? I can fix that-- seeing as how I have had enough, you may now have mine.

[Laughs]

Hope: Thank you. Who knows? If you weren't married-- how far that night might've gone between this.

Marlena: Look. I just find it hard to believe that somebody like hope, somebody we think of as principled would cross a line like that.

Kate: I know. I know. It's shocking.

Marlena: I agree. I can't believe that hope would do a thing like that.

Kate: Like I said to you before, when it comes to behavior and people, you have the best instincts of anyone I know. You need to follow them.

Kate: I am not okay with this at all. I mean, I don't care about steve johnson or hope for that matter, but I am not on board for hurting marlena.

Hope: We do not need her.

Steve as stefano: Yes, we do.

Hope: No.

Steve as stefano: Katarina is vital and we need to work together.

Hope: All right. As long as one thing is clear. Crystal clear. You may be marlena's friend, but if you breathe a word to her or try to ruin what we have been working on, you shall be quite sorry.

Steve as stefano: Is that understood, katarina? Katarina?

Kate: [Sighs]

Kate: There's something I need to tell you.

Rolf: What are you going to tell chad about me?

Steve as stefano: Don't worry. I'll handle my son.

Chad: Your word?

Rolf: Do you think he could find you?

Steve as stefano: Chad is a clever boy, and can be quite resourceful. Well, my friend, I'm afraid the time has come for you to go. Time is of the essence.

Jack: What do you say I get you home, and we pick up where we left off?

Jennifer: Yeah, I'd like that.

Jack: Good.

Abigail: Okay, mom, are you doing okay?

Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, I'm good. I want you to go home and be with your husband and your babies and tuck them in bed and read them bedtime stories.

Abigail: Okay, well, if you're sure.

Jennifer: I'm sure.

Abigail: Okay.

Jennifer: Thank you for staying in this and not giving up. I admire your determination and your drive.

Abigail: Well, I wonder where I got that from?

Jack: Can't imagine.

Rafe: We're gonna keep a guard posted outside your place at least till rolf's brought in.

Jack: Thank you. Appreciate it.

Rafe: And he will be as inconspicuous as possible because I want you to go about living your lives enjoying the holiday, not feeling like you are prisoners.

Jack: Perfect, perfect. It's good to know someone will be keeping their eyes out.

Rafe: I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything about rolf.

Jennifer: Rafe, thank you so much.

[Phone rings]

Rafe: Excuse me. Detective hernandez. You sure it's him? Okay. Yeah, I'm on it.

Jennifer: Wait, was that about rolf?

Rafe: Yeah. It's our biggest lead. Someone spotted him today.

Abigail: Are you sure that it was rolf they spotted?

Rafe: Well, they can't be 100% sure, but the eyewitness sounded very confident.

Jack: Where was he?

Rafe: On the outskirts of salem heading to a nondescript building.

Abigail: This is great. This is great news.

Rafe: Yeah. Let's hope he hasn't moved. I'm heading there now.

Jennifer: Okay.

Jack: All right.

Rafe: Hey, I've got a lead on rolf! Requesting backup!

Abigail: Mom.

Steve as stefano: You're a wanted man, and chad is on the warpath. I can't have you around.

Rolf: Nope, I understand.

Steve as stefano: There's a private plane waiting for you on the airstrip. Leave now under cover of darkness.

Rolf: Thank you. Thank you, sir.

Steve as stefano: Before you go, I want you to have a token of my appreciation for all your years of loyal service. No, I insist.

Rolf: It's not necessary.

Steve as stefano: I insist. You earned it.

Rolf: Your portrait.

Steve as stefano: I'll have it delivered to you when you've established yourself in a safe haven.

Rolf: It will be wonderful. This way, the eyes of stefano dimera will always be upon me.

Steve as stefano: Oh. You're a good man, wilhelm rolf.

Rolf: It has been my life's honor to serve you.

Steve as stefano: Ciao, my friend. Ciao.

Marlena: Kate, what is it you want to tell me? Is it about john and hope?

Kate: [Sighs] I want to tell you... that you are the love of john's life and no one will ever come between the two of you.

Hope: Why are you looking at me like that?

Kate: Wow. I'm just realizing that marlena has nothing to worry about. You would never be able to take john away from her.

Hope: You do not know that.

Kate: No, no. I do. I do. She's one of the best people I know. She's beautiful on the outside and on the inside, and john is utterly devoted to her as she is to him, and you of all people should know that.

Steve as stefano: You can believe whatever you like, katarina. But what I need from you-- I need to know that you will not breathe a word to marlena or anyone else. Do you understand?

Kate: And that's all I can say.

Hope: John black, you have always been an honest man. Be honest now with yourself, with me.

John: You want honest? I can give you that. You just said if I weren't married.

Hope: Yes.

John: But I am married. I am married to the most wonderful woman in the world, and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And that woman that I love-- the only woman for me now and forever is marlena.

John: Hey, I apologize. I am so sorry if I-- if I have said or if I did anything unintentionally that gave you the wrong idea about us.

Hope: Wrong idea?

John: I care about you so much. You're such a good friend.

Hope: John...

John: And you know, we really had a great time this last year. And yes, we came to rely on each other, but... I'm not in love with you, and that's why you have to move out. You know, living here with doc and me, it's just not fair to you. You deserve a hell of a lot more than that. You deserve to-- you deserve to be with a man who can love you back. And for those reasons, I-- I think that you need to pack up your stuff and go.

Hope: Is that what you want?

John: Yeah. It would be best for everybody.

[Somber music]

Hope: Okay.

John: Okay?

Hope: Okay. I'll send for my things.

John: [Sighs]

Kate: Look, you have nothing to worry about, okay? So go home to your adoring husband and your private townhouse and enjoy yourself.

Marlena: [Laughs] Thanks.

Kate: You know, I only want what's best for you, right?

Marlena: You know I adore you.

Kate: Okay. On your way. Let me give you a hug.

Marlena: Mm-hmm. Thank you.

Kate: [Sighs]

[Tense music]

Jack: You're distracted.

Jennifer: I can't stop thinking about this rolf thing. I mean, jack, what was on that flash drive that rolf was willing to kill me to get it back?

Jack: I have no idea, but when he's in custody, we're going to get some answers.

Jennifer: That's all I want. I just want answers, jack.

Jack: All right.

Steve as stefano: Mmm. Gina, you just missed rolf.

Hope: There's an apb out on him.

Steve as stefano: I know that and he's on his way out of the country. He wasn't very happy about having to take the fall for you, but he handled it like a true soldier

Hope: Yes, well, if he had not been so careless with that flash drive and if he had guarded it, I never would have had to have pushed jennifer off that balcony in the first place. I wish him a safe journey.

Steve as stefano: And you call me cold.

Hope: I was being sincere. Oh, stefano. I have my own problems right now.

Steve as stefano: What problems?

Hope: John has asked me to move out of the townhouse.

Steve as stefano: He kicked you out?

Hope: Yes, and right before christmas, no less.

Steve as stefano: Well, I'm sure you'll figure something out.

Hope: This is all because of your queen of the night. She is the reason john has asked me to move out, but you know what? I do not blame her. Do you know who I do blame? You.

Steve as stefano: Me?

Hope: Yes, you.

Steve as stefano: Why?

Hope: Because you have been so focused on demira enterprises and that son of yours that you have taken your eyes off the prize.

Steve as stefano: Have I?

Hope: Need I remind you that why the reason we came back was to break up john and marlena, and we are further away from our goal than ever.

Steve as stefano: Perhaps I have been a bit distracted, but I am here to tell you I am not giving up, all right? It's time to take our plan to a whole new level.

[Tense music]

Kate: I'll help you with the business end of things because that's what I signed on for, but nothing more.

Steve as stefano: Fair enough.

Kate: And if you want to go ahead and make your pathetic attempt to steal john away from marlena, then go ahead and try because you'll fail. But I swear to you, if you do anything to hurt marlena, you'll deal with me.

John: The coast is clear. I asked hope to leave.

Marlena: Oh, honey. And she did? She left without a fight?

John: She did, and she's gonna send for her stuff later.

Marlena: Oh. I'm so sorry that I had to put you in that position.

John: No, you didn'T. I put myself there.

Marlena: You know that I trust you.

John: I know, but having her move out was the right thing to do. I'm just glad that it's done.

Marlena: Oh, me too.

[Laughing] Oh, me too. Oh, my gosh. We've got the place to ourselves again.

John: Finally.

Marlena: Finally.

John: Sweetheart, have I told you lately just how much I love you?

Marlena: You have, but it's never enough, and I love you.

John: I love you.

Marlena: [Sighs] Hmm. Hmm, oh. Mmm.

Jack: You know, if it's one thing I remember from being in amnesia land, is that you can't dwell on trying to get your memory back. You can't force it to happen.

Jennifer: No, I know. But that's the point. I hate not knowing, jack, because somebody tried to kill me and I can't even remember.

Jack: Yes, I know that. You know I do. You were with me when I had no memory whatsoever. I couldn't remember you. I couldn't remember my kids. I know the frustration of trying to remember everything-- even the bad stuff when it doesn't come.

Jennifer: I know, and I want to let it go. I want to move on. I want to be happy in our life.

Jack: And we will, and you will remember it. When you let it go, it'll come back to you all on its own.

Jennifer: And that's just great because now I've ruined the whole night. You planned this amazing evening and all I'm talking about is rolf and that awful night.

Jack: Jennifer horton deveraux, you can talk to me about rolf or riff or rafe or anything you want. I don't care. You could talk to me today, tomorrow, any day for the rest of our lives. Just do it with me.

Jennifer: Really?

Jack: Really.

[Chuckles] You can be there for me as long as you let me be there for you.

Jennifer: You mean it?

Jack: I mean it. We're in this together forever.

Jennifer: Forever.

Jack: Forever.

Jennifer: And actually, it is still officially our wedding night that we promised each other.

Jack: Oh. Hey, you don't say.

Jennifer: I do say, and we're alone again.

Jack: I--I noticed.

Both: [Laugh]

Jack: So, mrs. Deveraux, would you mind going upstairs with me?

Jennifer: I thought you'd never ask.

Jack: After you.

Jennifer: After you.

Jack: After you.

Both: [Laugh]

Chad: I was in touch with my father.

Abigail: Did you ask him about rolf?

Chad: I did. He said he had nothing to do with your mother's fall, that he would deal with rolf, and we wouldn't have to worry about him again.

Abigail: I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse. Maybe it doesn't even matter.

Chad: Why do you say that?

Abigail: Because I was just at the police station and rafe got a call saying that dr. Rolf was seen on the outskirts of town, so he's headed over there now. I just--I just want all of this be over soon.

Hope: I am glad we dealt with the rolf situation, but now, do tell me about the next phase, the plan to break up john and marlena.

[Banging on door]

Rafe: Police! Open up!
