Episode #13547 ~ "Nicole" convinces Stefan to give her a job at DiMera. Trying to impress Sarah, Xander swoops in to save the day. Ted gets an idea of how to be the hero in Hope's eyes. Kate and Marlena comfort each other about Will.

Ted: Hope, you okay?

Hope: Ben was arrested.

Ted: I--I know that. Eve deveraux left me a message offering me my job back, believe it or not. Of course, I'm not interested. You know the details of ben weston's arrest, I assume?

Hope: So far, all I heard was that he set my family's cabin on fire with haley and tripp inside.

Ted: Whoa. Uh, is everybody all right?

Hope: Yeah, thank god. Thankfully, eli rescued them. Ted, he said that he found ben at the scene with a lighter, and they might be able to-- to link him to the fire that almost killed ciara.

Ted: It's about time. Hope, you always thought he was responsible.

Hope: But going after haley and tripp? Come on, what's the motive here? There isn't one.

Ted: And you wish you were in the middle of the investigation, not on the outside, huh? I may just have the solution.

Hope: You do?

Ted: Yeah. A very good bottle of wine and a conversation about anything but the job we no longer have. How about that?

Hope: Hmm. I like the sound of that.

Ted: Okay.

Hope: Okay.

Ted: Um, before we go in, um, I'd like to give you something. Now that your divorce is almost final, maybe you could accept my gift?

[Poignant music]

Hope: No. Ted, put this away. I'm not going to accept it, ever. I can'T. Please put it away.

Ted: Okay.

Victor: So you've started drinking again. When?

Maggie: After holly's funeral.

Victor: So when I came home and brady was taking you upstairs?

Maggie: I was drunk. I asked him not to say anything.

Victor: Why, for god's sake? I'm your husband.

Brady: Granddad, don't make this about you.

Victor: But it is about me, isn't it? Am I the one that drove you to drink?

[Melancholy music]

Sarah: That's the best that you've got? That you're the miracle I've been hoping for? Go away, xander.

Xander: You really do want to hear what I have to say, I promise.

Sarah: No, I don't! My cousin will is dying, so the last thing that I want to hear are your lame-ass come-ons.

Xander: Well, just give me a chance to expl--I know exactly what you need.

Sarah: Oh, my god! What the hell?

Xander: Dr. Rolf's diary. I can make that happen.

[Eerie music]

[Ethereal music]

Stefan: I can't imagine what we have to talk about.

Nicole: Well, invite me in and find out.

Stefan: Okay.

Nicole: Ah. I have so many memories of living in this house.

Stefan: You lived here?

Nicole: As ej's wife.

Stefan: Oh, right, of course.

Nicole: So many memories.

Stefan: Okay, I'm sorry to be brief here, but I've got some business issues to attend to, so if you want to tell me why you're here...

Nicole: I need your help.

Stefan: With what?

Nicole: But before I tell you anything, I need you to promise that you'll keep this between us.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

[Melancholy music]

Kate: It's just so hard to see will suffering like this.

Marlena: Well, he's resting now, so that's something.

Kate: Believe me, I am well aware that life is not fair, but it seems like we were just making up for that lost time we had with him, and now we're going to lose him all over again. Just so much suffering.

[Sighs] I just wish that we could save him.

Marlena: You know that everybody is working on a cure. Of course, without rolf's diary, all we can do is hope for the best.

Sarah: You know where rolf's diary is?

Xander: I have a pretty good idea.

Sarah: And you're willing to retrieve it? Why?

Xander: Well, I know how important it is to you and your mom.

Sarah: My mom? Since when do you care about her?

Xander: Oh, mags and I had a major bonding sesh last night. Turns out she's not as uptight and judgy as I thought.

Sarah: So what now, you're-- you're bffs?

Xander: Oh, not quite, but, uh, she listened to me whine about my childhood, which can't have been much fun for her, even though there was ice cream. I don't know. I just want to do something nice for her in return, and for you.

Sarah: Even if I believed that you had the diary, you're not exactly the kind of guy that does things out of the goodness of whatever heart's in there, so what's your angle?

Xander: Mm, yeah, I mean, I guess if you wanted to thank me with another roll in the hay, then...

[Echoing guitar music]

Stefan: You have my word, I'll keep your confidence, but why the secrecy?

Nicole: Well, I know how close you and chloe are, and that woman lost any right to know anything about me when she let my daughter die, so would hate for you to discuss this with her.

Stefan: Chloe moved out.

Nicole: Really?

Stefan: Mm.

Nicole: Why's that?

Stefan: Things didn't work out between us.

Nicole: Well, you're better off, if you ask me. Chloe only thinks about chloe. Maybe if she put my daughter first, holly would still be alive.

Stefan: Chloe loved that little girl more than anything. She did everything she could to protect her.

Nicole: I am so tired of hearing that.

Stefan: It's the truth. Maybe you can find it in your heart to forgive her.

Nicole: I know we're not very well-acquainted, but what you'll learn about me is when someone betrays me, or lets me down, I hold a grudge for a very, very long time.

Stefan: Duly noted. Why don't you tell me about this favor, hmm? What can I do for you?

Nicole: I want to talk to you about dimera enterprises.

Hope: Ted, I'm not the type of woman that...

[Sighs] I don't move quickly.

Ted: I-I understand that, but if you still have doubts about my character, I just want you to know that I would do anything to prove to you that I'm worthy of a woman as amazing as you.

[Intriguing chime music]

Marlena: I should tell you that john called paul with the news. He was devastated. John and I agreed that he should--he should be there with paul right now. He's left already, but he'll be back by tomorrow.

Kate: Yeah. It was really hard to phone lucas. He is heartbroken. He really is, and he'S... he's feeling so guilty because he wasn't here the whole time, but... he had to be with ali. I mean, he really did, and I told him there was no way that any of us could've known this--this would happen. Everyone was blindsided.

Marlena: Yeah. I-is lucas coming back?

Kate: Yeah, he is. He's gonna, um-- he's gonna take the next flight out. What about sami? Is she--did she get back to you?

Marlena: Uh, sami is making arrangements, and, uh, we're hoping she gets here in time.

Kate: Well, we have a wedding to plan that we...

[Laughs] You know, I think-- I think we need to focus on that.

Marlena: [Laughs]

Kate: So I have, um-- I have orders from will, and I'm gonna get started.

Marlena: Tonight?

Kate: [Sighs] Yeah, 'cause that's what we have. We have the present. That's all we have right now. So you'll tell me if there's any change, right?

Marlena: I will, I will.

[Tender music]

Victor: I know there's been a lot of tension in our marriage lately, what with kate on the other hand, with the chloe situation. Is that what drove you to the bottle?

Maggie: Well, it was just one of the things, but yes, mostly, it was about holly.

Victor: Doesn't help any that that damn nicole blamed you for her death. She's the one that's to blame for this.

Brady: No, this is-- this is not about placing blame.

Victor: Oh, stop defending her! Look what she's done to maggie!

Maggie: Brady is right. I have to accept responsibility for my actions. I had a weak moment. Several, actually. So now I rebuild, and I take control of my sobriety so that I don't have another slip.

Victor: I'm, uh... well, what can I do?

Maggie: Calm down, for starters. And I would like to talk later.

Victor: I'd like that, too.

Maggie: Okay. Brady, would you mind taking me home?

Brady: Sure.

Victor: Maggie... I love you.

Maggie: I love you, too.

Nicole: I have seen a few headlines lately about dimera going through a rough patch. Profits are down three quarters straight. Ouch.

Stefan: I'm surprised you know so much about my company's bottom line, with everything you've been through.

Nicole: Well, I had to do my research if I'm gonna give you my pitch.

Stefan: Pitch?

Nicole: I can help you turn things around.

Stefan: How are you gonna do that?

Nicole: I can work for you.

Stefan: [Scoffs] You want to work for dimera?

Nicole: I do, and somehow, I think I will fit right in. (Christine) my son really had to

[Melancholy music]

Eric: Mom. I didn't get your message about will until just now. Is there anything I can do, or you need?

Marlena: Well, I need company. Mm.

Eric: Hey, so tell me, how did sami take the news?

Marlena: Oh, you know sami. I mean, she's trying to be strong, but she will need all of our support.

Eric: Of course she'll have our support.

Marlena: Yeah. How are you? How's nicole? Any progress?

Eric: Oh, not in a good way. Think I ruined any chance I had of being with her.

Stefan: Just lost a child. You sure you're ready to jump back into a job?

Nicole: I just can't give up. There has to be some light at the end of this grief, something to hope for, a-a reason to go on. You can understand that, right?

Stefan: I can.

Nicole: And it's not like i don't have any business experience. I ran basic black for titan and made it a huge success. I could do that again for you.

Stefan: I sold basic black last year.

Nicole: But you retained the rights to the name. You can revive basic black, put me in charge, and watch it soar. So what do you say?

Stefan: [Sighs] Sorry, nicole. My answer's no.

[Easygoing music playing]

Hope: Rex, hi.

Rex: Oh, hi.

Hope: Hi. Uh... rex, this is ted laurent. Ted, this is rex brady.

Ted: Oh, another brady. Nice to meet you.

Rex: Yeah, there's a lot of us in this town. Nice to meet you as well.

Hope: Roman told me about will. It's so sad.

Rex: Yeah. There's just so much damn tragedy in this town as of late. Nicole's shattered over holly's death. And it was gonna get worse, if xander cook had his way.

Xander: [Laughs] Ouch.

Sarah: I am engaged to rex, and even if I wasn't, I wouldn't want those lips anywhere near me ever again.

Xander: I don't remember you complaining this much last time.

Sarah: I was drunk, so back off!

Xander: He doesn't deserve you, you know.

Sarah: You don't even know rex!

Xander: Oh, I know plenty. He already cheated on you more than once, with your sister, no less. How are you ever gonna be able to really trust him again?

Sarah: We love each other.

Xander: Oh, you say that like you mean it, but you deserve so much better.

Sarah: [Scoffs] Like who, you?

Xander: Oh, I know how to treat a lady.

Sarah: You trapped nicole in a cage!

Xander: She was being very uncooperative.

Sarah: You blackmailed her into marriage.

Xander: I mean, that was mostly just for kicks. Nicole and I-- it's not like this. I didn't love nicole.

Sarah: "Like this"? Are you saying that you love me?

Xander: That's a big word, but, um, it's not totally out of the question.

Sarah: Oh, my god. Actually, it is. You have done a lot of terrible things. You're a con artist.

Xander: Some might say clever.

Sarah: No, you're arrogant.

Xander: Confident.

Sarah: Greedy.

Xander: Ambitious.

Sarah: You're self-absorbed.

Xander: So you're just going to roll right past handsome?

Sarah: You are completely and utterly heartless.

Xander: Which is exactly why I want to offer you the diary: To prove to you I'm not all those things.

Sarah: [Scoffs] No. This is just another con. Admit it. You've no idea where that diary is.

Xander: If you'll just give me a second...

Brady: What's going on here, huh?

Xander: Maggie, I'm so glad you're here. I have some very, very exciting news.

Seresto, seresto, seresto.

Nicole: Do you mind telling me why you're saying no?

Stefan: I have no interest reviving a company that's already failed.

Nicole: Hmm. Okay. I mean, I'd really hate to have to play this card, but you owe me.

Stefan: Excuse me?

Nicole: I don't blame you for holly's death the way that I blame chloe, but you swore that you would protect her, and yet those cartel thugs still got my daughter, and holly is dead. Nothing's gonna change that. Nothing's gonna bring her back, but, you know, if you have any conscience at all, you would grant me this little favor.

Stefan: Okay, first of all, giving you a company to run is a huge favor. Secondly, using holly to sway my decision one way or another is highly manipulative.

Nicole: Okay, well, I'm desperate. I need this, and if you think about it, you need me just as much, because it's no secret that dimera is being thrashed by titan.

Stefan: Victor kiriakis didn't hesitate to bring that to bring that to my attention earlier today.

Nicole: Yeah, well, victor is satan. It was awful being married to him.

Stefan: You were his wife?

Nicole: Yeah, for reasons I can't even understand, but there's something we have in common: Hating victor.

[Gasps] And wouldn't it be fun to bring that old bastard down together?

[Dramatic string music]

Kate: Hey. Care for some company?

Victor: Whatever.

Kate: [Scoffs] Well, you're in a mood.

Victor: I just got some very disturbing news.

Kate: Oh. Is it about will? I just left the hospital.

Victor: Believe me, your precious grandson is furthest from my mind.

Kate: You really are a son of a bitch, you know that? Do you realize that will only has days to live?

Victor: Uh, I haven't spoken to sonny since yesterday. I'm sorry. I didn't know. Can't seem to say anything right today.

Kate: What do you mean?

Victor: Never mind.

Kate: Ah. I get it. You found out that maggie got totally trashed, didn't you?

Victor: You knew?

Kate: Oh, yeah, I know. She came to my room, drunk as a skunk, and wanted to take me on.

Victor: About us?

Kate: Yeah, yeah. So I bet she had a horrific hangover this morning.

Victor: I wouldn't know. She just told me she had a relapse just before you arrived. I didn't handle it very well.

Maggie: What news?

Sarah: Ah! It's nothing, mom. Do not involve her in your sick games.

Maggie: Sarah, is there a problem?

Sarah: No, ma. It's xander just making a mess out of himself.

Maggie: That's not fair. Xander, I don't think I properly thanked you for last night. I really enjoyed our talk.

Xander: I did as well.

Sarah: Xander! Don't you have someplace to be?

Xander: I do, as a matter of fact. How are you feeling?

Maggie: Much better, thank you.

Xander: I'm glad to hear it.

[Uneasy music]

Sarah: Okay, that wasn't weird at all. What's going on with you and xander?

Maggie: He, um--he got me through a very difficult time.

Sarah: Xander cook?

Maggie: Mm-hmm.

Sarah: How could he possibly help you?

Brady: Uh, I should leave you two alone.

Maggie: Um, I-I could use your support, brady, if it's okay.

Brady: You got it.

Sarah: What's going on, mom?

Maggie: Uh... sweetie, I didn't go to the aa meeting for brady's sake. I went for mine.

Rex: But luckily, I was able to stop xander from absconding with holly's autopsy report and tampering with it.

Hope: So he could torture nicole? I shouldn't be surprised. Actually, I'm not surprised. The man doesn't exactly have a soul.

Rex: I mean, it's--it's just a theory, but I don't know any other explanation for him being in the lab at that time.

Xander: Little holly's on her way to her new home.

Ted: And all those people who loved her and think she died in an explosion? Xander, it's cruel. It's sadistic.

Xander: Exactly, and it's just the beginning.

Hope: To exploit holly's death by convincing nicole her daughter's really alive. Evil. My god, pure evil.

Ted: Yeah, it's terrible.

[Energetic music]

Xander: Who knew this diary would prove so valuable? But how to play it? Go for gold, and sell it to the highest bidder, or put it in sarah's sweet hand and score some major points?

Patients that I see that complain about dry mouth,

Victor: I just seem to say all the wrong things.

Kate: I think you're being too tough on yourself.

Victor: The idea of maggie drinking again is just-- it's intolerable. I think she's been sober since before we met. I don't know what-- don't know what to say. I...

Kate: Is she seeking help?

Victor: Brady took her to a meeting. Is that enough? Bunch of people sitting around, talking? I mean, will that do the trick, or we need something a little more drastic? I don't know. You--you went through this with lucas. Tell me.

[Tender music]

Kate: Lucas' last relapse was very raw. He fought intervention. He wouldn't accept help. He... he almost died before he decided that he wanted to get sober.

Victor: It's not very comforting.

Kate: Look, victor, maggie went to a meeting, which means that she wants to stop, and I think that's a good start.

Victor: Ah, with brady, i usually do the tough love thing: Shut him down, then throw him into rehab, but I'm not sure that's the right way to go with maggie.

Kate: No, I think you should proceed carefully. She's been through a lot. You don't want to send her over the edge again.

Sarah: You--you're drinking again? Oh, my god, mom. God, I'm so sorry. I should have been paying attention. It should have been me that was there for you, not some jerk like xander.

Maggie: It's not your fault. You know, the only one to blame here is me. It was burying holly, and... nicole blaming me for my grandchild's death. It was too much. It pushed me to the edge, and lucky for me, brady was there to help me, catch me.

Sarah: Thank you, brady.

Brady: No. Your mom has--has been there for me more times than I can count, and I was just returning the favor, honestly.

Sarah: So that meet that you told me was so important for your sobriety-- you were protecting my mom, and that's why you didn't want me to tell her the news before.

Brady: That's right. I thought it'd be best if... we waited until after the meeting.

Maggie: What are you two talking about?

[Melancholy music]

You're scaring me.

Sarah: I don't want to upset you any more, but... I'm afraid that I do have some bad news, and I can't put off telling you any longer.

Marlena: Eric, you can't give up on nicole. She'S...

Eric: She's grieving, I know.

Marlena: Yeah.

Eric: I keep telling myself the same thing, and giving up is the last thing I want to do, but she's made it pretty clear, repeatedly, that she wants nothing to do with me.

Marlena: Are you ready to accept that?

Eric: I--I really don't know what to think. Maybe I should accept it, stop fighting it. I really love nicole. Maybe I should leave her alone, give her some time to find some peace.

Marlena: Yeah. You could use some peace yourself. Um... I just--I wonder if you don't have to do that alone, you know? Maybe you could find a way with sarah.

Eric: Mom, sarah is marrying rex.

Marlena: Yes, well, maybe she shouldn'T. Maybe sarah wanted to be with you.

[Grave synth music]

Stefan: You're not gonna let this go, are you?

Nicole: Mm. It's one of my many talents you'll come to appreciate.

Stefan: Hmm. I am making some changes at dimera.

Nicole: So then this is the perfect time.

Stefan: I've offered abe carver the position of chief communications officer.

Nicole: Abe carver?

Stefan: Not a fan?

Nicole: Low blood sugar. Abe's great. In fact, he's my brother's father.

Stefan: But not your father, I take it.

Nicole: No. My father... wasn't upstanding like abe. So did he take the offer?

Stefan: Not yet.

Nicole: Well, I hope he does. I mean, your company does need new blood. You're smart to think that. Stefano, andre, kristen-- they're relics. You need to revitalize dimera with people like abe and me--well, especially me. So what do you say?

Stefan: All right. I surrender. Welcome to dimera.

Nicole: Hmm.

[Dramatic music]

Ted: Oh, the specials look great.

Hope: Yeah, they do.

Ted: You know what you're gonna have? Hope?

Hope: Hmm?

Ted: You okay?

Hope: No, I'm sorry. I just... I can't stop thinking about my cousin.

Ted: I understand.

Hope: I... I have to cut this short. I really--I just need to be with my family right now.

Ted: Of course, absolutely. Is there anything I can do to help?

Hope: No, um... but I'll let you know if there is.

Ted: Okay.

Hope: Bye. Sorry.

[Ominous music]

Ted: And I know exactly what I'm going to do to help. It might be the thing that prove myself to you.

Ted: Hey.

Xander: What are you doing here? We can't be seen together, remember? What if somebody else had answered the door?

Ted: Relax. I had a cover story ready. Don't worry.

Xander: Oh, really?

Ted: Yeah.

Xander: That's very clever. Goodbye.

Ted: I know-- I know you changed that autopsy report to make everyone believe holly was dead.

Xander: That was the whole point of the scheme. So what?

Ted: Well, I heard rex brady caught you. I just want to make sure there are no loose ends.

Xander: Don't worry. Loose ends are not my style.

Ted: How about that original report, the one that proved that holly didn't die? Please tell me. Did you destroy it?

Xander: It's safely tucked away from prying eyes. Now, get the hell out of here.

[Tense music]

Stefan: To the new ceo of basic black.

Nicole: Brought back from the dead, just like me.

Stefan: Hmm. Now, I hate to cut this short, but my lawyer's on his way for another matter. I'll have him start the paperwork, and I'll call you when it's done.

Nicole: Well, if it's all the same, I'll just wait.

Stefan: Might be a while, and I have to prep for the meeting.

Nicole: All right. I'll just make myself at home.

Stefan: All right then. If you'll excuse me.

[Suspenseful music]

Nicole: Because it is my home, little brother, and I am finally back where i belong.

Cheers.

Rex: I'm so sorry to interrupt. I assume you were talking about will.

Eric: Has there been any change?

Rex: I just saw his latest test results, and I'm afraid there's nothing promising to share.

Marlena: Alrighty then. Thanks for the update.

Rex: I'm--I'm sorry. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but we're not giving up. We're all working very hard to find this cure.

Eric: Thank you.

Marlena: Well... I'm so sorry. I hope he didn't hear us talking about you and sarah.

Eric: Let's just drop the subject for good, okay? I don't have a future with nicole, and I don't have one with sarah, either.

Maggie: I can't believe this is happening. First it's holly, and then will, and I-- I mean, he and sonny-- they were finally-- is there nothing, nothing that can be done?

Sarah: We were hoping that we could derive an antidote from rolf's formula.

Maggie: [Sighs]

Sarah: Unfortunately, the diary is missing, and we're trying our hardest to find another solution, but it-- it doesn't look good. Why are you back?

Xander: Oh, you--you told maggie about poor will.

Brady: This is none of your business, okay?

Sarah: Would you please leave?

Xander: Maggie, I'm so sorry. I know--I know how much you love will. I think I have something that will ease your pain.

[Disquieting music]

Hope: How's will?

Marlena: Oh, I was about to check on him. Uh, if he's awake, I'm sure he'd like to say hello to you.

Hope: I'll wait here, then.

Eric: All right.

Hope: Hey.

Eric: Hey.

Hope: How you doing, huh? Must be so overwhelmed.

Eric: Uh, that's kind of one word for it. I heard about you and rafe-- the divorce. I'm sorry.

Hope: Never thought it would be us, eric, and it is.

[Eerie music]

Nicole: I know what you're thinking, father. This is extreme, even for me, pretending to be poor, pathetic nicole walker and begging stefan for a job when by all rights, it should be the other way around. But it will all be worth it when I take rightful control of our family's company.

[Chuckles] Ah. This phoenix is rising again.

[Dramatic music]

Kate: To the promise of a miracle.

[Melancholy music]

Victor: Hope I don't have to stop drinking. That would be very difficult. I like my cocktails.

Kate: [Laughs] Oh, then you better drink up with me while you can.

Brady: Would you please give us some privacy?

Xander: I'm here to help.

Sarah: The last thing my mother needs is for you to upset her.

Maggie: It's all right, sweetie. Um... thank you for your concern, xander, but there-- there isn't anything anyone can do.

Xander: Oh, but there is.

Maggie: What's this?

Xander: Dr. Wilhelm rolf's diary. This could be the key to saving your beloved will.

Maggie: Oh! Oh! Oh.
