Episode #13543 ~ Ben searches for Claire. Claire tries to kill Trip and Haley. John tells Sonny about his suspicions of Eve. Eli breaks up with Lani.

Lani: No, I'm good.

Rafe: Are you sure? 'Cause I've got two fully functional arms to help you with.

Lani: You got the sling off.

Rafe: Yes, I did. I did. Yeah, the doctor gave me and the arm a clean bill of health. I still have to do a little rehab, but, uh... oh yeah, watch this.

Lani: Oh, oh.

[Both laugh] Impressive.

Rafe: Yeah, right?

Lani: You must be so relieved.

Rafe: Well, I'm sure you are too. I mean, now that my arm is finally healed, you can get on with your life.

Lani: Uh, wait, are you saying that you don't want me to help out with david anymore?

[Elevator dings]

Jj: Yeah, thanks, mom. I will call you if there's any changes. I love you too. Hey.

John: I got a text from doc asking me to come on down here. What's going on? Will have another setback?

Sonny: I'm afraid this time it's much worse than that.

Marlena: Will, I was looking at the overnight admissions, and I saw your name. Why didn't kayla call me?

Will: Well, because I asked her not to tell anyone.

Marlena: Honey, this is no time to go it alone. You need your family around you right now.

Will: You're right, I do. I, um... I just didn't know how to tell anyone.

Marlena: How to tell us what?

Will: I'm dying.

[Somber music]

Haley: Tripp, I know I've said this before, but you really don't have to follow through with this, okay? You're taking a huge risk, and I've already messed up your life completely.

Tripp: Well, then I might as well stick through to the end then, right? Look, it is my job to get you somewhere safe where jj can meet with you.

Haley: But it's not your job. And I'm not your problem anymore. I never was.

Tripp: It is my fault that you were caught. I started this whole mess with claire. And everything that has gone wrong is because of what i did to her.

Claire: Hey, guys.

Ciara: Hi.

Claire: Can I take your order?

Ciara: Okay. Um... I'm gonna do the all-american breakfast with, um, eggs over easy and a side of fried toast, please.

[Phone ringtone playing]

[Ominous tone]

Ben: I hear music.

Marlena: Music, are you sure?

Ben: Not a whole song... just... a few notes.

[Ringtone continues]

[Suspenseful music]

Claire: All right, look. I'm gonna go put your order in. I'll be right back.

Ciara: Ben? What is it?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Haley: This is not your fault, okay? I never should have accepted your proposal to begin with.

Tripp: Why not? It could've worked out. You know, if I'd only predicted what our little arrangement would do to claire, which i should have. I mean, I knew who claire was, that she's needy and insecure. And to think that she'd be okay with me marrying another woman-- no, it's only a matter of time before she did something extreme.

Haley: What about-- what about now? What-- what will claire do if she finds out that you're running away with me?

Claire: Oh! I am about ready to lose it, eve.

Eve: Well, how do you know that ben suspects you? Did he confront you?

Claire: Well, no, but you see I'm here on my shift at the cafe and ben is here with ciara. I overheard them talking.

Eve: Well, what did they say?

Claire: Well, ben is trying to convince ciara that I'm the one who did it. But luckily, ciara's saying that she doesn't believe him, and she's pushing him to let it go.

Eve: Well, that's good. That's good. That means that she's on your side.

Claire: But what if he doesn't let it go?

Eve: Why does he suspect you in the first place?

Claire: I don't know! I don't know, eve. I--ugh. I mean, he did catch me trying to light tripp's clothes on fire.

Eve: What? You tried to torch tripp's clothes? Why, claire?

Claire: I was upset! All right? I was very upset. But look, the point is, I--I covered it up very well with ben. Or... I don't know, I think I did. Oh, my god, eve--eve, what am I gonna do? I cannot get caught, I cannot get caught. Tripp is finally starting to forgive me.

Eve: Okay, just relax. All right? Um... just relax, and we'll deal with it.

Claire: Yeah? How?

Eve: By putting an end to this investigation once and for all. So I need you to bring me the lighter now.

Claire: Wh-what are you gonna do with it?

Eve: I'm gonna find a way to plant it on ben.

Ciara: Ben? What's going on? Ben, you look like you've seen a ghost. Is there something wrong?

Ben: Yeah. There's something very wrong.

Rafe: I'm always going to need some help with david. Maybe a babysitter now and then, but... now that I'm out of the sling, it wouldn't be fair for me to ask you to stay.

Lani: You didn't ask me.

Rafe: No, I know. But you got your own life, right? You've got your job to get back to. Oh, and by the way, I am sure that eli is more than anxious to have you back in the house. You do not need this little bugger right here cramping your style, right?

Lani: I have loved spending every second with david.

Rafe: Yeah, I know. I know. And we have loved having you, but...

Lani: He needs to be changed before he goes down for his nap.

Rafe: Lani. Okay. I got it.

[Baby cries] I got it, okay? Come on. Come on, buddy. Come on. Yeah. It's you and me, my man. See? Got this.

[Evocative music]

[Knocking at door]

Lani: Hey.

Eli: Hey.

Lani: What're you doing here?

Eli: Came to see you.

Marlena: Uh... I'm--hm. I need to talk to kayla.

Will: No, grandma, come on. I... she said it could be days. I promise you I'm not confused about that.

[Wistful music]

Marlena: Well... y-you said to me at one point that you didn't want your parents to know what was-- what was going on.

Will: Yeah, I was, um... holding out and hoping for a good prognosis. Um... but it seems like that's not gonna happen. Ow!

Marlena: What, what is it? What is it?

Will: Ah, my head...

Marlena: Come on, I'll get the nurse. I'll get the nurse. Take my hand. Squeeze it. Squeeze as hard as you can. I've got you. Okay, just keep squeezing. Nurse will be right here with something for the pain.

Will: [Exhales]

Marlena: Okay, keep breathing. Breathe deep, honey. Breathe through the pain.

Will: Grandma...

Marlena: Yeah.

Will: Will you call my mom?

Marlena: [Stammers] Yeah, sure. Yeah. I want you to rest, and then, uh... and then I'll-- then I'll call sami.

Will: [Whispering] Thank you.

Marlena: Keep breathing, honey. Keep breathing.

John: Can't believe that tumor progressed so quickly.

Sonny: And we thought it was good news when we found out that the tumor was benign, but... it just hasn't responded to the radiation. And they can't figure out how to stop it from growing.

John: I don't even know what to say. Damn. They really said that he's just got a couple days to live?

Sonny: Maybe less. It all goes back to rolf's formula. That damn antidote that will took to get his memory back.

John: Yeah.

Sonny: Now no one knows how to counter it.

John: [Chuckles] Yeah, nobody except good old rolf.

Sonny: If we get our hands on that quack's diary, then we might be able to stop the tumor and save will's life.

John: Yeah.

Sonny: What is it, john?

John: Uh... you know, I wasn't going to say anything about this until I knew for sure, but I, um... I came across a lead.

Sonny: A lead?

John: Yeah.

Sonny: You know where the diary is?

John: Well, no, not exactly, but I think, um... think I found someone who-- who might.

Sonny: John, if you know who has the diary, you need to tell me right now! It's our only hope to save will's life. I'm just a normal person

Lani: Rafe is putting david down for a nap.

Eli: I heard he had a doctor's appointment today. How'd that go?

Lani: He got the sling off. He'll also have to do some physical therapy, but sooner or later he'll be good as new.

Eli: Well, that's great news. And not only for rafe. I mean, now you won't have to feel like you need to come over here to help him out anymore.

Lani: Yeah, uh, you know, I-- I think I should stay a few more days just to help out with the transition. I really don't want david to feel like I'm abandoning him.

Eli: That's really nice, lani, but rafe's a grown man; I'm sure he can handle things on his own.

Lani: I'm just talking about a few days, eli. I don't see what the big deal is.

Eli: Because it's not a big deal to you, which says a lot about our relationship, if you can even still call it one.

Lani: Okay, that's not fair, eli. God. Why can't you understand? I just--I don't want to mess up david's routine.

Eli: You know what, lani? Stay as long as you want. All right? You've already made your choice, so now it's time for me to make mine. This relationship is over.

Tripp: Look, I made a promise to help you, and I'm not bailing on you now.

Haley: [Sighs] Yeah, but if claire was upset before, then she's really gonna freak if she finds out that you're here.

Tripp: I'm gonna get you out of the country. And as soon as you're safe with jj, then I'll head back home.

Haley: Why? Tripp, why have you risked so much for me?

Tripp: 'Cause you mean a lot to me. Not gonna stand by and watch you suffer.

Haley: Yeah, I... I really appreciate everything you've done and everything you're still doing.

Tripp: And I will never regret trying to help you. But I do regret how I treated claire. And I'm worried that this time I might've pushed her over the edge.

Eve: Just bring me the lighter, claire, now.

Claire: Eve, I'm still on my shift at the café. I can't just leave. My boss is gonna flip out and probably fire me.

Eve: Well, she's probably gonna fire you if you end up in prison, too.

Claire: Okay, uh, well, if I leave, then ben's gonna be even more suspicious.

Eve: Okay, fine. Then I'll come down there to you.

Claire: Wait, really? You're gonna come down here? Eve, be careful.

Eve: [Sighs] I will. You just stay calm, all right? And whatever you do, stay away from ben weston. You got it?

Claire: Okay, I'll try.

Ciara: Is it something that I need to worry about, ben? Something about us?

Marlena: Tell me some more about the music.

Ben: I--I don't know. I played ciara some music one my phone one night at the cabin. But I had my phone on me. And once that fire started, there's no way that ciara would be able to play music. I mean...

Ciara: Ben, tell me what's going on. You know you can talk to me about anything.

Ben: I know. And I appreciate that. I just, um...

Ciara: You what?

Ben: Just have a lot on my mind.

Ciara: Okay, well then, let me help you. Ben, if something is eating away at you, I want to know what it is. Whatever it is, I need to know. Please just tell me. Please.

[Foreboding music]

Claire: Okay... oh, my god! Sorry, sorry. Uh--

Rory: Watch where you're going.

Claire: Well, jeez. What-- wait a minute, sorry, you're-- jj's friend. You're rory. Right?

Rory: Uh-huh.

Claire: Hi, claire.

Rory: Oh, right, jj's cousin. The cute one, yeah.

Claire: Thank you. Um, look. I'm sorry that I bumped into you like that. I'm just very-- very scattered today.

Rory: You and me both.

Claire: Yeah.

Rory: I--I'd stay and hang, but I have to run.

Claire: Okay, here, let me get these for you. Wait, passports? Passports? Why do you have-- why do you have passports? Are these for jj and haley?

Rory: Don't--please don't touch those.

Claire: Wait, wait a minute. Tripp?!

Rory: I was--

Claire: What the hell?!

Rory: I was just doing a job for--

Claire: Is haley running away with tripp instead of jj?! (Woman) when you take align daily,

John: So, from the hospital security footage, we were able to see that eve snuck into seth burns's office after he had already gone home. She remained in his office by herself for three full minutes.

Sonny: So you think that she has rolf's diary?

John: I think it's a possibility, yeah. Timeline checks out, and she had a vested interest to keep that serum from jack.

Sonny: 'Cause if jack gets his memory back...

John: Oh hell, he'd leave her so fast, it'd make eve's head spin.

Sonny: I can't believe this. Did you confront her?

John: Of course I did. She denied everything. She said, "I went to see seth burns because I wanted to try to start up some sort of a foundation for paige."

Sonny: But you said she was in the office for three minutes when he wasn't there? That's--I mean, she's shameless.

John: That's a fact. I tried to appeal to her sense of decency.

Sonny: She didn't budge?

John: Sorry. And I think that if we're waiting for eve's conscience to kick in, we're gonna wait a hell of a long time. She's not gonna confess on her own.

Ben: Ciara, I--

Eve: Well, if it isn't our friendly neighborhood necktie killer.

Ciara: We're here to have something to eat, eve.

Eve: Oh, I'm sorry. I wouldn't want to interrupt your romantic date with a guy who murdered my daughter and nearly burned you alive.

Ciara: Why don't you just keep on walking, okay?

Eve: Enjoy your freedom while it lasts, ben. Because now that I'm the police commissioner, I'm gonna do every single thing in my power to lock you up for good.

Ciara: She cannot just do that. That's called harassment.

Ben: Just let it go.

Ciara: No. I can't just let it go, ben. It was bad enough when my mom was doing it. I'm not about to let eve ruin your life and mine.

Ben: Please just drop it, okay? Drop it. I know she's going to make my life difficult, but I cannot fight back; it's only gonna make it worse.

Ciara: Yeah? Well, I can.

Claire: So tripp and haley are running away together.

Rory: I--I really don't know.

Claire: Yeah, you were gonna bring these to them, weren't you?

Rory: That's not for me to s--

Claire: I mean, it's okay. It's okay. Like, really. I know all about this fake marriage, and I know all about jj trying to help haley.

Rory: Then why were you so upset about the passports?

Claire: Because I just--

[Scoffs] These plans keep changing on me, and if I'm gonna help these people out, I think i really need to be kept in the loop.

Rory: Amen to that. Um, I keep trying to help, and then when I think I have what they need, they change up the plans on me.

Claire: Mm-hmm. So, uh, how did you find out about tripp going with haley?

Rory: He texted me. Told me that jj was out of the picture, and that he needed new passports with his face on 'em.

Claire: Oh, visiting their father my ass...

Rory: What was that?

Claire: What? [Laughs] Nothing, nothing.

Rory: Hey, I--listen, I gotta run. Um, the ferry for smith island leaves in like ten minutes.

Claire: Smith is-- smith island? Uh, wait a minute. Uh, rory, the horton cabin?

Rory: I thought you said you knew about their plans.

Claire: No, I do, I do. I just, um... like I said, this plan keeps changing on me.

Rory: [Chuckles] Honestly, I just want this whole mess to be over with. I almost got thrown in jail because of this.

Claire: What? Oh, my god. That's awful. I'm so sorry. Hey, wait a minute. What if I just, like, took this off your hands?

Rory: Took what?

Claire: The passports, rory. Like, everything. Everything. Your job would basically be done. I mean, I could-- I could just take these to tripp and haley, and that would work out, because i wanted to say goodbye to them anyway before they took off.

Rory: You'd do that? Really?

Claire: Yes. 100%. And look, I don't want you to get in any more trouble with the police. You know, I heard that new commissioner's a real hardass.

Rory: Well, tell me about it. I'm lucky I got out of there when I did.

Claire: I mean, for all we know, cops could be watching you right now.

Rory: You think so? You're okay to go out there by yourself?

Claire: Oh, it's my family's cabin. Been there a million times.

Rory: Okay. Thank you. This is really generous of you.

Claire: [Giggles] What can I say? I'm a generous person.

[Tense music]

Haley: You are a good man, tripp. You don't need to beat yourself up over this.

Tripp: You know, when I first came to salem, I had so much anger in me. And I took it out on the wrong people. It was my dad and kayla that made me see how much goodness there is in this world, and i decided that I was going to help people the same way they helped me. But I let claire down.

Haley: Yeah, but she insisted that she was fine with our marriage.

Tripp: But I know her. I know her. I know how she gets up in her head and she lets the demons get the best of her. She gets paranoid and jealous.

Haley: Yeah. And so she recorded you and gave it to eve. She must've felt like that was her last chance to hold onto you.

Tripp: Yeah, but I almost understand why she did it. I've been to those dark places. I never want to go back, but I-- I don't want claire to go there either.

Haley: The girl has problems, tripp.

Tripp: I know. And I hope she gets help for those problems.

Haley: Would she even ever agree to do that? To see somebody for help?

Tripp: No, knowing claire, she'll probably just want to sweep all of this under a rug and pretend like none of this ever happened.

Haley: That's really sweet of you that you're still worried about her, even though you're not together anymore.

Tripp: You know, she's not a bad person. But... even though there's not a future between us, I want to see her get better. I hate that I hurt her; I really do.

[Melancholy music]

Eli: Oh, I think we've already been broken up. I was just the last one to see it. Lani, you're living with my partner! Taking care of someone else's baby, acting like it's yours!

Lani: Oh, my god.

Eli: "Oh, my god." Yeah, because you know that I'm right. He's not our david.

Lani: You think I don't know that?! Do you have any idea how insulting and hurtful it is for you to accuse me of trying to replace our son?

Eli: Lani, I'm not trying to hurt you. All right? I'm trying to help!

Lani: Oh, I get that. You made that very clear right from the beginning, right when I first started helping with david. You thought that the only reason why I cared about this baby was because I was trying to replace our loss, but that is not true, eli. I care about this baby because he is helpless and innocent, and he needs me. And you don't have to worry about me; I am doing just fine.

Eli: Well, I am worried, and I want to help you.

Lani: Well, I don't need your help or your armchair psychology. You made it very clear, eli. This relationship is done.

Eli: Lani, look, I'm sorry.

Lani: No, no. Just go, eli.

Eli: Sorry.

[Somber music]

Sonny: Hey. How's will doing?

Marlena: Well, he's in a lot of pain. I've asked the nurse to give him something.

Sonny: I should be in there.

Marlena: He's, uh-- he's dozing right now. Come on, just let him rest.

Sonny: I just want to sit with him. It's the only place I want to be right now. I want him to know that I'm there, even if he is sleeping.

Marlena: I understand. Let me know if you need to talk.

John: Sonny explained will's situation to me. I'm sorry, doc. Does sami know yet?

Marlena: No. No, uh... no. Will didn't want his parents to worry.

John: It's time they know. It's okay, sweetheart. I'm right over here with you. I'm right here.

Marlena: [Sobs]

[Suspenseful music]

Eve: Damn it.

Ciara: Why do you have to be so awful with him? Ben didn't set that fire in the cabin.

Eve: Really, and how do you know that?

Ciara: Because he told me.

Eve: Oh, he told you, right.

Ciara: Yes, he told me, and I believe him.

Eve: Well, you know what? I don'T. He's a liar and a murderer. And you know, come to think of it, he has a long history of doing that sort of thing. Didn't he try to set abigail and chad on fire in that very same cabin?

Ciara: Ben is not that person anymore.

Eve: Mm, really? Because everything I read seems to me like he's used the same lighter to start the fire.

Ciara: It's not true. It's a lie.

Eve: Oh. What about the fact that that lighter that looked like that one ended up in the loft where ben was living?

Ciara: Hmm. See, the place already looked at that lighter, and they deemed that there's no evidence linking it back to the fire in the cabin.

Eve: Oh, see, that was the old salem police department. There's a new sheriff in town. And just because your mother couldn't link that lighter back to the fire doesn't mean that I won'T.

Ciara: He didn't do it, eve. I'm not gonna let you railroad him the same way that my mom tried to.

Eve: Well, that's one thing that your mom and I have in common, ciara. Ben may be fooling you right now, but it's just a matter of time before you wake up, honey, and you realize that you are dating a monster.

[Ominous music]

Ben: You mind telling me where claire went?

Rory: Dude, chill. I don't even know who that is.

Ben: Just saw you talking to her.

Rory: What are you, her boyfriend or something, man? Get lost.

Ben: You're really gonna want to tell me what you know.

Rory: What the hell is your problem?

Ben: You don't recognize me?

Rory: No, what? Are you one of those, like, ninja warrior tools or something?

Ben: My name's ben weston. Now, do you remember who I am?

Rory: You mean the... you killed paige.

Ben: I did. But I got all the help I needed for that. They say I'm cured.

Rory: Are you?

Ben: Why don't you just tell me where claire went? It won't be an issue.

Claire: [Sighs] Lucky I caught the express ferry to smith island.

[Dark ambient music]

Claire: Lies. It's been nothing but lies. Jj was just there to throw me off track. But tripp's wanted this all along. He was never gonna give me a second chance. He doesn't love me. How stupid could I have been? They have been together under my nose this whole, entire time. Those lying bastards. (Announcer) do you push through migraine?

[Heart monitor beeping]

[Solemn music]

Sonny: This was supposed to protect you. Keep you safe. I know it's old folklore, but if there's any truth to it, I pray that it works now. Will... you have to keep fighting. I will too. I love you so much. If eve donovan has dr. Rolf's diary and doesn't come forward... she's the one that's gonna need protection.

Eve: [Sighs] Voicemail. Claire! Where the hell are you? I need the damn lighter now.

Ciara: That's weird. Where did ben go?

[Sighs]

Ben: I need to find claire. Now.

Rory: What are you gonna do to me if I don't tell you?

Ben: Why don't you just tell me where she went?

Rory: Why? So you can strangle her too?

Ben: No. But if you stand in my way, rory, I might just strangle you.

[Tense music]

Claire: Look at them all cozy. Laughing at me. I should just charge in there and confront them. They think they got away with it. That they can just make me look like a fool and run off together. [Scoffs] No, I'll let them know that they're not so smart. No. No, I can't, because they'll just deny it, and tripp will say I'm paranoid. He'll make me feel like a bad person for not wanting to help haley again. I could call the police. Get them both arrested again. That'll teach them a lesson. Or...

[Ominous music]

Rafe: [Grunts] Finally got him down for his nap but I need to learn some of your tricks. What's wrong?

Rafe: Oh yeah, thought i heard voices. What happened?

Lani: It doesn't matter now.

Rafe: Wow. Hey, hey. I'm sorry. Sorry about that. Uh, man...

Lani: I'm not.

Marlena: Sami, it's mom. I need you to call me back as soon as you get this. Do it right away. Um... it's important. We may not have much time.

[Dramatic music]

Eve: You know, claire, I dropped everything to come down to the café to help you. Now where the hell are you? I'm beginning to think that you're not stable, dear. So whatever you're doing, just call me as soon as possible before this whole thing starts spinning out of control.

Sonny: You have something I need.

Eve: What are you doing here, sonny?

Sonny: Either give me dr. Rolf's diary right now, or I promise you I will kill you.

Ciara: Rory?

Rory: [Exclaims] Ciara, wh-what's up, girl? It's been a while.

Ciara: Yeah. Yeah, it has.

Rory: Oh, I'm still single, fy--fi--wh--no, that's wrong. Um, fyi.

Ciara: Okay, dude, you seriously reek. Did you literally, like, just get high or something?

Rory: It's medicinal, man. It's for my anxiety. It's skyrocketing right now.

Ciara: Oh. I'm sorry to hear that.

Rory: Yeah. Do you want some? I have more.

Ciara: No, I'm good, I'm good. So why exactly is your anxiety skyrocketing?

Rory: You wouldn't believe me if I told you.

Ciara: Try me.

Rory: Well, the necktie killer? He just threatened to strangle me.

Haley: What's wrong?

Tripp: I wish I knew what was taking rory so long with passports.

[Suspenseful music]
