Episode #13542 ~ Claire realizes the walls are closing in on her. Ben comes to a shocking realization. Jack makes JJ a deal. Will and Sonny face Will's mortality.

Ciara: [Laughs] I'm sorry. I didn't know you were asleep.

Ben: [Sighs]

Ciara: Why didn't you come to bed?

Ben: I was having a nightmare.

Ciara: About what?

Ben: The fire.

[Phone ringing]

Haley: Was that claire again?

Tripp: Yeah, I'll explain everything to her when I get back to salem.

Jj: I'm sorry you--you missed the last ferry yesterday.

Tripp: Look, it's not your fault rory got himself busted, all right?

Haley: It did work out though. We got the fake passports.

Tripp: Look, okay, so you two head up to canada. I'll--I'll head back down to salem.

Jj: And a whole new life.

Tripp: [Sighs]

Haley: Where I don't have to be afraid of the law. I can't wait.

[Phone ringing]

Rory: When I do I get out of here?

Eve: When I say so.

Jennifer: Welcome to the new salem, rory.

Eve: You know, rory, I think I'm gonna leave you right here in this room with little jennifer horton. She's gonna tell you what to think and who to be, and I do believe that after some time, you are gonna be dying to tell me what I need to know. So have fun.

Rory: Wait, no. Wait, what--what does that mean? Hold on!

Jennifer: Rory. You've been such a good friend to jj. Don't give up on him now.

Jack: [Laughs] Wait a minute. You put rory and jennifer in there together?

Eve: Uh, yes, I did. But neither one will tell me anything about jj.

Jack: Still?

Eve: Rory hasn't gone this long without drugs since nursery school, so I figured with the combination between that and jennifer, well, maybe that'll make him a little more talkative.

Jack: I'm thinking what's needed here... is a little leverage. Make jennifer more talkative. How about this?

Eve: What?

Jack: Xander kiriakis testifies in court as a witness to jennifer beating on me.

Eve: Come on, jack. You don't think it's gonna go that far, do you?

Jack: Well, probably not, but jennifer doesn't know that, does she?

Eve: But how are you gonna get her to help you with jj? I mean, my guys interviewed her and they seem to think that she's telling the truth about not knowing where he is or how to reach him.

Jack: Well... fortunately, we don't need her help to settle that score.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

[Phone beeps]

[Phone line ringing]

Claire: [Sighs] Hi, tripp. It's me again. Um, sorry, I--I didn't leave a message last time, I just, uh... look, I'm-I'm here in the loft just trying very, very hard not to freak out right now. Uh, I'm just wondering why you didn't come home last night, and I want to know if you're okay. I mean, I thought that things were better between us, but even--even if they're not and even if you still completely hate me, I don't care. I just--can you please call me and let me know that you're okay?

[Knocking on door] Maybe that's you?

[Phone beeps]

Marlena: Hi, honey.

Claire: [Sighs] Grandma. Hi.

Marlena: I--I came by the bakery and they had those lace cookies you like so much. Huh?

Claire: Ciara sent you here. Didn't she?

Marlena: Why would ciara send me here?

Sonny: Hey, I picked up some bagels on my way over.

[Monitor beeping] What are you doing?

Will: Trying to come up with a lede.

Sonny: You're working?

Will: Can you get my computer from home?

Sonny: Are you kidding me?

Will: Just got off the phone, uh, with the guy who's filling in for jennifer.

Sonny: What's wrong with jennifer?

Will: Uh, she's in jail.

Sonny: Why?

Will: All I got was some-- eve's statement from the police, but it seems to me like it's a bunch of bull.

Sonny: Will, you--you can't take this on.

Will: This is a huge story, sonny. And it involves my family. This could be the last story that I ever write, so... it's gonna be a damn good one.

[Phone ringing]

Tripp: You're not supposed to be getting incoming calls.

Jj: I know, uh...

[Ringing continues] It's my mom.

Haley: How--how'd she get this number?

Tripp: Rory, maybe?

Jj: I have to answer it.

[Phone beeps] Mom?

Jack: Actually, it's me, jj. How's it going?

Ciara: You probably dreamed about the fire because we were arguing about it last night. But, uh... I just--I can't believe that claire's the one who set it. I'm sorry.

Ben: I know her dad is your brother. This would really suck for your family.

Ciara: No, it's not that. I mean, it's not just that. When I took her that figurine we had a really, really good talk. And besides, claire does things like rig contests and try to steal my boyfriends, but she wouldn't do something like try and kill me. That is totally out there. Deep down I know that she and i really love each other.

Ben: Hmm. You don't know how bad I hope you're right.

Ciara: Hmm.

Ben: [Sighs] I called dr. Evans. I'm having another session.

Ciara: You're getting hypnotized again?

Ben: Ciara, I have to remember everything that I saw and heard that night.

Ciara: But ben, I thought you agreed that you would drop it?

Ben: No, I can't just drop it, ciara. This fire almost killed you and there's people still out there who think I still did it.

Ciara: Okay, I get that. I really do, but I just--i don't think you're gonna have any luck trying to prove that it was claire.

Marlena: Why would you think that ciara sent me?

Claire: 'Cause she's worried about me.

Marlena: Well... I'm a little worried about you too. You've been so upset lately. Wanna tell me what's going on?

Claire: Well, tripp broke up with me. And I love him. Very much. But I definitely don't think i need a shrink because it's normal to feel a little bit crummy when your heart is broken. Right?

Marlena: Right. I'm so sorry.

Claire: Yeah, I know. Me, too. But...

[Laughs] Surprise, surprise.

[Sniffs] It's all my fault because I did something awful and terrible and stupid. You know that--that tripp only married haley so that she could get a green card, right?

Marlena: I do know that.

Claire: Right, well, of course you do. The whole world knows by now.

Marlena: Yeah. So what happened between you and tripp?

Claire: Okay, so all throughout this awful plan of theirs to save haley from being sent back to china... tripp kept telling me that he--he still loved me very much, but until ice believed that their marriage was real... we could not be seen together.

Marlena: Oh.

Claire: So I had to move out of here.

[Laughs] Can you imagine that? I was... literally kicked out of my own home.

Marlena: That must have been so painful for you.

Claire: Yeah, well, "painful" does not begin to describe it.

[Sniffles] No. I was--I was rejected. Insulted. Yeah, I don't think I've ever been so hurt in my life, to be honest. And it wasn't just me overreacting, either, 'cause even ciara agreed that... it was totally unfair for tripp to marry haley without thinking about what it would do to me.

Marlena: Did you do something to--to get back at him?

Claire: Why would you accuse me of that?

Marlena: I'm not accusing you of that. You just said that you--you had done something that you shouldn't have. Honey? What did you do that you shouldn't have?

[Monitor beeping]

Will: Oh, this is driving me crazy.

Sonny: What is it? What's wrong?

Will: I--I know the word that I want to say but I cant'--i can't think of it. It's T... travesty. Travesty. You know, this would be a lot easier if I had my computer.

Sonny: [Sighs] Can I talk now?

Will: Sure.

Sonny: What you said earlier about this being your last story... I don't want to hear that.

Will: Well, I need to be able to say it, sonny. The tumor in my head is growing and the doctors don't know how to stop it. Remember, um, how happy we were when we thought it wasn't malignant? Who knew it was gonna turn into the hulk hogan of tumors? Anyway, um... sonny, I--can you get my computer? Kayla said it could be a matter of days, and I need to file this as soon as possible.

Sonny: Why don't you give me your pad and I can, uh... I can help you.

Will: Yeah?

Sonny: Yeah.

[Clears throat] So, uh... why is jennifer in jail?

Will: Um, for assaulting her ex-husband, the mayor. Um... damn, I can't--yeah.

Sonny: Jack deveraux?

Will: Yes, yes.

Sonny: Okay, and why did she assault him?

Will: Uh, because he and his new wife, the, um... the boss of the police--

Sonny: The police commissioner.

Will: Yes, yes. Uh, they are--are looking for jack and jennifer's son,

Both: Jj.

Will: Yes, I know that. You don't--you don't gotta tell me everything.

Sonny: Okay, I'm sorry. Well, maybe you could, uh, think about writing something... where there's less to remember.

Will: Hmm. Like what? My will?

Rory: Look... jj's a good guy and all, but... I haven't seen him in years and--and you don't care what happens to me. You used to hate my guts.

Jennifer: No. That's not true, rory. I don't hate you. I--I care about you, and I know how loyal you have been to jj, and I'm trying to think of a way to help you. I mean, maybe I can compensate you in some way for--

Eve: Oh, goody. Now we can add bribery to your long list of charges, jennifer.

Jj: That's a cute trick, using mom's phone.

Jack: The reason I have her phone is because it was confiscated from her... when she was being booked.

Jj: "Booked"? What the hell are you talking about? Booked for what?

Jack: Your mother hit me over the head with a laptop.

Jj: And what did eve do? Throw the book at her?

Jack: When jennifer knocked me out, there was a witness. And because I'm a public official, that's a felony. She also helped tripp escape with the phony passports. That's aiding and abetting a fugitive. This is serious, jj. You know that. Your mother could end up behind bars for years and years. She's in a lot of trouble because she tried to help you. That makes you the only who can help her out now.

Jj: Why don't you just tell me what you want?

Jack: It's really very simple. You come back here with haley, turn yourselves in... and I'll make sure those charges against your mother are dropped.

Jj: That is blackmailing, you son of a bitch.

Jack: That's my final offer. You get back here soon, or your mother will suffer the consequences.

[Phone beeps]

[Phone beeps]

[Dramatic music]

Ciara: Okay, so after marlena hypnotized you, what happened? Did--did you remember seeing claire that night?

Ben: No. I would have told you if I saw her.

Ciara: Okay, so is that why you want another session? Because you got nowhere?

Ben: No, I want another session because I remembered something new.

Claire: Well, um...

[Sniffles] I am the one who made the recording that eve used to expose tripp and haley's marriage as a fraud.

Marlena: Oh, claire.

Claire: I'm sorry! I'm sorry, okay? I really am. I--I know I screwed up haley's life, but just think--think about what she was doing to mine.

Marlena: I don't think that she was intentionally trying to, as you say, "screw up your life." I think they were trying to keep haley from being deported, and I don't think that tripp cheated on you.

Claire: Okay, well, that's exactly what it felt like he was doing. It felt like it was all about what haley wanted, and to hell with claire, you know? It felt like haley was this big movie star. Like she was the center of attention. The character that everybody was rooting for. And then tripp was like the leading man, you know? He was the--the handsome, noble guy that everybody loved, and he was just gonna come and sweep haley off her feet and rescue her. And then me, grandma, I was like the--I was just the annoying girlfriend who was messing everything up.

Marlena: You know, I'm--I'm concerned. I'm concerned... that your self-esteem is so fragile here that you could think that your friends would actually let you down.

Claire: I'm just trying to make you understand why I did what I did.

Marlena: I think you're trying to justify what you did.

Claire: [Sniffles] Just--no, no, no, grandma. I'm trying to explain why I did what I did. I'm not proud of anything.

[Stammers] I hate myself. I hate myself for what I did.

Marlena: You don't have to hate yourself. I--I think that-- I think that put you in a very uncomfortable position.

[Tense music]

I love you. You know that? And... we should have been talking this whole time.

Claire: I know. I know, I was just scared what you would think of me. But I'm really glad I told you everything.

Marlena: You know that i would never judge you.

Claire: [Soft laugh]

Marlena: It must have been so uncomfortable, being around tripp this whole time.

Claire: Mm-hmm. Well... last night he--he kind of started acting like he might forgive me. And then...

Marlena: And then what?

Claire: Well, he left and he hasn't come back, and he hasn't returned any of my phone calls or any of my texts. He's just ghosting me, so i guess he changed his mind.

Marlena: Honey... don't make assumptions.

Claire: Oh, come on. Why else would he stay away?

Jj: My dad says that... if we don't go back to salem he'll make sure my mom goes to prison. He was in his glory. I... I can't believe that he's doing this to her. After everything else.

Tripp: What are you gonna do?

Jj: I don't know yet.

Haley: I do. I will not be the reason that your mom goes to prison. We have to go back.

[Door opens]

[Phone ringing]

[Door closes]

Jack: I have some news that you might be interested in. I just talked to jj.

Jennifer: What?

[Stammers] Is he okay? How--how did you find him?

Jack: Well... when rory was supposed to be calling his lawyer, I listened in on the extension.

Jennifer: Don't you think it's illegal to listen to a suspect's call to his lawyer?

Jack: Yes, but he wasn't calling his lawyer, was he? In addition, he called on a police phone, so we were able to trace the exact number.

Rory: Man.

Jack: Thank you, rory, for your gross ineptitude. Thank you. You'll be happy to know that jj is in good shape and hopefully coming home soon. For your sake.

Jennifer: What do you mean, "for my sake"?

Jack: Well, I told our son that if he didn't come back here with haley, that his mom is going to statesville.

Jennifer: You used me as a bargaining chip, jack?

Jack: I did to get our son home. Yes, I did.

Jennifer: Haley is going to be deported, and our son is going to face charges, jack.

Jack: I'll get those dropped as long as he keeps up his end of the bargain.

Jj: I won't let you be deported. Not when we are this close to getting you out of the country. But I--I can't have my mom pay the price for what I am doing.

Haley: Of course you can'T.

Tripp: Your--your old man's bluffing, all right? He never means anything he says.

Jj: Well, he could be, but he has my new phone number. He can use that to track our movements.

Tripp: Aren't burner phones supposed to make that impossible anyway?

Jj: It takes a while, but cops have ways. I think it will be better... it will be better for everyone... if I turn myself in.

Haley: No. Humira patients, you inspire us.

Jj: I will go back to salem and you will go to canada without me.

Haley: No! No!

Jj: I am--I am not going to let you lose this chance at freedom.

Haley: But your dad wants me!

Jj: You haven't--you haven't heard the whole plan. I'm asking a lot... but if I give you the money and the passports, can you get haley across the border? Then, once haley is in canada, you can come back. I will get everything squared away with my mom, and then I will fly up to be with you.

Haley: I'll do this alone, tripp. You've already done too much for me.

Tripp: I--I'm not bailing now, all right? Not when you're so close, all right? What they--what they've done to you? This sucks and it's driving me nuts, but you deserve to be happy. Both of you do.

Jj: I owe you, man.

Haley: [Gasps] I don't know what to say, jj.

Jj: Hey. Not goodbye. That's for damn sure. I'll see you on the other side.

[Tragic music]

Ben: When I was on my way back to the cabin... before I even saw that it was on fire... I heard music playing.

Ciara: Are, uh...

[Clears throat] Are you sure that this was a real memory, ben? I know, I just... you had been off your meds for a while at that point.

Ben: Yes, but I took them as soon as I had the prescription filled at the pharmacy. I was fine by the time I got back to the cabin. This sound--this sound, it just... so familiar, I just--I can't place it.

Ciara: Okay, well, how did it go? Maybe I heard it too.

Ben: It was like...

[Humming]

Ciara: I am so sorry to break this to you, but you are seriously tone deaf.

Ben: So I--I take it you don't recognize the song?

Ciara: No. Hum it again, maybe?

[Laughs]

Ben: [Sighs]

Claire: Oh, you--you agree with ciara, don't you? Yeah, you think that I'm totally screwed up and that I need a shrink.

Marlena: You know me. I think everybody can benefit from therapy. Isn't that one of the figurines that maggie collects?

Claire: Uh, yes. Yes, that's actually maggie'S.

Marlena: Really? What's it doing here?

Claire: I had a pretty bad scene with tripp over at pop-pop's and I, uh... took it out on the shepherdess. And I feel awful about it. I feel awful. Luckily, ciara put it back together for me and glued it. She's really good at stuff like that.

Marlena: Well, how lucky. Claire, I'm a little concerned that you would destroy something that meant so much to somebody else.

Claire: Okay, well, I'm so sorry that it concerns you, but just think about where I was coming from. I was beside myself. I was hurt, humiliated, rejected, you name it. Whatever. Anyway...

[Laughs] I'm--I'm very grateful for ciara because she has been amazing since tripp married haley. She just sees my side and... I mean, not that I deserve any of that after what happened with... the contest. Theo. Tripp.

Marlena: You've had feelings for tripp for a long time, haven't you?

Claire: Yeah.

Marlena: You know, um... you said once that when ciara took off on a motorcycle and went missing... perhaps it was because she saw you and tripp together.

Claire: Yeah, I know.

Marlena: And--and you wondered at the time if... maybe, subconsciously, you were trying to hurt her.

Claire: Grandma, I need to tell you something.

Claire: You have to promise me.

[Phone chiming] Hold on.

[Phone ringing] Oh, my god, it's tripp. Uh, tripp? Hi, hi. What's going on?

Tripp: Hey, uh, I'm sorry that I didn't call you sooner but the call I got last night? It was from my dad.

Claire: Oh, no kidding?

Tripp: Yeah, yeah. Isa stuff. But a lot of stuff, I can't talk about it to anybody. But long story short, I'm gonna go visit him for a few days.

Claire: Wow, okay. Uh, well, that's great. I mean, I--I know how much you miss him.

Tripp: Yeah, I do. I just wanted to call and let you know--and to ask a favor. Could you, uh, cover my shift at the café this morning?

Claire: Yes, of course.

Tripp: So I'll see you in a few days?

Claire: Sure. Bye. Ooh!

[Laughs] What a relief! Wow, um, I feel so much better. So much better. Uh...

[Laughs] I-I'm sorry I have to run out on you like this but tripp needs me to cover his shift at the café.

Marlena: Ah. You know, before the phone rang you were about to tell me something.

Claire: Yes, uh... look, I'm--I... I didn't really want to hurt your feelings, but I'm actually off lace cookies now. So, um, I'm sorry you went through all the trouble of buying them and bringing them over here.

Marlena: Claire. You were not about to talk about the cookies.

Claire: No, I mean--really, that's it. You have helped me so much, and I feel all the way better. So thank you, but I--I'm sorry, I really do have to get going because our boss is gonna flip out if tripp is not there and there's no one there to cover his shift.

Marlena: Well, I've gotta get to work. I'll walk with you.

Claire: Mm-hmm, okay.

Marlena: Claire. That ringtone. I--I've heard a lot of ringtones, but I don't think I've heard that one.

Claire: Oh, because it's my own original composition, actually. Uh, that way when it rings i know that it's my phone and nobody else'S.

Tripp: There's no way I'm gonna look like jj even in a disguise, so I'm gonna need a new passport before we take off. Maybe you, too.

Haley: Which is kind of a problem.

Tripp: Yeah, but if we can manage it, it'll be a huge advantage, all right? Jack has already seen the passports we have now, so if we can get new ones made they won't be able to track us.

Jennifer: That's fine. While you're trumping up all these charges against me, why don't you just add assault to it, jack?

Jack: Assault? What are you--

Jennifer: Because I hit you on the head with my laptop. You know why? Because you deserved it.

Jack: I deserve it? I was trying to--

Jj: Hey, guys.

Jennifer: Jj. Hey.

Jack: Handcuffs?

Jj: Are you that scared of a little tiny woman? I am so sorry about all of this.

Jack: Where's haley?

Jj: Not here.

Jack: I told you.

Jj: And how dumb do you think I am? I am not telling you anything about haley until all of the charges against mom are dropped.

Jack: We had an agreement.

Jj: This is between you and me. Get mom out of the middle of it or I'm not saying a word. I wanted more from

Eve: Your court-appointed attorney has dropped the charges, so you're free to go. I said, you are free to go.

Rory: When do I get my weed back?

Eve: Oh, my god, rory, just get the hell out of here.

Rory: Aren't I supposed to sign something, or--

Eve: How the hell am i supposed to know? I--

[Phone ringing]

Rory: Don't you think you should be getting that?

Eve: Just get out of here! Come on, get out of here!

Rory: All right!

Eve: [Groans] Oh! What?

Jack: The charges against you have been dismissed.

Jj: With prejudice.

Jack: That's what you wanted, isn't it?

Jennifer: What does that mean?

Jj: It means you can't be charged again.

Jack: You're free to go. Officer, do your thing.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Jack: I met your terms. Where's haley?

Jj: Go to hell.

Jack: We had an agreement.

Jj: I lied.

Will: What do you think i should do, then? How do you think I should--i should best use the time that i have left?

Sonny: Well, I'm the only one who knows what kayla told you last night. The other people who love you deserve to know.

Will: I don't--I don't care! I'm the one who's dying, okay? We do this my way. I... I'm--I'm sorry. I'm--I'm yelling at you.

Sonny: No, no, no. You're angry, okay? I get that. It's okay.

Will: But I'm not angry at you. I'm angry at this thing in my head because it's changing the way I think. It's changing the way I act. I'm not just gonna die. I'm gonna die acting like a jackass.

Sonny: No, that's not what you're doing.

Will: Yes, it is. I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at the idea of leaving you. Of leaving our daughter. Of leaving my family. I--I fought so hard to get back to them.

[Monitor beeping softly]

Marlena: Why didn't somebody tell me you're--

[Sharp exhale] I'm so sorry. Uh, I'll come back later.

Will: No, no, um... please stay.

Ciara: [Sighs] I get that you want to figure out who set that fire. I really do. I just... I can't believe that it's claire.

Ben: I know.

Ciara: Go see marlena. Go do whatever you have to do, but please just stop trying to make it be claire. Please.

Ben: I'll try.

[Tense music]

Sonny: I'll leave you two alone.

Marlena: Thank you, sonny.

[Monitor beeping softly] I was checking the overnight admissions and I saw your name, and I was wondering why kayla didn't call me.

Will: Well, um, because I-- I asked her not to.

Marlena: Really? 'Cause I would think that right now is when you need your family and friends the most.

Will: That is true. You are right, as usual. Um, I just--I didn't know... how to tell everybody.

Marlena: Tell us what?

Will: [Sighs] I am dying... and kayla says it could be a matter of days.

[Phone beeps]

[Phone line ringing]

Claire: Hi, eve? Eve, it's claire. Look, you need to call me as soon as you get this. I know you told me to sit tight, but I cannot do that. You are gonna need to pin that cabin fire on ben, and you need to do it now.

Tripp: So who do we know that can make us fake passports?

Haley: [Sighs] Well, melinda might be able to help. She feels really guilty about me.

Tripp: Yeah, but I don't trust her.

Haley: Yeah, me neither. Um... what about claire? She's--she's dying to get rid of me, so--

Tripp: No, I told her I was with my dad. Ciara?

Haley: She'd want to do it, but I feel like she'd probably ask ben for help, and-- I don't know, that just makes me nervous.

Tripp: Uh, well, here, I'm gonna see if I've heard from jj. Rory's been released. Look, I know it's risky reaching out to him again, but...

Haley: What other choice do we have?

[Tense music]

Jack: You lied to me.

Jj: What a disappointment i must be to a stand-up guy like yourself. I will never turn my back on haley. Not now... not ever.

Jack: That's too bad. Cuff him.

Jennifer: Are you kidding me? Jack!

[Cuffs clicking]

Jack: He made his choice. He can suffer the consequences.

[Cuffs clicking] Your mother may be free... but you're not going anywhere.

[Cuffs clicking]

[Phone beeps]

Claire: Hi, eve? Eve, it's claire. Look, you need to call me as soon as you get this. I know you told me to sit tight, but I cannot do that. You are gonna need to pin that cabin fire on ben, and you need to do it now.

Eve: [Growls] Did not need this today, claire. Not today.

[Suspenseful music]

Claire: Hey, guys. Hi, uh, can I take your order?

Ciara: Okay, um... I'm gonna do the all-american breakfast with, um, eggs over easy and a side of fried toast, please.

[Phone chiming]

Ben: I hear music.

Marlena: Music? Are you sure?

Ben: Not a whole song. Just... a few notes.

[Phone chiming]

Right. Yeah I'll definitely
