Episode #13533 ~ Claire blames Eve for Tripp breaking up with her. Ben has a tense run-in with Eve. Jack makes a surprising move with his first appointment as mayor. JJ and Haley enlist Tripp's help to evade the authorities

Ciara: Morning.

[Sighs]

Ben: Is everything okay? You were tossing and turning all night.

Ciara: Yeah. I just... I had a pretty disturbing dream about claire. It must have been because of what happened yesterday.

Ben: What happened yesterday?

Ciara: Oh, um, well, tripp broke up with her. Yeah, and it sort of sent her over the edge.

Ben: Hm.

[Knocking at door]

Eve: Coming. Just a minute.

[Groans]

[Banging] Okay, okay. Hey, claire, how's it going?

Claire: Mm. Just horribly. Not that you care.

Eve: Well, of course I care. Honey, I thought you'd be over the moon now that haley's gone.

Claire: Mm, yeah, haley's gone, all right. So is tripp. Mm-hmm, he dumped me, eve. And guess what. It is all your fault!

Eve: [Exhales]

Tripp: What's up?

Eli: I'm trying to track down jj and haley.

Tripp: Yeah, crazy how they just took off like that.

Eli: I'm sorry, but I gotta ask you. Did you know they were planning to run? And do you have any idea where they went?

[Tense music]

Lani: David went down for his nap early. I think he may be getting a new tooth. What's that?

Rafe: These, these are my divorce papers. Hope signed them, so, uh, soon as they're filed, I will be officially divorced.

Lani: I'm really sorry, rafe.

[Knocking at door]

Rafe: I'll get it.

[Unlocking door]

Jack: Detective hernandez, may I come in?

Rafe: Sure.

Jack: Um, my son ran off with haley chen last night before she could be deported, so instead of you being stuck here lounging around, I want you to get out there and find jj before the feds do.

Rafe: Okay, yeah, well, here's the thing. You're not my boss and hope is. And I've been suspended.

Jack: Oh, oh, well, hope is not your boss anymore. I fired her.

Rafe: What? Wait, you can't do that. You're not even mayor yet.

Jack: Oh, well I'm going to fire her as soon as I'm sworn in later today.

Lani: That's nuts. Why?

Jack: Uh, well, hope made it clear that she couldn't support me, so I made it clear that she'd be relieved of her duties. I suggest that you bear that in mind, detective price--unless you're going to quit out of loyalty to your father, the soon-to-be ex mayor.

Lani: I'm not quitting.

Jack: Good.

Rafe: So, who's the new commissioner?

Jack: Oh, I haven't appointed one yet, but I'm thinking it should be you.

Haley: [Groans softly] You don't have to sleep in the chair.

Jj: I actually just got back.

Haley: From where?

Jj: When I was as cop, I, uh, learned a few things about how to stay in front of a manhunt. Ditch the car. Got a burner phone.

[Groans] Got some breakfast. It's just donuts. Didn't have a lot of cash on me when we took off. Can't use a credit card right now.

Haley: I don't really have an appetite.

Jj: Well, we have to eat and run anyway. There's an apb out. They set up a tip line.

Haley: Oh, my gosh. The cops are closing in?

Jj: No, no, no, no, haley, i just--I just meant we can't stay here long.

Haley: Wh--where are we supposed to go? We didn't think this through. We didn't think this through. We just--we just ran and now we have no--no car, no money, just have that bag tripp packed me.

Jj: It's going to be okay.

Haley: No, no, jj, it's not. I think we made a terrible mistake.

[Soft orchestration]

Ciara: Claire has been through so much ever since tripp agreed to marry haley, and he just dumps her? I'm sorry, but I think that's just cruel.

Ben: Hm. Then why did he do it?

Ciara: [Scoffs] Let's just say that claire did something very stupid because she was feeling desperate and vulnerable.

Ben: Shocker.

Ciara: Yeah. Yeah. But the least tripp can do is be a little more understanding, considering how much he's asked of her.

Ben: Surprised you're being so understanding. After everything claire did--i mean she practically tried every trick in the book to keep you and tripp apart.

Ciara: Yeah. True, but claire's family and she's hurting. And I just--I want to put it past us. Plus, you know, claire actually ended up doing me a favor. Because obviously tripp and i were not meant to be.

Eve: All right, sweetheart. Have a seat. Here's you some water. Honey, you just gotta calm down, okay, and just tell me what happened.

Claire: Tripp found out that I was behind the recording. You know, the recording where he admitted that his marriage to haley was fake.

Eve: Mm-hmm. How'd he find out?

Claire: Because you blackmailed haley in front of jj. So he then told tripp that that was the only reason haley confessed, and tripp got very suspicious. Then he confronted me.

Eve: Well, then you deny, deny, deny.

Claire: I did, eve! I tried! All right, and he just kept pushing and pushing! I told him that I only did it because I loved him and I didn't wanna lose him! And then he was just so angry, and he kept saying that i destroyed haley's life and that that he never wanted to be with me again.

Eve: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.

Claire: Stop it! You're not sorry, eve!

Eve: I am sorry.

Claire: You're not sorry, no, 'cause you promised me that these recordings would be the answer to our prayers, but they weren'T. No, you used me to get what you wanted, and now I have nothing.

Eve: No, claire.

Claire: I told you--I told you, eve, that I did not know how to use these recordings without blowing up my future with tripp, and you know what you said? You told me to trust you.

Eve: Yes.

Claire: You promised me that I would get him back and you lied.

Eve: Okay, no, you need to calm down.

Claire: Calm down? Really? Calm down? Don't you dare tell me to calm down! Do you know what happens when someone treats me like dirt, eve? Hm? I get very, very angry. And you know what happens when i get very angry, right?

Calling all sunscreen haters.

Haley: Maybe we should just go back to salem. We'll go back to salem and I'll turn myself in.

Jj: No, we are not going back. Haley, I will not let you get deported.

Haley: Jj, listen to me, okay? If we get caught, you'll go to prison. I'm not gonna let that happen. I can't!

Jj: Listen. You need to listen to me, okay? You need to trust me. We can make ourselves disappear, okay? Hey. All we need is a little help.

Rafe: I don't want hope's job, and like lani said, you shouldn't have fired her in the first place.

Jack: But it's a done deal, detective. It's do--now I understand the situation may be delicate--

Rafe: I don't want her job. Not this way.

Jack: Think about it, please. Just think about it before you give me your final answer. Wouldn't he make a great boss?

Jack: So please just think about it, take your time. I don't have to make the announcement until later on today, but hope's gone either way, so... if it's not you, it will be someone else.

[Suspenseful music]

Ciara: Claire and I aren't just family. We used to be best friends, and I would really, really like to get back to that. It felt really nice to be there for her, you know?

Ben: Yeah. Can you really forget about everything you guys went through though? I mean, claire rigging the bella contest and... teaming up with me to--

Ciara: To break up tripp and me, yes, yes, I know, and i forgave her for that. And you know that I more than forgave you for that.

[Chuckles] Tripp and I weren't a good match, and you know what, to be honest, I don't think claire is really right for him either.

Ben: You think? I wouldn't mention that to her, but--

Ciara: Don't worry, I won'T.

Ben: Deal.

Eve: Claire. I know that you're upset, but there is no need to do anything rash.

Claire: Oh, what's wrong, eve? Are you scared that I'm gonna light you on fire too?

Eve: No, I'm not scared that you're gonna light me on fire.

Claire: [Stammers] Tell tripp that it is not my fault that haley got deported. You're gonna tell tripp that you forced me to record us, eve.

Eve: [Sighs]

Claire: I'm so sorry. Wow, am I keeping you from something?

Eve: No, I just--jack is being sworn in as mayor today, that's it.

Claire: Oh, okay, so in other words, you can't be bothered with me...

Claire: Now that I've done your dirty work.

Claire: Wow. You know, I, um, I actually thought that you cared about me. And I actually thought that you were on my side. Nobody's on my side. No, I am... I am all alone.

Claire: Yeah.

Tripp: Sorry, man. I have no clue where jj and haley went.

Eli: And you haven't heard from them?

Tripp: Nope.

Eli: All right. Hey, I mean it, all right? Trust me, it'd be a lot better with us bringing them in than ice. If you hear from them, you'll let me know? What's up?

Eli: You sure about that? Things are bad.

Ciara: I am actually on my way to talk to rafe about you spending more time with david. And I am so sorry that it's been dragging on so long.

Ben: It's not your fault. You went over there if I could spend some more time with my nephew and lani told you that the baby was sick and that they'd be spending the day inside.

Ciara: Mm-hmm, which is obviously a lie because later on we saw the three of them leaving the pub together.

Lani: What do you think about jack's job offer?

Rafe: I think it would mean walking into a minefield.

Lani: Because of all the baggage with hope?

Rafe: [Snickers] Yeah, that and working for jack deveraux. It would be a total nightmare.

Lani: Well, what about working for whatever crooked cop he'll hire if you don't take it?

Rafe: Yeah.

Lani: I mean, at least we would know that you're one of the good guys. In any case, it looks like you're not suspended anymore. It's just a question of whether you're coming back as a cop or the new commissioner.

Rafe: Hm. Well, if I did come back as commissioner, finding jj could be my first case.

Lani: I can't believe he's on the run from ice. I really do hope they're okay.

Rafe: Yeah. I just wonder if jack would let me do my job by the book.

Lani: What do you mean?

Rafe: Well, I mean jack is obviously gunning for haley chen. Jj is his son though, so, you know, he's gonna want me to bend the rules and break them, and i just don't know if I wanna work for a guy like that.

Lani: It's a big decision.

Rafe: Yeah.

Lani: But whatever you decide, I got your back. I'm gonna go check on david.

Rafe: All right.

Eve: What do you think?

Jack: I think every man in salem is gonna wish you were his first lady.

Eve: Oh, you're the best, jack. So rafe take the job?

Jack: Not yet. He's thinking about it, so...

Jack: I think we better get a plan B.

Eve: Hm.

Jack: We cannot fire hope unless we have somebody else lined up, and the list of qualified candidates is extremely short.

Eve: Well, a toddler would be better at the job than hope brady, that's for sure.

Jack: Still, the vetting process, that's what takes so long.

Eve: Yeah.

Jack: You know, what if... what if nobody wants to work for me?

Eve: Jack. You were popular enough to win this election. It's only gonna get better from here. Starting today this power couple is taking over salem.

[Both chuckling]

Haley: You think tripp will call us back.

Jj: Yeah. Yeah. He just can't talk to us right now.

Haley: I feel so bad. I ruined his life for nothing.

Jj: I feel bad that my father used you. He put your entire future at risk so he could become mayor. And I can't believe that people of salem are stupid enough to elect him. I don't want to go back there.

Haley: Jj, you don't mean that.

Jj: Listen to me. I've been thinking about this all night. Ice won't stop chasing us no matter where we go in this country. But if we can make it across the border into canada...

Haley: Canada?

Jj: I know that you don't want to leave salem, but we already have. And at least in canada, I could be with you. You wouldn't be alone.

Rafe: Hey, gal.

Jennifer: Yeah. I need to go anyway. I'm covering jack's swearing in ceremony.

Hope: You hang in there. Okay? We're gonna find him. We'll find him.

Eli: All right, I'm gonna dive in these tips.

Eve: I still can't believe you are roaming the streets a free man. Well, now that my husband is taking over, maybe things will be different.

Ben: You can't just come after me, eve. I haven't done anything wrong.

Eve: You killed three people, ben, including my daughter.

Ben: No words can express how terribly sorry I am. I'd give my life right now if it would mean saving theirs. But since that's not possible, all I can try to do now is just be a decent person, try to help other people.

Eve: Oh, though I'm moved by your groveling little speech, my daughter? She's still dead. Thanks to you. And then that fire from last year is still unsolved. Your wackadoodle sister doesn't take responsibility for it.

Ben: Police already looked into it. There's no evidence tying me to that fire.

Eve: Well, maybe they didn't look hard enough.

Ben: As I said, I will be sorry for the rest of my life for what I did. But I was sick then. And I'm better now.

Eve: Right, I'm-- wow, I'm just supposed to accept that? I'm supposed to peacefully coexist with some murderer that killed my daughter? Is that what you want me to do? Huh?

Ben: I know how difficult it must be for you.

Eve: Really?

Ben: I can't even imagine. I can't even imagine... just to be in my presence right now, but, yes, eve, we do have to coexist. That's the only choice we have.

Jj: I can get another job. And my family... my sister's in paris. My dad is an ass who's going to make salem unlivable.

Jj: She's the only person i feel bad about leaving, but it's not like I'm never going to see her again. She just visited abigail in paris. She can come visit us. As soon as we're settled in.

Jack: What about haley chen? She stood in front of the whole town and admitted that she used tripp dalton, and now she's back to using our son again.

Eli: These tips. Listen, two people resembling haley and tripp were seen boarding a ufo off route 17. That's the most promising one.

Tripp: Hey, sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys. Are you guys okay?

Jj: We're good. Listen. I hate to include you any further in this, but kind of tight on cash. I can get you the money back as soon as we get where we're going.

Tripp: Yeah, yeah, don't worry about it. Whatever you need, just tell me where you are.

Eli: Got it. I know where they are.

Hope: Let's go.

Jack: I, billy-jack johnson harcourt deveraux, do solemnly swear to support the constitution of the united states and all local ordinances.

Rafe: She never mentioned it.

Ciara: Yeah, I figured. I suggested that we call ben and see if we can make some sort of plan, but lani said that david was sick and you guys had to stay in the house all day.

Ciara: Yeah, that confused me too because later on I saw you guys leaving the brady pub with david and I thought that either I misunderstood something or lani lied to me.

Hope: Here. Haley? Jj?

[Knocking] Come on, open up. You have a credit card?

Jack: The era of inept law enforcement is over. We are cracking down on crime and cracking down hard.

[Affirmative chatter] So, without further ado, I'm please and proud to announce my new and improved police commissioner, eve deveraux.

[Cheers and applause]
