Episode #13524 ~ Nicole lashes out at Eric. Hope and Rafe's marriage implodes. Ben and Ciara break difficult news to Stefan and Chloe. Maggie and Victor have a huge falling out.

Ben: Is it okay if I tell my boss about this? Okay. No, thank you. Man, I owe you one.

[Beep]

Ciara: Who were you talking to?

Ben: The people from the contact list they gave me. An emt.

Ciara: About hoy?

Ben: There was a one-vehicle crash tonight. A van. It went into the ravine and the engine blew up.

Ciara: Was holly in that van? Ben?

Ben: They recovered two bodies, one was a kid.

Ciara: Oh, my god. Oh, my god, ben, she was just a kid.

Ben: It's the worst. I don't even know if stefan and chloe know about it. How the hell am I supposed to deliver this news to them?

Ciara: Don't worry about it. I'll go with you.

Ben: No, I don't want you to have to do it.

Ciara: Ben, I'm going with you, okay?

[Somber music]

Rafe: Nicole wanted a child more than anything in this world. Finally found her way back to her. How the hell are you supposed to ever get over that?

Hope: You don't get over it. Not ever. It stays with you forever and ever.

Eric: Let me get you out of here, come on. We have to go.

Nicole: This-- this must be A...a mistake. I mean, there's--there's no way holly was in that van. Okay, just tell me it's not true. Tell me it's not true, please. Tell me it's not true.

Eric: I'd give anything to give you that. I'm sorry.

Nicole: Don't you say you're sorry. Because if you do, then it means that it really happened, and it didn'T. It couldn't have happened.

[Sobs] I just want my daughter back! I just want her back. I just want her back.

Eric: I know.

Nicole: [Sobs]

Eric: I know. I know. I know.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: Well done, mate. We pulled off a major victory tonight.

Ted: Victory? I wouldn't say it went exactly as planned.

Xander: Oh, don't be like that, it all got sorted out. Little holly is on her way to her new home.

Ted: And all those people who loved her think she died in an explosion. Xander, it's cruel and sadistic.

Xander: Exactly. And it's just the beginning.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Ted: So explain to me, if the bodies were not hector's friend and holly, who the hell were they?

Xander: I don't know. Or care.

Ted: No, I care. I want to know who I helped you kill.

Xander: No one, that's the beauty of it. Those stiffs were already in the morgue.

Ted: How did you manage that?

Xander: Let's just say that my partner is very resourceful.

Ted: And when are you going to introduce me to this partner? After everything I've done for the two of you, I deserve to know who this person is.

Nicole: Hope. The D.A. Said they were going to bring holly home safely. You said they had it all under control. What happened?

Hope: It wasn't supposed to end like this.

Nicole: That's it? That's all you have to say?

[Sobs] You--

Eric: The police have done everything they could. The one who's to blame is the kidnappers.

Nicole: But you said everything was gonna be all right. You said I would have holly back today. And now I'm--I'm never gonna see her again or hold her.

Hope: I'm sorry.

Nicole: And I'm never gonna get a chance to say good-bye or tell her how much I love her. She's gone. Hope, she's gone forever.

Eric: Let's go home. Let's go home.

Nicole: I don't have a home. Holly was my home.

Hope: I'm sorry, nicole. I'm sorry.

Nicole: That's my home.

Hope: I'm so sorry.

Eric: Let's go.

Hope: [Groans]

Rafe: Do you think I made this happen?

Hope: You did.

Maggie: Thank you. Losing daniel was beyond awful.

Victor: I was afraid you wouldn't recover.

Maggie: When I found out about holly, she was, um-- she was like a miracle baby. She was such a sunny little thing. Whenever she smiled, it was like I was seeing daniel again.

Kate: Well, you still have melanie and you have parker.

Maggie: Thank god.

Victor: Holly's dead because of the way chloe lives her life.

Maggie: Don't say that.

Victor: She'd be alive today if chloe hadn't shacked up with stefan dimera.

Maggie: And you know why she did that? Because of you.

Stefan: Hey, where have you been?

Chloe: Checking on parker for the 19th time. He's still sleeping. Any word?

Stefan: No. How are you feeling?

Chloe: Uh, if we don't hear something soon, I'm gonna lose my mind.

Stefan: Yeah.

Chloe: Can't even imagine what nicole is going through.

Stefan: Ben. Hey, I need you to go to police headquarters now, make them talk to you. I'm starting to believe nicole convinced them to shut us out, and I'm not gonna let her do that to chloe. She has just as much of a right to know--

Chloe: You know something, don't you?

Ben: I just got word. There was an accident.

Chloe: Oh, god, no.

Hope: I made the decision that ted was to meet the kidnapper alone. I made that very clear. Why? Why? Why? A little girl is dead, rafe.

Rafe: I know. I know, and I will be tortured by that for the rest of my life. But I could not let ted walk into this situation alone. My gut told me he wanted to meet with that kidnapper by himself for his own reasons, and those reasons had nothing to do with bringing holly back.

Xander: My partner wishes to remain anonymous for now.

Ted: Xander, I want to know who I'm working for.

Xander: All right. You forced it out of me. It's julie williams.

Ted: What? Julie williams, hope's sister?

Xander: Right. She didn't fancy running that restaurant all by herself while chloe was off playing mom. She decided little holly had to go.

Ted: Don't play with me, you jackass.

Xander: Who's playing? Trust me, theodore, the less you know about our boss, the better off you'll be. Presenting downtherecare with cottonelle.

Victor: I don't know why you'd think I'd have anything to do with it.

Maggie: I'll tell you why. Brady wanted chloe and the kids to come and live with us, and you said no.

Victor: That's not true. I said we'd be glad to take in the children.

Maggie: But only if chloe didn't come with them. You were being completely unreasonable. See, you knew chloe would never agree to live apart from her kids. And you wouldn't budge. So if chloe and holly and parker had stayed with us, maybe none of this would have happened, and maybe we'd be tucking holly into bed tonight instead of picking out her pallbearers.

Victor: So you're blaming me for her death?

Xander: Why have you got your knickers in a twist anyway? Everything's working out in our favor, especially yours. Rafe barging in to play the hero. That's got to be quite the little bonus for you.

Ted: I've got to admit, it played out perfectly. Once I realized he was following me, I knew I could use it to my advantage.

Xander: You rang me up, we made some simple adjustments to our original plan, and now the rest of the world thinks that detective hernandez spooked the kidnappers and made a right bollocks of the rescue.

Ted: He did, that moron. This has to be the end between him and hope.

Hope: The only agenda ted had was to bring holly home safely. If you hadn't chased off the-- nicole... she would have her little girl in her arms right now, rafe.

Rafe: I don't think that's what ted was trying to do.

Hope: Oh, my-- what possible reason? What...possible reason...

Rafe: I don't know.

Hope: Would he want to hurt her?

Rafe: Okay? I don't know! That's what I was trying to find out, okay?

[Sighs]

Hope: You're on suspension. Effective immediately.

Ben: Two bodies were recovered. One was an adult. One was a child.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Stefan: You say that there was an explosion. How could they have possibly positively identified the bodies already?

Chloe: Okay, stop. I don't want to hear any more.

Stefan: No, no, I'm sorry, but I'm just not understanding this. Okay, the cartel, they agreed to this tradeoff, right? Hector for holly. But now his extradition has to be off the table. Why would he agree to that?

Ben: I don't know, stefan. The guy I spoke to was an emt.

Chloe: Does nicole know?

Ben: Yeah. My guy said she was at the crash site. Everybody was with her.

Chloe: [Crying]

Nicole: I am just trying to make sense of this whole thing. I mean, how could everything have gone so wrong? I tried so hard to get here. Through all the pain and the surgeries, the one thing that kept me going was picturing the moment that I saw my daughter and she saw me. I was so close to having that moment, and now it is never, ever gonna happen. I wish I blew up in that building!

Eric: Please, do not say that.

Nicole: Well, at least I'd be with holly now.

Eric: I know what you're going through.

Nicole: You do not know what I am going through. When I thought I was gonna die and I sent you away, I actually found some peace. Because I thought holly was gonna be safe. I thought to myself, eric is gonna raise her, and she is gonna have a full and happy life.

[Sobs] You know, when I told you I understood... I don'T. I don't understand. How could you let chloe take my daughter from you? Why didn't you keep your promise to me? Why?

[Cries]

[Dramatic music]

[Groans]

Ben: That was horrible. Thank you for coming with me. It meant a lot to have you there.

Ciara: I didn't even say anything. I couldn'T.

Bye

Ciara: Before I was born, my parents lost my older brother. He got hit by a car. And to this day, I don't-- I don't think my mom ever got over it.

Ben: How is anybody ever supposed to get over something like that?

Ciara: Oh, my god, poor chloe must just be blaming herself.

Ben: I blame myself too.

Ciara: Ben, you are just one man, and you were up against a cartel. And by god, did that gang want to do everything they could to get revenge on chloe in the worst way possible, but you did everything that you could to keep that from happening. Do you understand me?

Ben: I don't know.

Ciara: Ben, beating yourself up about it doesn't help anybody.

Ben: Sure isn't gonna bring holly back. That's for damn sure.

Rafe: And how long is this suspension gonna last?

Hope: Indefinitely.

Rafe: Indefinitely.

Hope: Your insubordination led directly to the death of a child.

[Gentle music]

Rafe: My badge. My weapon. I just--

Hope: Say it. I know you want-- say it.

Rafe: I just hope you're not taking something out on me professionally for what's happening with us personally.

Hope: That is so unfair to say. And it is definitely not true. I hate that it came to this, rafe.

Rafe: Me too. Hope.

[Somber music]

We both know this marriage isn't working. So maybe we should, uh... maybe we should think about making this separation more permanent.

Hope: Is that what you want?

Rafe: That's what you want, isn't it?

Hope: What I want... is just not to be sad anymore.

Ciara: Were you gonna try and sleep tonight?

Ben: I don't know.

Ciara: Yeah, me neither.

Ben: You know what I was thinking though? I got my little nephew living in this town now. I haven't even tried to go see him. I feel like I'm turning my back on him.

Ciara: Ben, with the way jordan feels about you now--

Ben: No, no, I'm not talking about, like, getting custody or anything like that. I'm not ready for that. No judge is going to allow that to happen, but I just feel like maybe I should be a part of his life. You know, just make an attempt, try to help rafe just keep an eye out for him. Is that, like, a terrible idea?

Ciara: Ben, that is a wonderful, amazing idea. It's unbelievable how sweet of a guy you are.

Kate: It doesn't help to point fingers at a person during a time like this. You're not the only one hurting, maggie.

Maggie: Would you please leave victor and me alone?

Kate: So you can take it out on victor?

Maggie: It's my house too. I wanted chloe and the children to stay with us, but that meant nothing to you.

Kate: If chloe was a decent mother, she would have accepted victor's offer. She would have known that keeping her children a distance from her was the safest thing she could do for them. But she's not decent.

Maggie: And you are?

Kate: I may not bake cookies, but I would never take a slut's side over my husband. Victor gave you the opportunity to protect your grandchildren, and you did not do it.

Victor: That's enough, kate.

Maggie: Thank you, victor. Could we please go home now?

Victor: Have the driver drive you home and come back for me. I'm gonna have one more drink.

Maggie: Are you kidding?

Victor: I need some time alone.

Maggie: Alone. Fine. I guess I'll just see you at home.

Nicole: [Crying]

[Mutters indistinctly] Oh, god. I know asking you to raise holly was asking a lot.

Eric: No. It would have been a privilege. And I had every intention of honoring your wishes.

Nicole: Then why didn't you?

Eric: Because of maggie. She hated it immediately.

Nicole: What? Why?

Eric: Daniel.

Nicole: [Sighs]

Eric: My drinking. But I convinced maggie that i could take great care of holly. But then chloe, she wanted to take her, and brady was backing her up, threatening to take me to court.

Nicole: Brady got involved?

Eric: I told justin that I wanted to fight, I would not stop. But your letter, it showed up.

Nicole: What letter?

Eric: The letter that you wrote saying that if anything every happened to you, you wanted chloe to take care of holly.

Nicole: Oh, my god.

Eric: Justin, he-- justin got it from your lawyer, from nashville, and...

Nicole: I-I-I totally-- I totally forgot about that. I mean, I-- I wrote it when xander forced me to marry him. I didn't know what he had in mind for me, and I sure as hell didn't want him to end up with my daughter.

Eric: It's just that justin thought that it was--he thought it was too strong of an argument versus your true feelings and what you verbally said to me. No matter how much I told justin that I wanted to fight, I wanted to fight, I had to think what's best for holly. Chloe, she gave birth to her. She was the mother of holly's brother. She loved her. So I just made a decision not to fight chloe. It wasn't easy. I hope you can understand that.

Nicole: I get it. I do. And there's things I didn't know or... didn't remember. Then later, when you knew that drug cartel was threatening chloe and the kids--I mean, you do--you did know about that, right?

Eric: Right, um--

Nicole: Then why didn't you do something then?

Xander: Here's the rest of the money we owe you. Oh, not gonna count it this time? Does that mean we've resolved our trust issues?

Ted: No. I just want to get out of here. The cops are gonna be all over this place.

Hope: Yeah, just get forensics here.

[Beep]

[Tense music]

What are you doing here? After my dvt blood clot...

Hope: I wasn't expecting to see you here.

Ted: I was wondering if I could have done anything differently. Hope, it's not easy knowing that you caused the death of a child.

Hope: It's not your fault, ted.

Ted: I was so close to getting holly back. Then rafe--rafe... I'm not blaming him. He must already feel terrible.

Hope: I suspended him.

Ted: I'm sure he didn't take that very well.

Hope: I think my marriage is over.

[Somber music]

Rafe: The love that you give, I--I want that. I want that every single day of my life, and I want you in my life. Forever.

[Tense music]

Maggie: [Cries]

[Somber music]

Kate: Victor gave you the opportunity to protect your grandchildren, and you did not do it.

[Sighs]

[Tense music]

Eric: Nicole, all I can tell you is that once I made a decision, allowing chloe to raise holly, I just tried not to interfere.

Nicole: Oh, you didn't interfere. Really, you just washed your hands of her, is that it?

Eric: No, of course not. I stayed in her life. Holly seemed perfectly happy. She was--she was a wonderful mother, and she was taking great care of her.

Nicole: Chloe did a bang-up job.

Eric: Nicole, this isn't her fault. It's not her fault.

[Somber music]

Nicole: You know what I realized? That I can't blame chloe for holly's death. I blame you.

[Gentle music]

Ciara: You know what? I'm gonna talk to rafe. And I'm gonna ask him if you can see the baby.

Ben: You think he'll actually listen to you?

Ciara: Yeah, I think so. He and I have a pretty good relationship.

Ben: Thank you. I honestly have no idea what I would do if you weren't in my life. You know that?

Ciara: Yeah, well, it's a good thing you're never gonna have to find out.

[Gentle music]

Ted: Hope, I'm truly sorry. I can see that you're in pain, and I know I didn't make this situation any easier.

Hope: Rafe and I just don't trust each other anymore. We're broken. My marriage is broken.

Ted: Oh, my god, come here. Come here.

Hope: [Sobs]

[Somber music]

[Ring clatters]

Kate: Well... to holly jonas, a beautiful little girl.

Victor: Hear, hear.

[Suspenseful music]
