Ciara: Morning.

Ben: Morning.

Ciara: [Chuckles softly] Sorry I, uh, I fell asleep before you got back last night. Did you sleep on the couch?

Ben: I wish. I just got back.

Ciara: You were up all night dealing with the chloe situation?

Ben: Yeah.

Ciara: [Sighs] Well, did you find the guys that were after her?

Ben: Not yet. But we're making progress. I made you some coffee.

Ciara: In a minute. You know, for a second, when I woke up, I, uh, I forgot I was at the gatehouse. For a second there, I thought we were back in the cabin.

Ben: Good times.

Ciara: In a lot of ways, they actually were.

Ben: You don't count the part where you almost died?

Ciara: I don't want to talk about the fire anymore. God knows I don't want to talk about the fire anymore. I know that you had nothing to do with it. And I know we're gonna find a way to prove that to the police. But for right now, all I want to do is this.

[Tender music]

Gabi: You and me? No, that's completely out of the question.

Stefan: Yeah, 'cause we work together.

Gabi: Because we hate each other. Right?

Stefan: You're damn right we do. You took everything from me. And when I stand next to you, all I feel is that I despise you, with the passion of a thousand suns.

Gabi: And I hate you with even more passion.

[Dramatic music]

Brady: Well, didn't really get this thing up as high as we wanted to, but you know what? You know what? I feel a big, big wind coming on, and I think when that wind comes, this is gonna go so high in the sky, it's gonna be great!

Chloe: It's gonna be higher than the trees and the birds.

Holly: And mommy!

[Melancholy music]

[Eerie music]

Eric: You know, when I first met nicole, she was-- she was working as a waitress. She dreamt of becoming a model, and I knew she'd be a natural. And she was, so I-- I shot a lot of pictures of her. We fell in love. I miss her.

Sarah: I know.

Eric: Oh. I'm sorry.

Sarah: Uh, no, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable.

Eric: No, you didn't make me feel uncomfortable.

Sarah: Yeah, but I did. I-I hate how awkward things are between us now. I should've just never burdened you with telling you how I feel about you.

Eric: You were just being honest.

Sarah: Yeah, but I should've known that you wouldn't return those feelings. I mean, you're still mourning nicole.

Eric: Sarah. Don'T. You have no reason to feel guilty. If anyone should feel guilty, it should be me.

[Somber music]

Marlena: [Chuckles] Will is going to love the book you chose for him.

John: Yeah, I hope so. It's all about positivity and hope. Helped me a lot when you were in the hospital.

Marlena: Positivity and hope. Could use some of that right about now.

John: Sweetheart. I respected will's wishes. I haven't said a word of this to paul, but don't you think that sami and lucas need to know what's going on here with his condition?

Marlena: Yeah. Well, this was will's request.

John: I know, but they are his parents. They're gonna want to be there for him, and sonny.

Marlena: I know. But if it turns out this is benign, then everybody would've worried for nothing. You know, I-I think will is right not to alarm people until we have all the facts.

[Suspenseful music]

Rex: Will. Will.

Sonny: Hey, what's happening?

Rex: He's seizing. Sonny, I need you to leave the room, please.

Sonny: No, but I--

Rex: Go, now. Please.

[Intense percussive music]

[Soft orchestration]

[Stark piano music]

Rex: I'm really sorry I had to kick you out there, bud.

Sonny: No, that's-- that's okay. W-what's going on?

Rex: Uh, he's--he's awake. The seizure's over.

Will: Sonny?

Sonny: Yeah. Hi. Hey, it's me. You--you gave us such a scare.

Will: What--uh, what happened?

Rex: Will, you had a seizure. And like I said, it's-- it's a side effect of the tumor.

Will: A seizure.

Rex: It can also be brought on by stress, and I think that brain surgery definitely fits that bill.

Sonny: Are you--are you gonna be able to do the biopsy today?

Rex: Oh, yeah, yeah. It's standard protocol to administer anti-seizure medication in cases like these, pre-op, so there's no reason why we can't go forward.

Will: Oh. Good.

Sonny: Yeah. Really good, and the sooner that we know what we're dealing with, the sooner we can start the treatment.

Rex: That's--that's exactly right, yeah.

Will: Hey. Hey, don't, uh, don't look so worried.

Sonny: Worried? Me? No. All right, we're gonna get through this. We have to. Okay, we just started our lives together.

[Forlorn music]

Sarah: Why would you feel guilty?

Eric: Because. Because I still feel responsible for her death.

Sarah: Eric, it-- that wasn't your fault.

[Stark piano music]

Eric: I look at this every day.

Sarah: The st. Christopher medal you gave her.

Eric: I told her that it would protect her. I told her that I would be there to protect her.

Sarah: You did everything that you could.

Eric: I keep trying. Then, when jack turned up, and xander-- we even thought that kristen might even turn up-- so I told myself, why not nicole?

Sarah: I know.

Eric: You know, and... they never even found her body.

Sarah: So there was never really closure.

Eric: No. You know, I'm working on it. But I don't think there ever will be. Maybe someday.

Sarah: I think that nicole would want that for you. She wouldn't want you to beat yourself up. She'd--she'd want you to be happy. And to find love again.

Chloe: Okay, you can go play with your friend lacey, but please stay where I can see you, okay?

Holly: My mama sees me.

Chloe: I...

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: Yeah, your-- your mommy always sees you. She's up in heaven, looking down at us, and I know that she-- she loves you so much, and she loves when you're having fun, okay?

Holly: Open this.

Chloe: We're having fun, right?

Brady: Ouch. That was--that was rough.

Chloe: Yeah, I-- I guess I sometimes forget how much she still remembers nicole. I don't know, did I say the right thing?

Brady: Yeah, you did. You did. You always do. Thank you, for allowing me to hang out with you two. It was--it was nice. I'm lucky to have run into you. Presenting downtherecare with cottonelle.

Stefan: Now that we've established that we both have this mutual hatred--

Gabi: Oh, passionate hatred.

Stefan: Right. So when you suggested that we could both benefit from some no-strings-attached sex--

[Moody music]

Ciara: So, you, uh, you brought that coffee for me?

Ben: I grabbed it from the kitchen on the way in.

Ciara: That was really sweet of you.

Ben: Come on. The least I could've done after I ran out on you last night.

Ciara: Yeah. Well, uh, we did sort of get interrupted.

Ben: I hate that i had to leave. My god, I hated it so much. Especially since we were almost in the middle of something I've been waiting a very long time for.

Ciara: Me too. But, uh, it'll happen. I'm not going anywhere.

[Chuckles]

Ben: You don't know how happy that makes me that you say those words.

Ciara: Yeah, well, I completely understand that you have to do your job. Especially because chloe's life depends on it.

Ben: Yeah.

Ciara: Yeah.

Ben: Well, hopefully, we'll catch these cartel guys soon and... it'll all be over.

Ciara: I, uh-- I, uh--you--you probably have a lot of work to do, and I should probably get home.

Ben: Mm-hmm.

Ciara: Do you want your shirt back?

Ben: No, no, you keep that. It looks way better on you. As I've told you before. Anyway, you don't have to rush out of here.

Ciara: I know, but I, uh, I thought that if I stayed, then I might be somewhat of a distraction.

Ben: Mm. You're already distracting me.

Ciara: Mm.

Ben: I am totally, totally cool with that. Are you sure you have to go home right now?

Ciara: No.

Ben: Do you want to go home right now?

Ciara: Not even a little bit.

Eric: Yeah, I can shoot your photos so they don't feel posed or forced.

Sarah: That sounds great. But are you sure that's a good idea?

Eric: You don't want me to shoot your wedding photo?

Sarah: No, no, no, it's just, I kind of have a feeling that rex is gonna ask you to be his best man.

Eric: No.

Sarah: What?

Eric: I don't want to be his best man.

Sarah: Why not?

[Knocking on door]

Eric: I'll get it. Mom.

Marlena: Hey, sweetie. I hope I'm not interrupting.

[Suspenseful music]

Brady: Dad. You scared me, man. What are you doing?

John: You're a little bit jumpy there, aren't you? Especially since you have a couple dimera goons watching your back.

Brady: Yeah, it's these goons that are making me jumpy.

Chloe: Just don't make any sudden moves and you should be fine.

Brady: I'll take your advice on that one.

John: Yeah, so those cartel guys are still hanging around somewhere?

Chloe: Yeah. Stefan's looking for them.

Brady: Well, the word is that they--they flew out of the jurisdiction, but who knows if they're still around, you know? They could be still out there.

John: Well, I'm sorry you and the kids are having to go through this, so if there's anything you need, you just give me a call.

Brady: Thanks, dad. Well, chloe has made it very clear that she doesn't want anymore interference.

John: Well, I can understand that. Yeah. Hey. Beautiful day for a picnic, huh? Glad to see you're still living your life.

Chloe: I'm trying, yeah.

John: Yeah. It kind of helps to have this guy around, huh?

[Laughs] Really, it's nice to see the two of you spending some time together again.

[Ethereal music]

Sonny: Hey, rex, would you mind if I had a moment alone with will? Uh, before the surgery?

Rex: Oh, yeah, of course. Uh, the sedative's gonna kick in soon, so.

Will: Yeah, you're telling me.

Rex: [Laughs] All right. I'll be right outside.

Will: So... what's new?

Sonny: How're you feeling?

Will: Um, a little sleepy.

Sonny: I mean, about the surgery.

Will: Oh, I just-- I want it to be over with. I know this--this is not what you signed up for. What're you talking about? This is just one more obstacle that we have to overcome. Just like susan and leo.

Will: Oh. I think, um, a brain tumor may be the one thing worse than leo stark.

Sonny: Yeah, it's a tossup. But it's not just you fighting this brain tumor. It is everyone who loves you, okay? Your whole family, your friends.

Will: Sorry.

Sonny: It's okay. You--you can close your eyes and go to sleep, okay? When you wake up, I'll be right here.

Sonny: I promise. Everything's gonna be fine.

Rex: All right, guys, let's get this show on the road, huh?

Sonny: Yeah, just, uh, just one second.

[Melancholy music]

[Cell phone beeps]

Ben: Not again.

Ciara: Mm.

Ben: [Sighs] Damn it.

[Tender music]

Brady: We actually didn't-- we didn't plan this picnic together.

John: You didn't?

Chloe: No, I was just out here with holly and...

Brady: I-I came jogging along and I happened to run into these two trying to put this kite together. Which was hilarious.

John: I see.

Chloe: Yeah, your son is an excellent kite assembler.

John: Yeah, yeah, it's just one of his many skills.

Brady: Oh, thank you.

[Laughter]

Chloe: Okay, I'll let you two catch up. I'll see how holly's doing with her little friend.

Brady: All right. What? Why're you looking at me like that? What?

John: Just total accident that you happened to run into chloe here, huh?

Brady: Yeah, dad, it was a total coincidence.

John: I'll take your word for it. Other than that, how are things going? Haven't talked to you for a while.

Brady: I'm good. I'm good. I'm back in the fold at titan.

John: That's what I heard.

Brady: As you know, so.

John: Yeah, yeah.

Brady: By the way, I'm very happy that leo turned out not to be your son. I was relieved that he turned out not to be my brother.

John: He's a real piece of work, isn't her?

Brady: He is. I'm glad he's gone. Unfortunately, that guy has a bad habit of turning up just when you think you've gotten rid of him.

Sonny: Hey. W-why aren't you with will? Is something wrong?

Rex: No, no, no. Nothing's wrong. They just don't need me yet in the or. The radiology and anesthesia teams are doing their thing, and will's in good hands.

Sonny: Okay. Um, do you have time for a couple questions?

Rex: Yeah, yeah, what's up?

Sonny: Well, that seizure, is it a bad sign?

Rex: Bad sign, like, is the tumor malignant or...

Sonny: Yeah.

Rex: Well, you can have seizures with a benign tumor as well.

Sonny: But if you had to guess on a prognosis, like...

Rex: I-I know where you're coming from, but understand that I really don't want to speculate. We're gonna have the answers as soon as possible. I'll let you know as soon as will's out.

[Somber music]

Eric: Come in. Of course you're not interrupting.

Sarah: Hi, marlena. It's nice to see you.

Marlena: Yeah, you too.

Eric: Hey, I thought you were at the hospital with will.

Marlena: Oh, I'm going over there now, but I wanted to talk to you first.

Eric: Yeah, what's up?

Marlena: Um, have you spoken to sami?

Eric: Uh, it's been a week or two, why?

Marlena: Well, see, will, is, um, adamant that neither she nor lucas know about the diagnosis.

Eric: Yeah. Of course. I won't say a thing.

Marlena: And I know that you'll keep will in your prayers.

Eric: Always.

Marlena: And no more grand bargains, please.

Eric: Mom.

Marlena: [Chuckles]

Sarah: What's she talking about?

Eric: That's between god and me. Right, mom?

Marlena: Yeah. Right. What is this doing out?

Sarah: Oh, um, rex and i set a wedding date, and eric was kind enough to offer to shoot our photos for--as a gift.

Marlena: Well, yes. He is very generous, and... very selfless.

Eric: You know, I'd like to have a private conversation with you, if that's all right.

Sarah: No, it's-- I have to make a call and check on a patient, so...

Eric: What are you doing?

Marlena: Look, it's bad enough that you will not tell her how you feel about her. But to torment yourself by documenting her marriage to your brother?

Eric: We're not gonna do this right now.

Marlena: You need to face the truth.

Eric: It's not my choice to make.

Marlena: But it is. Life is so short. What is there besides love?

Eric: Love is fleeting. Ask nicole.

Marlena: Look, I-- I know. I understand about nicole. And I know you'll probably never completely get over her, but she is gone.

Eric: I'm very well aware of that.

Marlena: And don't you think she'd want you to be happy?

Eric: Mom. Sarah has chosen to marry rex.

Marlena: But is that what she wants? You see, I'm not convinced. I think she has very strong feelings for you, and if-- if she knew that you shared those feelings--

Eric: I swear, if you say anything to her, I'll never forgive you. In terms of treating sensitivity,

Stefan: What I shared with gabby has nothing to do with you.

Gabi: So it's a coincidence that she shared my name and wore my clothes?

Stefan: None of that mattered. It's who she was. It's how I felt when we were together that mattered. Our relationship was real.

Ben: My security team finally tracked down those cartel thugs that are after chloe.

Ciara: They found them?

Ben: Yeah. They're on the way back to salem right now.

Ciara: That can't be good.

Ben: Look, I'm sorry. I'm gonna have to leave you again, okay?

Ciara: Wait, shouldn't you call the police?

Ben: What? No. No cops. No.

Ciara: But why? Ben, they could help you.

Ben: Or they can prevent me from doing my job, ciara. I'm sorry, I don't trust them. I'm sorry to say that also includes your mom and rafe.

Ciara: Well, after the way they treated you, I don't really blame you, but when it comes to saving chloe's life, I really don't--

Sarah: What were you and your mom arguing about?

Eric: Uh, you know, just everybody's under a lot of stress. We were talking about whether we should tell anybody about, uh, or share his secret with sami.

Sarah: Yeah, I-I understand. So that talk about the pact that you made with god--

Eric: You know what, I'd really rather we not talk about that, if that's okay.

Sarah: Yeah, of course.

Eric: Why don't we get back to the wedding, okay?

Sarah: Are you sure?

Eric: Yeah. I'm sure.

Sarah: Great. Uh, then you can finish telling me why you won't stand up for rex and me. (Meg vo) I can see if my endometriosis pain gets better...

[Stark piano music]

Sonny: Do you remember the day we met? I don't know if you paid any attention to me, but... I sure noticed you. Watching you struggle with who you were was so hard for me. Because I knew that I loved you. And I know... I knew that there was nothing I could do except... be there for you. Like I am right now.

[Tender music]

John: Marlena wanted to be here for you, but she got called away on an emergency, got a patient in the er.

Sonny: I understand.

John: So, will, he's still in surgery? How was he before he went in?

Sonny: Not great. He had a seizure today. And, uh, rex said it was caused by the tumor, so...

John: Oh, that's rough. I'm sorry that you had to witness that.

Sonny: Yeah, me too.

John: Yeah. Look, kid, I know that you're trying to be strong for-- for will, but just know that doc and I, we're here for you every step of the way. We think of the world of you, young man, and will's lucky to have you in his life.

Sonny: I'm the lucky one. Thank you.

John: You know, doc and I, we were just talking this morning, you know, and she was telling me that she just can't wait for the day when she can marry you and will again. And I told her, "you know what? Me neither."

Stefan: What happened to all this concern you had for the father of your child?

Gabi: You think I'm not worried about will?

Stefan: Just wondering why you're here with me and not at the hospital with him.

Gabi: Well, I told you, I came to deal with the crisis at gabi chic.

Stefan: A crisis that-- pew!-- Went away the second you started coming on to me.

Ben: Yeah, I tried, but it's going straight to voice mail. That whole area around the park, it's notorious for being a dead zone. I have to warn them in person.

Stefan: I'll go with you. Gabi.

Gabi: Yeah, I'll show myself out. Text me, if you need anything.

Stefan: Let's go.

[Moody music]

Brady: What is it? What's wrong?

Chloe: Uh, your phone. I saved it from holly's sticky fingers.

Brady: Gotta keep your eye out on that one at all times.

Chloe: Uh, yeah, and I didn't mean to look, but your text messages were open.

Brady: My messages?

Chloe: Yeah, like the one text from gabi telling you that holly and i were gonna be here.

Brady: Chloe, look.

Chloe: Brady, is it true? Did you know? Was this a setup?

Brady: No, it's not-- it wasn't a setup. No, it was nothing like--

Chloe: Did you trick me?

Brady: No. No.

Chloe: Yes or no. Did you know we were gonna be here? Did you lie to me?

Ciara: Gabi. Hi. What're you doing here?

Gabi: Oh, hey, I just, I had some unfinished business with stefan. What're you doing here?

Ciara: I was in the gatehouse.

Gabi: You spent the night with ben?

Ciara: Yeah. But it's not what you think.

Gabi: So you didn't sleep in ben's bed?

Ciara: No, I did, but... no, he was out all night. I just needed somewhere to go. I needed to get out of the loft for haley and tripp's wedding.

Gabi: Right. Yeah. No judgment. Whatever, I just-- no, I wouldn't want to be sleeping with a serial killer, but to each his own, you know?

Gabi: Do you think that that's a good idea? I mean, we should probably call your mom or rafe.

Ciara: Mm... I don't know, gabi. Ben was pretty adamant that he doesn't trust them.

Gabi: Yeah. Seems like they don't even trust each other these days. Did you know that rafe is actually staying at my house with jordan's baby?

Ciara: What? He moved out?

Gabi: Well, from what rafe said, uh... your mom just didn't want to be around a baby, so he moved out.

Ciara: Really? Well, I mean... it's not like I blame her. Why is he so fixated on that baby?

Gabi: Well, her next-of-kin is ben. I certainly would not want some psycho taking care of an innocent baby.

Ciara: Okay, gabi, ben is not a psychopath. Just... don't talk about my boyfriend like that, okay?

Gabi: I'm sorry. You know, I'm sorry. I'm just... a little on edge with, you know, stefan and will's condition, so I'm sorry.

Sonny: How'd it go?

Rex: Procedure went very smoothly.

Sonny: And when do you think we'll have the results of the biopsy?

Rex: We just sent the sample off to the lab. We should know in a few days.

Sonny: A few days?

Rex: Mm-hmm.

Will: Hey. How'd it go?

Rex: You did great, man.

Will: No, you-- you did great. You did all the work.

Sonny: Always humble.

Will: Hey. How's life?

Sonny: Life is amazing. 'Cause I have you. (Announcer) do you push through migraine?

Eric: You saw what happened between me and rex earlier.

Eric: But you saw how he snapped at me, so obviously, he's not over how you had feelings for me.

Sarah: But you and i are still okay, right?

Eric: Yes. We'll always be friends.

Sarah: But you still don't want to be the best man.

Eric: No, I do think it's better for my relationship with my brother if I'm not in the party.

Sarah: All right. I understand.

Eric: You know he didn't even ask me. I don't think he planned on it.

Sarah: Okay. Just as long as that decision didn't have anything to do with me.

Eric: Why would you think that?

Sarah: I heard a little bit of what you and your mom were talking about earlier, and I know that it wasn't about will. So what was the argument really about?

[Suspenseful music]

Will: How's my bandage look? I-I was--I was thinking it could be my new style. Maybe they'll let me keep it when I go home.

Sonny: I think you're still a little loopy from the anesthesia.

Will: Loopy?

Brady: They're gone. Why? What's wrong?

[Uneasy music]

Chloe: Now I remember why I broke up with you the first time and the second time.

Brady: Chloe. I'm worried about you. That's it. I-I'm worried about you being in stefan's house. I don't like you being there--

Chloe: Okay, there are so many things I want to say to you right now, but I won't, not in front of holly, so please leave. Just pack up her stuff and drop it off at the mansion. Come on, holly, let's go. Come on.

Brady: At least let me walk you to the car.

Chloe: No, that's what the bodyguards are for. Come on, sweetheart, let's go. All right. Say bye to brady.

Holly: Bye.

Brady: Bye. Chloe, come on. Oh, hey. Sorry.

[Ethereal whooshing]

Chloe: [Sighs] I'm sorry we had to cut our picnic short, sweetheart. I promise you, I will take you myself to fly that kite on another nice day. We don't need anybody. We certainly don't need brady. We can take care of ourselves. We also have those nice bodyguards outside making sure we're safe.

[Intense music]

Ciara: Ben wanted me to stay in the gatehouse till he gets back, but I guess I'll just go home. Bye.

Gabi: Ciara, hey.

Ciara: Yeah.

Gabi: I know that it's none of my business, but... do you think that he's the right guy? I mean, after everything that he's done--
