Eli: And you got the day off.

Lani: I'm sorry you have to work.

Eli: What are you gonna do today?

Lani: I think I'ma take myself on a lunch date, maybe try that new pizza place.

Eli: Really? Without me? I'm the one that told you about that place!

Lani: Okay, well, then, find a way to meet me there in about an hour or so.

Eli: Done. Gotta go.

Lani: Mm.Ye.

Eli: Bye.

[Baby fusses]

Lani: Oh, oh, oh!

Rafe: Oh, my god.

Lani: Oh, you could definitely use some help.

Rafe: Yeah.

Lani: Here.

Rafe: He's cute, but he sure is fussy. I don't know how to figure out what's going on.

Lani: Um, hey, david. What's going on?

Rafe: Oh, where am I gonna warm a bottle around here?

Lani: Um, have you tried the café?

Rafe: That's a good idea. See? That--can you watch him for a minute?

Lani: Of course. Go, go. It's all right, little guy. I'm here. It's okay.

[Gentle music]

Ted: Looks like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Hope: Uh, I just didn't sleep very well last night.

Ted: Something wrong? Ciara?

Hope: No, no, ciara's fine, thank god. I... was helping rafe with jordan's baby.

Ted: What is this jordan's baby doing at your place?

Hope: Because she asked rafe to take him in. He agreed.

Ted: You're kidding?

Hope: Rafe's trying to figure something else out, but baby david is with us until he does.

Ted: And you're okay with that?

Hope: Yes, I'm fine with it. He's very sweet. Why wouldn't i be?

Ted: I don't know. Maybe--

Hope: Ted, I'm fine with it. It's fine.

Ted: Okay. Did you have any more time to think about what I said yesterday?

Hope: Yes. Of course I did.

[Tender music]

I have hardly thought about anything else.

[Jazz music]

Eric: [Russian accent] Eve donovan? I have dirt on mr. Deveraux opponent.

Eve: Ah, thank you.

Eric: You're welcome.

Eve: Um, no one has come in here asking for me today, have they?

Eric: No. I'm sorry. Is everything okay?

Eve: Yeah. I'm just meeting someone that I haven't met before, and I've got a million things to do today.

Eric: Right, you and-- you and jack. You're supposed to get married today.

Eve: Mm-hmm. I should be getting dressed for the wedding right now, actually.

Eric: Meeting must be very important.

Eve: Well, if it pans out, it could change everything for jack and me.

Jack: That smoke--it's not my imagination. Oh, thank god for housekeeping.

[Siren blares] Oh, boy. This whole place is burning up. All right. It's all on fire now! All right. Oh, it's not too hot. All right, give it a go. Give it a go. All right, okay. One, two, three!

[Coughing] Where's the fire?

Firefighter: It's in the basement! Put this over your head! We're evacuating everybody!

Jack: [Coughs] Give me that!

Firefighter: Go! Go!

[Jack coughing]

Will: So what's up? Why, um--why couldn't you just give me my results over the phone?

Rex: I needed to look over some things before we talked.

Will: And?

Rex: Will, I really am sorry, but I have some bad news for you.

Will: Okay. Just, uh-- I mean, just--just tell me.

Rex: You have a small mass on your frontal lobe.

Will: I-I--are you-- are you saying I have a brain tumor?

[Dramatic music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Rex: You have a small tumor, and it probably explains your headaches. It's probably the reason why you passed out.

Will: Okay.

[Gentle music]

Will: So I have, uh, brain cancer?

Sarah: No, no, no, nobody is saying that. It could very well be benign.

Rex: Look, I know that this is a lot to take in, and easier said than done, but don't assume the worst right now, okay? The good news is, your tumor's very small, and malignant tumors are usually larger, and grow much faster.

Will: Mm.

Sonny: So that's small. That means that you could--can you-- can you take it out?

Rex: It's--it's very risky, given its location, but we're gonna get a biopsy done as soon as possible, okay?

Sonny: Okay. We can hold onto that. Right?

Will: Yeah.

Sonny: Yeah.

Sarah: And I know that you must have a lot of questions, and--

Will: I do. I, um-- I have one right now. So... this mass is giving me headaches and making me pass out. Is it gonna kill me, too?

[Ringing synth music]

Eve: Hey. I know you're probably wondering where I am. I got a call from an anonymous source, saying that they had some dirt on abe carver or his campaign. They wanted me to meet at the brady pub, and that's where I am but I'm still--I'm still waiting for them to show up, but I'll let you know what I find out, but I'm telling you, this could actually be something really big. [Laughs] Okay, talk to you later, jack. Bye. [Hangs up] Hm.

Eric: Another mimosa?

Eve: Um... sure. That'd be great. Thank you.

Eric: So you have dirt on abe carver.

Eve: Do you eavesdrop on all your customers here?

Eric: No, just that your voice tends to carry.

Eve: Oh.

Eric: Well, I hope it wasn't with a foreign national. I hate to see you accused of treason. What I'm saying is, you can't believe anything you hear from a foreigner.

Eve: Well, that's not true. See, my dad is from england, but I tell you what I am worried about, like a lot of americans, are illegal immigrants.

Eric: Like haley chen? You know, the young nurse at the university hospital. I can't tell you how many nights I spend lying awake with worry about her.

Eve: Okay, jack is just addressing public's concern. Okay?

Eric: Are you sure it's not just you appealing to their fears, appealing to their worst instincts? Because that's what it looks like to me. You're also appealing to jack's worst instincts, too, turning a guy with no memory into something he's not.

Eve: I'm not trying to change jack into anything, okay? I am fine with him just the way he is. The person who's trying to change him is jennifer, that little friend of yours, and that is why she lost him to me. [Chuckles]

[Uneasy string music]

Jack: Okay, I'm--I'm in! W--I'm in! What--what is--

Firefighter: Go on!

Jack: Is this a storage closet? What--I... can't be safe in here. The fire's-- isn't the fire in the basement? Wait a minute. We got-- we have to get out of the building, don't we? We have to-- oh, my gosh. We have to get out of here. We have to get-- jennifer.

Jennifer: Jack. Okay, there is no fire, but this is an emergency.

[Dramatic music]

(Susan n) I'm susan nimoy.

Rafe: Here. He asleep? Whoa. Baby whisperer.

Lani: [Laughs]

Rafe: God. Thank god you were here.

Lani: Yeah, you just needed another pair of hands.

Rafe: Yeah. I didn't want to bring him with me, but hope was working, you know. I had to get all this stuff.

Lani: Yeah, babies, they-- they need a lot of stuff.

Rafe: Yeah. He was up all night, too.

Lani: Do you know how long you're gonna be responsible for?

Rafe: Uh, no. Wish I did.

Lani: Yeah.

Rafe: No.

Ted: So if you haven't thought of anything else...

Hope: Ted... only because your persistence is... so infuriating. I--you just won't stop, will you? You just keep trying everything you can think of. I have faith in my marriage.

Ted: Your faith in your marriage is being undermined by your husband, not me, hope.

Hope: I should--I shouldn't have confided in you. I wish i hadn'T. I... I shared too much with you, and now you see my marriage is flawed, which, of course, makes you think that I am open to another relationship, which I'm not. I'm not... open to another relationship.

[Spacey music]

Ted, I am committed to my marriage! I'm committed to rafe. I thought I made that very clear to you.

Ted: No, I believe you haven't made it clear, because it's not clear to you. You want more than what rafe has to offer. You want someone who's all-in. You want someone that will make you the center of his universe. I can be that someone, hope.

Hope: Please, stop, stop! Ted, go away. Stop, please.

Ted: I meant it when I said that I loved you yesterday.

Eli: What the hell does he think he's doing?

Eve: Thanks.

[Tense synth music]

Eric: So...

Eve: What?

Eric: It doesn't bother you to feed jack a made-up version of what his life would be with jennifer and his kids?

Eve: I'm not feeding jack anything, eric. He read his own book. He knows he was divorced from jennifer when he had his accident, and he also knows that his marriage was far from perfect.

Eric: Well, at least they were in love. I don't know what you and jack have, but I know it's not love.

Eve: Oh, that's right. Gosh, I forgot. You are an expert on love. Yeah, see how well that worked out for you.

Eric: Touché.

Eve: What you should be doing is you should be thanking me, 'cause I have left you a clear shot straight to jennifer.

Eric: Jennifer and I are good friends, and we always will be. Jack is the love of her life, and she is his. I'd be a fool not to see that, and so would you.

Jack: What the hell's going on here?

Jennifer: Jack, I tricked you, and I'm so sorry.

Jack: Where did you get that teeny-tiny little fireman's outfit?

Jennifer: That doesn't matter! I was just trying to find a way to get you alone so that I could talk to you, just the two of us.

Jack: I'm getting married today!

Jennifer: Yes, the tux is a dead giveaway, jack.

Jack: I don't have time for this. Wait a--it's locked!

Jennifer: I know.

Jack: It's locked!

Jennifer: I know it's locked!

Jack: You got the key. Give me the key.

Jennifer: No, no, no. Not giving you the key. No, we're not going anywhere until you hear what I have to say, jack.

Jack: What are you gonna lecture me about now? What else can you say? Look. Look, I'm just gonna call the front desk.

Jennifer: No, your phone-- your phone is in your room. It's not there.

Jack: You're loving this, aren't you?

Jennifer: No, I just want your undivided attention, please.

Jack: In that ridiculous outfit? You got it.

Jennifer: You know what? One time, you used a ridiculous outfit like this to stop me from making the biggest mistake of my life, jack. I'm just returning the favor.

Rafe: Spoke to a doctor at bayview this morning, and he said he has no idea how long jordan is gonna have to be there, much less how long before she can be responsible for a child.

Lani: And what about his-- his father?

Rafe: Uh, jordan refused to tell me who he is.

Lani: Any relatives?

Rafe: Outside of clyde and ben? No.

Lani: Oh, my god. Rafe, what are you gonna do?

Rafe: [Laughs] I don't know. I don't know. Um... I mean, the law says that I'm supposed to hand him over to child protective services.

Lani: What? No! You cannot do that to him.

Eli: Did I just hear right? Did ted laurent say that he loves you?

Hope: I can handle him.

Eli: Yeah, well, if you need some backup--

Hope: I don't need backup.

Eli: Hope, rafe is my friend, and my partner, and you're my family. What the hell is going on?

[Somber synth music]

Hope: Ted thinks he's in love with me, and he's used to getting what he wants.

Eli: Which is you.

[Snort] Hell, no. I'm not gonna stand for--

Hope: Eli, eli.

Eli: Hope, he can't come strolling in here, harassing you, declaring his love for you when you're committed to your marriage. Well, you are, aren't you?

Hope: I'm not discussing this with you.

Eli: You're not thinking of leaving rafe, are you?

Sarah: Well, we don't have enough information yet to give you a prognosis.

Will: Okay.

Sonny: And he--he doesn't have to stay here, right? I'd love to take him home.

Rex: No, no, no. He-- that's totally fine. He can go home, but will, no driving, no working, no strenuous exercise, and if your symptoms worsen, okay, like--like blurred vision, or--or your headaches get worse, you call me as soon as possible, okay?

Sonny: And if he doesn't, i will.

Rex: You hang in there, okay?

Will: Mm-hmm.

[Uneasy string music]

Will: What's that expression? "Life is what happens when you're making other plans."

Eve: No, okay, that's it. I don't have all damn day.

Eric: What, you're giving up on your new friend?

Eve: Ah, well, I think it's pretty obvious. He either got cold feet, or I was played.

Eric: I'm so sorry to have

[Accent] Disappointed american lady.

[Jazz music]

Eve: That was you?

Eric: Oh, my bad.

Eve: Oh...

Jack: You know, I have no clue what you're talking about! You know that!

Jennifer: Jack, just listen to me. It was... it was a long time ago, and... I was about to marry this guy, emilio ramirez. I mean, he was a nice enough guy, but my heart-- my heart belonged to you, jack.

Jack: So why were you marrying him?

Jennifer: For reasons that i won't go into, you had a really hard time admitting that you felt the same way about me, and I just decided that I was going to move on with my life, so I had my veil, I had my bouquet, I had the whole nine yards, and then, all of a sudden, you showed up. There you were.

[Metallic music]

Jack: There you are! Come on! Let's go!

Jennifer: What?

Jack: Let's go! Come on!

Jennifer: What do you mean? Whoa! What are you doing?

Jack: Saving you! The place is on fire! Burning down!

Jennifer: Wait a minute! Wait, then--

[Laughs] And when I found out that you were that fireman, I was as mad as you are right now, jack. Jack!

Jack: Where? Who?

Jennifer: Oh, jack! You! Jack! [Gasps]

Jack: Hit it!

Jennifer: Jack! Jack!

Jack: Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!

[Jennifer screams]

Jennifer: Let go of me!

[Both yelling]

[Gentle piano music]

Jack brady!

[Yelling incoherently]

Jack: I... took you away on a fire truck.

Jennifer: You took me to a cabin in the woods, and you told me all the reasons why i shouldn't marry emilio ramirez, but you still couldn't tell me how you felt about me, jack, and then, we found ourselves in a really dangerous situation.

Jack: This isn't what I want. I just wanted to t-- I just wanted to talk to you! Damn. I just... oh, come on, jennifer. Come on. Don't die on me! Don't die on me, you hear? You're not gonna die! I need... I need you. I mean, who--who--who am I gonna argue with, huh? Look, it just wouldn't be the same. It just wouldn't be-- it just wouldn't be good.

Jennifer: [Quietly] Jack...

[Coughs] Oh...

Jack: Jennifer?

Jennifer: Oh...

Jack: Jennifer!

Jennifer: Oh, jack?

Jack: It's right. It's-- it's jack. I'm right up here. I'm right here!

Jennifer: Jack.

Jack: Don't worry. I'm gonna come and get you, all right?

Jennifer: No, no.

Jack: I'll be right down!

Jennifer: No, jack, it's too dangerous.

Jack: No, don't worry about that! I only care about you, okay?

Jennifer: W-what'd you say?

Jack: I said I only care ab-- I don't care about anything else! All I care about is you! All I care about is you! I'm just gonna make sure that--

Jennifer: I knew it, jack! I knew it all along! I knew you cared about me! I knew it, jack! And that was it. Your secret was out.

[Moody woodwind music]

And it still took a really long time for us to get together, jack, but... after you kissed me, that changed everything. Does that sound even a little bit familiar?

Eve: You were the one who called me?

Eric: Da.

Eve: [Sighs] What, you were gonna tell the cops that I was working with the russians, weren't you? Hmm? Is that what you were gonna do? Have you ever heard of the word entrapment, eric?

Eric: It's called punked. Face it.

Eve: Jennifer. She--she put you up to this, didn't she? Yeah, she did.

Eric: Actually, it was all my idea.

Eve: Your idea for what?

Eric: To give jack and jennifer some time to talk without you hovering.

Eve: You are a son of a bitch!

Eric: Oh, spasibo. That means "thank you."

Eve: I oughta--

Eric: Why are you so worked up? I mean, you and jack-- you're in love.

Eve: Oh, you know what? You and jennifer--you're not gonna get away with this!

Eric: Have a great wedding, my little babushka!

Eve: Shut up.

Eric: [Chuckles]

Jack: It's nice to hear you talk about me and not refer to me as a jerk or eve's puppet. I wish I could remember it.

Jennifer: But you don'T.

Jack: No. Can we just unlock the door now?

Jennifer: No, jack, because I-I really-- I really thought that story would do the trick.

Jack: It's not. No more tricks. I'm sorry. It's not working.

Jennifer: Jack, I can't let you marry eve.

Jack: Why not?

Jennifer: Because I-- because then I will never get a chance to have you back. The real you, the man that I fell in love with.

Jack: Okay, let's be honest. Why would you want that jack back? I mean, look. He sounds like a complete idiot! If--if I loved you, why didn't I just say that?

Jennifer: Because--because you were stubborn and--and complicated and so neurotic! I mean... no, you weren't neurotic. That's not the right word. You were--you--you were just-- you were emotionally stunted. That's what you were.

Jack: Ah, so you'd rather have that than the way I am now?

Jennifer: Yes! I would, because underneath that cynical exterior was this-- this heart that held so much love. The jack deveraux that I married-- he was a wonderful husband a lot of the time, and he was so funny, and he was an incredible father, and I'm telling you right now, I would do anything to have that man back.

[Baby fusses]

Lani: It's okay. It's okay. I just--I don't think that there's any need to call child protective services so soon. I mean, rafe, all you're doing is looking after your ex's baby at her request.

Rafe: Right, but I'm gonna have to fill them in eventually.

Rafe: I just hate the idea of this little guy going into the system.

Rafe: I know. I hate it, too.

Lani: I mean, what if you just...

Rafe: What? What if I what?

Lani: Uh, rafe, can't you just keep him...

[Rafe scoffs] At least until jordan is better and healthy?

Rafe: Ah, I mean, I always did want kids of my own, but... oh, and I do--I love taking care of him, even when he's screaming his head off in the middle of the night, but... you know, he's not mine. It's not my place.

Lani: Why not? Hey, jordan turned to you. She asked you to protect him, and why can't you?

Rafe: Because, well, I, you know. It's not just my decision. I'm not sure it's what hope wants.

Hope: A lot of the time, I feel like... I go from one crisis to another, eli. The pressures of this job...

Eli: I get it.

Hope: Rafe wants to be everyone's rock. Just not mine. Eli... I should be at the top of his list.

Eli: So ted laurent... you're at the top of his list.

Hope: Eli...

Eli: I care about you both, but when you won't even look me in the eye when I ask you about ted--I mean, you won't even tell me what's going on. I gotta admit, I start to think that you're in love with the guy.

[Dramatic music]

[Quiet woodwind music]

Jack: You are persistent. I will give you that.

Jennifer: I've had a lot of practice fighting for you, jack, and you know, for some reason, you always try to... hide or get away from me, but I knew that what we had was so special. I love you, jack, and you feel the same way about me. I know you do. I don't even have to ask anymore. I don't even have to wonder.

[Presently] It took us almost dying on a sinking ship for you to admit that you loved me. So jack, we--we have had our share of ups and downs, but we never stopped loving each other, and I know that our love can survive this, too, because I know that all those feelings and--and all of those memories are in there somewhere.

[Hopeful music]

Will: Thank you. My, uh--my mouth is dry as dust.

[Tender music]

Did, um--rex didn't say anything about no alcohol, did he?

Sonny: No, no. Did you want a g&t?

Will: Yes. Yes, please.

I can't believe this is happening. We just got rid of leo and his mom. You know, we were... gonna be together.

Sonny: Look. I know that it's scary, okay, but we--we have to try and not assume the worst.

Will: It's ironic, isn't it, that I just... realized how much I--I love my life.

Sonny: I know.

Will: You know, I was--i already started making, like, some mental plans. I was thinking we could take arianna to london, because she loves "harry potter" so much, and we couldn't show her hogwarts, but, you know, we could show her, I don't know, windsor castle, dickens' house, and the british museum.

Sonny: We're gonna--we're gonna make all of that happen.

Will: Well, you can't say that for sure.

Sonny: Until someone tells me that you have cancer, you do not have cancer... and even if you do, there is so much research out there. There are so many treatments. Okay? You are young. You are strong, so if that's what it is, we're gonna deal with it, and you're gonna beat it. Will, look at me. We're gonna beat this together, okay? We're not gonna give up.

Will: I love you so much.

Sonny: I love you so much. You're gonna be okay. Come here.

In terms of treating sensitivity,

Hope: I understand you making assumptions, eli, and I know it'S... because I'm not emphatically denying my feelings for ted, but that is only because... I'm a very private person. I don't want to discuss my feelings with you. I won't discuss my feelings with you.

Eli: Well... at the risk of being inappropriate, again, can I just say that I know rafe loves you so much? Even if there are problems, I--a-anyone who's been around you two... it--it's obvious that you love him, too, and that's why I have faith that you two will be able to work things out.

Rafe: The thing is, hope and I--we talked about having kids before, and she was very honest, and, um... I think she's done raising kids.

Lani: Are you okay with that?

Rafe: [Laughs] Um, well, I guess I have to be. I... thing is, too, hope and I-- we're going-- we're going through a bit of a rough patch right now.

Lani: I'm really sorry to hear that.

Rafe: Me, too. Thanks. I mean, I just don't think that, uh, bringing a baby into our home, temporary as it may be, is, uh--is gonna help.

Lani: I hear you, but rafe, if--if this is what you want, don't you at least think that you should tell hope that?

Rafe: Yeah. I should.

Lani: [Whispered] Yeah.

Rafe: Would you mind watching him for just a little bit?

Lani: Absolutely.

Rafe: Really?

Lani: Yeah, of course.

Rafe: Thank you.

Lani: You're welcome.

Rafe: You...

[Baby fusses]

Eve: Damn it! What the hell?

[Desolate music]

Jack? Jack, are you in there?

Jack: This trip down memory lane has been a complete waste of time.

Jennifer: Wait, jack, I can tell you more. I haven't even told you about our weddings and the birth of our children!

Jack: It won't make any difference! You don't get what it's like to be me! You have to listen to me when i say it's not working. I--all these stories that you're coming up with--they could be lifted out of some--some romance novel. They mean nothing to me at all! This jack that you miss-- that's not who I am anymore!

Jennifer: Okay. So you want me to accept you as this conniving, ruthless, soulless politician? Is that who you are?

Jack: No, my past--my past is like--it's like a hard drive that's been accidentally wiped clean! What other choice do I have?

Jennifer: Okay, but even if you don't remember the old jack, you don't have to choose to be this version.

Jack: You're-- you don't--you don't get it. Without this version, I am nothing! I feel nothing! I am a cipher! I'm zero! I-I'm like this loser with no past and no future! I-I--my wanting to be mayor at least gave me a feeling like I got--I've got a place!

Jennifer: No, eve is selling you these lies, jack.

Jack: Before she came along, before she came along, I was zero! Zero! She gave me a direction!

Jennifer: No, she's using you! Don't you see that?

Jack: She accepts me as I am! She shows me--she reminded me that I still have a future! I'm building a new life for myself, for myself, because of her!

Jennifer: You can build a life, but you don't have to build it with her. You don't have to be married to her to be part of this dumb election, jack!

Jack: This dumb election is all that I have!

Jennifer: No, you have me! I still love you!

Jack: But I don't love you!

Lani: Sleep, beautiful boy. Your tummy's all full, and you got a dry diaper, and I'm here. I'm here. You are just the sweetest little thing, david. I could just sit here and watch you sleep forever.

[Whispering indistinctly]

[Uneasy music]

[Door opens] Both: We need to talk.

[Melancholy music]

Will: "A brain tumor is a mass of cells in your brain that are not normal. Benign tumors don't have cancer cells. They can cause problems if they press on certain areas of the brain. Life-threatening."

[Crying]

Sonny: Hey. Hey. Come here.

Sarah: I just can't stop thinking about will and sonny.

Rex: Well, how could you?

Sarah: Just, you never know what tomorrow brings, or even the next second.

Rex: That's very true.

Sarah: I... I don't want to tempt fate by putting things off any longer.

Rex: So what are you saying?

Sarah: I want to set a wedding date. I want to get married as soon as possible.

Rex: Are you serious?

[Somber music]

[Eerie music]

[Dials phone]

[Line trilling]

[Cell phone ringing]

Eve: Huh. Where the hell are you, jack?

Jennifer: You're saying you do love eve?

Jack: I don't want to hurt your feelings. You gotta give this up. Eve is gonna be my bride, my wife. Now give me the key.

Jennifer: No.

Jack: No?

Jennifer: No. I'm not giving up.

Jack: You--no, I... I'm not giving up, either!

Jennifer: Oh, don't be like that, jack!

Jack: I'm not giving up either! Let me out! Help! Damn it! I-I'm in here! I--

Jennifer: It's useless. No one is going to hear you. Jack! Jack!

Jack: Ow!

Jennifer: Jack! Jack! Jack!

[Dramatic music]
